Enneatype 9 summarised!!

Core type- Passion: sloth. E9s are extremely lazy when it comes to figuring themselves out, in fact, they’re more active when it comes to avoiding this. Fixation: indolence. They're also rather lethargic when it comes to their feelings and needs, and so, not allowing themselves to do what they’d most desire. Trap: seeker. They seek outside of themselves to what can help them from their problems, running from themselves. Defence mechanism: narcotization. To avoid being uncomfortable and keep their self image of being harmonious, they narcotize themselves to stop any negative, intense or painful emotion. Virtue: action. To overcome this laziness, the e9 has to learn to take action in what they love and who they are. They must learn to experience their essence. Key traits: Over-adjustment and merging, resignation, easygoing nature/affability, indecision.

Subtypes- Self preservation [sp]: The sp9 merges with things like routine and physical comfort. These routines can be anything, as long as they feel their painful thoughts and feelings are being suppressed by them. They can hold more grudges to others and obligations when they don’t fit their routines, ‘you asked me so now i don’t feel like doing it anymore.’ Sexual [sx]: Sx9s have the tendency to merge too much with someone else, often to the point they lose their entire sense of self. This makes it hard for them to notice what they don’t and do want and need, when they do they’re often scared to express these needs and so continue to suppress. Social [so]: So9s are extremely active compared to the other subtypes. They merge with groups and think that they need to work hard to obtain and keep this status in their social circle. They can even look similar to e3s at times, the difference is that they truly strive for acceptance of the group and a sense of belonging instead of material success.

Contradictions-  INFP, INFJ, INTJ, INTP, ENFP, ENTP, ENTJ, ENFJ, ISFP, ESTJ The most important misconception in these contradictions are intuitive types. This is due to psychological interia (concretism, lack of openness, etc), robot habit-boundness (bound to custom, regularity and tradition), distractibility (oversimplification of inner and outer world and laziness). All this directly contradicts intuition's main focus on abstraction, creation and overcomplication. E9 is also widely regarded as incompatible with Fi dominance, this is particularly prevalent in narcotization, being the deadening of feelings, while Fi values their emotion most. E9s also tend to lack communication about themselves, which is strange considering Fi being occupied with their self identity and expression.  Types you might want to look into if you are on this list are e2, e4, e5, e6 and e7.

They can be more outgoing and social. 9w8s can express their anger a bit more comfortably than the typical 9 - but it's only if they find it absolutely necessary. After all, they still do not want to cause conflict. This fear can clash with 8's intensity.

The 1 wing adds a perfectionistic and moralistic character to the 9 core. They prioritize fairness and harmony, much more people focused. They are more reserved and calmer compared to 9w8. 9w1s try to see all sides of a situation but will still try to choose the right answer in the end.

When 9s disintegrate to 6, they become fearful, anxious, and insecure. They can feel overwhelmed and as a result, can be defensive and passive aggressive. They can very indecisive during disintegration and rely on others to make decisions for them. A disintegrated 9 can complain a lot and blame others for their issues.

Integration: 3

When 9s integrate to 3, they become more motivated and energetic. They learn to be more bold and assertive. They actually try to live life themselves instead of living it through others and letting opportunities slip by. Integrated 9s are more confident and action oriented.

- Sp 9 -

Sp 9s are most concerned about physical matters such as eating, sleeping, reading, and any other activity to satisfy their physical and psychological comforts. They want to keep a simple routine in life since it already gives them peace and fulfillment. Any type of disturbance to their routine can be upsetting. These comforts help make their life feel complete, which is what they seek most in life. Since they're often so reserved, they can be very passive to other things in their surroundings. They can ignore and dismiss things that demand their time and energy. This results in passive aggressive behavior. Lots of repressed feelings as well.

- Sx 9 -

Sx 9 wants to fuse with others. They build strong bonds with others to achieve a sense of comfort in them. Can be overly dependent on the other person for a sense of identity. This subtype blends in with the person they're with, rarely stating their own opinions - they will naturally go along with the other person's passions and desires. Sx 9s may struggle with asserting personal boundaries. This type is the most gentle and can appeal to others through their softer charms.

So 9s prioritize the feelings and needs of the group over their own. They will put up a happy front in order to avoid burdening others with their own issues and needs. They just want to bring peace and joy to others' lives. It makes them happy to care for others. They may make themselves smaller though in order to not appear bigger to others. So 9s just want a harmonious and peaceful environment and will work hard to achieve that.

Enneagram and Autism

A lot of autistic behaviours are describing the Withdrawn triad, verbatim. What enneagrammers call the "Withdrawn triad", psychologists call "autism". This is especially true for high-functioning autism.

The type which overlaps THE MOST with autism, I believe, is sp9.

This isn't to say all autistics are sp9s, or that all sp9s are autistic, but that you cannot find an sp9 in the world who isn't at least somewhat suspect for autism.

