Sometimes I wonder what inactive members of active Discord servers are up to. Are you shy, but still interested in what the server is talking about, still reading everything? Did you mute the server instead of leaving? Have you abandoned Discord altogether? Are you still waiting for your enjoyment of whatever the server's interest is to come back? Or do you simply enjoy watching others be passionate about various topics? Who are you, silent ones? Some of you I know and miss, some of you I've never had the chance to talk to.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of fandom niche people are sitting in. There are still LotR fans who've never heard about the LotR Musical! The biggest fandom accounts have posted news about it, it's been reviewed in the Guardian and other newspapers, and it's been around for So Long. I found it back in 2015 while looking for LotR things when I wasn't even into musicals yet.

How do people do it? How do you avoid it? Incredible.

The problem with online friends is this: you get to know each other and spend time together knowing that online activities and meetings are how your friendship is maintained, and that it's very unlikely you'll ever get to meet in person. And of course you're sad, and of course you wish it were different, but you accept it, kind of.

But then, when you've met them once, against all odds, it gets really bad because you miss them. And you know that you'll have to make an enormous effort to meet them again. It worked out once, so we must do it again. Somehow. We have to. We have to.

So many good things happened this week that I now feel empty somehow. It was too much all at once. Now I have this weird urge to leave all of my fandoms and never return.

I've been fighting this feeling of uselessness for a while, and now it's particularly strong. So many new recordings. So many problems solved. So many translations and transcripts.

Now my brain says, okay great, they're doing well, I can't do anything to help, I'm out, goodbye. My skills are limited, and once they're no longer needed, I'll leave.

I hate myself for being unhappy when I have every reason to be HAPPY. Somehow I'm not.

Sometimes I forget that I'm @lordoftheringsmusical and get all excited when a "new" post shows up in the tag. And then I realise it's my post and I made it two minutes ago.
