anyway switching back to yj for a min. shauna kills adam because she truly believes he is the blackmailer and was using him and that she was in danger in that moment from him. she frames him to protect jeff. she lies to tai (because that one is a personal betrayal) and nat about what happened, about most things, and nat focuses on how she won't get answers for travis now because she's convinced herself the blackmailer and travis' killer are one and the same.
the conversation that nat and shauna have in the bathroom is one of the most honest shauna has had in an extremely long time, and i think that really resonates with nat. nat was the one that called out tai and shauna for hiding behind their "perfect" lives and pretending like they aren't as messed up as her. then shauna discloses her own secret about how she views the world, the emptiness she feels, connecting herself to travis (a different post is needed for me to discuss everything i feel about shauna travis thanks) and in turn nat, because they understand each other so well.
they both have these thankless roles in the wilderness. nat gets blamed for not bringing back enough meat, and shauna is the one tasked with rations and portion control and later with literally cutting up their friends. nat takes on the role of queen, which could be seen as thanks except it's a role she also never asked for and responsibility that was placed on her. they both lost their purpose after the wilderness, and they understand each other in a way no one else really can.
and so when shauna tells nat that she feels the same way nat has, and the way she assumed travis did, nat actually listens. nat hears shauna say travis might have given up, hears shauna say that she needs to forgive both travis and herself for this action and not being able to save him, and while nat is unable to do that, she does come to terms with the act itself. travis was not connected to the blackmailer; shauna knew this. shauna can't tell nat how she knows this, but she can give her some relief, if blunt advice. it's a story about love!!!!

Jack Twist was born to John and Jolene Twist after about a year of trying for a baby. The young couple welcomed their first and only child on a chilly morning in April at home. Everything had gone well with the birth and both Jack and Jolene were as healthy as could be. John was very proud of both mother and son and would go to great lengths to bring them up in conversation whenever he could. Jack quickly grew into an energetic, bright young boy with a natural curiosity for the world around him.
When Jack was 19, his father decided that he should get a summer job. The money he received from odd farmhand work and rodeo gigs wasn’t enough, you see, and he needed to start doing more to support the family. Jack decided to take a sheep herding job at a local mountain called Brokeback Mountain. He didn’t know much about sheep, but he figured it wasn’t that different than working with cattle, so he took the job. As it turned out, the sheep farmer that had hired Jack had also hired another farmer, a 19 year old from Wyoming. All that Jack managed to get out of his fellow shepherd was that his name was Ennis Del Mar.
Jack and Ennis didn’t talk much for the first few weeks they were on the mountain. Jack worked higher up on the mountain than Ennis did and so there was no reason for their paths to cross other than at mealtimes. And for a while, that’s all the interaction they had. One night, though, they’d been drinking more than usual and Jack made the mistake of trying to make a pass at Ennis. Nothing came of it, at least, not at first. Eventually, they ended up falling into bed together in Jack’s tent and the agreement was made that it was to strictly be a one time thing. The agreement wasn’t honored, as Jack and Ennis would go on to continue their affair for the next twenty years.

Aiden stared at the ceiling of the wagon which doubled up as an infirmary - in the sense that it had a couple of chests of potions and rudimentary first aid supplies shoved in one corner - trying to ignore the throbbing in his leg. It was bad enough that he'd broken it misjudging the landing after he fell from the tightrope, he didn't want to add to the humiliation by looking like he couldn't handle a little pain.
He heard the rustle of cloth followed by an "Oi." And someone tapping on his splint with a booted foot, causing him to cry out and clutch at the damaged limb.
"Dickhead." He hissed at the interloper.
Sev merely grinned, unrepentant as he squatted down and held out a vial. Older than Aiden, he'd already been on the path a handful of years and was always the first to track him down and show off any new scars earned when they came back for the winter whilst Aiden filled him in on the gossip and any relevant changes to hierarchy around Dyn Marv with all the weight of a child imparting a great secret (which to be fair, a good portion of what he shared would make for excellent blackmail material. Loose tongues ran rampant under the security of home and drink and until you started on the Path, people had a habit of forgetting you actually existed outside of training or chores).
