Please I'd love to know more details about your Sinclair dating sim dream!

Didn't expect this but here you go!

I would say that it's either before the movie is set or it's after the Sinclair bros dealt with a group that ransacked and kind of ruined the place

But here is a summary of what I remember:

It starts off with being in a car with a group of friends

There was like a hill overview of Ambrose (don't know why lmao, definitely not canon) and the only light was coming from the house

The group decides to go investigate.

I got knocked tf out, and then woke up in the house tied up.

First thought, where are my friends

Second thought, wow the guys in front of me are hot.

It's the Sinclair bros kinda standing around and talking about me

You know, do we kill her? Keep her? The good questions.

A few options came up: 'try and escape your binds' OR 'scream' OR 'stay silent'

I chose to stay silent cause I'm nosy and a hoe (theoretical).

They decided to keep me!

They split off to go do their own things and I got left with Bo.

And then it was all about picking who I would go help clean up Ambrose with

The entire time I had that feeling in the back of my head that if I screw up I'm going to die, so my choices matter.

If I spent too much time with one brother it could have repercussions for the other brothers.

I did in fact kiss Lester first and the art inspired by him in game was so cute. I wish I could draw just to show what he looked like (It was kind of similar art style to dream daddy but not as polished).

There was also another element when you would run out of energy and you had to go to bed, if you weren't in the house, you would faint in the street - didn't happen to me in the dream but it was a feature that I was very careful about

You would use the energy up by helping one (or more) of the boys when cleaning up Ambrose

But every day there was the threat of someone else coming into Ambrose

And that's kind of all I remember? I mean Jonesy was there too and she was adorable!

The worst parts? I woke up. and FUCKING MICROTRANSACTIONS!

I’ve seen a few posts asking for recommendations for romance interactive/visual novels and finally I decided it would be better to just post about it rather than replying. Note that I have been playing this genre for years but I also am picky. There are some games that I have played which I would not necessarily rec*.

You should also watch out for “Best Friend Forever” (Switch/Steam/Itch.io) and download the demo. I also personally have not yet played “Butterfly Soup” but I hear great things about it.

Interactive Novels

The Wayhaven Chronicles - Fantasy/romance. You play as a detective who has been tasked to solve a murder in your small town of Wayhaven. You have been tasked with agents from a mysterious agency, Unit Bravo, to help you. But are they all that they seem? 

Pros:

Sexy vampires. (This is not a spoiler it’s literally in the description of the game.)

The writing is incredible. Mishka Jenkins knows the tropes and uses them expertly.

The romances are all very good in their own unique way.

All of the characters are well developed and interesting.

There are two books of this series out!

Cons:

ACAB. And you play a detective at a station where there’s literally a state where you either are “by the book” or “bend the rules” so like. Not great.

There are two books out of seven for the series so know you will be left wanting more.

You can play as non-binary and there are a couple of background non-binary characters in the story but there are no non-binary romances.

Creme de la Creme - Adventure/romance (if you’re into dark academia, this is for you). You play as a student sent to a finishing school and are expected to bring prestige back to the family name.

Pros:

This plot takes some turns y’all.

You can play as non-binary and there also can be non-binary romance options!

There is aro/ace representation!!

Hannah Powell-Smith is married to a woman so like nice.

Cons:

There is some commentary that sometimes works well and sometimes falls flat. Mainly the critique on power and the upper class works well until the endings where many still benefit from this without characters putting much more thought in it.

Tally Ho - Comedy/Romance. Inspired by Wooster and Jeeves. You play a servant living in London during 1930′s. You work for Rory Wintermint, and must accompany them to their Aunt Primrose’s estate. Hijinks ensue.

Pros:

Light and fun and adorable.

Romances 

There are some really funny moments in this.

Cons:

This was one of my first interactive novels and I have spent hours and hours on this game and there are still achievements that I have absolutely no idea how to achieve.

It’s a light and airy game so know that if romance is your thing, it doesn’t delve as deep into those relationships as other games on here.

You can play with they/them pronouns but there is no other non-binary characters.

Fallen Hero: Rebirth - Action/Superhero. You play a former hero that has started acting on your plan to become a supervllian. You must work against your original crew and that gets. Complicated.

