Happy 65th birthday to Derek William Dick, better known as Fish, frontman with the group Marillion.
Fish was born on April 25th 1958 in Dalkeith, first born son of Robert And Isabella Dick. His parents ran a garage and petrol station, where he worked as a pump attendant in his youth. He has a sister, Laura, 3 years his junior. He attended Kings Park Primary School and Dalkeith High School, in his childhood home town, just outside Edinburgh.. He left school; with grade A O-levels in History, Chemistry, English, Maths and Biology and grade B O-levels in German and English Literature.
In 1976 he started to work as Forester. In 1980 he quit and started a musical career. He joined a band called Blewitt and joined Marillion in 1981. After a year of intense gigging in the UK they got signed to EMI and released their debut album Script for a Jester’s Tear in 1983.
Their biggest hit singles were Kayleigh and Lavender in 1985 (from the number one album Misplaced Childhood and Incommunicado in 1987. Their other top 40 singles included Garden Party, Sugar Mice and Warm Wet Circles. In 1988, after touring their critically acclaimed fourth album Clutching at Straws he left the band to start a solo career
In 1987 he married Tamara, a model from Berlin who he had met during the recording of the album Misplaced Childhood and who appears in the music video of “Kayleigh”. Later she also appeared in the video of his solo single, A Gentlemen’s Excuse Me. They have a daughter, Tara Rowena Dick, born on January 1st, 1991. In 2001 Fish and Tamara separated.
Derek has also tried his hand at acting his first job was in Zorro, and he isn’t shy of having a bit of fun in his roles, playing “Derek Trout”, a record producer in the 1999 series A young person’s guide to becoming a rockstar.
The East Lothian-based singer has undergone spinal and shoulder surgery and suffered two bouts of potentially deadly sepsis.
In 2020 Derek released an album called Weltschmerz, and it gave Fish a surprise hit , but not a chart hit, his management say it would have been number two in the UK charts, well done big man! The album was entirely self-funded, marketed, created and distributed from his home in Scotland and because UK chart rules require distribution through official channels it was precluded from the official charts.
Fish also revealed in that 2020 he’s retiring from the music business — saying: “I don’t want to be 70 and singing Kayleigh on the chicken-in-a-basket circuit While I can’t see him doing the likes of Rewind, I would think he will still be releasing material given the success of Weltschmerz, it sold over 60, 000 copies.
Fish did tour Weltschmerz and celebrated the 30th anniversary of A Vigil In A Wilderness of Mirrors as part of the Vigil's End tour in 2021. The tour was documented on the live album Vigil's End Tour 2021, released on physical formats in December 2022 and digitally in March 2023.
Derek has filled stadiums and sold thousands of records around the world - but he is now preparing for the quiet life in the Outer Hebrides after visiting last year.
The musician has snapped up a 35-acre croft on Berneray with his wife Simone.
A recent report says a planning application has been lodged to carry out renovations at the couple's new home at Beasdaire, which overlooks a beach at the northerly end of the island. Dick, currently lives in East Lothian and told his fans during an online broadcast earlier this month the prospect of relocating to the islands was 'really exciting'.
The former rock star is a keen gardener and host of the award-winning Fish on Friday - a Facebook live-stream. On the move he says been watching programmes about farming on the islands and held Gaelic, which is spoken widely on Berneray, in high regard.
More details about Derek on his web page here https://fishmusic.scot/

The VERY Weird Version Of Big Bang Theory You Never Saw The best Big Bang Theory episodes understand exactly what the show is and is trying to be, but its original pilot did not. The Big Bang Theory used to be a very different show, and it certainly was not a good one. The original Penny was fired, cast members weren't written in yet, and the whole thing almost didn't happen. This is a look at the original Big Bang Theory pilot and how it went so wrong, that Penny had to be fired. 👇 📺 👇
youtube
https://www.youtube.com/embed/dXejBIaL9xg
To be fair, even in the final version, it still took a few episodes for the showrunners to know exactly what to do with Sheldon. Case in point, the very first scene, which is the two boys visiting a sperm bank! We know from later episodes that Sheldon, while not rich, is comfortable enough financially that he has thousands of dollars that he can loan Penny on a whim. And imagine a world in which Sheldon would touch himself for money! There is absolutely no possibility that the final version of Sheldon as we know him, would ever visit a sperm bank.
When people talk about the relationship between Penny and Sheldon (which I agree IS the heart of the show), they don't point out WHY the relationship works so well. It's because of ALL the guys on the show, Sheldon is the ONE guy who she doesn't have to worry about hitting on her. So she can let down her guard with him and that's what makes the relationship (and the show) work.
I for sure felt like the writers were initially going to make Leonard the star of the show, a sort of Ted HIMYM and with Penny as Ross and Rachel. I think they never expected audiences reaction to Sheldon's quirky personality. Sheldon went from being the sidekick to a lovable [although often annoying] character of the whole series.
