📖 Fic rec time! When you get this, reply with three fics that you've read and loved to pieces, then pass on to at least five other people who read fics. Let’s appreciate fic writers and their amazing stories 💖
Better late than never with this one! <3 I remain woefully behind on my reading, and I am SO sorry for that, writing fanfic and reading fanfic are often very hard for me to do simultaneously (focus issues), but I always love recommending the few things I've read and loved.
SotWK 3 Fic Recommendations: Multi-Chapter, Canon x OC Picks
Dwalin Has a Bad Day (Dwalin x OC) by @lathalea - I know there are Dwalin lovers out there--this fluffy rom-com is a MUST read for you! Apart from the (always) amazing writing, colorful worldbuilding, loveable OCs, and innovative headcanon concepts ("dwelf"!) abound. When it comes to Dwarves, Latha is one of my go-to experts.
A Shooting Star (Thorin x OC) by @linasofia - This is one of the few fics I had the privilege of following all the way through as it was being written, and that says a lot since that means it utterly captivated my pitiful attention span. Lina writes Thorin sooooo well, in the gorgeous manner Richard Armitage portrayed him, and that is what I love in my Thorin fics. Very lovely OC that you would absolutely cheer for, and you are treated to life in Erebor after its reclamation! (Dude, Thorin is alive, where have you been??)
Burn Like Cold Iron (Boromir x OC) by @scyllas-revenge - I almost feel silly putting this on a rec list because this fic is legend in the Boromir fandom. (Like, hi, hello, have you heard of this movie called "Star Wars"? It's kind of walking up to someone and asking them that.) I love fics that draw me in despite not falling into my usual preferences (Modern Girl OC in this case), and this defines that. Scylla also nails a fluffy, genuinely funny brand of humor that I have yet to see matched by any other writer, so if you like that sort of thing, browse her entire masterlist while you're at it. This fic has its own fandom, so if you don't want to take my word for it, take the word of all those other admirers!
Go forth and feast, my friends! And remember--please tip (reblog/comment/kudos) your writers! <3

Fluffuary 2023 Day 11: Fireplace- Dwalin x OC
Tumblr media
Dwalin x Astrea
Description: After Astrea spends just a bit too long outside in the snow she comes home to her displeased husband.
Word Count: 1.3k
Challenge made by the lovely @darthglitterfanfiction
Tumblr media
Winter was already coming in strong for the people of Erebor. The snow had already begun to fall, and it was only November! It was the people’s first winter back in the kingdom and everyone was more than excited to experience snowfall in their homes again (or for the first time in some cases). Dwarves were naturally built to withstand such low temperatures. At most they just wore a few layers and they were all good. Astrea, being a Hobbit, was unfortunately not. That meant she could only be outside for a few minutes before she had to go back inside lest she catch hypothermia.
Her husband Dwalin always made sure to remind her of that when she was layering up to go outside. Despite his gruff demeanor, he was actually a very caring and attentive husband. She would even say that it was a bit overbearing at times because his urge to keep her away from any and all potential harm was impalpable. It was unfortunate and even a bit annoying, she knew that he was just worried about her because he loved her. And she appreciated it, so she dealt with it and always made sure not to stay out for long.
Today was different, however. As winter began to set in, snow had fallen several inches overnight and people were ecstatic to play in the snow. Astrea’s daily chores had been interrupted by none other than Fili and Kili, who had decided to invite her to join them as well as Celeste and Nessa in the snow while Dwalin was at work in the palace.
“It’s not like you’ll have anything else to do,” Kili pointed out eagerly. “All you do is sit at home waiting for your darling husband to return.” There was a teasing lilt to his voice when he said ‘darling husband’ that made the Hobbit roll her eyes playfully, though she ultimately found herself nodding.
“Oh, very well. Let me get into something warmer.” The Dwarves cheered as she headed to her and Dwalin’s shared bedroom to get dressed.
She ultimately changed into some warm pants and a long sleeve shirt. After slipping on a coat and scarf she decided she was ready. Of course it probably wasn’t actually enough to keep her warm, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. The prospect of actually being outside for more than a few minutes was much too exciting for her to think about it for long. Instead she followed the Princes (or, at least tried to, considering her legs were much shorter than theirs) out to where the girls were waiting for them.
“Well, it’s about time you showed up,” Celeste joked. Kili began to make (what he probably thought would be) a witty response, but he was interrupted when Nessa suddenly scooped up a snowball and threw it at him. It nailed him directly in the face, making the others burst into laughter as he stared at her in shock. After a moment he got over it as an idea seemed to hit him (based on the look on his face).
“Oh yeah?” He asked with a mischievous smile on his face, dipping down to make a snowball of his own and throw it at her. It hit Nessa in the chest and slid down her tunic, making her gasp and shudder as she tried to wipe it off. She paused when she heard Astrea laughing at her, and she faced the Hobbit girl.
“And what are you laughing at?” She asked, scooping the snow off her tunic and flicking it at her.
“Oh you are so going to pay for that!” She laughed jovially, also crouching down to make a snowball and throwing it back at her. Both Kili and Nessa ducked so it ended up hitting Celeste, who stood on the other side of the Elf. This continued between them until it turned into a full blown snowball fight.
They stayed outside for hours. When they got bored of the snowball fight they decided to make a snowman. And when they finished that they continued finding things to do. It was the most fun Astrea ever had. She hadn’t realized how long they’d spent time outside until Fili pointed out that the sun was already setting. Her eyes widened when she realized he was right. Oh no, Dwalin always got home around this time. There was no way she’d be able to warm herself up before he sees her.
“Would you like us to walk you home, Mrs. Astrea?” Celeste asked the Hobbit, interrupting her thoughts. Immediately she put on a smile and shook her head.