(**Heads up, this is a very good game it’s not romance-focused. I also have not replayed it in some time. and other people could describe it better than I have. So if this short description sounds interesting, I recommend looking it up on tumblr + other areas.)

 Pros:

Immersive and thoughtful small details.

The romances are complex and certainly not easy, but that’s certainly a strength of the writing.

Malin Rydén self-describes as “unapologetically queer”

Cons:

Not so much of a con but something yall should know! This game handles heavy topics as your character descends into villainy. Your character experiences depression and a variety of Rough Stuff. Keep that in mind if you are also in a rough place mentally rn.

I’m gonna be real with ya fam and I think this could just be me. There were multiple parts of this game that I felt lost in. I could not fully understand what was going on. BUT I also feel like in many places that is the intention for the character to feel disorientated so take that what you will.

Visual Novels

Arcade Spirits - Dating Sim/Comedy. You play as a depressed person who was just fired. You are convinced you are suffering from a generational long curse. Your phone matches you with a job at the Funplex arcade with various characters. Will you ensure the arcade survives? Will you find love along the way?

Pros:

this is GOD-TIER visual novel content y’all!!

The system that they use for stats are unlike anything I’ve ever seen but it’s leagues ahead. You do not have to be constantly monitoring your stats as you would typically for other games.

Made with so much love for the content and attention to detail. 

Diverse cast that are all so fun and lovable in their own way.

You get to create your MC’s hair/skin/clothes color and then you’ll see them throughout the game?? WILD.

Cons:

BECAUSE this game was made with love and and attention to detail, if you have absolutely no interest in the world of video games you may feel detached.

The character creator is very limited. Which I do get to a certain extent with all of the different shots they draw the MC in. But I hope you want your character to be thin with a lot of angular facial features 

Choices - An app where there is a series of stories you can play “chapters” of using keys, which replenish every couple of hours.

Pros:

It’s a very focused on modern romance stories, but there are also such a variety of different genres of books! Fantasy (Blades of Light & Shadow), Historical fiction/romance (Desire & Decorum), Thriller/Horror (It Lives in the Woods). I have PLENTY of recs if you hmu.

There are...Many a good romances in these tho like I have blushed and sighed and daydreamed about these stories.

Cons:

You need patience for this game. It’s a free app and therefore has a system where you need to understand the key system and be patient to collect “diamonds” to purchase premium choices.

Many of the books are gender-locked where you can only play as a woman.

Choices has been criticized that they need better treatment/more screentime for their characters of Color. They have said they are committing to do better, but we will see.

Same has been said about their wlw romances.

Just as there are good stories, there are also stories that have something to be desire. I have varying issues with some books that have plot holes, unengaging writing, etc. These are good for you to play to earn more diamonds though.

Dream Daddy - Dating Sim/Comedy. (This game was the talk of the town when it came out in 2017 but in case you weren’t in the genre at the time!!) You are a single dad who is moving with your daughter Amanda to Maple Bay. You meet other single dads and date them while also trying to be a good father to your daughter.

Pros:

This writing is sharp as a tack. The comedy is on point and this game does a great job transitioning into serious moments.

There are awesome little mini-games that you’ll find in these!

The characters of each datable dad first seem like caricatures, but their backstories are complex and have depth.

The character creator is chef’s kiss v good. AND you can play as a trans dad like how neat.

Cons:

There have been plenty of conversation about cons for this game but frankly I don’t truly believe it has a con for what it is.

If you’re not a pun person this game will be. Difficult.

A Rose in Winter - Romance. You are playing as Rose, a girl who determined to prove herself as a knight. She has found herself at an inn and must choose between a series of Princes to help on their journey.

Pros:

Cute stories!

Except for the green prince which is heart-fluttering. (and if you play, I recommend playing last)

Adorable art.

Cons:

This reads more like an ACTUAL visual novel. Your choice (besides the initial choice you make on which prince you pursue) means little, if there is choice at all.

It’s definitely simpler than other games on this list but that’s not a bad thing as much as you should know!

*Please know that I did not include The Arc*n* on purpose! I used to really love that app but the way certain things were handled (both IRL and in the plot) I would not recommend it now.

