Back from its two-year hiatus, this year's Øya Festival was better than ever. Since 1999, the festival has quickly become one of Olso, Norway's biggest music festivals, hosting such acts as Sonic Youth and Arctic Monkeys. This year, attendees saw four days of some of the biggest and most diverse names in alternative and indie. From Gorillaz and Bikini Kill to H.E.R. and Perfume Genius, relive each day of the festival's lineup with our photo gallery.

I think the first time I heard Daniel Herskedal must have been on Mike Marshall's version of "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" in the Last Black Man in San Francisco, though I didn't actually know Herskedal was on it until fairly recently. One of the distinctive things about Herskedal's music is his use of overblowing to effectively play a topline, so it makes sense that his style would work well for vocal music, as on Out of the Fog.

Björk ended up being one of the most important figures in pop music thanks to her immense curiosity her 'students' also have among themselves, they follow her a lot in that regard. Emilie Nicolas is another one of them, she even recently collaborated with her, though you can tell why, when you check her records. I'm sure Björk recognized a fellow passenger in Nicholas' opus, but we should see her as one of those that benefitted greatly from the peculiarities of the Scandinavian music industry. She cannot be called a pop star, yet the thing about Scandinavian countries is that they can find them a place. Still, the success of her debut confounds me. Why? Well, she continues to work despite the fact such a triumph could've harmed her in the long run.

I'm such a loser, can't keep anything, ah
I do whatever for my lover
But he slips through my tired hands, oh
I see it's clear we're over
You only get one chance
Feel Fine - Emilie Nicolas
