Fanservant: Emer
Tumblr media
Thank you once again to @vivienna-vivid for this amazing drawing of Emer she did for me. Emer
Class: Assassin
True Name: Emer
Gender: Female
Region: Ireland
Source: Irish Mythology (Ulster Cycle)
Alignment: True Neutral
Height: 165cm
Weight: 66.7kg
Parameters
Strength: D+
Endurance: B-
Agility: B+
Mana: C-
Noble Phantasm: B
Luck: B-
Class Skills
Presence Concealment Rank E-: As an assassin class servant, this skill was a natural one for Emer to possess. However, as she is not trained in the ways of an assassin, nor does she naturally do much to hide her presence, this skill does not do much for her.
Personal Skills
Six Gifts of Womanhood Emer possessed “The Six Gifts of Womanhood'' , and these manifest in her servant self as a skill that allows her to resist mental attacks and afflictions.
Golden Rule (Body) Rank A The possession of a perfect, goddess-like body. Beauty was one of the many things Emer was regarded for. It is obvious that Emer would have this skill, both after asserting her superiority over the other women of Ulster at Bricriu's Feast and proving to be a rival to the Fairy Queen Fand.
Fighting Words Rank A The ability for Emer to reduce the strength and ability of opponents she's fighting by asserting her superiority over them via her words. Is more potent against female targets, and even more potent against Fae, being particularly devastating against opponents who are both.
Noble Phantasm
Oinor Con Eimhear: My Honor, My Words, My Deeds - A vocal noble phantasm that manifests the power of Emer’s words. Activated by announcing both her own true name and the name of her Noble Phantasm, it laces Emer’s already charismatic and convincing speech with magic. This speech-based magic can have a wide variety of effects, from compulsion to encouragement. However, the most potent use of Oinor Con Emhear lies just beneath the surface. Truly, Oinor Con Eimhear works its magic best on a particular type of person: particularly those who remind her of her beloved husband. While compulsion from Emer would be practically irresistible (similar to how Emer’s words enabled Cu Chulainn to rise from his sickbed in order to go seek a cure) it is at its strongest when used to support these kinds of people; supercharging their magical energy and enabling them to fight with incredibly fervor. As you can see, Emer’s utility as a direct combatant is fairly limited, but her utility is nearly unmatched.
Personality
The perfect wife in all manner of ways. Chaste, humble, and wise.
A braggart who never misses the chance to boast her prowess and superiority.
Such is the contradiction of Emer, famed for her chastity, yet dirty talks Demigods in front of her friends and boasts about how all the Ulstermen would abandon their wives for her if only Emer would encourage it.
She’s more restrained as a servant than she was in life, preferring to keep her more blatant boasting infrequent, and sneaking in more subtle boasts where she can. Adds a bit of flavor to the boast, in her opinion. In spite of this, she still maintains an open confidence regarding everything she does.
For all her outward confidence and poise, she has something of a weakness for those who remind her of her husband (or heroes in general). These types can get her flustered surprisingly easily.
The perfect housewife with iron will, atmospheric standards, and an ego to match even the greatest of heroes.
Motive and Attitude Towards Master
Emer treats her master with a kind of reserved respect. While she is outwardly kind and respectful, she still judges her master based purely on her own standards. A brutal honesty is taken towards them - although not for the sake of being rude.
Emer’s wish for the Holy Grail is “To Spend One More Week Alongside her Beloved''. She has no interest in a full second life, but a week should be enough to enjoy all there is to enjoy. Enough time to properly say goodbye on her terms
Historical Depiction
The Wife of Cú Chulainn, greatest hero of the Ulster Cycle of Irish Mythology. The youngest child of Forgall Monach, and his favorite child. Even at a young age, Emer displayed all of the gifts of womanhood (Beauty, Sweet Speech, Needle Work, Voice, Wisdom, and Chastity).
Cú Chulainn came to woo her when they were both 16, and it was love at first sight. However, Emer refused to be married to a nameless child, and demanded that Cú Chulainn perform great deeds before he was worthy to marry her. She also warned him against her father’s defenses, simultaneously providing him with great deeds to satisfy her. Cú Chulainn went off to train in the Land of Shadows, and soon enough returned, strong enough to thrash Forgall’s armys and retrieve Emer.
Later, when the trickster Bricriu plotted to turn Ulster against itself, Emer competed against the wives of Ulster’s other two greatest heroes, and definitively bested them in both a footrace and a contest of words. Later, Emer would attempt to convince Cú Chulainn that he was going to fight his son Connla, but failed.
Emer’s greatest adventure in the legends would come during her husband’s wasting sickness, after the assault on him by Fand, wife of Manannan Mac Lir, a member of the Tuatha De Danann. It was Emer’s words that roused him from his wasting sickness in order to go to Fand in order to seek a cure. When Cú Chulainn returned with Fand, having fallen for her during his time in the Otherworld, Emer gathered a group of 50 women to kill Fand. When Cú Chulainn tried to argue on Fand’s behalf, Emer’s words decisively outmaneuvered both her husband’s and Fand’s, and he was returned to her. Manannan himself then appeared, to guarantee that Cú Chulainn and Fand would never cross paths ever again, with either Manannan himself or the druids of Ulster wiping the incident from the couple’s memory (this memory wipe is no longer in effect when Emer is summoned as a servant) . This dispute between Emer and Fand was one that she won decisively - cementing both her iron will and reaffirming her status as “the best” even when compared to Queens from the Otherworld.
When Cú Chulainn’s end finally came, she mourned him greatly, and some even say that she allowed herself to be buried with him.
Relationships
Cú Chulainn (Lancer): Her beloved husband and model image of a hero. She takes him far less seriously than many others who may have known him - treating him with an extra layer of familiarity you’d expect from his spouse. Her wish for the grail is to reunite with him, so that they can say goodbye on her terms.
Cú Chulainn (Caster): Something of an enigma to Emer. While she knew magecraft was something her husband was capable of - she never remembered him preferring it compared to the spear or the sword. Of course, once she finds out how Caster Cú Chulainn himself feels about this situation, teasing him about his spearlessness came naturally.
Cú Chulainn (Prototype): Another enigma to Emer. While he certainly reminds her of “her” Cú Chulainn, both his younger age and nature of being from a different world/timeline makes her less open towards him compared to the other versions of her husband. She’ll still address him as “husband” but the two are far less close than Emer is with other Cú Chulainns.
Cú Chulainn (Alter): A Cú Chulainn not allowed to be “Cú Chulainn”, instead, the product of a wish made by Queen Medb upon the grail. As such, this is the Cú Chulainn Emer finds herself the most distant from, the one most separate from her. However, this does not stop Emer from loving him, from still seeing the Cú Chulainn within him.
Queen Medb: In spite of being the one responsible for the death of her husband, Emer treats Queen Medb surprisingly amiably, akin to a friendly rival. Whether this friendliness is mutual is far more debatable.
Diarmuid Ua Duibhne: Emer’s feelings towards Diarmuid are…conflicted, to say the least. While she admires Diarmuid on a personal level, and respects him as both a hero and a knight, his connections to Mannanan and fame for usurping the partner of a great hero make Emer uneasy due to causing an association with Fand.
Gilgamesh:  The arrogant king of heroes who is the “Natural Enemy’ of her husband. If Emer’s feelings towards Diarmuid are “conflicted” then her feelings on the King of Heroes are downright tumultuous.
Archer (EMIYA): Someone she notes has something of a…”complex” animosity towards her husband. Emer decidesthat their business has nothing to do with her and to engage with Archer on her own terms. They get along reasonably well, but are still rather distant.

