I know dnf day is almost over but here’s a little drabble just for here about Dream wanting to improve himself for George (inspired by that conversation in @milktea-green ‘s inbox the other day)

“I um, I think I want to try ADHD meds again.”

Dream and George are sitting on the couch. It’s the same spot they’re in most of the time, but George’s head is resting on Dream’s shoulder as he scrolls through TikTok. “You do? Didn’t it totally meme you last time?”

“Yeah.” George turns his head to look at Dream, cocking his head and raising an eyebrow.

“And you want to try that again?”

“Well,” George is right. His last experience with ADHD medication was terrible. His doctor totally screwed up the dosage and he never felt like himself. But that was when he was a kid. “I was just talking with my mom about it. She said my little brother just got put on meds for the first time and it’s doing him a lot of good.”

“So you want to go back on the normal pills?”

Dream rolls his eyes. “You’re an idiot.” An idiot that Dream wants to kiss, admittedly, but an idiot nonetheless. “I just think it could be good to try again. I’m a lot different than I was then and I have a better understanding of what works for me and my health. I just think that it could be worth it.”

George leans his head back further than before and presses a kiss just below Dream’s ear. “Since when were you so healthy and responsible?”

“Oh you know,” Dream cuts himself off with a kiss to George’s lips. “There’s this guy who I really like,” he intertwines their fingers. “Figured maybe if I took better care of myself he’d think its hot.”

“Oh really?” George asks. “I’m sure that guy finds the fact that you work out a lot super hot too. Maybe you should invite him to go to the gym with you. Maybe share a few of those healthy home cooked meals with him too?”

“Yeah?” Dream laughs. “Let me guess, carrying around a big waterbottle everywhere I go just in case he needs a drink would be a good idea too?” George smiles at him.

“Sounds good to me.”

“You’re a freeloader.”

“You’re my boyfriend, you’re like- literally required by law to take care of me.”

Dream furrows his eyebrows. “Yeah? And what do I get out of it?”

George kisses him again. “That.”

They fall into a comfortable silence, watching Patches across the room as she bats at a toy mouse. Their hands seem to find a way back into their tangled state each time one of them reaches for their phone.

“You’re serious about the meds, though?” George asks after a while. “Like, you’re going to go to the doctor and try it out for real?”

Dream’s heart flutters. George’s out-loud kind of support isn’t why he’s in love with him, but in little moments like these, it makes him so sure that he’s made the right decisions. It’s sitting on the couch together, scrolling TikToks, and recording content for their shared fanbase, the way that George’s eyes sparkle when they make eye contact and leave a little crinkle in the corner, how his smile is a little bit brighter when he’s looking at him and everybody can see it- all of the little things about them that makes Dream want to improve for.

“Yeah,” he replies earnestly. “I really am.”

I forgot, your other thing, bro people who've been dteam from the start or for a while, they don't know the horrors. Idk about your experience, but for me, like, I had an old twt account and as a writer I mainly followed writers but also just some stan accounts

But I liked having dteam stuff show up on my dash, but they're also vicious over there and I didn't want to risk someone seeing "__liked a dteam tweet" so what I would do, is I would see a dteam tweet, and make sure to interact with it, click on it, read some replies maybe open up the qrts and then not like it, all to try and let the algorithm know, hey I like this keep giving it to me without leaving any actual marker that I was there

And having to just keep my mouth shut when I saw people trashing Dream. In discord servers I would only mention him if anyone brought him up first, all my dnf bookmarks were private on ao3. I was stealth supreme lmao

Kinda sad looking back on it, especially cause now I just liberally say, ooh look Tommy's doing this isn't it great, guys Tommy's so funny etc etc

Also, this might be a hot take, but low-key dnis are kinda useless. Like, people like us who duel-wield creators like tommy and dream, I can understand like dni if you dislike someone I like (which I've noticed is a way more common way to do dnis on this side which is an interesting trend)

But on the other side they're like, dni if you enjoy xyz

I followed so many accounts that said dni if you like Dream. So many. But they would've never found out that I liked Dream, none of my socials had it, not one mention of it in my fics

Just an interesting like note lmao

STOPPP I HATE THAT ITS SUCH A SHARED EXPERIENCE :(( i literally did the same "coaxing the algorithm w/o actually liking" thing bc i was so scared of ppl judging me and like. that should've been my sign to gtfo but it's hard when it used to be an otherwise (mostly) enjoyable community. and i also had to be a fake dranti for a hot sec (and in public i keep my mouth SHUT) bc it is terrifying out there 😭

it's srsly so nice to like a creator outside of a subfandom and not have to deal w extreme neg and vitriol !!!