“Oh, no dear. I’ll be okay. It’s less than five minutes, I’ll likely be home before the sun has fully set,” she brushed off. The others looked unsure at first, but at her urging they wished her goodnight and headed back to the palace. Once she was alone Astrea sighed and turned, trudging her way home.
There was smoke coming out of the chimney when she walked up to the house, which confirmed her theory of her husband being home. Once at the door she took a moment to prepare herself for the lecture she was about to receive, then finally opened the door as quietly as she could and stepped inside. Dwalin sat by the fireplace, where a fire roared in front of him as he moved the embers around. He didn’t face her as he spoke.
“I’ve run your bath. Go warm yourself up,” he instructed, grabbing a few more logs and feeding them to the fire. Astrea wanted to retort that she wasn’t a child, and that he didn’t need to talk to her like one. But by that point she was too tired to argue, so she did as he said and walked to their bathroom.
It didn’t take her long to clean up and warm herself, but she still spent quite a while in the bath. She didn’t want to face her husband and see his disappointed face. Eventually her water started getting cold, so she got out and dried off, changing into the warm pajamas that Dwalin had set out for her before finally walking out to the living room. Dwalin was staring at the fire in front of him as he waited for her once again, but this time he actually looked at her when she walked in.
“I’m not mad,” was the first thing he said as she took a seat beside him. “I don’t wish for you to believe that I am. I just worry about you, Astrea. Winters here are colder than they were back in the Blue Mountains and I don’t want you to catch your death from it. You’re much smaller than the other inhabitants of Erebor.” Astrea stayed silent for a minute as she thought over his words.
“I understand your concern, my love,” she started slowly. “But you cannot expect me to just stay cooped up in the house all winter as if I am a bear hibernating. I wish to go outside and have fun with our friends. And I understand that I am smaller than almost everyone else, but that does not mean that I’ve no common sense. I know my limits, and I know when to come inside or how much I should layer up. I am not a child, I am your wife, and I think you should have a little more faith in me.” Now it was Dwalin’s turn to remain silent. He stared at the fire for a minute or two, then he sighed.
“You’re right, I shouldn’t be treating you like this,” he finally said. “I’m sorry.” A small smile formed on the girl’s face as she scooted closer to him. She was practically nestled into his side, prompting him to wrap his arm around her.
“You’re forgiven. I love you, Dwalin.” A fond smile appeared on her husband’s face.
“I love you too.” With that, he pressed a kiss to her forehead before the two of them faced the fireplace once again, ready to spend the rest of the night in front of it with each other.

Trying to decide the content I want to put on Tumblr and the content I want to put on AO3. I have a bunch of oc centric stuff that I'm nervous to show off. Posting makes me nervous as it is. Tumblr itself makes me nervous. But I want to create content for others to read and to enjoy just as I enjoy writing them. I might start taking a few requests.... but please don't feel bad if I don't get to all of them. But to those who do follow me I would like to know what ya'll feel about me actually posting content on Tumblr again.
Fandoms I write for (Or currently have content of)...
-Hellboy
-TMNT (2003-2009 series, 2007 movie, Bayverse movies)
-The hobbit (Maybe requested LOTR)
-Transformers (G1, Earthspark, Prime, Animated, Movies)

The night hung quiet and peaceful over the small town of hobbits, many of the locals already tucked cozily away into bed. But at the top of the hill, with an emerald green door, lay a hobbit hole with a winding trail of smoke rising from the chimney. Warm light spills from the windows as a limber, cloaked figure makes their way silently to the door with the small glowing mark. The well kept garden path was encircled by a small wooden fence, the wood remained unpainted but smooth. The gate slowly creaks closed, and the small path crunches beneath the boots of the mysterious figure. Raising a hand to the door the figure delivers a sharp knock, and the sounds of conversation and movement behind the firm wooden door quiets before a solitary set of footfalls approach the door. As the knob turns and the door swings open, a gust of warm air ruffles the cloak of the newcomer. A small hobbit stands in the open space, blonde curly hair ruffled. the figure bows, and with a slight lilt to her voice says, "Eyja, at your service, you're Mister Baggins I presume?"
Rising to meet the smalls mans gaze, the hobbit gives a small nod and shuffles back a step, leaving room for woman to enter the small entry room. Removing her cloak allowing her waved brown hair to fall free and the light from inside to catch on the rings of metal in her lip and ears, she hangs the dark fabric on the wall and lays down her long slender blade on a small chest.
The sound of voices comes from down the hall and as Bilbo moves towards the sounds of ruckus, Eyja follows on nearly silent feet. Rounding the corner, her gaze is met with 13 dwarves all laughing and shouting, and one taller man in grey robes.
"Ah there we are, Thorin, this is the shifter I was telling you about," Gandalf's calm voice drifts across the room and Eyja turns to see the wizard and the raven haired dwarf watching her, "Eyja, this is Thorin Oakenshield the King Under the Mountain." The dwarf nods briefly, as she bows.
"Your majesty." Thorin stands, and the rest of the group quickly falls quiet. Bilbo moves to stand beside the grey wizard as Thorin begins to detail the quest they will be going on, and how the dwarfs will receive no assistance from the dwarven kingdoms of their kin.
"We are here to collect a burglar, and a shifter to assist us in our adventure." Thorin's cool gaze drifts from Bilbo to Eyja, drawing the rest of the companies eyes to the two aforementioned people.
Gandalf clears his throat, and places a map upon the table, "The journey to Erebor will be long and treacherous, but with this map we will find a way into the mountain, where our burglar will be able to find the Arkenstone, and in the worst case scenario where the dragon awakens Eyja will be there to handle it quickly." Gazes travel to the woman in the corner, wondering how she would be able to best Smaug the Terrible.
A dwarf with a dark mustache, pipe and large hat raises his hand and interrupts the wizard, "Now, no offence lass, but how is that wee girl meant to kill the infamous Smaug the terrible, the greatest calamity of the age?" Eyja raises her head watching as Gandalf brings up his own pipe, taking a large puff before sighing, leaning back in his chair he begins to explain.
