wilson tries the entire episode (8x02) to hate house, wilson's patient talks negatively about her ex boyfriend and how he was a bad influence.
wilson gets advice from house to stop accepting the patient's wishes to die - to try harder - by doing something no normal doctor would: he calls her ex boyfriend who enables her alcoholism, who convinces her to do the painful but life extending treatment, and she gets back together with her ex boyfriend, so she's alive but back in a relationship that might ultimately be bad for her.
then wilson allows house back into his life so they can continue to be each other's enablers and bad influences, feeling alive again.... but also back in a relationship that might ultimately be bad for him 🫠

i also just like. don't know if i can even explain in words how Peak Bush Administration the entire premise of SPN is. saving people, hunting things, which even if they might have been people once are now categorically just monsters and demons that can only be dealt with by extermination
idk i keep coming back to the way this show was absolutely, from day one, aiming to fill the ecological niche that X-Files vacated after 9/11. how many XF cases of the week boiled down to "just some guy having The Weirdest Fucking Day"? (replace "guy" or "day" with the appropriate noun or time period as needed, etc.) even the ones that were inherent threats, how many just fucked back off into the unknown at the end?
the nature of the protagonists, the villains, the mythology, the goals and methods and acceptable resolutions, even the uh. disparity. in how much shit recurs along predictably gendered lines in each case-of-the-week... it's just really, really hard to look at SPN with fresh eyes and not see a deeply unflattering sign of the times, especially on direct comparison with one of its most direct predecessors.
(i will grant that the comparison springs extra-readily to mind in s1, where even in my crappy 480p rips you can still see the film grain, and it's visually obvious how much closer 2005 is to 1993 than it is to 2022. yeah, time just punched me in the face too, don't worry about it.)

I feel like it's relevant on this November 5th to reveal that I had a huge supernatural phase in 2020-2021. I watched all 15 seasons. I was obsessed. It was probably my first hyper fixation that I could call a hyper fixation. I was emotionally invested. I saw Cas go to super hell personally.
I have also forgotten basically everything that ever happened. that is is year of my life that has been blocked from my memory.

AN: It’s been YEARS, possibly like a decade honestly, since I’ve written down a story idea, but I have like this incessant story bug in my brain. This series and Lucifer especially have me in a chokehold, so hopefully, this helps to ease the brain rot a bit… this is inspired by the series, obviously, but also by a clip I’ve seen of Supernatural that mentioned Nephilim and them being not accepted by heaven (I think? I’ve never watched SPN, so maybe I got the idea wrong, and the clip was out of context.. oh well, in this story, Nephilim exists, and heaven doesn’t like that.)
Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8
Tumblr media
This has been lightly proofread. I needed to get the idea down finally since it's been circling my brian since I watched the finale. Also  chapter 1 is written! I’ll probably edit it a bit more tomorrow and post it by tomorrow evening. Anytime my oc is just signing and it isn't being interpreted by her assistant, it will be like this *text*. If her assistant is translating, then it will appear as regular speech.
CW: Not much yet, just some cursing
Summary: He claimed her mother seduced him, bewitched him with some devil-magic to make him fall for her, making her inherently evil. How else would a mere human have come to carry a half-angel? So he forced their offspring into hell, hid her amongst the “Losers,” and sealed her angelic half and her voice away so no one would ever know what he had done. With the extermination creeping closer to her doorstep and now being moved up, Madame C has finally had enough of her father’s hypocrisy. It’s time to leave the shadows and show Heaven and her father they’re not as great as they think.
Prologue
~ THE BEGINNING ~
Year – 1467
Quickly, wee one, only a bit further. We cannae’ risk being found!” The urgency in the older woman’s voice was barely masked, wishing the younger girl holding her hand could still think of this as nothing more than a game. The two slipped into a small cave opening, and the mother raised a finger to her mouth with a shaky grin.
Her tired brown eyes peaked out after a few moments searching the wood for any sign of the mob they had just outrun. The village they had only just reached a fortnight ago seemed to have decided the woman was a witch when they caught her using herbs to heal a scrape on her daughters knee. The village elder had gathered every able-bodied man and some women, armed them with anything sharp they could grab, and set the woman’s small home on fire. One had seen the “witch” and her daughter trying to sneak out of a window, and soon, the mob had begun chasing the two into the woods surrounding the village.
The woman scanned the trees half a dozen times, hoping and praying that some diety would hear her and the villagers would give up soon. She knew her daughter was growing weary, and at nearly 13, she was too heavy for the small woman to carry while trying to escape certain death. After a few tense moments of eerie silence and no sign of flames or shadowy figures, the mother breathed a small sigh and sunk into the wall of the cave. She looked to her side, seeing her daughters green eyes wide and scared – scanning her mother’s face for whether they would begin running again or if they were finally safe. For now.
In truth, the duo had been doing this for years. The young girl could barely remember a time they weren’t running or hiding, and she had only recently begun to grasp why. Witch hysteria was gripping the continent, and women healers and single women were being targeted. Someone like her mother, a healer and mother with no husband in sight, was no doubt evil and wicked. So the two were hunted, like animals, no matter how far they tried to stay away from civilization. This time, the mother had hoped to use a ruse of her husband dying on their travels to gain acceptance into a small village. It had worked for a short while until one of the older men tried to court her, and her rejection immediately put her under suspicion. Only a few short days later, their new home was behind them, and they had even fewer belongings than what they had come with, unable to grab much in their haste.
The young girl stared at her mother a few moments longer until a gentle, calloused hand began to smooth out unruly brown hair and a small smile stretched on the older woman’s face. Just barely gracing the planet for 28 years, the woman looked much older in this moment. So tired and broken from the last 11 years of running and hiding, unable to give her daughter the life she deserved, all because of a “man” that had promised her everything and then disappeared. The girl wanted nothing more than to ease her mother’s worries, put a stop to the need to run, and escape certain death. With exhaustion pulling her closer to sleep, all she could do at the time was collapse into her mother’s lap and cuddle into the last bit of safety she would feel for many years.
~ PRESENT DAY ~
Green eyes cracked open at the sound of a knock on the bedroom door. Red light was peeking through curtains, unable to break through the darkness of the rest of the room.