The ritualistic behaviour and preference for objects / things over people, believed to originate from early childhood neglect. I read a Wikipedia article once which described how *insert list of sp9 behaviours* is caused by unloving mothers. Very interesting and relevant to me, to say the least...

i was (…am?) a lil insane growing up, like ok, I have memories of telling everyone in my kindergarten class that santa wasn’t real and wouldn’t care if they cried, bc they HAD to know the truth like, how could santa deliver those gifts in one night? why does he only give gifts to kids in america/ with enough wealth? You can still love the specials, and the holiday, the characters of the santa mythos, but believing a lie told by adults just didn’t sit right with me. also bc my parents told me he wasn’t real lol. (listen. my mom grew up very very poor. My grandma told my tias and tio that Santa wasn’t real, and only existed for the gringos with money jfkfkfjf) so. yeah my religiously zealous ass is the preface for even more religiously zealous stuff

so I grew up as a conservative christian girl that read the bible like a storybook every night, but I also have memories of questioning everything, it drove everyone crazy. I would hound my pastors after service with new questions someone my age wouldn’t usually have? I knew they thought it was kinda annoying if not mildly cute but I needed answers for every goddamn thing. Easter traditions bein one of them 😅 Now, I was raised very traditionally, as in, we examined good friday and went to a long Easter service and then, that’s it. Eggs, Rabbits were worldly, and had nothing to do with Christ, and tbh the most my fam enjoyed was the after church carne asada and the trip to walmart the coming monday to get discounted candy to munch on thru summer lolol. But I asked my classmates and teachers at school like at what point did easter become abt eggs? so if you’re not christian then, what exactly are you celebrating? You’re just doing elaborate stuff to eat candy. what’s the true purpose of the bunny? where did this originate? and everyone was like, just paint ur damn plastic egg for class Cel, you’re 6. 😂😅

Well that’s done and over with and I’m completely sane now. Also I did not paint and properly prep my first easter egg and participate in an egg hunt until last year with some friends and it was cute lol.

Hi, I was just wondering, my sister is an ISTP and an e9, does this contradict? I'd like to hear your opinion on this and other alternatives if they do contradict. ty!

Unfortunately I do think it does.. ISTP and specifically sp9 are kind of seen as a grey area though, and I wouldn't bat an eye if I saw someone type as it. But in general e9 - aside from possibly so9, which isn't compatible with ISTP regardless - is irrational. When using mbti on its own, this isn't a big deal, however when you start getting into systems such as Jungian and socionics it gets more complicated. I've mentioned Myers-Briggs’ confusion when it came to perceiving/judgement before, and it really comes back here as well.  In general I would say that it really depends on how you go about typology. This is not a criminal contradiction, and if you're not planning on going much deeper than mbti and enneagram, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are, however, I'd recommend looking into sp5 especially, or alternatively sx6 or ISTJ.

I remember a while back you said that ennea 3s often think of themselves as not being good enough to be 3s when typing themselves (or something along those lines). Also saying that if you're struggling to find your MBTI type, but are considering an extroverted type, then you're probably extroverted because most introverts wouldn't even consider potentially being extroverted, whereas the other way around is much more common. Oh and also that most ennea 6s sort of deny their 6ness when initially seeking out their type.

Do you have any other neat little bits of self typing advice along those lines? As in, any other fun little quirks in how different MBTI/ennea types end up typing themselves?

I got maybe a half an hour left in me and then I'm crashing.

Hmm. General thoughts from human interactions of late:

1s... don't seem to mistype as much as other types, but if they do, it's often their wing. There's a big difference in their stacking, the basics summed up as -- if I am the problem and need to self-examine and correct myself, it's sp-first, and if you are the problem, it's soc first.

2s... usually mistype as 4s, and will insist upon being a 4 because it appeals to them to be "creative," while thinking it's basic human kindness to be nice to people and do kind things for them all the time ("doesn't everyone do that? it doesn't make me not a 4! I am an unselfish 4!" <- super ego thinking). If your brain is full of shoulds, you are not a 4.

3s... may think that they aren't successful enough to be a 3, because they are idolizing 3s and their productivity or achievements; but there is an inner lacking and emptiness that makes them less emotional and more objective than the other heart types, less in touch with what they want to do, as separate from what others expect from them.

4s... do not comment places and go "omg, so relatable!" or "omg, you are so right about me, this is totally me!" They hate having anyone identify with them or think they understand what it's like to be a 4. They aren't going to identify with you, find anything in common with you, or allow you to think you have accurately interpreted their work. They are frustrated cores, ergo not "sweet." They can be nice, and deep, and wonderful, but they are not eager to find other 4s.

5s.... watch and learn but rarely participate. I recently saw a (likely mistyped 6) inviting 5s in an online group to come together, meet other 5s, and form a community. All the 6s mistyped as 5s eagerly took part, but the real 5s left crickets in their wake. It was funny.

6s... will argue from every possible angle and come up with the most unlikely explanation and examine it ruthlessly while insisting it's true, ask leading questions hoping to get the answer they want, and mistype as literally everything other than 6; if you tell them they are a 6, they will doubt, challenge, and question that ad naseum. They do not win arguments so much as wear down their opponent into exhaustion. I should know. I do this. :P

7s... oddly enough can mistype as 4, but they take traumatic personal experiences and instead of making that part of their eternal brokenness, they gloss over it and tell you how "strong" it made them and turn it into a personal triumph story (re-framing x 10,000). (If you do not believe me, watch the "sexual 4" on Chestnut's 4 panel, and you will see a 7 core with a 4 fix basically doing just that, ahem).

8s... do not give two f*cks. They ignore or block what annoys them unless there's a 6 fix involved like Emeka.

9s... are a lot more stubborn, moralistic, and argumentative than most of the descriptions allow for. I've seen them get on people's cases quite a few time -- so do not think that because you stand up for yourself or tell off someone online for their bad behavior or "stir things up" that it disqualifies you from being a 9. It also surprises me how loud their secondary fix (especially 6 or 4) can be, because of their tendency to merge their agenda into their second fix.

I know it's not as "fun" as maybe you were hoping, but maybe it'll be interesting / insightful nonetheless.

Sx is not about being passionate, creative, or interesting.

Sp is more "hook up culture" than sx.

Social is not about groups; it's about communication.

You can actually tell stacking from photos and from people's writing style. Although I am just learning about the former...
