Rider of Clouds
A a loose adaptation of the Ugaritic Baal cycle of myths, with some changes and the holes patched up with other myths and historical trivia. It will probably go on and on as some sort of silly “myth crossover” thing. Mount Saphon, the spiritual center of a large but poorly defined area spanning from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates and the residence of many gods, needs a new king. While the former king of the gods, El, favors his distant relative Yam, this decision is not popular with the other deities and would be a disaster for their human followers; however, few dare to question El decisions in public. The exception is Baal, the heir(ess) of El's popular but not very ambitious rival Dagan, determined to take Mount Saphon to the bright future of the late bronze age.
Protagonists
Tumblr media
Baal (Hebat) – the eponymous Rider of Clouds (a real title used in myths and cult texts), a young weather deity born to Dagan and Shalash (not pictured), semi-retired agricultural gods who settled in Tuttul on the Euphrates shortly before Baal's birth. Dagan hails from Mesopotamia proper, while Shalash is Hurrian. While the mythical  Baal Hadad is male, my version is a woman – the idea started as a joke about conflating Baal from the Baal cycle with Baalat Gebal, a female figure associated with another levantine bronze age city (BG's actual identity is an object of much scholarly debate) being more valid than conflating him with much later Baal Hammon from Carthage (or rather with Roman hot takes about this deity), which happens a lot online, but I got attached to it o now here we are.   She nonetheless uses a male title inherited from her father, much like a few historical female rulers did. In my version “Hadad” is only a title (or rather a me, eg. divine attribute), and her real name is actually Hebat. Irl Hebat was, among other things, the name of a goddess mentioned in one inscription as Dagan's daughter, and thus a featureles sister of Baal. As the levantine/syrian Hebat lacks a defined character in real mythology (”another” Hebat was regarded as the Hurrian storm god's wife but was at times replaced in this role by the more interesting sun goddess of Arinna and that's about it; I'm not going to use that one in my story) it should be fine to conflate her with Dagan's best attested divine child, I think? Baal is impulsive and follows a moral code which, depending on the point of view, might be either naive or heroic, which means she's not exactly the optimal person to get involved in n-dimensional divine politics (the ideal person to be the protagonist of an Ugaritic epic poem, as evidenced by history), but that's not enough to stop her from trying; the popularity with humans helps, too. The story documents her rise to the position of the head god of the pantheon residing on Mount Saphon, ruling over Ugarit and other surrounding areas.
Tumblr media
Astarte (it should be Ashtart for maximal accuracy but everyone knows the later form of the name better so...) – a goddess of humble origin and no particularly well defined attributes, who attaches herself to Baal initially in hopes of advancing own career, though the two eventually develop a more genuine relationship. She patterns herself after the much more famous Mesopotamian Inanna, seeing her as an ideal to strive for. While Baal has the name recognition and disposition fitting for a major deity, Astarte is the part of the duo actually capable of navigating politics, and takes the title of Face of Baal, negotiating support for Baal's bid with other gods. The image of Baal she projects differs slightly from reality, though not enough for most onlookers to notice. Astarte is also a connoisseur of foreign clothing (as pictured above) and art.
Tumblr media
Anat (art courtesy of my girlfriend who sadly isn’t on tumblr but who helped a lot with figuring out a lot about this story) – the younger daughter of the ruling couple of Mount Saphon. Her philosophy differs greatly from her parents' and as a result she isn't really seriously considered for succession. Her hobbies include bladed weapons, gambling and heroic epics; in the past she attempted writing her own self insert one. Her temperament means she was never considered for succession, which she doesn't particularly mind. She's deeply invested in Baal's ascendance, and is probably the god Astarte wants to recruit for their cause the most.
Tumblr media
Gupan and Ugar – two minor gods who might be some of the only allies Baal recruited herself rather than with Astarte's help. They play a minor role in the story as her messengers and heralds (just like in the real myth!). They're also a couple. The cuneiform on their coats says “Baal.”
Tumblr media
Kothar-wa-Khasis – a craftsman god who, by own admission, only works part time in Ugarit and travels the world for the rest of it. He's kind and dependable and his wares are both affordable and of great quality, but his real motives are hard to ascertain. His real identity is likewise a subject of much speculation among other gods – while his preferred manner of clothing hints at an egyptian origin, nothing is known for sure. His true name is that of the god Ptah of Memphis; he spends most time outside it and incognito because he thinks smaller pantheons on the periphery of Egypt's influence offer more artistic freedom. He speaks in a very poetic pointlessly complex way (basically... imitating the style of ancient poem translations). While an architect first and foremost he a reneissance man - architect, sculptor, engineer, armorer, musician. He isn't very fond of Yam due to the latter's lack of aptitude for art and cost cutting suggestions.
Tumblr media
There are actually two gods hiding behind the title “Kothar-wa-Khasis,” with the second one hailing from Caphtor (Crete) from where  Kothar arrives when commissioned to build Baal's palace in the real myth. She's shy and refuses to reveal her real name and hides behind the title “Mistress of the Labyrinth” and the labrys symbol. Her arrival is generally a sign of the duo taking a project particularly seriously.
Tumblr media
Shapash – El's firstborn daughter, serving as “the torch of the gods”, a royal herald and solar deity. She also handles her parents' “foreign policy” on their behalf, which in practice means figuring out how to placate neighbors whose decisions aren't guided by the need to avoid angering various reviled figures.
Antagonists
Tumblr media
Yam (right)  – a sea monster more than a god, presiding over the nearby section of the sea and all that dwells in it, including the commercially significant sea slugs. He's also the son of the formerly influential Anatolian god Kumarbi, banished to the underworld by the current head god Teshub due to his many past misdeeds. As a result of his father's past influence over the world (and current influence over the ruling couple), Yam gained El's support and received many titles, which de facto makes him the most likely to succeed El as the king of local pantheon.  He's capricious and inconsiderate, but maintains a larger than life public image meant to make him palatable to potential backers. The exact circumstances of his arrival in Ugarit are shrouded in mystery, and may or may not be responsible for his unusually strong hatred of Baal. Mot (left) – profoundly unpleasant and unsociable being kept around by Anat's parents for unclear reasons. He resides in the great offering pit in the abandoned city of Urkesh, formerly the center of Kumarbi's sphere of influence, reduced to a ghost town.   While his equivalents in neighboring areas generally view themselves as impartial or as a necessary evil, Mot gets his kicks from posing as a personification of death itself, and is notoriously corrupt. El and Athirat – the ruling couple of Mount Saphon and parents of Anat and Shapash, currently pondering retirement, which stirs many contenders to the throne into action. El is a lifelong opportunist changing views and allegiances as he sees fit, though he pretty consistently favors his distant relative Yam as his main underling ever since the latter arrived in the area.
Tumblr media
El was originally Amurru, a courtier of the sky god Anu, overthrown by the nefarious Kumarbi. For unclear reasons Kumarbi made Amurru his vassal and bestowed the name Elkunirsa, or El for short, upon him.
Tumblr media
Athirat is largely responsible for El maintaining his title for so long, and is a much craftier politician than he is. She comes from an influential dynasty of sea gods, but lacks dominion over the sea herself.
Tumblr media
She and Yam are related, as seen here.
Tumblr media
Abduyam – an attempt at developing an obscure figure from the original myth, Yam's nameless and seemingly rather rude and infuriating messenger, into a full blown character. The theophoric name he uses (there are real theophoric names invoking Yam, surprisingly) is just a pseudonym, and his real identity is a mystery. He interned under a variety of famous mythical villains in order to gain a greater understanding of their ways, and currently serves as Yam's messenger, adviser, doorkeeper and punching bag.
Tumblr media
Ashtar – a feeble opportunist who sides with Yam, hoping to receive a share in the gains he's making thanks to El's blessings. He's pretty content with playing the role of a toady though his aspirations might be different, as Baal and Astarte suspect due to his love of gaudy imported textiles. Megalomania doesn't necessarily equal malevolence, though. He also loves sea slugs.
Foreign dignitaries
Tumblr media
(ignore the ?, it’s just Baal) Marduk (right) – the tutelary deity of Babylon, a prominent and internationally renowned god. While technically the area encompassing Mount Saphon, where the events of the story take place, isn't directly under the control of the Babylonian pantheon, as one of the oldest in the world and the source of the writing it nonetheless has a tremendous impact on smaller neighbors. Formally Marduk is merely a representative of his father Enki and the assembly of the gods in Nippur, but as the old gods are not very mobile, he's the de facto acting head of the pantheon in foreign relations. He doesn't have a unified mythical narrative about himself yet at this point in time, despite his position, which is a source of insecurity for him. During travels, he's assisted by his personal aide and biographer, Nabu (not pictured), and his pet mushussu, Tishpak. Seth (left) – in real life, ancient Egyptians equated many gods of their neighbors with Seth; therefore in Rider of Clouds Seth serves as an ambassador of the Egyptian pantheon, usually residing in Gebal near Mount Saphon – a city whose gods (and human rulers) take pride in trying to be more Egyptian than the Egyptians themselves, and regard Seth as their spiritual liege (under the title “Lord of Lebanon”). While ultimately Marduk's judgment matters the most, Seth gets the right to veto his decisions when it comes to validating claims to local thrones. On good terms with Kothar-wa-Khasis, which is a subject of much gossip among other gods. Teshub (center) – the head of the Hurrian pantheon, technically capable of projecting the most power in Mount Saphon politics due to the Hurrian influence on huge number of other local pantheons, including that of the Hittites, thanks to his marriage to the Hittite sun goddess of Arinna; however, as the local gods for the most part share closer affinity with Mesopotamia than Hatti, he competes with Marduk for political influence. As he and Baal are a very similar type of god, he's the most outspoken supporter of Baal's ascension to the throne out of all 3 foreign dignitaries. El’s support for his nemesis is probably a factor, too.
Tumblr media
Kubaba – the head goddess of Carchemish; much like the king of Carchemish served as a Hittite viceroy taking care of affairs of the vassals irl, she acts as Teshub's ambassador in the southeast, mediating between the Anatolian and Syrian gods. She hopes that Baal's rise will normalize foreign relations to the benefit of her human followers – El's erratic behavior and sympathy for a number of widely detested figures made that rather difficult. While she's not much older than Baal, she poses as an ancient deity and dresses like someone twice her age. She also seeks opportunities to insert herself into suitably ancient narratives. In another time and place she'll be known as Cybele, and eventually as the Roman Magna Mater, but this is not the story about it.
Plot-relevant but not present in the story physically
Tumblr media
Inanna – the celebrity superstar of every pantheon from Hatti to Elam. After being elevated to one of the foremost positions among the gods she started a profitable franchising business, offering help with setting up own cult system and the right to use the title of “Ishtar” and the eight pointed star emblem in exchange for a share in potential profit and a spot in the franchisee' home pantheon. As her fame is unique even among the greatest of the gods, this isn't that bad of a deal. Other benefits of the franchising program include free tickets to the annual Ishtar meetup in Uruk and a 24/7 tech support line ran by her sukkal Ninshubur. Asides from Astarte, prominent members of the franchising program include the Hurrian Shaushka, the Elamite Pinikir, and the night goddess of Kizzuwatna.
Tumblr media
Kumarbi: an agricultural god of the Hurrians who seized the kingship of their pantheon violently before being overthrown himself by Teshub and his allies. Now he resides in the underworld and plots, aided by a network of allies – some opportunistic, some stupid, some simply malevolent. His will is usually carried out by an unspecified number of identical fate goddesses, possible to differentiate only by the numerals on their veils. At the core he and Baal's father Dagan are very similar gods in function, but not in temperament.