“Madame C? We’ve got breakfast ready, and Miss Carmine’ll be here in an hour,” a gruff voice called through the door before footsteps could be heard pacing away from the door.
The woman In the bed stretched before sitting up in bed and rubbing her eyes. Slowly rising from her bed, her feet softly padded over the wooden floors towards her small ensuite bathroom. After washing her face and getting dressed, she allowed herself to be enveloped in darkness, appearing to everyone as a shadow figure anywhere she went. The only visible part of her – green eyes and the short white gloves she wore so everyone could see her sign. The rest of her appearance she had found, after the first hundred years, was too close to her father’s for Hell.
Exiting her room, there stood a slightly buff hell hound watching the area around her door. He began to follow her to her office while speaking into an ear mic, “Madame C is on the move. Bring breakfast to the office.” Reaching the large double doors to her office, the first hell hound greeted another smaller, younger hell hound with a nod before they opened and shut the doors, allowing their boss through and positioning themselves on either side. Inside the office, the small shadow figure seemed to float to her desk, turning on a small light on her way and taking a seat in her chair with a sigh.
Not long later, a female hell hound came through the doors; dressed in leather and spikes, the only sign she was a secretary was the tray of food in one hand and a stack of files in another. The hell hound’s mouth turned up into a smirk seeing her boss slumped in her chair already. “C’mon boss lady, don’t tell me ya didn’t get any sleep? You got important shit to take care of today!”
Madame C gave a wry grin. When did she ever sleep well? She made a motion with her hand, waving off Nia’s question before signing to ask for the coffee on the breakfast tray. After setting the tray down and handing the coffee to her boss, Nia launched into a spiel about who had scheduled a meeting and why. Sipping her coffee, Madame C sat and listened to her assistant before a knock sounded on the office doors, signaling the start of another long day for the woman blanketed in shadows.
Hours later, Nia was absently scribbling in a notebook, bored out of her mind and not bothering to hide it. The meetings had ended 30 minutes ago; new contracts had been made, old ones were closed and paid out, and others would have to have bill collectors sent out to ensure clients paid their dues. Madame C sat back in her chair after signing checks for the hell hounds she employees, stretching her fingers out and rolling her shoulders to ease the ache that had settled in.
She looked at Nia with a small smile before tapping her desk to catch the young hell hound’s attention. Her white gloved hands began to move as soon as Nia looked up, *You should go. Beelzebub has a party tonight, right? Go.*
The female hell hound's head perked up, and her tail began to wag as she practically vibrated out of her seat. “Oh my Satan! Are you sure?! It’s supposed to be a big one tonight, so that’d be amazing if I could leave, like, now, but I totally understand if you need me! But, there’s also, like, this super hot guy that’s supposed to be there and I really want to shoot my shot, ya know? Ugh! He’s so fucking hot. I just-“
*Yes! Go! Please.* Hands moved quickly to cut the hell hound off. The green-eyed woman cut off Nia’s rambling, all but pushing her out of the office doors. Nia shouted a quick thank you, running off with the pile of envelopes leaving Madame C and the 2 hell hounds outside her office shaking their heads in amusement. The smaller demon looked between her 2 guards, signing that they should be heading home, too.
“You sure, ma’am?” One questioned.
“We don’t mind sticking around. Sinners are getting a bit braver with the next extermination coming up,” the other added.
*Go home, I could use the quiet. Plus, Carmilla left me a couple of new toys. I might enjoy a reason to test them!* White gloves signed as green eyes shone bright and sharp white teeth poked through a grin, accompanied with a short, silent laugh.
After sending the rest of her employees home, Madame C closed her office doors and collapsed onto a small couch to the side of the room, releasing a sigh. She had dreamt of that awful night again, the last time she had been able to hug her mother and feel her warmth. Her final moments of life before they came and cornered her and her mother. Before she was cast into hell and striped of her identity and voice. A gloved hand reached up to the center of her chest, where binding marks lay beneath her clothes.
One day, she’ll break the chains her father wrapped her in and show everyone just how evil he truly is.
Soon. Very soon. Were her last thoughts before she allowed sleep to claim her, hoping for no dreams to plague her tonight.
~I'm screaming inside. I hope ya'll like this at least a little. 🙏~

Your opinion on a thought I had over the weekend. Would an actor sabotage his own project to provide evidence to TPTB that the og show formula is what needs to be on air?
It still baffles me to this day that Jensen thought the prequel turned sequel AU concept of The Winchesters and the story framework of the 13 episodes would be a successful endeavor.
There was no effort put into the creation or marketing, especially by him, Robbie, Danneel or CMP production company. The execution was a small step up from a high school film project. The cast was inexperienced and apparently very inexpensive.
Jensen very quickly (even prior to the pilot airing) was pushing a reboot/revival with both Sam and Dean back on screen, and pushing it with more vigor and gusto than the TW project in production. It’s like he used the prequel/sequel project to drum up interest and excitement for a Sam/Dean reboot and to show WB execs why Supernatural (and J2) just needed a break.
Was this Jensen’s plan all along? Is that even plausible?
Thank you for your blog. I am a dedicated reader.
No. TV shows have 94% failure rates before syndication, so Jensen doesn't need to actively sabotage anything, the odds are always against you in Hollywood where even great tv shows get cancelled after 1 season and largely forgotten.
We were all baffled, Anon, it's what brought different SPN factions together in agreement and achieved temporary peace. Before that, nothing in the SPN fandom brings momentary peace than being united in fans’ hatred for the Buck-Lemming writing duo.
Jensen and Danneel probably expected Robbie Thompson to act like Eric Kripke 2.0 and manage everything for them. Where as Robbie expected Jensen and Danneel to pull their own weight. But there was no communication on expectations.
I think Jensen pushing a reboot/revival with both Sam and Dean back on screen prior to The Winchester airing was because:
The Winchesters was filming and will air so as far as Jensen was concerned, his work was done and he can focus on other things.
Jensen knew TW wasn't immediately accepted by at least half of the SPN fandom and tried to win them back with a promise of a Sam & Dean-focused SPN revival.
