“Signals” is still the funniest episode of She-ra.... frankly it embodies the strengths and weaknesses of the show at this stage...  

Rebellion story: Ridiculous scooby doo shenanigans. It turns out the GHOSTS were HOLOGRAMS!!!!!  Everyone realises their friendship is the thing that mattered. Bow misinterprets an incredibly plot important signal for a glitch on his tracker pad. This glitch is interpreted correctly as a signal later... entirely offscreen. 

Horde story: Threatening political intrigue as Catra claws her way to power, is at constant risk of death, and gets accidentally usurped by a sunshine gremlin with no self preservation instinct. How? She was the only one brazen and dumb enough to tell the Evil Supreme Overlord that his electronics were below the standard of a middle school student. Somehow this is an incredible plot twist with huge implications for the rest of the story and for Catra’s psyche.

Kuwana had probably come as soon as he’d heard, jumped on the first train over. All because he’d heard Yagami was hurt.

Yagami saying that there was nothing between them had been nothing but lip service for a long time now.

When Kuwana smiled and waved at him, Sugiura smiled and waved back. Relationship with Yagami aside, he was a pretty nice guy most of the time. Sugiura was just glad he didn’t have to be in the room when the two of them saw each other again.

“Sugiura-kun!” Kuwana greeted. “How are you? You’re not hurt, are you?”

Sugiura felt himself relax at his fussing. “Like I said before, I’m perfectly fine. It’s just Yagami here that had a little slip-up.”

“So it seems. Yagami’s getting a little too old to try and act like hot shit, keeping up with you.”

“Aren’t you older than he is?” Sugiura laughed.

“Yeah, but I’m not stupid enough to misjudge my limits.” Kuwana grinned.

i don't like season three when viewing it as a continuation of seasons one and two, but i do very much like season three when viewing it as the prequel to seasons four and five... hmmmmm.

#rewatching it bc i wanted to make another foreshadowing compilation post for myself regarding what will's actions will #likely be in season five re: vecna and lmao. so many things are just... it's like. it makes me laugh how In Your Face it is now #that we know all that we know. so many direct parallels both with dialogue and actions. mike/will/lucas/el foreshadowing their s4 roles. #the flaying of the holloways and the creels. the dormancy / activation shit. the building shit. the natural progression of their arcs. #the different ways that their characters approach problem solving and how we see tht reinforced by s4. it's so fascinating #genuinely i think idk it was just such a big culture shock i guess u could say from 1 and 2 that it was hard to digest on its own for me #but now that 4 is in the same vein it's like Oh. Okay. Yeah no. I get it now. That's cool. I'm forever bitter but I get it and respect it. #3 4 and 5 are a package deal considering they also said 4 was like part 1 of 5. #it also makes sense bc the point of 3 was that everyone was changing and building themselves in a new way and that #includes vecna so. just so fascinating how they link everything and how their vision is so consistent with certain plots and characters #like. the lucas max mike n will + el involvement is right there. the idea that they have to kill vecna and not just his puppets is right #there. that 2nd point starts in season two but three is where it really turns into an ''the end justifies the means'' situation #(especially for will which i think is something a lot of people overlook but—) #s3 is painful when considering their personal character arcs but fucking delicious when considering the overarching supernatural vecna plot #bc thts also when he starts his ''there is no stopping this'' shtick and actually enters the story #and he's fucking slimy lol. which i Love #anyway. omg first i defended mike in the rain fight and now i'm saying i kind of like season three who the FUCK am i!!!!! #crazy what feeling the need to defend a white boy's honor will do to you 😳

just watched the fnaf movie and omg ?? i actually really liked it ?? i had no expectations for it, as in, i didn't expect it to be good or bad, but i am still incredibly surprised by it ! i am pretty glad they decided to not follow all the lore entirely and kind of gave it their own twist because if they attempted to make it 100% cannon it would have all been an absolute mess . . really enjoyed the movie, really happy i went out to see it, and as far as i could tell by the reactions of the people around me, everyone seemed to like it too hehe. sort of a spoiler ahead ig so be warned, but my fav character was 100% balloon boy because why was he there ? what was he up to ? did i miss something ? i'm assuming maybe it was supposed to be a little easter egg, but i absolutely loved it either way — in fact, i loved all the little more direct references to the games that i caught ! like the scene where they all ganged up on afton ?? hello ?? absolutely fantastic. also adored the music they played when the movie ended there possibly couldn't have been a better choice for the soundtrack ! the most op character was 100% the cupcake tho also loved that little guy ngl

i feel like the fact that barely anyone who watches the show thinks of will as the main character might be indicative of the fact that he isn't

