{ENG/FRE}
un poème, "la divinité, mon consolation" (a poem, "divinity, my consolation")
poem under cut :]
mes mains tremblent quand je te regarde
(my hands shake when i look at you)
(and i know that things could never change.)
pourrais-je le faire un peu différemment?
(could i do it a little differently?)
(could i have anyone but you?)
(i love to read, but i love you more.)
(i love the sky, but i'd rather look at you.)
(i count the stars, but i would count your touches.)
(and i love flowers, but i'd give them all to you.)
et serait-ce si étrange maintenant
(and would it be so strange now)
pour te tenir près de moi
(to hold you close to me)
et souhaite que cela ne change jamais ?
(and wish it would never change?)
est-ce si étrange maintenant
(is it so strange now)
que je pense à toi
(that i think of you)
et je pense à une constellation?
(and i think of a constellation?)
est-ce étrange que
(is it so strange)
tu sois mon premier véritable amour?
(that you were my first real love?)
le premier que je voulais non seulement
(the first that i not only wanted)
mais dont j’avais besoin?
(but needed?)
j’aime les mots sur une page
(i love words on a page)
(but i'd give all my words for you)
(and still i'd never glance)
(and they'd never be enough to describe you)
(take my hand and course your warmth through me)
(your smile is chemical, and i can't help but smile back.)
c'est addictif, sévère et incroyable
(it's addictive, severe, and incredible)
(and i love that i can give you that smile.)
(i can't help but wish that you were mine)
d'une manière que je fais toujours
(in a way i always do)
je n'agirai jamais en conséquence
(but i won't ever act on it)
mais tu ne le sauras jamais, cher.
(but you will never know, dear)
parce que les mots ne suffiraient pas
(because words would never be enough)
(and we have different definitions of insurance.)
(i can't do anything but look at you.)
(so say my name again, like you could know the truth.)
mon nom sonne mieux dans ta bouche
(my name sounds the best from your mouth)
et je parle mieux avec toi.
(and i sound the best with you.)

I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"
Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.
imagine this exchange happens between pages 28-29 in The Crab with the Golden Claws

Our Path ( February 2011)
(english version made: april 20 2023)
Life isn’t just a beautifully paved road
But we need to be able to pull through
All the times the rain, once fallen
Will transform our path into a challenge to overcome
We must not forget
That once the rain has stop
We can predict a sunny spell to come
That all this water will transform into greeneries
And landscapes of ethereal beauty
That everything will be in the past
We just need to be patient
Dark days are only there to remind us
How much the beautiful days
Are appreciated

Do you guys ever think about how Badrien just doesn’t talk. He’s absolutely silent the entire time when he doesn’t have his miraculous. Like when he was handcuffed on the ground he didn’t ever say anything. When Marinette asked if he knew her he just shrugged. Literally the only things I remember him saying was Plagg, Daggers Out. He only ever spoke to become Claw Noir.
But when he was transformed he was talking non stop. He was taunting everyone, his allies and his enemies, even by himself he just played with dolls and talked to himself.
And I just kind of think about this a lot

Last minute study for my French Literature exam ! (From my boyfriends balcony - my fav place to do work.) This semester we analysed Cœur du Sahel by Djaïli Amadou Amal and it was surprisingly my favourite read of this year :)
