ooo btvs for the show ask! or ats if you got that one already :)
Thanks for sending this :)
my favorite female character: Faith and Anya. I love flawed and awkward women working to overcome their dark pasts while also dealing with the fact that the “dark side” is the only place they’ve ever truly been accepted and given a home… also they’re both hot which is cool too
my favorite male character: Oz you will always be famous
my favorite book/season/etc: Season three (because FAITH and also iconic eps like Band Candy and Lovers’ Walk) and then season six (I know a lot of people don’t like the later seasons but I’ve personally always enjoyed the way they tackle Buffy’s depression and making the adult life into the monster and I enjoy watching the toxic train wreck that is season six Spuffy)
my favorite episode (if its a tv show): This is super difficult uhhh The Body and Hush are objectively the best ones but Triangle, Tabula Rasa, and the season three eps mentioned above are also personal favourites… I’m a big fan of concept eps especially when they’re comedic
my favorite cast member: idk so I’ll just say SMG, she did some incredible work
my favorite ship: fuffy is THE rivals to “gal pals” to enemies (but the love persists) to apart-but-slowly-growing-to-understand-each-other to divorced coworkers of all time. The date-but-not-a-date? The hand holding? The forehead kisses? The innuendo? The shared dream sequences? The body swap? The narrative foils for each other? Please I love them so much.
a character I’d die defending: Dawn Summers has never done anything wrong may have made some bad decisions but she is The little sibling of all time and I understand her perfectly. I was the same way at fourteen and that fourteen year old still lives in my brain now. I only wish I had a cool vampire bestie to hang out with when I got frustrated with not being treated like an adult.
a character I just can’t sympathize with: Giles in the later seasons… bro please get over yourself and act like an adult, do NOT leave a twenty year old and a fourteen year old to survive on their own because you’re hurt that they “don’t need you anymore” (they DO! clearly!) similarly both Giles and Joyce should have done more to support Faith in season three and in retrospect we should have seen it coming that Giles would be like “yeah it’s fine to leave this barely-an-adult-woman with no support system on her own”
a character I grew to love: to some extent Wesley after watching ats… he’s still a cunt been on Buffy though
my anti otp: for canon pairings Wesley/Cordy and (in the comics) Xander/Dawn

Ugh I just had a alternative thought- to the Joyce's car exploding theory (read here).
Maybe brenner does it as a way to get rid of Joyce and capture Will and fake Will's death (cause again he'd survive given his fire powers)? He already faked el's death (m*scarriage) and essentially got rid of Terry after she tried to get el back. Brenner may trying something more drastic -cause he knows Joyce would do anything to get her son back (especially cause unlike terry she initially succeeded.) And it's not the first time he faked Will's death.Brenner even means ‘to burn’!
Some of the s4 movies could be possibly hinting at it. Assasains creed -the evil psychiatrists fakes an artist's death to get him into their facility. In the society - a group of powerful elites injects a boy named Billy ( william) in the arm with a needle saying he's crazy and needs help. And the nurse in on it lies to his best friend saying he's dead. Also easter is resurrection day and is around Will's b day- and could be a hint at that whole resurrection thing.in 1 film a main character is supposed to die but resurrects 3 days later. Will in s1 even died on good Friday (day Jesus died). And in one s4 film stoker- their parent dies on their b day in car accident . In gilbert grape- after his b day his mom also died and a fire was stagged to cover it up. And in the descent-right around a character’s b day her fam dies in car crash. 4 movies even have phoenix symbolism- bird who resurrects from the ashes of fire . Besides all the other movies with all the exploding cars/families dying in car crashes, and s3 foreshadowing. Joyce’s car model was prone to exploding and was even recalled because of it. There was even a lawsuit over it in Indianna in 1980! It would be a perfect way for Brenner not to garner suspicion- and have it just look like a freak accident.
It would also explain why s4 teaser had that opera segment.Quand le bien-aimé reviendra from the story  ou La folle par amour (The Woman Crazed with Love). cough “crazy together/”only love makes you that crazy”.  which is about a woman losing it after she assumes her lover died when he didn't (mike).
And oh my God jonathan would lose his mind if he thought he lost both of them- may explain all the movies implying him acting self destructively /depressed etc maybe even stuck with lonnie (maybe shown more in s5 rather than 4?)
I think el would be captured separately though -while teaming up with kali again and trying to look for papa like kali asked her to do in s2. She may or may not know Will is there and try helping him . In peanut butter solution a guy named senior k*dnapped kids for their powers- and one kid character sneaks in to find sibling. And calls the k*dapper "dad" to gain his trust .
I could see the end of s4 having both be in brenner's clutches .Not to mention how in s1/2 the lab was watching El/Will in the same way -and it was hinted Brenner suspected Will had powers. The Will ST comic- referenced ‘house of stairs’ (Will throws that book at the demogorgan) .It involved a gay male teen (in love with his childhood bff who would have dissociative episodes) and a gal with buzzcut -being kidnapped and thrown in the facility by an evil psychiatrist who is trying to make the teens into weapons for the government. And the “into the fire” st comic had a fire wielding character , who imagined herself in a cold sunless DreamWorld cause of mental health issues (cough Will the wise- having fire powers, seeing the upsidedown ,penthurst being a psych facility etc) . She was stuck in Brenner’s facility- and escapes using her fire powers and uses them when she has a mental breakdown and dissociates. And then goes on the run with some people she knew in the past (alot of movies have that plot point so maybe a s5 thing with Will and mike?)Also in the comic everyone she knew thought she was dead before she escaped.
Just a hunch...

I know what you did last Halloween...
Part Two // Part Three // Part Four
Pairing: Scooby gang x reader (platonic)
This is a platonic story with the reader as part of the Scooby gang. Set season 3. It’s going to be a small multi-parted serial killer/slasher fic for Halloween. Reader lives with Giles, but is not related. The deaths in this part are not described in much detail.
Not sure how popular it’ll be with you guys, but I’ve enjoyed writing it so far !! 🖤🦇
Warning: It is a serial killer fic, main characters are going to die (I’m sorry, it’s Halloween). Violence. Blood mention. Threat.

Sunnydale Scare? Scythe-wielding killer strikes again
Sunnydale Express, October 1999.
Sunnydale High school, not used to such horror inflicted on their student body since Principal Flutie’s unfortunate death in office [His memorial will be on the 31st as his family reveal it was his favorite time of year].
The scythe-wielding killer, who was seen wearing all-black with a festive mask, has claimed his most recent victims. Two members of the swim team found themselves in hot water after they were found with brutal and fatal injuries. The wounds matched the scythe that is commonly associated with the widely termed ‘Sunnydale slasher’.
It makes us wonder at the Sunnydale Express, why and how this idyllic town has managed to create such a monster?
You and the Scoobies were good friends. You helped save the world more than once whilst fighting algebra homework and Principal Snyder. You had moved from your hometown to Sunnydale at the same time as Buffy, meeting her on your first day and becoming best friends since that day. You had moved into Giles’ spare room after your parents had wanted to move on again. You had been sucked into the slaying and you couldn’t leave the others. Giles had been very accommodating and very much like a parental figure. Things had been going well, you were close to graduating and finally getting the hell out of there until one life-changing event that would forever be ingrained in your minds.
You and your friends were sat around the school canteen. The mood was pretty low and you were collectively checking over your shoulders every so often. You had been discussing the latest spate of murders. Surprisingly, it was widely covered by various news outlets and hadn’t been brushed under the rug as the usual demon relating killings were.
Buffy and Faith had been doing double patrolling, making sure there was always someone out after dark. Giles had been pleased but he wasn’t aware of the real reason. Although he had noted a difference in your mood in the past year. Despite the extra patrolling, no matter how many demon-snitches they beat up and threatened, there was no changing the answer they didn’t want to hear.
“So this… slasher? He’s-it’s-she’s-?” Xander spluttered through the pronouns in his disbelief.
“Yep. Human” Buffy shrugged, sighing and staring down at her food. Nobody had eaten anything. The lunch you all had set out in front of you was just for show. None of you could stomach much at the moment.
“Shouldn’t we have found them by now?” Willow wondered, her brow furrowing in frustration.
“It could be anyone. And I’m guessing they’re not exactly wearing their ‘I’m a killer come catch me’ sweater”
“Yeah, Giles says he’s gonna look into it, but unless it says ‘Scythe killer was here’ in one of those big old books…” You tail off as Buffy picks up your sentence.
“We’ve got zip. Nothing” Buffy nodded again. Conversation then turned. You had been in a deep discussion of something in low murmurs, that was until your best friends boyfriend walked in. A dead silence blanketed your table.
“The blank stares and silence make me feel at home” oz deadpanned and you all laughed slightly too loud at this. He squinted around the room, shrugged and then kissed Willow’s forehead before staring around at the odd vibe. He had noticed that none of you had been the same for at least a year, but anytime he tried to talk to Willow about it she just shook her head vigorously and locked herself in a different room until he dropped it.
“Well, I have some place to be that’s else. Or about three tables that way” He gestured with his head to where one of his bandmates were sat. Willow assured him she would come over and sit with them in a minute. After you finished a very important conversation.
“I can’t do this anymore, lying to him hurts my heart” Willow said sadly, shifting uncomfortably as if her heart was physically aching her, “I have to tell him”
“And how’re you gonna do that exactly, Will? Oh, hey there Oz remember last Halloween, well we-” Xander cut in harshly, trying to make Will be realistic.
“Stop it! We can’t talk about this here. Anyone could overhear, they already suspect I’m a slayer” Buffy said firmly.
“We have big mouths, sorry” You shrug, smiling tightly.
“This isn’t funny!” She snapped, the events of last year had her wound even more tightly than usual. She had more responsibility than she could handle on her shoulders as it was, let alone this secret weighing down on her like a
“I’m not laughing, Buff… I’m sorry” You whisper. You did feel guilty. You felt horrible. Some nights you barely slept, and when you did you had these horrible nightmares.
Oh, right. That guy that you killed. Well, it was a total accident and you were all very sorry at the time. I mean, you still are. But, thing is, you just didn’t happen to tell anyone or alert the correct authorities. Must have slipped your mind.
Let me paint the picture in case you managed to forget…
Last Halloween, you and your friends had been attending a Halloween party. Your collective night off from saving the world. Oz, who didn’t appear to be wearing a costume, had explained it was a shindig and you had all enjoyed the live music and spooky theme. Even Buffy had managed to relax.
