okay but considering what you've gone off about with Lilith, Bump, and Gus and Willow, I GOTTA know what you think about Alador now???
Alador Blight was such a good highlight to this episode. Fan theory can spout off as much as they want about abusive elements, manipulation, arranged marriage, Alador/Darius, etc. A lot of those notions hit on the money, some are just speculation. In the end, I appreciate the journey. I wanna talk about his characterization and portrayal. I'd like to preface with that this is just me talking, no fact or fiction, just interpretation from a nerd.
In Escaping Expulsion, he stops Odalia because he recognizes Amity's growth. Her power and strength, and he notes that that type of drive is what the Emperor's Coven looks for. Because he thinks that's what she wants, and he sees the silver lining for both their sakes.
Tumblr media
He looks back on his childhood with fondness, but also has a sense of pride/embarrassment at how openly in awe Amity is of his past. She states that she wants to be like him, and how she finds excitement in that. He downplays it for her sake because he wants better for her (or at the very least, in the way Odalia does). Thinking for as fun as it was, that's not what Amity---the Amity he knew as a child---would've wanted.
Tumblr media
But the important takeaway in the end is that he's out of touch. He's realizing he doesn't know a thing about his kids. He feels confused. Like he wasn't sure how or when it all changed. His youngest daughter has a girlfriend, she's complaining about her hair colour and not wanting to join a coven anymore. But mainly? She's complaining that he doesn't know anything.
Tumblr media
But he admits something he observed. Something he knows. For everything he doesn't know, for all that he's out of the loop in, he breaches a topic he knows for certain and it happens to be the very thing Amity can be glad about.
Tumblr media
But when he goes for a hug and she responds with a boundary, he's disappointed. He respects it, but is disappointed and surprised. He's out of touch with his kids and the closest display of physical affection him---a father---is allowed to breach, is a handshake. And she says it's a start. Him confronting his wife, her mother, is a step closer to redemption in his daughter's eyes.
Tumblr media
Stress, confusion, and doubt wracking his brain, he vents. He confesses to be overworked. That he's built off a life's work toward project like this, the very thing his family strived toward, but he still feels torn (heh bc the bag). His pride and joy was achieved, right? Yet he feels like nothing makes sense, nothing is right anymore.
But then when he hears King never met his dad, he realizes his substitution for his kids. Have they really met him? Has he really met them? In how long? How long have they spent "never really meeting" their dad despite his proximity? His absence created a rift between his true greatest creations and---
Tumblr media
---he feels regret. So he declares a change. That he's gonna do something.
Tumblr media
He confronts Odalia, he challenges her at every notion and every opportunity. (side note, it's cute that Amity gets her red angry face from her dad). And even stands against what Odalia thinks is best for the Blights, and resolutely destroy's his life's work. Without hesitation, he destroys his entire factory. Within seconds.
Tumblr media
They're finished. Their "marriage", their "work relationship", their "co-parenting"---in every sense it's done. He stood up to her, even admitting how terrifying it was, for the sake of his daughters and son. He's done with being distracted. Done with being forced to be distracted. A new chapter, if you will. (Also this shot is so freaking cool).
Tumblr media
Here, it's minor, but him openly stating something like this, it's just a neat way of showing he's paying attention. Setting aside what he knows is at stake and all the dangers, it's a way of showing he's valuing what his daughter sees important. It's not just that he can stop all the Abomatons at the head. But that he knows they're after "Hunter". He knows Amity's intentions, and all her friends' intentions, and states it. He's proclaiming a boundary, "You're going to do this. And I am aware of it. And I'm coming with you."
Tumblr media
Knowing that in Reaching Out, the mere action of confronting Odalia outright or simply on her own stances is something Amity appreciates. So Alador makes a point to confront "Luz" outright and disregards whatever Odalia said (even though this is Hunter). As if to breach another boundary for Amity, that though he's been slow on catching up, he's willing to let Amity feel more comfortable and safe in her home. The sentiment is what matters here.
This is such a good telling of a father working out of---for the simplest of terms---a toxic relationship for the sake of his family. He recognizes his faults, the faults that led him to where he was, and the priorities of his kids. In the end, he's willing to throw it all down in one instant for their sake. Even if it's terrifying for him. Even if he doesn't know or understand everything. Even if he dedicated countless hours to build everything that brought them where they were today.
He does it for Amity, Edric, and Emira.
And that's all that matters.
(oh and I guess for the sake of the Isles because all Hell is about to break loose).

Aladarius Theory
So I planned to make a post on this last week but life - such as quitting one of my jobs 😂 - got in the way.
Anyway, I mentioned this in my thoughts regarding the episode “Them’s the Breaks, Kid” but I feel like this deserves it own post. So my theory is that I strongly suspect before Alador got together with Odalia, that he was in a relationship with Darius. This train of thought originally got going when I saw this clip of them.
Tumblr media
Like you have Alador and Darius sat together, laughing and having fun. And while Odalia sort of joins in, with how she is stood there not looking like part of the group but being sorta on the outside looking in. It kinda feels like she is inserting herself where she is not wanted.
Odalia and Alador’s marriage doesn’t particularly strike me as a happy one either. Throughout “Escaping Expulsion”, Alador seems to defer to Odalia to a ridiculous extent and only stands up to her when the Blight name is being put at threat by her attempting to go back on her word.
Which brings me to another point, as to why Alador would leave Darius for Odalia in the first place. In “Understanding Willow” it is Alador who initially is portrayed as the more villainous of the two Blight parents. He is the one who lays down the law on what is expected of a Blight to Amity and that they “only associate with the strongest of witchlings”. They lined up friends for Amity they felt were more appropriate, Boscha and Skara and pushed her towards them despite her objections. Maybe Alador’s parents had a similar discussion with him. Maybe it took time for Darius to come into his powers and so Alador’s parents decided he wasn’t a suitable partner for their son to be with and pushed him towards Odalia instead. Someone they feel is worthy of carrying the Blight name.
In “Reaching Out”, when Alador finally notices him and Odalia are forcing things on Amity she doesn’t actually want, he actually does seem to finally take pause and seem to realise what he is doing to his child. This has me wondering if this takes him back to his own childhood and the things his parents may have forced on him which he doesn’t want. I also just gave this scene a rewatch and he mentions how he likes Amity’s new hair colour because it is abomination coloured. So far Amity has been forced by Odalia to dye her hair green, so it matches the hair of Odalia, Edric and Emira. Amity dying her hair abomination coloured would make it more reminiscent of that of Darius. Maybe he is imagining in that moment what his kid could have been like if he had stayed with Darius.
Finally, Darius and Alador have a rivalry. In “Eda’s Requiem”, Darius tells Kikimora to tell “Alador that he’s a hack”. If Alador had broken up with Darius due to his parents, it may explain his coldness towards Alador. Meanwhile Alador may feel resentful of Darius, that after leaving him, he has since grown into his powers and then possibly became Head of the Abomination Coven over him.
And hey, maybe it holds no water but this is my theory and I am standing by it 😊

Also me actively cheering on Alador for freaking standing up to Odalia was definitely not on the list of things I expected to ever happen. Especially after Escaping Expulsion aired almost a year ago.

Tumblr media
August 1 - 2020
1410 - Cha Hyun-su.
Otherwise known as your unofficial, non blood-related, possibly-separated-at-birth-twin. Why? Because for a year and a half, you've been living as the official Green Home recluse. Now a second recluse has moved in right down the hall.
“Maybe we dedicate the fourteenth floor to up-and-coming college dropouts now.” You've heard that spoken under the breath of neighbours in the lobby, heard variations of it giggled between nosy ladies that have gotten too old to call it gossip. If they're resorting to gossip about two residents who have turned hikikomori, they're wasting their breath. Not much goes on in your apartment that anybody would want to gossip about.
As for Hyun-su? You're not sure. Sometimes you hear the tinny sounds of gunfire through his metal door. Other than that, nothing. So he games and eats ramyeon, and that's it? If it is, it's a little surprising. He doesn't look the type at first glance. In fact, he looks like he'd fit in with the popular guys you went to highschool with. The bulk box of instant noodles he ordered lies askew in the hallway, which you suppress the urge to kick as you walk by.
Your stomach rumbles. Wish I had the money to order ramen in bulk. Your life's savings jingles pathetically in your pocket: a few won scattered amongst pocket lint. The flickering of the lights overhead should be enough of a cue that you've fallen far in life. This apartment complex is a shithole, and aside from the odd cigarette or two you can snag from the convenience store there's really not much you get joy out of at this point. Food, sex, music, it's all the same. At least touching yourself is free. Not for much longer if I don't come up with rent next week. You absentmindedly kick a crumpled ball of paper down the hall. Unlucky as ever, your sandal goes flying with it, and tumbles right through the door and down the steps before you hear it hit the landing.
“Son a bitch,” You sigh under your breath, and with a moment of hesitation you hop along on one leg. No way are you gonna touch that filthy floor with your bare foot. Each step you take with help from the railing, and by the wall at the end of the landing lies your abandoned shoe–lying on its side like a piece of trash someone couldn't be bothered to throw away. You hop forward and wiggle your foot back into it, toes first. “Home sweet home.” You sigh sarcastically. Each step downstairs after that feels just as dooming as the last.