"Master Bofur, Eyja is a skin changer, one of the very few that still roam Middle-Earth, now shifters often turn into great beasts, but she can shift into a dragon large enough to rival the size of the one currently residing in your mountain." At those words all heads turn swiftly to the woman who stands in the corner, picking at her nails. The dwarf, that she now knows is named Bofur, nods and brings his pipe to his mouth.
The other dwarfs murmur to themselves about the newest information about the only female member of the company. Bilbo however speaks up from behind the monarch, "What were you saying about a dragon?" The fear in his voice is evident in the way it warbles a bit at the end. Bofur speaks once more, going into detail about Smaug took over the mountain years ago, leaving Thorin's people to wander in search of a new home, and how those who tried to fight against the beast were scorched beyond recognition, which all lead to the small hobbit fainting.
"Eyja if you would be so kind to carry Master Baggins to his bed, so he may recover." Gandalf's soft voice breaks the silence that followed the hollow thud of Bilbo's body hitting the floor. Moving forward the shifter swiftly scoops up the burglar and begins to wander the halls attempting to find the bedroom of the company's host.
The pitter patter of feet follow her down the hall and a tall dwarf with dark hair and a shadow of stubble begins to walk beside her before bounding ahead to look into rooms. Once the two successfully find the room, Eyja gently places Mister Baggins upon the bed and both the dwarf and the shifter exit the room. "I'm Kili," the dwarrow breaks the silence while they walk slowly back to the rest of the company, "are there many other shifters like you in Middle-Earth?"
Eyja smiles at the young dwarfs curiosity, turning her head to meet Kili's dark gaze she slows her pace even more, "There were once many shifters roaming the world, for we were here before all else, we lived as one with the land and we a happy people. We protected those who could not protect themselves. But now," She brings in a ragged breath, "there are merely two left." Her walk ceases and she turns to face the warrior fully, "When the orcs first came they killed many of the shifters, capturing the rest, as it brought them amusement to torture us in cages and chains." There is a sullen pause where Eyja's hand drift to the sleeves that cover her wrists, old pain swimming in her yellowish gaze. "As far as I am aware, only two of us were able to escape the painful death we would have received, me, and Beorn; a mighty man who shifted into a great bear. Once free of the orcs grip we separated to find hidden corners of the world where we could remain safe."
Kili stands across from the woman mouth open, eyes wide, he had never meant to bring up painful memories and now the shifters eyes darken with the memories of her past. "Forgive me, I never meant to-"
She silences him quickly with a wave of her hand and a dry chuckle, "It is no worries master dwarf, you had no knowledge of it, those are old memories that I must learn to deal with eventually." Her lips close, and her golden eyes soften, "Besides, it is aways nice to talk of the times before the orcs came." The two grow silent, a contented peace settling as they continue back to the company. Returning to the table, Eyja finds the dwarfs dispersed amongst the residence setting up bedrolls and beginning to relax in preparation for the long journey ahead of them. Though Thorin stands by the door speaking with an older dwarf with a long silver beard. Kili turns to the woman again face turned up towards her with a gentle smile playing on his lips,
"I am going to go find my brother, so until tomorrow madam shifter." he bows his head a little and his grins widens at Eyja's quiet laugh.
"Just Eyja is fine, goodnight to you as well Kili." Turning away from the dwarrow the woman wanders away in search of the meddlesome grey wizard who had summoned her to Hobbiton.

Do you know anyone who writes for dwalin? I can't seem to find many dwalin writers
P.s I am so much loving your fili fic 😍
Hello Anon,
I am honored you came to me for recommendations and am thrilled to direct your attention to my favorite Dwalin multi-chapter work by @lathalea: Dwalin Has A Bad Day (5 chapters long so far). She's a very popular writer in The Hobbit fandom, so I just don't know if you've found this fic already. It's amaaaaazing!
The only other writer friend I have who does Dwalin fics (that I am sure of) is the very talented @middleearthpixie! Please check out the Dwalin section of her Masterlist here: LINK.
If you need more recs than this, please just say so and I'm sure I can help hunt down more! I know people who surely know people.
(Friends reading this, please recommend any Dwalin fics or writers you might know!)
P.S. Thank you for your kind words on my Fili fic--I'm glad you're enjoying it! New chapters should come soon, but in the meantime, please also stay tuned for more Fili x Reader one-shots that I have in the works!

~The Best Of Intentions~
Chapter 13
This chapter is still a little bit too rough for my personal taste, but I am at a loss as to what else I can do with it. THis entire fic is a roough draft, and i plan to flesh it out once I've finished. I am planning on making this a trilogy of sorts. The ideas and direction i want to take are just too much for one book length fic.
Any constructive critisism is most welcome.
*Another important author note! I realize the approach I'm taking with Arda historical events/family ties is not exact according to canon. I have done alot of reading and research and I am weaving my OC and her people in. The timeline on certain events may speed up due to certain *changes* that occur. The dwarven history is so rich and fascinating and i have really enjoyed adding my own little twists.
Hope you enjoy! Happy trails.

Chapter 12
The next week passed in a dreamlike blur. Mistlynn found herself swept up in a whirlwind of erratic emotions, the first being excitement and wonder in her newly established relationship with the formidable King Under the Mountain.
She was scared to label it as love and felt it unfair to brand it as such when she couldn't even understand what that kind of love was. This was obviously different from the love she felt for her father, Argos, and even Valinn. Not the same as the love she held for Luna.
This feeling she felt for him came from deep within her. It was fire, all-consuming. Heated. The desire and need to see and be with him was growing stronger with each passing day, she couldn't deny that even if she tried. It was the kind of emotion that made her heart ache, yearning for his presence when she could not see him throughout the day.