Buffy had chosen little red riding hood and Willow was dressed as a knight in historically accurate chainmail. Cordelia was a cat, it was the back-up she always had in case her first choice fell through. She had shrugged, at least she looked good in it. You had decided on a werewolf, after apologising profusely to Oz who didn’t appear phased.
Xander was walking around in a karate outfit, something about being inspired by the copious violence he enjoyed on screen. Every so often he did a karate chop in mid-air and you and your friends would share a collective eye roll. Especially when he chopped some jock guy that he spent the rest of the evening hiding from. Whereas Faith was wearing as little as possible and appeared to be dressed as herself.
The band was playing decent music and the atmosphere was electric. You and Buffy had danced together while Willow and Xander laughed by the punch bowl. Out of nowhere, Faith joined the both of you and muscled you out of the way to dance with Buffy. You rolled your eyes, but knew better than to make a fuss so you went back to your other friends and joined them in conversation.
Buffy had borrowed her Mom’s car and had sneaked out while Joyce was sleeping. Joyce had been feeling a little under the weather and hadn’t noticed. When it was time to leave, she drove (badly) through the streets to drop everyone home. Oz was doing another set and would get a ride with the rest of his band.
You were squished in the back with Cordy, Xander and Willow. Faith had called shotgun. There were more people than there should be, with Cordy sitting precariously on Xander’s lap. It meant you and Willow were crushed together sharing an annoyed look as the pair continued to kiss.
Buffy looked out of the side window for a nicer view and managed to hit something in the road. You all screamed as she broke suddenly. You had hit something. Something big. You all got out to investigate and saw that it was a man. You went and shook his shoulder and he immediately sat up and grabbed at you. His grip tight and strong. You screamed as you looked at his face, there were fangs and his face looked bumpy. The others saw it too and Buffy pulled you away as Faith moved in and staked him.
The man struggled for a moment before going still. Blood had started to run from his heart and the stake that had been stabbed through it. You all just stared.
“W-why isn’t he going poof?” Willow whispered as you all just stared in horror. He had been human after all.
“It was a costume!” You shrieked in horror. Everyone’s blood turned cold.
“We’ll have to bury him” Faith said quickly. Xander stayed silent, his eyes glazed in fear.
“We can’t!” Buffy said firmly.
“Look, it’s that or another stint in juvey and I’m not goin’ back there” Faith muttered and you all frowned, having not realised she had ever been.
“I think we should see if he has any ID, maybe we could-” You started, Willow nodding along.
“No, Faith’s right. We bury him” Xander said suddenly.
“Who made you decision-gal?” Buffy said, her usual fun language lost on the moment as she stared through Faith.
“I’m a slayer too, B. You’re not the boss” Faith tilted her head to the side and shrugged. You paused, thinking it over for a while.
“Buff, we can’t risk it. You and Faith are needed here – we can’t go to prison” You sigh, not sure if you fully believed what you were saying.
“Th-that’s actually true…” Willow said eventually, not looking anyone in the eye. It was hurting her conscience.
But that’s what you decided. For better or worse. You were all complicit now as you put him in the trunk and buried him in the graveyard in the early hours of the morning.
Nobody spoke as the sun started to rise and the plot you had chosen was no longer vacant. It had been hard to come to terms with ever since.
Missing – have you seen this man?
Sunnydale Express, 1998. November 2nd.
Mr Bates of Sunnydale California has been missing since Halloween night. Last seen leaving a party in the early hours. His wife and children are anticipating his return, although with the current rate of people vanishing often with no trace the Express, with their condolences, fears that Mr Bates may be one of a hundred Sunnydale citizens on Halloween night that will never return to their families.
This begs the question, where are all the missing going? Sunnydale has one of the largest cases of missing persons never being found in the state of California and statistics suggest it has the highest number compared to towns in neighboring states.
It had been a few days and something had shifted. Your friend’s mood was lower than ever and you were really worried about her. The guilt was eating away at her. It was so bad she finally had to talk to someone about it. Buffy was the most outwardly guilty one of you all. Covering for this went against everything she believed in. Fought for. Which is why she was probably being targeted the most.
You closed your locker and jumped, she had been standing behind it, waiting for you to notice her. She gave you an apologetic glance but still asked, “Hey, y/n, can we talk?”
“Sure, I didn’t wanna go to English anyway” You smile at her as you walk to the usual place under the stairwell you would hide when you needed to talk. She pressed a note into your hand which you unfolded and read:
‘I know what you did last Halloween…’
You gasped, looking around before looking back at her for some kind of explanation, “It was in my history textbook, so, it might have been there for at least a month” Buffy said “Did you get one?” she whispered. You shook your head, nobody had left anything for you. You would remember. Buffy’s note struck a sense of fear you hadn’t felt since that night. A bubbling guilt that was squeezing your insides and threatening to spill them out. You had felt numb since then, unable to cry or even think about the events.
“We need to tell someone. Maybe Giles? I can see how much this is killing you, Buff…”  You say, trying to comfort your friend the best way you knew how.
“I know, I try and I try but I can’t tell him. He’ll get all moral and Giles-y”
“Maybe we need that. What we did was stupid, but still an accident. I wish I had never agreed with Faith” You muttered as Buffy nodded along silently. She wished you hadn’t agreed with Faith too, you had been the type people came with for answers. Advice. So you agreeing with Faith was probably the deciding vote. She told you she would meet you later and appeared to be in deep thought as she walked away.
Willow and Cordy looked spooked, sitting down silently during the break between classes. Their notes had fallen out of their lockers and they were afraid they had been seen picking them up. Buffy revealed to the others hers had said the same thing just as Xander ran in, very visibly panicking and checking behind him with every step he took.
He just slammed the note in the middle of the table without comment. He had nothing he could say. No jokes could mask the horror that came with
“That settles it. We go to Giles” Buffy said firmly.
“No-” Xander tried to assert, but he was outvoted this time.
“We have to. He’ll help us, I know he will” You confirmed, “Walk home with me tonight, we’ll tell him then” This was to give you some time. None of you could face going to the library for the rest of the day.
The bell rang and it felt as if it were tolling for a funeral march. The walk to Giles’ house was slow. You had swung by Faith’s motel on your way, taking a detour as you explained you would have to tell him. She surprisingly didn’t put much of an argument against.
The door creaked open and you shouted to announce your presence. But when you get there, you felt it instantly. You dropped your bags and walked into the living room. Every step felt heavy and echoed around the room.
There he was. On the floor. Surrounded in his own blood.
Your knees buckled and you had to steady yourself against the sofa. The blood-stained sofa. Someone’s arms held you up. There were gasps and mutters but your ears were ringing, you felt very far away. He was cold, his body mutilated.
It took you longer than the others to see the new centrepiece of the room.
‘I know what you did last Halloween’ was written in what could only have been Giles’ blood smeared across the wall of his living room. It was your warning. Your note.
A warning that turned your stomach. Knocked you all sick. He was one of you and he was gone. You tuned back into the conversation around you after having stared at the words. The words meant for you. Every time you blinked, those words were now stamped into your vision.
“It’s the same thing that was written on the notes”
“Oh, I got one of those but I threw it in the trash” Faith shrugged, but she wavered. This was hard to look at.
“We’ll have to clean it up” Xander said flatly. Gesturing at the writing.
“What?! We can’t-”
“Xander Harris, your brain is barely functional anyway - but this is totally the worst thing that’s come out of your mouth!” She shouted, her voice getting higher as she continued, “I am not cleaning the bloody writing off our dead librarians wall!” She warned. They had broken up since everything had happened. Everyone collectively winced as she said Giles was dead. It hurt. It sliced too close to the bone. At least when it had been a stranger, there was some degree of separation. But now it was even worse.
“They’ll know or start to look into it - we gotta do it”
You stayed silent this time, every time someone’s eyes looked at you you kept your expression blank. Until you were handed a cloth and some bleach and you grimaced but followed the others. Cordy joined you, nodding her understanding at your blank look. She took the cloth and the liquid from your shaking hands and started to help with the clean up.
Teen scream
Sunnydale Express, October 1999.
Reports of a large number of young people are now rejecting the upcoming holiday in an attempt to preserve their lives. Many say that this is a kneejerk reaction and that many will lose out of the best years of their lives to fear – which is what the killer will want.
Despite this, there has been a curfew agreed amongst the young people of the town and the Mayor’s office, reports suggest. Time will tell if this will be kept or if it another attempt by those cautious to get a re-election rather than improving the spate of missing persons that has only doubled since the year previous.
You were all waking in a group. You couldn’t face staying at Giles’ place so you were going to stay over at Buffy’s for the night. There was still an argument going on around you that you weren’t listening to. Faith had lit up a cigarette and kept telling everyone to calm down. That nobody could know or people would be hauling you all off to jail. That you had chosen the right thing.
“I’m sick of you all, I’m going out. There’s a party down the block. Anyone coming?” She looks around. This, you had heard. You shrug, resigning yourself to it. You made plans based on alibis now. With this cynical thought, you manage to convince everyone else to come too. You never know, it might relax them.
...Or not.
You and the others all sat around in silence as the bass, and Faith, jumped around you. You barely spoke, you just stared into your cups. There had been some hugging when you first left the house but since then you all felt so alone. So disconnected despite being in this together. What you had chosen to do didn’t feel right and without your constant, your compass that had been Giles you didn’t know what to do.
“Hey, man, it’s not Halloween yet!” Someone shouted. It caught all of your attention. A collective feeling of dread. That had been before all of the screaming had started.
The figure loomed over you. Everything about him screamed menacing. He frightened you more than any demon. He was stood in a Grim reaper costume, complete with blood stained scythe. He turned, spotting you finally. He had been slicing kids down as he walked. He wasn’t aiming, just wildly enjoying the chaos he caused.
He stopped in the centre of the room, facing the group of you that had just risen to your feet. He pointed. He stood still and pointed at you all. The Scooby gang.
In that moment, you knew. You knew he was the one that was taunting you. And so did every one else.
“Well, one of us has a brief scythe of life” Buffy stated, “…and it isn’t me” She ran at him, her fists raised as Faith came up behind her. In the chaos it was hard to see what was happening, all you could feel was this descending feeling of foreboding. You knew it had happened before you saw it.
To be continued…

You gave yourself three more days to accommodate to the new situation. It could be just the post-ceremony stress you were experiencing, right? Jim, as the good soul he was in his core, prepared you some breakfast the following morning, bringing it to your bed. It was obvious what you'll be doing that day since he took a day off and Eleven was staying at your mom's. James jokingly said that no-one will see you for the week following the wedding and look at that, he wasn't wrong.