I think you’re wrong on one point: I think Gilda was the template for Leslie Winkle. They’re both (from what you’ve shown) dominant intellectuals and wanting sex but not love from Leonard. Amy was extremely awkward and initially almost robotic. Then they changed her into a more “normal” but still socially awkward person.
Gilda is NOT AMY. Gilda is Lesley Winkle, who was in the first season. Amy wasn't even imagined until after season 2 and the writers have said that themselves. If you look at Lesley and Gilda you will see nothing but similarities. They are the same character.
I have seen the full original pilot and I had to watch it twice😳 simply because I could not believe how first incredibly bad it was and second how even more grateful I am for what we actually did receive. Oh thank you for stopping this first rendition before it was out there. I have as many millions of others spent many hours enjoying the only version of the Big Bang we will ever need.
The Big Bang Theory: Where Are They Now?
The Big Bang Theory was canceled over two years ago. Naturally, since that time a lot of things have changed in The Big Bang Theory actors’ lives. So let’s take a look at The Big Bang Theory cast and supporting cast to compare The Big Bang Theory then and now.
We are going to show you where are the Big Bang Theory actors now and in which shows and movies they perform. What Jim Parsons (Sheldon Cooper) is doing behind the camera and in which movies you can meet him? What did Mayim Bialik, who played Emy Farrah Fowler create to combine her favorite themes science and life? And how it is going in with Mayim’s acting career? Which heartbreaking story did Melissa Rauch (Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowits) learn and what is her next role in the new show?
Why did Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz) have to learn how to conduct an orchestra and in which beloved by critics movie you can watch him. For which role has Kunal Nayyar, who is known for The Big Bang Theory fans as Raj Koothrappali, received a nomination for a BAFTA, and how many talents does this guy have? How it’s going in Johnny Galecki’s (Leonard Hofstadter) personal life and why did Kaley Cuoco (Penny) divorce her husband? And if you want to know which shows and movies you have to watch to meet Kevin Sussman (Stuart Bloom), Wil Wheaton, Christine Baranski (Leonard’s mom Dr. Beverly Hofstadter), and Laurie Metcalf (Sheldon’s mom Mary Cooper), well we’ll tell you!
Who is going to be the main character in the upcoming sitcom? Who played a serial killer after The Big Bang Theory? Who had children and who got divorced? Watch our OSSA’m video about The Big Bang Theory Cast to find out where are they now and how Sheldon would react to the pandemic!
Chapters: 00:00 - Intro 00:26 - Jim Parsons 01:35 - Mayim Bialik 02:23 - Melissa Rauch 03:23 - Simon Helberg 04:25 - Kunal Nayyar 05:26 - Johnny Galecki 06:14 - Kaley Cuoco 07:19 - Kevin Sussman 07:46 - Wil Wheaton 08:26 - Christine Baranski 08:58 - Laurie Metcalf

STRANGELOVE albums: Time For The Rest Of Your Life / Love And Other Demons /Strangelove
Strangelove were an English alternative rock band, formed in Bristol in 1991 comprising singer Patrick Duff, guitarists Alex Lee & Julian Poole, bassist Joe Allen and John Langley on drums. They released three albums before they disbanded in 1998
Strangelove formed in Bristol, in 1991, after David Francolini (drums, of Levitation) spotted singer Patrick Duff, who at the time was a street busker. According to Duff, Francolini's words were "Get in the car, you're going to be a pop star." Francolini then got together various musicians he knew throughout the area; Alex Lee (guitar, formerly of The Blue Aeroplanes), Julian Pransky Poole (guitar, formerly part of The Jazz Butcher's band), and Joe Allen (bass guitar). With Francolini on drums, the quintet played their first gig at Bath Moles Club on 9 October 1991. Francolini took on the role of drummer for only two gigs, before being replaced by John Langley. The first song Duff wrote for Strangelove was titled "Zoo'd Out", in 1991, and released two years later as seven-inch Rough Trade single. Duff's tales of despair and sorrow struck a chord, and his impressive, emotionally charged vocals were described by Tom Doyle in Q Magazine's World of Noise compilation as "evoking thoughts of Morrissey as vocally-tutored by Scott Walker"
Following an early morning set on the NME Stage at Glastonbury 1992, the band were approached by John Peel to record a BBC Radio 1 session at Maida Vale, on 30 June. The band then released their first EP Visionary in October 1992 on Sermon Records, from which the title track was made 'single of the week' by Cathi Unsworth in Melody Maker. Another Peel session followed on 5 January 1993.
A second EP, Hysteria Unknown, in February 1993 earned them a support slot on Radiohead's Pop Is Dead tour. "Radiohead are definitely post-Strangelove," remarked Ed O'Brien. "We toured with them for 'Pop Is Dead' and we changed quite a lot after that. They were inspirational. Apart from their trousers."
