"Were-shark" by Eric Holmes and his son Chris, in Alarums & Excursions 13, July 15, 1976. Eric and Chris wrote up a number of stories from their D&D adventures for A&E, often illustrated by Chris. The following year saw the publication of the first Basic D&D set edited by Holmes, with his sample dungeon below Zenopus' tower and Portown also containing a sea cave with a beach, 2 boats, and a monster in the water.

would you ever add to the wolfverse again?

Would I!!!

I feel like I get some variation on this ask every month or two, which is delightful, since it gives me a chance to remind myself of my plans for the wolfverse and keep it all fresh in my mind. Currently among the six (6!) scrivener documents I have open on my poor old bedraggled writing laptop are two different installments of wolfverse: the interconnected stories of the two elder Hughes brothers (Quinn/Brady and Jack/Nico, featuring ace!Quinn which I'm SO excited for). After I finish my current commissions, it's a bit of a tossup whether I dive into those or the Trevor sequel to the Jack/Nico D/s story, since I'm super excited to write all of them. I'm also planning on:

Trevor/Jamie (gotta fix that trade)

TK/Patty (omg so overdue, and probably needs to happen before Trevor/Jamie)

Cole/Nick?? idk, I've made him and Jack and Trevor all omegas on the USNTDP together, so it seems unfair if he doesn't get a story 😆

And then there are some throwbacks which I might write or which might just get folded into the other stories where there's team overlap:

PK/Carey -- I already made Carey a wolf in one of the Bennguin stories I think, so I'll need to decide what's going on with him and Carey before I write Jack/Nico

Claude/Danny -- Ditto with Claude and the TK/Patty story

Eric Staal/Jeff Skinner -- I was more excited about this one back when it looked like they'd be on the Sabres together for a while and before Eric was a jerk about Pride jerseys, but hey, still fun to make him a gay wolf!

I've also had asks about Lardunn and Roope/Wyatt, who I could see being included down the line, and Caroline Ouellette and Julie Chu have been on my list for ages (it would be so fun to explore what it means to be a female alpha). So as you can see, no plans to wrap up this 'verse anytime soon. 😄

Robot Monster will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on July 25 via Bayview Entertainment. Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the movie is presented in frame sequential Blu-ray 3D, anaglyphic 3D, and standard 2D.

Also known as Monsters from Mars and Monsters from the Moon, the 1953 sci-fi horror film is directed by Phil Tucker and written by Wyott Ordung. George Nader, Claudia Barrett, and George Barrows star.

Robot Monster has been newly restored in 4K from 35mm 3D archival elements by the 3-D Film Archive. Special features - some of which are presented in 3D - are listed below, where you can also watch the new trailer.

Gonna spend the first week of July by drawing one of my favorite guilty pleasure pairings! Wanted to draw something wholesome and cheesy. Love at first sight am I right?

As Kyle grabbed Cartman tightly by the arm, he simply stood there with his eyes moving up to look at Cartman’s face. Oddly enough, he started to observe the fat kid’s face. How his hair showed slightly out of his hat, his face that appeared so round and soft to touch, he even noticed the little freckles on Cartman’s face that were barely noticeable to others… but not to him.

As he stepped even closer, he stared into his beautiful brown eyes. As he stared at them he saw a lost and beautiful soul that, despite all his faults, needs help and guidance.

Kyle needs to give him that, even if Cartman is a massive stubborn prick.

As Kyle took one step closer, the rest of the world seemed to vanish. A light pink glow started to grow on Kyle’s face. He wanted to hold Eric’s face so badly, tell him that everything is going to be okay and be there for him. But for now, all he can do is just…stare.

Florida State University criminology professor Eric Stewart was a guru of the claim that “systemic racism” infests America’s police and American society.

Now he’s out of a job on account of “extreme negligence” in his research.

The academic was fired after almost 20 years of his data — including figures used in an explosive study, which claimed the legacy of lynchings made whites perceive blacks as criminals, and that the problem was worse among conservatives — were found to be in question.

College authorities said he was being fired for “incompetence” and “false results.”

Among the studies he has had to retract were claims that whites wanted longer sentences for blacks and Latinos.

To date, six of Stewart’s articles published in major academic journals like Criminology and Law and Society Review between 2003 and 2019 have been fully retracted after allegations the professor’s data was fake or so badly flawed it should not have been published.

The professor’s termination came four years after his former graduate student Justin Pickett blew the whistle on his research.

Pickett said they had worked together in 2011 researching whether the public was demanding longer sentences for black and Hispanic criminals as those minority populations grew, with the paper claiming they did. But Stewart had fiddled the sample size to deliver that result when the real research did not, Pickett said.

When the investigation into Stewart began in 2020, he claimed he was the victim and that Pickett “essentially lynched me and my academic character.”

After sixteen years as a professor of criminology at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Provost James Clark formally notified Stewart he was being terminated in a July 13 letter.

“I do not see how you can teach our students to be ethical researchers or how the results of future research projects conducted by you could be deemed as trustworthy,” Clark wrote to Stewart, who has been absent from his role since March.

Clark said as well as the six officially retracted studies, other work by Stewart was “in doubt.”