and do not get me started on dni's cause i find them so hilariously stupid sometimes 💀 they work but not in the way that they're intended to work yk?? i tend to use them as more of a blocklist than anything. and ppl who have "dni if you like xyz" in their bios are so funny cause like. how the FUCK are you gonna know and police that if they just don't say it Out Loud???? it really serves as more of a denouncement than anything but then WHY USE THE TERM DNI??

i could keep going but i will refrain, partially because my thumbs hurt and also bc it's too late (early?? idk it's like 1:30) for me to get so heated over dni's

his mother makes homemade pickles

he has dropped his phone from his ear onto concrete in the parking lot before and the screen didn’t crack

he pours cereal first not milk when making cereal

what’s your dream car? “idk the one that gets me to point A to point B consistently”

he finally fixed his sleep schedule, woke up at 8 am today

mrbeast owes dream a tesla because he never sent dream the audio file

dream is a very analytical person - he thinks with numbers/data

creativity is one his strengths that he is the most proud of

3 to 4 years ago, dream used to say george looks like shawn mendes a lot, now he doesn’t resemble him as much

swimming is very relaxing to dream, he swam the other day!

many houses in florida have pools than other places, even the cheapest houses in orlando have pools

dream has merchendise defects (misprints on merch) + milestone merch and he wants to give them away to those who live in orlando (probably to anyone but the event will be held in orlando) though he doesn’t want it to be a covid super-spreader thing so once you pick up your item you gotta dip. just all an idea though

he has been donating them to charity too though :)

dream has likely read Heroes of Olympus before a long time ago

he says that he’ll do a give away of his childhood books with his signature on it

he was obsessed with the series (Percy Jackson)

he really liked the Alex Rider series

has all of Maximum Ride books, 39 clues books

has read the legend series, the twilight series, and the maze runner

has all/read of the harry potter books, divergent, eragon

he would read all the time, to the point he would read more than one book a day (a book worm he says)

dream had a goal to read 200 books in a year and he wind up reading about 150

he doesn’t want to call it a library but- growing up he had something like that that had 600 or 700 or more books in it (privileged he admits it)

he has not read a book since he started youtube (about 2 years)

dream has a folder called Book that has his own writing in it

word count: 76000 words for one of his stories

another one he wrote 5 chapters of

he sounds very excited/embarrassed talking about the stories he wrote he’s so endearing

the very first paragraph of one of his stories (he was young when he wrote this) “What exactly is darkness? is it the lack of light? is it a pit of nothingness? ... your mind is full of darkness...” then he couldn’t continue.

the story is about a kid who wakes up in a cell and has no idea where he is with other people who are in the same situation

dream has a world building document

he has a sequel to the first book he has ever written

he found a query letter that he wrote because he wanted to get his book published- he finds it very funny

he’s calling himself a nerd but idk it’s kind of endearing

“as you can tell i’ve always been incredibly cool and not a nerd at all! ever.”

he cringes at his own old videos

dream took a lot of inspiration from witches and wizards by james patterson for writing

the story is written in a way where the main character is actually writing the story so you’re getting input from the main character during it. there’s a lot of sarcasm in it and it’s making dream laugh

very first person narrator

he feels like it’d be very cool if he were to publish his works he wrote when he was 16 on amazon or something but he probably never would because he’d have to read through all of it and it’s just embarrassing for him

dream used to video call sapnap fairly frequently- even before youtube

he strictly remembers, a very long time (at least 7 to 9 years) ago he was at his old childhood house he video called sapnap. he was wearing a (technically) suit and he remembers specifically that he was giving sap a tour...