Critical acclaim for the early singles led to major-label interest and they were signed to EMI label Food Records in 1993.  Strangelove released their first album, Time for the Rest of Your Life on 1 August 1994, produced by Paul Corkett, who would go on to work on Strangelove's later albums. Time for the Rest of Your Life made numerous top albums of 1994 polls, and brought them to the attention of Suede who invited them to support on their Dog Man Star European tour in 1995. Manic Street Preachers' Richey Edwards was also a fan, inviting them to support at the London Astoria on the penultimate gig before his disappearance in 1995. Edwards' bandmate Nicky Wire commented that Time for the Rest of Your Life "fits staring out of the window and watching the rain in a small valley town".  Suede and Strangelove bonded, and covered each other's songs at Sala Multiusos Zaragoza on 16 May 1995. Strangelove played Suede's "Killing of a Flashboy", while Suede played "She's Everywhere" (then under the working title "Spacey Vibe Thing"). Brett Anderson and Richard Oakes would later guest on this song in the studio, providing backing vocals. Love and Other Demons was released on 17 June 1996. The second single from the album, "Beautiful Alone", went to number 35 in the UK Singles Chart.
For singer Patrick Duff, internalised struggles and a heavy addiction to drugs and alcohol threatened to take his life. His battle with depression and excess were highlighted in one vaguely suicidal Melody Maker interview in 1994, and an aborted NME interview, during which he kept falling asleep due to drugs and alcohol in his system. After the second album's recording, Duff was booked into a rehabilitation clinic to finally kick his habit, and confront the demons within. He wrote about this difficult journey to getting clean for The Guardian in 1996: "I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. My personal life was now in tatters – and I decided my last chance was to throw what was left of me into our album. Something was left in me that wanted to do something positive. Thank God."[8]
By this time, Nick Powell had joined the band to play keyboards, expanding their sound. A third, eponymously titled album was released 6 October 1997. Written in Bethlehem, South Wales, and recorded at Abbey Road Studio Two, this album was seen as significantly more uptempo than previous albums with Duff choosing to write less directly introspective. Songs like “Superstar” and “Freak”, which were recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs, set the tone.
The album yielded another UK Top 40 single, "The Greatest Show on Earth", and sell-out shows at the London Astoria and Shepherds Bush Empire. However, seemingly on the point of a major breakthrough, Strangelove split up on 20 April 1998. In later interviews, Duff acknowledged how "unfocused"[9] he was on music while in Strangelove, that he could sense the band had run its course, and he needed to get away from the fast-paced life of touring to truly recover, and discover his calling as an artist. When asked about the possibility of a Strangelove reunion, Duff explains that while everyone in the band are still friends, and is not completely opposed to the idea, the chances of it are very slim. As a solo artist, Duff has played stripped down, acoustic versions of Strangelove songs, sporadically.
from Wikipedia
Strangelove were and remain one of my favourite bands of the nineties. Unfortunately, despite realising three beautiful albums, they remain incredibly underrated. I invite you to rediscover their albums and singles and be conquered by their music.

Is critical role a game or show, because your rbs have me very interested
Weeeeeell, technically it’s both?
*cracks knuckles* let me explain
Critical is a web series that you can watch on Twitch every or on Youtube, and it’s actually a campaign of Dungeons and Dragons. I assume that you’re at least a little bit familiar with D&D, it’s tabletop roleplay game and so technically, the actual show Critical Role is just a bunch of beautiful people sitting around a table and improvising a story together.
One of the things that makes it so popular is that the players and the dungeon master are all very famous voice actors, writers, directors and producers (Travis Willingham Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Matthe Mercer, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffy, Ashley Johnson and Emy Winner Sam Riegel). So these guys are very familiar with storytelling and very good at roleplay. They know how to tell a good story and how to create compelling characters. And more importantly they have all been friends (and married for some) for years, so they all have incredible chemistry. So although the idea of just watching a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors playing around a table can sound odd, it’s truly as captivating as most of the TV shows I’ve watched recently (if not more).
I’m really trying to explain (and sell) the concept the best I can because I get how it may not sound very appealing, but it genuinely is one of the best things I ever watched in my life. Matthew Mercer, the dungeon master guiding them through the story, is absolutely incredible. He has a crazy sense of details, the worlds and characters he creates for them are incredibly dense, rich and enjoyable, but also knows to leave a lot of room for the players to chose their paths and he really let their decisions influence the world and the story. Everything has consequences for the best and for the worst. The players are nothing short of amazing, they’re all deeply committed to their characters and to the roleplaying, you can really see some of them physically staying in character even when they’re not talking (Liam O’Brien you mad man ...). But like I said they’re also all very close friends and even family at this point, and their main goal is to have fun, so they also often react out of character just like us when something crazy happens, they get super excited or worried when Matt describes something and they have amazing fits of laughter.
Like my dude, this show made me cry and laugh SO MUCH it can be the funniest shit in the world one second and the most heartbreaking tragedy the next.