I was asked about this topic recently, and, being bored out of my mind, I felt inspired to use it as a starting point for a new series! I hope to share my current headcanons about the personality types of the Digimon Adventure universe’s main characters, according to different personality systems: astrology, Enneagram, MBTI... feel free to suggest any other typologies you’d like me to explore in the future.
In this first post, I’ll try to explain which of the Sun Sign personality archetypes I find more likely and interesting for each character. Consider this this an update of my previous headcanons, post-tri. (and post LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna).
1: DIGIMON ADVENTURE + ZODIAC SIGNS
Taichi - Aries
Yamato - Aries
Sora - Pisces [semi-canon]
Koushirou - Aquarius
Mimi - Leo
Jou - Virgo
Takeru - Libra
Hikari - Pisces
Daisuke - Sagittarius
Miyako - Gemini [canon]
Iori - Capricorn
Ken - Cancer
Meiko Mochizuki - Virgo/Libra
Maki Himekawa - Scorpio
Daigo Nishijima - Leo
Note: Every single headcanon is highly subjective and even I will probably change my mind about it. This is only a PROPOSAL.
If you’re interested in my interpretation and methodology, read on!
Canon Clues
Although there are no official birthdays for the characters, several Adventure materials have provided “goalposts” where we can fit some characters’ birthdays. I strive to make my HCs as canon-compliant as possible, so it’s important for me to take this info into account.
Miyako is stated to be a Gemini in 02.
The official synopsis of tri. Indicates that Taichi is 17 years old during the series, suggesting the has an April-June birthday.
Sure, you’re free to ignore this little nugget if you prefer, but I personally like to think there’s a reason they mentioned Taichi’s age explicitly — something they never did before. They also never mentioned the explicit age of any of the other characters.
Funnily enough, the DALEK official website and novel lists the character’s ages during the events of the film. Since the film takes place in the summer of 2010, taking those numbers at face-value would require us to believe all 8 characters have birthdays in the first half of the year.
This contradicts the explicit on-screen information about Jou’s age in the original series (see below).
I’m proposing this should be interpreted as their “average” ages, rather than precise ages at this specific moment in time — after all, in Kizuna it’s more difficult to identify the characters by their school year, like they always did before.
Sora’s birthday is canonically before the events of Our War Game. The film takes place during the spring holidays, which typically begin around the third week of March.
Sora having a March birthday is so universally accepted by Japanese fans that it’s even on her Wikipedia page. I wouldn’t be surprised if more recent writers took that information into account, post-OWG, and portrayed her accordingly.
Notice that Pisces is only the more likely option considering the canon timeline and Sora’s personality — Aries (late March) and Aquarius (mid-February) could fit as well. Hence why I consider this choice [semi-canon].
Jou, who is a 6th-grader, mentions he’s 11 years old during Adventure. This suggest his birthday would be after August 1.
Ken is supposed to be 9 years old in August 2000, when he’s in Year 3, suggesting he has an April-August birthday.
This is different from other guidebooks which only list the characters “average” ages, because this lists Ken’s precise age during a specific event.
I believe Ken being exactly 9 years old went to the Digital world is deliberate, since Osamu is stated to be 3 years older than Ken, hadn’t yet turned 12 when he died.
Again, except for Miyako, Sora, and Jou birthdays, I can understand why fans chose to ignore any of this.
Personal Notes
My method isn’t about finding a putative “Official / True Birthday” — that never existed, at least for the Adventure eight. It’s about finding birthdays that work within the limitations of canon (see previous section).
My HCs are based on the personality / character archetypes represented by the the zodiac signs. In theory, any Chosen Child could be understood as representing a specific symbolical archetypes.
The problem is that the Adventure characters are quite complex and often deconstruct traditional archetypes. This explains why it’s so hard for fans to agree on which sign they are supposed to represent. I should also note that anime series seem to understand astrological archetypes slightly differently from the Western mainstream tradition, which explains why typical anime zodiac signs sometimes feel a bit “off”.
Nevertheless, some archetypes are so strong that most of the fandom seems to have reached a consensus: Jou/Virgo and Koushirou/Aquarius, for example. Then you have textbook examples of archetypes like Gemini/Miyako (unsurprisingly canon), Taichi/Aries, and Hikari/Pisces. But even there is a lot of room for disagreement and subjective interpretation!
*
The 02 writers clearly intended Daisuke to symbolise Fire, Miyako Air, Iori Earth and, due to the Dark Ocean connection, Ken Water. In fact, it’s super easy to place those four characters into any traditional 4-group personality types, such as the four temperaments, Jung’s types, blood types, ABCD personality, etc.
My HCs respect this, and ended up creating two polar opposites within the team: Daisuke/Miyako (mutable) and Ken/Iori (cardinal).
*
It’s tempting to ascribe 12 main characters = 12 signs, but post-tri. I’m inclined to do something different and not put myself into such a limiting framework.
For this reason I repeat some signs, and I don’t have any Taurus character (sorry!).
*
My MAIN innovative choice is that I suspect Taichi and Yamato might represent the same sun sign.
Now, I understand this is an extremely controversial opinion. It isn’t a possibility I thought about until quite recently.
But Taichi and Yamato being “different but the same / two sides of the same coin” is incredibly well represented if both of them correspond to the Aries personality archetype.
After all, they’re the leaders, the heroes, the Knights in shining armor. This explains their incredible similarities, despite superficial differences. as well as their love-hate dynamic: the rivalry, the union, the way they complement and balance each other out in an almost instinctive way.
Here are some examples of the Aries/Aries dynamic from the literature...
Both of you are independent individuals and you don’t like feeling “owned” by anyone. Neither of you can tolerate being dominated or bossed by anyone else, so you probably make your own decisions, and direct your own lives. You respect one another’s autonomy, and a relationship that is based on constant togetherness and dependency wouldn’t suit either of you. Sometimes, however, there is too much emphasis on individualism rather than on being close and nurturing the relationship. You both have proud egos, and are sensitive to criticism. Almost inevitably you will compete with each other, and in small doses this can be invigorating. But it easily becomes nasty, and one of you is likely to get hurt. If you’ve ever seen two rams locking horns, you know what I mean! You either respect one another immensely or detest one another – rarely anything in between. (X)
If your relationship has been built on the basis that you are equals, the fire element produces tremendous vision and industriousness. Your combined power and effort could well be a force to be reckoned with — but again, only if you both learn to subdue your own ego in the service of each other. Remember, you can’t always be right. You need to try hard to see things from each other’s perspective; this will help the two of you become a great partnership over time. (x)
When Mars clashes with Mars, the result can be full-scale war, with all flags flapping, bravely and colorfully. Occasional flare-ups are bound to occur when these two are thrown into close, daily proximity, without the relief of some separateness in their association. But there will also be some glorious Highs to offset these Lows. (...)  It's been said that Aries people have a way about them. They do. Their own way. Yet, despite that sometimes antagonistic Martian exterior, they'll sense each other's desperate need to be appreciated and liked. When they get together, they may struggle for leadership, but the experience will supply some well-needed lessons. The shock of living with someone - or being around some- one - as innocently thoughtless, selfish and aggressive as one's self, is sure to soften any battering Ram, although there may be a few scars to show for the les- sons in living thus mastered. Aries hearts always carry more scars than the Rams ever show, or openly discuss. (x)
Sounds familiar, doesn't it? The more you read, the more this pattern begins to make sense. Try to watch the Dark Masters arc, the Agumon-is-kidnapped mini arc, tri., and even Kizuna with this possibility in mind, and you’ll understand what I mean.
Sure, order to accept this theory, you have to understand Yamato as a more atypical reserved / sensitive Aries (influenced by a Cancer Moon, perhaps?) and Taichi as a more “pure” Arien type. Yamato is more like a baby lamb, right? (don’t tell it to his face).
You can make a very strong argument for Leo!Taichi (that was my initial HC as well) or Yamato as almost anything else. I wouldn’t disagree. But why not come up with a fresh perspective to explain these two?
Oh, and in case you’re curious, their (canon) Japanese Zodiac is also the same: Dragon, the direct equivalent to Aries.
*
A note about tri.: typing Maki and Daigo seemed straightforward enough. Maki is the stereotypical Scorpio antagonist, and Goggle Boy Daigo’s partner evolved into a literal lion.
I couldn’t resist the idea of making Meiko a Libra, considering her digimon partner is literally the Libra and Meiko is the 9th member of the group. But  personality probably fits other signs better — it’s very tempting to type her a Virgo, the polar opposite of Hikari. She could also be the missing Taurus element (Mei as the literal May Queen).
The truth is... I can’t decide!
*
Disclaimer: There is zero scientific evidence for astrology and, as far as I’m concerned, it’s only interesting as a tool to analyze fictional characters in symbolic /archetypal terms. My headcanons are based on extensive reading about astrology, its symbolism and psychological profiles; I’m happy to share my sources (they’re not from pop astrology). But I’m also aware of the Barnum effect. We are all biased; there are no right or wrong options. Everyone’s conflicting headcanons are equally valid.
Feel free to ask questions or request more in-depth explanations for my suggestions, but FFS don’t start arguing with me and insisting I’m “wrong” based on other people’s equally subjective and disputable headcanons.

MCU characters in the “Star Trek” universe
I thought of making this post months ago. I hesitated, and still do, because some of these are very close to some original “Star Trek” characters that I’m cooking up for a personal “Star Trek” fanfic.
But then someone else made a post about an Avengers/”Star Trek” crossover, with a Vulcan Stephen Strange, that I found interesting. They said they were new to “Star Trek,” and I offered suggestions. They asked me to tag them when I post this, so here I tag: @ellisper this is partially for you. I am not telling anyone that they have to write their Avengers/”Star Trek” crossover this way; this is just my personal two-cents.
Steve Rogers: Thawed Augment from the Eugenics Wars
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In “Star Trek” canon, the Eugenics Wars are a dark part of Earth’s history, set between present day, and the Utopian 23rd Century in which the main action of “Star Trek” is set. The famous “Star Trek” villain, Khan, comes from this time period. The Eugenics Wars occurred before Humans discovered Warp travel, or met any alien life. During this time, humanity experimented with genetic engineering, and created super-humans called Augments. Augments tended to be evil, due to superiority complexes. The most infamous was Khan, who, along with his crew of Augments, wound up cryogenically frozen, and thawed centuries later in Captain Kirk’s time.  For a “Star Trek” version of Steve Rogers, this seems fitting. Naturally, Steve is one of the “good” Augments, who was fighting for equality, against Khan. Somehow, he wound up frozen like Khan’s crew, and thawed centuries later. Just like canon-Steve, this Augment Steve is from a past war that most Starfleet officers only know from history books; and his body and abilities come from a scientific experiment that was abandoned long, long ago.
Sam Wilson: Human pilot, from an off-world colony, scarred by the Dominion War
Tumblr media
Sam would be one of the first people to welcome Steve Rogers to the 24th Century, and treat him like a regular person. His military experience and involvement in PTSD groups might be related to the Dominion War (which occurred during “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” and had a lasting effect on Starfleet and all of its allies, in “Next Generation” and “Voyager.”)
I feel like Sam would come from an off-world colony, maybe because he has a rougher edge to him, that an Earth-bred officer might lack. If I’m not mistaken, Sam also grew up in poverty, in MCU canon. (In “Star Trek,” Earth is a “paradise” in the 24th Century, with all poverty and prejudice eliminated; so human characters who come from bad places come from off-world, like Tasha Yar.)
Stephen Strange: Romulan turncoat, training with Vulcans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vulcans and Romulans are evolutionary cousins. Sans the foreheads, the only significant difference is cultural. Vulcans tamed their volatile emotions centuries ago, with logic and discipline. Romulans embraced their darker tendencies, and are now more imperial. There is great animosity and distrust between the two sub-species. However, some Romulans respect the Vulcans, and seek to learn from them. (This is revealed in “Star Trek: the Next Generation.”)