“snazzy in a suit”

he had no reason to put on the suit (wow time is a flat circle huh)

drista is pretty close to sapnap’s height, she’s like 5′7″ but sap is still taller than her

dream filmed the whole thing when he and sapnap met but... it’s... gone because when he was clipping that one clip for twitter... it edited the whole video

he’s sure when they meet up with george they will film that too :D

DREAM IS PRETTY SURE THAT HE AND GEORGE WILL MEET THIS YEAR-- HE SAYS A 95% CERTAINTITY the five percent is like either restrictions or visa issues

dream does not play any instruments but he had a guitar hanging on his wall when he was younger...

dream is convinced they’re the same height but also sapnap is probably taller??

they had george compare his height to a door frame and dreamnap were googling for any doorframes to find any possible chance that george is taller than 5′8″ ... nothing came up

there’s a chance they’re both lying about being 5′8″

sap and george will literally just show up in stilts to prove they’re taller than each other /j

Dream: rolling out of bed, going on his fanart account, scrolling past the dozens of horror interpretations all over the tag to find the best c!dream hot guy and c!dnf pieces to like, art about cat!George, meetup art, goes back to sleep

He’s only got time for so much resisting those masculine urges and all. Anyways these horror artists probably wouldn’t change their ways even if Dream explicitly said “please make a separate horror tag” or hell even “I changed my mind no horror or gore even of my character”

Like not saying he would say those things. But in the event he did these artists don’t seem like they respect Dream or his fandom much at all. I wonder if even Tommy saying something would do anything. Because people who make art like small child Tommy and big scary adult Dream and refuse to hear criticism are doing it for the reactions no doubt in my mind.

The thing with dnf is at the very start it was too obvious it was all jokes and bait, like what sapnap and dream does or what quackity does etc

but now, there are geniuenly moments i struggle to tell the difference, ofc there are obvious baits still but like the current dnf moments especially last couple of streams from george/tommy feel a bit too real,, like i really can see similarities of the dynamic my crush and i had

like i know they are trying to bait, but the way they are more clingier lately?? hello there are 3 more people in that call and all those two go is “dream look” “george look”, i know you guys try to be eachothers attention all the time but come on,,

the way george calls out for dream? is it me or its getting more frequent? i swear it wasn’t this much before but idk, the way dream says “george” and uses his name more often lately, i was watching an old vid and dream used to say “dude” etc when referring to george as well, he doesn’t do that anymore,,

and i dont get how they are able to read fanfics without it affecting them at all? like i know they find it “funny” etc but believe me your brain doesn’t think that, subconsciously you tend to keep the idea of dating or loving that person more in your mind, the idea of actually dating them settles in your brain without you noticing, like they can say all they want but reading fanfics on a regular basis should definitely effect their subconscious views of themselves, without them noticing.

like in georges latest stream, dream seems more giggly, george just smiles more often,

this “dnf” thing may started as a bait and a joke for them but using it so often + reading fanfics seems like affected them subconsciously, because these last few dnf moments feel real, even the dreams “oh we know how hot you are”comment, it was an obvious joke but what made it real is georges reaction, he literally froze lmao we all can see it

the voice tones give away anything truly, i feel kinda bad assuming this sorta stuff but, i mean, just go rewatch georges latest streams and tell me those two aren’t clingier and more giggly around each other

This may be a wild conspiracy theory, but what if the fanfics were what kinda made Dream and George more giggly, clingy, and made them act more acting like boyfriends? Dream and George have both admitted to reading fanfics of them.

The whole argument of “how do you read a fanfic about you and your homie hugging/kissing/dating/having a happy relationship/etc and that doesn’t affect you at all, even if it’s just subconsciously” is growing on me. Because if I was affected when my friends in high school said “you two would look cute together”, then surely two friends who are shipped by a large part of the internet, have a huge following of people that make fanfics about them as a couple, would too right? It’s a very interesting theory.

And I also agree that the way Dream used to respond to, for example, bait-y donations vs how Dream responds to them now is very different. Older Dream was running around begging George to say ‘I love you’ to him and when donations would ask ‘when are you and George going to make it official?’ older Dream would say “I don’t know” and really give into the bait. But newer Dream when a donations said, ‘Just admit you’re madly in love with George’, Dream said ‘yes’ immediately and then really stuttered, and imo, really was trying to come up with bait. Disclaimer: Of course, there are exceptions to the rules, there were real moments back then and there are bait-y moments now but the point is how different Dream responds to these types of questions.

I’ll say it again, Dream is very good at expressing his mind and his opinions and is a very good talker. When he hesitates, stutters, or is silent, it speaks volumes. I feel uncomfortable prying too far into sexualities, especially when the people may be confused or questioning but again, it’s very *interesting*.

4 more shows DONE and there’s been some changes to the rankings...

FAVOURITES

1. Crash Landing on You

He’s from North Korea. She’s from South Korea. They never should have met, but they’ll change each other’s lives.

This was my first K-drama, and its still my favourite. The full cast of characters is great, the lead romance is ANGSTALICIOUS and its genuinely, laugh out loud funny (when its not making you cry or swoon).