SAINT OF THE DAY (August 16)
Tumblr media
On August 16, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of King Saint Stephen of Hungary, the monarch who led his country to embrace the Christian faith during the 11th century.
Before the future saint's birth in 975, his mother, the duchess Sarolt, is said to have received a vision in which the original Saint Stephen – the Church's first martyr – appeared telling her she would bear a son who would evangelize their land.
Together with her husband, the Hungarian duke Geza, Sarolt is believed to have been converted and baptized by the bishop Saint Adalbert of Prague.
The same saint baptized their son Vaik in 985, giving him the name of Stephen.
Geza had desired to convert the Hungarians to the Catholic faith, a passion shared by Stephen once he reached adulthood and succeeded him in power.
After conclusively defeating an alliance of rival pagan nobility, he used their acquired wealth to build a monastery and invited clergy to convert the people.
Stephen established laws favoring Christianity over paganism and sent an emissary to Rome with a request for the Pope to proclaim him as king.
Pope Sylvester II accepted the request, sending him a crown and a gold processional cross, while also giving Stephen certain religious privileges.
He showed great diligence as king, while devoting the rest of his time to his religious duties – including charity toward the poor and sick, as well as the worship of God – and to his household.
Gisela, Stephen's wife, was the sister of the ruler later canonized as the Holy Roman Emperor Saint Henry II.
Greatly devoted to the Virgin Mary, Stephen had several churches built in her honor both in Hungary and outside the kingdom.
Her intercession is credited with preventing a war between Hungary and the Holy Roman Empire under Conrad II, and stopping an assassination plot against Stephen himself.
The Hungarian king also established a monastery in Jerusalem and set up institutions to aid pilgrims in other major cities.
Stephen counted saints among his friends and correspondents. He fulfilled the Pope's charge to use his royal authority for the good of the Church.
Suffering came to the king, however, when only one of his children survived to adulthood.
Stephen's only living son Emeric received a strong Catholic upbringing and was expected to succeed his father. But Emeric died before Stephen, after a hunting accident in 1031.
Emeric was later canonized as a saint in his own right, and Stephen eventually came to rejoice that his son had been permitted to enter God's presence before him.
The king's final years, however, were marked by illness as well as a succession dispute among his relatives.
In 1038, on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Stephen delivered his final words to leaders of the Church and state, telling them to protect and spread the Catholic faith.
To the Virgin Mary, the king directed one of his final prayers:
“To thee, O Queen of heaven, and to thy guardianship, I commend the holy Church, all the bishops and the clergy, the whole kingdom, its rulers and inhabitants; but before all, I commend my soul to thy care.”
St. Stephen of Hungary died on 15 August 1038. He was buried alongside his son St. Emeric, and the two were canonized together in 1083.