(everything except the Horse and His Boy, which a) even as a tiny kid made me uncomfortable with how fucking racist it is (literally there is ONE. ONE. character of colour who isn't evil, selfish, greedy and violent. even when you're 5 and white and don't really understand racism it's like. sorry there are just no nice people in this whole country? and every Narnian is lovely?) and b) is just fucking DULL partly bc of the 2 dimensional racist caricatures populating the world)

but I can't pretend for a second that it isn't specifically built around a Christian theology that's explicitly racist, hierarchical, supremacist, colonialist and The Bits I Like Least Of Anglicanism

and my FAVOURITE books in the series (except the Silver Chair which tbh is WAY less theological and way more mythology-nerd) are the first and last, which are by far the most explicitly Christian. even more so than TLTWATW.

and I can just about stand by the Magician's Nephew bc it's mostly just a mix of Christian creation myth and CS Lewis's sci fi interests in the esoteric and multiverses and it honestly feels fine. but my all time favourite most iconic Narnia book is The Last Battle and I just. cannot. justify it for a second from a political or philosophical standpoint.

it's got it all bc it's the book where Lewis is like ok hold up let me lay out explicitly what my theology is. and what he thinks it's important to say is:

Almost all Muslims are bad and evil

They worship Satan by doing Bad Evil Deeds to please him

There are a couple of Good Muslims who do good deeds. they need to be brought to the light, understand that the voice calling them to do good deeds is the Christian god, and they too can achieve the kingdom of heaven

Some people will use Christianity as a mask for exploitation and mistreatment. They are bad and their faith is false (ok fine)

...and they're doing that because they're CONSPIRING WITH THE EVIL MUSLIMS TO OPPRESS GOOD CHRISTIANS

...and THAT'S THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD TELL YOU THAT GOD AND ALLAH ARE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR THE SAME GOD. because they're either conning you or because they've been misled and can't really think for themselves.

DID I MENTION. THAT MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND TRYING TO BRING DOWN CHRISTIANS.

and other than the GOD AREN'T MUSLIMS JUST THE WORST of it all, he also goes back over to more fully explain several points he's made throughout the series, such as:

white Christian public school kids are the god ordained leaders of the world and attempts to think otherwise are heretical

god places people where they need to be to serve his purpose

free will is largely an illusion - your only choice is faith or chaos, and as a godly person your actions are preordained

the problem is though. he's kind of a really good character writer? and in The Last Battle he pulls out most of his best classics (hi Reepicheep! hi Frank! hi Jill!) and gives us a whole wealth of really fun new characters (Tirian and Jewel, Emeth, Puzzle, Shift, Griffle and Ginger are all just SO FUN) and it's such a solid adventure. for me it's hands down the most FUN Narnia to read and an effective and affecting end to the series.

but like. god its unjustifiably fucked philosophy is baked into every single character and event. it's so hard to ignore. it's my favourite book in the series. it's the book that makes me angriest. it's everything right with Narnia and everything wrong with Narnia. I like it cause it asks me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy and I hate it cause it requires me to engage critically with Lewis' philosophy.

in conclusion, Narnia is a land of contrasts. also occasionally brownface.