Tumblr media
August 8 - 2020
I think I might have to die soon.
The blue-white glow of your phone screen is all the light you've seen for days. You missed the rent payment. Your application for an extended due date was denied. You're getting kicked out at the end of the month.
Am I in hell already?
A frustrated huff escapes you. Your phone clatters as it hits the wall, but if it's broken or not, you don't care enough to get up and check. What's the point in writing out your feelings if you aren't gonna survive long enough to reflect on them?
You pull the covers higher over your head. I'm doomed. The world is over. You stick your hand out from beneath the warm covers to reach the dial of your CD player, and turn it. Click. No power. They cut off your electricity already.
You fall asleep to the sounds of silence and your own breathing under the smothering covers.
Tumblr media
August…something.
You kneel hunched over your toilet, expunging every ounce of fluid and bile from the hellish depths of your stomach. You've been puking for over an hour but there's still stuff coming out. With a loose, loud grunt you bury your knuckles into your stomach in a swift thud, forcing out one last expulsion of acid and chunks of food you probably ate ten years ago in the process. With a heave of laboured breath you sit back and slump against the cold tile wall of your bathroom.
Bad idea. If you work up the courage to try this again, you're sure as shit never using pills for it after this. You swear you could feel each one as they came back up for vengeance, the burn in your throat harkening to the amount of dry-swallowing and gagging it took to get them in there. You'd rather just jump out the fucking window at this point. Sorry to whoever has to clean up the mess.
A pass over your face only smudges the tears drooling down it. This is seriously pathetic. Your sniffles echo off the grimy tile like the chimes of a bell, they sound far-off but they hurt your ears with the vibration. Everything hurts. Your chapped lips burn and your stomach aches with every clench around empty air.
Can I just die now? Am I allowed to die? Your knees hit your chest and you sob your questions out to nobody. Nobody's here and nobody cares. If you weren't a coward, you would've jumped already. You would've jumped two weeks ago when you knew you didn't have the money. You would've-
Ching ching. The doorbell. Ching ching. Right now? Seriously?
Ching ching. Ching ching. Ching ching.
“I'm coming,” You rub your tears dry with an aggressive touch and get one last sniffle out. A single splash of cold water on your face in the sink is all you have a chance to do. Fucking landlord, probably. Probably looking for one last chance to hassle you about the money. Nobody wants to move here, it's easier to keep a tenant than find a new one–or maybe he wants to kick you out early. If that's the case, it'd be the icing on the cake for this absolutely wretched excuse for a life you've ruined.
Ching ching. Ching ching. Without bothering to check the doorbell monitor on your way by, you head for the door and reach out to brush the handle. It's only by sheer coincidence that you pause, and in a moment of clarity, bow your head to peek through the peephole before you turn the handle.
“What the shit-” The rug trips you up as your steps hustle backward, a yelp escaping you as your back hits the floor and you scramble up to sit and stare back at the door in horror. Whatever that was, it…it wasn't…
You swallow dryly. Your hands feel numb. You flick your gaze from the door to the handle and back again, watching with intent fear as whatever it is that's outside keeps ringing the doorbell until it stops. That's the moment the world itself goes quiet.
“I…hear you…”
Your heart itself ceases its erratic beat in that moment. The grin curling up at the creature's dark lips is palpable in its voice. That head of exposed, honeycomb-like brains that you spied through the peephole comes alive in the squishy, spongy sounds that emanate from the other side of your front door.
Bang.
A bulb-like protrusion explodes out from the metal, leaving behind a deep indent that will forever mark the spot where the monster tried to get in. Bang. Bang. Two more in succession show up in the squealing steel of your door. It's trying to get in. It's not going to stop until it does.
“I hear you!!” It shrieks in tandem with your terrified screams. “I hear you! I hear you!!” The cackling of its cracked voice burns holes through your palms and into your eardrums, your hands not nearly enough to block out the horrendous screeching of metal on metal. In a bid of panic, you scramble to your feet and away from the bending frame of your door. Your toenails scrabble against the carpet and nearly catch on the loose threads as you close the distance to the window. You left it open to let the stuffy air out, but now it's an escape hatch. A way out. Your palms grip cool metal as you raise yourself up to the sill and crouch on it on the soles of your feet, perched like a bird pre-flight as you look out into the mid-morning sky and back to your battered front door.
This is it. This is the last chance you'll ever have to look out into the world you're leaving behind. The sky is clear today, oranges and light pinks streaking across the scattered clouds and dissipating more as the sun creeps into the air. The breeze tastes cool and crisp on your tongue, a stark contrast to the warmth that the glow casts over your trembling body. God, I don't wanna jump after all. I just want to look at this view for just a little longer.
Fresh tears chill themselves against your skin in the breeze, but your last, wishful peace is broken by a sudden clang. Like something brittle thudding against a solid surface. The sound draws your head sideways in an instant. The wind whips your hair away to frame your distraction in perfect view, hanging halfway out of his window two doors down.
He stares at you with brown eyes, once blank, now deep with urgency and fear. Hyun-su has a broken mop in hand that he's since stopped smacking against the wall once he's got your attention. He swallows and you watch his adam's apple bob in his throat.
Sorry, I've got to die right now. Those words that you feel brimming at your lips fall silent as Hyun-su motions to you. But you just stare with glossy eyes and a pained smile, because what can he do? There's a monster breaking down your front door, and the last hinge is barely holding on. You want to mouth the words “I'm sorry”, but he suddenly disappears.
It's only a moment before you hear the banging. Like a door swinging open and shut on its squeaky hinges, the shunk shunk shunk shunk resonates through the whole complex and just about vibrates you off the sill entirely. But you cling on this time because the thuds and squealing at your door are growing softer. Soon, the noises stop altogether as you hear a screech and the heavy pattering of the creature's footsteps leading away. In just as much time as it took to decide to throw yourself off the fourteenth floor, you've been left in peace again.
It takes about a half hour before you're ready to move from your perch, to step down on the freezing floor and brace your shaking legs by leaning against the wall. You keep checking all day to see if Hyun-su reappears. You don't see a thing, save for the sunset that marks the dusk of a day you didn't think you'd ever survive.
Tumblr media
August ??? - 2020
If Hyun-su comes back, I'll sleep with him. On my life. Or I'll kill him. I haven't decided, honestly.
Your phone's battery is almost dead, and the screw that holds the hinge is so loose it's practically flopping all over the place. It's gone from a flip phone to a flop phone, realistically. Without the internet or cell service, all it's good for is a brick to hold your thoughts inside. Maybe it'll be all that's left of you once you're gone.
Is Hyun-su dead? That thought has been cycling round your head like it's circling a drain for about a day. The more you think about it, the more sure you are that he must've led the monster away to try and draw it from your door. The brain monster hasn't come back since, but neither has Hyun-su. You've tried everything from calling him to aiming a mirror out your window to get a glimpse into his apartment, but nothing. And if you knock on his door and he's not there, what will you do?
You've laid in bed awake all night, and with your stomach growling painfully you sit with your back against the mangled front door and wait. Your eyes shut at the tenth hour of the morning. Come back, Hyun-su. Please come back. Why'd you save me just to leave me alone again? You better not have died for me. The thoughts give you distraction for a while, as long as a while could feasibly last in these circumstances…
Shu-unk.
What the fucking hell was that?
Shunk. Shunk. Shunk.
You blink awake and stagger up to your feet in a rushed scramble. In the distance, just barely audible, is a soft voice echoing off the walls of the empty corridor.
“1412?” You're tempted to press your ear to the door to hear it closer, but the myriad of dents and fist-sized creases left protruding from it don't exactly leave a lot of space for you to listen. “1412?” The sound that had startled you awake, you now realize, is the sound of doors quietly being opened and closed. You're tempted to disbelieve, but the low coolness of that voice desperately makes you want to believe it's Hyun-su. And as terrified as you are of guessing wrong and paying your life's price for it, your fingers shakily clasp the door handle and it turns with a click. The squeals of metal make way for harsh scraping as the ill-fitting door fights the pressure of your body weight as you put everything you have into forcing it open.
It passes the threshold and swings open. You stagger into the corridor and catch yourself on the door frame, your fingers scraping dented steel from the pounding it took at the hands of that monster.
It is. It's him. That soft jawline and those big, brown eyes, the mane of fluffy hair and his unkempt clothes splattered with blood. He stands there lean and awkward in the hallway, lanky and ruffled and looking like he's been through a good bit of hell. His mop handle's got an upgrade but you don't care, really. You just feel a well of happiness surge up inside you that you figured had completely disappeared by now.
Hyun-su hurries up to you. When he gets close, he falters, however. His expression dims as he suddenly seems unsure of himself, and fidgets with the newly-crafted spear that suddenly seems too heavy in his hands.
“Are you okay?” He pants. “The monster-”
“You led it away.”
“Yeah.” He nods. “But you're okay, right?”
“Mh.” Your ears burn a little. This is my saviour, huh? So soft-spoken and meek? “Didn't get me at all. Thank you.”
He nods back, his scruffy locks forming a curtail around his neck as he does so. An awkward silence blankets the empty space. It's broken, however, by a deep gurgling in the pit of your stomach.
