“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
Over the weekend I purchased this book ‘Edgar Alan Poe The Complete Tales and Poems’. So far I have read a couple of poems. My current favorite poem is Tamberlane. I interpreted this poem as cold, melancholy, yet heartwarming. Poe has become one of my favorite authors since I was in High School. I remember reading The Black Cat during class. After reading it, I instantly fell in love with this literacy work. Since that day I have followed Poe’s work. Thankfully, I found a book with the full collection of Poe’s work. I am happy and prepared to be consumed by Poe’s tales and poems 📚
You are warm, warm like tea left out for a couple of minutes. Warm like jumpers in the winter. Warm like the little pockets of sunlight in spring. You are beautiful, in a quiet way. Like the first stars in the night, like the blend of the colours in the sunrise. You are like playing my favourite song on my headphones, like that first bite into a plate of amazing food, like that satisfaction of opening a new book, like that hit of happiness when the theme song to the best TV show comes on. I can find you in every little thing that makes me happy. You are wonderfully you. But it’s a shame I can only imagine.