"At least now it's hurting enough you don't have to be a fucking martyr about doing something about it. Drink."
Aiden did so, wincing at the taste despite the healing draft being watered down to make it stretch further (and to not accidentally kill the newly Grassed until they had a better idea of their tolerance to Witcher potions). He had his doubts when the others told him he'd get used to it in time.
"While you're waiting for that to kick in. Fancy a couple of games?" Sev asked, pulling a gwent deck out from somewhere.
"I still don't know how to play."
Sev raised a blond eyebrow, "Fucking hell, how do you actually pass the time here? Aside from throwing yourself out of trees."
Aiden stuck his tongue out in response, "S'not like we get a chance to earn any cards when we ain't allowed to leave here."
"C'mon, I'll teach you now then." Sev said sitting cross-legged next to the bedroll and blankets Aiden was occupying and shuffling through the deck.
"Why?"
"You got anything better to do? Alright, so these are your basic cards."
They managed to get three games in - all of which Aiden lost soundly - before Sev got more or less dragged out to join everybody else for the night before they headed back out again the following morning.
"Here." He said, slipping Aiden a handful of cards "I got doubles of these and they do jack shit in most plays anyway so you're doing me a favour taking them. Get a headstart on your classmates before you head out."
Sev never came back that winter. Nor any of the following.
"Alright. How the fuck did you even manage that?" Lambert asked as he took in the cards on the rickety table in front of them, the top one was so worn it was getting difficult to discern the picture. That didn't stop it from winning its owner the game though.
"I told you. Lucky." Aiden smirked as he gathered up the cards before shuffling through them, plucking out the others which were just as worn and discoloured before handing their more pristine doubles back to Lambert, "Here. You can keep these ones."
Lambert's brow furrowed, "Why? They're in way better condition than the copies you have. Where'd you even get them anyway?"
Aiden placed them in their customary place on the top of his deck. All apart from the healer card, which he tucked into an inside breast pocket of his coat, "A friend."

I sat at the window a lot today, trying to observe the changes in the sky that indicate time passing.  The Lumarians left the house while I was napping, so there’s been no way for me to get back outside and study the flora/fauna.  
If you have time to think about it, as I have, the two suns really aren’t all that different than a moon and sun in terms of placement in the sky at specific times.  I just have to be able to differentiate between them, which is the part I’m still struggling with.  Obviously I cannot stare directly at them for any period of time to get an idea of size, shape, minute color differences, etc, and they’re similar enough that at a glance they look the same.  In addition to this, there’s no time when they’re both in the sky and I can see both from this window to compare them.  Because I don’t have a direct comparison and cannot differentiate between them, timekeeping has been a full-time job.  I have to learn the patterns of the rest of the world relative to the minuscule changes in light outside.  I can’t rely on outside patterns to help me forever, so I have to figure out what’s triggering them instead.  So far, I can say with some certainty that the Lumarians leave at noon.  Which noon, however, I am still unsure.  I’ll use that as a benchmark for the rest of my timekeeping though.  From now on, when the Lumarians leave it is zero hour.  The time between this ‘noon one’ and ‘noon two’ may not actually be twelve hours, but given as that is about as close of an estimation as I can make and relates to the cycle I’m used to, we’ll go with that.
Given that standard put in place, right now it’s probably 3 o’clock.  The main difference between keeping time here versus on earth is that you actually have to pay close attention to which sun is where-  the light levels aren’t as reliable of an indicator.  You can’t see it’s dark and say ‘oh it’s nighttime!’ or see the sky is red and decide it’s either sunset or sunrise- and then decide which one based on where the sun is.  Because there are two suns and it’s never dark.  
Also, time is completely made up and is just an idea put in place to keep us organized.  Because nothing ever actually changes with time here.  It’s always day, all the time, and there’s no night or indication of passing days.  I don’t even know how long I’ve been here, really, if you think about it.  I crashed, then slept twice, and now I’m here.  So is that two days?  Three?  Or has it been longer?  Who knows.  What’s the definition of ‘today’?
