A memoir I was read a while ago called First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung has been made into a movie. The book was written by a woman who survived Pol Pot’s genocide against Cambodia while she lived in an internment camp guarded by Pol Pot’s army, the Khmer Rouge.
Just sharing cause I feel like this is the sort of thing everyone should know about. Pol Pot was never even mentioned during any of my history classes. I grew up thinking people came to the US from Cambodia because they were poor. I only heard Pol Pot’s name mentioned once ever and when I asked who he was I was only told that he was ”a very bad man.”
If you don’t this about me already, I really feel like history is the most important thing in the world. And I think that we need to learn about how history to keep from making the same mistakes our ancestors made in order to prevent future tragedy. What Loung Ung lived through was a horrific tragedy, so I think everyone should know about it.
Public Service Announcement: There have been increased attacks against Asians in the U.S. and other countries, which is completely unacceptable! Here at Enlightened Beauties, we stand with our Asian brothers and sisters! Let us mourn the innocent lives lost due to anti-Asian hatred! End Anti-Asian Hate!! 🇯🇵🇹🇼🇰🇷🇻🇳🇭🇰🇹🇭🇵🇭🇸🇬🇱🇦🇰🇭🇨🇳

Made this image a few months ago and I feel like this is still very accurate to how I feel about "Beta Ambrosius was so much better!! We were robbed" take😬
(I'm speaking about the design/LOOKS specifically, not the character - campy Ambrosius from the novel is one of my favorite things abt the novel itself)
neil newbon also mentioned that, besides the feral cat that visits his house, another inspiration for astarion's physicality was the harlequin mask from commedia dell'arte, which i find very funny given astarion's canonical feelings about clowns
I think sometimes people HAVE to work with abusers because the industry is just so filled with them that you can't boycott them all or it's actually you who are being boycotted or jobless. But date? That too when she is already on this level. This was SOOOO avoidable and yet she willing chose him. Willing looked past all of his racism and what not and for what prize? Ratt Mealy?
yup, exactly
many up and coming female (and even some male) actors and artists find themselves with no other choice but to work with horrible men
recent examples i can think of is chloe bailey - a lot of people gave her so much shit for working with chris brown without thinking that she simply may not have had a say in who her record label wants her to collab with
as well as with the women who end up working with sam levinson, i doubt either sydney sweeney, alexa demie, barbie ferreira, hunter schafer or lily-rose depp enjoy having to be canvases that sam can paint his p*rn fantasies upon
but that being said taylor, the biggest pop star in the world, is definitely not being forced to do anything especially not date an absolute and utter shithead
this whole thing reeks of when taylor dated john mayer, a very obvious racist and misogynist but back then she was a child who just seemed to be so hopelessly infatuated with him who just couldn't see what was wrong with him
but now she's a grown thirty three year old woman and she's once again dating an obvious racist and misogynist only this time it's very obvious that she knows about the things he's done and she knows what her fans (and even just the general public) are saying about her - about them and she's just choosing to ignore it
and that isn't it, especially when she's choosing to stay quite about politics and social issues while working with people have done incredibly shitty things, traveling all around the world in her private jet whilst there's a climate crisis going on, and performing in states like florida and texas whose governments are doing everything in their power to the strip rights of women and the lgbt community
I love to read but I have a hard time finding book blogs to follow on this app cause I feel like everyone reads YA novels. Don’t get me wrong — there are some amazing YA novels. I loved To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and I recently finished Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas and I feel like its such an amazing, relevant book.
I don’t look down on anyone who reads YA.
What I hate about recent YA novels is how the publishing industry has turned diversity into a marketing ploy. Like just meh stories with a flat storyline get published even though they’re completely inaccurate or the story feels rushed because the author is queer or BIPOC. Like the publishers are trying to check off a diversity box.
It just makes the stories feel so fake to me. And sometimes like the author wasn’t even trying.
Its great if other people on Tumblr love YA but right now its just not a genre that I can get into.
white people are so constantly disappointing. its all "we support you and your struggle and we love you and we want you to feel comfortable with us!!!" until its just "why are you mad at us for doing something shitty? why can we not yell at you and degrade you and you shut up and say sorry?" we have to be so so perfect and if we slip up once or not take the fall everytime we are the worst. you dont treat your white friends or partners that way. dont we deserve the same treatment?