He wanted to keep SPN's money train running at conventions by giving rabid fans hope that SPN will return.
Jensen, my unasked advice to you is don’t go chasing waterfalls. The Winchesters was a Shein version of an AU fanfic.
WB executives cancelled SPN because they didn't trust a Jared-less SPN. Hollywood doesn't believe in breaks or letting a franchise "rest" unless it's losing money. The industry waits for nobody.
Honestly, that sounds too much like AAs/Hellers saying we got to watch The Winchesters so that we can get the SPN reboot/revival/movie.  That's like telling a vegan," I like steak, so you need to like steak so that we get more steak.". We're going to keep getting steaks regardless of vegans.

but what about MEN?
how does supernatural treat men/masculinity? does it romanticize or condone them? does it treat them as a problem that needs to be solved or the solution itself?
idk i just wanna ramble about the winchester men, humor me............
with all my focus on portraying dean's toxic masculinity, i wanna take a moment to reflect on masculinity as a topic that spn sheds light on in such a pleasantly important way.
for context, some key relevant statements made by ContraPoints on her Men video (highly recommended to watch):
men are subjected to societal pressures to conform to traditional masculine ideals.
men face challenges in expressing vulnerability due to societal stigma.
men's rights movements often fail to address systemic issues and may perpetuate harmful ideologies.
i would argue, the show treats masculinity for what it is, with both its ideals and its flaws. male characters are not to be celebrated just because they're men; male characters are not condemned just because they're men, either.
that being said, let's take our main 3 masculine males: john, sam, dean. the show reflects on what ContraPoints highlights above via our 3 mains:
john is subjected to societal pressures to conform to traditional masculine ideals
sam & dean face challenges in expressing vulnerability due to societal stigma
take john winchester — hated by most, respected by very few. he's the ultimate personification of what the fandom calls "toxic masculinity". the ruthless, strict, drill sergeant, emotionally abusive father, condemned for who he is by the fandom. the show doesn't condemn him; the show doesn't glorify him, either. the boys do that; the boys condemn and glorify him in ways that the fandom themselves may disagree. because the show isn't here to criticize or praise him; the show is here to give him a story that drives the plot.
and now to sam winchester — one would argue that he's the "least" masculine of the three, whereas i would say that he's the "romanticized" ideal of a more "positive" take on masculinity. he possesses a positive masculine influence because of his characteristic empathy, charming introvertism, and calmness. he's not the brother known for "bottling up emotions", even when he keeps secrets to himself. he shows anger but never in a violent way under he's under a specific type of influence. he's always associated with themes of being tortured, never of the one performing torture or physical violence.
and then there's dean winchester — most popular of the main three (whom i would argue is the most toxic of the bunch, but no one's ready for that discussion), the arguably toxic but always with "good reason" kind of man. dean's always treaded the balance between being destined to become john but learning to be more like sam. pressured by his upbringing to be strong, brave, never show fear, never show weakness/emotion, yet always the one who will get a 5min monologue and talk about his feelings.
so, what do all three have in common? they all represent masculinity even if in different spectrums. they've all been violent, they've all been brave, they've all been vulnerable. they all possess the complex, multi-faceted aspects of masculinity. they've all shown that masculinity is much more complicated than simply "toxic", much more than just "manly" or "brave".
spn celebrates masculine ideals — heroism, courage, stoicism — sure, but it has no problem subverting others — such as lack of emotional sensitivity (these boys CRY) and independence (name a more codependent duo than sam and dean).
i guess where i wanna conclude is... going back to the conversation of why spn was never about women and that's why i don't see it necessary to read it through a feminist lens... i find that it wasn't necessarily made for men, either, but one could easily see it as such, and in a good way, too. to go back to ContraPoint's third remark:
men's rights movements often fail to address systemic issues and may perpetuate harmful ideologies.
the show does shed light in these systemic issues, and it does not necessarily perpetuate harmful ideologies — it cultivates 2 of the most beloved tv characters whose literal platonic love for one another is what is so compelling and attractive about them.
the main protagonists in this show are allowed to be vulnerable and cry while, very realistically so, experience the societal pressures of having to remain strong, of having to fight, to remain brave.
sam and dean may not have been made to be "role models" for young men, but at least they're not toxic representations of them, either. they are seen as humans who go through the entire spectrum of emotions and experiences, beyond "toxic" or "ideal" masculinity, beyond "masculinity" itself, even.
sam and dean really do be the good beans.

got tagged to answer some some spn questions by @prince-of-elsinore and @catnipster69, questions originally by @red-meat-my-beloved i believe!
what song describes samdean the most?
i wouldn't say these songs describe sam&dean the most because my brainworms are fickle and often incomprehensible, but i have a whole slew of songs that are samdean songs for me! for example children's work by dessa as an overview of the whole show, untouchable face by ani difranco for pining!dean in the pilot episode, gospel truth by joseph j jones for early season pining, 551 by dessa for s4/s5 vibes, learning to love again by matt kearny for the relief of telling your brother you love him, the heart is a muscle by gang of youths for late seasons comfy brosbands, find me by forest blakk for the finale (not reeeeally a song but it counts).
and obvious ones like brother by needtobreathe, night moves by bob seger or always gold by radical face.
i also have a terrible habit of trying to connect every song i listen to while drawing to the ship i'm drawing so i'll go like, maybe before he cheats by carrie underwood IS a samdean song.....
if spn was set in europe, what country would the Winchesters be from? What language/languages would they speak?
i don't think i can possibly answer this any better than elsi did with eastern bloc because it's both hilarious and interesting. i also want to add that it would feed into the religious angle in a way worth exploring, dean being a non-believer and everything.
but it's also fun to image supernatural set in e.g. sweden in the style of nordic noir.
if they didn’t have the impala, what car would they drive?
i'm totally not a car guy so i'm the wrong person to ask this but i think it'd be cute to force them into a limegreen volkswagen beetle.
is there a project you’re working on currently? Do you have a line or sketch from it to share?
i'm always working on something rip uhmmm here's a base sketch from a thing i'm working on about dean surviving the rebar
Tumblr media
what’s the first fanfic for supernatural you’ve written? Did you publish it? Or if you don’t write: what’s the first fanfic you remember reading?