The Stephen Strange we see in “Infinity War” might seem Vulcan-like. But if you watch his movie, “Dr. Strange,” he wasn’t always so. Pre-wizard Strange is like many of the Romulans you’ll see on “Star Trek:” a brilliant scientist, but very arrogant, with a volatile temper, and questionable ethics. For a “Star Trek” Dr. Strange, I postulate a Romulan scientist who suffers an injury and loses his ability to practice. He travels to Vulcan in the hopes of curing himself, and learns from one of the most powerful Vulcan telepaths. (Vulcans have far more experience with telepathy than Romulans, who for the most part, don’t seem to even have the ability.)
Naturally, a Vulcan/Romulan Strange would also rock that evil-Spock goatee. In short, Strange is a Romulan who converted to Vulcan-ism. His Romulan temperament still shines through his newfound Vulcan discipline, especially when he’s interacting with....
Tony Stark: Joined Trill
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s the one that made me hesitate, because of my “Star Trek” OC. But, here we go....
The Trill look like humans with spots on the sides of their faces, and kangaroo pouches in their tummies (for both males and females). Most of the Trill are pretty much just that. But one tenth of the Trill population is “joined” to a race of super-intelligent, immortal slugs, who live in said kangaroo pouches. Once joined, the slug--called a Symbiont--and the “host” Trill---both have their minds merged into one being. It is very important that a Trill and Symbiont are well matched before joining, or else insanity could result.
A joined Trill will replace his or her last name with the name of the symbiont. (Ezri Tigan is joined to the Dax symbiont, and changes here name to Ezri Dax.) A host will have all of the memories of the Symbiont’s past hosts, which can lead to some confusion and identity crisis.  Since Tony Stark is a character marked entirely by conflict and dualities, I can’t see him being anything but a joined Trill. The Stark symbiont is the genius engineer, and the Tony host is the playboy manchild.
Since Tony’s character is heavily driven by his past (daddy issues, guilt, etc) that could also translate into memories of past-hosts. Maybe the crimes Trill-Tony blames himself for weren’t his at all, but a past host of the Stark symbiont.
On my “Star Trek” OC, Nuvo Auz: He is not exactly a carbon copy of Tony Stark, but he’s close enough to this “Trill Tony Stark” described that I hesitated to share. But oh well. It’s fan fiction, so it’s not like originality is a major issue here.
James Rhodes: Another joined Trill, who has been friends with Stark for several “hosts”
Tumblr media
There is now a reason Rhodey changed appearances so abruptly and completely; he changed hosts! The Rhodey on the left sadly died during a mission where he was unfortunate enough to be wearing red, but the Stark and Rhodey symbionts were inseparable, even though various hosts.  The plotline of Rhodey breaking his back might also be replaced by Rhodey losing another host altogether. That would really motivate Tony, if his best friend really did partially-die, during one of their battles.
The Trill do have laws against “re-association” with past-hosts’ families and spouses, but friendships seem to be except from this rule, as Captain Sisko is friends with Dax through three hosts (Kurzon Dax, Jadzia Dax and Ezri Dax).
Pepper Potts: Unjoined Trill Telepath
Tumblr media
As mentioned above, most Trill are not joined. Among the unjoined Trill, a small percentage are telepathic. These telepathic Trill cannot be joined, but are important in helping with those who are. Trill telepaths guard the unjoined symbionts in their cave-lakes, and also use their telepathy to perform Trill rituals that allow a joined Trill to talk more directly with his or her past hosts.
Trill telepathy is not elaborated on in canon, so this AU has a lot of freedom in terms of what Pepper can do with her telepathy.
Pepper is the only Trill telepath who could deal with the insanity that is Tony Stark, and has been by his side for years. Her telepathy gives her sharp intuition, and she is the first to discover that Stane is betraying Tony, when she quickly reads Stane’s mind when he isn’t looking. She can sense when Tony’s in danger, and communicate with him mentally from afar.
She hates how reckless joined Trill like Tony are, since they feel immortal. She reminds him he is not immortal; his memories may be, but there will only ever be one Tony Stark, and she doesn’t want to lose him.
Morgan Stark: Get some tissues....
Tumblr media
Tony, being Tony, goes against the Symbiosis Commissions rules about joining, and leaves his symbiont Stark to his daughter after his death. Morgan inherits the symbiont, and with it, all her father’s memories. She constantly hears him tell her, “I love you 3000.”
Mantis: Aenar/Betazoid Hybrid
Tumblr media
The Aenar are evolutionary cousins of Andorians (those blue guys with the antennae). The Aenar, unlike Andorians, have very powerful telepathic abilities, and live in seclusion.
Tumblr media
Betazoids look identical to humans, except for their solid black eyes. Betazoids, as well, have a wide range of mental powers. Most are some degree of telepaths, but how powerful they are depends on the individual. Counselor Deanna Troi, who is half-Betazoid and half-Human, cannot read minds like most full-Betazoids, but she is an “empath,” and can sense emotions from other people.
Tumblr media
Mantis’s black eyes and empathic powers scream of Betazoid to me. But naturally her antennae and sheltered nature also scream of Aenar. I think an Aenar/Betazoid hybrid makes the most sense for her, personally.
Natasha Romanof: Low-telepath Betazoid, or Betazoid/Human Hybrid
Tumblr media
Betazoid women are stereotyped for their alluring, seductive natures. Natasha Romanov uses seduction, along with her sharp intuition, in her job as a spy. She clearly cannot read or affect others’ minds the way Mantis or Wanda Maximoff can, but Nat’s ability to read other people would make sense for a part-Betazoid, or a Bertazoid on the low-end of the telepathy spectrum.
Clint Barton: Human, or Bajoran
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bajorans are basically humans with wrinkly noses, and their whole planet seemingly follows one religion. All in all, not “Star Trek’s” best concept for an alien race.
I was originally going to dismiss Clint as a boring Human, but he could just as easily be Bajoran. Bajorans have a history of guerrilla fighting Cardassian oppressors, and while it’s never stated in canon, I’ve always gotten the impression that Bajorans were more nimble and stealthy than humans. After recently winning their home planet back from the Cardassians, Bajorans are trying to rebuild their lives and families. Many are farmers. This all seems fitting enough for Clint. Otherwise, Clint might simply be the token boring Human onboard. Like Miles O’Brian of DS9, Clint is the family man in the group, and...not much else. He could even relate to Miles over having a relatively mundane-seeming job compared to the other characters (Miles sat at the transporter controls when on the Enterprise, and is the subject of much ridicule in the fandom for this.)
Tumblr media
Thor: Klingon, son of the current emperor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re new to “Star Trek,” you might be thinking, “No way, pretty Thor, one of those ugly lizard things from ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ and the recent movies?” Well I’m thinking more of the Picard-era Klingons for this one.  Yes, Klingons are warriors--and specifically, they are largely based on stereotypes of Vikings--but not all Klingon characters are vicious monsters. Many are jolly and full of honor, and love to drink mugs of bloodwine while telling exaggerated tales of their glorious battles. Picturing Thor, and all of his Asgardian friends, as Klingons, each with their own unique Klingon forheads, armor and weapons, is just too great.
Loki: Changeling orphan raised by Klingons, who later allies with the Dominion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introduced on “Deep Space Nine,” the Founders, AKA “Changelings,” are a species from the other side of the galaxy. Their true form is silver syrup, but with practice, they can take any form, depending on how skilled and experienced they are. The Founders are rulers of the Dominion, a sort of evil counterpart to the Federeation. Their subject species worship them as gods, and the Founders hope for galactic domination.
To gain more information on the rest of the galaxy, the Founders often send baby Changelings out into the universe, to grow up among alien species, so they can come back and share their experiences with the rest of the Great Link (the sea of silver jelly that makes up the Founder homeworld). Unfortunately, the Founders don’t seem to plan this very well, as they give the baby Changelings no way of knowing where they’re from, why they were sent away, or what they’re supposed to do. Odo, a main character on “Deep Space Nine,” grew up an orphan and the only one of his species, having no clue of his origins.
Now if this isn’t all Loki in a nutshell, I don’t know what is.
Emperor Odin found the baby Changeling, and taught him to take a Klingon form. Loki grew up very bitter about not knowing his origins. When he did finally learn of the Founders, he was eager to return to the Great Link and prove himself, and became one of the Dominion’s highest agents. Loki was far more skilled at shape-shifting than Odo (as many Founders were), and could take any form with ease.
He tried to take over the Klingon Empire by impersonating his father; he led a Dominion Army to try to conquer Earth; and in the end, he switched sides and died trying to save his brother and the Klingon Empire....or did he?
Bruce Banner: Human/Klingon hybrid (either natural or artificial)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are several part-Klingons in “Star Trek” canon. One of them, B’Elanna Torres ( “Star Trek: Voyager”) is a brilliant engineer, who is constantly frustrated by her Klingon temper interfering with her work. Bruce Banner could just as easily be in the exact same boat as her, though his personality would be different than hers. (B’Elanna often combats her rage with sarcasm, and has a lot in common with Tony Stark in that regard.)
B’Elanna is a born hybrid--one human parent, one Klingon parent. There are others, however, who are “artificial hybrids;” a person born one species, who, through some genetic engineering or mistake, ends up with traits of the other species fused into them. Klingons experimented with genetic engineering on themselves to try and disguise as Humans, to infiltrate Star Fleet. (This was a retcon in “Enterprise,” to explain why the Klingons in the Original “Star Trek” look so Human, and nothing like the Klingons of TNG-onward. A Klingon-engineered-to-look-human also appears on “Discovery.”)
Bruce Banner could just be a born hybrid like B’Elanna... but if one wants to tie in his MCU backstory into this “Star Trek” AU, it may make sense to go the “military genetic experiment gone wrong” route. Admiral Ross (no “generals” in Starfleet, don’t ask me why) may have ordered Bruce to test this method of disguising humans as Klingons on himself, and it went horribly wrong.
King T’Challa: Human, from a separate colony that still practices genetic engineering
Tumblr media
In “Star Trek,” it is not uncommon for members of one specific ethnic group to build a colony on an alien planet, based entirely around that one culture. (Or stereotypes of it. “Star Trek” is kind of clumsy with how it handles real life cultures, unfortunately.) There’s a colony of Scottish people, where Dr. Crusher’s nanna lives. Commander Chakotay’s culture was a tribe of Native Americans who left Earth and set up a colony on another planet to preserve their culture.
Wakanda could just as easily be the same case. In addition to preserving their culture, the Wakandans might also have left Earth so that they could continue using genetic engineering, a practice that Starfleet has banned (after the Eugenics Wars). In the Wakanda Colony, genetic manipulation is handled very carefully, and only the ruling king becomes a full-on Augment.
Gamora: Orion pirate
Tumblr media
Orions are a green-skinned race, known to be pirates and slave traders. Orion women emit pheromones that seduce males of other species, though it’s unclear if this always true, or how much control they have over it.  Trekkies tend to think of Orion women as scantily dressed slave dancers, but latter “Star Trek” incarnations have female Orions in other roles, often as badass pirate traders and leaders, and sometimes even Starfleet officers. They do have a tendency to wear kinky black leather though, and the last Orion woman we saw on “Star Trek: Discovery” was a dead-ringer for Gamora!
Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes: Liberated Borg Drone
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Borg are the single greatest villains in “Star Trek,” and are every bit to “Star Trek” what Hydra is to the Avengers. The Borg are a race of half-machine cyborg people, whose minds are all enslaved to one collective Hive Mind. Their goal is to assimilate the entire galaxy. On “Star Trek,” we’ve met several characters who were assimilated by the Borg, but later escaped, and struggled to reclaim their humanity. It happened once to Captain Picard; he was assimilated, and forced to wipe out an entire Federation fleet, under the influence of the Borg, before he was rescued by the Enterprise. On “Voyager,” Seven of Nine--formerly Annika Hanson--was assimilated with here parents at age 6, and wasn’t rescued until 18 years later. She spends four years on the show regaining her humanity, wrestling with the guilt, and coping with the trauma.
Borg-Bucky can tie into Trill-Tony this way. Perhaps a previous Stark host was assimilated along with his entire family by Borg-Bucky, and somehow, the Stark symbiont was rescued and able to move into a new host. Since this is "Star Trek,” it’s also perfectly believable for that massive plot line to get abruptly dropped and never mentioned again. (Sorry, I’m still salty about that...)
Wanda Maximoff: Ocampa, from Suspiria’s Array
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another one from “Star Trek: Voyager.”  The Ocampa are a race of telepaths, but how powerful they are depends on which sect they come from. Centuries ago, another race called Caretakers (a race of super-intelligent blobs) accidentally turned the Ocampan home-world into a desert. One Caretaker kept a bunch of Ocampans underground on their dead homeworld, and provided for them. Being dependent for so many generations caused their powers to weaken, until basic telepathic conversation was all they could do.  But the other Caretaker, named Suspiria, took a few Ocampa lightyears away to live on a space station, where she encouraged them to exercise their powers to the max. Their abilities included telekenesis, and inducing spontaneous combustion in plants. These Ocampa were more sinister than the other kind. I think this would be as good a backstory as any for MCU-Wanda Maximoff. After nearly destroying the ship, she switches sides, and tries to tame her incredible mind powers, and only use them for good.
Also, Ocampans only live 9 or 10 years, and are fully grown by age 2. This could explain some of the confusion surrounding Wanda’s age, with characters treating her like a kid one minute, and a soldier to bring into battle the next.  This is another one that’s vaguely similar to one of my OCs, though my Ocampa character is almost nothing at all like Wanda. But, she is an Ocampa from Suspiria’s array.
Ava Starr: Human mutated by a freak transporter accident
Tumblr media
There’s an episode of “Star Trek: the Next Generation” where Lt. LaForge and Ensign Ro get into a transporter accident that essentially turns them into ghosts. Here, something similar happened to poor Ava Star, but she could sometimes maintain solid form, and was visible to others, even when phasing.
Her father was attempting to open a gateway to either the Mirror Universe or Fluidic Space, or some such other dimension, and it literally blew up in his face. He and Ava’s mom died, and they were the lucky ones.
Ava was then taken advantage of by Section 31 (basically the Federation’s CIA), and used for classified missions. And now she is just so done with everything and everyone, and just wants a cure.
Hank Pym: Eccentric scientist who rejects Starfleet
Tumblr media
There are quite a few of these in the world of “Star Trek” (Data’s creator, Seven of Nine’s parents). Some scientists just think Starfleet is too controlling, or corrupt, or they just hate people, or the writers just want an easy way for a scientist to be up to something Starfleet doesn’t know about.
Hank Pym was a prominent Starfleet scientist, until Howard Stark tried to steal his research. Pym quit Starfleet, and tried to find a place to settle to continue his research undisturbed. But his ship crashed on an alien planet. He almost died in the alien wilderness, until the planet’s dominant species--a race of super-intelligent insecticides--took him in and adopted him into their colony.
Pym now trusts neither Starfleet nor “Starks,” regardless of who the current Stark host is. The only ones he trusts are his faithful companions and minions, the ants.
Hope Van Dyne: Pym’s estranged, half-Vulcan daughter, who works for Starfleet
Tumblr media
Unlike Spock, she doesn’t try to mask her emotions and be entirely “Vulcan.” But she does practice lots of Vulcan control and sardonicism, to deal with her resentment towards her father for her mother’s (supposed) death.
Janet Van Dyne: Pym’s Vulcan wife, thought killed in a space anomaly, but actually stranded in Fluidic Space
Tumblr media
Fluidic Space is another dimension, where Species 8472 live (from “Star Trek: Voyager”)
Scott Lang: Lower-decks crewman who everyone thinks is gonna die a redshirt’s death, but turns out to be a badass
Tumblr media
And because he’s a dopey human who makes funny quips and is the butt of endless jokes, he will end up with the half-Vulcan woman who can’t stand him.
Peter Quill: Human, from the 20th Century
Tumblr media
Time travel is rampant in “Star Trek,” so Peter Quill’s character can stay pretty much exactly the same as he is in MCU-canon.
Nebula: Bolian, ex-Borg Drone
Tumblr media
Bolians are bald blue people, and.....that’s about all we know about them. Well, they supposedly are also all motor-mouths, but you know, stereotypes. Anyway, being assimilated would make even the chattiest person turn pretty antisocial.
Her eye-implant is also a LOT like Seven of Nine’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carol Danvers: Human-Q hybrid, Starfleet pilot
Tumblr media
The Q are among the most powerful beings in the Universe, as well as some of the most sinister. The main Q character we know on “Star Trek: the Next Generation” and “Voyager” has dealt at least twice with young Qs, who he was rearing with questionable methods. In the TNG episode “True Q,” Q mentors young Amanda Rogers (an orphaned Q raised by humans), in a way that is very reminiscent of Yon Rogg’s mentoring of Vers.   Is it possible for Q to reproduce with non-Q? Who knows, but since the Q seem capable of damn near anything, I don’t see why not. Though, if we’re keeping things close to MCU canon, then Carol may have been born a regular human, and only became part-Q after a bizarre accident.  In any case, she is no longer with the Q Continuum, and now fights for justice independently, or with Starfleet.
Peter Parker: Kid genius, except likable. The Anti-Wesley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During “Infinity War,” my friend said Peter reminded her of Wesley, and I said, “Never say that again, or I’ll beam you into a black hole.”  Anyway, Peter would be a kid-genius serving on a ship like Wesley (but likable), and like Reg Barclay, would end up becoming part spider, due to one of the many bizarre anomalies the ship runs into every week.
Tumblr media
If canon-Peter was enamored with Iron Man, just picture this Peter’s excitmenent upon learning that the chief engineer is a joined Trill, who has lived multiple life times, and all of the inappropriate questions he’d pester Tony with, like, “What’s it like to  die? What’s it like to die three times? Were any of your deaths really badass? Like, did you ever go out blowing up a Borg cube or get blown into space or something?”
“This is why some species eat their young.”
Tumblr media
Friday: Hologram
Tumblr media
In “Star Trek,” holograms--by the 24th Century anyway--look and even feel like solid, real people. Which begs some very disturbing questions about the fact that they’re created as basically slave labor. But Tony at least would never treat any of his holograms like mindless appliances to toss away, and if any of them wanted to leave he wouldn’t stop them.
Anyway, Friday is a hologram he programed after Jarvis was integrated into Vision. And she is a badass.
Vision: Soon-type android, with a hologram and alien technology mixed in
Tumblr media
Kinda self-explanatory, not sure what else needs to be said.
Thaddeus Ross: insane admiral
Tumblr media
Alongside doomed redshirts and and promiscuous male commanding officers, the evil insane admiral is one of “Star Trek’s” oldest and most treasured traditions. It does get to be a bit concerning after a while, that there are so many insane admirals in the Federation. Some fans theorize that Starfleet promotes bad captains to admirals to keep them off starships, figuring the occasional crazy admiral grabbing at galactic domination is better than a crazy incompetent captain every week. Whatever the reason, insane megalomaniac admirals plague Starfleet.
Thaddeus Ross is one such admiral. Previously leader of a fleet of starships, he was promoted to an even higher brand of admiral after the fiasco with Bruce Banner. Unfortunately, it turned out that giving this twit even more power was, shockingly, a bad idea.
If I think of more, I may update this. But I think these are the main ones I have AU ideas for.

Fighting Something Fierce [RP]
Tumblr media
(( Rating: PG-13 ))
(( Trigger Warning: Mentions and displayed symptoms of an eating disorder, crude language, discussion of death )) (( Genre: Slice of Life, Angst ))
(( Cast: Emmaline Ibori of @the-firetouched and Nobuyuki ‘Ichihiko’ Ienaka ))
Emmaline Ibori a hefty knock is heard on the door, followed by a muffled "It's me."
Nobuyuki Ienaka slipped shut the shinpo he was reading, going to slide it underneath the zataku to hide it. Perhaps a bit too far. . . he'd regret that later. With that, he rose, going along to get the door. "Ibori-san," he began with a soft smile. "So good to see you again. Come in, come in. I can make some tea."
Emmaline Ibori nods quickly, stepping in. She's more used to his politeness now, but it feels like a different thing entirely for her when it isn't around a bunch of people. She feels like a coarse pighair or something. The thought makes her blush a little orange. "Ah, yeah. Sounds good." She stuffs her hands in her pockets a moment as she steps in, as if afraid to mke his apartment dirty. "Nice little place you got."
Nobuyuki Ienaka shrugged as he closed the door. "You have my thanks. It really isn't much, but it was nice enough to afford on my salary from the okiya." Then, he moved away to head towards the kitchenette. "I was just reading an article about how to spot an authentic katana, compared to fake props made by tourist centers and scam artists. I think you would be interested in it."
Emmaline Ibori follows in nervously. The large pack is upon her shoulder once again, bearing within his gift. "...I would. Not that I got the...the, you know, fancy touch for something like that." Maybe one day. "Sorry I had ta leave the party early the other day...my Da called and he never does that. Thought he was dyin," she jokes flatly.
Nobuyuki Ienaka canted his head, pursing his chapped lips; he typically seemed more well-groomed. "I hope he was alright," he responded, just then looking down to Emma's shoes. ". . . ah, you can leave those at the door. Your boots, I mean. I'm trying to keep the wood quality and all so the landlord doesn't throw more of a fit than finding out I'm looking to get a pet snake!"
Emmaline Ibori looks down and curses herself lightly. She always forgets this rule...mostly because back home you're better off keeping shoes on..."Shit, sorry," she says, before hurrying to take them off. "Yeah, he was fine, just suddenly remembered I'd been out of the house a while." She shakes her head. The man tries, she supposed... She returns, shoeless. "A pet snake?" She grins a little at this. "I'll be honest, didn't peg ye for the type."
Nobuyuki Ienaka shook his head, smiling. The gesture made it more apparent that underneath his jaw line was puffy, but not exactly red. "Yes, I've been looking for a little creature to care for. I've thought, why not a snake? I've been really torn between a carpet python or a butterfly adder, but I may consider the python as it is less. . . dangerous, though the adders have good temperaments. Usually." He set a full kettle on the stove to boil. "They're beautiful in their own way, snakes. Elegant but capable predators."
Emmaline Ibori listens to this intently, but the subtle offness to his appearance begins to catch her eye, and she loses track of the conversation. She takes a few intent steps toward him before she realizes what she's doing. "You get into a fight recently?" she asks bluntly, before blinking and backtracking. "Er....not that it's my business otherwise but since I'm ye bodyguard I thought..."
Nobuyuki Ienaka 's brows furrowed in confusion as Emma came over, seeming genuinely uncertain where the question arose from. "No? I don't. . . I have you for that." The way he spoke, nothing seemed broken. Just irritated. Casually, he moved towards the table, though in passing it was apparent the area around his eyes had specks of red. Possibly broken blood vessels, but his makeup obscured some of it. "Come. I've brought your Starlight gift home with me, for safe keeping. It's fitting we make an exchange at the same time, no? Such is Starlight tradition, apparently. I've luckily found a chest to put yours in!"