“Are you hungry?”
You lay a hand over your stomach as if your touch is going to make it stop rumbling. It's pretty humbling, to say the least–you hadn't realized how weak you'd become on two days without food. Hyun-su doesn't wait for an answer; he reaches into his pocket and pulls out something crinkly and wrapped in foil. It's still warm when he places it in your palm, yet his fingertips carry a chill as they graze your skin in the process.
“You should eat. We need to get going.”
“Where?” Hyun-su points down the corridor, and despite his urging you slip the candy bar into your pocket while you peek out where he's indicating. The door is busted-up and boasts a reinforced exterior from the many bumps and scrapes of a wheelchair coming in and out. You know it well. “1408? Where Mr. Han lives?”
He nods. “There's kids there, and some other people. I, um…I was going to come earlier, but they-”
“I get it.” For the first time in a long time, you crack a smile. “Had to go play hero again, huh?” If he was willing to drive away a monster from a stranger's door by using himself as bait, you can only imagine what he must have gone through to save some poor kids in peril.
“N-No, I-”
“You're a good guy.” You pat him on the chest. “I don't know why a good guy like you came to live in a place like Green Home, but I'm glad you're here.” Hyun-su looks down on you with a raised brow, but his surprise melts slowly into gratitude as he adjusts to your playful jabs. There's not many other ways for you to cope in an absolutely bizarre situation as this.
“...I'm glad, too.”
“Yeah?”
Hyun-su tilts his head down. He's a little hesitant on meeting your eyes, even though you owe him so much. “I'm…glad you didn't jump.”
“Me too.” The sentiment slips out of you so easily. When did that happen? Wanting to live? “I'd be a pretty shitty damsel if I threw away my life after you saved it.”
In the wake of another, now less-awkward silence, you stroll ahead of him towards Mr. Han's apartment. You only glance over your shoulder to make sure he's following, and to quietly reassure yourself that he hasn't disappeared again. When you do, that's when he hustles along to catch up, the smallest of smiles peaking his lips.
“If..”
You turn to look at him beside you. You can't help but pay him your full attention when he speaks–he does it so little, and he's so quiet, you fear you might miss what he says.
“If you feel like you want to jump again..” He extends his hand out to you. Despite the callouses on his long, lithe fingers, his palm looks soft and even…inviting, in some strangely enticing way. “..You can hold my hand. I'll keep you from falling.”
“Oh.” Your feet halt in their tracks. The air feels a bit heavier than it did before–but only in the space that separates you from Hyun-su. His hand lingers there, and beneath the cuff of his sweater's sleeve you spot for the first time those scars. Cuts, slashes, deep and intentional down the length of his tanned skin. Intersecting lines that point towards a past of hurt and harm.
So you and I are the same. Have you now, finally, come to that thought that Hyun-su had when he saw you ready to jump out your window?
“...Yeah.”
You place your palm delicately over his. Your fingers slide together like ivy on a window. They clasp into each other, squeezing like the grip of a latch on a closed door. And you feel at peace for real this time, because from this moment on you won't ever get near a ledge again–not to take a step off, at least. But maybe to see another sunset if you manage to survive that long. A smile perks at your mouth at the thought. God, I hope so.
“Let's hang in there together. Promise.” You squeeze his hand, and he squeezes yours back. The two of you make your way towards the apartment. And when this door opens, it'll close behind you for good.

Compare/Contrast of Webby Vanderquack and Lena Sabrewing And Luz Noceda and Amity Blight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. Here I’ll be doing a compare/contrast between Webby Vanderquack and Lena Sabrewing from the DuckTales (2017) TV series and Luz Noceda and Amity Blight from The Owl House TV series. It occurred to me that these 2 duos have quite a bit in common but are also a bit different. Also, Spoiler Alert for the DuckTales (2017) TV series and The Owl House TV series. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both members of both duos used to be on different sides before growing to love each other. As shown in the episode ‘The Beagle Boy Breakout!’, Lena used to work for her aunt Magica De Spell to bring about the end of the McDuck family before, as shown in the episode ‘The Other Bin Of Scrooge McDuck!’, she really grew to love Webby and tried to tell Scrooge about Magica before she took control of her body. And, as shown in the episode ‘I Was A Teenage Abomination’, Amity used to be a bully that Luz helped Willow stand up to before, as shown in the episode ‘Lost In Language’, Luz and Amity teamed up against a monster and grew to love each other. Another similarity between them here is that they used to be on different sides because of an abusive relative. As shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 1: The Night Of De Spell!’, Lena was a living shadow created and controlled by her aunt Magica to bring about the end of Scrooge McDuck and the McDuck family. As shown in the episode ‘Understanding Willow’, Amity was pressured into turning her back on Willow years ago by her mother and father. The difference between them here is whether or not Webby and Luz knew they were on different sides from the start. As shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, Webby didn’t know Lena used to work for Magica before finding out later on whereas, as shown in the episode ‘I Was A Teenage Abomination’, Luz knew Amity used to be a bully right from the start. Another similarity between them is that both duos seemed to like each other as more than just friends. After all, in the case of Webby and Lena, they seemed to admire every little thing about each other as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’ where Webby seemed to really admire the fact that Lena wrote a poem and, as shown in the episode ‘Friendship Hates Magic!’ where Lena seemed to really admire how Webby used her library card. And, in the case of Luz and Amity, as shown in the episode ‘Escaping Expulsion’, they blushed as they were standing back-to-back. The difference between them here is whether or not it was confirmed that they were romantically in love. As shown throughout the DuckTales (2017) TV series, it wasn’t exactly confirmed whether Webby and Lena are in love or not. And, as shown in the episode ‘Knock, Knock, Knockin’ On Hoody’s Door’, it was confirmed that Luz and Amity are in love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have a member who is very optimistic and cheerful. For Webby and Lena, there’s Webby who, as shown in the episode ‘Daytrip Of Doom!’, was incredibly optimistic when it came to hanging out with Huey, Dewey and Louie. And for Luz and Amity, there’s Luz who, as shown in the episode ‘Witches Before Wizards’, Luz was very optimistic and cheerful when it came to being a witch’s apprentice. Also, another similarity between them there is that their optimism paid off in the end when it came to Lena and Amity. As shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, Webby’s faith in her relationship with Lena caused magic to flow through her Friendship Bracelet that brought Lena back to help fight Magica. And, as shown in the episode ‘Understanding Willow’, Luz’s faith in Amity paid off in the end when Amity befriended Willow again and stopped bullying her. The difference between them is how Webby and Luz respond to authority. Webby seemed used to obeying authority figures as shown in the episode ‘Escape To/From Atlantas!’ where she was baffled when Louie lied to his uncle Donald about where he is whereas Luz seems to rebels against authority as shown in the episode ‘A Lying Witch And A Warden’ where she brought snakes to school. Furthermore, their mentors also shared the same sentiment about authority. As shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, Webby’s grandma Bentina Beakley was a spy who followed protocol. And, as shown in the episode ‘Something Ventured Someone Framed’, Luz’s mentor Edalyn Clawthorne was a rebel who disregards rules.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have a member who was quite cynical and pessimistic. For Webby and Lena, there’s Lena who, as shown in the episode ‘The Beagle Boy Breakout!’, Lena was cynical and pessimistic to the point that she doubted Huey, Dewey and Louie cared about Webby. And, as shown in the episode ‘Lost In Language’, Amity was cynical and pessimistic to the point that she used to think that interacting with Luz would somehow get her in trouble. Also, another similarity between them is that both Lena and Amity had an abusive relative who stood between them and Webby and Luz and who they later stood up to. As shown in the episode ‘Jaw$!’, Lena’s aunt Magica threatened her into going against Webby but, as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, Lena later stood up to her and helped the McDuck family take her down. And, as shown in the episode ‘Escaping Expulsion’, Amity was threatened by her mother Odalia into letting Luz, Willow and Gus get expelled from Hexside before later standing up to her and helping Luz, Willow and Gus get accepted back into Hexside. The difference between them is, just like with Webby and Luz, how Lena and Amity respond to authority. Lena doesn’t seem to respect authority figures as shown in the episode ‘Terror Of The Terra-firmians!’ where she argued with Beakley and wanted to go on an adventure whereas Amity seemed to be obsessed with the rules as shown in the episode ‘For The Future’ where Amity said that she kept trying to organize a student council but Principal Bump thought that she was too obsessed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both duos have one member who is a normal being and the other member who is a supernatural being. As shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War! Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, Webby is a normal being while Lena is a living shadow. And, as shown in the episode ‘I Was A Teenage Abomination’, Luz is a normal being while Amity is a witch. The difference between them here is what kind of supernatural being Lena and Amity are. As I already pointed out, Lena is a living shadow whereas Amity is a witch.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.

Amity's Fate (Escaping Expulsion)
Found family stories are fun, aren't they? They have become a dime a dozen in recent years, and I think that that's a good thing.
Family comes in varying forms, and The Owl House explores that as a core tenet. Lilith is surrounded by the theme. Belos and The Golden Guard feature it as a secondary characteristic. Luz can't escape the theme. Even Kikimora's arc deals with it.
