You Know, I Really Didn’t Think I Would Have To Make A Post About This.
Some of you normies, and even some of you alts, really need to understand that you can’t use a word to describe a culture as an insult. The alternative community is a community of several subcultures based almost entirely around music, but very rarely can include fashion, literature and art. Stop using the names of these cultures incorrectly.
I only say this because I’ve seen a few people using the terms e-girl and e-boy as an insult, or to describe someone that is weaponising their attractiveness, and that’s blatantly just not what an e-kid is. E-kid is a music based subculture from the alternative community, not a set of people acting “cringey” on tik tok. Imagine calling anyone that talked about their emotions an emo as an insult. That’s just not how that works.
E-kids get a lot of hate for literally no reason at all. The only thing that makes a person an e-kid, is listening to alt z, dark pop, alt-rock, pop punk, pop rock, trap metal, dark r&b, phonk and similar genres. That’s it. That’s all an e-kid is. You know what musicians this includes? Melanie Martinez, MOTHICA, Olivia Rodrigo, Mitchell Dae, Banshee, Maggie Lindemann, even some k-pop groups. I guarantee you that you’ve listened to an artist from one of these genres. E-kids aren’t cringey, they’re listening to very similar music as emos, grunges and normies!
Stop using e-girl or e-boy as an insult! That’s like using “horror movie fan” as an insult! You wouldn’t call someone that’s trying to win points for being pretty a “fantasy novel enjoyer” as an insult! Because the two are completely separate and it makes no fucking sense! Stop using alternative subcultures as an insult! Alternative people get bullied enough for daring to be slightly abnormal, and we don’t need you taking our words and turning them into political insults!
I don’t know why normies keep insisting on using alternative subcultures as insults, but it’s starting to really annoy me. Like, leave us alone. Skinny jeans aren’t in fashion anymore? Black make up looks scary? Stripes are so strange to look at? Dude grow up, it literally doesn’t fucking matter. We’re all going to be dead some day, and it won’t matter what we were listening to or wearing.
E-kids aren’t cringe, they aren’t privileged, they’re literally just people that like certain genres of music. Stop using it as an insult and stop using it incorrectly. That’s bullying. It may not be intentional bullying, it’s entirely possible you simply didn’t know what e-kid actually meant, but it is bullying to insult someone for their taste in music. Or to turn a subset of music genres into an insult.