I’ve been thinking about time way too much, and for far too long.  Staring out this window for so long is making my head hurt.  I’m going to go run around the house until reality feels real again.

So, I've been holding onto this for a while. And I just had to let it out because I haven't really seen someone with this take yet (but if there is, PLEASE point me out to them!!). People's reaction to Din's name order reveal in that last episode baffled me a lot, because the fans didn't seems to like it all that much (and some seemed to outright hate it). But I actually LOVED IT and I think it brings out some of the themes of identity and what it means for Din in particular and for his covert in general.
Right out of the gate I will say: I don't really think that this was planned from the beginning. Yes, I think that most probably Din's name started as Din and and his surname Djarin, until someone somewhere had the idea to change it up for that last episode. Though I wouldn't put it past the producers to have had that idea from the begining, as there are some pretty involved individuals on the creative team that like to make lore that never makes it to Canon.
But, though I don't think it was planned from the beginning, I don't think that this reveal (and I will call it a reveal, because I think it was meant to be one) loses all that much by not being planned from season one. Ideas progress, and I don't doubt that they were doing it a season at a time, finding new ways to explore Din's identity when confronted with the various occurrences throughout the episodes.
Having said that, I will explain why I think it's genius. And I totally understand if people don't necessarily agree.
Din's anonymity is a big part of his character, and I always loved how the show did its best to first: actively hide his face and name; and second: when revealed, do its best to not remind us of his face and name or use it unnecessarily.
I don't really need to explain that first part, you guys saw the show. We don't know his name until almost the end of season one, and that is the same for his face. His face is only shown when we have confirmation that a sentient (if you consider a Droid a sentient, BECAUSE I DO) sees his face. That is a big step and this reveal will mark Din because this is a first step on the big list of technicalities in which he "breaks" his code. The second being when he wears the imperial soldier helmet.
Every moment he breaks his rule of anonymity, there's weight.
But the second part is the one I'm gonna focus on: the show actively tries to not remind us of his identity. Even after the reveal of the face, we don't get free scenes of him alone without his helmet. Though I will admit that the show uses his name casually a lot, I will also point out that is kinda hard to not use it when he's with other mandalorians (how to distinguish that the Armorer is speaking about him or about Paz in scenes? Etc). And I will forgive when people that are not mandalorian use his name after they learn it. (Like that scene in BOBF when Fennec just announces to a group of mercenaries his name). But the fact that people seem weirded out by Fennec announcing his name like that is proof of how they don't use it unless necessary. I even had a friend point out to me that in the subtitles (at least for S2, dont remenber for S3) they chose to use [The Mandalorian] instead of [Din Djarin] when hes talking offscreen. Even the spelling was very uncertain in the begining, you can still find posts and fanfics written with "Dyn Jarreen" or other variants.
Though his helmet and his belief in wearing it continue to be a big part of his identity and faith/creed, I think that the need for anonymity in the form of not revealing his name is eroded slowly throughout the series. He opens up more, makes friends and allies, and recognizes Grogu as family. And, progressively, his friends get to know him and use his name (or not!). This last step, of recognizing Grogu as family, is fundamental to me. Lastly, the mandalorians don't need to be anonymous for survival anymore: they can profess their culture, identity and creed under the sun, not hidden. And that's why I love it, because one last barrier that the series has given us is eroded IN the scene that Mandalore has ressurged as a unified nation and Grogu is adopted. In that scene, they reveal to us that Din's his surname and Djarin is the personal name. We get the meaning behind the words that we've been using to call him all this time, and that changes everything!! We didn't really know him because he was not in a position to be safely known. Now he is. He is ready to have his clan and it's not Clan Djarin, it's Clan Din!!
On a sidenote, I don't think that his friends knew the order. The only confirmation we have is that the Armourer knew, though maybe not long before the ceremony. So the weirdness of having Bo-katan call him by his "first name" and Cara call him by his family name is kinda part of it. He didn't open himself up until that last moment.