Male lead: Officially the best boyfriend ever. With added dimples.

Tear-jerk factor: 4/5

2. Healer

The lives, and pasts, of a hot shot reporter, a spunky young tabloid journalist and a mysterious thief-for-hire intersect.

This was so addictive - the plot was tight and engaging, and this is one of the few shows I’ve watched where there didn’t seem to be a lot of filler. I loved the central 3 characters, and the romance was amazing. I especially loved that the male lead started off such a brooding loner, but he became super-affectionate as soon as he admitted his feelings. So many good hugs and lots of face-cradling in this one.

Male lead: Effortlessly beats up 2 henchmen while comforting his girl over the phone. What more do you need?

Tear-jerk factor: 1/5

3. Itaewon Class

A young man’s life is forever altered when he runs afoul of a powerful family.

This felt like a big step up in quality from everything else in this list, in terms of the production, soundtrack (which was brilliant), the lack of annoying sound effects, and just the overall ‘real world’ feel of the show. All of the characters were fleshed out and 3-dimensional, and they all had their ‘moment’ to shine. The story itself was gripping and so well done - some of the twists and reveals had me gasping! And what can I say about the 2 leads? I love them, both separately, and together. He is so wise beyond his years, and his journey will break your heart and inspire you. She is borderline sociopathic, but I adore her.

Male lead: Tenacious, principled, kind, innocent, caring, driven, loyal…and he can cook!

Tear-jerk factor: 2/5

4. Descendants of the Sun

A special forces Captain meets a capable and beautiful trauma surgeon. They feel an instant bond, but their jobs and philosophy on life get in the way, threatening to tear them apart.

Halfway through this show, I seriously thought this might overtake CLOY as my No. 1 fav. I absolutely LOVE the male lead character, and the romance was beautiful…but it didn’t quite nail the angst and the last minute was a bit twee which dropped it down the rankings a bit.

Male lead: A cocky, charming, absolute BADASS with the most adorable, cheeky smile.

Tear-jerk factor: 2/5

5. My Holo Love

A lonely woman falls for a holographic AI and then meets his creator...

I love the concept of this show (I’m a big sci-fi nerd), and it was beautifully shot. The lead relationship is well developed and it doesnt fall into a typical love triangle. I’ve come to realise it utilises a lot of K-drama tropes (face-blindness! shared childhood trauma!), but it does it really well, imho.

Male lead: Tortured loner genius. My catnip.

Tear-jerk factor: 2/5

6. Goblin

A 900yr old immortal guardian finally meets the ‘bride’ who will end his existence

Once I got over the slight ick-factor of the age difference between the two characters at the beginning, I really fell for this show and it’s world. It had me in tears. And I especially loved the secondary character of the Grim Reaper.

Male lead: Surprising innocent and funny for a 900 year old

Tear-Jerk factor: 5/5

7. What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim

An personal assistant decides to quits her job in order to get a life. Her boss has other ideas.

I loved the female lead in this - I’m a sucker for uber-competent people, and the actress is STUNNING. Her boss is self-centred, entitled and vain...but over time, somehow that just becomes endearing! This show also has lots of very good kissing scenes...and when he started to unbutton her shirt during one encounter, I was SCANDALISED (did I mention these shows are usually very PG!!)

Male lead: Like I said, somehow makes vanity and narcissism endearing. Also not afraid to get his shirt off and flash his 6-pack. Bonus.

Tear-Jerk factor: 0/5

8. Legend of the Blue Sea

A mermaid comes onto land to find the man she loves

The (literal) fish-out-of-water scenes in the first half of this show were hilarious - the actress is a comic genius! The romance was nicely done, and there wasn’t a lot of extraneous plot or too many characters. I couldn’t stop watching this one!

Male lead: Cocky, arrogant conman with a soft mushy centre

Tear-Jerk factor: 1/5

9. Fight for my Way

Two life-long friends decide to go after their dreams

I found this during my Park Seo Joon binge and, even though I fast-forwarded large chunks of it (I wasn’t interested in the secondary couple at all), it still made my favourite list because I love the leads - both as separate characters and as a couple. This is one of the best friends-to-lovers stories I’ve seen, mainly because you truly buy that these 2 have known each other their entire lives (their bickering and teasing feels so natural). And then when they take the next step, they’re so affectionate and refreshingly open with their feelings.