it was so long ago that i can't tell you much about the first spn fics i've read. one that i remember i read early on was on fanfiction.net and wasn't wincest but destiel. it had dean traveling through different universes for a reason i can't remember and in most of those other universes cas and him were banging. but what stuck with me when i read it was that there was one universe where dean had died and sam and cas were hooking up haha. the further details of that fic escape me.
an early wincest fic i remember was one where sam saves dean from hell and it was based on orpheus and eurydice.
is there another codependent/enmeshed duo from a different fandom you enjoy? Are there parallels to Sam and Dean?
seth/richie from dusk till dawn!!!! soooo many parallels!! i won't get into it but i'm always happy to make ppl watch fdtd and talk about it.
it's been some time since i've watched dexter but him and debra or him and brian also.
what type of wincest dynamic do you currently enjoy most? (sexual, platonic, dark, fluffy, early seasons, etc.)
later-ish to late seasons, spending most of their time together, feeling so comfortable with each other it almost scares them to relax into it lest it gets taken away, letting people make assumptions about them, sexually/romantically into each other, piiiining.
but really i'll eat it all, every wincest dynamic, ravenously.
(i think everyone i'd wanna tag already got tagged but if you see this and want to do it, say i tagged you!)

SPN Brain Rot Tasting Menu
this is not a viewing guide. (the only SPN viewing guide i'll sign off on is "bomb your way through the first 3 to 5 seasons in order, then decide whether you want to watch the direct-to-VHS sequel eras.") this is a "someone near you caught SPN brain rot and you're trying to decide whether to join them in hell" tasting menu, based on what piqued my personal interest when i was still on the fence about continuing with the show.
criteria: basically, "ideal episodes to catch by wandering through the room with no context while a roommate is watching SPN." so, skewed towards self-contained, less-spoilery, solid episodes that don't make me want to fistfight them in the denny's parking lot, but did made something in my subconscious sit up like it had been slapped.
okay, shine, what the fuck is this show's deal: 2x16 Roadkill. god's perfect little self-contained one-off ep. nothing spectacular, just a solidly-executed ghost story set on a lonely mountain highway. fairly representative of how SPN monster-of-the-week episodes roll, requires zero prior investment in the characters to be good, and i'm fond of it because this is basically the point where i buckled in and committed to watching the rest of the show. but also, quietly, almost covertly, a thesis statement for some of the core underpinnings of the whole thing.
shut up and give me the sickos-haha-yes.jpg: 1x06 Skin. what if you thought you were in an X-File but ended up getting erotically tortured by a shapeshifter in the guise of your codependent brother? what if you fuckers were so repressed that this was the only way the show could bring itself to air the dirty laundry of your sibling dynamics. what if the monster was all the parts of yourself you could never quite bury deep enough. what then, huh.
tell me more about the childhood trauma AND/OR c'mon gimme more sick shit: 1x18 Something Wicked. still obsessed with how fractally disturbing this episode is. there's a monster that preys on children at night in their beds and the only way to stop it is to catch it in the act. if SPN were a show with anything to say about morality it could eat itself alive chewing on the question of using children as predator bait, but it's not. it's a show about The Horrors + the shit that couldn't be buried deep enough + family as the first and most inescapable hell + the ways it intertwines damage with salvation. also there's lots of Winchester family flashback content in this one if you want to get invested in these assholes and their daddy issues.
under the cut: duos and trios of episodes on specific themes, including some spoilery ones
fine, get me invested in these assholes and their daddy issues (low-spoiler Lite Edition) AND/OR gimme those Americana aesthetics: 1x11 Scarecrow + 1x12 Faith + 1x16 Shadow. 1x11: SPN does "small town that sacrifices people to the harvest gods" and the brothers have their first big fight (guess who precipitates it). 1x12: SPN does "faith healer with some shit going on" and we get our first go-round with both Sam's belief in a higher power and Dean cheating Totally Certain Death No For Serious You Guys. 1x16: SPN starts in on the relentless pilfering of world mythology and the construction of its own demon lore, and we finally get to meet dad in person, which will exacerbate the mental illness of zero overly-enmeshed twenty-somethings.
(early SPN demon lore fucks incredibly hard, btw, and goes some creepy-ass Twin Peaks places towards the end of the season, which the show later doubles down on just when demonic possession is at risk of devolving into a plot device. this doesn't prevent it from devolving into a plot device, but it does retroactively justify some wild gothic-horror readings of s1.)
the I DON'T CARE ABOUT SPOILERS AND I'M FINE GOING IN WITHOUT CONTEXT menu
get me invested in these assholes and their daddy issues (spoiler-tastic speedrun): 2x08 Crossroad Blues (+ 2x11 Playthings) + 2x14 Born Under a Bad Sign. 2x08: a banger of an episode based on some classic "earthly success by selling your soul at a crossroads" folklore; gains twelve extra layers of crazymaking if you end up finishing the season. 2x11 (optional): a "haunted gothic mansion" monster of the week with some fun stuff between Extremely Normal Siblings. 2x14: more quality sickos-yes content a la 1x06 Skin, with a "woke up covered in someone else's blood with no memory of the past week" setup that goes even further off the rails from there.
i want to study Dean Winchester like a bug: 2x18 Hollywood Babylon + 2x19 Folsom Prison Blues + 3x10 Dream a Little Dream of Me. no comment. no fucking comment. don't look at me. we're not going to talk about it.
ok but tell me about the angel content: 2x13 Houses of the Holy + 4x01 Lazarus Rising. you HAVE to get down in the crunchy details of how SPN has been treating the entire concept of god and angels to get the full effect of 4x01, which is one of the show's banger episodes of all time. 2x13 is great, self-contained, and surprisingly low on spoilers, but 4x01 of course contains massive ones for season 3, my stealth favorite of all SPN seasons.