I think Elayne and Elam act completely normal in Leyawiin? Like, local people know them as ‘that lovely married couple that use Water’s Edge as a side house.’ they pulled a story about their background and act like everythig is normal when they meet in there between his assassination jobs and her free time when High King Emeric doesn’t need her services.

Howdy howdy hope you're having a good day. In the tags of one of your posts you mentioned feeling that you think Nasuverse Cú is "squandered" in some way. Is it just a lack of apperences? Characterization issues? Hope ya don't mind me picking your brain a bit. Personally I've always found Nasuverse's Cú Chulainn one of the better adaptations of the figure - mainly because it seems like he's the only one I've been able to find who actually *likes* being Cú Chulainn in a sea of adaptations that play him up in a morose, tragic, broody way were his own existence is a curse upon himself (Hound Graphic Novel you are my sworn enemy) - which feels like it carries the spirit of the hero a lot better. Hope ya don't mind this chunky ask and that little tangent I went on, and I hope ya have a great day!
Oh no prob. For me it's a combination of how his myth is incorporated and lack of appearances. Characterization wise I think he's amazing. I get why StayNight servants don't really do anything in FGO but I think only some of them deserved that treatment. Rider, Bersaka, Sabah, and Satan I get because they all had big roles throughout. Caster, both Assassins, and to a lesser extent GaShinda however I think deserved to have proper roles in FGO, and of those 4 the only one who ever got that was Carm. Kijiro was a complete joke in Shimousa, Medea got replaced with an objectively worse Lily in Okeanos and LB5, and proper Medea's only appearance in the main story was a fake out, and Cu somehow has 4 different servants (5 if we count Arcade) who have all done NOTHING AT ALL. Custer was our tutorial plot device, Proto Cu is a glorified Easter Egg, and Calter is just part of Medb's character rather than his own thing. Combine all of that with the fact that Cu's most notable thing in his original story is how no matter what he dies (and how none of those deaths are ones that take place at the center of the story, with only 1 being a major story moment. Funnily enough that's my preferred route for completely different reasons). I know he's a bigger deal in Hollow Atarxia and has a connection with Bazzett but I dont know jack about HA besides it's a time loop thing about Bazzett and Angry Mango. I do know that even in Extraverse he dies and it's so that Extra!Rin has a story excuse to get superpowers pretty much.
It feels to me like he's this really cool character who isn't undersold per se, it's just he also never...well, does anything, especially in FGO even when Castoria gets to be a thing, Carm gets to have a role, Emiya gets his Alter in a story role, and now Shirou and Kotomine are flat out major antagonists. What does Cu get? A berserker alter who doesn't even have Warp Spasm and whose entire character is how much he DOESNT have a personality beyond "Bored. Kill." When Custer finally got a real role in LB6, it wasn't even Cu who was doing the work, but Odin. Not Lugh, Odin. WtFUCK.
The irony is you're right about Fate feeling like one of the few depictions of him where he's allowed to just be content with himself and be cool, yet Nasu's writing has a seriously callous regard for Celtic mythology; he pretty blatantly leaves stuff out or appropriates it to fit British focused narratives, and his writing has heavy pro-imperialist themes in regards to British erasure of Celtic culture. He has the same attitude towards norse culture and I'm sure it's connected to Odin being in lb6 rather than Lugh. I honestly can't understand the thought process like why would make a Celtic hero one of your most well known characters with what seems like genuine fondness for their myth but then pull all that...?
But that's a whole other conversation. TLDR, I don't think he's a bad character - far from it. But I feel like I have no reason to care about him as his own character, and they don't even implement things that could expand on him so much like Proto Cu and his master or the Riastrad or Emer or Aife etc.

excerpts relating to the akaviri potentates from high king emeric answers your questions, in case you’re interested in who the hell i’ve been talking about
on sidri-ashak:
