C-drama recommendation (part 2)

Helloo! I’m back with another post about how Chinese drama stole my heart. I randomly watched my favorite c-drama of all time: falling into your smile for the nth time. followed by reading fanfics in Ao3 because I just couldn’t get enough of it. I just feel I want more, more fluff and love.

soo I looked for another title I can binge watch (whilst I’m depressed because of my thesis lmao, procrastinating FTW)

1. Go Go Squid! (2019)

the story is about a girl, Tong nian, (genius, written in the official synopsis, but not really portrayed well in the drama) who fell in love with cool, hot-looking, older guy, Han, who happened to be famous. (It’s so lame how the girl just blindly followed the guy and not do her research first. I almost died from second embarrassment in the earlier episodes.) they started fake dating, and date for real.

what I love

the guy is hot, the K&K members also hot. (WUBAI my love)

the topic CTF looks fun and anti-mainstream

how tsundere Han is

the friendship portrayed nicely

how the drama literally focuses on the hugs, pats, (kisses in the latter episode), first kiss done abruptly which is so cute and real

10-year difference - kinda hot

the other characters are impactful

the misunderstandings in the earlier episodes are so funny

THE KISSES ARE SUPER HOT (cdrama classics)

What I hate

CTF looks fun, it’s shame that the competition just so fast, suddenly winning.

the flashbacks are so damn long

How Han is just so childish and mad all of the time

I just hope the awkward Han shown longer than the loving Han, because I felt it would portray Han’s character more (I know love can change people, but I hope for some dramatic and gradual changes)

I would rate 7,5/10.

I’d recommend but I don’t think I will watch it again when I’m bored

2. Go Go Squid 2: Dt. Appledog’s time (2021)

it’s like a spinoff of the first season, maybe you can say it’s in different universe. The story tells about the man, Wubai, who fell in love with Aiqing and joined robotics because of her (as she’s like goddess in robotics). she eventually fell in love when she met him for a competition. but suddenly Wubai gone missing.

this story is like Fluff, mutual pining, slow burn in one. 

What I love

the main characters Wu bai and Ai qing are so damn beautiful

robotics looks fun, they showed the robotic combat very nicely

THE FLUFF oh my god. my heart was beating so fast, I screamed silently everytime they interact. SO FLUFFY I WANNA DIE

mutual pining and slowburn, it’s just like I want to push both of them together.

I love how he respect and care about her, his dedication to love and pursue her, portrayed beautifully in the drama.

just LOVE how he announce his love, especially the one when he changed the name of the competition for her, and how he showed everyone who were against of their relationship that he fell deeply in love with her and inspired him for 10 years by telling people what DT stands for

THEIR LOVING GAZES for each other like the world in only theirs

The pre-ending scenes in most of the episode, are so beautiful. they show how the progress of their love

It’s funnier than the first season.

how mature the couple is. no major misunderstanding.

IT REALLY SHOWS HOW PURE THEIR LOVE

THE KISSES OMG

it didn’t focus on the friendship, just their love, second couple’s love, with a some of robotics

What I hate

some of the other characters are not impactful. the face, and the acting are just meh

the head count for the K&K team is annoying (because they want to include Han, but he rarely showed up in the drama)

the settings look like studio

I would rate 9/10 because of the beautiful love story. nice plot. although cliche love story (but I just love it). (I’m just hopeless romantic)

This drama made me questioned myself, “where can I find someone like Wu bai?” he’s so pretty and unreal, and how he loves her so deeply made me drool in envy.

definitely recommend, and definitely watch it again whenever I want to watch some lovey dovey, fluffy, romance

That’s all for now. I must stop watching because I have to study lmao. C-dramas are so underrated while they have interesting plots and hot kisses. But I also hate how they have like 30++ episodes. it’s tiring and addicting to watch at the same time.

My Review of Chinese Drama Go Go Squid 2 DT. Appledog's Time. 