Odalia is the main antagonist for this idea. It's her entire deal. And the way in which she acts as that familial final boss is fascinating to me.
Let me explain.
SPOILERS AHEAD (The Owl House, Rise of the Guardians, One Piece, Critical Role: Campaign 1)
Tumblr media
What makes someone "important"?
In fiction, this is rather easy to tell. A character is important if they have a significant effect on the plot, and this is usually rewarded with time in the spotlight. Most often, the most important character in the plot is the one the reader will see the most. Obviously, there are exceptions, but this is a general rule.
But in terms of real life, what exactly is it that makes someone important? And how do you define "important"?
Tumblr media
You could argue that inventors hold this title, or entrepreneurs, or politicians, as they define the overarching structure of your world. But I would say that my friends and family have more of an influence on my personal daily life. They are the ones who have made me into who I am today.
Maybe the most important person to you is your significant other, or a teacher, or someone random on a bus who accidentally reshaped your entire worldview six years ago.
Tumblr media
Importance of plot and importance in reality are two different things, and my take on Odalia is a weird twist on that. Odalia is important to the plot because she is completely unimportant to Amity.
The arcs surrounding Odalia, those of her children and husband, revolve around them realising that they have better parts of their lives than her. Amity, for example, spends a decent chunk of the series learning that she doesn't need Odalia in her life and that Luz and co. are a much bigger influence on her than her mother's teachings.
Essentially, Odalia is only important because people think she is. Once they realise, she fades from relevance. I think that's a really cool writing decision.
Tumblr media
When Odalia and Alastor were introduced, back in Understanding Willow, the choice was made to obscure their character designs to silhouettes because who these people were wasn't important, and the episode focused on what they had done.
But now, the audience is treated to their full appearances, and I'd like to take that apart.
Tumblr media
Alastor is a mess. He hasn't been bothered to get into formal attire for a business meeting, either because he doesn't own a suit or because he doesn't care. Judging by the fact he lives in a mansion, I am inclined to believe the latter. He is covered in stains from his research and wears a set of goggles to lean into the professorial atmosphere. Combine that with the unkempt hair and his design is drawing heavy inspiration from Victor Frankenstein, something I will come back to in detail in a later post.
Odalia is Amity's final evolution. Everything about her is Amity taken to the extreme. She has the same nail polish, earrings (although her earrings change between shots), and hair colour, but the hair is more tidy. Her outfit is also more regal and more purple. She is what Amity will become; a path laid out for her. It is almost as if she has sculpted Amity in her image.
Odalia's design also reminds me a lot of Mrs Tweedy from Chicken Run for reasons I cannot articulate.
Tumblr media
Upon looking at Amity and her parents, it is obvious that Amity and her mother are related, but Alador seems like the odd one out, right? Except for two things.
Amity's hair is her means of expression in the story. When she dyes it different colours, it is an outward manifestation of her internal development. When it is left to its own devices, she has naturally brownish red hair, similar but not exactly the same as Alador.
Tumblr media
Amity is her own person who bears a ton of similarity to her father figure. But someone, most likely herself at the behest of Odalia, has made a concerted effort to cover that up.
The other element of Amity's design that links to her father's is something nobody can cover up. Amity has her father's eyes.
Tumblr media
Rise of the Guardians is an egregiously underrated film that I love. It deals purpose and finding joy, but its pivotal scene is relevant to the discussion of Amity and Alador.
"You have big eyes." "Yes! Big eyes, very big, because they are full of wonder That is my centre. It is what I was born with: eyes that have always seen the wonder in everything! Eyes that see lights in the trees, and magic in the air - this wonder is what I put into the world!... It is my centre. What is yours?"
Tumblr media
Santa Claus in Rise of The Guardians is a character who relies imagination and creativity, and there is a difference in the film between born gifts and who a person chooses to be. Santa was born seeing the world differently, and he used that to create and preserve that imagination in others.
Amity and Alador both see the world in the same way. They both look at the world and see what could be. They are intelligent, but less in the restrictive, linear ideal of "being a good student", they are more inventors, and Odalia has taken that intelligence and confined it.
That, is where the final element of Odalia and Alador's character designs comes into play, their expressions.
Tumblr media
Alador looks tired all of the time. He isn't happy at all in this episode, and he only smiles twice. His entire demeanor tells you that he doesn't want to be wherever he is.
Odalia, however, alternates between arrogant superiority and scheming gremlin, and that reveals her personality as much as her actions. Odalia believes herself superior to others and is having fun with that confidence.
Tumblr media
Amity is presented with both of these parental figures as options for her to develop into. The series is offering a good and a bad option, but then it does something clever and takes another rout. Amity becomes her own person, informed by her father, but unique in her own way.
To my point of Odalia's practical irrelevance, it's notable that all of Odalia's influence on her daughter is impermanent. It's her clothing, hairstyle, and expression, all of which Amity drops like a stone when she starts to achieve her autonomy.
Speaking of autonomy, this episode actually has stuff happening in it.
Tumblr media
Starting with a side note. Gus barely reacts to the threat of execution and looks more horrified by being expelled. Everyone else in this scene looks and sounds equally upset by both, with the exception of Amity's relief at the second option. But Gus doesn't make a noise and just looks surprised by incoming death, as if it's a class he doesn't particularly want to go to, but has no choice in the matter. Does that concern anyone else?
Tumblr media
I want to point out that Amity doesn't ever look afraid of her mother. She reacts to the execution gaff similarly to everyone except Gus, but to everything else, she just looks sad. This isn't a physically abusive relationship, but an emotionally abusive one. Amity spends the entirety of this episode feeling trapped.
Tumblr media
"Luz, was it? Please, this isn't personal. I actually appreciate your tenacity. We're just trying to teach our daughter a valuable lesson in business."
Once again, this is the end result that Odalia has set out for Amity, complete uncaring ambition.
Now, I am not skilled in the art of business, I know that one line from A Muppets Christmas Carrol and that's about it. But I think Luz's response to Odalia is pretty neat.
"How does this teach anything? We're still gonna be friends with her. I'm calling applesauce on this business baloney!"
I do have to thank the writers of The Owl House for making Luz's dialect so incomprehensibly Luz, because it makes navigating the transcript (link) so much easier.
Tumblr media
Anyway, as Luz points out, Odalia is just petty here. She is seeking revenge against her daughter for messing up her business promotion and is leveraging her unrivaled power to do so. She's not as uncaring as she thinks, and to her credit, she realises this in the moment.
But, Odalia is still cruel and entitled, being self aware doesn't diminish her villainy, and so she offers Amity' position to Luz. She has a mould, and she doesn't particularly care who fills it, just that it is filled. Odalia is another villain in this series who represents that theme of constraint.
Tumblr media
Luz's dialect is actually important in this scene, because it positions her as a thematic opposite to Odalia. Luz doesn't care about the rules of "polite conversation" and will say whatever nonsense comes to her head if it gets the point across. Luz is free in her verbal expression, and Odalia restricts that of her family to barely a word.
However, Luz doesn't confront Odalia on a thematic level. The themes of the story are expressed through Luz's sheer presence, but in this situation, she isn't actively trying to prove the superiority of her worldview. Instead, she applies more of a Monkey D. Luffy approach.
Tumblr media
For those who haven't read One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy (Third from the left) is a character who wants to be the freest man in the world. His antagonist is the World Government, who is restrictive and oppressive, and Luffy exists to oppose abuse of authority and injustice.
Luffy doesn't actively do this. He doesn't really care about the theming of his own story, it just happens around him. Repeatedly in the series, most notably in Enies Lobby and Arlong Park, Luffy declares comes into conflict with villainous powers who thematically oppose him. But, he doesn't confront them because of that theme, but because they hurt his friends.
Tumblr media
Luz does the same thing across The Owl House, taking on Belos and Lilith in season one because she doesn't like how they treat Eda, and taking on Odalia here because she doesn't like how she treats Amity.
If you look closely, she actually does it twice in this very episode.
"Luz, you don't have to do that." "Yes, I do. Willow and Gus don't deserve this."
Luz gives in and takes up Odalia's offer to protect her friends, not because Odalia is nebulously villainous.
Tumblr media
Back to Amity, she doesn't get as many actual lines in this episode as usual, but she is very much present in every scene she shows up in. From the silence, to the expressions, to the frustrated growling at every hinderance. Her worlds are colliding, and she can't keep everything under control.
This hits a breaking point with the confrontation.
Tumblr media
"No, you're gonna listen to me for once. Luz, Willow and Gus are my friends! They're nice to each other, they listen to each other. They make me think about the kind of person I really want to be!"
Let's talk about Taryon Darrington.
Tumblr media
Critical Role is a D&D live play that is currently in its third campaign. Halfway through the first campaign, the audience and players were introduced to the character of Taryon Darington, an artificer and human disaster in the most positive of ways.
I genuinely love Taryon, and have an entire post in the works dedicated to him and his significance for TTRPG culture as a whole, so I won't dwell too much here. Suffice to say this: Taryon's parental situation is similar to Amity's, in that his father viewed all of the Darington estate as means to an end, without the care and affection necessary to actually raise a family. When Taryon confronted him, he gave a speech remarkably similar to Amity's in Escaping Expulsion.