King Emeric says, "Each Emperor of the Second Empire was advised by the leader of the Akaviri faction on the Elder Council, who bore the title Akaviri Potentate. Sidri-Ashak was Potentate to the little-known Emperor Brazollus Dor, who occupied the Ruby Throne between the reigns of Reman II and Reman III. Dor was not a particularly capable ruler, nor was he much interested in matters of state, preferring to spend most of his time at his country estate near Skingrad. The details of rule, and eventually nearly all issues of policy and politics, were delegated to his Potentate, Sidri-Ashak. This was Emperor Dor's one wise decision during his reign, for Sidri-Ashak proved to be both a gifted administrator and a man of integrity. It is a shame that he is not better remembered today; I have a rare copy of his 'Recollections of a Humble Potentate,' and often enjoy dipping into it before bedtime."
on versidue-shaie and savirien-chorak:
King Emeric says, "As mentioned above, the prudent monarch could do far worse than to model his polices upon those of Sidri-Ashak, who so capably served under Brazollus Dor, but I gather your question pertains to the regencies of Versidue-Shaie and Savirien-Chorak, who administered the Empire after the assassination of Reman III. Despite not being true Emperors, these latter-day Potentates ruled, for the most part, wisely and long. Versidue-Shaie was a peacemaker who ratified the Cervant Truce that ended the disastrous Four Score War with Morrowind, and suppressed the private armies of the Imperial nobility. But perhaps his greatest achievement was the Guild Act, which established and standardized regulation of trade and transactions across the Empire—and indeed, was adopted as de facto law across Tamriel, and even in the Summerset Isles. His successor, Savirien-Chorak, was not quite so able an administrator, and often responded poorly to the crises that began, in his era, to pull the Empire apart. But he was wise enough to recognize that it's better to have the Orcs of Wrothgar as your friends than as enemies, and it was he who finally brought Orsinium into the Empire."
and a bit more about the guild act from history of the fighters guild:
In the dawn of the year 320, a kinsman of Versidue-Shaie, Dinieras-Ves, "The Iron," presented himself with a host of companions before the Potentate. It was he who suggested an order of mercantile warriors-for-hire, who could be hired by nobility in lieu of a standing army. The employment would be temporary, and a percentage of their fees would go to the Potentate's government, thus putting salve on two of Versidue-Shaie's greatest pains.
Though it was then called The Syffim, after the Tsaesci word for "soldiers," the organization that was to be known as the Fighters Guild had been born.
[...]
The early success of the Syffim in combating crime and defeating local monsters so inspired Potentate Versidue-Shaie that he entertained representatives from other organizations interested in Imperial sanction. Though formed much earlier, the Mages Guild had always been viewed with suspicion by the government. In the 321st year of the Second Era, the Potentate gave his approval to the Guilds Act, officially sanctioning the Mages, together with the Guilds of Tinkers, Cobblers, Prostitutes, Scribes, Architects, Brewers, Vintners, Weavers, Ratcatchers, Furriers, Cooks, Astrologers, Healers, Tailors, Minstrels, Barristers, and the Syffim. In the charter, they were no longer called the Syffim, however: bowing to the name it had become known as by the people, they were to be called the Fighters Guild. All the Guilds, and those that followed by later sanctions throughout the second and third eras, would be protected and encouraged by the Empire of Cyrodiil, recognizing their value to the people of Tamriel. All would be required to pay to expand their influence throughout the land. The Empire was strengthened by their presence, and the Imperial coffers were filled once again.
Shortly after Versidue-Shaie's death, only three years after the Guild Act, his heir Savirien-Chorak allowed the reforming of local armies. The Fighters Guild was no longer the principal arm of the local aristocracy, but their worth had already been established. Though there were certainly strong individuals who sought their own fortunes in the past, many historians have suggested that Dinieras-Ves was the ancestor in spirit of the modern phenomenon of the Adventurer, those men and women who dedicate their lives to questing for fame and fortune.

Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!)  I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? Dnd campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!

So, my means of categorizing WIPs is....fuck’d. I have a lot of fics that just. Aren’t titled. And very likely won’t be named until I actually am in a position to publish them. So, in those cases, I’ll just post whatever they’re saved with in my WIP folder, which is usually the first line, which will be italicized.

History of the Genáh people, part II. (2947-3123)
Tumblr media
The Eastern Continent with the Feydelmship of the Snowplains in 2947.
Feydelmship of the Snowplains (2947-3058)
Agost's son and natural heir, Emeric was killed in an accident while hunting. The ailing Feydelm appointed his nephew, Zolta to the throne, but civil war erupted almost immediately after Agost's death in 2950. Zolta was killed by Cupan, the threacherous lord of White Cross. According to legend, the young Feydelm, following Genáh traditions, arrived unarmed to Cupan's camp to negotiate, but was abducted and trampled to death by horses. Cupan held the title of Feydelm for less than a year before he was defeated in battle against a coalition of Agostine loyalists. He was executed, his corpse cut in four pieces which were displayed on the walls of four major strongholds of White Cross, Warhorn, Snow's End and Deep Shore. From early 2955 until his death in 2964, Aba ruled the Genáh. He seized vast lands from the Maronne in order to increase the Genáh's power, but as a result several revolts broke out against him. Aba was eventually assassinated by Maronne nobles who then forced his successor, Harka "the Weak", later known as "the Just" (2964-2988) to initiate widespread reforms. These resulted in the creation of the Circle of Elders that acted as the de facto government of the realm for centuries. This institution included every realm noble over 40 years of age. Maronne nobles were initially included in the Circle, giving them a say in the running of the country, although purges under Harka's successors gradually diminished their influence. Eventually the Maronne and other ethnicities were assimilated into the Genáh.
From 2988 to this day, Harka's descendants have held the office of Feydelm, though from the late 29th century until at least the end of the 31st century, real power resided with the Circle of Elders. This era also saw the merging of the ancient Genáh religion with the various faiths of the Snowplains, giving rise to the Táltos-lam, a polytheistic faith centered around the Táltos, people born with specific physical deformities such as extra fingers or albinism and who were widely regarded as having supernatural abilities. The people of Goldhorn and the Marches follow various schools of this religion to this day. The emergence of the new faith coincided with the appearance of Continental magic in Genáh society. Although the nomadic Genáh had already attributed magical powers to the Táltos, their worship grew in importance significantly after the arrival in the Snowplains. The Táltos exhibit clairvoyance and telepathy much more commonly than the general population where these abilities are practically nonexistent. To this day, they are the most common magic users in Genáh society.
The successor kingdoms of the Livernese Empire slowly fell to the pressure from the Genáh in the East and the Atto to the West. Goldhorn, the last successor state, was invaded during the rule of Feydelm Aba III, with its eponymous capital conquered in 3058. In a bid to diminish the influence of the Snowplains nobility, Aba moved his court to Goldhorn where he ruled until his assassination two years later.

