Dr Paul Erdős, probably the greatest mathematician of the 20th century, used amphetamine and methylphenidate daily. Dr Ron Graham bet him $500 that he couldn't give them up for a month.

Erdős won the bet, then went back on the meds. He said:

"You've showed me I'm not an addict. But I didn't get any work done. I'd get up in the morning and stare at a blank piece of paper. I'd have no ideas, just like an ordinary person. You've set mathematics back a month."

Undiagnosed ADHD, no? But it wasn't recognised in those days. See the difference medication made even to Erdős!

Az erdőgazdálkodás következményeként, az energiapiaci helyzet és a tűzifarendelet miatt országszerte egyre több helyen láthatjuk a fakitermelés nyomait, sajnos a védett területeken is. A Greenpeace Kárpátokra készített friss, nemzetközi tanulmányának egyik legfőbb megállapítása, hogy hiába a sok védett terület, a térség valamennyi országában a fakitermelés kap elsőbbséget a természetvédelemmel szemben. A Kárpátok Magyarországra eső részén található Duna-Ipoly, Bükki és Aggteleki Nemzeti Parkokban hasonló a helyzet – a védett és Natura 2000 területek döntő részén gazdasági célú fakitermelés zajlik. A WWF Magyarország több mint tíz éve szorgalmazza a nemzeti parkokban kialakítandó háborítatlan övezetek létrehozásának fontosságát – erre hívtuk fel a figyelmet mindkét Csarna-völggyel kapcsolatos kampányunkban. Részt vettünk az Északi-középhegység erdeit vizsgáló kutatásokban, jelenleg pedig a LIFE4OAKForests projektben dolgozunk, amely a térség tölgyerdeinek helyreállítását célozza.