"In my year of travel, I didn't just dilly-dally around the world having fun. I was learning about the world and about life and about family. I was learning from these fine people what it means to really be a family, and care about each other. I learned from Grog and Vax what it means to be a man, and to be a father. I learned from Pike what it means to be a caring mother. I learned from Keyleth what a real sister is like, one who loves you and cares for you. I learned from Vex what a best friend is like. These are things you never gave us, growing up. I even learned from Percival, the type of man I would want to marry one day."
This is a speech of separation. It says officially that Howaardt (Taryon's father) has no bearing on his actions, and that Taryon will go about his life without a care for the foolishness of his father's actions. It is claiming autonomy, and it is pointing out that Howaardt was only important to Taryon because he told him so, in reality, the connection was minimal.
Tumblr media
Amity's little speech is the same. She is proclaiming that she doesn't need Odalia's fake affection and conditional acceptance. She wants to be around her friends, as they make her into a better person. Amity is more influenced by the actions of those she surrounds herself with than her mother.
Most of all, Amity is influenced by Luz and the example she sets. Light, do not faulter.
That's some good found family storytelling, right there.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Odalia and Amity's story will continue until the end of the series, but it really ends with season two's penultimate episode, which I will get to.
I wanted to do a whole thing on how purple is associated with wealth because of sea snails (its more complicated than that), but I couldn't figure out a way of putting it in the post and relating it to the abominations and Amity's hair dye later on in the series.
I didn't talk about Eda and Lilith discovering more nuanced glyph magic, and that's because... I don't like the writing in those scenes. This episode is really good overall, but the dialogue in Lilith and Eda's scenes doesn't sit right with me, it feels too simple, like it's trying too hard to be turned into memes. But that's just my opinion.
Next week, I am looking at Echoes of the Past, so stick around if that interests you.

a long rambly discussion on alador and odalia
a small warning before i begin i will be briefly mentioning emotional abuse and neglect carried out by the blight parents. it’s nothing worse than what’s portrayed in the actual show, but just a warning if you don’t want to read that :)
also spoiler warning for clouds in the horizon and all of season 2 of toh
theorizing that odalia and alador only married for financial gain, and not for love. something really interesting that i noticed that episode is that they were referring to each other as if they were financial partners, and not a married couple. part of this could be that they’ve just completely fallen out of love, but i’d think it would be really possible that they were never in love. from the moment they were introduced, they never seemed very couple-y. and given odalia’s obsession for wealth and power, i wouldn’t be surprised if she manipulated alador into marrying her.
i mean, they are really solid business partners. she doesn’t have the means to invent things, but she is a ruthless saleswoman. and alador doesn’t seem to be as motivated or skilled in marketing, but he’s extremely smart and skilled as an inventor. given odalia’s oracle powers i really wouldn’t be surprised if she had mind controlled or manipulated or something’ed alador so she could gain the financial benefits that could come from his inventions.
it’s also so fascinating how we see alador genuinely care for his kids, and we also see that his kids (amity at least) trust him to a certain degree. this doesn’t excuse or cancel out the emotional neglect he carried out for so long, or how he aided odalia’s abuse and refused to step in and intervene until the consequence was literally murder (escaping expulsion). this behavior is never excusable. however comma, it’s interesting seeing his character arch, and seeing how he’s growing and trying to be a better father. and he’s doing that through his actions, not his words. freeing the gang from odalia’s force field prison thing. shutting off his abominations. offering to pilot a coven ship to help save (who they then thought was hunter). making an effort to make (who they then thought was luz) to feel welcomed by him, + therefore amity’s family, after odalia was just. being a total and complete bitch.
speaking of odalia, it’s really fascinating how her character arc completely juxtaposes alador’s. while over season two, we’ve seen small moments of alador growing, and clearly showing regret over his actions, or moments of compassion or realization in regards to his children, we see none of that for odalia. we actually see her become LESS CARING THAN SHE ALREADY WAS. for example, in reaching out, upon learning that amity was dating luz, this is a moment of realization for alador. he’s surprised, but he’s surprised because this makes him realize how little he’s actually been there for his children. and he responds respectfully. he doesn’t alienate luz from the family because she’s wanted or a human. and upon realizing how little he’s actually spent with his children, he attempts to reconcile with amity. and although she doesn’t necessarily forgive him, she also shows that she’s beginning to trust him, because his actions speak volumes.
additionally, while alador was trying to force amity to go to coven try outs that entire time, rather than continuing to force her, he actually makes the effort to why she doesn’t want to. he actually TRIES to understand.
odalia, in comparison. we have never seen her even attempt to make a connection or understanding with amity or the twins. she either forces things on them, or accuses them of things and refuses to hear them out. upon capturing everyone, odalia incessantly accuses amity, placing her own perception of amity’s actions onto amity. she never asks amity any questions, or if she does it’s in the way that people ask questions accusatorily, where they don’t actually want an answer. when amity does try to explain herself, odalia shuts her down and doesn’t take her seriously. upon odalia learning that amity is dating luz, she doesn’t stop to think about how her daughter is. you know. growing up and going for life. and odalia hasn’t stopped to be there for any of it. she hasn’t made time for her children. she doesn’t realize how shitty this is of her, like alador did. instead she’s just seething with rage because luz is wanted. i would say also because luz is a human, which may have been true earlier in the series, but i think luz has more than proved herself to everyone on the boiling isles just how strong she is. so i don’t think luz being a human is much of an issue for odalia at that point. just, you know, that she’s “wanted” and odalia probably perceives her of being a bad influence on amity.
additionally, it’s fascinating to me how odalia responds with “we’ll get you another girlfriend.” This is coming from a complete disregard for amity’s emotions. amity isn’t dating luz just because amity wants a girlfriend. amity isn’t dating luz to act out or rebel. amity is dating luz because amity loves luz, and cares about luz. we’ve seen throughout the show how much development they’ve gone through and also how much work they’ve both put into their relationship, and how much they both care about each other. amity wouldn’t want another girlfriend if something happened to luz.
this shows the complete disregard that odalia has for amity’s emotions. she learned something really significant about her daughter. her daughter has a girlfriend. her daughter is growing up. and while alador had this moment of realization that he hadn’t been there for his children. and this prompted him to make an effort to try to reconcile with amity, and he asks her questions and supports her, odalia never does this.
offering to find amity another girlfriend also shows that odalia does not view relationships as something one does for love. she views relationships as something that one does for some sort of gain. it’s also fascinating how it seems her primary issue with luz is her reputation. luz is strong, and a powerful witch at this point in the show, and she’s demonstrated that she’s a powerful witch to pretty much everyone. but odalia seems completely disgusted by the fact that luz is on a wanted list. luz also does not come from a “respectable” position, seeing as luz is associated with eda. It can be presumed that odalia holds very little respect for eda, as eda never joined a coven, and despite being extremely powerful and skilled before her magic got taken away, she never used that skill and power to gain herself a position of power. she lives in a small house in the woods that very few people can enter due to a scary owl. we saw in season 1 just how powerful she is with her magic. from odalia’s perspective (even though we know this is not true, due to how her curse effected her), eda could have very easily gained some sort of social status in the boiling isles (other than being Eda the Owl Lady, of course).
but eda sells goods at (possibly?) illegal markets. she is secluded. she has the talents that she could very much make a name for herself, especially if she joined a coven (again, from odalia’s perspective). eda recognizes the coven systems are oppressive. additionally, the potions eda NEEDS to help her curse are financially inaccessible, which causes eda to need to sell and scam and steal, in order to afford the healthcare and medication the potions that she needs in order to help her mental health her curse. odalia doesn’t know this. if she did she probably wouldn’t care, but still.
odalia sees eda as someone who chooses not to have power, even though she should. and it is true that eda seems to not personally care about her social reputation, besides being proud of how formidable she is perceived. i don’t think it needs to be said how much this goes against odalia’s personal beliefs. and due to the fact that luz is eda’s kid, odalia associates her beliefs of eda with luz as well. which again, isn’t completely wrong, luz does not seem to necessarily care too much about social status. while a major part of her arc is feeling alienated in the human world because she doesn’t fit in, she never tries to force herself to change in order to fit in. in being in the boiling isles, she has major insecurities about not fitting in. and the boiling isles is a place where, inherently, she does not fit in. she’s a human. magic does not come naturally to her. however, she finds people who she does fit in with, and she fits in with them by being herself. she doesn’t care if she’s popular or of high social status at school. she finds community and friends and people who care about her, something she never really seemed to have in the human world. her insecurities still exist, but it’s not about finding greater social status, it’s her worrying about acceptance from other people.
odalia could not care less about finding community and friends and acceptance. she is someone who very clearly only thinks about status. and the fact that a) luz does not care about status and b) does not necessarily have high social status makes odalia think luz is an unfit girlfriend for amity.
it’s also evident in this exchange just how controlling odalia is. before this episode we saw a lot of odalia being controlling in smaller but still really weird awful ways. controlling her children’s hair color. wanting her children to be perfect. forcing her children to help out with selling the abomitons. having a necklace that allows her to speak telepathically with other’s wearing the necklace. all of this is controlling, but only preludes all the things we learned about her in this episode. she thinks she could just choose who amity’s girlfriend would be. it’s clear she has some form of influence over alador. she does things that alador should have a say in without consulting him. she overworks alador, and doesn’t think twice or care about it. he “hasn’t had a weekend off in five years.” which is insane i’m not even gonna get into the really interesting dynamics of her as a business person, a boss, upper management, etc, and the way that she clearly abuses workers and those she deems beneath her. (her beratement of kikimora only once kikimora is demoted to a position “lower” than odalia’s. her overworking of alador. her firing workers with seemingly little warning, which likely put these workers in financially unideal or even dangerous/risky situations. i don’t know what kind of welfare support the boiling isles offers to the unemployed. presumably not really any. wait i’m actually really curious about this now. i won’t get into that but maybe in the future).
the owl house has a lot of commentary on capitalism, or at least abuses that occur under a capitalistic system. i won’t get into that cos this post is already way too long, but it!! is!! fascinating!!
i also have lost my train of thought so i will not continue i can’t remember how i was going to conclude this post but uh you get what i mean.

