Hey, other Durge players, I'm curious: what class/es did you give your Durge and how do they tie into their backstory?

#I went with Ranger (which is a story I've already partly told) and then shoved on one level of sorcerer for the dialogue options #Deathstalkers traditionally stalk rural areas #hunter and tracker - but the prey is people #animals as weapons and co-conspirators #death as part of the natural world #adept at making own poisons #lying low outside the city #etc #I pretend that the ranger spells are actually divine soul sorcerer spells. If this was 3.5e I'd be playing Favoured Soul #Honestly the joy of multiclassing left me when prestige classes did #This bitch would be an arcane archer for the irony #“Look! Where did the dead elves go before orome discovered the elves?

Bc if they went to the halls of mandos, then Mandos probably would have been aware of their existence, but he wasn’t?

Therefore: the elves that died before orome discovered the elves either A: were waiting for mandos to notice them, either as ghosts or in a sort of celestial waiting room.

Or B: went to a different afterlife all together.

Some unimportant things that irk me about Astarion and his related stories

Despite being highborn, Astarion gets buried in the ground with some rinky dink tombstone, not inside a mausoleum.

Ascended!Astarion is able to inherent all of Cazador's assets with no push back, despite being a high ranking law official who was thought to be dead for 200 years.

Elves trance instead of sleep, which gives them the ability to relive memories in vivid detail, but they can choose to sleep if they want to. Why doesn't Astarion choose sleeping over this if going into reverie forces him to relive moments from his 200 years of torture? This could've been a cool character quirk -- having an elf that prefers to dream over trance.

Astarion never really laments about how being undead affects him as an elf. His reincarnation cycle is broken and his soul cannot enter the elven afterlife. Seems like a missed opportunity for conversations between him and the elf companions*.

Why no claws??

Why didn't any of the spawn examine each other's scars? Obviously, they still wouldn't be able to understand it but Astarion makes it seem like he never even glanced at his siblings' backs.

How was Astarion able to run away during his early years as a spawn under Cazador's compulsion?

Matter of fact, how did Dalyria bite Victoria if all the spawns were compelled to never drink blood from humanoids?

Victoria is a fresh corpse capable of speech but it's assumed she's been dead for a while.

Astarion has nothing to say about Victoria's body

Yousen and Violet have no cutscene presence at all

How did Cazador create 7000 spawn without doing the burial ritual? And if he did do it, how did he manage to do something like that in the comfort of his mansion without anyone noticing? Do the Tourmaline Depths have graveyard? Does the Szarr estate have a private graveyard that his main spawn never had access to?

When it's revealed Astarion helped kidnap the Gur children, no one in the party really comments on it. Astarion had only mentioned luring adults for Cazador to feed on. This reveal that he also stole children (and recently, too) should elicit some reaction from the other companions or the PC.

I just want to known the in-universe reason why Astarion's spawn siblings have glowing red eyes, black scleras, and shark teeth

Why is Pale Petras not pale???

Epilogue Spawn!Astarion is said to be an adventurer/hired killer but his attire doesn't reflect that. The doublet is a nice callback to EA but it doesn't fit his new life as a full time rogue.

i do think the fact that everybody in your party pretty obviously has something deeply wrong with them is one of the things that makes da2 fun. you have:

the dwarf who treats his deadly weapon that he’s murdered literally hundreds of people with like an anime body pillow and may or may not be in a relationship with it

the shy (slightly autistic?) elf girl who is 100% convinced she is way too smart to ever be mind-controlled by demons, so dabbling in blood magic is fine

the emotionally unstable mage who is mind-controlled by a fade spirit with anger issues

the former elf slave (child?) soldier

the pirate who got out of her abusive relationship by having her lover murder her husband, and who seems to cope with her issues via drinking, sex, and risky smuggling operations, and who’s terrified of emotional intimacy

the ex-soldier who had to watch her husband be euthanized in front of her while fleeing the undead and promptly became a cop

hawke herself, who can be traumatized by the death of every single member of her family depending on certain choices, and who has to watch her mother get turned into a necromancer’s mad science experiment love doll, all the while relying on this merry band of lunatics to try to keep her entire world from falling apart (and failing)

none of these people are remotely okay. by these standards, everybody in the DA:O party had an utterly idyllic background.

A couple days ago I asked people, on instagram, to give me some cool armor suggestions. Could always improve my brain library of armor designs as well as skill in painting shiny bits. Got some awesome suggestions, but damn, some of those are….complicated 😅

my friend who avidly plays dnd (the one who did the evil playthrough of bg3 with me) gave me the most wicked and sickening astarion fic idea. he belongs in prison. i can’t stop thinking about it.

#we were debating about astarion’s whole elven soul and reincarnation ordeal when it came to his vampirism #like obviously astarion’s elven soul was lost #it’s gone #hence why i believe he can’t remember his life well pre cazador #but he still trances and my friend brought up what if he saw what the person who ended up reincarnated as his soul did? #like what if post cazador astarion is witnessing his soul fall in love with a reader/oc #and it’s not *him* but he still experiences all as if it is #and so then suddenly #he’s falling in love with someone who only exists in his ‘dreams’ #aka trances #anyways it did psyche damage #especially if it was PRE tadpole and he would cling to those memories between the torture #fuck #reader/oc still actually exists out there just… not in astarion’s life