And honestly, the lack of proper “visuals” is part of the fun! There are official arts for the characters created by artists with the description and approval of the cast, but you can pretty much create and imagine whatever you want based on that! The fandom is incredibly creative and productive, people are always redrawing their favourite moments and characters from the show and because it’s only descriptions, there are as many interpretations as artists drawing them! There also many animations based on the audio from the show, for big tragic moments as well as for goofs and funny nonsense. And that’s not even mentioning the fics and the cosplay and all the other forms of art and content!
If you decide to get into it, I should still warn you that it’s very very long. There are two campaigns, the first one is complete with a total of 115 episodes of 3 or 4 hours each. Yes, hours you heard me. The second campaign is currently still going with currently 77 episodes of the same length, and new episodes every Thursday. I know it may sound scary, but I promise you that if you get into it, those hours will pass like minutes. It’s just ... so much fun!!!
Besides, they do a bunch of breaks every episode and so you can easily just pose the video whenever you want to come back later. Personally, I’m not at all caught up, I’m only on at episode 20 of campaign 2 and I haven’t even watched all of campaign 1 yet. So basically don’t stress out, it might seem like a lot but you can just casually watch at your own rhythm (and also just drop it if you decide it’s not for you!)
Personally, I started with Campaign 2 which has fewer episodes at this point and just a better overall technical quality than the first few episodes of Campaign 1. Many people who watched it all confirmed to me that it was a smart move and so I would advise you to do the same! Campaign 1 is amazing, but they had been playing it for a while before it became a web series so you don’t get to see the character’s introduction or to see them meet. I just feel like overall, it’s way easier to get into Campaign 2 from the start, and to then go back to Campaign 1 when you’re familiar with the cast! (Just my hot take anyway!) (Also Campaign 2 takes place 20 years after Campaign 1with completely different characters so you won’t miss anything except maybe some private jokes from the cast).
Basically, everything that I have been reblogging so far is from Campaign 2, so if that’s what got you interested in Critical Role I would HIGHLY recommend starting with this one. Especially if you wanna meet the pretty sad ginger wizard whomst I won’t shut up about. His name is Caleb and he has a cat I would die for him.
Okay but really I’m gonna shut up now because if you do start to watch Campaign 2 I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’m not gonna go into a big rant about each character to explain to you why I love them all so much. Just ... accept the fact that they’re all very very very hot. I mean look at them. The true bisexual agenda.
Tumblr media
They’re all ... so chaotic and feral ... but also soft ... and accidental found family and shit ... fuck I love them and their relationships together. They’re so alone and broken and they’re GROWING SO MUCH okay I’ll shut up now.
Here is the link to the playlist of Campaign 2 of CR on youtube!
Here is the link to the playlist for Campaign 1 on Youtube if you still wanna check it out first!
They also have a show called Talks Machina, where after each episode some of the cast answer to fan questions!!! (It’s on their youtube channel as well!)
AND ALSO before you leave, I still wanna tempt you one last time by giving you the link to the official ANIMATED OPENING FOR THE SECOND PART OF CAMPAIGN 2 I’m sure it will convince you more than anything I wrote in this mess of a post! (Careful though, because they created this intro for the second part of the campaign there are spoilers implied, but since you don’t know anything about the story yet, you probably won’t pick up on much … it will be like cool foreshadowing!)
SO YEAH HELLO I LOVE CRITICAL ROLE A NORMAL AMOUNT and I’m glad me screaming about it on main got you interested!!!!

you may not be blood, but you’ll always be family {Jim “Miami” Beach} (Platonic)
Summary: You’re a singer with EMI, just trying to get your solo career off the ground, but it’s been a bad night, and sometimes you just need a hug from your lawyer, friend, and pseudo-father-figure.
A/N: 1175 words. Wow my desire for Miami to tell me he’s proud of me really jumped out, huh. Anyways literally no-one asked for this but it came to me and like with all the other stories that aren’t prompted, I had to write this and get it out of my head so I can immediately forget I ever wrote it. (i tend to do that, honestly) anyways, miami loves you like he’s ya dad and is proud of you, the self indulgent fic. (also, i know it’s usually used a romantic song, Somewhere Out There - specifically the cover done by Donald Glover and Danny Pudi in season 1 of Community - just makes me soft and content and it’s what i was listening to the entire time i wrote this)
When Miami answers the phone at half past one in the morning, and all he hears on the other end of the line is your gentle sobbing, his irritation is quickly replaced with concern.
“Y/N?” He knows it’s you the moment you ask his name, voice trembling. He asks where you are, and you tell him that you’re at the recording studio, that you’d really appreciate being picked up.
You hadn’t been making music for long; you’d started out as a backup singer for a solo artist, and it was only when a few of your friends and family, Miami included, told you to look at a career of your own, that you followed their advice. It wasn’t as if you were a big name in the industry, quite the opposite in fact, the only reason you were even halfway connected to any big names was the fact that Miami, then known as just Jim Beach, took a shine to you when you were first signing your contract.
That was a few years ago, however, and by now, Jim had fit into his role of your pseudo-father-figure without hesitation. It was hard, your own family didn’t know how to deal with your career, and your friends your age had their own problems to deal with and didn’t need your teary, early morning calls when you had someone you knew would pick you up without question.