people keep talking about SPN's goofy and/or meta episodes, what's that about?: 3x11 Mystery Spot + 4x18 The Monster at the End of This Book. both casually spoilery. 3x11 is the beloved "yesterday was Tuesday, but today is Tuesday too" time loop episode where Sam watches Dean die approximately 8908234 times (and then shit gets dark). the arc-plotty parts of 4x18 require head-spinning amounts of context, but this is the one where the show exists in-universe as a series of trashy pulp novels by a guy named Chuck, and it flies impressively close to the sun of some kind of meta-storytelling singularity.
i am a masochist who loves fun side characters whom the show will end up mistreating horribly: 3x12 Jus in Bello. contains all three of my problematic(ally treated) faves: Bela Talbot, a shameless con artist and dealer in supernatural artifacts who's just enough of a Dean parallel to drive him batshit cuckoo-bananas insane with hatred for her; Victor Henriksen, the cocky ambitious FBI agent assigned to investigate the Winchesters' multi-state crime spree; and Ruby, a demon who shows up claiming to be a defector from hell and tries to befriend Sam. this is SUCH a well-constructed base-under-siege ep with SO many moving parts, forcing Henriksen and the Winchesters and eventually Ruby into a great reluctant team-up. it's also my big exception to "no recommending episodes that blow my socks off AND make me want to hunt the writers for sport." mostly because its Big Bullshit is an unnecessary sucker-punch inserted after the main plot wraps up, so i can just cross it out with my mental red pen and go "it's fine, they're lying, all my faves are alive and well and in witness protection." if you've made it this far, you need a warning shot anyway about what this show is going to do to you.
notable omissions that also rot my brain like a compost heap: the last 3 eps of s1 for being best viewed with a whole season's worth of intricate rituals as context; fully half of s4 for being incomprehensible without a ten-minute spoiler reel; 2x17, 3x06, and all the Gordon eps, among others, for being simultaneously incredible and enraging. (notable omissions that are important and have their moments but put me off watching the show for over a decade: the pilot and its 2-for-1 special on women in refrigerators.) do NOT @ me for leaving out other Core Brainrot Episodes. i laid out my criteria already.

I Can Feel You
Summary; Beau Arlen x Fe!OC (or reader if you wish) -> Agent Sandy Fletcher is brought to Montana to help on a case.
Warning: Swearing, Violence (crimial minds level - not a tie in), mentions of tortue, fluff (kinda) towards the end, angst. There is also an SPN reference if you can spot it.
Tumblr media
They had plastered her as a rookie. Made it out that she didn’t know much but she knew just over the normal amount to pass every test in the field.
By the gods were they wrong.
Agent Sandy Fletcher arrived in Montana in the early hours of Thursday morning. She was picked up by Deputy Poppernak who kept her both entertained and up-to-date on the case at hand.
She had been given her orders by her Chief. He wanted her away from town for a while. And, even though he wished that he didn’t have to, he needed to. Sandy needed out of Oregon. At least for a while.
“Tell me, is your Sheriff as talkative as you?”
Popp blushed a little. “Sorry. I’m talking too much.”
Sandy smiled. “Oh, no. It’s nice. The people I’m usually with don’t speak more than two words a day.”
Popp went on to explain a few things about Sheriff Beau Arlen and his deputy Hoyt. “I’ve heard good things so far.” Sandy assured Popp.
By the time she arrived at her home for the following however-many weeks, Sandy managed to grab a few hours of sleep before heading into the station at 8am.
And they got straight onto the case.
A double act. Childhood friends turned into a serial killer duo. They’d kidnap the helpless and weak, keep them alive for a few days but in the meanwhile make them wish they were dead until finally…they’d grant the victim one final wish.
To let them die.
It was better than going through the pain again and again and again.
But it was two weeks after Sandy had joined the team and was with Beau, Denise, Cassie and Jenny that she was taken from them.
The duo had been watching Denise’s house the entire evening, waiting for someone to come outside alone and be distracted long enough to be taken out.
It just so happened to be Sandy.
She had offered to take out the trash since Denise had cooked, Cassie and Jenny were handling the pots and Beau was clearing the dining room.
But after 5 minutes, Beau popped his head outside from the backdoor to shout Sandy back inside.
“She still not back yet?” Beau had smiled as he entered and Jenny took the stacked plates from his hands.
“Wonder if she got lost?”
Beau chuckled and popped his head around the door. “Hey, Sandy! You get lost?”
But then nothing.
Not a single thing.
“Sandy?”
Beau looked back inside, the other three growing a little more concerned. “Sandy?”
Beau walked outside and around the corner cautiously.
On the floor was the trash bag open, pouring its contents onto the grass whilst the lid was thrown across the lawn.
“Hoyt!”
Jenny shot outside of the door and came to his side. “Where is she?”
Three sets of footprints. Sandy’s and two others.
They’d got to her.
Storming inside the station, Beau gave out his instructions to his officers, giving Hoyt things to follow up on and asking Cassie to keep Denise by her side at all times.
“We don’t know how long they’d been watching us but I’m gonna guess the whole night.”
“Beau?”
“I need every officer reporting back to either myself or Hoyt. You go out in pairs. You do not-”
“Beau?”
“Separate from your partner-”
“Beau!” Poppernack shouted, finally catching his boss’ attention. “Look.”
Popp picked up the remote on his desk and cast the live tape from his inbox to the Tv screen.
Sandy.
She was out cold. A single lightbulb was somewhere, lighting her up just enough for them to all see the damage that had been done.
She had blood dripping from her nose, cuts across her cheeks and collar bone. She had bruises around her eye but they’d hit her so it wouldn’t swell up.
They wanted the station to know it was her.
Everyone watched in silence, waiting for something to happen.
“It’s live, too. They’re streaming it but I can’t get a location.”
“Keep trying.” Beau was holding back every emotion he could so he simply sounded deflated. His eyes never once left the screen, even as he walked the few steps towards a desk to sit against it.
Popp nodded and continued to try and find her.
For a few moments, nothing happened and then a groan.
Slowly, Sandy was coming around. Her head felt heavy and her neck was sore. How long had she been out?
Squinting her eyes due to the light, she finally managed to find some strength again and then she saw him.
Sandy closed her eyes and groaned. “Oh, it’s you.”
“You’re still alive I see?”
“I’m guessing you were expecting a different ending.”
The guy behind the camera stood up. “Perhaps.”