Emmaline Ibori moves to sit across from him, which gives her time to regroup from her embarrassment. Something IS off, she can feel it, but Sterrwyda back home had beaten her over the head (lovingly) enough for outright stating someone who cared for their looks "looked tired" or something like that. So she sits and hoists her bag to the side as she reconsiders her approach. "I didn't," she says, sheepish. "Do you wanna go first or me?"
Nobuyuki Ienaka rubbed the back of his neck with his gloved hand. "Oh, goodness. . . I don't think you can take a chest home. . . maybe it wouldn't be so bad to open our gifts a day or two before Starlight." He shrugged, then going over to the nearby door. "Excuse me for one moment." He head inside to fiddle with something that sounded heavy. "O-Okay, close your eyes!"
Emmaline Ibori: "Heh." But she does close her eyes. If he needed help he would call right...?
Nobuyuki Ienaka head outside the room, his footsteps shuffling audibly as he tries to navigate through the doorway. "Okay, open!" His biceps are bulging while supporting the weight of the axe he was carrying. It was a refined, light-colored steel, pieced together at the handle with saurian leather. Within the head were elegantly constructed pattern; a dragon. "I've thought this was fitting enough for you. . . I do hope you like it!"
Emmaline Ibori opens her eyes and then nearly shoots to her feet. "Holy shit!" she says -- clearly appreciative -- as she hoists the axe in her hands. She feels its balance and its weight. "Ha! Wow...where did you find this? It's incredible!"
Nobuyuki Ienaka beamed with pride at Emma's reaction as he hoists the axe into her arms. "It's a secret," he cooed, "But perhaps Naldiq and Vymelli's made a special order for me. . . you know, dragons are a symbol of prosperity and good luck in the Far East. They are almost worshipped in Doma! I hope it brings you luck wherever the head lands so it strikes true. . . but I have no doubts with your talents."
Emmaline Ibori grins so brightly at Nobu -- it may be one of the few truly genuine smiles she's given in a long time. "...wow. I dunno what to say except thank you...I'm really honored!" She steps away to practice swinging it a few times. Ah. Nice. She turns back to him, smiling, though a bit sheepish now. "Heh, I should probably give you yours...though it uh...I got it in Thavnair cuz it made me think of...things you like." She clears her throat as she gently places the axe against the doorway near the exit, and then returns to the bag by the table. She digs a moment, and then pulls out a shimmery, sumptuous cloth...a gold and red brocade in the traditional style. She can't quite meet his face. "I'm...no good at this sort of thing but...anyway..."
Nobuyuki Ienaka placed his hands over his chest before going to take the brocade, running his fingers over it. "Oh, you really shouldn't have, Ibori-san. . . it's /gorgeous/! This is from Thavnair?" He looked back up to her again, his eyes bright, despite their puffiness. "I will have to commission this into a dress. Yes, that would be perfect. . . oh, and I know exactly what kind! Something long and flowing. . . oh, I can't wait! Something Hingan-inspired, with no collar or sleeves. . ." Abruptly, his gaze sank. "Perhaps with a shawl. . . I-I don't know if I could pull it off like that, but thank you. Really, thank you. It's gorgeous."
Emmaline Ibori: "Why not?" she asks, emboldened by his bright response to the gift. "You look good. You got toned arms. I couldn't wear that cuz I'd look like a chocobo in a blanket. But you'd look great." She seems legit confused by this statement. "I know you been a delight at the Onsen. Whoever this Johdi was or whatever."
Nobuyuki Ienaka touched his arms lightly with his right hand; the scabs on the knuckles made apparent. "Well, I mean. . . I think you're beautiful." His eyes shifted away. "I-I mean. . . I just do what I can for work. Just enough." A little more quickly and in a softer voice, he'd added, "Besides, I've broken up with Johdi."
Emmaline Ibori scoffs a little when he calls her beautiful, mostly out of instinct, but she gets the feeling he means it more than other people would and blushes. Still, he seems thrown off enough...and the admission regarding Johdi alongside with the scabbed up hand has her concerned. "...did it go okay?" She takes a moment and rubs her temples. "Look. I'm real bad at this, so, sorry, but...you seem...I dunno. Did she upset you real bad?"
Nobuyuki Ienaka set the staff of brocade down on the table. "It went fine- she accepted it great. W-We're still friends, I just. . . I'm not upset." Out of nowhere, his tone became accusing. Irritable. "I'm perfectly fine. Why do you care?" Currently, it was like someone else had taken his body. He'd felt that way, too. He was scowling, but his eyes shimmered slightly.
Emmaline Ibori recoils slightly at the sudden change in tone. Immediately, her mind centers and clears, as if about to enter a fight, and her hands clench -- but when she scans the situation, she realizes it may not be a fight at all. More like...she'd poked the nest, went a little far. Maybe he was right. Maybe she was stepping where she shouldn't. But she glances to the axe by the door. He cared, or he wouldn't have made that, right? She's not an idiot, and fairness is important to her. Equal exchange. So she thinks about it. Turning it over and over in her head in thick silence, watching him, until a dawning of something darkens her eyes. "It's my job, for starters," she says, real calm like. "And I ain't an idiot or a fool or you wouldn'a hired me. I also don't pry none else if you don't want. But...I..." She extends her hands out, before letting them slap to her sides again. "I just see what I see. Pretty flower fightin' somethin' real fierce."
Nobuyuki Ienaka recoiled slightly as if in disgust. Likely at his own actions rather than Emma's. He was tempted to blurt out that she wouldn't understand, but the root of it all, the start of it all. . . she'd probably could. "It's not that bad," he instead tries to insist, turning his face away from reality. "Sometimes I overeat. I don't. . . I can't become overweight. Then. . ." Then nobody would want him anymore. "The geisha at Sanjo Hanamachi-- they only cared because I was a 'pretty flower'." His eyes scavenged the room, searching for an answer that wasn't there. Only his father would understand him. ". . . you're angry, aren't you. Just like my mother was." He pushed the brocade further on the table and took a few steps away. ". . . maybe it is time for you to leave."
Emmaline Ibori raises her hands as if to show she had no weapons in this fight. "I ain't mad," she says, and her tone is truthful. "I ain't. I just a bit of...a chocobo in a glass shop? Never was good at keeping out of where I don't belong. If I think there's trouble..." She rubs the back of her neck. "...I'll leave if that's what you want. I din't come to upset ye, Ichihiko, honest." She clears her throat. "Ichihiko-san."
Nobuyuki Ienaka | People needed to stop becoming what they believed would make Nobuyuki approve. That was his job and his alone. Slowly, he turned, his feet padding lightly against the wood as his arms hung by his sides. "No. . . it is unbecoming of me to throw you out. I. . . I shouldn't do that. I'm sorry." He faced Emma. . . and bowed. He kept it for a while. "I can't stop making these mistakes," he stated. "I shouldn't burden you with them. . . I'm sorry. . ."
Emmaline Ibori squints at this in mild confusion. They were bouncin 'round like a marble on a shaky road, as Sterrwyda would say (also confusingly). But she felt that to be right. "What mistakes? You din't do anything 'cept get pissed when I step into not-my-business, which is yer right." All this about saving face -- it did not yet compute fully with her.  "I jus'..." She scowls. It's kinda amusing on her face in this context.
Emmaline Ibori: "I'm yer professional bodyguard, aye, but if you need help I can probably fit you in on the off hours. If ye needed." A gruff woman's bad attempt at saying that she cares.
Emmaline Ibori: "And...'scuse my language, but fuck 'em. Wear the dress. Eat what you want. Who's gonna tell you what to do now, the Gods?"
Nobuyuki Ienaka remained in place. A droplet of water fell from one of his eyes and landed on the corner of the table, reflecting light in that spot. "That. . . is the problem," he responded. "I feel so empty. . . I just eat. It fills me up until I get sick. Even when I'm not, I /make/ myself sick. Nobody. . . nobody was ever supposed to know." His eyes squeezed shut, still not looking to Emma, even upon rising. "It was supposed to be my burden my bear! I don't understand. . . why would you make time for someone pathetic, like me?" His hands rose to cover his face, like a child hiding from the truth when they've gotten caught.
Emmaline Ibori steps forward, hands hovering outward. She remembers enough at least to know that Hingans have Rules about this sort of thing, and its likely weird enough to be crying. On top of that, she's truly horrible at emoting like a normal Spoken being. She frowns heavily as he discusses his unfillable emptiness -- a problem she is not qualified to fix -- but when he turns the question upon her, she is unable to stop a mild 'heh'.
Emmaline Ibori: "Why ye think I'm still a freelancer after all this time?" she says. She smiles, but its self-effacing. "I ain't smart but I know meself well enough. I'm..." She looks away, gathering up her words. "...always lookin' for somethin' that ends up not bein' there. It's easier to freelance than pretend I'm part of something." She says nothing else about it, but this clearly has hit some core aspect of her. "But...fuck. Sometimes you just need a fuckin' friend, ya know? And like I said. Not too smart. So I always end up stickin' my nose in too far." Her tone is lightened -- perhaps to make him laugh.
Nobuyuki Ienaka slowly removed his hands from his face, revealing streams of black makeup running down his swollen cheeks. ". . . even if I'm not an exciting friend. . ." he replied, his shoulders slumping. "I don't go and fight pirates like you. I just talk to them until they get so drunk they're pissing in places they shouldn't be." He almost managed a smile. A teeny tiny one. "I appreciate it, but. . . I don't know what to do. Ever since Father passed. . . I haven't found someone who understands me the same way."
Emmaline Ibori: "Fightin' pirates can also get old," she says with a smirk. "You can damn trust me on that. I ain't fixin' to go to sea for a minute after my last job...but. Anyway." She leans back a little and crosses her arms over her chest, huffing mildly as she observes him. "Even seafarers sometimes have ta...stop. Everyone's got their thing. I'm not a good talker, Ichihiko-san, ye know that. I can listen. And...maybe you can find something that helps. Someone good at listenin' maybe."
Nobuyuki Ienaka worked with his fingers warily, looking down at the calluses. "I'll. . . I'll think about it," he replied, resigning his previously defensive stance. Just then, the kettle screeched, causing Nobuyuki to rush over, running eye makeup and all, to take it off. "Ah, right, tea. . . hey. . . do you. . . would- can you stay a while? For the night. I-If you have nowhere to go and that's alright with you." He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. "T-To. . . I feel safer that way. For myself."
Emmaline Ibori blinks at this but after a long moment, she nods. "Y-yeah." She swallows down air around the uncharacteristic stutter. "O' course. I got nothin' but time. Not delivering somethin' to Ul'dah for another day or two. And I can sleep like a rock anywhere. It'll be funny." She smiles and approaches to offer her assistance with the tea. "...have you ever worn a big hat with a dress? Like a big sun hat? I seen ladies wear that sometimes..."