→ Study 𝐗𝐈𝐕: Contextualization of the forbidden knowledge’s sin.
In the recent Sumeru story updates, we’ve been exposed to this so-called sin for being in the possession of forbidden knowledge and what it causes to Teyvat. However, Sumeru isn’t the one place that introduced us to this concept and I find easy to forget lore content from past story updates for multiple reasons (all of them which are completely understandable, it happens to me too). So in this post, I’m going to start from the top as to what is this forbidden knowledge exactly, a contextualization of the moments when this topic is addressed and lastly, a critical reflection as to why it’s considered forbidden. Warning to those who don’t pursue leak contents that this post will contain some, albeit at the very end and under the spoiler mark!
We all know that forbidden knowledge is an abstract term that can encompass a lot if we have a look at what is commonly known and what is not so that even divine entities such as the Archons are hesitant to talk about or outright reject wanting to talk about this, which makes it all mysterious and hard to understand.
So what is this forbidden knowledge?
For this, let’s rewind to the first time this was mentioned and what happened. Enkanomiya used to be a large mass of land said to unify various civilizations rather than putting them apart as it happens in the present until The Second Who Came and Phanes with his Shining Shades clashed and, as a result, Enkanomiya fell into the abyss. Its people wanted to return to the surface, but for reasons they couldn’t understand nor know the path was closed to them and they had to coexist with Vishaps (which previously were kicked by Phanes upon his arrival to the world in order for him to reshape it and make it hospitable for his following creation: humans) in the dark. Thanks to Istaroth’s intervention in her guidance to show Aberaku the way to bring light, Helios was created. After that, someone traveled far and wide until coming across Orobashi, who was asked to be their deity and which he accepted. However, he would commit a sin not by being in touch with these people alone, but for reading about what the world used to be like before the Archon War (from which he escaped) waged.
Furthermore, the Enkanomiya people had a chance to return on the surface as they wished on one condition: to bury the knowledge they have from the times before Helios was created and only then Orobashi would be commanded by the heavens to bring them up to the surface. Which they did. The new people who would form the new Watatsumi Island wouldn’t know about those times, but Orobashi did and that would make him a loose end to be dealt with. Which he, too, was dealt with by being commanded to return to the Archon War and ultimately, be slain by Raiden Ei.
In this case specifically, «forbidden knowledge» refers to the contents narrated in the book Before Sun and Moon which mainly talks about Phanes’ arrival to this world, the dethronement of the 7 Dragon Kings and the expulsion of the Vishaps, the recreation of the world, the creation of humans and his and his Shining Shades’ (also known as the Saints) deeds up to The Second Who Came’s arrival with what little followed after.
Now, let’s jump straight to Sumeru. Albeit it seems like the «forbidden knowledge» of this nation is for different reasons and thus it could be something different altogether, there are reasons to believe that it is intrinsically tied. I’ll return to this later to explain why.
At plain sight, what we know is that Al-Ahmar (the Scarlet King) descended from the sky with some knowledge and thanks to it, he was able to build all the infrastructures we see: from pyramids to a whole package of an underground civilization with its own technology. So nothing too bad here except for maybe this correlation with Khaenri’ah and its machinery who was nuked, maybe this civilization had something fishy about it and little more. What one of the 3.1 cinematic cutscenes added into the mix is that in bringing this knowledge, he was also the reason why Eleazar was born and why it brought so much desolation to people both in the past and in the present despite his sacrifice and Rhukkadevata’s help to kind of calm this angry malady. One would think that this would be it, but it is not if we consider the fact that the Scarlet King comes from an era that preludes the three moons’ fall:
Later, time sundered the contract between day and night, destroying the ancient oath. The gentle moonlight sank into the quicksand. The sun shrouded all things in its fearsome gaze.
                                                                                       —Gilded Dreams: Honeyed Final Feast.
And last but not least, we have a new pal of Khaenri’ahn creation whose description sounds oddly reminiscent of a specific era and, once again, it encompasses directly the meaning of «forbidden knowledge»:
This dragon-shaped combat machine is a being that inspires fear, much like the lord who once ruled these vast lands. It is said that the now-destroyed realm once sought forbidden knowledge and attempted to create perpetual-motion machines that could match or even surpass primordial lifeforms. This mysterious, tireless mechanical monstrosity seems to be proof that they did indeed reach heights that mortals should never have attained.
                                                                                                                       —Aeonblight Drake.
As for what these primordial lifeforms are exactly, we have another pal of the same family of automatons as the Aeonblight Drake that has the answer for us:
It mimics the appearance of the beings known as Vishaps, with some functional enhancements. Such machines have an even greater ability to “absorb”— or perhaps the right word is “counteract”— elemental powers than the vishaps.
                                                                                                                                  —Ruin Drake.
Although there is still more content that can fit in this criteria of forbidden knowledge (this based on Celestia’s deeds in destroying past civilizations that don’t limit to Khaenri’ah alone, but civilizations of even further back in time such as the underground palace of the Chasm or Tsurumi Island to name a couple of examples), I’ll be wrapping this up here to some thoughts on where this «forbidden knowledge» is headed at, which so far seems to be addressed at anything that happened before the Second Who Came’s arrival. This includes may or may not include the existence alone of beings that were in Teyvat before them, including those that were born at a later time but still hold some semblance of knowledge belonging to that era. Or as Pierro calls it, should we name it Old World.
Now, under cut a small thing related to leak contents:
The heavenly principles have been silent for many years, but the Gnoses are symbols of their control over Teyvat and all the laws... Will the destruction of a Gnosis attract the attention of the heavenly principles?

You are me in the new samsara. It's a kind of knowledge that doesn't belong to this world, and a form of “truth” that can't be understood.
                                                                                                                             —Rhukkadevata.
Makes one wonder if one of the potential reasons why Rhukkadevata had to die and she must be forgotten because her existence alone implies that she herself is a «forbidden knowledge», but also because she has knowledge that “doesn’t belong to this world” aka the world that is being currently ruled by Celestia. As for Nahida’s quote, I’ll make a small new post with a discovery of mine in regards of the “laws”.

What better way to kick off fall with a new spin on the Ten/Malcolm ship that’s monster-based! :D
Warning: massive spoilers for the new Ten audio drama with past companions, plant-based body horror mentioned
On with the fic!
--
It could have been by the skin of what was once his teeth, or by simply a miracle, but he had found himself somewhere else.
While he was more grounded in nature now, time was not something he could escape from so easily. The expulsion from his TARDIS by the effects of the changeling that had once been Leela had seemed to not completely destroyed him, but sent him somewhere new, somewhere further in time.
He was not in England, not at the village, in the forest where he had control.
He was in the Welsh region, on an island, in the early 20th century. He was far from his TARDIS, from the forest, so far from his own reality, but still, he felt life here.
Life that wasn’t natural like the forest had been before he implanted himself into it, used it to feed.
It was similar though, it fed too, in a way that nature shouldn’t naturally on this planet. He touched the ground, he could feel it, a pulse, life. He could sense awareness as well, that he was known.
He had a sense of where he was, could it really be here?
No.
He left.
And this was different from the one from his reality, yet so very, very much the same, so very much like his own.
And then again, he always had a terrible habit of returning to places he had once been, timelines and realities be damned.
He reached up, touching at his face, coated in old vines, branches, and snapped them off, away. It would be most wise to look his best if there was a chance of meeting Him again. He wouldn’t be his exactly, but then again He’d still be his no matter what universe, timeline.
He knew this, he sensed it.
And lo and behold, from the tree lines, like a ghost, there He stood.
His plants around Him were green, twitching, alive and fresh. He was not coated in bark and old vines like he was, but that was fine, it was understandable.
Where He had offered Himself to Her, he had no choice of what became of him. Faerie tales and all that, it was... hard to explain.
Still, a smile broke out on his face at the sight of the Prophet.
“It’s been a long time, Malcolm.” He greeted, his voice so different, but there were still indications that it was one that He would recognize well enough. “I’m sorry for the long wait, things... happened. As you can see.”