“What is it with villain's being so vague in their answers?” Sandy questioned. “You never just get straight to the point. You have to make a whole song and dance about it and even then you don’t get to your point!”
A loud smack came across her cheek. Her hair covered her face but opened up the back of her neck for the camera to see yet another cut and taser markings.
“Well, aren’t you just the perfect gentleman?” Sandy looked back up to him.
Sharply, he yanked at her hair and placed another hand under his chin harshly.
“I wouldn’t speak to me like that if I were you, Alexandra.”
“Don’t call me that.” Sandy gritted. “You’re not my mother.”
“It’s your name, though? Isn’t it? Alexandra Fletcher. Special Agent. Only child- well, that’s not exactly true. Is it?”
Sandy laughed. “What? You been looking through my family’s medical records again? Wasn’t smart enough to become a doctor to get them legally so you stole them? That it? Oh, your parents must be so proud.”
He sharply gripped at her throat again.
“Shut the fuck up.”
“Didn’t know this was your angle. Always thought this was Ernie’s method.” Sandy continued.
“What’s she doing? She’s going to get herself killed!” That was the main comment coming from the officers until Beau shushed them all.
“Where is Ernie by the way? I thought you two were attached by the…” Sandy looked down a little. “You know? Everything.”
He placed more pressure on her throat but before she felt herself begin to pass out, Ernie walked inside.
“Let her go. I want to have some fun with this one. She’s special.”
“Thanks.” Sandy steadied her breathing. “Last person who called me that was my 5th grade teacher.”
“Humor? Is that your distraction?”
“More of my entertainment than anything.” Sandy shrugged. “The Sesame Street writers have really gone down the drain since they replaced some of the acts.”
Ernie threw back his head in a laugh as he picked out his tools. “Ha! Let me guess? We’re Bert and Ernie?”
“Congratulations, you have fucking ears. You mom must have been so proud when you finally listened to her.”
“Oh, she was. She asked me to kill her neighbor for her. The dog kept shitting in our garden.” He explained before lowering his top half to be eye-level with her. “Just one thing? Why Bert and Ernie?”
“Well…I’ve read your files. And you both seem to have this…ooh, what’s the word?” It hit her. “Codependency. Well, one of you does.” Sandy whispered before gesturing over to Bert.
Ernie smiled. “Is that right?”
“Yeah.”
Ernie’s face changed, no surprise to Sandy and he swiped his knife across her as he distracted her by punching her gut.
“Your folks ever tell you it’s not nice to beat on girls?”
“Pops encouraged it, actually. Said women needed to know their place in society. Thinking. Having an opinion. It wasn’t right.”
“Do you believe that?”
Ernie shrugged. “Not really. I have met some extraordinary women along the way.”
“Who you’ve killed along the way?”
“Most.”
“What about him?” Sandy nodded over to Bert.
“Oh, he'd be too afraid of them to try.”
“Seems pretty confident to me.” Sandy argued. “I mean, he had me shaking in my boots before you came in here.”
“I’m sure he did.”
Beau and some more of the officers continued to watch in silence whilst Jenny stood over Popp’s shoulder, trying to find a location on Sandy.
Beau’s eyes stayed glued to the screen in front of him looking for any sign or hint for where she might be.
She couldn’t be that far. She’d only been gone 3 hours - although it felt longer.
And clearly, they’d had tied for a while.
“Where are you, Sandy?”
“Do you have anything you’d like to say? Perhaps to that Sheriff of yours?” Ernie now asked as he circled her before finally leaning down behind her. “I saw how he was looking at you at dinner.”
Sandy rolled her eyes, “Oh, brother.”
“Now, I might not be the best expert but even I know when a guy is into you.”
“Why? Did you catch yourself in the mirror when checking Bert out?”
Ernie gave a harsh, fake smile. “Funny,”
“Oh, no. Please. Do continue.” Sandy’s voice was laced in sarcasm as she watched Ernie walk away.
“You laugh, but I guess…part of you hopes I’m right.”
Sandy didn’t say anything but simply shot him a look of slight confusion for him to continue.
“Because I also saw how you looked at him?”
“And how did I look at him?”
Ernie turned around and lent against his weapons table as another blade sat comfortably in his hands. “Like you’d do anything for him.”
Sandy thought about it for a moment. “Hhm, maybe. But he is my colleague so…maybe not anything.”
“Please, you were planning your wedding invitations.”
“Actually, it was our joint grave stone.” Sandy corrected. “Much like you with your very own partner in crime. I mean, there is a lovely plot of land for you out in the field. I mean, watching the stars from the little pond by that old willow tree? It would be very peaceful.”
“Sounds like you’ve found your own resting place.”
Sandy smiled, “Maybe.”
She could only hope that Beau or someone caught onto what she was saying.
And he did.
Beau gave the order and after a final few minutes, they’d found the spot.
For any main road, it would take just over an hour.
“Okay, I need squad cars, Popp take Alpha,” Beau then pointed to a few more officers and gave them their orders.
“Stream this to my phone.” Beau told Popp and the moment they got into Beau’s car, Jenny turned up the volume.
“Is she okay?”
“I think.”
“You think? What do you mean-”
“Beau, she’s okay.” Jenny assured him. “She’s just sitting there watching them.”
“Okay.”
“She’ll be okay, Beau.” Jenny reassured him. “She’s tougher than we think.”
Beau couldn’t talk. He just nodded and pressed his foot on the gas.
By the time they arrived, Beau and the others all switched off their headlights and sirens as they got closer to the barn.
Once the SWAT and officers were surrounding the building, SWAT kicked down the door and they all entered.
If Beau wasn’t so determined, the sight he was met with, he would have frozen.
SWAT took care of the serial duo whilst Jenny searched the rest of the barn for evidence to further the conviction.
Beau searched around the place before finally reaching Sandy, holstering his gun and leaning down.
“Beau Arlen,” Sandy smiled in a weak laugh. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?”
Beau smiled as he quickly untied her and let her rest her weight against his arms as he helped her stand.
“Could say the same for you, Sweetheart.”
Sandy smiled weakly as he took her in his arms and helped her walk outside to the medics.