Feydelmship of the Two Seas before the Atto Wars (3058-3123)
Modern historiography refers to the Genáh realm post-3058 as the Goldhorn Empire, although contemporary accounts called it either Genáh Feydelmship or, as more of the Gold Sea shoreline was conquered, the Feydelmship of the Two Seas. This era saw the birth of the Transmarine Trade Fleet as well as administrative and military reforms including the reorganizatin of levied militias into regional command structures that eventually gave rise to the modern (Imperial) State Armies. These reforms were championed by powerful Elders, such as Ianus, a descendant of Harka who ruled vast lands around Red Rock. He was named Feydelm in 3098 (ruled until 3113), and his coronation marks the beginning of the descent of Elder power as the Feydelm, thanks to Ianus' own holdings and his centralization efforts, was now capable of exerting considerable influence over his subjects. The power of the Táltos has also grown, and by the 3100s has become comparable to that of the Elders in some regions. This era of reforms coincided with, and was probably influenced by, the establishment of contact with the theocratic Atto Empire that controlled modern-day Cragshore as well as most of the Neck and vast areas of Plainheart. Initial relations were amicable enough and several contemporary accounts on both sides mention flourishing trade and exchange of ideas between the two polities. Later however, the expansionist nature of the empires led to frictions over the ownership of the Neck, the Western parts of which were under Atto rule, while the East was controlled by Goldhorn. As the Atto at the time were preoccupied with curbing the power of the Nordic kingdom of Štyr and the Feydelmship had its own share of internal problems, open conflict was avoided. By the 3120's however, these issues were largely resolved. Štyr was beaten, its Southern territories becoming a vassal state of Atto. In Goldhorn, Ianus II (3113-3140) continued his father's reforms and consolidated his rule. The growing power of both empires led to the three Wars of the Neck (3123-3180), that eventually saw the Atto lose most of their lands to the East of the Hallum river.

❛ why are you laughing? this is a very serious situation. ❜ (emer!!)
This was indeed true. The situation had gotten out of hand and the minute singularity they were taken to was quickly being consumed by the corrupted holy grail. In fact, if they don't turn things around before the day ends, it'll escalate to something far more troublesome and dangerous to deal with. It's just that...
A bunch of balloon pink elephants with ribbons and angry eyebrows drawn on them came charging at them.
Needless to say, a few flames were all that was needed to eliminate the 'threat'. If she had to rate the enemies they've encountered so far, she would say that they were at level 1 or level 2 at most. But they came in the hundreds and this place was like a labyrinth, wasting their time whenever they opened a new room or passed by a new corridor. Whoever got a hold of the wish-granting device understood how to make the best use of the terrain and had a liking for cute, sparkly things. It almost felt like they were inside the hat of a magician who took a liking for the coquette aesthetic.

"Pale pink suits you, my love," was all Emer said before going to the next room, now to face a few cotton candy bears. If her husband were to reach behind his head, he would notice that a bit of the magic splashed on him, decorating his long hair with a bunch of tiny ribbons.

lmao, she would stab me though if I saw her again. It's just how she is. But for real, I need more Naryu in my life. I miss her.
It'd just be her way of saying 'hello, I missed you' lmao
Srsly this would be such a perfect year to bring her back; political intrigue, murder, assassination plots - she'd be right at home yet she was nowhere to be found in High Isle. There's still hope for Q4 I suppose. Ayrenn may have teased Raz returning in Q4, and Emeric mentions the Ring of Daggers. Naryu is essentially the Pact's equivelant of those characters so we can hope that she'll put in an appearance as well 🥺