BTS Members as the Sons of Feanor
OH MY GOSH WHAT THE HECK
so @thelonelybrilliance just showed up late to the Silmarillion and new to BTS and she decided to break my brain by tagging me and @abadpoetwithdreams asking us if we could match up the 7 members of BTS with the 7 sons of Feanor. May she never ask such a question again because I have spent about 6 hours total writing this rant essay that is somewhere of abouts 3500 words. I don’t have the self-control to stop myself from things like this, I love Tolkien and BTS too much
anyway here is a very long and rambling post that was partially composed in my head in the shower and is now just stream of consciousness
(Disclaimer: The members of BTS are beautiful souls and this post is in no way saying that they are as murderous as my problematic faves the sons of Feanor)
ok so the only thing I know for ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN is that Namjoon is Maedhros. if you know anything at all about BTS and the Feanorians, the reasons are obvious:
1. Namjoon is the tallest, and Maedhros is literally called Maedhros the Tall.
2. Maedhros has a lot of names but he was called Maitimo by his mom which means “beautiful” or “well-shaped one” and such an appellation is perfect for Namjoon (ok let’s be real the name could fit every single member of BTS but whatever)
3. (and most important!) never was there a more harried elf trying to keep his brothers in line and alive and not cut to pieces by some justifiably insulted cousin or Sindarin. Maedhros is the mom, the dad, the king, the leader, the eldest bro. “Guys, can we NOT be rude to the sons of Finarfin, can we NOT start a war among the Noldor when we still have Morgoth just across the way” I’m pretty sure he would also lose his passport multiple times if Middle-earth had such things, because his brothers are hard enough to keep track of. while Namjoon may not be the eldest in years, everything else matches up too perfectly. He is the leader of BTS, the spokesman, the one who encourages the other members to step up and speak, helps them with their English (even when he judges them for their dumb mistakes lol), is literally SO DONE with his bros all the time but loves them so freaking much. He is the planner, the peace-maker, yet also has fire in his veins and has seen a lot of darkness and suffering and survived to become even stronger. So too with Namjoon
(caveat: if BTS were Feanorians, and Namjoon captured by Morgoth himself, there is no freaking way they wouldn’t have done SOMETHING to rescue their fearless leader. Jin and Jungkook would storm Thangorodrim fists swinging, followed by Jimin and J-Hope, fierce like you’ve never seen them, and Taehyung would Luthien Tinuviel Morgoth centuries early, or Yoongi would simply glare at Morgoth till he shrank down into a puddle of trembling goo. Don’t laugh at me you know I’m right)
moving on
I have maybe two choices for Maglor? One is Jin, but that might partially be because everyone always talks about how Namjoon and Jin are the mom and dad or dad and mom of BTS. and Maglor is always paired in my head with Maedhros as the other parental figure of the Feanorian bros, though that might be because of how he and Maedhros look after Elrond and Elros. Of course, I love Jin’s singing and I will never ever ever be over “Epiphany”, so I am way cool with making Jin Maglor as far as the music thing goes
All this said, I am not sure if this is the best fit overall. Jin is the King of Chaos in BTS, and I wouldn’t name Maglor as such...also I think I might have another Feanorian for Jin, but I’ll get to that later (spoilers, it’s...Curufin??!) (oh no, I just realized I might have one other argument for Jin being Maglor: “I use other people to make myself happy. I make myself smile by making others smile.” Like, that could be a good quote for Maglor potentially, if you want to relate it to his music, or his care for Elrond and Elros……..but I’m still thinking Curufin for Jin. Stay tuned)
So anyway my other option for Maglor would be...oh heck no I have two other options. No wait THREE. What the HECK. ok let me figure this out. The options are J-Hope, Yoongi, and Jimin. I’m not even sure why yet so let’s find out. (sidenote: if Maedhros did not exist Namjoon the song-writer would be Maglor, as the greatest poet and bard)
1.  J-Hope as Maglor: I don’t know, I had reasons but they are escaping me. Maglor is said to have had a gentler temperament than his brothers and I would say J-Hope has a very soft sunshine heart. I guess one thing is that Maglor was left to hold everybody together when Maedhros was captured by Morgoth, and if Namjoon was ever hung on a cliff for an indeterminate amount of time or whatever equals that in our world, J-Hope would step up. I keep seeing things about how he supports the other members when they are having tough times, giving them encouragement and food and love. He leads them in practicing dance choreography all the time, and if I remember I am pretty sure Namjoon actually stated that Hoseok would make a good group leader.
Also one time Namjoon was talking about Hobi (oh shoot, should J-Hope of the many names be Maedhros of the many names? Lol maybe in that one universe where Namjoon is Maglor, then Hobi could could be Maedhros) Namjoon says that J-Hope is like water (where did Maglor toss his Silmaril again hmm?) and puts people at ease. Well idk about other people but Maglor seems to have put Elrond and Elros at ease because even after that whole Kinslaying thing “love grew between them as little might be thought.” I too would probably come to love J-Hope no matter the past between us. He is just that sweet and soft-hearted
2.  Yoongi as Maglor: ok honestly I really really actually want Yoongi for Caranthir, more on that later. However I also like Yoongi as Maglor because it is unexpected, yet certain things just feel right. I keep thinking about Yoongi’s “First Love” where he raps about how his PIANO was his first love (GOSH ISN’T THAT THE SWEETEST THING EVER) also in Lee Sora’s “Song Request” he raps this: “I’m happiness to someone and the soul to another / A lullaby to someone and at times a noise / I’ll be with you at your birth and your end / Remember we’re always together anywhere / I’ll always console your life / So just lean on me and rest sometimes” and LOOK I JUST DIED TYPING THIS but what I am getting at is music is burnt into Yoongi’s soul as I think it is Maglor’s, and Yoongi really is very soft and loving and also one time Namjoon said that Yoongi “makes me ponder about what kind of person I am” and Maglor several times is a voice of reason and very much tries to dissuade Maedhros from going after the Silmarils one last time. Idk it could work (but also...CARANTHIR) (BUT ALSO OMG YOONGI’S VOICE MURDERS ME WHEN HE RAPS AND HIS PASSION WOW AND NOW I AM PICTURING MODERN DAY MAGLOR RAPPING  OBLIQUELY ABOUT HIS FAMILY AND PAST AND PAIN UGGGGGGGHHHH
3.  Who was my other choice? Right, Jimin. Why did I say Jimin?? ? i don’t remember, dang it
Ok I think it is definitely time to do Caranthir.
As previously stated, I love Yoongi as Caranthir. I have my reasons personally I think they are very good reasons :D Ok Caranthir is WOW ok I am OFFENDED because I just went to double-check something on wikipedia and I typed Caranthir into the Google search engine and the first three results were all about this Caranthir dude from the Witcher, and while that game seems very interesting I am UPSET for Yoongi’s I mean Caranthir the Dark’s sake.
AHEM
Caranthir the Dark. What a name. I mean it might just be a reference to his father-name of Morifinwe and to his hair, but he is also described as being the harshest and quickest to anger. Yoongi, bless his soul and his actually very soft and squishy heart, is well known for: being unbothered by BTS general antics, for being the one to sit back and watch everyone else do dumb stuff (like when they were all dancing to MIC drop and he just walks away from them, or when they are all acting like kids jumping in the pool and he just watches with a smile on his face while drinking a glass of wine and look to me Caranthir is the one Feanorian who doesn’t pair up with anyone in particular, like we have Maedhros and Maglor, Celegorm and Curufin, Amrod and Amras, but Caranthir is the one who goes off and lives separate from them and
GOSH now I sound so dumb because I am NOT trying to say that Caranthir doesn’t love his bros or that Yoongi is a loner that is NOT what I am saying, agh I mean Caranthir is great (minus, you know, the kin-slayings the Feanorians sadly fall into) and even befriends Haleth’s people and protects them, t’s just this weird categorizing thing in my head, that Caranthir is the crusty brother, and while he loves his bros to DEATH and they him, the majority of his bros are sliiiiightly afraid of him, in a brotherly way, like how the members are with Yoongi! Like just recently oh what was it, they were on a BTS Run episode and someone had to splash or otherwise give Yoongi a penalty and right away everyone was like NAMJOON YOU DO IT. turning to the leader hyung because they don’t want Yoongi to be mad at them
Of course now I am remembering that one post of gifs demonstrating how Jungkook is the only one who can bother Yoongi without dying lol except NOW I am picturing Amrod the youngest Feanorian* being the only one who can bother Caranthir and then the ensuing PAIN because Amrod Umbarto (thanks for THAT name, Mom) perishes (in certain canon) in flames at the Burning of the Ships and wowwww no I do not need any of this pain
*SIDENOTE: AMROD IS THE YOUNGEST IN CERTAIN CANON WHICH CONFUSES THINGS A HECK OF A LOT SEE THE AMROD AND AMRAS SECTION BELOW
I’m pretty sure I have never rambled so much in my life and also pretty sure I have way too many parentheses and not all of them are closed oops
Anyway, imagine Caranthir as the brother you are afraid of but would die for and who would die for you if anyone looks at you wrong, the brother with the wry acerbic wit, but who LITERALLY LIGHTS UP THE UNIVERSE WITH HIS SMILE AND ALSO DOESN’T EXPRESS HIS LOVE ALOUD AS OFTEN AS SOME OF YOUR BROTHERS DO BUT
HE SECRETLY LOVES PHYSICAL CONTACT AT TIMES AND ALSO SECRETLY LOVES PIGGY-BACK RIDES EVEN THO HE PROFESSES TO HATE THEM AND GIVES OUT WISE LIFE ADVICE TO HIS BROS AND HIS PEOPLE AND IS SUCH A SOFTIE FOR HIS BROS AND OCCASIONALLY SENDS ONE OF HIS BABY BROS LONG LETTERS WITH A SIMPLE “I LOVE YOU” AT THE END THAT HAS CELEGORM OR AMROD CRYING FOR TEN MINUTES (HAHAHA GUESS WHO I THINK TAEHYUNG WOULD BE)
Also someone has to be the best cook of the Feanorians and it might as well be Caranthir
….apparently I’m not done with Caranthir, because “the Dark” also makes me think of a dark horse, or at least something happening that is unexpected, and that reminds me of that interview where dad/mom/interpreter Namjoon was like yeah none of the other members can speak English, and then Yoongi just out of NOWHERE speaks a line of great English and Namjoon was like ….guess I was wrong
OKAAAAY WHERE ARE WE
I do not have very clear thoughts about who the rest of the members are so let’s just go with my brain and hope it makes some good connections
Let’s do Celegorm since I just mentioned him
Celegorm could be either Taehyung or….Jin? :? Merrr idk. Let’s examine
I think the main reason why I jump at the option of Tae for Celegorm is because of Tae’s love for his dog Yeontan, or Tan, and of course Celegorm is the master of Huan, and they had a very special relationship for ages until Celegorm f---ed up. Seriously, you want to see something cute? Look up Tae’s Vlive that is entirely focused on his lil pupper (what am I saying look up ANYTHING about Tae and you will find something cute)
On the other hand Jin could be Celegorm because Celegorm is known as the Fair and if you don’t know by now that Jin is World Wide Handsome I don’t know how I can help you
OMG WAIT I JUST THOUGHT OF OTHER REASONS WHY JIN COULD BE CELEGORM! So Celegorm’s father-name is Turcafinwë, which basically means “strong in body” and Jin has got those broad shoulders (gosh they are so broad). Also, Celegorm’s mother-name is Tyelkormo, or “hasty riser,” referring to his quick temper and habit of leaping when angered. And this doesn’t perfectly relate but the amount of times I have seen Jin yelling or just being wild in general or even just pretending to be mad makes me think of this. Also there was one time idk what was even going on but Jin was struggling to pronounce Bangtansonyeon-dan (SAME) and saying it was too long and difficult and J-Hope was teasing him and Namjoon told him not to get mad since he had been calling himself a fairy and shouldn’t be mad as such, and Jin was like hey I can be a mad fairy if I want lol
See now I am just confused because now I am looking back at Jin as Maglor and I might like that better? WHY IS THIS SO HARD
Speaking of Jin, and Celegorm, why on EARTH was I thinking of Jin for Curufin? Ugggh see my problem is I ran out of time last night and so I am finishing the essay some 20 hours later and I kNOW that when I was saying Jin should be Curufin I had a better reason then their names rhyme. Heck, I could make that same argument for Jimin as Curufin.