TLDR: The reveal of Din Djarin's personal name and family name is a last barrier that the series erodes to us, in a three season progression of slowly but surely revealing The Mandalorian's identity; progression which goes hand in hand with his character arc and the revival of Mandalore, that makes it possible for Mandalorians not to live in anonymity anymore.

On Permanence (2021, M, 1.4k) - the title itself makes me immediately love this fic but I wasn’t prepared to the explosion of feels this sexy, tender, introspective fuck buddies to lovers gave me. The clubbing atmosphere full of freedom and possibilities, their easy coming together as if inevitable, the tentative way they navigate this change of pace, wanting as much as before but with so much more meaning and time to discover each other. Utterly gorgeous.
The possibility of going home with Draco is the only reason Harry comes to the club anymore. Tonight, there's a new kind of intimacy to be found outside the neon noise.
little luminaries (2022, G - E, 2.5k total) - fifty short stories, fifty new ways to fall in love with Drarry through Starry’s words. This is a spectacular sample of their genius mind and beautiful prose, exploring all the takes and tropes you could imagine within 50 concise and magical words. A delicious collection of bite-size treats for all kinds of moods and days!
Fifty 50-word Draco/Harry microfics in various genres, mostly romance/HEA.
Confessions in a Lover's Whorl (2021, T, 2.6k) - this impeccable Draco POV full of hope and longing tells the love of a lifetime within 3k. It’s so precious and moving to witness him watching Harry, a private and intimate little moment exposed to our eyes and heart only. The ending makes me tear up every time and it’s a crime this doesn’t have more comments. If you wanna read only one thing today, choose this fic.
In the mornings when Harry remains asleep, Draco tracks the stories of their life together in the lines of Harry’s upturned palm.
Could Have Been a Tragedy (2021, T, 3k) - vamp hunters husbands, that’s what I’m talking about baby!!! This has the exact brand of light and fun intimacy I need in all my established relationship fics pls, their dynamics are a delight and this concept is so cool and inventive! As always this unfolds into so much character and back story, with excellent dialogue and delicious domesticity, A+ power couple vibes.
Covens of dangerous and feral vampires require a special sort of hunter. Luckily, Draco and Harry make just the team, equipped with a frankly absurd number of silver knives and wooden stakes.
In the Garden After Dark (2021, M, 3.5k) - I am simply obsessed with this Unspeakable universe with teams of three, and by Starry’s sharp, evocative and melancholy exploration of grief and loneliness. The Drarry dynamics sharing love and pain hit me right on the solar plexus and I wanna know all about their complicated jobs and lives! Haunting and moving.
Unspeakables work in teams of three, but when Draco and Harry lost their third, Draco left too. Now he's back, Illusion magic stronger than ever, and Harry is less lonely in his arms.
Of Mirrors, Myths, and Men (2021, E, 5.4k) - imho this is one of Starry’s sexiest stories with superb UST, ballroom romance, handyman wolf Harry & Veela Draco coming together in a lush, hot and poetic way! I just love the seductive vibes here, how they quietly gravitate towards each other building anticipation, which culminates with a breathtaking mirror sex scene that lives rent free in my mind! Trust me, you gotta read this one 🔥
After years of renovations on the Manor, Draco has one room left: the Ballroom. Harry Potter’s repair skills come highly recommended. But from the moment Potter stepped foot in the Manor, something burned between them, far more compelling than Draco could have ever anticipated.
The Art of the Matter (2021, E, 5.7k) - there’s something magical about seeing Starry in their element - like in this Victorian AU featuring fancy waistcoats and hot fumbling amidst an art heist (!!!) - that leaves me in awe of their writing. The detailed historical setting, the charming flirty dynamics, the intensity of their get together (never enough time, even after seven years!), the mystery behind the painting, the exciting thrill surrounding the heist! This feels both familiar and original, fun and sexy and full of vibrant details that make the story jump out of the screen.