As time went on, it was more and more obvious that something isn't completely in check with you. Whether it was the fact that almost every morning, you spent at least ten minutes with the feeling of being sick or the fact that you were capable of giving Jim a long lecture just because he didn't take off his shoes as soon as he got in. He was jokingly saying that you put your wife mode pretty early and you, as well, chuckled at that. Not knowing what to think about all of that.
The holiday in Maine suddenly wasn't such a good idea as you thought it would be. It was supposed to be your honeymoon and a family holiday at once since your budget wasn't exactly the highest. You were supposed to visit some ultra-romantic location for three days with Jim and spend a week at Joyce's.
Yet a week before the trip itself, you decided that you want to keep the voucher from Joyce for later, sticking to the kids and Joyce for the whole ten days. Hopper sure was caught off guard with that since you were all over the place for the romantic weekend when Joyce gave you the voucher as a wedding gift, yet he didn't protest at all.
You chose Steve as your co-driver to take a short break from being with Hopper all the damn time and to savor those sweet moments on the gas station. A few years, the kids would be disgusted to see you being touchy-feely with each other. You remembered them grinning every time they were visiting your pace and Jim came home, automatically receiving a smooch and a hug for you. Now, they just turned away and talked about stuff. And also, you didn't want him to see you hyperventilating into a paper bag once vomit comes to your throat again.
Steve, on the other hand, kept you busy while he was driving or even if you were sitting behind the steering wheel. He was choosing some nice jams to sing along with kids, or you played some games like word soccer to keep you, Lucas, Dustin, and Nancy busy. Or, when the car was quiet for too long, Nancy would think of a word, letting you guess what she's thinking about. You chose a good bunch for the car ride. Robin, since she couldn't sit on any of the backseats, was mostly hiding in the trunk of Steve’s car and occasionally, she changed with one of the children.
When you were in the middle, changing with Steve, Hopper asked Nancy if she would drive at least for an hour or so because he needed some rest. She nodded, which meant that you got Mike into your car instead of Nancy - Wheeler for a Wheeler, as Dustin had said. Of course that Jim also couldn't see these two snuggling constantly, that was why he asked you to take Mike to your car.
Even if you were locked up with all of these psychos for a good portion of ten days, the vacation couldn't be better. You visited many places, went to a beach to swim and watched movies in the evenings.
"You don't look healthy. Is everything okay back there?" - Joyce asked worriedly when you, her, and Nancy were preparing some peanut butter sandwiches. You shot your gaze at Nancy, but... Who on earth would this girl tell about your sickness?
"That sounds like you're worried if my grumpy old husband..." - You told her loud enough to hear Hopper chuckle from watching the movie. - "It just came across that you think he's beating me. That's not the case, don't worry."
"Hopper beating you?" - Joyce burst out with laughter, looking at Nance who was also grinning. - "You'd sooner kicked his bottom than him even getting to beat you. No, I mean, are you okay? Since the wedding, you had lost a lot of weight and your hair also looks different. And you seem to be tired all the time since you arrived."
"And let's not forget about your morning trips to the bathroom. It's a miracle that El or Hopper didn't notice yet since you're not exactly discreet about it." - Nancy added from cutting the edges. It maybe came off as a rude comment, but it wasnt meant as one. Both of the women were just worried.
"Maybe it's just the nerves, as Robin said." - You tried to shake it off with a nervous smile and you mixed Dustin and Will’s hot cocoa they ordered. At that, both of the ladies looked at you with a face knowing something you didn't.
"What would Hopper say about another child? Have you talked about that?" - Joyce asked pretty blatantly, looking at the peanut butter jar innocently. You weren't exactly surprised that this was their main concern. It crossed your mind too. What if you were pregnant? Just theoretically? There were a few occasions where you nor James were exactly careful with what you were doing in the bed, especially when he came back from the dead.
A long exhale of yours was more than a thousand words. But when you saw Joyce's shocked face, you shook your head immediately. - "I mean, yeah, I theoretically asked him once or twice if having children is something he would still be up to, but his answer... I don't know, gals, it was... He didn't exactly say no, but he wasn’t jumping around with excitement either."
"See?" - Joyce asked fenced with the butter knife in her hand, having her duh face on. - "He's opened to it, and that is the best you'll get out of Hopper. He wasnt too excited about seeing you at the begging either, don't you think?" - She poked fun of you a bit, having Nancy smile as well. - "And now he proclaims it the best idea he ever had." - She walked up to you, hugging one of your sides, Nancy joining on the other side.
"We’ll be here if you'd need some help, okay?" - Nancy whispered. No matter what, the idea of being an auntie made both the ladies smile. And you as a mom? You hadn't a problem with getting Eleven and the children gange under your thumb, what would the difference with your baby be?
Yet you felt kinda nervous when you gave all of the food and drinks to the kids, sitting beside Hopper. Someone started the movie, but the man couldn't look away from you. - "Why are you staring at me? I thought that this phase is way beyond us." - You accused him jokingly, laying down on the couch to watch The Breakfast Club, which was chosen by the girls for the night. Other nights, you watched movies like The Planet of Apes or Star Trek, so it was a fine compromise. Or ’halfway happy’ as Jim and Eleven called it.
"You're not lookin’ good is what I wanted to say." - Hopper chuckled, watching your mouth open wide. - "I mean, you don't usually look this ugly, so I'm just worried." - Jim finished, teasing the living hell out of you. With a smile, you kissed him, feeling the familiar scratch of a beard on your face. - "Shut up and watch the damn movie, James." - You chuckled, getting into a good position.
You fell asleep on the couch in the middle of the movie, both of you. So even if it was Dustin and Mike’s sleeping place, they decided to sleep in the garden in a tent with Steve and Robin, who were telling them scary stories the whole night. You knew that because around three a.m., back pain waked you up and as soon as you got up, Hopper had conquered the whole couch by himself.
When you went to sit on the terrace with a cup of cocoa too, Steve was still sitting there by a fireplace, looking into it while the rest was dead asleep at that time. These lumberjack slumbers had to be heard miles away. The summer air was colder in the area since you were pretty close to the sea, which was nice.
"Some ghosts on your mind, huh?" - You whispered into Steve's ear after sneaking up on him, freaking him the hell out. With a chuckle, you sat down next to him, pulling your sweatshirt closer. Steve took a sip out of your mug without asking and you let him, watching the flames too.
"Can't fall asleep for a reason. You?" - Steve answered the question, looking at the profile of your face. - "Back pain and Hopper being spread all over the couch. Since I got married, I feel like an old lady with all these back pains and late-night waking up." - You chuckled back at the comment about you feeling old.
Yeah. Steve was just three or so years younger, yet the differences between you and him were undeniable. You were married, possibly pregnant, a mother, almost a college graduate with a psychology diploma, and an adult responsible for a man like James Hopper while Steve was just trying to figure out who he even was. He was single, he was still living with his parents and had a job at a video rental. You both were adults now but in different ways.
"It weirdly suits both of you. I am like... No expert, but you feel right together. Jesus, do you remember when I kissed you when we were playing that hide in seek?" - Steve asked embarrassed, looking at you. At that memory, you started to laugh with him, nodding. - "And I how I have shot the basketball ball into your forehead? You had a concussion or something." - You told him back, having him laughing as well.
"Mom was not letting me see the two of you for the next two weeks. She said that you're too dangerous to be friends with." - Steve smiled and then, suddenly you both slipped into your childhood memories once more. He was making you laugh the whole night. You got back to the couch by six in the morning. - "Where were you?" - Jim asked sleepily once you shoved him off your half of the couch. You didn’t answer him, you simply kissed him without saying a word. Oh, what fun making Jim quiet that night it was.
The other day, Robin, Jonathan, Steve, and Hopper planned some kind of a quest for the kids and no matter how adult they were trying to be, they were happy when the four adults told them. And what a better day to spend with your ladies than peeing on sticks, am I right?
"So, does it like have two strips or one strip?" - Joyce asked through the door, looking at the instructions she got at the pharmacy. She was confused as hell, but she wasnt willing to say it out loud. At that moment, you opened up the door, walking out, having three different pee sticks in your hand. - "Do I look like a gynecologist to you, Joyce?" - You asked ironically, putting them on a paper towel so you could all have a good look at what was in front of you.
The only thing Nancy did was that she opened up her mouth unbelievably, Joyce copying her actions within a second. Only you stood there, not knowing what the hell is going on. - "So, it's negative, right?" - You asked with a peal of horrified laughter only being the single thing you were capable of. And you almost fainted when both of them shook their heads in complete sync.
"All three are positive. So... Congratulations?" - Nancy whispered, still looking at the three pregnancy test in front of you. You, my friend, felt that you were in deep shit since that moment. It was your last day in Maine and the other day, Steve was driving you home again. The whole ride, you were quiet, looking out of the window. When Steve wanted to turn off Baba O’Riley, you stopped his hand by catching it, letting it play. The song was somehow translating to your situation with the lyrics like We’re all wasted and Don’t cry. You were feeling like crying.
Any other girl your age would be fine with it. Well, not fine, but they would somehow accept it. Yet you had a lot to think about. Should you let this one dream go? Should you get rid of the baby before Jim gets to know? What would his reaction even be? Jesus, you weren't that scared ever before. But you couldn't bring yourself to tell him nor to for that abortion. The only thing you did was visiting a doctor to confirm the news. It was too late to let the baby go anyway. The doctor could see you tearing up when they told you... - "Congratulations, you're going to be a mom."
A loud ring bell woke you up from your slumber. Jesus, you weren't ready to go to the hospital as a children psychologist that day. You lower back hurt, you were growling, your tummy was in immersive pain. You were getting real pregnant since the day it was confirmed. Maybe it was time to tell Jim and Eleven - but there was nothing sure until the end of month three, so there was no way telling them beforehand. Your mom knew and she almost went crazy with happiness. Yet the rest, no, you didn't consider it appropriate to tell them just yet.
You were in so much stress, as your doctor said, that you should wait before telling the others the news. There was no wonder - your fucking husband was a stressor at his best, Eleven was now at school in Hawkins, which didn't quite help and your new job as a psychologist in the local hospital was quite a burden too. You wouldn't be even able to finish the semester in time, probably, yet you already told your lector about the situation, thinking about taking something called a pregnancy break or whatever, starting the final semester again after you'd give birth. You'd also had a full right to continue studying while having a child home, taking the exams, and other things.
It wasn’t a big problem since the same man had you under his wings since 1983 and he was still friends with your parents. You already started to work on it with the man - first, you had to prove that you're pregnant for real with some report from your doctor, which you have already done. It was more chill than you'd ever say - you could ask for prolonging your studies without having to pay fees or whatever, but you didn't want to freak yourself out too early about being a real mom and... There was much to talk about.
