I feel like people think Drosselmeyer is some edgelord who tries to subvert fairytale tropes. But my interpretation of Princess Tutu is that Drosselmeyer was never trying to subvert fairytales. Like the show as a whole does play with standard magical girl tropes and such. But Drosselmeyer in-story never sets out to do so. He’s like the in-universe version of Hans Christian Andersen or Brothers Grimm. A lot of fairytales are already dark and tragic. He himself as the author is not trying to subvert anything but rather writing tragedies in playing fairytale tropes straight. It’s the characters’ refusal to play along with the standard black-and-white, good vs evil nature of typical fairytales.

Anyone notice how all the characters most related to Drosselmeyer in Princess Tutu have green hair?

Now, Edel and Uzura are sort of the same person, sure. But Fakir... his hair is so dark it almost looks black in most scenes, but it is green, and he is related to Drosselmeyer.

While there is one other, unrelated character with green hair (Malen the artist from "Akt 9: Black Shoes"), still, it makes me wonder, was Drosselmeyer's hair green in his youth? Or maybe his wife's? (Fakir had to come from somewhere...) Did he model Edel after one or both of them?

Nutcracker Season 2022

Nov 20nd+24th - Child version + Time w/ Herr Drosselmeyer

I'm super late with these, and I ended up skipping one of the prompts I wanted to draw, so to compensate I drew 2 for this combo I wanted to do.

With that aside, I wanted to showcase Drosselmeyer's relationship with Clara and Hans when they were kids. I never thought I needed to come up with a younger design for Drossel, but here we are.

Wrote so many tragic endings that came true that the townspeople cut off his hands to stop him from writing. So he built a machine so that he could continue to write from beyond the grave! This machine locks the entire town into a fairy tale dystopia that he haunts in his after life.