The retracted studies looked into contentious social issues, like whether the public perceives black and Latino people as threats and the role of racial discrimination in America’s criminal justice system.

One 2019 study, which has been retracted, suggested historical lynchings make white people today perceive black people as threats.

Stewart floated the idea “that this effect will be greater among whites… where socioeconomic disadvantage and political conservatism are greater.”

Another retracted 2018 study suggested that white Americans view black and Latino people as “criminal threats,” and suggested that perceived threat could lead to “state-spon.sored social control.”

And in a third, Stewart claimed Americans wanted tougher sentences for Latinos because their community was increasing in numbers and becoming more economically successful.

“Latino population growth and perceived Latino criminal and economic threat significantly predict punitive Latino sentiment,” he concluded in the 2015 study, which has now been retracted.

Stewart’s research also delved into the relationship between incarceration and divorce, street violence, the impact of tough neighborhoods on adolescents, whether street gardens reduce crime, and how race impacts student discipline in schools.

But the disgraced professor was able to rise to prominence as an influencer in his field despite his studies from as early as 2003 now being retracted.

Stewart was a widely-cited scholar, with north of 8,500 citations by other researchers, according to Google Scholar — a measure of his clout as an academic.

He was vice president and fellow at the American Society of Criminology, who honored him as one of four highly distinguished criminologists in 2017.

He was also a W.E.B. DuBois fellow at the National Institute of Justice.

The professor received north of $3.5 million in grant support from major organizations and taxpayer-funded entities, according to his resume.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, the National Science Foundation, which is an arm of the federal government, and the National Institute of Justice, which is run by the Department of Justice, have all funneled money into research Stewart presided over.

The National Institute of Mental Health, a branch of the NIH, poured $3.2 million into research on how African Americans transition into adulthood.

Stewart presided over that initiative as co-principal investigator from 2007 to 2012.

Meanwhile, he reportedly raked in a $190,000 annual salary at FSU, a public university.

While there he served on the school’s diversity, promotion and tenure committees, giving him a say over who got ahead on campus.

He even passed judgment on students accused of cheating and academic dishonesty themselves, as a member of FSU’s Academic Honor Policy Hearing Committee.

The fired professor, 51, graduated from Fort Valley State University and earned his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 2000.

Academic fraud has direct consequences. Aside from improperly obtaining funding, this kind of corruption directly influences society.

The riots had a body count and caused $2b damage, including to minority-owned businesses, many of which ultimately just closed.

Of course, the problem is that the exposure of this fraud won't stop those citing or using his work, since it's been accepted based on "faith" - "even if he got it wrong, I know it's true in my heart."

A notable member of the New York Times editorial board attacked New York City Mayor Eric Adams for having a "cold approach" when it came to handling the influx of migrants.

Mara Gay’s piece on Thursday criticized Adams’ response to the thousands of undocumented migrants flooding his city. While she acknowledged the issue as a "crisis" that Adams was ill-prepared to handle, she called his response "particularly disappointing about New York City’s official response to the asylum seekers, unfolding under the gaze of the Statue of Liberty in the harbor."

"Nearly four in 10 city residents were born outside the United States. Waves of immigrants — Dutch, Irish, Italian, Jewish, Chinese, Latino and Afro-Caribbean immigrants, along with many others — helped build this city. So did millions of Black Americans who chased dreams in the city after fleeing the tyranny of the Jim Crow South. That rich legacy doesn’t seem to be on Mr. Adams’s mind," Gay wrote.

She continued, "Since the moment the migrants began showing up last spring, he has made clear he wants little to do with the practical or humanitarian issues their arrival has raised. The mayor has provided basic services for the migrants, and rightly so. But at every turn, he has done so grudgingly."

Gay criticized Adams’ efforts to either move migrants out of New York City or discourage them from staying by distributing fliers. Adams has also frequently warned that the city was at its capacity with migrants, which could cost NYC approximately $4.2 billion over the next two fiscal years.

In response, Gay called on New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, D, to appoint "a kind of New York asylum czar" to properly oversee the crisis while Adams allows nonprofit groups to take over the "welcoming" process.

"Despite Mr. Adams’s cold approach, many nonprofits and private volunteers and some municipal workers are engaged in this humanitarian work," Gay remarked.

As of July 16, the city says it has over 54,800 migrants in care, with 188 sites set up to accommodate them. There were more than 2,800 migrants entering NYC care just one week prior.

Despite these issues, Gay compared Adams to Republican governors such as Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis for their methods of flying and bussing migrants.

"New York’s leaders are supposed to be different. The city’s voters didn’t intend to elect a mayor who acted like Greg Abbott, the Texas governor who sent migrants to cities across the country, including New York. Nor did they vote for someone like Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, the presidential candidate who used asylum seekers for political sport, flying them to the resort island of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts at taxpayer expense just to own the libs," Gay wrote. "New York can do better."

Mayor Adams’ office did not respond for a comment.