Male lead: I love his contradictions. He’s goofy and childish…but can really turn on the sexy charm; he’s a badass MMA fighter…who loves when his girlfriend sticks up for him and protects him.

Tear-jerk factor: 0.5/5

10. Suspicious Partner

A young, hardworking lawyer has her life turned upside down when she is put on trial for murder.

This has been officially bumped up to my favourites list - partly because I’m now a massive Ji Chang Wook fan, and partly because I’ve rewatched scenes with better subtitiles and it made everything10x better. Its still overly long, but the serial killer plot had some nice twists and it was central to the story, so it didn’t feel extraneous like some of these types of plots do. I really enjoyed the central romance - the 2 characters sparked off each other well and I loved their evolution from sort-of enemies to lovers.

Male lead: Its Ji Chang Wook! He’s so good at playing serious guys who are secretly big dorks

Tear-jerk factor: 0.5/5

Notable mentions

These are shows which I completed and enjoyed but they didn’t set my world on fire. Usually because they were overly long, or the plot got in the way of the characters/love story.

1. The K2

An ex-mercenary takes a job as a bodyguard protecting the illegitimate daughter of a politician. A sort-of Snow White retelling.

This started off really well, with some amazing fight sequences (hello, shower room scene!). However, the back half became too bogged down in double crosses and manipulations, and it focussed too much on the politicians. The writers did well to give these characters some layers, but they were all essentially doing bad things for the wrong reasons, and I just didn’t care about them. The show was much better when it was following K2’s journey. The romance also started off well, but was a bit underdeveloped (mainly because they barely interacted).

2. I Am Not a Robot

A man who is allergic to human contact finds companionship with a robot…or does he?

I honestly thought I wouldn’t make it passed a couple of episodes of this - the concept was just too ridiculous. But I’m glad I perservered, because it developed some real depth and some proper good angst towards the end.

3. My Love from the Star

Alien stranded on earth meets an actress soon before he’s due to be rescued.

I finally gave this another chance, and I’m glad I did. The female lead got a LOT less irritating, and I enjoyed the present-day romance and all the flashes back to the past. However, the ending was really abrupt and disappointing (which kept it out of my favourite list). There should have been 1 less filler episode in the middle, and a decent, fleshed out finale instead.

4. Her Private Life

A talented art curator tries to keep her professional persona separate from her fangirl obsession with a pop idol.

This was cute and I loved the central relationship - he was so supportive of her, and their interactions were refreshingly mature and their banter felt really natural. Ultimately, it was a bit forgettable (I’m not dying to rewatch any of it), and the last minute tacked-on childhood trauma subplot was really unnecessary.

5. Strong Girl Bong-Soon

A woman with inherited super-strength gets a job as a bodyguard for an eccentric young CEO

The lead couple in this are AD-OR-ABLE and I loved their relationship. But there was a weird tone issue in this show. The romance is super cute...but there’s a whole dark sub plot involving multiple women being held captive by a psychopath. I ended up fast forwarding most of that, and just concentrated on the romance.

6. Touch Your Heart

Star actress rocked by scandal works at a law firm to prepare for her comeback role

This starred the secondary couple from Goblin and I really like them, even though they are playing very different characters in this (more opposites attract, than doomed lovers). At first I found this too ‘cutesy’, but I’ve since realised the sound effects/graphics are a K-drama thing and not unique to this show, so I’m not as down on it as I was. I still had to fast forward a lot of the secondary romances which I wasn’t invested in.

The others…

1. Hyde, Jekyll and Me

A woman becomes involved in the lives of 2 men, who share one body

This stars Hyun Bin from CLOY and he is sooo watchable, especially as the slick-haired, glasses-wearing, uptight Seo-Jin. And the show started well...but quickly went off the rails into a convoluted, dragged-out revenge plot.

2. Melting Me Softly

Two people are accidentally cryogenically frozen for 20 years. They have to navigate the modern world and their new lives together.

Another good concept, but it ultimately descended into little more than a light work-place romance. Had a couple of good kissing scenes, but it was overall a bit forgettable.

And the DNF:

My Secret Romance

I started watching this because I was looking for something a little less PG - the characters have a one night stand in the first episode! But I couldn’t get passed the bad acting and cheap production.

Master’s Sun

I liked the premise but the 2 leads weren’t very attractive (at least in comparison to the insanely beautiful actors/actresses in the shows listed above). Call me superficial, but I couldn’t see myself spending 17 hours watching them and willing them to kiss.