Nonetheless, even in your first trimester, you felt super-pregnant, super huge and it was a wonder that you somehow covered the constant vomiting. It wasnt happening at that moment mostly, yet when it did, your whole dinner usually ended up in the toilet. You cussed as you ran the stairs down. Jesus, you were gassy as a living fuck. Holy damn. You farted on every step you took and when you needed to burb, well, that was something as well. And you were better at these activities than the boys or even your husband.
"I'm coming! I'm coming, just wait a minute, Jesus!" - You yelled at the door, supporting your lower back with your hand, the other one holding the railing. No-one was at home. Jim was at work and El was with her friends outside, probably having some milkshakes at Murphy’s. You still loved that place and you visited it frequently to talk with Ada and you other co-workers or just to have something ultra-unhealthy there with your family.
When you opened up the door, you felt like if you've run a marathon before that. You still had your palm on your lower back when you smiled at the persons who were ringing. It was a tall woman with a boy standing next to her, smiling at you with a surprise in her face. She expected Jim to open up the door. Instead of her ex-husband, it was a girl who was maybe half his age with a golden ring on her left hand.
"My name’s Y/N Hopper. I'm so sorry I didn't hear you ringing before, I was sleeping." - You smiled at the woman pleasantly, knowing that you've seen her before already. And the boy was just super cute. She nodded and took the sight of you once again. - "What are you looking for? Can I help you?" - You asked, inviting them in for a cup of coffee. Maybe it was the former owner of the house? That was where you knew her from?
"Oh, I'm just looking for James Hopper? His secretary told me he lives here?" - The woman asked while you started to prepare the cattle. She was looking around your kitchen, especially on Sara’s pictures on the walls while her boy wandered off to explore the living room.
"Yeah, he should be home every minute now. Do you and Jim know each other?" - You asked with a smile, making her choose between tea and coffee. She decided to have a coffee.
"My name’s Diane. I'm Jim’s ex-wife." - She told you, and when she did, the mug fell out of your palm, breaking into small pieces. You opened up your mouth, picking everything up before the boy would come there and cut himself. So that was where you knew her from. Jim’s old photos. Of course. - "And I need to talk to James as soon as possible."

PERFECT TIMES ELEVEN EP. 3 TRANSCRIPT
ACT ONE
SCENE FIVE
(REMINGTON and JAY are still seated at the living room table. REMINGTON is leaning forward with his elbows on the table and his head in his hands, bored. JAY is leaning back in his chair, staring at the ceiling, frustrated.)
REMINGTON
I can’t do it. All the voices are too loud, and the “Joyce” one is quiet as shit. It’s like, I‘m listening for “Joyce”, right, but out of nowhere another voice is like “Birds!” and I’m all like “Fuck!”
JAY
(fed up, without looking at REMINGTON)
Try again. It might help if you say “Joyce” along with the voice.
REMINGTON
Can’t you demonstrate? I really won‘t judge.
JAY
(still not looking at REMINGTON)
No.
REMINGTON
C’mon, just take off your little ring there — I’m guessing that’s the accessory you use and just...do your magic.
JAY
No.
(REMINGTON lets her head fall onto the table, exasperated. Jay lifts up a foot and is about to kick her hair when REMINGTON suddenly raises her head again.)
REMINGTON
Were you about to kick my hair?
JAY
Maybe. Maybe not.
REMINGTON
Better have been maybe not. My hair is my best feature. You should get it. I mean, you have lots of good features — like girl, you’re fucking hot — but your hair is pristine.
JAY
Thanks?
REMINGTON
You know what I don’t get?
JAY
(lowering her foot)
A lot of things.
REMINGTON
(ignoring JAY)
Why animals attack me. Is that…normal? I get that it was the sign I needed help with this, but…
JAY
You’re not special. Animals sense the “perfection” in us. In the whole several-human-reincarnations-in-a-row thing. Stay away from zoos.
REMINGTON
Hm. Come on, show me how to do the thing —
JAY
(betrayed)
No!
REMINGTON
Please! I’m really stupid. You’re smart and beautiful and experienced in this and beautiful. I’ll owe you one. Plus, your sugar daddy Dr. Morello’s gonna be pissed if we spent all this time sitting here and accomplished nada.
JAY
Oh, God, please never string those words together in that order again —
REMINGTON
And then he’ll dock your pay from nothing to less than nothing.
JAY
Oh, that makes so much sense. How would he be a hypothetical sugar daddy if he doesn’t pay me? That’s the opposite —
REMINGTON
Do you want your nonexistent salary to suffer, you sadistic bastard?
JAY
If I do it, will you stop talking?
REMINGTON
Probably will.
(JAY takes off her ring and places it on the table. The moment it leaves her hand, she winces.)
JAY
(in pain)
Aghh!
REMINGTON
(shocked)
Shit. Do I call 911?
JAY
(forcefully)
No. Just...watch this. Focus...
(pauses)
Here, this voice’s word is Clara...and then...say the word if it helps...
(pauses, gripping the table with both hands)
Clara...Clara...there. I’m in.
(With a painful movement, JAY grabs her ring. The moment she touches it, she relaxes.)
JAY
You’re welcome for that. Don’t fucking say a word.
(pauses)
Your turn.
(REMINGTON takes off her bracelet and places it on the table. 6. Love is a Constant.)
VOICES
HARVEST, OCEAN, CREATE, CHANGE, FIGHT, ART, FAMILY, FREEDOM, JOYCE, TRADITION, BIRDS.
HARVEST, OCEAN, CREATE, CHANGE, FIGHT, ART, FAMILY, FREEDOM.
REMINGTON/VOICES
JOYCE.
VOICES
TRADITION, BIRDS.
HARVEST, OCEAN, CREATE, CHANGE, FIGHT, ART, FAMILY, FREEDOM.
VOICES
TRADITION, BIRDS.
HARVEST, OCEAN, CREATE, CHANGE, FIGHT, ART, FAMILY, FREEDOM.
REMINGTON/VOICES
JOYCE.
VOICES
TRADITION, BIRDS. HARVEST, OCEAN, CREATE, CHANGE, FIGHT, ART, FAMILY, FREEDOM.
REMINGTON/VOICES
JOYCE. JOYCE. JOYCE. JOYCE.
JAY
Remington? You good? Did it work?
REMINGTON
(strangely tenderly)
Joyce?
(Suddenly, REMINGTON lunges forward and hits JAY's hand. JAY drops her ring onto the table. Almost immediately, she freezes.)
JAY
(also incredibly tender, but even more shockingly because this is JAY we’re talking about)
Clara?
REMINGTON
(overjoyed)
Joyce!
JAY
(gently)
IS IT REALLY YOU? DO I DECEIVE MY MIND?
NEVER IN MY DAYS DID I THINK I WOULD FIND
A KIND OF LIFE AFTER DEATH, NEVERTHELESS YOU!
REMINGTON
Yes, Joyce! It’s me!
JAY
Clara!
REMINGTON
DO YOU RECALL THE EVENING WHEN WE FIRST MET?
JAY
OH, YES, I RECALL!
REMINGTON
AT THE GATE BETWEEN OUR GARDENS, RIGHT AT SUNSET?
AND YOU WORE THAT DRESS, CRIMSON,
JAY/REMINGTON
WITH THOSE BUTTONS LIKE FLOWERS?
REMINGTON
Yes!
JAY
I WAS TOO SHY AT FIRST TO EVEN TELL YOU MY NAME.
REMINGTON
YOU WERE SO SHY!
JAY
BUT WHEN YOU SMILED, MY FACE FLUSHED UP, AFLAME.
YOU MADE ME FEEL AT EASE.
REMINGTON/JAY
WE TALKED AND WROTE FOR HOURS.
WE’VE LIVED, WE’VE DIED, AND NOW WE’RE HERE!
NOT QUITE TOGETHER, BUT, MY DEAR,
WE CAN SEE LOVE IS A CONSTANT!
WE’VE LIVED, WE’VE DIED, AND NOW WE’RE HERE!
UNSURE WHERE THIS IS, BUT I HAVE NO FEAR
SINCE I KNOW LOVE IS A CONSTANT!
REMINGTON
I RECALL ALL THOSE SUITORS WHO’D COME TO YOUR DOOR,
AND
REMINGTON/JAY
WITH EVERY PASSING YEAR THERE’D SEEM TO BE MORE.
REMINGTON
I WAS BAFFLED WHY YOU STILL CHOSE TO SPEND YOUR AFTERNOONS
WITH ME.
JAY
OH, WELL, I WAS FORCED TO MARRY AFTER YOU PASSED.
A RICH MAN, OLD, BUT WITH MONEY AND CLASS
WE HAD NO CHILDREN. HE PASSED AWAY. I LIVED OUT THE REST OF MY DAYS LONELY.
REMINGTON/JAY
WE’VE LIVED, WE’VE DIED, AND NOW WE’RE HERE!
NOT QUITE TOGETHER, BUT, MY DEAR,
WE CAN SEE LOVE IS A CONSTANT.
WE’VE LIVED, WE’VE DIED, AND NOW WE’RE HERE!
UNSURE WHERE THIS IS, BUT I HAVE NO FEAR
SINCE I KNOW LOVE IS A CONSTANT!
LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE
LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE
LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE
LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE IS A CONSTANT, OH,
OUR LOVE
REMINGTON/JAY
I’D FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH I TRULY MISS
OUR TALKS, LONG AFTERNOONS, YOUR TENDER KISS
OH, WHAT I’D GIVE TO LIVE WITH YOU AS MY WIFE.
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND EMBRACE ME, MY LOVE
FORGET THESE HIDEOUS BODIES WE’RE TRAPPED INSIDE OF
OH, HOW I’VE YEARNED FOR YOUR TOUCH ALL MY LIFE.
VOICES
OOH, LOVE IS THEIR CONSTANT...
(Someone is knocking at the door between the kitchen and the living room. It’s DAISY.)
DAISY
Remy? Jay?
(DAISY knocks again.)
VOICES
OOH, LOVE IS THEIR CONSTANT
DR. MORELLO
Are they still in there?
DAISY
I’m pretty sure. Hang on. Guys?
(DAISY knocks a couple more times, louder.)
VOICES
OOH, LOVE IS THEIR CONSTANT
(DR. MORELLO and DAISY enter to see REMINGTON and JAY embrace.)
DR. MORELLO/DAISY
Janette!/Remy fuckin’ Ratatouille!