He stared at him, and nodded, not speaking, but a smile could be seen on His pale lips. He lifted a hand, holding it out as an offering, an invitation.
The being formally known as the Doctor, the Spriggan, approached, taking the cold, dry hand with his own.
--
Made some small changes, to fit a bit better with canon to the audio story, because I forgot something.

The Meeting (Obi-Wan Kenobi SPOILERS)
threo
Tumblr media
A/N: Hey everyone long time no see! Have this heartbreakingly sad idea of mine on what Obi-Wan was thinking about during the fight. Obviously Spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi ahead so don’t read if you haven’t seen it
Tagging some friends: @fiveshotsofjager @rex-is-best @a-dorin @hounding-around @obirain @likeshootingstarsinthenightsky @anakin-danvers @threetinyshinies @halzore @padme--amygdala @notreallybeccab @horseluvr00-ff @simping-for-fives
“You should have killed me when you had the chance.”
Vader spoke the deep mechanical voice resonating from somewhere in his mask. His stature now looming over Obi-Wan. The thing was Obi-Wan had thought he killed Anakin, in many ways he did. The hum of the lightsaber he held in his hand bringing himself back to the present.
Obi-Wan stood frantically looking for a way to escape Vader. Until he felt the sharp pain of Vader's force grip wrapping around him. Lifting him off the ground. The sheer amount of hatred radiating from the cyborg was debilitating. Slowly while still staring at his former master Vader lit the fuel that leaked onto the ground in front of him with the edge of his saber.
The flame was hot. Even from where Obi-Wan hung he could feel the heat of the flames. He suddenly knew what Vader had in mind.
“Now you will suffer Obi-Wan.”
As Obi-Wan hit face first with the flames his mind instantly went to that day, the day everything changed. He could almost smell the sulfur-y air and hear the rush of the lava fall. The sounds of metal creaking from exposure to heat and he could feel the sweat on his brows.
The fight replayed in his head every night. That night was no different. From falling from the cliff on Utapuu to finding the security recording in the temple to pleading with Yoda to allow him to confront the emperor. Those few moments of calm in Padme’s apartment to sitting quietly and waiting aboard her ship.
He thought about what he could have done differently. He should have been the one to die all those years ago on Naboo. Qui-Gon Jinn would have done right by Anakin where Obi-Wan had failed. Orr he should have confronted Anakin about his relationship with Padme or told the council. But if he had would that have only made Anakin’s fall that much easier?
He could not really pinpoint the exact moment he sensed a change in his former padawan. There were too many times to count really. The death of his mother, Ahsoka’s expulsion and trial, the fact that he sat on the council but not as a fully-fledged Master.
Glimpses of the war and the times before flashed in his mind as well. Anakin being Anakin ad charging head first into battle. His small family consisting of Ahsoka, Padme, Anakin, and himself. The jokes that were shared between the set of siblings.
Tala’s voice broke through the recurring nightmare. It was shaky and full of concern.
“Leia?”
Obi-Wan said under his breath so soft that the other did not hear it. His thoughts of Anakin quickly turned to worry for Leia.
“Leia?” That caught Tala’s attention “Where where's Leia?”
Tala did not answer mainly because she did not know. She hoped the girl was safely with her piolet on her way home to Alderaan.
“We need to get him to Jabim.” Tala said quietly as Obi-Wan's pain came forth his adrenaline all but gone. If he knew one thing it was Vader was coming for him. He did not know when but he knew he would see his Padawan again.

Things Alador Blight did do:
-Verbally abuse Amity along with his wife at her birthday party, forcing her to cut off her best friend
-Being complicit in forcing Amity into a friend group she didn’t want to be a part of, just because they’re business partners with their parents
-Tolerating the necklace Amity has been wearing for several years (mini Amity wore it to her birthday party already)
-Tolerating that Amity is being forced to dye her hair and the twins are being forced to match by their mom
-Go along with his wife’s plan to get Amity’s friends thrown out of school to teach Amity a lesson
-Immediately backing down when his wife tells him she wants the Abomatron to keep fighting Luz until she is “completely obliterated”
-Encouraging his wife to hold up their end of the deal only because Amity is powerful and could become a coven head one day
-On that note, not only tolerating but actively encouraging the academic pressure Odalia puts on their children, seeing how important Amity’s skills specifically are to him
Things Alador Blight DIDN’T do:
-Actively step in when his wife injured and almost killed his daughter’s friend to present their products
-Do anything against Luz and his own daughter being hit with a fucking hammer
-Stop any of the abuse we know of
-Bother to figure out Amity is literally scared of her mom or do anything about that
-Do anything to improve Amity’s situation, or even figure out how miserable she is
Alador clearly isn’t scared of his wife (which was everyone’s favorite theory for why he never protected his kids before). He disagreed with her multiple times throughout the episode, and didn’t seem to care too much when she got annoyed with him. He just doesn’t care that she’s abusing their kids, and that’s when he’s not actively going along with it like he did in Amity’s memory.
I don’t care if anyone thinks of the Blights as interesting antagonists. But I’ve seen so many people downplaying Alador’s role in the abuse his kids endure, talk about him being a good dad and say he needs to like, be saved from Odalia or something. Guys, he’s complicit in the abuse Amity, Ed and Em experience, and as shown in the flashback, actively encourages some of it.
Please hold off on the father of the year badges.
I’ll never get how people can look at abusive cartoon parents and decide those are the people we should be giving the benefit of the doubt.
Alador currently hasn’t done jack shit to help any of his kids as far as we’re aware. Him encouraging Odalia to let Amity’s friends back into school was for selfish reasons, because she’s getting powerful and thus it’s good to stay in her good graces.
Stop calling him a good dad. I’ll throw hands.

As a few other blogs on here have said, although it's nice that some can relate to Alador and his personality, and it's great to come up with neurodivergent headcanons,
Let's not forget he's still a bad parent. Yes, he intervened with Odalia. But he was only being logical with her. It doesn't seem that either of them overpower each other. They're both terrible parents. Odalia is just more…expressive about it. Alador is an enabler. He's still the one that encouraged cutting ties with Willow because she was a late bloomer.
I can see why Dana likes writing him, and he's just as fascinating as she said. But he's still a bad person.

How Exactly Does The Teleportation Glyph Combination Work?
Tumblr media
Ok. Here I’ll be going over my thoughts on how the Teleportation Glyph combo works and how the different Glyphs that are part of the combo cause the teleportation. This post was inspired by @cartoonsofthecosmos’s (as I like to call it; @cartoonsofthecosmos didn’t exactly give this post a title) The Anatomy Of Philip Wittebane’s Teleportation Glyph post. Also, Spoiler Alert for The Owl House TV series, specifically the episode ‘Elsewhere And Elsewhen’. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media
First off, I’m gonna give a quick rundown on how Glyph combos in general work. As Lilith explained in the episode ‘Escaping Expulsion’, Glyphs command the magic around them and combining Glyphs is like saying different words. So, in order to trigger a certain magic spell, you have to draw and organize certain Glyphs in a certain way in order to organize the different words into a specific sentence. A specific command.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I’m gonna go over what I think is the most interesting part of the Teleportation Glyph combo. What I found the most interesting about the Teleportation Glyph combo is that there’s a Fire Glyph in the center which is something that was also pointed out by @cartoonsofthecosmos in his/her (he or she didn’t exactly say his or her gender on his or her blog) The Anatomy Of Philip Wittebane’s Teleportation Glyph post. I think this holds the key to finding out how this combination of Glyphs were able to trigger a teleportation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I’m gonna go over how a Fire Glyph being in the center of the Teleportation Glyph combo helped trigger the teleportation. Ironically, I think one thing that can explain how a Fire Glyph being in the center of the Teleportation Glyph combo helped trigger a teleportation is real life science on the 3 States Of Matter. As shown in the picture of the 3 States Of Matter above, when heat rises, a solid turns into a liquid and then into a gas. I think Glyphs use those laws of physics to their advantage. This was shown in the episode ‘Hunting Palismen’ where Luz and Hunter used a Fire Glyph drawn right next to an equally sized Ice Glyph to make a Mist Glyph combo. The fire from the Fire Glyph must have melted the ice from the Ice Glyph into a gas of mist as the magic from the 2 Glyphs was combining. And when a block of solid ice is melted into liquid water, it’s pretty much falling apart. And some science fiction says that when something is teleported, it’s taken apart in one place and put back together in another place. So, I think that’s how a Fire Glyph being in the center of the Teleportation Glyph combo helps trigger a teleportation. When acting in conjunction with the other Glyphs in the Teleportation Glyph combo, the heat from that Fire Glyph in the center takes that something apart in one place. I’ll be going over how it then puts that something back together in another place on the latter half of my next point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On this one, I’m gonna be explaining how the other Glyphs are involved in activating the Teleportation Glyph. Also, I’ll be looking at it through a more philosophical lense as well as a scientific one. I think that since there’s a Fire Glyph in the center of the Glyph combo, the Teleportation spell is a modified Fire spell. Another reason why I think it’s a modified Fire spell is because when Philip Wittebane activated the Teleportation Glyph combo, a fire-like energy appeared from the Glyph combo and around Philip just before he got teleported away as shown in the picture above. So, that means that in order to figure out how the other Glyphs help cause the teleportation, one has to figure out how they would modify a Fire spell. In order to help explain it, I’m gonna start off by saying that Glyph magic can not only use the laws of physics to their advantage but can also bypass the laws of physics as well since it’s magic, something that’s very famous for going against the rules established by science. I think the other Fire Glyphs are to help the Fire Glyph in the center with the “taking that something apart in one place” part because I think that whereas a Glyph combo of 2 equally sized Fire Glyphs drawn and connected right next to each other would just make a bigger fire, drawing and connecting them together in a different way, like how there are other Fire Glyphs in rings surrounding the Fire Glyph in the center, would do something drastically different. And I think in this case, the flames from the other Fire Glyphs alter the power of the flames from the Fire Glyph in the center thus causing it to have a different effect such as “taking that something apart in one place” in a similar manner to teleporting something away from Point A. It’s like the difference between adding 3 more lines to 1 line in order to make it into a longer line and adding 3 more lines to 1 line in order to make it into a square or rectangle. Adding 3 more lines to 1 line in order to make it into a longer line only adds more length to length that’s already there whereas adding 3 more lines to 1 line in order to make it into a square or rectangle will also add width to that line’s length thus changing it from a 1-Dimensional line to a 2-Dimensional square or rectangle rather than just adding more length to length that’s already there like adding 3 more lines to 1 line in order to make it into a longer line would.