He doesn’t wait in the car when he arrives, doesn’t just honk the horn and wait to see you come out of the building, he gets the security guard to let him in, and he makes his way to the studio you’d been recording in, and hugs you as soon as he sees you. His expression is serious and concerned, no hesitation as he moves to sit you on the sofa, rubbing comforting circles across your back.
“It’s alright.” He assures quietly, his voice firm, as if daring the universe to fuck up this moment for you and face the consequences. You’re past crying, have been past crying for about ten minutes, five minutes after you got off the phone with him. Hugging him back, however, face pressed into the sweater he’d pulled on over his pyjama shirt, you can’t help but tear up a little.
“Is this from overworking, or did something happen?” When he asks, his voice is gentle but clinical, not wanting to dance around your emotions. It takes you a moment to clear your throat, sniffling before you speak, words a little muffled where you had your forehead against his shoulder.
“A bit of both,” you admit, and he hugged you a little tighter, not pushing you for further explanation, giving you the time you need to order your thoughts, “one of the executives came by to watch me record,” you murmur, voice catching a little at the still very fresh memory, “and he had some... less than kind feedback for me.” Finally you pull out of Miami’s hug, throwing yourself back onto the sofa in exasperation, wiping your eyes, a little infuriated that the memory provoked such a reaction from you. “And you know - you know - I try not to let shit like this get to me, but it was so late, and there’s just been some horrible stuff in magazines recently. I feel so stupid right now.” You huffed, pouting despite yourself.
“Who?” Miami asks, getting up from the sofa and making his way to the sound desk, searching around for a pen and paper.
“Who what?” You asked, faintly confused, and he gives you a thoughtful look. When he comes back to sit beside you, he’s poised and ready to write.
“Who said those things about you?” He asked, and when you respond with a first name, hesitating before you explain that you don’t know his last name, just know him by sight, Miami asks you to describe him.
“Executives aren’t allowed in the recording studio; it’s in your contract,” he explains, jotting down the notes you give him on the man. His words give you reason to pause, taken aback.
“That’s- when I was working with-” you try to protest, but he looks up at you, notepad balanced on his knee.
“It’s in your contract; it’s in all my clients’ contracts. It contaminates the integrity of the artist’s work.” He explains, before looking back down, “it’s blatant unprofessionalism, you wouldn’t invite a critic to a recording session, it’s an unfinished product and he had no right to give his unsolicited opinion like that.” There’s a sudden rush of affection that you feel as you watch him jot down a few more notes.
“But what if he’s right, what about the magazines-” You try, but he’s tearing off the page definitively, folding it up to hold tight in his hand.
“Music’s always been subjective, and critics have always been harsh; I happen to think you’re a lovely singer.” And with that he stands, offering you his free hand. “Let’s get you home, it sounds like it’s been a long day for you.” He muses, and there’s tears in your eyes again, but for a very different reason.
“You’ll be alright?” He asks, stopped outside of your house, looking up at the door with a little bit of doubt.
“Dude, I’m an adult.” You tell him, and he fixes you with a fond smile.
“I know,” his voice is surprisingly soft, “I just worry about you,” and when you go to protest, his lips twist into an amused grin as he speaks over you, “even though-”
“Even though I’ve told you that you don’t need to!” You reiterate a statement you’d said once or twice in the past, but he never seems to listen, and part of you is glad he doesn’t.
“Good night, Y/N, and take care, alright?” He asks as you’re unclipping your seatbelt, and you nod obligingly.
“Of course, you too,” but as you open the door to step out, you take the moment to look back at him, where he’s watching you with a faintly expectant smile, “I really do appreciate you, Miami.”
“Thank you, Y/N, you know I’m always here for situations like this.”
He’s not really your dad, but you know as he drives you home, as he helps you release your new EP, as you wave goodbye to the executive who it turns out had been harassing a lot of artists whose contracts he didn’t personally have a hold on, you know Miami’s proud of you.
When he leaves EMI with Queen, he doesn’t leave you behind. You go through scandals and heartbreaks and more PR crisises than any one person should, but he’s always in your corner, picking you up from parties, pubs, even out of the gutter a few times, and he does it without complaint. It’s hard to trust in this industry, to know who wants you for your name and fame, but the years and the fair weather friends come and go, but the sun always sets behind you on Miami Beach, and with the man himself, he's always there to back you up.

Hey! Been following for a while, do you play dnd or mostly just watch it? If you play, can you tell us about your characters and their adventures they’ve been up to?
Hey! Thanks for the ask! I do quite a bit of both actually. I DM a group who I absolutely adore that is played by a group of four of my best friends that is set in the Critical Role universe. I do prefer to play though and have played through five campaigns two of whom are current and a few one shots. I have like six player characters (not counting the one shot crowd or the planned but not played ones) so I’ll give some highlights of the main six and their campaigns but feel free to ask for more details about any of them because I could talk about them for ages!