(DR. MORELLO immediately notices JAY’s ring and REMINGTON’s bracelet on the table. He grabs JAY’s ring and shoves it in her hand. DAISY takes REMINGTON’s bracelet and does the same. JAY instantly snaps out of her trance.)
JAY
Holy —! God! Remington!
(pushing REMINGTON off of her. REMINGTON stumbles a little, almost falling off the table.)
REMINGTON
Shit!
JAY
What the hell was that?
(JAY quickly slips the ring onto her finger, evidently very embarrassed. REMINGTON regains her footing.)
REMINGTON
Eh, who cares. Let’s pick up where they left off —
DR. MORELLO/DAISY/JAY
No!
DR. MORELLO
Remington! Jay! Get down from the table immediately. Sit down!
REMINGTON
(noticing DR. MORELLO and DAISY for the first time)
Oh, shit. Hello. Sorry.
(REMINGTON and JAY make their way down back to their chairs. DAISY nudges DR. MORELLO.)
DAISY
See, I hate to say “I told you so”, but I told you so.
DR. MORELLO
Kids, what happened here?
(There’s a pause.)
REMINGTON
I think we got possessed. By dead lesbians.
DR. MORELLO
Oh.
REMINGTON
The word is most definitely Joyce now though. She’s, uh, she’s got Joyce.
JAY
You know how one of my voices is, uh, named Joyce? And how her word is Clara? She’s Clara.
REMINGTON
I guess Joyce and Clara knew each other back in the day...both in the literal and, uh, biblical sense...
DR. MORELLO
There’s really no need for profane hand motions. Go on.
REMINGTON
And then, well, we ended up in a situation when both of our accessories were off —
JAY
You mean your accessory was off and then you slapped mine out of my hand.
REMINGTON
Clara slapped it out of your hand. Anyway, then we got possessed.
DR. MORELLO
Okay.
REMINGTON
Yeah. Um...what do your big doctor brains think about that?
DR. MORELLO
I...I have never seen anything like this before...but I’m guessing the explanation is actually quite simple.
JAY/REMINGTON
What?
DR. MORELLO
The word a voice says is its most recurring thought manifesting itself as an imprint on the soul. Now, a person has to be quite important to someone if they’re, quite literally, all they think about. And for that to be something going both ways...these ladies certainly had an exceptional bond.
DAISY
Star-crossed gal pals.
DR. MORELLO
Yes. Soulmates, if you will.
JAY
Hold up. “Soulmates” as in Clara and Joyce were just one in a billion, or “soulmates” as in my soul and Remington’s soul?
DR. MORELLO
We have no way of knowing right now, but from what I think — well, this is quite a rare case, especially the fact that an echo of a previous life was able to take over the current host...I’d conclude that, yes, you are “soul-mates”, quite literally.
REMINGTON
So! How ‘bout it, eh, soulmate?
JAY
(ignoring REMINGTON)
That can’t be a real thing, can it?
REMINGTON
Only one way to find out!
DR. MORELLO
Now, seeing as you have actually uncovered some important information, you may have recreational time for the rest of the evening. I need to look deeper into this. Uh, there’s some video games in the cabinet. I’ll be in my office upstairs. Also, I was going to come in here to let you know we’re having pizza for dinner. It should be coming in half an hour.
DAISY
And I made sugar cookies.
(DR. MORELLO leaves dizzily. He looks like he has a headache.)
REMINGTON
Swell! Some quality soulmate time?
JAY
Someone get her away from me.
(DAISY looks back and forth from JAY to REMINGTON. She’s a smart kid. She knows when she should leave people alone.)
REMINGTON
Oh, I get it. You’re too good for me.
DAISY
I’m...gonna head out.
(DAISY exits.)
JAY
Listen, kid, you don’t know shit about me. I don’t know shit about you. It’s better if it stays that way. I don’t know what he’s talking about with this soulmate shit, but I do know that you don’t want to get involved with me and my life.
REMINGTON
Oh, ha. ’Cause you’ve got some kind of “issues”?
(JAY is silent.)
REMINGTON
Wow. Damn, I didn’t know someone could be this angsty in real life. With your wearing-all-black deal and e-girl hair and ear piercings and shit? Ooh, I bet you pierced them yourself with, like, the finger bone of a shark you strangled or something.
JAY
Sharks don’t have fucking fingers. And no; I got them pierced at a mall Claire’s when I was 11.
REMINGTON
(finding this funny)
Off brand, but okay —
JAY
Yeah. Fucking loved Claire’s. Still do. What about it?
(There’s a pause.)
REMINGTON
(quietly)
Nothing. Claire’s is valid. You’re a lady of fine taste.
(REMINGTON and JAY are silent for a moment.)
REMINGTON
They called our bodies “hideous”. Did you hear that?
JAY
Yeah, that was uncalled for.
(They both chuckle a bit awkwardly.)
REMINGTON
Sorry for earlier. It was my fault.
JAY
(tensing back up)
Yeah, it was.
REMINGTON
You could’ve told me listening to your voices...hurt.
(pauses)
How does that even work?
JAY
Didn’t tell you ‘cause I knew you’d ask that.
(pauses, before sighing)
I’m...in a peculiar situation. See, once the voices started to manifest in my soul’s earlier hosts, they...joined groups, or organizations. Similar to this one, but more serious. Cult-ish, almost. They’d dedicate their shitty lives to preserving the goodness of the soul to continue the line of human hosts. One organization like that a good half of my voices was involved with — it was large and thriving and would track down new hosts.
REMINGTON
That’s cool, but why does that...cause pain?
JAY
See, look past the single word a voice presents itself as and you “unlock” the memories of that person. Over time, the more you listen to them, the more they become an interactive collection of memories — almost a voice that reacts to your thoughts.
REMINGTON
So you can talk to them?
JAY
I guess.
REMINGTON
Wack.
(pauses)
Still don’t get why that causes pain.
JAY
We’re humans. We’ve got a limited view of morality that’s shaped by our society. Our perception of “good” or “bad” is probably different than what ultimately is considered by the universe as “good” enough to give a soul a human life. And...some of my voices have views of good or bad that are...incredibly outdated.
REMINGTON
(knowingly, slyly)
Ohhhh.
JAY
What?
REMINGTON
Your voices probably tell you to...ah...hee hee.
JAY
(more frustrated)
What?
REMINGTON
To, ah,
(pauses)
Pray the gay away —
JAY
God.
REMINGTON
They detect your sinful lusty thoughts about the incredibly attractive woman sitting across from you and go “oh, no, dear Janette —“
JAY
Oh God.
REMINGTON
Yeah, don’t pretend I didn’t hear that! “Oh, Janette, you mustn’t! Thinking about holding hands before marriage was already stepping on the line, but this? Oh! Unacceptable!”
JAY
No.
(pauses)
Though in a weird way, you’re on the right track.
REMINGTON
Ha!
JAY
Not like that.
(pauses)
It’s a lot of things, combined. See, I, ah,
(sucks air through teeth, evidently uncomfortable)
don’t fully identify as female, I think. I mean, I use female pronouns, but...I don’t know. I don’t fucking know because I don’t have room to figure out who I am. Don’t even have my fucking brain to myself. It started when I was a kid, but, throughout the years, it’s just gotten worse and worse and now — they just...scream at me. And it’s fucking loud. It’s so fucking loud.
(7. Bad Luck.)
JAY
IF I THINK I’M SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT I’VE TOLD THE WORLD I AM,
I’VE GOT TEN VOICES TELLING ME OTHERWISE.
IF I DON’T EXACTLY STRIKE MYSELF AS A WOMAN OR A MAN,
EACH ONE OF THEM DOESN’T HESITATE TO PULVERIZE
WHATEVER CONCEPTION OF MYSELF I HAVE AN INKLING OF
THAT DOESN’T FIT THEIR TINY MIND.
YOU’RE LUCKY YOU HAVEN’T FREED YOUR VOICES YET.
YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE WHAT YOU FIND!
THESE TEN SUCKERS HAVE WASTED THEIR YEARS
LIVING LIKE BEES IN A HIVE,
TRAINED TO MAINTAIN THE SOUL’S PURITY.
WHAT A TERRIBLE WAY TO STAY ALIVE!
THEY’RE STUCK UP, SHITTY PEOPLE —
REMINGTON
EVEN JOYCE?
JAY
EVEN JOYCE.
YOU KNOW, IT FUCKING SUCKS TO BE A "CHOSEN ONE"
‘CAUSE IT JUST MEANS YOU NEVER GET ANY CHOICE!
THEY SAY "JAY! YOU’RE PART OF A LEGACY!”
“JAY! WITH YOUR HELP, WE’RE GONNA GO SO FAR!”
“JAY! THIS IS YOUR DESTINY!”
“C’MON, JUST PLAY YOUR TINY ROLE IN PRESERVING THIS SOUL.”
“JAY! YOU MUST STAY CLEAN AND PURE!
A HUMAN REINCARNATION WE GOTTA GUARANTEE!"
WELL, SORRY YOU GOT A HOST SO IMMATURE —
IT WAS YOUR BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME.
AS A KID, I’D DO ANYTHING TO REBEL.
I’D STEAL SHIT AND I WOULD LIE.
I WAS A BIT OF AN ATTENTION WHORE, IF YOU COULDN’T TELL
AND I BET YOU CAN GUESS WHY.
TO PISS OFF THE VOICES, OF COURSE, JUST FOR FUN!
I’D NEVER REALLY BEEN FORGIVING.
THEY CALLED ME "ABOMINATION" SO I GAVE THEM ONE.
BEING AT WAR WITH YOURSELF’S A NEAT WAY OF LIVING.
OH, AND WAY BACK WHEN I WAS FOUR,
MY FATHER LEFT MY MOM AND ME.
HE THOUGHT I WAS A FREAK OR A BURDEN OR A CHORE;
MOST LIKELY, SOME COMBO OF THE THREE.
MY HOUSE GOT SET ON FIRE A FEW YEARS BACK
BUT THERE’S NO TIME FOR THAT STORY.
SUMMARY: MY MOM PERISHED IN THAT ATTACK.
IT WAS DEPRESSING AND A BIT GORY,
SO EVERYONE GOES
"JAY, WE’RE SO SORRY ABOUT IT!"
WELL, I DON’T NEED YOUR BULLSHIT APOLOGY!
AND DO YOU REALLY CARE HOW I FEEL? I DOUBT IT.
DREAM ON, YOU CUCK. YOU’RE FRESH OUTTA LUCK.
"JAY! YOU DIDN’T DESERVE IT!"
WHAT’S SAD IS I DON’T AGREE
NO ONE’S GOT THE GUTS TO ADMIT IT WAS JUST
THEIR BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME!