Someone has been casting increasingly awful curses on artworks, targeting Muggle viewers. Draco and Harry are one of the best cursebreaking teams around despite their penchant for distraction in cloak closets. Their latest case? A Muggle portrait in the Paris Salon with a virulent blood curse.
Saltwater Stain (2021, M, 9k) - @tackytigerfic and I will never stop screaming about how brilliant this dark-ish fic is - downright creepy and fascinating it will confuse seduce your mind like a siren with its contemplative and surreal atmosphere, plus the sublime devastation of Harry’s longing for Draco. Incredible setting and vibes, one of the most intriguing, disturbing and well-executed pieces I’ve ever read.
Seven days stuck on a boat investigating a rogue ghost wouldn't be so bad if Harry didn't want Draco so much. Draco has his rules and Harry's content to follow them, but the air feels different away from the shore. Is it possible that the sea could offer Harry something impossible on land?
Rare pairs
Autumn in the Air (2021, T, 1.7k) - the way I ran to check this when I saw that Starry had written DRON! This is a darling, intriguing and moving short. I love the building tension, the slow creeping realization something’s wrong, their soft mutual longing for each other. A treat to soothe my poor multi-shipper heart!
Draco had never been here before.
Surface Texture (2021, E, 6.3k) - I can’t even think about this Harry/Teddy without getting choked up, this has everything I’ve ever wanted for my favorite rare pair, and it’s a joy to experience how hot and devoted they are to each other. Artist Teddy finding his muse in this sexy and mature Harry gave me goosebumps, I could taste their want and the sexual tension as if I were right there by their side, and despite the sinfully scorching smut this has an incredible amount of introspection and tenderness, as per Starry’s brand. A masterpiece! Don’t forget to check @bluebutter-art’s brilliant art for it here.
I've drawn a hundred portraits, but none quite like Harry's. In the early hours of the morning, I lay him bare in charcoal and paper.

How I comprehend pointers (in rust)
the main pointer types are:
&T
&mut T
Box<T>
they each have different properties;
&T can read T, but the compiler (borrow checker) statically analyzes your code to make sure that no writes occur to the pointee while there is a reference to it.
&mut T allows mutability, though only by it, and the compiler makes sure nothing reads from T while there is a mutable reference, and that there is only one mutable reference to T at at time.
Box<T> is fairly different, to own a box to T is to own a T, it automatically drops T when it's dropped, and it always points to the heap.
one of the interesting parts is when you decouple these types from their behavior (I comprehend types as pairings of data and behavior), their all the same, their a usize integer that points to a byte. there is no fundamental difference to what usize*, &T, &mut T, and Box<T> store. the difference is all in compiler checks and behavior, the Drop trait for Box<T> tells the computer to run drop on T, where as the other two just drop themselves.
Wide Pointers
there is another important component to pointers, 'metadata', as best as I can tell a pointer is equivalent to (usize, T::metadata), metadata coming from the (unstable) Pointee trait, and it's what makes a pointer wide or thin. Pointee is defines metadata as a type other than unit (()) for three types, slices ([T]), str, and dyn Trait. slices store the number of elements as usize, str does bytes, and dyn Trait stores another pointer to it's vtable.
for slices and str this allows the program to know how long the array at the end is, so that you can iterate til the end, and for bounds checking, as well as how &[T] can be obtained from [T][{Range}] and know where it's bounds are, the pointer points to the range's lower bound-th element (or the first element if it's not lower bounded), and the upper bound is stored in the metadata as the difference from the first element in the borrow. I don't really want to get into what vtable does here though.
Points to where though?
this is FAR beyond the scope of my knowledge here, so maximum 'grain of salt' here. I envision three spaces a pointer points to, I consider them large chunks of contiguous, but largely ineffable memory.
the Stack where your local variables and execution is
the Heap where larger or unsized data goes
the Binary where you're functions, vtables, and string literals are stored (that's why string literals are &'static str) everything here is unwritable and it holds the actual 'program' part of your program
*as I get to later, wide pointers are a bit more than a usize