To start we have the lovely Aiden NightAngel from the Oddessy of Rock campaign who was my very first real character. She was a half elf rogue who eventually took an oath of vengeance to become a paladin of Thanatos (basically a re-skinned Raven Queen). He was very pale with black hair and hazel eyes and presented as androgynously as possible. She wore black leather armor and a deep green cloak with a comical amount if daggers hidden placed. She and her best friend Emi (Another Thanatos Paladin) got roped into saving the world from a trio of evil undead and otherwise lords who were working to unleash the original evil deity. The world was built in a greek style and was mostly islands so we traveled by boat with a bunch of friendly pirates. We went all the way to level 20 and I have a lot of quotes and fun stories from that game.
Next is Finnan Bellowmend. He was a perky blonde halfling bard with blue eyes and an erie fey charm. He quested to the feywild in a campaign loosely based of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with an evil sorceress and they both avoided fighting almost entirely. We ended up winning that campaign and gaining the patronage of Titania of the summer court by writing and performing her a play. I later reused him because I didn’t have time to create a character and the the earlier adventure became his backstory. He is currently living it up as an NPC with a charming Warlock boyfriend.
Then we have the lovely Arella Stormwind who was a black Aasimar Ranger and happens to be my header for the blog. She was born into a society that decided to have themselves a religious crusade and so everyone different had to be killed or enslaved. After being rescued from that fate by her best friend and constant companion Talynn (also in the header) they decided to run away and join the countries that were fighting to stop their corrupt home. I played her for about half the campaign and then she got a bit too heavy so I switched characters but at the very end she came back and married the love of her life who happened to be Talynn. Best fantasy romance I’ve ever had the pleasure of being part of.
That leads us pretty well into my wonderful Divine Soul sorceress gnome with firey red hair and a passionate personality to match Calli Trueheart who was convinced she was a cleric. She gained her powers around the time she met another of our player characters, a bard named Algernop “nop” Pilfernab God Of Whims and Fancy, he was absolutely convinced that he was a god that just had yet to ascend. Calli was great fun to play but quite flawed mechanically so she did end up being my one and only permanent character death. However as a reward her sacrifice did allow Nop to attain godhood through no merit of his own but as the god of Legends and Rememberance not of Whims and Fancy. Both have featured as a cycle of reincarnations that are inevitable in every game featuring the two of us from now on.
Finally we have my current player characters Oriana who is from an amnesia campaign so all I know about her is that she is an elf and some sort of cleric. Upon figuring out her class, her first act was to throw her holy symbol in a lake. We have had no sessions since then but I am super excited to see how she develops and learn more about her.
Last we have my lovely Firblog Grave cleric of the Wild Mother. She has grey fur except for her lavender hair and her name is Selene Ashflower. She’s a joy to play and among her shenanigans she often trips on acid to contact her deity and has drawn from the Deck of Many things twice both times while high to a surprisingly good result. She also ended up beating a three session dungeon in one go because I took Hallow and our DM forgot that was a thing I could do at my level. I lobe her dearly but she is currently having a faith crisis that will be explored once school is back in session.
Hope that wasn’t too rambly! Thanks for asking about my lovely children and don’t hesitate to ask more about any of them including my campaign or my one shot crew!

Chapter Reviews: May 28-June 1, 2019
Wishful Thinking Chapter 8:
Emus! I'm so glad they finally appear! And the entire scene with them is simply funny and worth it. Pete's an uttee nutcase, though an entertaining one as well. The premium scene with Emi is so adorable that I want to see the emus again in future chapters.
Glad I get to show Alec who's boss. This guy should just stop treating his employees like crap. If only I could have him replaced by someone better (not Ellen, though), that would be better.
I'm glad I finally get to hang out with Anna outside of work. Most of her appearances have her and the MC doing their jobs, so a casual chat about the emu incident feels refreshing. And Charlie's office getting trashed means something fishy is going on, probably someone opposed to him like Ellen, though I could be wrong. Since the summary for Chapter 10 sounds like Anna has some secrets to share, it seems that something is up with Charlie. He's really fishy.
A Courtesan of Rome Chapter 19:
Another exciting chapter that kept me hooked like the previous one. I was worried what Cingerix might do to the MC, so I picked the premium option to talk him out of serving Caesar. I think doing so results in the MC and Victus having a positive opinion on Cingerix, who helped his sister escape as a result.
It was fun to watch MC train under her dad and Euthymios in preparation for the gladiator match, and Cingerix developing feelings for Euthymios. If only I can get my hands on Flavius for killing Locusta and poisoning the MC, my life would've been complete. At least there was Delphinia to pray for her daughter's safety, though the MC should really be more defiant towards Flavius.
Anyway, with my anger gone from me, it was satisfying to watch my MC deliver a speech gearing public opinion against Caesar. Even more so with Sabina chanting with the crows.
Man, I can't wait for the final chapters. Especially now that the MC has told the news about Cingerix's change of heart to Delphinia.