I’M NATURE’S BAD LUCK CHARM.
STAY AWAY FROM ME, STAY AWAY FROM HARM.
UNLESS YOU’RE LOOKING FOR YOUR LIFE TO GET WORSE,
LEAVE ME ALONE.
I’M NATURE’S BAD LUCK CHARM.
STAY AWAY FROM ME, STAY AWAY FROM HARM.
YOU GOTTA TRUST ME ON THIS; IT’S LIKE A CURSE
SO LEAVE ME ALONE.
I’M NATURE’S BAD LUCK CHARM.
STAY AWAY FROM ME, STAY AWAY FROM HARM.
UNLESS YOU WANNA END UP A CORPSE IN A HEARSE,
LEAVE ME ALONE!
I’M NATURE’S BAD LUCK CHARM.
STAY AWAY FROM ME, STAY AWAY FROM HARM.
YOU GOTTA TRUST ME ON THIS; IT’S LIKE A CURSE
SO LEAVE ME ALONE!
"JAY! YOU’RE PART OF A LEGACY!”
“JAY! WITH YOUR HELP, WE’RE GONNA GO SO FAR!”
“JAY! THIS IS YOUR DESTINY!”
“C’MON, JUST PLAY YOUR TINY ROLE IN PRESERVING THIS SOUL.”
JAY! WHAT A FUCKED UP KID! ON THAT, EVERYONE CAN AGREE!
JAY! OH, I’M SORRY YOU DID,
BUT IT WAS BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME.
(gesturing to REMINGTON, imitating her)
"JAY! DON’T YOU WANNA HANG OUT?”
“JAY! C’MON, LET’S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER!"
(to REMINGTON)
CAN’T YOU GET MY SIGNS OR DO I HAVE TO SHOUT
“MOVE ON BECAUSE I’M JUST A WASTE OF YOUR TIME!’
"JAY, WHY ARE YOU BEING SO RUDE?"
I’M TRYING TO PROTECT YOU! CAN’T YOU SEE?
ANYONE AND EVERYONE I LOVE IS SCREWED!
IT’S ALWAYS BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME!
IT’S ALWAYS BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME!
IT’S ALWAYS BAD LUCK TO GET STUCK WITH ME!

YES PLEASE SCREAM ABOUT STRANGER THINGS!! 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
YES OKAY HERE WE GO
i absolutely loved it. what an amazing show. the characters?? the tacky 80s vibe??? the lore? the Emotionne???? AMAZING. also the soundtrack slaps so hard
i mean yeah the latest season had its problems but it also had some of the best character dynamics. the girls' friendship for example. i didn't like how they made el hate max in s2 but now their friendship became so strong in s3 wow. also ROBIN!!!! An Icon!!! BEST GAL!!!!!
Will. somebody hug will. please, could somebody just hug that boy??? he just wants to be with his friends for god's sake, when he teared down his little den, his castle in the forest GOD I FELT THAT that's the inherent pain of being a teenager but spiced up with will's trauma and my dudes, i cried at that part
also mike was a cutie for most time but he really was a little shit some points in s3 but i'm glad he realised it
dustin. baby boy. baby. enough said.
and AND AND i gotta talk about nancy wheeler and jonathan byers because look at them, aren't they the peak of romance?? oblivious pining, battle couple, shared trauma and the classic oh-no-there-was-only-one-bed trope??? plus they are both amazing characters, jonathan is so strong, right from the beginning i admire that and nancy grows so much to the point where she straight up doesn't take shit from anyone??? a straight couple truly worth stanning
and let us not forget steve 'mom friend' harrington because i went into this show knowing he'll be an asshole and then somehow get better. but i did not expect him to be this much of an asshole and then get THIS much better. and all that without a flashy prince zuko-storyline (don't get me wrong, zuko's arc is one of the best things i've seen) steve grew to be a better person just because??? just because that's what growing up is like sometimes?? just because he could??? anyways i love him
needless to say i love hopper and joyce too. and that reminds me, it's such a little detail but i loved the way they handled flashback. especially back in season 1. it was amazingly well done, congrats to the showmakers
anyways, great show, sucks you in right from the first episode. where's season 4?

A Buffy rewatch 4x15 This Year’s Girl
aka surprise bitch
Welcome to this dailyish text post series where I will rewatch an episode of Buffy and go on an impromptu rant about it for an hour. Is it about one hyperspecific thing or twenty observations? 10 or 3k words? You don’t know! I don’t know!!! In this house we don’t know things.
And today’s episode is SO GOOD. It is soo good, you guys!!!! Just as good as you remember it.
Tumblr media
What I love about This Year’s Girl is that even some of the meh-y s4 plot elements work in it. Adam as a background invisible threat doing demon autopsies is legit chilling. Forrest is still the worst, but Riley mostly works as the guy who didn’t watch s3. And I love the running gag of the Scoobies checking him for hidden chips because foreshadowing.
The Scoobies themselves are working together and yet still scattered. Xander and Giles running into Spike and asking for his help, and him reminding them once again that he’s evil is priceless.
Tumblr media
And of course the scene between Willow and Tara is adorable… even if it uses way too much slut-shaming language.
(To be fair though, it unfortunately isn’t a rare occurrence for the show or Willow to use that kind of language. Especially with Faith who we know she has a grudge against. You could almost say that it’s in character. I just… you know… wish it wasn’t. Not to mention that a writer chose to write it that way…)
Now that we’ve got all that, let’s talk some about the main attraction of this episode - Faith.
YOU GUYS DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I LOVE FAITH IN THIS EPISODE, YOU GUYS!!! GUYS!!!!!!
And you know what, hands down to Eliza Dushku, because the way she’s playing Faith when she’s alone is such a wonderful and subtle performance. It feels especially powerful when contrasted with the Faith we see in a confrontation or a fight, often with Buffy. That Faith is full of posturing and manic energy, and yes, innuendos. So many innuendos.
The Faith we meet in the quiet however, is much more reflective. And sad. I love the score in the episode too, as it both underscores (heh, get it) that and fills it with an ominous atmosphere. We feel sympathy for Faith, but we’re also supposed to wonder what she’ll do next.
It doesn’t really help that the Scoobies clearly have no idea how they’d be handling a Grey Faith. Riley jokes about how he doesn’t know how to handle grey the way Buffy does, but when it comes down to it, the Scoobies’ response to the idea of Faith’s Heel-Face revolving door doesn’t really support that.
Willow and Xander are Pro Kick Her Ass, which I just realized… Is a s2 finale callback? It must be. And this time Willow is the one saying it. Oh my God. You guys… Willow did tell Buffy to kick her love interest’s ass at some point, it’s true.
Tumblr media
(At least she didn’t lie about Xander saying it. He just straight up agreed with her in person.)
Giles does say that ‘perhaps there’s some form of rehabilitation’, but he lacks any conviction or specifics. And as much as Buffy theorizes that maybe Faith is scared, she’s still thinking in binary. Faith is either sorry and is ready and willing to be redeemed - or she’s angry and a threat that needs to be dealt with.
This isn’t an unfair assessment though, and in many ways, a necessary mindset for Buffy to have. She’s compassionate, but she also has a responsibility. If someone poses a supernatural threat, she can’t just Power of Love through it and hope for the best. She has the power to fight, and she’s often the only one with the power to stop them. She is the law.
(This theme of course will come up even more so in s6 and s7, especially in the context of Willow and Anya.).
Whatever the motive, at the end of the day, her and the gang’s attitude only works to reinforce Faith’s outlook. She can’t go back and she can’t move forward. She’s stuck with no one to fall back onto, now that the Mayor’s gone.
And the Mayor’s last message to her is both adorable (look at her little smile in the screencap) and highlights the inherent toxicity of that relationship. As much as the Mayor may have cared about Faith, it still wasn’t the kind of love that recognizes the needs of the other.
Telling someone you love that there’s nothing else in the world for them once you’re gone? That’s the work of pure evil, my friend.
In a way, I feel like Faith mostly goes along the body-switching plan because it gave her something to do. Faith is all about action - good or bad, she must keep moving.
The way she acts with Joyce especially felt like a performance. She’s playing the part of the psycho murderer more than anything - and maybe that’s just because she’s executing a plan… Or maybe it just feels that way here, because we see her in those quiet moments as well in this episode.
Faith’s dreams are another part of that puzzle. And the way Buffy is portrayed in them is especially intriguing to me.
There are three layers to this.
1) Bufy and Faith are connected as Slayers, and therefore can appear in each others dreams. This especially seems true in the first dream, where Buffy’s dream persona is the closest to her actual character.
This dream is also very similar to the one Buffy has in Graduation Part 2. I then suggested that it might actually be the same core dream, only shaped differently by the dreamers perspective. Even the foreshadowing and metaphorical language is in a similar vein (clean sheets that smell like Summer which Faith wouldn’t know about).
Tumblr media
Except this dream ends with Buffy twisting the knife in Faith. Which brings me to my next points.
2) The Buffy Faith sees in her dream is also informed by how she perceives Buffy. She felt betrayed by Buffy long before she went over to the dark side. Her Slayer gal pal stabbing her to save Angel? That was the final twisting of the knife, reminding her that Buffy would always choose him over her.
I suppose Faith also sees Buffy as the person who took her last connection away from her in the form of the Mayor. Which is what we see in Faith’s second dream, but I’m more prone to interpret that as…
3) …Faith projecting herself onto dream Buffy, much like Buffy did with Drusilla in Surprise. This interpretation especially jumps out in the third dream, where Faith is running away from a Buffy that’s stalking her with the knife she stabbed her with.
But Faith can’t keep running from herself, and as she slips and falls into a grave, it gives enough time for her past to catch up with her. And as she re-emerges, accepting the killer as part of her, she wakes up.
Of course, there’s also just the trauma itself of being stabbed by Buffy that gives a much more obvious layer to these dreams. There’s a lot going on here, as is the case usually with dream sequences on this show.
On the other side of this, we’ve got Buffy. I personally feel like there’s an understanding here that she feels guilty about how things went down between them, but it’s not explicit.
In the scene where Riley is trying to get her to tell him more about what else happened with Faith, and what Faith’s done to her, I feel like the intention may have been to show that she’s keeping the Angel-related details from him… But my mind immediately went to how Buffy might be thinking about what she’s done to Faith.
The first (real) interaction between Faith and Buffy is also just super loaded, but it’s telling that neither of them are making the first move to fight… Not until the cops show up. There’s taunting and innuendo, of course, and Buffy makes a half-hearted plea to Faith.
