Reseña de Los siete maridos de Evelyn Hugo

Hola querides, para celebrar el día internacional de la bisexualidad (23 de septiembre) voy a darle la reseña del libro de Los siete maridos de Evelyn Hugo escrito por Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Evelyn Hugo es LA celebridad más cotizada por todo Hollywood desde su espectacular carrera como actriz hasta un cuerpo que era la envidia y deseo del público por décadas, pero lo más importante fue sus infames 7 matrimonios. El sueño de cualquier periodista es de conocer a detalle lo que sucedió en cada una de esas relaciones. Y el sueño parece cumplirse para Monique, una reportera novata de la revista Vintage. Evelyn esta lista para decirlo todo, y descubrir sus lados más vulnerables y feos para todo el mundo.

Me encantó el libro. Una de las cosas que amé y probablemente lo volvería uno de mis libros favoritos del año es la complejidad de Evelyn. Fue muy satisfactorio leer a un personaje que aceptaba las consecuencias y no “esperaba la mejor”, si no entendía los riesgos y escogía la ruta más segura y efectiva para ellos. Los personajes son muy carismáticos, aunque tengan sus fallas, terminas esperando lo mejor para ellos. A la vez me gusta que retrata a personas discriminadas (mujeres y homosexuales) encontrando lugares seguros en tiempos extremadamente violentos para ellos. La narración te atrapa con la astucia presente de sus personajes, sus deseos egoístas y una reflexión sobre la dualidad de las personas, reconociendo constantemente la humanidad en la otra persona y como una sociedad homofóbica y sexista moldea el pensamiento de otros.

Los aspectos que no me gustaron de esta novela son más personales, creo que la narración y el desarrollo de personajes es muy bueno. Pero no disfruté el va y viene del interés amoroso principal, entiendo su perspectiva, pero estoy más de acuerdo con Evelyn. Hay ciertas frases de parte de Monique sobre su problemas con ser bi-racial, y aunque es algo presente en personas bi.raciales, me sacaba de la historia por que recordaba que la autora es blanca. Son más que nada molestias personales, no tanto sobre las habilidades del autor.

Honestamente, me enojó este libro al final porque casi me hace llorar. Yo no lloró con libros y este libro casi me rompe. Culpó más a la película de Barbie porque salió al canción de What Was I Made For? cuando estaba leyendo al final, y esa siempre me hace llorar. Terminé muy encariñada y feliz de que este libro haya sido escrito. Libros con personajes así de complejos representado a mujeres, personas bisexuales y gente latinoamericana es un paso más a un proceso de sanar en aceptar diversas identidades y vivir en armonía.

5 estrellas. Voy a recomendar bastante este libro si quieres comenzar a adentrarte a lectura queer. Nota: Este libro es un buen inicio para empezar, pero no encapsula toda la literatura queer. Creo que voy a darle una oportunidad a Carrie Soto is Back y a Daisy Jones, y luego veo la serie. Díganme que les pareció el libro los que lo leyeron ¿Qué les gustó? ¿Qué no les gustó? Porque a mi me encantó y creo que me estoy cegando a las fallas ¿Cuál es su esposo favorito? El mío es obviamente Harry ¿Qué libros recomiendan que sean parecidos? ¿Qué libros les han encantando hasta ahora en 2023?

So, two days ago I got three more books, but in English. I'm intrigued by the first one more, but my eyes are catching "Jane Eyre" these days. Also I'm not sure whether I'm gonna start my 2023 with "Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle", because the fact that I started my 2022 with it is scaring. I've also start rereading "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, maybe I'll reread "King Lear" too

Review of Lost In The Never Woods

When I started reading Never Woods I thought it was going to be an action-fantasy book, and yes the book is action-fantasy, but it went another route that I didn't expect.

Let's give a brief summary of the book: Wendy Darling is a reserved and shy young woman who spends her time volunteering at a hospital. She only thinks about school and the hospital, her dream is to become a nurse to stay there. People feel pity for her personality, she used to be such a lively and happy person, just like her family. But after the disappearance of her and her brothers when they were children, she was never the same.

On the night of her 18th birthday, she did nothing special. She woke up, did house chores, went to the hospital, finished her shift, and went to her house through the woods where she was lost and found. Oh, and she ran over someone in the woods… IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. It was very dark, and no one goes to the woods after the Wendy incident. She goes to attend to the poor thing that she hit and when she sees him, she recognizes him. She has seen him before, she knows him, but her memory does not hold; he just sees her and whispers Wendy before fainting, Who is he? How does he know her? Will he be her answer to understand that he happened to her brothers and her?

This happens in the first chapter, maybe the second, and from there it doesn't stop being an exciting book. It maintains a steady pace of intrigue and suspense about what will happen to Wendy, the stranger she ran over, and other mysteries that haunt the town. I think Aiden Thomas grew a lot in his writing skills; If his first novel, Cemetery Boys, was for me a success in style, rhythm and character development, here it is simply a home-run. The characters are well-built, it has an attractive mystery with a very good resolution, and the dynamics between the characters are interesting and complex. I felt the end was a little quick, but it closed the book well and the conclusion it gives to the mysteries, I couldn't stand it. It shocked me.

I loved all the characters, and loved all the fairy tale retellings, but Peter Pan, ufff. They have a reserved place in my heart.

Lost In The Never Woods is a story of intrigue, action, fantasy, romance, and suspense. If you're chicken like me, maybe it's scary because the main villain in this story is intimidating. I'm going to give him 5 stars, it gave me what I wanted and more. Aiden Thomas is becoming one of my favorite authors.