Except I also have a second and better argument for Jimin as Curufin, at least under the circumstance where Taehyung is Celegorm. Look, all the BTS members are really close with each other, and you can literally argue all day about who is closer to who (a really pointless waste of time in my opinion I mean why argue when you can just melt over them all being sweet and funny and kind and teasing with each other) but anyway all that aside one thing I love in particular is how sweet Jimin and Taehyung often are with each other, holding hands and comforting each other and being on teams in competitions *starts laughing at the memory of them being complete disasters that one cooking show* and anyway Celegorm and Curufin seem pretty inseparable, running around causing all kinds of trouble (guys sTOP). Jimin and Taehyung have called themselves soulmates, so it makes sense to have them be part of a duo
Not that Taehyung would engage in a kidnapping stunt like Celegorm did, but the point is, Jimin, the precious bby, has Tae’s back
Jimin: “Taehyung is the happiest when he is with me” aww
This has nothing to do with the point of this post but I just need to stop here and say that Jimin is so freaking talented I was just looking up some gifsets of him and obviously his singing is angelic but also OMGGG his dancing!!!
Ok, jumping back slightly, I guess one way Jin could be Curufin is if Jungkook is Celegorm, because I could see those beautiful dorks running around causing all kinds of trouble, except I really have no reason to have Jungkook be Celegorm, especially since he is very much Amras in my head for reasons
OOOH NO I also thought of a way in which Jungkook could be--wait for it--cURUFIN. WHY AM I LIKE THIS
You see, Curufin was his dad’s favorite son and thus Feanor gave his favorite son the exact same father-name Feanor had, Curufinwë, and Curufin is the only son who chose to use his father-name over his mother-name if I recall, and anyway all meaning he probably loved his dad a lot and was proud of his name, and this makes me think of how Namjoon gave Jungkook the title of the Golden Maknae and of how freaking much Jungkook looks up to and respects Namjoon (look while Namjoon is a hyung, he is also a dad figure, so he may as well be Feanor and Maedhros both)
I guess if Jungkook were Curufin, Jin could go back to being Celegorm
Aaaaggggh you do not know how much hair I have pulled out this is taking a lot of brainwork
FINALLY AT THE LAST TWO
We now present my exceedingly confused ramblings regarding the twins Amrod and Amras. Before we begin, let me SHAKE MY FIST AT TOLKIEN FOR MAKING THIS ESSAY EVEN MORE CONFUSING TO WRITE
See, I had Jungkook all set up in my head as Amras, the youngest son according to the Silmarillion. Jungkook is the maknae, the baby, and all the members DOTE on him and he loves them and respects them and pesters them and it’s great, so yeah Jungkook has to be Amras the baby of the Feanorians. I would then put Taehyung as Amrod, the just barely older bby who the other members also adore and protect. Jungkook and Taehyung are SO FREAKING CUTE whenever they are doing stuff together, whether it is singing or hugging or holding each other on their backs while they singing. When they goof off together or pester each other, they are the most precious, must dorkiest dorks to ever be my faves. Hence why I pair them together in my head as Amrod and Amras, at least the times when I am not pairing Tae with Jimin or Jungkook with Jin. Amrad and Amras seem as inseparable as Celegorm and Curufin, and they go off and live in some beautiful wild part of the land and basically stick to hunting and staying out of everyone’s business until they get reminded they took a stupid oath
EXCEPT then Tolkien has one alternate writing where the youngest is actually AMROD and Amrod dies at the burning of the ships because Feanor doesn’t know how to count his kids I guess (Namjoon you lost something again) (sorry that is a terrible joke) (but is it made slightly better by the fact that while Namjoon is apparently Feanor he is much more Maedhros, who was against the burning of the ships and did not participate?) so like this is where I started to get my third headache (exacerbated by the fact that I haven’t eaten dinner yet and it is 9 pm what is wrong with me) because then I have to make Jungkook Amrod and Taehyung Amras. It’s such a trial having to write both their names next to both Feanorians
On the other hand, an interesting thing to think about is that in this alternate writing, Amras was so aggrieved by his brother’s death that he called out Feanor--Feanor!--for being so dumb as to A. call or let his wife call their youngest by the name of Umbarto (the Fated) and then to B. accidentally let him perish in a fire that FEANOR started because he had a grudge (and I think Tolkien wrote that that Amrod was possibly sleeping on the ships because he was upset with Feanor for the terrible deeds he was committing, so like, double way to go Feanor)
I am really tired and hungry my head hurts
What am I missing?
I like Taehyung and Jungkook best for Amrod and Amras a lot BUT if I were doing one of the other options above, I could see having the follow lineup:
Jin=Celegorm, Jungkook= Curufin, Jimin=Amrod, Taehyung=Amras
In this instance, I could see Jimin and Tae as either Amrod or Amras no matter which one is older. Taehyung could definitely be the bby and do his own thing but could also be the brother who mourns his brother and calls out Feanor. Actually though Jimin while being young and precious gives me more of an older brother vibe than Taehyung does, so I guess I would have Jimin be the elder of the twins. Yes, that makes more sense
UGH but wait if I put Jimin and Tae as Curufin and Celegorm, I could put Jungkook back as youngest bby Amrod or Amras, but would Jin fit into the older twin role? Maaaaybe, if you just think about Jungkook and Jin heading off by themselves and goofing off...I don’t like it as much though
Possibilities So Far
Maedhros: Namjoon, maybe J-Hope?
Maglor: Jin, J-Hope, Yoongi, maybe Namjoon
Caranthir: Yoongi
Celegorm: Taehyung, Jin
Curufin: Jimin, Jungkook
Amrod: Taehyung, Jungkook, Jimin
Amras: Jungkook, Taehyung, Jimin
……………………….
I have spent five minutes now trying to figure out possible final line-ups but it’s all a mess
I  LITERALLY CAN’T THINK ANYMORE
I DECLARE THIS ESSAY/RANT HAS COME TO AN END
PLEASE CHELSEA SEND HELP!
WHAT AM I MISSING/HAVE WRONG? IS THERE A BETTER SPOT FOR J-HOPE? SHOULD SOMEONE ELSE BE CARANTHIR? COULD JIN BE A CARANTHIR IN SOME WAY?? (I THINK I COULD HAVE THOUGHTS ABOUT THAT BUT I AM TOO TIRED TO THINK THEM)

OC’s as Inquisition Companions
Name: Ariel Grace
Race / Class / Specialization: Human / Archer, then must switch to daggers or sword/shield when her glasses break/are broken / Tempest (or Ranger, if we’re allowed to use other game’s specializations…)
Gender Identity: Female; she/her
Varric’s Nickname for them: Pixie
Short Bio: Having grown up with fantasy stories and playing games to escape her ever-mediocre life back home, she was very familiar with Dragon Age. Impressively so, by some people’s measure. Now, she’s here and she has no idea what to do about it. She finds that she has to relearn how to read and becomes ill often because she has not encountered the diseases of Thedas. Another curiosity is that she appears to either reflect or absorb magic, essentially making her immune to both offensive and defensive/restorative magic. She is able to expel it as well, but it often comes out as a different element than was used on her and is hard for her to control in the beginning.
What would their companion card look like?
<<Death Tarot>>
Recruitment Mission: It is an optional war table mission. It’s next to Haven on the map and is simply a notification from Solas about having gotten notice from scouts of an unusual rift. And that he needs to see them as soon as possible. If you choose to “Go to” you will go outside and towards the dungeons and Solas will come up dragging a bound Ariel with him.
Basically, she appears near Haven and is found by a scouting party before you decide to look for help from either the Mages or Templars. She’s taken to Haven’s dungeons and interrogated by Cassandra and Solas. Mostly Solas. He brings her to the Inquisitor to have them decide what to do with her, citing that she seems to have foreknowledge of the world, but he cannot place how she came there or even what she is. You will have the option to allow her to join the Inquisition or to kill her. If you don’t choose the mission, she will simply starve/freeze in the Haven dungeons.
Where would they be in Skyhold / Haven?
In Haven, she would be near the mines area you fall in while escaping or in the clinic, being treated.
In Skyhold she’d be in the library, with Varric in the hall, by the stables talking with the horses or with Dagna (if you recruit her) in the Underforge.
Quest 1: <<TBD>>
Quest 2: <<TBD>>
Quest 3: <<TBD>>
How to get their approval:
Help “the little guy” (aka people that are down on their luck and need help, beggars, slaves seeking freedom, etc.); Be curious, since she very much wants to know everything she can (if she doesn’t already know about it from the codex entries); Be snarky to nobles or those that are snarky with you; help/be nice to your fellow companions.
How to get their disapproval:
Protect nobility at the expense of those beneath them; turning a blind eye in exchange for gold; flirting with others if you are in a relationship (with her or anyone else); being abrasive when you could have saved people by being diplomatic/clever.
Are they romanceable?
Yes! By men and women, (race gated against dwarves and qunari - Sorry! T_T) but you will need to go VERY easy on the flirting for a while if you’re a lady. She’s not had a physical relationship with a woman before, but is open to the idea.
Can you have sex with them?
Only if you’re on friendly terms; none of this ‘rivalmance’ nonsense. If you’re on her blacklist, she’d rather stick some acid on your lips than kiss them.
Are they open to polyamoury?
Only if it’s talked through and everything is out in the open. She will be very upset for quite a while if you just randomly decide to add another person. And she will be VERY hesitant to join an already established relationship because she needs reassurance that she’s worthwhile.
If they can be romanced and are not will they begin a relationship / relationships with other characters? If so, who?
If Cullen isn’t being romanced, she’d probably start one with him. She’d be there for him during his lyrium withdrawal episodes and sing him back to sleep when he woke.
If Zevran was there and not romanced with the Warden, she’d go for him; same with Fenris not romanced by Hawke.
Who are they friendly with?
Varric is her best friend (except the Inquisitor, if they’re good to her).
The Iron Bull and she get along well; he’s curious about her and likes teasing her.
She likes reading those smutty novels with Cassandra and encourages her so she can “practice reading” ;P.
She and Cullen will be all but kindred spirits in temperament and will get along well; she invents a potion that tastes like lyrium to help his withdrawal (like a kind of placebo). She will also question him about his views on mages and remind him of how he used to talk about them. She wants him to really grow as a person, not just be forgiven for who is was and no follow-up made.
Dorian and Ariel have a kind of love-hate relationship, since he loves to tease her/play flirt and enjoys her easy-to-blush nature far too much. Still, she respects him for trying to change Tevinter and since she spends a lot of time in the library they’re near each other a lot. They often have discussions he has a hard time stomaching about his homeland (usually regarding slavery).
She respects Josephine but the Antivan is very confused by Ariel’s venomous reaction to nobility considering her background.
She also respects Leliana’s abilities but they argue over the Chantry and faith when either topic comes up.
She both likes and hates Cole. She appreciates that he helps people and often asks him to help her help people, but she hates when he reads her.
She likes Blackwall and they often discuss his past (after she reveals she knows) and she encourages him to just atone as Blackwall. She affectionately calls him “Dad” because he reminds her of her father and often gives her fatherly advice, especially about combat.
Who do they dislike?
She knows what Solas wants to do and she hates him for it. They often argue about it, as she’s trying desperately to change his mind. Still, he helps her manage her odd abilities and helps her deal with her odd relationship to the Fade.
Though in goal/opinion they are very similar, she dislikes Sera. She sees her as little more than a snotty brat with a vicious temper and a deplorable liking for “pranks”.
She dislikes Vivienne on principle, as she’s a noble in every aspect and enjoys that life. Eventually, she comes to respect her and it is somewhat mutual.
Cole’s reading:
“Thoughts… so much. Home. It’s not a game anymore. I can’t say it. What’s the point of knowing… if you can’t change it?”

(If neutral) “Our Inquisitor needs us!”
(If low approval) “You can’t give up!”
Greeting(s) / Goodbye(s)
Low approval:
“What do you want now?”
“Yeah, you go have fun elsewhere. I’ve got actual work to do.”
