i love being a genderqueer trans man. i love playing with gender in ways that aren't very expected of someone with a masculine body and presentation. i love combining cutesy looks and aesthetics with a heavy beard, body hair and deep voice. i love how makeup looks on a rugged, angular face.
i love being able to wear the clothes that made me dysphoric when people saw and addressed me incorrectly. i love being able to be femme and effeminate without feeling like i want to crawl out of my skin, but rather, like i'm living my best self, and having fun while i do it.
i love being able to play with gender now, as opposed to feeling weighed down by it. i love being genderqueer. i love being a trans man.
if you find yourself questioning if you are or can be both, this is your sign that you can. people tell us that if we're effeminate that it means that we're confused girls, but that's not the case. cisgender men get to play with their appearance at times; people who approach me to compliment my appearance always assume i'm cisgender. if they can, so can we.

I can’t believe I need to say this, but a gay character being effeminate, who likes make-up or fashion, it’s not necessarily a stereotype.
Web-Weaver was created (by a gay man) to represent ONE type of gay men who doesn’t get represented in superhero comics, what’s the problem? he’s fab, he’s fashion, he’s the moment.
Stop trying to make every gay superhero the same thing, I’m tired of the same manly gay guys from Marvel/DC.
Let us have one gay twink who is loud, is a fashion designer and wears make-up.

Soy Boy Pride Flag
Tumblr media
[ID: 7 horizontal stripes, colored with larger pink, pale yellow, green, smaller blue, green, pale yellow, and larger pink. end ID.]
Soy Boy (soyboy): An effeminate or unmasculine man; a man supposed to be weak experiencing excessive estrogen levels; a pejorative term sometimes used in online communities to describe men perceived to be lacking masculine characteristics. The term bears many similarities and has been compared to the slang terms cuck (derived from cuckold), nu-male and low-T ("low testosterone") – terms sometimes used as an insult for male femininity by online communities
A reclaimed term, may be seen as transmisogynistic, carnist (antivegan/speciesist), and it's often used by right-wing reactionaries trying to offend leftists.

Existing in Girl World As A Foreign National
So even when people theoretically understand me to be a dude, there are a lot of them who kind of seem to still place me in the “girl” or “women and femmes” (ugh) box for certain forms of gendered interactions.  This seems to happen to me more with women than with other men.  At least with straight men, but it seems like most gay men I actually spend time with also put me (where I belong) in the man box.  Though admittedly, I may also just be being put in the ??? box, because I am a very gender non-conforming man and the social script for that is a little up in the air.
In any case, I’ve noticed that oftentimes when interacting with women there are kinds of-- it’s not that I think women are bitchy or competitive, but I do think there’s a weird sort of awareness of physical appearance and presentation and what not that’s part of what’s included in the *~*~*~*cultural model of woman/girlhood or whatever*~*~*~* and even if you’re countering it, and trying to undermine that norm, it’s a factor in your thinking I guess?  Like all women are sort of automatically entered in this big, horrible, eternal beauty contest, and you may or may not want to participate and may in fact be doing your best to sabotage the whole competition, but the whole world is constantly screaming your score at you, and so whether you want to be in or not, you kind of are in some way or another engaged with that system, whether you are ignoring it, participating, or undermining it or whatever, there’s an interaction happening. Anyway, so like I’m in the beauty contest, even though I have been entered by mistake, do not belong here, and am profoundly uncomfortable with and embarrassed by the whole thing.  And now I am also not saying I am the most stunningly beautiful creature on earth or anything, but I present a certain way, which is hyper-feminine and very “done” a lot of the time and because of the beauty contest that society has forced women and for some reason me (and presumably many other people who do not belong there) to participate in that does seem to lead to my presence having certain emotional ramifications for women in particular that feel deeply gendered and deeply weird because I’m just like “I’m not even supposed to be here.”

i want to be an effeminate emo faggot but im afab and dont know how to do that without people just assuming im a girl. the only people who clock me as trans are other trans people
hello there, glad you took the time to send an ask
it can be very, very hard to get cis people to interpret us correctly at times. the fortunate thing with emo fashion is that it is very, very easy to dress like a faggot- many if not most emo folks are queer, and emo guys in specific look particularly faggy a lot of the time
it might help to switch up a few things about your appearance- you don't have to change everything, but maybe switching to more masculine pants, or wearing guy's shirts, sweaters, etc. with skirts. you may find success in layering your outfits, a lot of emos wear long sleeves under short sleeves, etc.
shaggy emo hair looks pretty neutrally gendered since emo boys and girls wear the same hair cuts generally speaking. you can try to wear masculinizing makeup, or emulating five o clock shadow or facial hair, or you can always keep up wearing masks if need be. i find that wearing eye makeup more heavily on the lower lid helps you look more masculine.
keep in mind that cis male emo boys get misgendered and misinterpreted as girls a lot, too, it's not just the trans emo boys. i would try to remind yourself that in being an effeminate guy, misgendering happens regardless of agab- cis people being confused will be a normal part of the experience, but i hope you're able to navigate things in a way that make you get read more like who you are and find acknowledgement from more than just other trans people
good luck, take care of yourself, stay safe, if you need anymore help, feel free to ask again. keep being your awesome self, much emo luv xx

effeboy: an effeminate boy; someone who both considers themselves a boy and has some significant connection to effeminacy, either in their gender or expression; an umbrella term for all identities that involve being both a boy and effeminate; a version of (or alternative to) rosboy for those who consider themselves effeminate rather than feminine
i've been really vibing with calling myself effeminate lately, so here's a rosboy term using effeminate instead of feminine! the flag format and bottom two stripes are from the rosboy flag, and the top three stripes are inspired by the effeminate and effeminogender flags. the term is 'effe' from 'effeminate' + 'boy'!
(also, like in the original rosboy definition, i only used the word 'boy', but those who id as guys, men, male, etc. can also use this term)
flag id: a flag with 5 stripes. in order, they are dark pink, purplish-pink, lavender, very light turquoise, and light turquoise. end id.
banner id: a 1600x200 teal banner with the words ‘please read my dni before interacting. those on my / dni may still use my terms, so do not recoin them.’ in large white text in the center. the text takes up two lines, split at the slash. end id.
