The thing about Din is that no one could spell his full name at first and now THIS. They're fully trolling us.

Has anyone ever read a fanfic that spelled a character's name differently and then you have to remind yourself that other people's interpretations exist
I'll give an example, therefore exposing what type of fanfiction I actually read:
Other fanfics: Din Djarin 😁👍
That one fanfic: Dyn Jarren 😈⛓️🔥
I love the writer but I will not stand for this.

No hate but I was wondering why you spell it as 'Dyn' and not 'Din'?
lmao you're good, it's not the first time I've been asked this, and I've been writing our beloved tin can since s1 before we got a name for him - there was a period of time where everyone was guessing how to spell it once we did get a name bc the official spelling hadn't been released and wasn't for a while. 'Dyn' was the most popular version of his first name and I went with it because I thought it was dope and kept it after we got the official spelling. 'Din' just didn't feel right to me after that idk.

Wait I didnt watch the mandalorian until like six months ago - what is the whole dyn jarren thing? Did Disney retcon the spelling of his name or did the fans just assume that’s how it was spelled at first? I see it in ao3 tags sometimes and am so confused.
It’s not a story the Mandalorians would tell you.
Back on November 12, 2019, the day The Mandalorian premiered for the first time, an interview came out with Pedro from the set of Chapter 1. He talked a bit about the show and his character, whose name he revealed for the first time. Since he said it and didn’t spell it—and there weren’t any accurate subtitles—we had no idea how it was spelled.
So, we guessed. Dyn Jarren was the phonetic spelling we used for TWO!!!! MONTHS! Until Moff Gideon said his name for the first time in Chapter 8 and the subtitles unveiled Din Djarin.
Lives were changed. Tears were shed. Usernames were altered. No one was ever the same, and Din Djarin was born.

Maybe it was the rugged bounty-hunting outfit, the scrappy way she’d fought him for the knife, or the Jedi thing, but the woman standing in front of him wasn’t how Din had pictured the Princess of Alderaan.
Absolutely sweet and delightful!

Naming in the Mandalorian (Season 3 Finale Spoilers!)
I find it absolutely hilarious how in the Mandalorian the main characters’ names KEEP CHANGING and the fandom KEEPS MESSING IT UP. Hold up, I’ll explain.
If you were on AO3 reading Mandalorian fanfiction DURING season 1 of the show, you would know all the Mandalorian fics had the Mandalorian’s name as “Dyn Jarren”. This is because Din Djarin’s name wasn’t revealed until the season finale, but Pedro Pascal said it in an interview months before. Nobody knew how to spell it, but most people agreed on “Dyn Jarren” for some reason. When the season finale finally revealed Mando’s name (or, more importantly, Disney+ subtitles revealed the proper spelling) all the fics had to go back and change it.
Between season 1 and season 2 of the Mandalorian, nobody knew Baby Yoda’s name. So, a lot of fics invented their own - usually having Din come up with a name. After season 2, Baby Yoda was finally revealed to be named Grogu and fics gradually changed to reflect that.
Between season 2 and season 3 of the Mandalorian, some people had Din more formally adopt Grogu and named him “Grogu Djarin”. I read several fics where Grogu was called that. And NOW with the “Din Grogu” reveal of the Season 3 finale, those are all wrong. Worst, it looks like “Din” was Din Djarin’s LAST name all along, making every fic where the romantic interest calls him “Din” look like idiots.
I hope the Mandalorian continues to fuck around with their names every season. This is glorious.