Passport to Romance Chapter 12:
I'm just sick of Elliot and William bickering that I want to shove them inside a room to sort out their own messes. On to the regatta.
As expected, the folks there are so snotty that I can just roll my eyes. I get that Sumire has to develop as an artist, and taking criticism is an important part of it (hence me telling her that it's a learning experience), but the impression Bronwyn gave did nothing to endear me to her. Same goes to Carlisle, whom I dislike more for talking like money's the only thing that matters. Either way, who cares about these two? I didn't spend diamonds to steal Carlisle's champagne, though. :P
So Elliot just got his entire friends in trouble by placing a huge bet on a losing boat? Well, thanks a lot, loser! I swear, Elliot keeps blowing his chances to make meaningful contributions to the group that it pisses me off to no end. The only times he did that were to provide the group a place to stay in Lucerne and a private plane to fly them to Monaco. However, their stay in Lucerne doesn't make sense when they could directly go to Germany from France, and Elliot just waited until they missed the second flight to reveal that his family owns the airline of the missed flights. I seriously question his usefulness. As for Marisa, she better not lose all that money from betting Carlisle.
Nightbound Chapter 7:
Why are there options to be mean to Vera for no reason while ignoring the fact that she saved MC from a zombie? I get that her power is deadly, but she used it for good, and had no intention to harm others. Let's hope others will warm up to her.
Heh, no surprise Lady Smoke is Vera's mom. I stumbled upon a theory @a-whore-of-rome came up with, though much of the information involves Vera's first premium scene, followed by the mention of Lady Smoke as a mobster. And wow! Vera and her mom are complete opposites. I think Lady Smoke kinda has a point that they shouldn't live in fear because of their powers. After all, their power to kill others with their bare hands isn't necessarily a curse, but can come in handy depending on the user and their intents. I think Lady Smoke lets this power get in her head that she largely uses it for her benefit. A pity I didn't get her monster tear, but I certainly have plans to get it.
A premium scene to talk to Priya Lacroix. Pass, at least for now. I make no secret why I hate Priya, even though spending time with a love interest sounds like something I'd do once I know who my LI will be. For the time being, none of the love interests capture my attention.
Platinum Chapters 1-2:
First impressions-wise, the story seems OK. I don't like the clichéd bits (small town girl gets picked up by a star), but there's still hope for something else. Super glad that my MC gets to wear glasses as a regular accessory, rather than as part of another outfit. After all, I also wear glasses. And not to mention that the fanbase meter and that certain actions can cause the MC to lose fans looks like a good mechanism that prevents an immediate rise to fame cliché.
Interesting that both Avery and Raleigh can be either male or female, depending on player choices. For Avery, I picked the female one because she's so pretty. The male one's eyes look dopey, but that's just personal impression. Raleigh's harder because both choices look good, though I ended up picking the female one. It's probably not final, though.
Heh, I know Ryder from AME would make a cameo appearance in this story, and it seems that he's in his element. Also, Shane is a good friend to have so far. It's a blessing.
What is it with PB and its affinity with the rival girl cliché? I get that Jaylen isn't a saint, but this cliché discourages players to view characters with proper nuance and understand their roles in the story. After all, an important part of evaluating characters is to not let biases on certain "types" hinder one's thinking.
Anyway, let's see how this story developes.
Open Heart Chapter 16:
Honestly, I really don't like the fact that the MC acts friendly towards Landry even though the way he sabotaged the MC involved disrupting patient care. Because of this, I continued picking options that don't give him credit. Not once did he feel remorse over sabotaging the MC and putting patients at risk. It's like the situation with Sebastian in The Sophomore all over again. Forced to forgive someone who not only expressed no remorse for their wrongdoing but also forgetting that what he did are illegal, dangerous, and degrading. It doesn't help that his sabotage of the boiler is enough to erase sympathy for him.
That aside, I finally get to work with Ethan on Naveen, and it seems that Ethan is more open on his respect for MC. That seems reassuring, especially since I giggled at him saying that his middle name's Jonah after the MC saying Ethan "Freaking" Ramsey.
Seeing Aurora wish the MC luck was nice and calming. I'm proud of her taking the initiative of being nice towards the person who consoled her. It doesn't erase her flaws, such as her overconfidence when she downplayed a case as "not interesting", but I'm ready to see her slowly warming up to others and learn that all patients are interesting in their own way.
Man, I can't believe the next chapter is the finale. I won't be surprised the MC will win and keep their medical license, followed by a little celebration that involves premium options to spend time with a love interest.
Bloodbound Chapter 3:
Too bad that it costs diamonds to actually have fun in Vegas in order to blow off some steam in preparation for meeting with Landgon. Well, I'm not super tempted to buy them because my LI is neither Adrian nor Lily, though I like them both.
Anyway, on to meeting Langdon. I knew this guy's shady, but to see him keeping various supernatural beings alive sickens me. Even more so when he planned to keep MC and co. as part of his collection.