This struggle of not knowing led perfectly into the second emotion of an all-encompassing fear. She was not as naïve to think that she was going to live life as she always had. Besides the obvious changes in her living situation, sturdy rock walls and roof, unmovable and sturdy over her head; she was expected to be something that she never had to prove to be before.
A lady. And not just any lady, but a lady about to become a Queen to a living legend of a King, in the mightiest Dwarven Kingdom in all Arda.
If that wasn't a sobering realization, she didn't know what else could be. She had not been prepared for a role of leadership in her kingdom. She had been allowed to pursue her desire to be an in formidable warrior. She would have eventually married another warrior within her kingdom, but no one that held a position of power. She felt woefully unprepared to this life that was suddenly thrust upon her. But she couldn't bring herself to turn back now, she was in too deep with Thorin. Whatever it was she felt for him, she knew she could not walk away from him. She just knew she would fade, like a fire slowly losing the air that encouraged it to burn. She had to push ahead, and just hope that she wouldn't lose herself in the process.
Which is why she found herself in her current situation. She was wearing another breathtaking gown of Durin's blue perfectly form fitted to her body, her hair a cascade of platinum curls running down her back in tamed waves, and her face enhanced with rouge, eyelash tint, and lip oil. She was holding onto Thorin's arm tightly as she shifted nervously from one foot to another.
"This is just an announcement, M'eudail. There is no need to be nervous." Thorin leaned down to whisper in her ear, sensing her nervousness. His low timbre would have had its normal calming affect if it had been any other occasion.
"The King of Mirkwood and Dale are currently awaiting with all of Erebor to hear of our engagement Thorin, not an update on the weather or your recent trade agreement with Rohan." Mistlynn's smile was forced through clenched teeth as she stared resolutely at the door that would lead them out to the Hall of Kings.
Thorin looked down at her, his expression not hiding his concern. His other hand came to rest on top of hers. He was about to speak as Dis, Fili, Kili, Dwalin and Balin walked up behind them.
"Ready?" Balin smiled.
"As ready as I can be." Mistlynn groused, shifting again. Her tone made guilt jab Thorin in the gut. He was about to ask if she would like to be excused from accompanying him when a loud clatter of metal hitting the ground captured everyone's attention.
Thorin caught the slight twitch of her lips as she let a curse slip out under her breath. He raised an eyebrow. "What was that?" His tone had slight amusement coloring it.
She cleared her throat before crouching down and removing one of her daggers from underneath her skirts. Fili and Kili standing behind them concealed their laughs poorly, their shoulders shaking as they fought the urge to laugh out loud.
"Mistlynn! What on Mahal's green earth! Where did you get that?!" Dis gasped as she took the dagger from Mistlynn's hand before shooting her sons an accusing glare.
"It's difficult to properly attach a sheath on one's leg when wearing a fully cinched corset I'll have you know." Mistlynn huffed, trying to not make eye contact with any of her companions. Thorin started shaking his head as he started to chuckle.
“What are ye thinkin ya need a dagger for lass?" Dwalin couldn't disguise the humor in his voice, talking over the pained gasps of Fili and Kili who were losing the fight to not laugh.
"It never hurts to be prepared, Master Dwalin. Dinners and events have plenty of opportunity for enemies to take advantage of one's guard being down." She gestured emphatically, in turn making Thorin bite his bottom lip to fight the smile threatening to take over his face.
“Sounds like my kind of dinner." Dwalin groused as he shot Thorin an amused look.
"I don't know what kind of events you've experienced, my dear, but I assure you such measures are not needed." Balin chuckled, shaking his head his head at his brother's remark.
Dis gave her sons a stern look. Kili was wiping his eyes as tears of mirth rolled down his cheeks as Fili rubbed his face as he fought to get his snickering under control. She held out her hand to Mistlynn. "I know you Mist!" she growled. "Hand them over. Now."
Mistlynn's eyes widened before narrowing as she put her hands on her hips. "I should be allowed at least one weapon on my person!"
"Oh, I know for a fact you have more than one! Now hand them over." Dis stepped closer, her tone and expression giving no room for argument.
The two dams glared at each other challengingly, before Mistlynn rolled her eyes and growled in defeat. "Fine!" She lifted her skirts, making Balin and Dwalin turn away swiftly in surprise, Dwalin sputtering in shock as Balin just chortled as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "She is Thorin's One, are you truly surprised?" he asked aloud.
At his comment, Fili and Kili lost the fight and burst out in breathless laughter while Thorin's eyebrows disappeared into his hairline as he watched, dagger after dagger emerge from underneath her skirts. Mist shoved each one, along with their sheaths into Dis's waiting arms.
By the time Mistlynn was done, Dis was holding six daggers and sheathes in her arms, her look full of sarcasm and resignation. "What? No war mount? I'm almost disappointed." Dis drawled, as she turned and handed the weapons to a shocked guard.
Mistlynn straightened out her skirts with sharp, jerky movements. "That would be in my wedding gown." She replied dryly.
Thorin snorted loudly and covered his mouth with his hand, as his nephews continued to die from laughter behind him. They were now leaning against each other, as Dwalin surprisingly gave in and joined in on the laughter.
Balin ran his hands down his beard as he fought to tame his chuckles. "Alright, now that's done. We don't want to keep our guests waiting." He shot a reprimanding look over his shoulder at the princes and his brother, but the sternness was lost as he watched them fight to control their mirth.
Thorin was still standing next to the disgruntled warrior princess, his hands crossed over his chest as he looked up towards the ceiling, trying to get his expression under control. "Six? Were six truly necessary?"
Mistlynn huffed. "If I am to be expected to wear these death traps on a daily basis, I need to ascertain the best way to carry my weapons on my person and how to move in them without tripping myself."