I'm so fond of them. #and part of that is inextricable from the Christianity of them. i think there's something really fun and interesting in the fusion of #christian myth and celtic paganism and classical myth and arthuriana and new age mysticism and sci fi multiverse stuff #like it's not. new to blend those things. but lewis is such a nerd about all of them and he blends them up in a really flavourful way #and also i think like as a kid. the utter claroty with which These Are Metaphors About Theology And Philosophy #really worked for me even though I disagreed with most of it. because it kind of wants to engage with you directly as a child #it is. to me. pretty honest about its intentions. and it digs into some moderately complex ideas for a young audience. #like they're parables not morality plays. the Goddier ones are inviting you to think and engage in a conversation about the ideas #which tbh. not a lot of kid's books did at the time and age i was reading them? #they wanted me to be thinking about the whys and hows of morality. like obviously Lewis SUPER has an opinion on the Right Answers #(i would usually. say we're diametrically opposed on most conclusions but then i was rooting for Jadis' army in LWW) #but idk Lewis's theology is interesting. he's very much pro faith and determinism but he ALSO thinks you should question stuff i think #like. it's often kind of self-contradictory but the books are pretty pro asking questions pushing back straying from the path #as long as you come back #and the last battle particularly is really clear that you're not doing a good job of engaging with faith if you don't think about it #like other than MUSLIMS ARE EVIL AND BAD the main message of the last battle is. #if you don't think critically about faith then someone else will think for you and fuck you over #tirian is our hero bc he has a personal and often uncertain relationship with faith that means he refuses to get swept up in the crowd #puzzle is painted as someone who is too scared of conflict to voice his concerns #he's prepared to believe he's too stupid to have his own questions or relationship with faith and so he becomes a tool of the powerful #because he is told to trust the teachings of the church not his own heart #now. do i think this is philosophically good? generally yes but it also props up the I'M A BOLD TRUTHTELLER AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT #reactionary tendency. and it's written by a guy whose Unpopular Truthtelling is partly 'Allah is Satan' so. grains of salt. #buuuuut. it's probably why it resonates a lot with people like me or my mum who as kids often felt constrained or patronised #by the way adults approach obedience and blind faith #like. Lewis is advocating for FAITH. he DOESN'T think that faith should be uncritical or without discomfort

Some Damian’s fans are sad that Robin (2021) is canceled, but honestly I will gladly take Damian making multiple cameos in other characters’ books under the writing of multiple writers where we don’t know what we’re getting than one solo written by one writer that I know for a fact I wouldn’t enjoy what they’re doing with him.

#I'm curious what they will do with Damian after BvR tho #I highly doubt they will bring his Robin solo after a 4 months break #especially since they talked about it as if it was canceled not on a hiatus #and since that ugly Peter Pan is busy being Robin in that period #my theory is that we will get another event that will act as part 3 of World Finest and BVR #but I don't think Damian will be the main character in it #unless Nezha escapes at the end of BVR and the next event will be about Damian hunting him down as revenge for possessing him #but I doubt it since everything has to be about Batman and they will not let Damian take his shine #at best he will just be making cameos for a while #Damian Wayne

One of the first in the long list of Cacciatore-Zeppeli descendants, Barbara is a Hamon-Stand User born and raised in New York City. Due to growing up on the streets of New York, she has a sharp wit and is able to think and act on the fly. Barbara also often speaks bluntly, stating the obvious and using logic to get things to go her way. She takes pride in her independence to the point where she has initial difficultly realizing and coming to terms that she can't fight every battle on her own. Towards her allies, she is kind, loyal and protective -- even if she does possess a streak of teasing them. Towards enemies, Barbara is harsh and ruthless, not hesitating to act for a moment when in battle against them the way she sees fit. This can manifest in different ways -- whether it be striking a supposed civilian or unleashing hell on a perverted Stand User.

Barbara is also noted to take pride in the bonds that she has with those that she calls family to the point where she is visibly upset upon reuniting with childhood friend Jotaro, who acts like they’re strangers. To those who disrespect that bond, she will act coldly and harshly towards. It is her love and pride in her family that drives her to join the Crusaders on their trip to Egypt. Along with her grandfather - Caesar Zeppeli - Barbara seeks to not only save the life of the only mother figure she has remaining, but to avenge the death of her mother at the hands of Dio's agents and solve her father's disappearance. To her, all life is sacred and she will do what she must to protect it. Even if it means putting herself in harm's way on the trip.

Barbara is the User of the Stand, "Pentacle Queen". Her Stand manifests her inate desire to protect people by allowing her to sense the different life energy within living beings. Each "signature", as she calls it, varies from person to person. Only Stands and their Users can have an identical one. Pentacle Queen is noted for its lack of physical strength and exceptional range of 250 feet/75 meters. Barbara is only one of three members of her family to possess a Stand since birth -- the other two being her father and cousin, Chihiro.

Where Pentacle Queen lacks physical strength, Barbara does her best to make up for with her developing Hamon abilities. Throughout the fifty day Crusade, Barbara undergoes training at Caesar's hand to prepare for the battle against Dio and to defend herself if need be. It should be worth noting that Barbara eventually learns how to use her Hamon to heal others' wounds -- the only one of Caesar's and Eleonora's grandchildren who is able to do so.