Go Go Squid 2 - DT. Appledog’s Time is a spin-off of the 2019 Chinese drama Go Go Squid. DT. Appledog’s time is the story of two esports professionals Wu Bai and Ai Qing who fall in love. Wu Bai fell in love at first sight with Ai Qing when he watched her competing in a robot combat competition. He followed her into the industry and became famous as well. Years later Ai Qing met Wu Bai at a robot combat competition and became interested in him after he helped her and defeated her. They later separated and when they met again three years later Wu Bai confessed his feelings for Ai Qing. Ai Qing experienced a bad breakup in the past and feels that a relationship with Wu Bai will affect her career. She rejects him but Wu Bai is determined to be in her life and for them to rise together to the top of the robot combat competition world. They each have the dream of winning the world championship for China and developing the robotics industry. DT. Appledog’s Time has a happy ending and stars Hu Yi Tian as Wu Bai (DT) and Li Yi Tong as Ai Qing (Appledog).

What I’m Watching April 2021

A quick review of what I’m watching right now. 

SPACE SWEEPERS From: Korea Airing On: Netflix Description: After losing his daughter a former Not-A-Stormtrooper-Please-Don’t-Sue-Us-Disney winds up collecting space trash with a misfit crew of angry, damaged people (and a robot)... and then a kid who is being hunted by an angry white man shows up and teaches them the meaning Ohana. 

My Thoughts: Wait... that wasn’t the plot? There was something about white male privilege and corporations destroying the planet and unions = good? I vaguely remember that. 

The storyline is very basic and simple because they were aiming for a large, international audience and I respect that. It has pretty colors, the underdog wins, and lots of things explode. 

I liked it. 

THE LONG BALLAD From: China Airing On: Viki  Description: Princess of a murdered family dresses as a man and commits treason against her evil uncle to get revenge (not to be confused with RIVER WHERE THE MOON RISES where the princess of a murdered family becomes an assassin and plots revenge). Also... young hot dude with braids and good soccer skills. This is plot relevant. 

My Thoughts: Love it! 

I’m a fan of Dilraba and have been planning to watch it. I binged all the episodes that were out and I will binge again. I would have cast someone slightly older for Dilraba’s love interest, but it’s fine. No one asked me (If someone at Tencent Video wants to involve me in the hiring process I would do that for cheap. Please call me). 

There’s fight scenes, palace intrigue, buildings burning down, and a ball game that involves flying braids and significant glances around masks. I haven’t read the manhua so I have no opinions going into this, if you’ve read the manhua I’ve gathered from the comments that you need to brace for adaptation. 

Overall... I don’t know if I’ll get any of my ships to sail but I will enjoy this while it airs. 

RIVER WHERE THE MOON RISES From: Korea Airing On: Viki Description: Princess of murdered family finds a new life as an assassin and plots to take revenge (not to be confused with THE LONG BALLAD where the princess of a murdered family finds a new life as a general and plot to take revenge). 

My Thoughts: I love Kim So Hyun and the opening was great. Then there was a whole scandal and I put the drama down and now I need to go back. It looks promising (and stressful... and I’m avoiding stressful just right now). 

I expect this will be great. 

GO GO SQUID 2: Dt. Appledog’s Time  From: China Airing On: Viki Description: The romance between DT (Wu Bai played by Hu Yi Tian) and Appledog (Li Yi Tong) is explored. 

My Thoughts: Proof that Hu Yi Tian was not hired to just show up and smile longingly at Appledog during GO GO SQUID... it’s fine. I didn’t find Go Go Squid as engaging as some of the other computer-competition themed dramas and I was confused when GGS2 jumped back in time. 

I thought I wanted low stakes, and this is low stakes, but it turns out I really just wanted to see Wu Bai kiss someone and IT IS TAKING FOREVER!!! I already watched one show of him being madly in love with this woman. Can we just skip to the cute domestic fluff and passionate kisses? Or, you know, some what boring kisses since there are censors? 

I will eventually finish this. 

VINCENZO From: Korea Airing On: Netflix Description: Adopted by an Italian family Vincenzo is a mafia lawyer and fixer whose Korean heritage means he doesn’t get the respect he deserves. After his adopted father dies he heads back to Korea to take back a fortune of hidden gold... and runs into trouble.

My Thoughts: <insert screaming here> I have fewer thoughts and more just... screaming. Lots of screaming. My gosh, I need this to finish so I can make sure the ending is okay, because this show is making me TENSE. 

The cast is fantastic. The pacing is great. The writing is good. The fights scene might win awards but I. AM. SO. STRESSED.  Just let this poor man have his gold and his beautiful work-wife and stop trying to kill him! AHHH!!! AHHHH!!!

I will finish this once I know there isn’t a tragic ending. 