“It appears you can retire now Dwalin." Kili snickered, prompting a harmless glare from the fierce warrior. "Mist can protect us poor, defenseless nobles."
"Utter nonsense, Mist. As future queen, it is unseemly to carry such weaponry within your own kingdom. One dagger perhaps. Not the whole armory!" Dis scolded, as her keen eyes scanned her friends figure suspiciously.
Mistlynn raised her chin defiantly as she wrapped her arm through Thorin's arm. Dis stepped in front of her and snapped her fingers and held her hand out demandingly. "Hand it over."
"Dis! She gave you everything!" Thorin protested, eager to move on with their evening.
“No, she didn't. Last one Mist, I mean it!" Dis stood resolute, authority seeping from her.
Mistlynn rolled her eyes while letting out a frustrated growl. Thorin watched in shock along with everyone else as his fiancé sucked in a deep breath and reached down in between her breasts. After a moment of adjusting herself, she pulled out a long, thin lethal looking dagger with a very lithe sheath over its deadly blade.
Dwalin threw his head back and laughed uproariously, slamming his hand on Thorin's back who was still staring, his jaw agape in shock. The princes joined in on the laughter anew, their laughs becoming pained gasps as they clutched their aching stomachs. "She puts you to shame brother!" Kili gasped between bouts of laughter.
Thorin was now sharing an incredulous look with his sister. "M'eudail, I'm starting to get the impression you think I am incapable of protecting you in my own kingdom."
"You and every male in this kingdom gets to walk around with their weapons at their side. Why am I not allowed the same privilege? Instead, I am made to wear these cumbersome gowns and these infernal shoes that make it nearly impossible to walk, let alone run!" Mistlynn's voice hid none of her frustration.
"It is the duty of Dwarrow's to protect their women. All dams are precious and are to be protected at all costs. Dam's may be trained in self-defense with a weapon but to have you fully armed would be seen as an insult to Thorin's ability to care and protect you." Balin explained patiently, not at all surprised that Mistlynn was struggling with this matter.
The fire in Mistlynn's eyes diminished slightly. "That was not my intention. I just feel defenseless and that I'm good for nothing but a trophy." Her tone was bitter, and she didn't recognize her error until it was too late to take back. The snickering from Fili and Kili stopped abruptly. Dwalin and Balin looked away uncomfortably. Thorin breathed in deeply and glanced at Dis with an apology evident in his eyes. Dis held her hand up, signaling that she would handle the situation.
Dis pulled herself to her full height, as she looked down at Mistlynn with feigned patience. "We are so much more than a 'trophy' as you so eloquently put it." She stated emotionlessly. "We support our men, and our kingdom by fighting with our wits, with our carefully chosen words. We are not rash, we think before we act, before we speak." She scolded coolly, making Mistlynn's face flush in shame. "You may be an accomplished fighter, and more capable defending yourself physically than any dam here in Erebor. But remember that you are not in your kingdom, and that you are indeed a stranger here. A stranger that needs to learn our customs and our social decorum; and accept the fact that things are done differently here, and that they are in place for good reason. You are to become Erebor's Queen, and more importantly, a wife to my brother and you must humble yourself and accept that you are no longer free to act without reaping the consequences of such childish actions."
"Dis." Thorin broke the awkward silence, "She didn't mean it as insult to you."
Dis sighed. "I know, but better she hears it from me than somebody else with a sharper tongue who only wants to see her fail." She grabbed Mistlynn's chin, who had been looking at her feet to hide her flaming face and forced her to look up. "Never bow your head. You take the criticism, and you learn from it. In front of our people, we must never show weakness, this I know you can do well. We will finish this discussion later."
Mistlynn swallowed thickly and nodded, keeping her eyes adverted from meeting anyone's gaze. She could feel Fili and Kili's sympathetic looks from behind her as they fell into place by Dis, behind her and Thorin.
"Let's proceed Balin." Thorin nodded towards the door as he took Mistlynn's hand and placed it through the crook of his arm. He squeezed her hand comfortingly as he led her after Balin. She couldn't bring herself to squeeze back, as the doors opened, and a deafening roar of cheering and clapping flooded her ears. She forced a smile onto her face as she stepped out on her One's arm.
*********************
She navigated the evening in a distant haze. She had always had the tendency to drift, to detach herself from situations and people in moments of duress. She knew she was safe, and she knew that she was surrounded by friends and those who cared for her. She just couldn't help the feeling of mortification that had swallowed her after Dis's thorough tongue lashing. She knew she deserved it, without question. She had behaved abhorrently due to this desperation she found herself fighting in her moments alone.
She couldn't associate a reason to it, other than the simple fact that she found herself being pulled into a new orbit, away from what she knew. She knew it was for the better, that she chose this path for herself. She didn't want to live a lie any longer, and the world was so vast and full of wonder. Full of promises for a good life. She was now living a good life, with Thorin, with her new friends and this beautiful city that had arisen from the ashes like a victorious phoenix. It was poetic, really. She had arisen from near death, after losing all that had mattered to her in a world that no longer held anything for her; and had been given a new life, full of the promises of love and beauty.
So why was she fighting it? Why was she so scared of it?
She smiled and nodded to all their well-wishers, her hand holding onto Thorin's muscular forearm tightly. Her cheeks were aching, feeling as if her smile was permanently etched onto her face. She had the perfect answers for each question, showing off her quick wit and gift for effortless, well natured banter.
King Bard accompanied by his beautiful daughters had been a pleasure to meet. His well wishes had been heartfelt, and she found herself thankful they were such close neighbors and allies.
She had spotted King Thranduil across the room as he made his way towards them accompanied by Tauriel and another tall male elf with the same platinum hair as the king. They were impossible to miss, how they seemingly floated across the floor effortlessly.
