I'm about halfway through A Duet with the Siren Duke by Elise Kova, and it is doing everything Acotar tried to do. Fmc recovering from an abusive relationship and trying to save her family from ruin. I wish Elise Kova's books were more popular than Maas. Her characters don't feel skin deep.

It never made any sense to me to make Feyre's sisters the way they are. It works so much better when the motivation of the protagonist is endearing to the reader. But the only way Maas knows how to make her protagonists "likable" is to tear everyone else down.