“Are you sure you can walk?”
“Beau, I have been through this a million times. I’m fine.”
As much as Beau would have once upon a time pushed her comment aside, he couldn’t. “What?”
“I’ll explain later, can we just..hurry?”
By the time Beau helped her out and got her to the medics, she was being rushed into hospital.
“They haven’t cut too deep. I should only need a couple of stitches.”
“Try 30.” The paramedic said in response. “Maybe more.”
Beau gave Sandy ‘that’ look but she just rolled her eyes. “What?”
“How can you be so calm about this? Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Beau, I told you I’m fine.”
And she said the same when he finally was alone with her in her medical room once her nurse had finished the final stitches.
“You keep saying you’re fine-”
“Are you okay? Do you need to see a doctor?”
“Sandy.”
“Beau.” She copied his tone.
Then he gave her that look again.
And she folded.
“Okay. So maybe the reason I was sent here wasn’t just to help out.” Sandy explained. “There had been a few incidences, back in Oregon. I worked a couple of cases in the Organised Crime Unit and - long story short - they found me. Tied me up in their grandmother’s basement and said if I didn’t join them I’d be…swimming with the fishes, if you will.”
“But this isn’t on-”
“My record? I know. It’s for highly classified officials to know, only.” Sandy nodded. “It was both for my protection, should any of the family somehow make their way into the databases and for any future employers I may have. Being tortured by a crime boss isn’t exactly something that would sell when trying to get a job in law enforcement.”
“When did it happen?”
“A few years back.”
“And have you-”
“Received counseling? Yeah. Just over 18 months and now we talk every couple of months.”
Beau nodded and hung his head. “Beau? Look at me?”
Beau looked up.
“I’m here. I’m alive. And I’m okay.” Sandy assured him in a soft voice. She reached out and took his hand. “Can you feel me? I can feel you.”
Beau squeezed her hand lightly. “I can feel you.”
Beau then pulled her into a tight hug which she gave back just as tight. He almost lost her tonight and yet she had been acting like nothing had happened.
But, just as Beau’s arms began to relax around her, Sandy’s arms tightened.
“Not yet.”
It was only two words, but Beau knew. Beau knew she was falling. That she was about to collapse beneath the weight of everything that had just happened.
Eventually, Sandy let go and moved back to wipe her eyes. “When these pain meds wear off, I might need your help. I love Denise but she scares me.”
Beau nodded. “Oh, me too.”
Sandy smiled. “Thank you for finding me.”
“Thank you for telling me where you were.”

watching spn and all i can think about is a spn steddie au where dustin and steve are brothers who are hunters and they run into max and eddie the brother sister duo of legend, and they have to join forces maybe to fight some vampires and Steve’s go to is a bat instead of a gun and eddie finds that a little bit hot so max and dustin start plotting to get them to travel together
it takes them a few weeks but eventually they agree and if steve and eddie share the same bed in motel rooms who really cares
robin is steve’s go to when it’s too dangerous to take dustin with him, she’s got the skills and she’s always willing to lend an ear. maybe she’s an angel thats come to save him but nobody needs to know that except him. they’re best friends, closest friendship steve has ever had in his life, and weirdly unable to spend more than a day apart so more often than not robin will show up on a hunting trip to help out or just linger
hopper is like bobby to steve and dustin, lucas, mike, will and el are his other “children” aka kids he’s taken under his wing and they all look up to steve cause they’ve heard the legends of his abilities and how cool he is. except mike who doesn’t get what the big deal is cuz he’s just STEVE and he’s seen the same steve put the milk in before cereal
joyce runs a bar nearby to hoppers, and makes sure that when steve and dustin (and now eddie and max) visit they get a proper meal, and a good nights rest and will not let them leave unless they do
nancy, jonathan and argyle are a trio of hunters they run into from time to time and when nancy meets robin, well…steve definitely needs to invite her around more because he’s not letting that look that robin had go anytime soon.
they’re a messy sort of family all together, and make it a point to be careful because they don’t want to lose one another but at the first sign of danger, Steve jumps in the way of anything to protect them and Eddie’s usually the one pulling him away to safety. Because damn if eddie isn’t going to go back to sleeping alone just because steve doesn’t think his life is worth more than anyone else’s

thwincest thursday
a day late, but, answering @red-meat-my-beloved's great WW questions.
what song describes samdean the most?
I really like Thousand Times by dehd. talks about.. healing you... fixing you.. wearing your skin..... Them
if they didn’t have the impala, what car would they drive?
I always like to imagine them having an old beat-up truck. with the amount of stuff that they'd have to haul around, living on the road, that always made sense to me. rough totes in the back full of witchy shit, clothes, held down with ratchet straps. the car is COOL, but it's far from practical. I always wanted to see the back seat full of their stuff.
is there a project you’re working on currently? Do you have a line or sketch from it to share?
I have several things on the go, actually!! shocking for me! here's a bit from a pine sweat epilogue.
Tumblr media
what’s the first fanfic for supernatural you’ve written? Did you publish it? Or if you don't write: what's the first fanfic you remember reading?
I orphaned my first spn fic, actually! my first two. I was on my first watch through, and only on S4, and after I wrote a few more, the first 2 fics I wrote just seemed so saccharine and out of character that I wanted them gone. the first one took place in S4, dean POV, Dean comes back from hell and realizes he's in love with Sam. it was not a good premise but I liked the case part of it. had to do with a selkie. I may re-write that, now that I think about it. self-plagiarize, baby!!!
is there another codependent/emeshed duo from a different fandom you enjoy? Are there parallels to Sam and Dean?
would you believe... no? I tried to think about it, but, no concrete parallels. the last fandom I actively wrote for was the video game series yakuza, so it dealt with middle-aged men who want to kill each other. some enmeshment there for sure, but not codependency. samdean is new for me
what type of wincest dynamic do you currently enjoy most? (sexual, platonic, dark, fluffy, early seasons, etc.)
I always say fluffy until I read an actually fluffy fic, like, braiding each other's hair fluffy, and I realize it's not my jam. so I dunno! I like case fics. tense, sexy fics. misunderstandings and cruelty. not whump, but not fluff. crunchy stuff.