Besides Tauriel, they were the only pure elves she had ever met. It was startling to see they had the same color hair as hers. Her family were the only ones in the White Kingdom to have the platinum blonde hair, and it had been viewed it as a sign of their royal lineage. She knew that pure elves were immortal, and that there was a strong possibility Thranduil had personally known or knew of her ancestors.
Panic seized her. Was he a distant relative of the slain king? Was he going to seek revenge for the assassination of Thingol and the resulting downfall of Menegroth? She knew her ancestors in Belegost bore none of Nogrod's dispute over the Nauglamir, and since the priceless necklace was forever lost to the sea amidst the ruins of Beleriand, their innocence was not easy to prove. They were just as blood guilty in the eyes of all elves, this she knew. It had been ingrained in her from her teachings on her grandfather's lap. Thorin still didn't know the details of her ancestors and their story. The possibility that her association as Thorin's betrothed could ruin all alliances with Mirkwood if Thranduil knew or suspected her lineage. She couldn't let that happen.
Dain, who had been standing next to her and Thorin with Sindri on his arm, noticed Mistlynn's face was paler than usual and looked to see who was approaching. "Och now lass, pay the pretty tree shagger no mind, eh? He's harmless, too afraid to muck up his pretty hair." He whispered over to her conspiringly.
Sindri smacked his arm in admonition. "They can probably hear, ya great lummox." She seethed, as she shared a long-suffering look with Thorin.
"Just trying to assist the poor lass, she looks like she's seen a ghost." Dain grumbled.
Mistlynn couldn't even bring herself to smile at his attempt of humor as she watched them approach. The events of the day were beginning to weigh on her heavily, and this rather abrupt reminder of her family and kingdom unsettled her greatly. Thorin found her hand and squeezed it, drawing her eyes from the Elf King to him. "Are you alright?" he whispered, thankful that she was once again meeting his gaze. She had been avoiding looking at anyone directly since her exchange with Dis. She nodded stiffly, her jaw tense. What worried him most was how haunted her eyes now appeared.
Thorin turned, smiling politely as Thranduil and Legolas reached them with tame smiles on their faces. Tauriel shot a brief look of concern at Mistlynn from where she stood behind her king before bowing gently before Thorin.
"I'm glad to see you were able to join us." He nodded amicably towards the elves. "May I introduce my betrothed, Mistlynn."
Thranduil nodded graciously. "We were honored to receive an invitation to join you in celebrating this happy occasion. I was eager to meet the woman who managed to steal the heart of the King Under the Mountain. It is a pleasure to meet you, my Lady Mistlynn." His bright grey eyes landed on Mistlynn, and she found herself squeezing Thorin's hand tightly. It was hard to read him, and his very presence was imposing. She was told stories of the dynamic presence of elves, but she felt those stories were sorely lacking significant details. It was as if he was seeing right through her, peering into her past of her ancestors and their transgressions. She couldn't help but tremble.
Remembering herself, she curtsied and bowed her head gracefully. She could not allow herself to be cowed. "It is an honor to meet you, King Thranduil."
"I must say, rumors do not do your exquisite beauty justice. Very seldom have I had the pleasure of meeting a dwarrowdam, let alone one of your stunning features. What kingdom is it that you hail from?" He was looking at her, obviously intrigued yet not surprised that her hair color was a near match to his and his son's. It felt like her heart was hammering in the back of her throat. He knew something, there was no question of that.
"A small settlement farther North." Was her edgy reply.
"Interesting. I've heard stories that you ride a Dire-Wolf, my lady. It has been many centuries since I have seen or heard of a Dire Wolf rider, not since the Wars of Beleriand. I believe it was Azaghal of Belegost who rode a white Dire-Wolf when he defeated Glaurung, the Father of dragons."
Her smile was pained as she felt her mask cracking at the mention the famous dwarf warrior king who gave his life to defeat Glaurung. It was his blood that ran through her very veins. She had to change the topic and quickly. "I raised Luna from a pup, and since horses were so hard to come by it was just a natural solution to train her as a mount. Hardly a story of legend."
Thranduil cocked a lofty brow. "Most interesting." His smile was coy, "And you traveled all this way on your own? No kin?"
"No, just me. Last of my kin sadly." She pulled her hand out of Thorin's and stepped off to the side. "I hope you don't mind; I must excuse myself. I am absolutely parched and must seek refreshment."
Thorin looked at her, trying to contain his surprise. "I can have someone fetch you some…"
"I thank you, My King, but I truly don't mind. I could use a brisk walk anyways; this standing is making my feet ache." She hoped fervently that desperation wasn't bleeding through her words, as her eyes implored Thorin to understand her need to leave.
“I could use a drink too, Let me walk with you my dear." Sindri smiled winningly as she stepped behind Thorin to the other side of Mistlynn, linking her arm through hers. Thorin nodded begrudgingly. "Of course. I'll find you later."
Mistlynn tried to not exhale in relief. "It was a pleasure, King Thranduil." She nodded quickly before turning and practically dragging Sindri alongside in her haste.
"The pleasure was mine." Thranduil called after her as they watched her walk off and quickly disappear into the crowd.
The muscle in Thorin's jaw ticked as he stared off in the direction his fiancé disappeared. "I take it you are aware of Mistlynn's true origins. I'm surprised you know so much of dwarven history," His words were tense, still not quite grasping why she had lied to Thranduil. Of all the guests to lie to, honestly.
The Elf King chuckled, much to Thorin's surprise. It was a rare thing for Thranduil to chuckle, let alone while talking with a dwarf. "Belegost and Nogrod were allies to my distant kin in Menegroth. They fought side by side in the Wars of Beleriand and formed the Union of Maedhros. Due to my ties with Beleriand I became curious and made my own inquiries about this mysterious 'White Kingdom' and their origins. I gather she is nervous about me knowing about her rather unique lineage. It isn't hard to deduce that we share common … attributes. Certain characteristics that are not found in your kin, but rather mine."