So the cameo comes from Cal. Well, not surprising, and I'm just scared at what might happen to him.
And Lily saying "to defeat the Huns" is what I need to cheer me up and lighten my mood. Despite being a vampire, she always stays true to herself and helps in any way she can. I have great confidence she'll be a great assistant to Jax.
Regarding the second flashback, I feel bad at Adrian killing the Confederate soldiers, though I wonder if that scene has changes depending on his appearance. And Gaius just reminds me how ruthless and creepy he is despite having another side to him in the previous chapter. He's shaping up to be a villain I like.

Movie Review:  Bohemian Rhapsody
Tumblr media
Ready Freddie?
In 2010 when I heard a biopic of the rock group Queen was in the works and coming to the big screen, I was skeptical to say the least.  Being a huge fan of the band since my early teens and knowing much of their backstory, I had to wonder if anyone in Hollywood would do them justice.  Of course, upon hearing the involvement of Brian May and Roger Taylor (two members of Queen), my optimism grew along the way. My main concern was, when it came to telling the truth regarding the personal struggles of lead singer Freddie Mercury, how honest was the screenplay going to be? Portraying his sexual exploits, drugs, AIDS diagnosis, and unfortunately sad untimely death may be Hollywood gold when it comes to fiction but how would it play around the world to a global audience? Originally cast as the main character, Sascha Baron Cohen, left the project in 2013 due to creative differences with the producers. It seemed the film project, like so many others, would now fall by the wayside and never come to fruition. Thanks to director Bryan Singer (though he was fired from the project in 2017 to be replaced by Dexter Fletcher), writer Anthony McCarten, producers Graham King and Jim Beach (former Queen manager), the film re-grouped and was pulled from the abyss creating an instant classic. Subsequently, Fletcher received an executive producer credit; filming concluded in January 2017.
The film Bohemian Rhapsody opened world-wide November 2, 2018, to the thunderous applause of fans and some critics. The time frame of the film spans from 1970 to 1985, beginning with the introduction of Farrokh Bulsara (Freddie Mercury’s real name), an Indian-British Parsi and baggage handler at Heathrow Airport/college student, to the rock trio Smile (members Brian May on guitar and Roger Taylor on drums) in a London club. It is here with the addition of John Deacon on bass, Queen was born, and their legendary rise began. Of course, the screenplay takes editorial license when it comes to the sequence of events and timeline, the film is only two hours and not a documentary.  It is however, the story that is told within this time frame that makes Rhapsody the film it is. The cast is the best of best.  After seeing this movie, I can’t imagine anyone else in these roles.
Armed with only prosthetic teeth and talent, Rami Malek as Freddie, embodies the heart and soul of Mercury. Grandeous and larger than life, Malek struts his stuff with ease and grace up to the final thirty seconds of the film; which ends as it began with the legendary Live Aid performance in 1985. Freddie himself when not onstage was hugely shy and bit of a loner and outcast. Malek captures the vulnerability of Mercury in the most trying times of his life. Mercury was truly his own Jeckyl & Hyde. The Academy Awards is not known for nominating musical biopics for Oscars, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Malek (and other cast members) along with the soundtrack earns not only praise but gold statues when award season comes around. The greatest compliment I can pay this cast is, you forget they’re acting. The mask of illusion fades into the backdrop and you feel like you’re watching the band in the studio and onstage. You’re pulled into the experience of the film and nothing captures this better than the Live Aid concert sequences. For those of us who watched the original concert on MTV back in the day, this is a welcome kick in the tush. This is what rock-and-roll at its finest was meant to be. Gwilym Lee (Brian May), Ben Hardy (Roger Taylor) and Joseph Mazzello (John Deacon) are so convincing as Queen it’s uncanny. I’m convinced Lee deserves an award for Best Hair. Lucy Boynton (Mary Austin – Freddie’s longtime love), Aidan Gillen (John Reid), Tom Hollander (Jim Beach) and Aaron McCusker (Jim Hutton – Mercury’s lover) all deserve individual rounds of applause for their performances. Allen Leech (Paul Prenter – Mercury’s personal manager) gets my special notice for being a total jerk as his character. He wasn’t the ‘guy you love to hate’. In fact, I began to despise him every time he came on screen.  Now, that’s good acting. Even veteran Mike Myers makes an appearance as Ray Foster, an EMI executive who refused to release the song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as a single back in 1975. Cue Wayne’s World Rhapsody sequence. If you don’t know what I’m referring to: Google it.
The timeless music of Queen is the core of what makes this film so amazingly entertaining. The digital speakers in the theater bump, thump, and grind with every drum beat and searing guitar solo. ‘We Will Rock You’, never sounded so powerful and gritty. It is as Freddie and Queen are – the story of legend. Bohemian Rhapsody for all its parts is – dramatic, over-the-top, regal, and an unstoppable musical dynamo.  I’m sure Freddie wouldn’t have it any other way.
Bohemian Rhapsody is playing everywhere at a theater near you.