Or at least post-Valentine in my part of the world. I hoped you have a wonderful date with your significant other.

But if you’re like me who’d rather hang out with my 2D husbandos (yes I have a sad layf lol), then let the eligible dads of Dream Daddy be your date!

If you tell me 2 years ago that I’m going to play and love Dream Daddy, I would probably laugh my ass off.

Released in 2017 by Game Grumps, Dream Daddy is a dating sim where you can customize your ‘dadsona’ and as the name suggests, you can date different kinds of dads. There are 7 dads in total but let’s start by making the dadsona who will date these dads.

At the start of the game, you’d be prompted to customize a dad to your liking. Think of it as the simplified version of the Create-A-Sim menu in The Sims.

So here’s my dadsona, Bae Summers.

Isn’t he good-looking? I loved that egg nipz shirt! hehe

Once you meet all the dads, it’s time to date! You have to message them on the game’s version of Facebook, the Dadbook. Each dad has 3 dates that need to be passed. Aim for S or A rank to ensure a good ending.

Craig Cahn

The main reason I got this game! After watching Kelsey from this video I had the urge to get his end!

MC’s college buddy and partner-in-crime. But when they meet again, Craig is already a responsible father of three.

Wait, there’s more.

He’s also a businessman, running a sports business. Also, he’s a health junkie. He trains every day, jogging around the neighborhood with his baby strapped on his body. To top it all, he coaches his twins’ softball team. Such a busybody.

Bae: My ultimate sexual fantasy is you. 😏😏😏

Craig’s ending, his route, heck even his kids did not disappoint! I would play his route again and again just to see his daughter River. She’s, like, the cutest kid in this game!

Seriously, though, I’m shipping MC with Craig because their bond is something. I love the whole bromance to more-than-bros going on. The confession scene at the end is sweet and cute. Too bad the game’s pretty short. I would have liked to see more of these two.

That third date, though. 🤩

Another reason to love Craig’s route is that, unlike the other dads, he has none of those minigames. So you can just safely play through this route without worries of a failed date.

(There’s a mini-game where Craig invites you to do the treadmill. But in my game, it didn’t appear on his route. Rather, he invites you when you are in another dad’s route.)

Mat Sella

Mat is the owner of the coffee shop in the neighborhood. He loves music, coffee, and his daughter Carmensita.

After ogling at Craig, I’m not sure I’d like Mat. But there’s a certain charm to his awkward personality. Like how he looks flustered when meeting people, which, at first glance, is totally unlike him.

Bae is so thirsty I kennot. 😂

But Matt’s really sweet and thoughtful to everyone. Contrary to his belief that he doesn’t like crowds, he’s rather good at taking care of people. It’s nice to see him complimenting MC’s personality. Together, they look like cute awkward teens and that’s…adorable.

The last date and the scenes leading up to the ending are so sweet. I loved how they get so flirty with each other. Mat is just giggling and flirting with the MC. That’s the happiest I’ve seen him in the game.

Brian Harding

Brian is MC’s rival dad. From the first time Brian and MC meet, this dad keeps on one-upping our MC. So for the rest of the route, they work through their rivalry thing.

Hence, this route contains the most nerve-wracking minigames! Brian invites the MC in different activities such as playing golf and fishing. And since, MC is competitive as ever, you as the player have to win them all!

So if you’re planning to get all of Steam’s achievements, I can only wish you luck. I admire you for having the patience I can never have. Because you’ll need a lot of it to finish Brian’s minigames, especially the golf part.

As for Brian and MC as a couple, I find it hard to see any chemistry between them because of their constant rivalry. But once I realized what Brian is doing, I found it cute. It’s nice to see them sort out their differences in the end.

Also, his daughter, Daisy, is a bit of an uptight at first. She keeps on correcting Amanda’s jokes which had me rolling my eyes a lot of times. But Amanda’s really chill so she teaches Daisy to be a bit more laid-back. Then, the two of them makes an adorable pair of siblings.

Robert Small

Robert looks wild and gruff, someone giving off a dangerous vibe.

