What part of no nuke finale makes you go insane and want to tear couch cushions apart?
c!dream and his desire to live/die.
we start with post-prison dream in the kind of mental state you’d expect - he doesn’t give a fuck if he lives or dies, as long as it’s planned and will actually fix the server. death doesn’t mean anything permanent, and even if it did, he’s a pawn on his own board. it’s a small price to pay for server peace and happiness.
enter tommy, who fucks that up by saying fuck that, man, you deserve to live. you should want to live. and even though they’re in hell, and things seem at an all-time low, and he’s stuck only with tommyinnit for company… dream does want to live, he realises. by the time he and tommy arrive at the syndicate, dream’s master plan to sacrifice himself has shattered because he wants to live. not survive, live. he wants to be part of the happy ending he’s orchestrated, damn it, he wants to - but that doesn’t mean he gets to.
when punz and he meet up, dream knows they don’t have long before the egg and the new nuke and XD and the syndicate destroy the prison. so he chooses to sacrifice himself. stop punz, stop the egg. give them his best. tommy taught him that he wanted to live, but dream has learned from sam and quackity that wishes are frivolous. useless. dream doesn't want to die, but he'll sacrifice himself. he tricks tommy and punz to leave the prison, and locks himself inside, dooming himself to death.
and then before the end, george is there.

i just had a drsam
and it's 5am and im writing this down as fast i can to not forget it bc sometimes i do forget my dreams despite me remembering majority of my dreams, oka, y now to what hapepedn in the dream:
OKAY SO
The different pairs of bros are kina stuck in the original verse right? i think it's juts the undertale, underswap, and underfells there but i feel like im missing ankther pair so just imahine another one
So, the fell bros, theyyyy accidentally summon a demon
i don't know how, or why, that's how my dream went
And they kinda panic because i think they've already got a bad first impression on the other guys because of their lv and all that stuff
And they're?? skeletons too?? The demons???
Each one kinda resembles the sanses of each AU stuck in there and oh boy they look so cool
The three demons look like a sans but except for the glowing flames from the top of their torso with the color of their magic, kinda like this:
i onlu drew the one that looks like Red bc he's the last face i saw and remember the most ajd it's pretty rushed so uh sorry
In the end tho, they kinda went buddy buddy with the demons and are cool w it and the fell bros are really relieved about it lol

the server shades au
I raise you guys my new angsty au: the Dream SMP, but every meaningful death (canon or not) leaves behind a Shade of that character.
warnings: death, torture, ghosts, grief, dealing with death + ghosts
A Shade is essentially a ghost, frozen in that moment of time.
For example, there are Shades in the final control room who wear their L’Manburg uniforms proudly, who still conspire to free L’Manburg from c!Dream and his men, who despise c!Eret for their betrayal. There’s a Shade of c!Dream on the railways, a Shade of c!Karl that roams where El Rapids used to be, a Shade of c!Foolish stuck perpetually with the Egg — Shades exist all over the server, little reminders of different meaningful deaths.
And for the most part, Shades are harmless, and nobody can see them. People pass places with Shades and might hear whispers, hear footsteps or memories from that time, but they can't see the Shades themselves.
Unless you're the Admin of the server, of course!
C!Dream, who sees Shades of his friends, enemies, server members, everywhere he goes. Who has them acknowledge him, ask for help, blame him for their deaths. C!Dream who sees two of his own Shades when he goes to the disk war finale mountain post-prison, staring down silently at him without a word. They look almost accusing.
And he tries to visit Shades frequently at first, offer them some company - he visits Alyssa’s Shade a lot, talks to her for hours. Some other Shades, too (never L’Manburgians, and never his own) find comfort in his presence: sometimes they'll even pass on, finally at peace.
(C!Dream who wants to reunite the server not just for those living, but for the Shades of those that aren’t — because he’s convinced they need server unity and peace to move on.)
C!Dream who has hundreds if not thousands of Shades of himself that join him in Pandora’s Vault. He does his best to ignore them, but they're loud — they scorn, they scream, worse, they tell him to give up: that his plan won't work, can't work, that it's all for nothing.
C!Dream who does his best to use these Shades (these weaknesses, in his eyes) to his advantage. He traps c!Sam in there with all of them, leaves him drowning in memories and the horrible sensation of being watched by smiling masks, like c!Dream is still waiting, ready to strike. C!Quackity can barely go in the cell by the end of the torture sessions: he's paranoid, jumpy, constantly on-edge and feeling cornered. The c!Dream Shades all gather round during torture sessions to watch while c!Drsam screams: his only consolation is c!Quackity can sense them too, and is clearly unnerved.
(Maybe some of the Shades even latch on to their killer: they follow c!Quackity home, scatter across Las Nevadas. Maybe c!Quackity can never really escape Pandora’s Vault.)
Shades can be used, sometimes. Shades are still technically PART of a person, if just removed, so they have some connection to the real character. C!Tommy is on edge around c!Dream because of all his Shades: especially the one in prison, surrounded by multiple of his worst enemy. Final death Shades are the worst: they’re the loudest, the most active — c!Dream can’t escape the kid in the corner of his cell, that never talks and never meets his eyes. The server can’t escape c!Ranboo’s shade, leaving violent glitches behind like an Enderman with nowhere to travel.
Sometimes people can dream of their Shades — c!Tommy dreams of c!Dream being tortured, and when he mentions it to c!Quackity, the man laughs it off uneasily. c!Tubbo’s festival Shade is cold and alone, and c!Tubbo can’t shake that feeling when he’s in bed. c!Quackity’s is drawn constantly to c!Schlatt’s Shades, and c!Quackity sometimes finds himself sleepwalking, heading back to a gym he never wants to see again.
C!Wilbur avoids any areas with Shades like the plague. C!Antfrost sometimes thinks he sees a flicker of c!Velvet in his peripheral when he's close to the egg. C!Tommy hears a Shade of c!Jack in the nether and guilt makes him run without looking back.
Nobody is free from Shades: just because they can't see them, doesn't mean they can't sense them and don't know about them. They all have their different opinions on them, of course - but most agree they're glad they at least can't see them.
REAL ghosts can see Shades, too: c!Dream’s skin crawls when Ghostbur tells him that he's very sorry that c!Dream has to look at these Shades all the time, and asks how he deals with it. Dream shrugs. There’s a reason no matter how much blue he gets, it won't soak up all his sadness.
C!Karl sees the Shades of past and future characters, but can't interact with them, and their bodies/faces are smudgey when he tries to focus on them. Sometimes in his dreams, c!George can see Shades, but they're always gone when he wakes up.
And depending on how close someone is to a person, Shades can communicate with alive people! for example, c!Tommy’s Shades can communicate with c!Wilbur (who avoids them) and c!Tubbo (who ignores them). C!Dream’s railway Shade can talk to c!Sapnap and c!George, but his later Shades can't.
All of the Shades (except those in the past/future like c!Karl can see) can interact with c!Dream, and he can see all of them too.
The whole server is burdened with ghosts of deaths and tragedy. It would be a shame if there were constant reminders of that :)