And I think that the Plant Glyphs are to make it so that the person or thing is able to survive the teleportation from Point A to Point B. Here’s a quick metaphor to help explain why I think this is the case. Just because the tree above ground is destroyed doesn’t mean the roots underground are too. It’s also how plants can regrow after a forest fire burns them down. By that logic, I think that while the Fire Glyphs burn down the tree that is the person’s or thing’s physical body, the Plant Glyphs make it so the roots that are their very essence itself is still intact while making the voyage from Point A to Point B. And I also think the Ice Glyphs along with the Plant Glyphs make it so the person or thing actually reaches Point B. I think that because just like how plants can regrow after being burned down by a forest fire, an object can be reassembled at Point B after being taken apart at Point A during a teleportation. So, the Plant Glyphs do help the object reach Point B. But I think that saying that the object will just be reassembled at Point B on their own from there is probably taking this metaphor too far here. While atoms might come back together after coming apart, they don’t form the same thing they did before like plants do. So, I think this is where the Ice Glyphs come in. Here’s a metaphor to help explain why that’s the case. Ice is pretty much frozen water. So, just like how despite certain bits of water literally never stay in the same spot since they’re always fluidly moving throughout the rest of the water, a certain bit of water can still be frozen into a block of ice and thus be contained. So, the same can be said of an object which is currently being teleported between one place and another. It’s technically nowhere in the universe at that moment because it’s currently disassembled at one place and has yet to be reassembled at the other place. The solidifying cold from the Ice Glyphs can help counteract the melting heat from the Fire Glyphs that caused the object to be taken apart at Point A and thus help the Plant Glyphs reassemble an object at Point B. The Ice Glyphs then help solidify the “certain bit of water” that is the object’s essence and thus further helps the Plant Glyphs reassemble the object at Point B.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that I’ve explained what functions each of the Glyphs on the Teleportation Glyph combo may have, I’ll be explaining why the Glyphs are placed where they are on the Teleportation Glyph combo. I heard once that the Teleportation Glyph combo looked like an atomic structure. After getting a good look at the Teleportation Glyph combo, I can see it. So, I’ll be comparing the Teleportation Glyph combo with the picture of the atom structure above to help figure this out. [Disclaimer: I’ll only be using the diagram of the atom structure above and not the literal science of atoms to help simply because atoms were never really my thing and I don’t want to risk getting something wrong.] To me, the Fire Glyph in the center is kinda like the protons and neutrons since they’re in the center of the atom structure. I also think that the first ring outside of the circle around the Fire Glyph in the center is kinda like the nucleus. The nucleus circles around the protons and neutrons and acts as a barrier that keeps them somewhat isolated from the rest of the atom just like how that first ring keeps the Fire Glyph in the center somewhat isolated from rest of the Teleportation Glyph combo. So, I think that means that first ring makes it so that the magic from the rest of the Teleportation Glyph combo doesn’t mix too much with the magic of the Fire Glyph in the center in order to make sure the magic doesn’t go awry. And I think the second and third rings are kinda like the atom’s orbit because the atom’s orbit is where the electrons are positioned just like how the second and third rings of the Teleportation Glyph combo are where the (as I’ll call them here) satellite rings are positioned. Speaking of which, that’s why I think that the satellite rings on the Teleportation Glyph combo are kinda like the electrons on the atom diagram above. Because the satellite rings are positioned on the second and third rings are positioned in a similar manner to how the electrons are positioned on the atom’s orbit. I think that the Glyphs on the second and third rings help modify the power of the Fire Glyph in the center in the same way I described in my previous point. And I also think that the satellite rings help modify the rest of the Glyph combo further in order to make sure the Teleportation spell does its job.
Also, another thing I noticed is that aside from the first ring, literally all of the rings have both Fire Glyphs and Plant Glyphs (if you count the ones in the center of the satellite rings too) with most of them also having Ice Glyphs. And, as noted by @cartoonsofthecosmos in his/her post about The Anatomy Of Philip Wittebane’s Teleportation Glyph post, the Teleportation Glyph combo has 8 Fire Glyphs and 8 Plant Glyphs but only 5 Ice Glyphs. I think this all means that the Ice Glyphs need to be integrated more moderately and cautiously in the Teleportation Glyph combo. I think this makes sense because teleportation, especially the type that involves taking something apart at Point A and putting it back together at Point B, can be very dangerous if something goes wrong. Like I explained earlier, the Teleportation Glyph combo needs the Ice Glyphs to help the Plant Glyphs reassemble the object at Point B by freezing and thus solidifying the “certain bit of water” that is the object’s essence. And if that kind of process is done incorrectly, the object could come to Point B all wrong. Picture the object as an ice cube. During the teleportation from Point A to Point B, it’s melted into that bit of water. If the Ice Glyphs aren’t integrated very carefully, they could cause that bit of water to be refrozen and resolidified into an icicle or something instead of an ice cube. Something similar could happen to any other object that teleports from Point A to Point B. Its atoms could be arranged in the wrong way. And atoms are what make an object what it is. This all is probably also the reason why the Teleportation Glyph combo is as complex as it is. Because perfecting this kind of teleportation is extremely delicate work since it involves putting something back together from scratch without so much as atoms to work with. And if any of the Glyphs on the Teleportation Glyph combo are even slightly off, the teleportation will end in disaster. Philip Wittebane probably went through a lot of trial and error before he finally perfected the Teleportation Glyph combo.
Speaking of which, as a side note, I was honestly a bit surprised that Philip was able to perfect magic like this since he lived in Connecticut during the 17th Century (the 1600s), a time place where Puritanism still reigned. But after looking through Google a little bit, I found out that the Scientific Revolution first started even before the 17th Century with Copernicus’ heliocentric model of the solar system in 1543 which was one of the first things that proposed that Earth wasn’t the center of the universe. Granted, Copernicus’ proposal that the sun was the center of the universe in his heliocentric model of the solar system wasn’t all that accurate either. But still, the fact that it challenged the idea that Earth was the center of the universe was still a step in the right direction. And Galileo Galilei, who is known today as the founder of modern physics, made his first telescope in 1609. Also, Sir Isaac Newton lived during the 17th Century which is also when he was developing his theories of gravitation. This all technically doesn’t prove that Philip Wittebane got inspired by these scientists to practice more revolutionary ideas. After all, quite a lot of people weren’t quite open to those ideas back then. But it still technically proves that some people during the 17th Century were slowly but surely becoming more accepting of new ideas. After all, last time I checked, Copernicus, Galileo Galilei and Sir Isaac Newton do count as some people. And it looks like Philip’s own brother Caleb was one of those people judging by the fact that he willingly followed a witch to the Boiling Isles and embraced the idea of magic as stated in the episode ‘Thanks To Them’. And in that same episode, it has also been stated that Philip actually loved his brother before they went to the Boiling Isles. So, Philip might not have been inspired by the scientists I mentioned above but he was inspired by his brother Caleb to embrace some new ideas. If Caleb was open to the idea of a whole world of magic, there’s a good chance he was also open to the new ideas being presented to humanity while he and Philip were still on Earth. But here’s the thing. While, thanks to his brother Caleb, Philip was more willing to embrace new ideas, Philip wasn’t also willing to reject the old ideas of the 17th Century, namely the idea that all witches are evil. Copernicus was willing to reject the old idea that Earth was the center of the universe, Galileo Galilei was willing to reject priesthood in order to learn more about medicine, Sir Isaac Newton was willing to reject the old idea that the Holy Bible automatically takes precedence over science and Caleb Wittebane was willing to reject the old idea that all witches are evil. They all rejected the old way in order to move on with the new way. But Philip wasn’t willing to follow suit. Philip only saw new ideas as new ways to hunt down and destroy witches. Philip was willing to practice magic but only saw it as another way to destroy witches.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.