“It doesn’t have to be like this.”
But Faith is not ready to let down, and Buffy is quick to match her pace. Maybe too quick, but remember… Murder… Also, responsibility.
Here’s one more thing I want to leave you guys with to think about though. Buffy receiving the call from the hospital means that she was Faith’s emergency contact. And sure, you can take that as Buffy leaving her information at the hospital after Faith got into her coma, to make sure that she knows if (and when) she wakes up…
…But imagining Faith listing Buffy as her emergency contact at some point in some form beforehand is much more fun, and causes much more pain to me.
You can’t stop me from making myself sad with Fuffy. It’s what I do.

Falling With You
steve harrington x reader
– one-shot
– synopsis: You were the best babysitter ever. Who else would take the kids to an abandoned hospital? It’s just too bad Steve Harrington doesn’t think the same. (age; 17-18) (au where you’re will and jonathan’s sibling)
– notes: so this is pure fluff and i don’t think i edited it that well, but I HOPE YOU ENJOY, as always theres a slight swear warning, and i guess an accident tw?? the reader hurts their leg a bit. let a gal know if you want to be added to the tag list!!
You were the best god damn baby sitter ever.
For about two weeks, your little brother Will has been talking about an abandoned old hospital about an hour out of town. It was small, not a massive structure, and you knew it wasn’t unheard of for some people to go out there at night and explore. Will and his friends had wanted to go so bad, but the only possible way they could get there by themselves was with their bikes which would take a while. Since Jonathan was the only one with a car, they had asked him to take them, but he quickly rejected that idea. Apparently, it was too dangerous. What an uptight loser.
But of course, being the better sibling, you had no reservations about taking them. You just needed the right opportunity. And finally, it had come.
Today was the day you got to babysit the gang. Jonathan had gotten news the day before that he had to take an emergency shift when Joyce was also working. You were quick to offer your very free baby sitting services to make sure they wouldn’t call Steve Harrington to take over. There wasn’t any need for that Farrah Fawcett hair wannabe. He’d spoil the fun.
Just last night you had borrowed Jonathan’s car to scope out the hospital. You had said you were just going over to Nancy’s house to study, but that was a blatant lie. Really, you just wanted to make sure there weren’t any weird things lying about the old place, and to get a lay of the land so you wouldn’t get lost leading them around. You weren’t as uptight as your brother or Steve, but you still gave a damn about their safety.
But now? Now it was time to let them know the good news. Making your way into the dining room area, where Mike, Max, Dustin, Lucas, El, and Will were all crowded around talking over one another in a flurry of words you couldn’t understand, you unceremoniously smashed the car keys you had hidden from Jonathan this morning (making him walk to work), and yelled out, “who’s ready to go to the doctors?”
All you got in return was a collective stare of confusion from the kids. Maybe that wasn’t as clever as you thought.
Clearing your throat slightly, you tried to nonchalantly twirl the key ring around your finger as you stated, “we’re going to go to that abandoned hospital while it’s still light out, get your butts in the car.” You had never heard such a chorused reaction. Will smiled brightly as he raised his fist in the air excitedly, looking towards Dustin and Lucas who both chattered excitedly. Max seemed indifferent, but you easily knew she was just as excited as they were. El just looked at Mike, who stared at you and said the obvious, “all of us aren’t going to fit in the car.” Dustin let out a long groan of, “come on, Mike.”
“You guys are small, and it’s only a short ride. Two of you can sit in the front, and four of you can squish in the back. As long as you don’t tell your parents,” you said pointedly, glaring your eyes playfully at your little brother, “then I don’t see much of an issue.” As reserved as Mike still seemed, everyone was already up and moving out the door so he really couldn’t argue. Patting his back gently, you muttered, “don’t worry so much, El will protect you from any big bad we may find,” before skipping out the door with the rest of them, just as excited.
As soon as you stepped outside, Dustin, Lucas, and Will were all fighting for shot gun on the front porch. “Why don’t you guys just rock, paper, scissors for it?” you offered, as you popped open the driver’s side of Jonathan’s beat up car. As the boys proceeded to just that, you gave a knowing nod at Max who quickly scurried into the middle passengers seat and shut the door. You heard Dustin exclaim, “that’s not fair,” as you gave a conspiring grin to the red-headed girl.
As the rest of the kids climbed in the car, Lucas seemingly winning the coveted final shot-gun spot, you double checked to see that everyone was safe and secure before pulling out of the gravel lot and driving off.
The trip ended up being a bit shorter than an hour, thank God for that. Being in a cramped car with a bunch of noisy preteens turned out to be not the most enjoyable experience. Especially since you had to pull over the car twice for Dustin who had to go to the bathroom. What kind of mutant bladder did that kid even have?
By the time you had pulled the car into a small dirt lot walking distance the hospital, you were so close to ripping Jonathan’s steering wheel out and hurdling it into the back seat at them. Instead, you went the moral route. “Hey!” you shouted, clapping your hands for added dramatic effect. They all quickly quieted down and stared at you with wide eyes. “Be careful while we’re in they’re alright? Don’t separate from the group, and we have to be out before it get’s dark. Got it?”
Lucas was the first to speak up, adding “but what if—”
You raised your hand up to cut him off. “Nope. Those are the rules.” The group collectively muttered various agreements, as everyone scrambled out of the car. Stretching your limbs out, you turned to glance down at your little brother who’s eyes were glued to the street. “Will, what’s up?”
Turning his attention towards you, his eyebrows were slightly creased. “Uh, no, it’s nothing. I just thought I saw Steve’s car behind us for a while there.” Oh no. Oh shit. “You thought you saw Steve’s car?” you questioned carefully, gripping both of his shoulders and holding on for dear life. “Yeah! But no one’s here, someone must have had a similar car…” he trailed off, his eyes wandering to look over your shoulder again. His face dropped a bit.
Turning to look over your own shoulder with a slowness and anticipation only seen in horror movies, you let out a long breath as you noticed a very familiar car pull into the lot. “Here comes dad, everyone” you muttered out loud. Dustin stifled back a snorted laugh.
Letting go of Will, you moved him a little behind you as if to block him from view of the fight that was inevitable about to happen. Such innocent eyes shouldn’t have to bear witness to something that was going to be so utterly disappointing.
“What do you guys think you’re doing here,” Steve’s demanding voice rung out as he opened his car door, swinging it shut behind him in an almost theatrical motion. He planted his hands on his hips. Here we go.
“Have you taken up stalking now, Harrington?” you questioned with a quirked smirk, stepping up to the boy who was dressed in some sort of gym uniform. Must have had basketball practice or something. Not that you noticed what he did in his spare time. Nope.
“Stalking?” He sputtered out in a bit of shock, before trying to cover it up with a laugh of disbelief. “No. I went to your house to give Dustin the hat he forgot in my car since I knew he was there, but instead I saw someone cramming six kids into one small car,” he accused pointedly. Fair.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you inquired defensively, “so what? You just decided to follow us? Steve, you really should get a hobby.”
It seemed that pinched a nerve. Good.
Making a scoffing noise, Steve stepped closer to you as if to intimidate you. It didn’t work. “I was going to offer to drive some of them to wherever the hell you were going if I caught up to you, but I didn’t think you were going to this freaking death trap!” You gave a small fake yawn, as Max mumbled behind you, “this is getting boring.” You agreed.
“Seriously, we’re going back, get in” Steve continued, as he marched his way over to his car and opened up the back seat door, pointing inside like some lame ass admiral. No one made any effort to move as he just gave a stern look back. After about a half a minute long stare down, all he did was breathe out a frustrated, “really?”
Rolling your eyes, you walked up to his car and slammed his door shut. “You can leave if you want, Steve. It’s alright. We know you don’t like fun,” you smiled as you brushed past him, Lucas giving a small ‘ooo’ sound as you did. “Come on guys, let’s go ghost hunting,” you cheerfully stated, wrapping your arm around Will’s shoulder as the small group began to make their way down the trail. You heard gravel moving behind you as if Steve was pacing, but after about a minute, his steps caught up to you.
Dropping your arm away from your brother, Steve was quick to grip it and stop you in your tracks. “What now?” you bit out, turning to face his hard look. Dang. Intense looked kind of good on him.
“Come on, are we going or not?” Mike pressed as he turned to look at you two from the head of the trail. Sighing, you shrugged your arm from Steve and ordered, “just follow the trail and we’ll catch up. Don’t go in without us.” Will was the only one who seemed slightly hesitant, but a tiny smile at your brother seemed to reassure him enough as he moved along with the rest of his friends.
“Do you even know what could be in there? Squatters. Dangerous medical equipment. Murderers!” Steve exclaimed, as he actually threw his hands up into the air. Wow. You’d never seen anyone actually do that before. “You really think that lowly of me? Steve, I was here last night. Other than a few old structures, it’s safe. It’s pretty much gutted,” you commented honestly. You were more hurt than anything at his lack of trust in you. You were only a year younger than him, and had taken care of the kids countless times. “We’re only going to be here for an hour or two, tops. Besides, I have my pocket knife on me,” you added with a shrug of your shoulders.
“You have a what?!” He hollered out. Mmm. Maybe you shouldn’t have mentioned that.
Poking his chest, he stumbled back a bit as you glared up at the taller boy. “Oh don’t you judge me, Steve Harrington. Are you telling me that if I go look in the trunk of your car right now, I won’t find that nail bat in there?” you gritted out, as his eyes seemed genuinely a little stunned. He sat there stuttering for a second, as if unsure what to say, but still wanting to prove he was right. In the end he gave up. Sweet victory.
“Okay. Fine,” he sighed.
For a beat, you two just stood their eyeing each other down, but it was broken all too soon when he hesitantly asked, “do you mind if we go back so I can grab it?” You didn’t even try to stop the laughter that busted out of you. He just gave you a dirty look as you tried to calm yourself down enough to smile and say, “yeah we can go get it.”
By the time you two had finally made it to the front entrance of the small, three story hospital, the kids were no where in sight. Oops.
“Perfect. This is great!” Steve chastised, turning to give you a disapproving look. Oh no. He wasn’t pinning this on you.
“This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t shown up and needed to get that stupid bat of yours!” you shot back, stomping up the steps of the hospital and swinging open the rickety, pale green door. Shit. They weren’t even inside the entrance. Where the hell could they have gone?
“This bat isn’t stupid, and it’s sure as hell better than whatever crappy little switch blade you have with you.” You gasped in fake melodramatic shock, whirling to look back at him. “Well,” you breathed, trying to come up with another comeback. You came up flat as you weakly retorted, “I have better hair than you.” Steve just chuckled, bumping his shoulder into yours as he passed by with a bored, “we both know that isn’t true.” Yeah. He was right, But you wouldn’t admit it.