I’m fascinated by how freaking messy figure skating is:

So in Beijing 2022, Vanessa James and Eric Radford competed for Canada. She had previously competed for Great Britain and France, but is Canadian, and Eric obviously competed with Meghan Duhamel- they won gold, silver and bronze at the olys and 2 world titles. J/R got together only a few months before the olys and famously caused a massive falling out between D/R, (who were still professional skaters but Meghan was pregnant during this whole series of events- I believe) completely screwed over an up and coming and much more deserving Canadian team preventing them from going to the olys (the girl in that partnership subsequently quit skating). J/R at these olys were coached by Julie Marcotte- French-Canadian coach and choreographer- sister of former pairs skater Bruno Marcotte, the HUSBAND of Meghan and D/R’s coach when they competed. Bruno was in Beijing with the team he and Meghan coach: Miura/Kihara from Japan.

So there is a brother and sister here who are coaching different teams- Bruno is the husband of Eric’s former partner who “dumped her” for Vanessa supposedly based on during a skating show trying a throw triple something and her landing it..

The prelims for Jacket 4 will come in two waves after the winner’s bonus poll ends on Sunday, so get your votes in there.

First, there will be the prelims to decide between love interests for Johns/Jacks/Variants who had multiple submitted. There are eight of those matches, and they will be released throughout the day on Monday, July 10.

Wendy was born as Shon Seung-wan in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, South Korea. Her family consists of her parents, an affluent couple whose names haven't been revealed to the public, and her sister, Son Seung-hee, who is three years Wendy's senior. Wendy spent most of her childhood years in Cheongju, South Korea.

Wendy aspired to become a singer from the age of six and throughout her life trained to fulfill this goal. She also learned to play the saxophone, piano, flute, and guitar.

At the age of 12, Wendy and her sister moved to live in Canada, and later the USA. Whilst living in North America, Wendy began using the name Wendy Shon and learned to speak English, as well as some French and Spanish. For her education in these countries, she attended Shattuck St Mary's School in Minnesota, USA, and Richmond Hill High School in Ontario, Canada.

After graduating high school in 2012, she moved to South Korea to establish a professional singing career. Prior to this in 2010, she auditioned for the "Koreaboo: Cube Entertainment Global Auditions 2011" with an online audition and was picked from over 5,000 videos by Koreaboo and Cube Entertainment to continue to the final round in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. G.NA personally picked the 15 finalists with Koreaboo to open for her first solo showcase, held in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In 2012, she auditioned at the SM Global Audition in Canada and was recognized for her musicality, being able to play several instruments, as well as having strong vocal skills.

2014: Pre-debut activities

She trained for less than two years before she was introduced as a member of SM Entertainment's pre-debut trainees team SM Rookies on March 14, 2014

As part of SM Rookies, Wendy released the song "Because I Love You" for the soundtrack of the Mnet drama Mimi, which was one of the soundtracks of the Mnet drama series, Mimi, which labelmate Changmin starred in, appearing in the music video as well. A clip of Wendy singing a cover of Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" was released on SM Entertainment's official YouTube channel.

2014–2019: Debut with Red Velvet, stage accident

In late-July 2014, Wendy was assigned to represent the color blue and chosen to be the main vocalist of Red Velvet, which debuted on August 1, 2014 with the single "Happiness".

Wendy collaborated with rapper Yuk Ji-dam for the song "Return", one of the OSTs of KBS2's drama Who Are You: School 2015. The song was released on June 8, 2015 and debuted at #31 on the Gaon Singles Chart. She released another song "Let You Know" for the soundtrack of the JTBC drama D-Day on October 16. On January 9, 2016, she became a panelist on We Got Married. On King of Mask Singer (episode 43 aired on January 24, 2016), she participated as a contestant with the stage name "Space Beauty Maetel". Wendy released a collaboration single with Eric Nam titled "Spring Love" on March 4, 2016, as part of SM Entertainment's SM Station project.

On December 25, 2019, Wendy fell from a raised stage while rehearsing for a performance on the year-end show SBS Gayo Daejeon. She fell approximately 2.5 meters (8.2ft) and received multiple injuries, including a broken wrist, fractured pelvis, a cracked cheekbone, and other unspecified facial and bodily injuries. Wendy was subsequently on hiatus for over a year while she recovered.

2021: Return to activities, Wendy's Youngstreet, GOT the beat

On January 1, 2021, Wendy's health hiatus official ended and she returned to idol activities.

On July 12, 2021, Wendy became the DJ host for SBS Power FM's radio show Wendy's Youngstreet, adopting the DJ name "WanD". The show ran for almost two years, until July 2, 2023.

On December 27, 2021, Wendy was revealed alongside Seulgi as one of the members of GOT the beat, the first unit of the project group Girls On Top.[2] The unit debuted on January 3, 2022 with the digital single "Step Back".

2023: First musical role

On June 19, 2023, Wendy confirmed that she had been cast in the role of "I" in the musical Rebecca. She performed from August 19–November 19, 2023.

Filmography

Since her debut, Wendy has appeared on the variety shows, We Got Married, King of Masked Singer, Trick and True, Raid the Convenience Store and Battle Trip. She made a cameo in the series, Descendants of the Sun and made an appearance in the documentary, SMTown: The Stage.
