Violence does not consist so much in injuring and annihilating persons as in interrupting their continuity, making them play roles in which they no longer recognize themselves, making them betray not only commitments but their own substance, making them carry out actions that will destroy every possibility for action.
Totality and Infinity

varlık var oldukça ölür; ama hep kaçış düşüş halinde ölür. şeylerin yakınlığında durarak ölümden kaçılır.

I’ve admired oliSUNvia’s videos for a while, and this one is typically great. I think she’s younger than me too - I am in awe. This covers a lot of the same ground as my post on existentialism and Marxism, but with different influences, and is much more coherent and topical. 😂 She draws on Levinas to make the argument that we are ethically responsible to others before we are entitled to anything, and suggests that we lose sight of this online because we don’t have to see people’s faces react to us. Levinas is a strong influence on me too. (I haven’t read him first-hand, but he’s a key part of John Caputo’s Against Ethics, which is a really accessible book about nihilism, existentialism, and deconstruction).

Levinas'a göre Oblomov.. “Oblomov, kendisini her sabah usanç veren tavsiyelere boğan “yapmak gerekiyor”un ardındaki, daha acımasız ve cesaret kırıcı olan “var olmak gerekiyor”u algılar.”

i don't have a lot of memories of my mother but one thing she once said has stuck with me, as we were walking past a tall block of flats,
"behind each of those windows, someone is living their life."
and yeah. the sacredness there. levinas couldn't have put it better.

ölüm, son değildir, sonlandırmayı sonlandırmamadır. tıpkı, edgar poe’nun bazı hikayelerinde tehdidin gitgide yaklaşması ve güçsüz bakışın bu yaklaşmayı daima hala uzak görmesi gibi.