Theme: Rec a fic that starts with the same letter as your username.
I spotted this rec theme on another blog and it sounded charmingly random and fun! I had a good time looking through my bookmarks and sorting out this little collection of mismatched seashells :)
Every Man's Got a Right by MollyC (SPN, Destiel, Endverse!Cas, time travel, 78K, E) In this one, Endverse!Cas is given a second chance to stop the world, and the people he loves, from going irretrievably off the rails -- he finds himself, without explanation, dropped straight into Season 2 and the first outbreak of the Croatoan virus. Watching him rediscover just how much Dean means to him and how far he's willing to go in order to change things for the better is beautiful. (Written in first-person, for those for whom that is a deal-breaker. It really shouldn't be, though!)
Everybody's Got a Hungry Heart by PallasPerilous (SPN, Destiel, musician!AU, 18K, T) Distinguished by Pallas's inimitable comedy-prose, this thing is an unhinged delight from start to finish. Dean is jumpy as shit. Why one possibly Icelandic beep-boop specialist has him on edge while Mick Jagger’s own vocal coach barely got his heart rate over 55bpm is a goddamn mystery. Maybe it’s the harp solos from that sample track; maybe Dean’s nervous that this is his last shot and if this guy can’t save Dean from filling out the back end of his contract with “Best Of” and “Live In Concert” compilations he might as well walk into the fucking sea.
Engineering 101 by Mara (Batman, Dick Grayson, early days, 4K, G) A clever use of extended metaphor to take a look at the process by which Bruce trains the first child he raises to be Robin and begins to realize what he risks breaking. (I'd say it largely embraces comic book logic in that it does not try to critique the whole premise of child crime fighting as an essentially bad thing, but it sprinkles in traces of real-life concerns. It doesn't vilify Bruce, but it does add some shades of gray to the creation of the dynamic duo.) "Engineering is about testing to destruction," Bruce said, settling into lecture mode. "You don't understand how you can do things better until you understand when and why they break apart."
The Eleventh Hour by Azdak (Man From UNCLE (TV), Napoleon-centric, 4K, G). OK, so, in the TV series there was an episode called 'The Gurnius Affair' wherein Illya had to go undercover as a bad guy, and -- long-story short -- things went wrong, Napoleon got caught, and in order to salvage his own cover and thereby the mission, Illya had to straight-up torture Napoleon. And he did so. Both of them were aware that he had to, both of them were horrified by the experience, and being 1960s television, there was never any adequate follow-up or emotional resolution. A lot of fanfic writers have tackled the aftermath of that disaster in different ways, and this is a fun and interesting take. Napoleon's narrative voice is many things here -- it's petty and angry in a way he rarely is, because his self-image and his pride have been so hurt and he's on ego overdrive here. But it's also wry, and self-dramatizing, and stubborn, and optimistic against all odds. Meanwhile, the narrative commentary of the femme fatale is a load of fun, too. A prickly, funny, angry, and ultimately triumphant brush with death is just what Napoleon needed, it turns out, to settle back into himself.
An Evening of Little Luxuries by otherhawk (MFU, Illya-centric, character study, 7K, G) Oh, I love this one, such a good look at Illya and what it means to him to live between cultures. Before the war he'd been more or less bilingual. He'd grown up speaking Ukrainian at home to his family and Russian everywhere else. After the war there had been no home left, and Russian had been the only language he heard, the language he thought and dreamed in. Now Ukrainian was simply another language he spoke, no different in his head from German or Japanese. His heart was a different matter, and he regretted that loss, regretted that when he dreamed of his parents, his sister, they spoke to him in a language that was no longer his own. Now, more and more, he found himself dreaming in English, and yes, that bothered him. He had no wish to lose Russian the way he'd lost Ukrainian. And so he let himself have evenings like this – the simplest things that felt like decadence – amid his fellow countrymen, many of whom, he suspected, were here for similar reasons.
Escape Velocity by Vehemently (Firefly, Simon Tam, character study, 5K, G) Such concise and vivid world-building, and a poignant look at how Simon grapples with how to accept the loss of the sister he once knew as he takes small, reluctant steps toward facing up to his own over-protectiveness toward the very different person River has now become.
Enduring, Quiet, and Calm by thesardine (BBC Sherlock, Johnlock, strange tenderness, 1K, G) A little gem of a sick fic -- so odd, so sweet. Has that hazy feeling of very late-night exhaustion.
Empty Houses by PlaidAdder (BBC Sherlock, Johnlock, case fic, 45K, T) A clever and involving case fic and the first story to feature PlaidAdder's wonderful take on Harry Watson. Written in that golden moment between Series 2 and Series 3 when we all imagined our own post-Reichenbach reunions and the possibilities for tenderness and healing were still wide open. This fic is rich in humor, compassion, and new beginnings, while also offering a darker take on some bits of canon than the show ultimately pursued.
Elevator Down by vikki (Inception, Arthur & Cobb, LJ fic, 10K, T) I really like this meditation on Arthur's backstory with the Cobbs. Psychologically interesting and elegantly written, and to me there's something touching about the thought that Dom's subconscious keeps lashing out at Arthur because, on some level, he knows it's Arthur who's working hardest to keep him alive. Arthur dreams up paradoxes. Cobb dreams up his late wife. One of these things is not like the other. One of these things is not safe.
Early Returns by rageprufrock (Inception, Arthur/Eames, journalist!AU, 15K, M) Rageprufrock is another author whose comedy-prose is always a pleasure. I love this one for the grouchy journalism malaise in which the embers of inextinguishable principle still smolder, lovingly described as only an insider can <3 For reasons that don't bear discussion, Arthur ends up at Safeway at a 6:30 p.m. on his way home for the night still carrying his messenger bag with his headphones around his neck, standing in one of the aisles looking at 200 different brands of plastic tableware and double-ply picnic dishes. He's been a journalist his entire professional career, so of course he's been this depressed before, but there's something profound when you mix the sinking misery of mortification with the heady, dizzying blur of self-directed fury, and it makes him feel numb down to the fingertips and toes.
If anyone else would like to play this meme, I'd be glad to see your recs!