Dragging your hands down your face, you span around the dirty area in frustration. “Maybe we should just split up and look for them? You take one side, I’ll take the other?” Steve quickly shot that idea down as he said, “Uh, no. Splitting up is the worst thing we can do. We should wait here until they get back.”
“Well that’s a stupid idea too,” you mumbled, as you began to walk up the eastern corridor, not even waiting for Steve. They weren’t some lost kids in a grocery store. He just let out an aggravated groan before catching up to you.
You began to search rooms in a somewhat comfortable silence, making a passing comment here or there about how weird the place was or pointing out any sign that one of the kids had passed by. You half suspected them of playing some twisted game of hide and seek being how quiet they all were, but before you had time to propose such a theory, Steve spoke first.
“So why did you take them here?” Turning to give him a look that you hope read ‘don’t argue with me again or I’ll use your own bat against you’, he lifted his one free hand in feigned innocence. “Just curious.”
Studying him for a moment, you let your guard down a tiny bit as you began poking around in a large room you once suspected was an emergency ward. “Will had mentioned it a few times. I knew that if I didn’t take them, they’d end up just finding a way to get here themselves,” you stated truthfully, as you moved a squeaky curtain from side to side. Steve stepped behind it, and as you moved it away to reveal his face, he contorted his features into a goofy look. With a grin, you laughed and gave him a playful push away. Stepping back out of the room to continue the search, you continued, “anyways, I thought it’d be kind of fun. They seemed really excited about it.”
He nodded along, glancing down at you as you walked side by side. “Makes sense. Those weirdos would have ridden their bikes down here,” he offered, as you both laughed at the image. Yeah, that would have been pretty bad.
Moving into the next space, you noted how the wooden floor creaked under you. Too bad you needed to cross it to get the next corridor. Turning to warn Steve to walk across it one at a time, unsure it would support both of your weight, your hypothesis was unfortunately proved correct as he stepped on the floor after you and it cracked and began to cave in. Letting out a small yelp of surprise as you started to fall through, you shut your eyes tightly, bracing for impact. You barely registered the deep shout of your name as hands wrapped around you, pressing your body hard against theirs, head nestled to their chest.
Blinking open your eyes as a severe pain radiated through your leg, you winced under the uncomfortable feeling of whatever you landed on. It looked to be a bunch of boxes. Thank fuck they weren’t filled with used needles or something.
Feeling one of the hands around your waist clutch tighter, you tried to wriggle your way out of Steve’s death grip. “Y/N, are you okay?” he moaned, as he rolled over to flop off the cushion of boxes, and on to the cement floor. Could have been worse. He could have still been holding his nail bat.
Trying to move yourself to the ground to join him, you had to stop as any sort of shift in your leg caused a sharp shooting pain that almost made you bite the inside of your cheek off. Not good. Not good at all.
“My leg kind of hurts,” you underplayed with a wince, as Steve struggled to get himself off the ground to stand up. You felt a small blush rise to your cheeks as the bottom half of his shirt lifted when he stretched up, revealing a bit of his abs. Man, did he have those all along?
“Bend down, let me see if you have any cuts or anything,” you motioned, just about ready to make this bed of boxes your new home. Not like you were moving anytime soon.
“Bend down?” He asked a little confused, as he did just that. But instead of showing you his face, he simply moved to inspect your leg. What a little asshole. “How much does your leg hurt, Y/N?” He questioned, as he moved your pant leg up a bit. To try and stop yourself from yelling out in pain at the sudden motion, you slammed your hand down on the box and squeaked out a totally normal sounding, “not that bad.” Super subtle.
“Sounds like it,” he muttered, as he moved one of his hands to your back and the other arm under your legs. This time you didn’t hold back the painful cry you let out, as he picked you up princess style. You didn’t know what was more painful, your leg, or your embarrassment.
“Put me down!” you complained, as Steve tried to shift you into a more comfortable position as he carried you gently across the room. “Calm down,” he gritted out, as he tried his best to sit on the floor cross-legged, setting you on his lap while still cradling you. Oh God, you were going to die down here. You were going to die cradled in Steve’s arms, smelling like old dried up hospital and residual Farrah Fawcett hairspray.
“Steve, please, I’m begging you put me on the ground,” you complained, tensing up at how weird the situation was. Even he was avoiding eye contact. “Look, I don’t know what’s wrong with your leg, but this way it won’t shift,” he stated, his hands slightly moving down your back.
Slumping a bit in his arms, you turned your head to look down at your folded hands, fighting the rising heat spreading to your cheeks. You couldn’t come up with an argument to fight his reason.
After about five minutes of absolute silence, Steve whistled under his breath. Yeah, no, you couldn’t just sit around and wait like this. “Uhm, should we yell out or something? I’m sure one of them is bound to hear,” you mumbled, clearing your throat as you glanced up at his face. He looked down, and it was like you finally just noticed how close you two really were. Oh no.
“Uh, yep. Probably a good idea,” he agreed a little softly, as neither of you made any motion to open your mouths and actually yell anything out.
“Hey, can I ask you something?” Steve quickly asked, as you cocked your head to the side a bit. You had no idea where this was headed. “Yeah, sure,” you replied, studying his features as he seemed to be struggling with his words. Smiling a little, you teasingly said, “not like I’m going anywhere anyways.” He visibly relaxed.
“You said something before about how I think lowly of you,” he started, as he looked up at the gaping hole in the ceiling where you guys fell, breaking eye contact. You weren’t sure you were going to like this conversation. “Is that really what you think?”
“Yes,” you replied, before quickly changing the answer to, “no. I’m not really sure. You just seem to treat me like one of the kids a lot, like I’m irresponsible. I don’t think you trust me, is all.”
Immediately, his eyes found yours again, shock written all over his face. “No, no you have that all wrong!” He countered, with just a touch of panic in his voice. Giving him a slightly curious gaze, he seemed to be searching your face for something as he continued, “it’s not that at all.” You weren’t particularly sure what to reply to that, but as his wandering eyes settled to look at your lips, you weren’t sure you’d have to.
Lowering his head, Steve hesitantly pressed his lips against yours in the most soft, tentative kiss. It lasted only a moment before he pulled back, but you instinctively moved your head forward, already missing it.
His hand tightened a little on your back, as he waited for your reaction with an anxious look. You said the first thing that came to your still hazy mind.
“So you don’t think I’m a bad babysitter?”
A beat passed as you both stared at one another in silence, but as a snort escaped you, you both bursted into loud laughter. Covering your face with your hands, you bent down to nestle your head under the crook of his neck, slightly embarrassed.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a while,” he continued to laugh, with a little bit of smugness laced in his tone. Shifting to look back at him, you shook your head in disbelief as you stated, “then we have to do a better job than that.” Wrapping your arms around his neck, and kissing him back fervently. This one was a bit more deep and intense, and holy hell, you would curl your toes if it didn’t hurt so god damn much.
As you tangled your fingers through his silky hair, you nearly melted when a soft moan escaped him, and suddenly, the whole falling through the floor situation didn’t seem as bad.
“Eww, I don’t want to see that!”
Yeah, suddenly it was much, much worse.
Breaking apart, you turned to look up to where your brother Will was poking his head through the giant hole, the rest of the kids soon following suite. Steve in a jerk reaction let go on his hold on you, and you tumbled on to the floor in an aching heap as a result.
Ignoring the rebirth of pain in your leg, you and Steve both shouted out, “don’t tell your parents what happened!” at the same time.

"max is being controlling of eleven" ummm no mike is and max is giving elle some genuine friendship in the form of teaching her girl to stick up for herself when boys treat her like a pet. idgaf if he's scared of losing her, he isn't her only friend and to be honest, i went out with boys who were "protective" like that when i was younger and i WISH i had a max in my life to tell them to listen to me and get the fuck out of our space when we chilled because it wasn't boyfriend time, it was chilling wit ya girls time and he should have at least knocked. it was cute a season and a half ago but he's been a total dick to everyone, including eleven, because he's Sad when literally everyone almost lost her and will and literally everyone else in existence. also, where the fuck is this energy over will? i get joyce and hopper being like that over the two because they're their PARENTS but even they're not treating the kids like objects, they're just responding as parents do when their children are traumatized and in danger. why the fuck isn't mike hanging out with will the way he keeps asking for (i.e. playing dnd) when he's apparently so desperate to have one last good summer? it isn't concern over the situatuon, it's a little boy with a crush and he's handling it like a shithead. he was never as obsessively concerned for will as he gets over eleven and will was his friend first. they're actually supposed to be closer than anyone is to eleven. also, if he gave as much of a shit about her as he claims he wouldn't be so goddamn possessive over her like a little weirdo. stop defending his actions, idc if he's a kid, he needs to get sat down and chewed out by everyone. i really wanna watch the whole season but from what i saw of mike so far i feel like i'm gonna like him less than last season. also because of this i really do NOT want him to actually move forward with a relationship with her because it's not good for her. dating anyone isn't healthy for her but mike is especially bad for her because he can't even listen to her after seeing her throw a FUCKING VEHICLE over their heads with her mind and then save the world. TWICE. he's the type of boy that will convince her she can't do things that are 100% in her ability because he's too goddamn weak to handle that. she, and honestly the whole friend group, would have a much nicer summer if mike wasn't such a goddamn asshole all the time. and the fact that people are defending him when last season people were getting on hopper, a man who is effectively her FATHER, was hiding her from people who wanted her DEAD. no he didn't handle it the best but at least i can get behind that state of mind. a little boy with a gross, overbearing crush is not the same as a frightened dad trying to do his job and protect his little girl. and that's exactly what she is. a little girl. and she doesnt need to worry about some boy's feelings as much as she needs to have a fun summer and make gal pals and friends who believe in her without question, wholeheartedly support her, and help her grow into herself as a strong and capable young woman.
what he should be doing is treating eleven with that level of respect and plAYING DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS WITH HIS BEST FRIEND WHO LITERALLY DIED AND IS JUST AS FUCKED UP AS ELEVEN IS RIGHT NOW AND NEEDS THAT SAME LEVEL OF FRIENDSHIP AND AFFECTION. WHAT THE FUCK. WILL NEEDS SOMEONE TO BASEMENT DWELL WITH. STOP FORCING THE BOY TO THIRD WHEEL AND DRAGGING HIM OUT INTO SITUATIONS HE DOESN'T WANNA BE IN. holy sHIT.