MC’s first encounter with him is when he and Amanda visit Mat’s coffee shop. There, Robert checks out MC, staring darkly from the corners of the shop. I admit, he gives off a creepy vibe on that scene.

If MC decides to go out at night, he’ll go to a pub where he’ll be properly introduced to Robert.

Anyway, the other characters call Robert as an enigma. He’s such a mystery to everyone due to the cryptic way he speaks. You can never EVER get a straight answer from him. I can’t help but roll my eyes every time he speaks like that…

One of those rare moments that get him to speak what he really thinks.

…I guess I really am no good with people like him because it feels like he’s belittling other people with the way he speaks.

Surprisingly, I loved the ending. Robert did have some baggage. But I think he has the most realistic ending. I appreciated his no kiss-and-tell personality because at least he’s really clear with what he wanted in his relationship with MC.

Another surprising part of this route is Mary. It is already weird to have her hitting on MC on his first night in the neighborhood. Being friends with Robert, she is not someone to be messed with.

But Mary’s actually a really good friend. She doesn’t look like it, but she cares for Robert. And I appreciate her for that.

Damien Bloodmarch

When I watch Let’s Plays of the game, whenever players meet Damien, they’ll all have the same reaction — “Vampire Dad? No way!” But whenever I scrolled through the comments, everyone says that Damien is just misunderstood.

Those mixed reactions are really intriguing.

Damien dresses and acts like a Goth and has a love for the Victorian Era. Because of this, he gives off a standoff-ish vibe.

Damien is a sweet and romantic guy. Underneath his classy look lies a cute cinnamon roll. He proves that you can’t judge a book by its cover.  His route is like watching a slow and old-school romance unfold. Like, how he prefers handwritten letters (with seals!) over Dadbook messaging.

And I loved how everyone could tell that they’re sooo in love with each other to the point of teasing them. I even love the part where Amanda saw them kissing in front of their door because that’s like a reversal of their position as dad and daughter.

Also, he’s a fudanshi. 😏

  He has a collection of SasuNaru fic? 😏

Hugo Vega

Hugo is Amanda’s teacher. Being a person of authority, he’s pretty uptight.

Hugo is, well, nerdy. Other than teaching middle and high schoolers, he writes scholarly stuff and he’s very knowledgable with high brow lit.

He’s knowledgable. Period.

But he has another hobby: wrestling. He’s got a room of wrestling things. And it goes without saying that he knows a lot about it, a huge fanboy. That and those teach-me-wrestling-moves had me 😏.

Thing is, I enjoyed Hugo and his son, Ernest moments more in Damien’s route. Unlike Damien’s son, Ernest didn’t really show his appreciation for Hugo in his dad’s route. Meanwhile, in Damien’s, due to certain events, the relationship between Hugo and Ernest have a big leap. They have a more familial atmosphere around them in the end.

Or maybe, Ernest is busy on other things…

Joseph Christiansen

I have mixed feelings about this dad.

Joseph freaking Christiansen is a youth minister at the church. He’s the husband of Mary and father to the freakishly looking kids, Chris, Christian, Christie, and Chrish.

My initial reaction when I meet him and his family: YOU’RE TELLING ME YOU CAN DATE HIM!?

Just look at their names. I feel like I’m committing a sin.

Also, he spends most of his route being extra sticky to MC, like being sweet and clingy. I could definitely picture him staring longingly to MC, giving off mixed signals.

It’s uncomfortable knowing Joseph is married to Mary. She’s not the nicest neighbor. But after playing Robert and Damien’s routes where she is a good friend, she’s grown on me.

AND NOW I’M SNATCHING HER HUSBAND.

You’re being such a good friend MC. 🙄

So other than the names and his wife’s existence, Joseph intrigues me in the previous routes. During Amanda’s graduation party where MC talks to each character, Joseph asks MC to hang out with him anytime he’s free. He’s not telling MC that in a casual way. It’s more of like this:

… which is like silently pleading MC to notice him.

When MC did, he so brilliantly dumped him.

Which brings me to another reason why this route brings me discomfort.

Joseph’s best end is in the opposite direction with the other dads. After flirting around, he’d tell you that he’ll go back to his wife. And that’s perfectly okay. That’s a good thing, mending a broken family.