Thorin swallowed thickly. "You would be correct in that assumption." He crossed his arms over his chest, turning his full attention to Thranduil, eyes flashing with an unspoken challenge.
"Legolas, Tauriel. Would you mind giving us a moment?" They both bowed promptly and left. Thorin turned to his left to see that Dain had managed to quietly wander off without him noticing, probably in search of company that didn't make him so uncomfortable.
"I understand her initial response of withholding such information to a stranger. I will not hold it against her. And after learning about her supposed … lineage and seeing her in person, It lays to rest some of my initial concerns regarding your request to consider a union between your youngest nephew and of my…Emissary."
Thorin raised his eyebrow as a smirk teased the side of his mouth. "That is good to hear. My nephew will be most pleased, as will Tauriel I'm sure."
Thranduil nodded. "We now live in the most interesting of times. And I do share your sentiment that we are stronger together than we are apart, especially with the darkness that is starting to rear its ugly head so close to our borders. My forests are becoming more overrun with this evil each passing day," He paused, and his face became somber. "And I do believe that some of that darkness is heading your way as well. In my search for information, I came across some disturbing stories regarding this White Kingdom. I am not accusing your intended of anything nefarious. But they are not mere nomads. They are a mixed race, all of them, And they possess the unrivaled skillset of both our races, and if my suspicions are correct her line is not to be trifled with."
Thorin cleared his throat, not liking the route this conversation was going. "What are your concerns exactly about her kingdom? She left of her own accord, due to a family tragedy."
Thranduil stepped closer to him. "I could not get a direct answer of their standing number. They are guarding their numbers fiercely. I have heard how skilled your intended is in the art of fighting, and I fear their numbers could easily outnumber ours if they choose to do so. Especially if they are as skilled as her."
"What makes you think they would want to leave their lands to invade ours? What are you not telling me?" Thorin tried to keep his temper level.
"The King of this White Kingdom is said to have one of the last seven rings of your race. And with the evil I know is awakening in our lands, they will not be immune to the influence of that ring if that evil chooses to sway them. You know the power that ring holds." Thranduil watched an old seeded fear flash through the dwarf king's eyes. "Just be aware. Her ancestors that escaped Belegost may have not had any part of Nogrod's treachery, but they lost their kingdom due to the turmoil that followed. They have lost their elven elders due to their fading; we can only speculate what they have been taught regarding our history. There are strong bloodlines of both our races that run strong in her kingdom. We cannot ignore that."
Thorin nodded in understanding, his mind racing with this information. "Thank you for sharing what you have learned. I haven't been able to uncover much, and Mistlynn is very reluctant to share such information."
"Knowing how long her Kingdom has stayed hidden from us, I am not surprised, I am sure she will reveal all to you as time passes. Finding your One is the greatest blessing the Valar has bestowed upon all of us, you both were meant to find one another in this life."
Thorin's smile was faint. The Elf King's words were still racing through his mind. Mistlynn's odd behavior wasn't helping his unease either.
"You said you had your suspicions of her lineage …" he let the statement hang in the air, not quite able to bring himself to ask the question.
Thranduil gave him a knowing look. "That is for your Lady to bestow upon you. After all, it is merely a suspicion of mine."

Copperpot
Tumblr media
@deepestfirefun it’s a cute one. :)
@jesevans, @lilith15000, @theincaprincess, @devilishminx328
...
Right through the open doors of the royal guard station you stormed without any objection in ample notice from the guards who watched you walk right up to Prince Fili and toss a looped rope over his head. Right over his upper arms the rope was drawn tight and the blonde Prince simply shuffled on his feet to face you in the loop of the row around his middle to be followed by a third around his hips.
Looking down at you while you secured a twist of the line to link the two constricting straps he asked, “Good morning Bunny, why are you tying me up?”
“Because I need to talk to Thorin. But only the royal family can speak to the King without appointment.” Sharply you pulled a second binding line right then moved to drop and loop the rope around his thighs as well still under the watch of his brother, uncle Dwalin and all the forty puzzled but amused guards who had yet to be signaled of any threat by said uncle or brother to the King’s heir.
Kili asked as he watched you begin to form a precise pattern to the knot between the thigh and hip bands. “What knot are you trying to make?”
“Saw Dain use one like this.”
“Oh,” he said with a puzzled nod as you drew another tug of the rope tighter to ready a loop between two folds of the rope against Fili’s hip.
Fili said, “Why are you using Uncle Dain’s knot?”
“Because I want it to look like he did it.”
That had Dwalin chortle in amusement to Fili saying, “Well my elbow is loose.”
Kili lowered to help you, first by securing Fili’s elbow properly, “Oh, take this one. Yup, and loop that here.” Helping you to work the boar’s head knot Dain prized in full amusement, then watched you hoist Fili up over your shoulders.
“Ooh, nice and cozy, no shoulder pressure at all. Very efficient, Bunny.” Fili praised the position he was propped up in and chatted with his brother and uncle, who strolled along as you carried the heir all the way to the throne room between puzzled Dwarves. Including Dain, who saw his prized knot and left his stroll to follow along, wondering when he could have tied up his nephew and not recalled it.
 .
Tumblr media
Halfway across the mountain the guards outside the shut double doors hurried to open them as you said, “I need to speak to the King it’s urgent. Just look at the state of his heir.” They both looked in after your group on the continued smooth pace to the throne until they just had to shut them again by traditional distance of guests to gain audience with the King.
Combination of you and the others around you had Thorin clear the room of his Council as you settled Fili down on his feet again. Just leaving Dis on her ceremonial chair at his side as the current Queen Mother beside their mother Diaa and grandmother former Queen Niro’s. Softly he spoke to his brother to have his nose scratched as Thorin asked you sternly, “Bunny. Explain this! Why is my heir in my cousin’s knots?!”