HELLO ME From: Korea Airing On: Netflix Description: A slice of life with a twist... after a run in with an actor and a kid with bad allergies Ha-Ni finds herself in jail and about to be fired. After a traffic accident similar to the one that killed her father twenty years ago he 17yo-self appears in the hospital with her and she’s stuck trying to navigate life as she lives up to her old expectations.

My Thoughts: I picked this up because I wanted something low stakes and this is suiting my need for low stakes. I find myself fast-forwarding through it a lot but there are genuinely funny moments that made me laugh out loud and a good story. Ha-Ni is the former popular girl whose life fell apart when one poor choice at 17 left her blaming herself for her father’s death (her mother and sister blame her too). She lost her confidence, friends, and drive and this is about picking up the pieces. 

Everyone in the show has regrets about past choices. That’s the theme. There’s a light romance, a corporate takeover, and supernatural silliness but really the question is: What would your child-self think of your life now and what would you do if you could change your past? 

There’s two episodes left to air and I’m hoping for a happy ending. We’ll see.

영화 보고 화딱지 나서 아까 보던 드라마를 캡쳐. 현생 살기도 힘든데 문화생활 하면서까지 스트레스를 받아야 한다니. 요건 ‘사랑할 자격을 얻기 위해서’라는 대사가 너무 찡해서. 맞다고요. 사랑하는 데도 자격이 있어야 함.

얼마 전에 핀터레스트 눈팅 하다 그런 짤이 있더라. 어떤 여자 유튜버 분이 방송 중에 말한 걸 캡쳐한 것. ‘남자분들. 여자들 꼬시는 거 진짜 쉽다. 자기한테 잘 해주는 사람? 평생 못 잊는다. 잘생긴 거 다 필요 없다.’

진짜 난 이 말이 무슨 의민지 알 것 같다. 그런 의미에서 제 남자친구가 최고죠. 승자는 정해져 있었다!

아무리 잘난 조건인 사람들이 나 좋다고 해도 나 힘들 때 멀뚱히 있었다는 사실만큼이나 시간 지나고 나니 배신감 들고 회의감 느끼는 게 없다. 너흰 대체 나 좋다면서 뭘 위해줬냐. 아오, 그런 의미에서 날 싫어했던 사람들이 난 이해가 안 간다. 버릴 것들이 아깝고 감당하기 힘들 것 같다는 이유로 좋아하는 사람한테 제대로 된 고백도 못 해본 사람들이 넘쳐나 혼자 외로워한 게 기쁘고 우쭐할 만한 일인가요? 나한테 다가올 기회가 충분히 있었고 잡을 수도 있었으면서. 지난 세월 돌아보면 현타만 겁나 옵니다. 내 젊은 날을 흘려보낼 가치가 있던 사람은 대체 누가 있었나(=_=) 그렇다고 나 같이 개썅 마이웨이인 사람한테 드러내놓고 고백하거나 무작정 좋아해 주는 건 역효과 나고요? 좋아하는 사람 성향 봐가면서 탈 나지 않게. 언제라도 자기 위해서 뒤에 있어 준 사람을 무시할 수 있는 사람이 어디 있겠나. 아무리 마음에 없던 사람이라도 마음이 생기지. (덧. 앗, 써보니까 뭔가 뉘앙스가 이상하다. 남자친구가 조건이 별로인데 날 위하는 마음 때문에 사귄다, 뭐 이렇게 쓴 것 같잖아?! 전혀 그런 의미로 쓴 거 아닙니다. 똑같이 다 갖춘 조건이라도! 성공할 수 있는 것, 없는 것엔 분명한 기준이 존재한다는 말을 하고 싶었던 것)

이 드라마에서 공감 가는 건 사실 많이 없습니다. 일단 제 남자친구가 순애보 가운데 순애보인 탓에 저밖에 몰라 여자 주인공이 부럽지 않고요. 그리고 내가 남한테 큰 관심이 없어서 누구한테 잘 보이고 싶었던 적이 별로 없고. 꿈이 있는데도 그걸 현실과 타협하는 성격도 아니고. 그냥 어떤 감정 이입 없이, 짝사랑하는 남자 주인공 모습이 풋풋하고 순수해서 보는 듯하다. 아직까진 꽤 재밌네요 :) 저 코드 하나만으로도 설레는 드라마.