Neutral approval:
“Do you need something?”
“Okay. Bye then.”
Friendly:
“Oh, hey! What’s up?”
“Let me know if you need anything else. I’ll be around.”
Romanced:
“O-oh. Uhm… hi!” o///o
“Hope you can spare some time for me later. I’ve… really missed you.” >////>
Opinions on mages / templars / how the world is going to shit?
She’s very much against mages murdering people to retain their freedom, but she is equally against all the abuses that templars had heaped upon them to bring them to this point.
She thinks the rebel mages could be brought to heel and likes the idea of them creating the College of Enchanters, outside the Chantry’s influence, and wants all mages to be free but to be taught how to control their magic and punished appropriately when they do not.
She knows the Templars are useful, but doesn’t like them as an order controlled by the Chantry. She wants them to be disbanded and made into a separate type of guardsman everywhere so mages could live as normal people but still be brought to heel if they went all abomination or killed someone/manipulated them with magic.
She knows what created the breach so she has to keep her mouth shut about it and thus doesn’t like talking about it.
Something guaranteed to make them leave the party?
If you help slavers, take a bribe to turn a blind eye or kill innocents.
                                          Imprisoned at Redcliffe
How is your OC holding up in Redcliffe, being slowly infected with red lyrium over the course of a year?
She heaves this incredibly dramatic sigh when she sees the Inquisitor. Basically just says, “FUCKING FINALLY, GET ME OUT OF THIS CELL.” She’s not infected but it’s been trying for so long that she’s weak as all hell from it stealing her energy.
                                                      The Fade
How they react:
Awe and nervousness. She dreams of this place but the interactions are all different. She is normally protected by spirits, who found her first as she slowly mastered her ‘gift/curse’ and became visible to the other denizens. She may have several whisps following her about as you wander, as they recognized and found her, but they are scared and weakened in the Nightmare’s territory.
Their tombstone:
Being Nothing but a Burden
What fears look like:
Goliath Tigerfish
“Okay, this is fucked up. I know this is the Fade and the laws of normal existence don’t apply, but still! You need water to swim, not air!” ~points accusingly at an approaching nightmare~ “Stop snappin’ your jaws at me you assholes!”
What the Nightmare says:
“And here is the talk of the Fade. The anomaly. The stranger in a strange land.” ~deep, booming laughter~ “Your spirits cannot save you here, child. I have long wondered what kind of creature you would become were I to claim you…”
OR, if romanced:
“Ah, the anomaly. Do you truly know what will happen here? I will tell you, since you crave knowledge. Your beloved will die and I will throw you back to suffer. Wilt away in your guilt and despair. You will feed me and my brethren for years to come, wallowing in it until it is all you know… just like your father.”
Hawke or Warden:
She understand the reasons for both
There will be a minor approval drop for choosing the Warden (large if it is a romanced Alistair)
If Hawke romanced Fenris, there will be a major approval drop
If Hawke romanced anyone else or remained alone, there will be a minor approval drop
The Wardens - Exile or Allies?
Again, she understand the reasons for both. Only a minor approval drop for exile and minor approval boost for making them allies.
                                                     Halamshiral
Where they linger:
If she’s not romanced she’ll probably be near Cullen, engaging him in conversation in order to help keep the “suitors” at bay.
If she or Cullen is romanced she’ll be seeking shelter with Varric and tells you to hurry up so she can get the hell out of this viper’s nest.
Are they good at the Game?
She could be, if she wanted to be. She knows how she just hates using the skills she was brought up with as a child of an upper-middle class family back home.
What people say about them:
(if neither she nor Cullen were romanced)
“Why must that homely girl take up the Commander’s time? Doesn’t she realize her betters need to speak with him?”
(if the Inquisitor romanced her)
“The Inquisitor keeps such homely company… I can’t see why there are rumors about them. She is unremarkable and abrasive.”
“Who is that mouse beside Master Tethras? A fan of his work?”
Gaspard, Briala or Celene?
Briala and Celene together! Always. OTP. Major approval boost for this option.
She’ll give a minor approval boost for Briala blackmailling Gaspard or Celene ruling alone.
Will have a major approval drop for allowing Gaspard to rule alone.
                                                Temple of Mythal
Rituals or Hole?
Ritual. This is their place and you must respect it. Plus, she knows that you’ll get there before it’s too late even if you take the time and knows how to do the puzzle.
Agree with the Elves’ bargain?
YES. She hates having to kill anyone if there’s another way… unless they’re assholes. Abelas kind of is, but not enough to justify being killed. Plus, it’s easier to get where you’re going if you accept and she will be taking photos of the murals and stuff you find along the way for safekeeping/inspection later.
Morrigan or the Inquisitor for the Well?
She leaves it up to the Inquisitor if they’re not involved.
If romanced or if they are friends, she will tell the Inquisitor that they really don’t want to take it in and to let Morrigan do it. “It will be helpful… you just don’t want the burden. Trust me.”
                                                    Trespasser:
Depending on who she’s with, she’ll have done different things.
If she was romanced by the Inquisitor she’d be busy helping with the Inquisition. Creating new tools/helping advance medicine for non-mages as well as mages/trying to recreate basics from home like running water that anyone can install on their houses. She’d go with them to the Exalted Council if asked and will be able to tell them about what’s going on if they asked/wanted to know. She could also be told to stay behind and use her knowledge of the attending nobles to help Josephine.
If she wasn’t romanced by the Inquisitor and Cullen wasn’t romanced, she would be assisting him. She would have expanded her making of the placebo to give to all the Templars that wanted to be off of lyrium. She will likely have also worked with advancing medicine and providing basic improvements to people’s lives. Again, if asked, she would attend the Exalted Council. If not, Cullen will likely ask her to come just to help him retain his sanity. He will ask her to marry him there, as he would have the Inquisitor. She would happily find the Inquisitor to let them know and tell them they need to survive so they can all meet up again for a proper party and feast for the wedding when they get back to Ferelden.
If Zevran was around she’d help him in dealing with the Crows and set up a library where she takes in and “homeschools” recruits that he liberates from the Crows. She’s soon surrounded by children and is unable to attend the Exalted Council. Before she left the Inquisition she acquired a pair of sending crystals so that no matter where she was the Inquisitor could get a hold of her if necessary. She will advise them on what to do if they ask.
If Fenris was around, they’d travel about tracking down slavers and eventually attempt to lead a slave uprising in Tevinter. Since, by the end of her tale she’d be a powerful proper mage she could do reconnaissance in full view and not be thought much of. She would have given the Inquisitor one of a pair of sending crystals to keep in contact and would offer her knowledge if asked during the Exalted Council. In Tevinter, she tips off the right people and kills those that won’t help and then Fenris inspires slaves to rise. She’d meet Dorian on his way back and chuckle, saying, “time to put out the fires and start again. I did the easy part. The rest is up to you.” She’ll probably get hit for that.
I’ll probably add more at some point. Still can’t decide about her side quests... so that’ll have to wait.

The best way to permit the ground of your respective property look new and stylish
Prior to starting your inside style project, consider your spending plan. You will find numerous other ways to go about finishing one project, and if you already know your finances, you are going to use a superior idea about wherever to get started on. Contemplate the expense of provides and labor, and afterwards build a price range that works for you.
An awesome inside design idea is always to start off investing in good art. You may not consider much of art or treatment over it in the least, but a person little painting can pull a complete home with each other. A painting may offer you a starting issue of where to begin decorating with other items.

When considering an interior-design undertaking it is best to imagine about beginning within the most popular place from the dwelling. Inside layout might be both equally a great deal of labor and value a whole lot as well. When you need to obtain the most from your work and revenue, you'll want to embellish the place that you'll appreciate the most initially.
When picking a color palette on your space, use not more than a few hues. When decorating, follow the 60-30-10 rule. 60% on the area ought to be described as a dominant color, 30% a secondary colour, and 10% an accent shade. A lot more than 3 colors might make the place begin to glimpse chaotic.

For those who program to sell your house sooner or later within the potential, try out to work with bland colors when redecorating. If you think that interior layout suggestions never just appear to you, get concepts yourself. Many towns have decorated showhouses developed by inside designers to help you the general public achieve insight into planning. 7/31/17
I’m going to try this again.
Maybe I’ll make it more sporadic than daily. That’s easier to keep up with.
Maybe it will just be when I feel like I have something to say.
Maybe I’ll combine it with my journal, which I optimistically placed on my nightstand last month and haven’t touched since, except to move it over to make room for my book.
Maybe I should just overall have fewer rules for myself.
So today I’m thinking about how to be less anxiety-ridden and more peaceful. In the midst of everything going on.
My boss said something to me that resonated during our review. Something along the lines of, “You’re quick to say ‘I tried this, and it didn’t work out’. Even if you tried it, and it didn’t work out, constantly being negative over something is like a self-fulfilling prophecy: you think it won’t work and then it doesn’t, but what if you adjusted your attitude to say ‘Let’s try it’?”
So it’s like a chicken and egg thing: is my life stressful because I have anxiety, or do I have anxiety because my life is stressful?
I want to try Matthew’s “manifest what you want” approach.
So I will try my hand at freelancing even though I think it won’t work.
I’ll try my hand at publishing, even though I think it won’t work.
I can’t return entirely to the rose-colored days of my youth, and it’s not that I want to, but I can pull back some of the cynicism that’s come over my in my 30s.
Reality and optimism: it’s about striking a balance, like so many things (maybe all the things) are.
So in the spirit of optimism, I want to find some more calm in my life, even though I’m not sure I can. I miss my spirituality; my attempts at daily gratitude.
Today I am grateful for the following:
- The ocean was warm yesterday and the sand was more pebbled than I’ve seen it in years and Shannon’s kids have the best enthusiasm and I love that John loves it, too.
- I enjoy the book I’m reading (Vicious, by V.E. Schwab) even as I remain jealous of its author for being a better writer than me at a younger age. Maybe jealous isn’t the best word, as it implies negativity; I’m envious of her success but I’m also so grateful that beautiful writers exist because I enjoy their words so much.
- I restricted myself to 7 drinks this weekend and plan on keeping to that this week, though we’ll see what Thursday brings.
- John Green’s boat taking on water metaphor because that is how I feel and because he said it so eloquently I feel as though this is ok. Also, he has another book coming out, so there’s that.
- The sound of the suburbs at night. Crickets and darkness. I can’t wait for my own house.
-I’m glad there are still things to look forward too even when our glory days are behind us. Like houses. And older children with some self-sufficiency who don’t screech at every little thing. And having a big kitchen where I can invite everyone over and use all my fancy new dishes.
- Writing “fancy new dishes” just really reinforced how absurdly lucky I am with regards to all the people in the world. But feeling shitty for feeling shitty given my privilege has never helped me or been productive in any way, so long as I continue to put things into perspective. I’m allowed to have worries. Remember that.
- Jamie Beck’s Instagram is so pretty. I want to be friends with her but I can also enjoy following her without being insanely jealous. For the most part.
-I’m going to write to Extraordinary Routines and see if she wants to employ me. First I should look up writing a pitch...
- Thanks to Shannon I know I am a melancholic with equal parts sanguine and choleric temperaments. Well, according to that one test. I like knowing these things. It makes me feel like the things I sometimes think aren’t great about myself aren’t my fault, or at least, more widespread than just in me.
- I love writing words and I love that I love writing words and I love that I have the ability to write words.
So thank you God for all those things. I hope you exist.
Wow, such rambles. But this is a space no one reads, or at least, very few people read, and it’s anonymous, so I’m really trying to keep it real.
Maybe I can end each day with a quote?
No: remember, fewer rules. But if you feel so inclined:
“I find I'm so excited that I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at a start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.
Will I write again tomorrow? I hope so.