Dain was on the cusp of shrugging to Dis’ glare his way at spoiling their first day to be instructing the royal guard in a decade long bit of training to be ready for their positions later on as they got a bit older to inherit those roles from their uncles Dwalin and Frerin, who remained with the guard on watch expecting to be filled in later by them, but you began to shout. “Because high and mighty Lord Copperpot-!”
“Copperpot,” the boys whispered and snickered at knowing as the others did of who you were talking to amongst the visiting Dwarf Lords from the southern kingdom of Orcarni.
“I can’t move five feet to my left without him barking orders at me! And apparently he’s delegated himself on charge of my rent fees, which apparently to his wisdom is not to come out of my earnings from the contract to win back Erebor or my account in the treasury, so I’m not certain how he intends I’m supposed to be paying my rent! Apparently I’m a golden egg laying goose and I can just drop a gourd sized egg at his feet for the task at my fancy! But now he says I’m five weeks late and I’m to be turned out on Tuesday at 3:15am precisely!
And I said I would take it up with you but he of course felt it necessary to remind me that it is not my place to be speaking with the ruling family without proper appointment, so I made one, five weeks ago, but the walking radish went and bribed the aid to erase my name off the list because only members of high born blood status can request an appointment with the King in the first place. So I have to go back in time and choose high born nobility within a notable clan suitable to your rank apparently and somehow magic myself to being born from them!”
Dwalin’s shoulders were shaking in his fight to not laugh while he hid his face with his hand at the flails of your arms and Inflections of your voice from shrill to authoritative at this five week battle now boiling over. “And I’d have just hidden inside your apartment if I didn’t guess he’d be waiting for me there inside your toilet!” That had Dain chuckle and the women at the glaring King’s sides smirk and smile.
“What else has he done to thwart your daily tasks?” He growled.
“OH!!” You started and that bled into a longer rant of details that ended in your growling, “And I don’t care who his grand mama chose to take to bed to make his daddy but if he puts his finger in my face again we are going to have a diplomatic issue that can be heard by those in the afterlife when I hack off his hand!”
To Thorin’s audible growl of an exhale to keep from racing off the hang the Dwarf Lord in question to Dis’ question of, “He put his finger in your face?”
Sharply in a whisper recreating the point you lifted a finger to hold in the exact spot in your own face, “In my face!” Then you crossed your arms to not start shouting again.
Deeply Thorin drew in a breath and asked, “And who, pray tell, tied up my nephew?”
“Oh I did that.” You said and his brow rose.
Kili nodded with a wide grin, “I showed her the proper knot technique.”
“Not of royal blood.” You explained further and his brow dropped in his look to Dain.
Dis gestured her son’s way asking her cousin, “You did not make that knot?”
Dain answered plainly, “No. I recognized the knot as Fili was being carried by.”
They looked to you again as you said to Dain, “I’m sorry for framing you.”
“You are forgiven. Very well done. I am not certain when they learned to make my signature knot but very well done.”
And you looked to Thorin again as he asked you, “Why tie him up, for one, and two, why use my cousin’s knot?”
“One, he wiggles and you know it. Two because that buys me more time, not just any Ironfoot clan member tying up the Crown Prince but the King himself. Buys me more time to explain because family ties complicate matters.”
Thorin looked at Kili and Dwalin, “And you agreed to this?”
Dwalin answered, “Just walked up and roped him.”
Thorin’s brow rose at Kili who answered, “Seemed important.”
Fili added to that by saying, “Why else would she tie me up if not for something important.”
And the puzzled King flatly said, “I will speak to Lord Copp-“ making his nephews chortle as he caught himself and said the proper Dwarvish name, “And I will see to it his duties keep him far from yours. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Bunny.”
You nodded and said, “I have to get to work. I will schedule an appointment to see you around I suppose, just have to bribe your aid.” You said making him fight to not smirk as you turned post bow of your head.
Dain said with an amused tone in the lock of Thorin’s eyes upon him, “Take it you turned down King of Orcarni’s daughter for courtship and someone is taking it personally. I will fetch the Copperpot.” Turning mid trade of nods to smirk on the walk behind you to go and fetch the Dwarf surely to be thrown from the highest point possible out of the mountain to walk home in shame should he survive.
Niro asked the boys, “Aren’t you meant to be on instruction of the royal guard about now?”
“Yes!” The boys both said proudly, and Kili said , “Carried him all the way here!”
Fili nodded, “Smooth steady pace without a hobble or stumble!”
Diaa said, “I underestimated her endurance. I’ll sit her closer to us at the banquet tomorrow. Thorin clear a lunch this week.”
“I will.” He hummed to Kili’s move to start untying his brother for an amusing chatter filled walk back to the guard post to pick up where they left off with their morning lesson. Sure to be filled with raucous laughter from Frerin at the unfurled news of how his hopeful future sister in law and Queen to be had impressed the rest of his clan on top of the royal guard and any citizen passed by.
Niro nodded and said, “Bold to go for the heir, normally a sibling is chosen.”
Dis teased, “And here I’ve been wearing my sturdy outer coats all month to no avail.” Making Thorin roll his eyes at the beginnings of their chuckles and shift to bring his notepad closer to record the final list of grievances you had aired so he would not lose track before he reached the end of the list. Stuck adoringly with the hint of a precious half growl you had given off mid shout echoing in his ears.
For the lunch however he surprised you with on that very same day he could only smile brightly as you were left to their sign based tongue after you had squeaked out barely above a whisper, “I lost my voice.” A heart warming start to his full recount of how your bother free morning had gone so far. Ended with him rumbling to you protectively that you would not have another Copperpot incident or instigator again. A series of lunches and brief promised times alone were sealed by your signed promise to not kidnap his heir again and stolen peck you left on his cheek that as you scurried off etched a smile onto his face no one could break.