But it feels like MC is subjected to a needless embarrassment and rejection for someone who’s only stringing him along. He’s just a rebound, a one-night stand.

I couldn’t help but compare Joseph with Robert, because of their internal issues and how they treat MC. Thanks to this, I ended up liking Robert more, mainly because he’s very clear with what he wants and puts a distance from MC as he fixes his life.

Now I kind of regretting leaving Joseph for last since it taints a charming game. It’s like Joseph lives in a different world, far from the sweet worlds of the other dads.

Craig is the love of my life in this game. Though I loved everyone, in all fairness. I just especially loved him. Even MC agrees,

For my favorite in the game – Craig > Damien = Mat > Robert = Hugo > Brian > Joseph. Or it can actually be Craig = Damien = Mat = Robert = Hugo >Brian >>> Joseph.

Everyone is farrrr better than Joseph. lol

alright as requested (by @sadiebun and literally no one else) here’s my big gay late night rant about joseph christiansen (spoilers under cut, sorry everyone on mobile)

alright so i’ve played a lot of dating sims in my day (it’s kinda my friend group’s thing, we play them in skype calls and give all of the characters dumb voices and it’s fun) so as soon as dream daddy was announced and there was actually a fandom behind it instead of only like five other people who had heard of it we were super excited to play it and see other opinions on the characters and routes rather than just our own

admittedly i probably wouldn’t be as mad about this as i am if joseph wasn’t my favorite (i’ve literally adored him since the characters were revealed, i have a thing for blondes and also pastels so he was a keeper on sight) and honestly i should have expected something like this because it’s always SOMETHING when it comes to my favorites but i digress

in my opinion his whole route was adorable: baking with the kids and his iconic “you’re too sweet!” line to christie, which is still one of the cutest lines in the game in my opinion, the bake sale, dancing with him at the “jesus is calming” youth group mixer, the margarita zone, all up to the night you spend with him on the yacht

and then at amanda’s grad party he tells you he’s going back to mary

like. you spend so much of the route letting him tell you about how his wife is a cheating alcoholic and CLEARLY neither of them are happy in the relationship and his marriage is in shambles and that’s why he LIKES you because you LISTEN to him and help him through all the stress and grief he’s dealing with and at the fucking end of the route he’s literally living on his fucking yacht because mary kicked him out of the house but it doesn’t matter because he’s HAPPY WITH YOU even if you fucking do get lost at sea because you run out of fuel

and then he just fucking. works it out with her

do you know how goddamn unrealistic that is

and honestly? i wouldn’t have a problem with that ending if it was, i don’t know, a bad end or a “friendship” ending or something but

it’s the best ending you can get with him? all you can ever be to him is a side hoe for a night and then he goes right back to his wife??

that’s the “good” ending?

THAT’S NOT WHAT A GOOD ENDING IS like the whole night on the yacht leads you to believe he and mary are going to get a divorce and he’s going to come live with you and amanda and you’re going to be a cute little happy family (until she goes off to college but anyway) but literally he just comes to your house for her grad party and is like “yeah thanks for everything, i worked it out with mary by the way still wanna hang out sometime?”

like literally when we first got this ending we thought we did something wrong and somehow got a bad end. that’s how much it sucks

and yeah obviously not all endings can be happy and it doesn’t always work out but that’s literally the point of having dating sims with multiple endings. there’s the ending where you end up with the desired character and then there’s a couple endings where you break up or they just want to be friends or idk some other variation of a “bad” ending

and i just? literally don’t understand the point of making joseph the ONLY character who doesn’t get a “good” ending. “here have this game with seven possible suitors HA JK THERE’S REALLY ONLY SIX BECAUSE THE SEVENTH ONE IS SOMEHOW STILL UNREALISTICALLY IN LOVE WITH HIS SHITTY WIFE” i literally don’t see the fucking point

like why even put him in the game. what’s the fucking point

i decided to rank the dads on dream daddy based on how i interacted with them.

1. Craig. we’re already bros. the transition from rekindling a friendship to kindling a romance is a smooth and enjoyable one. i enjoyed becoming more physically active with him, as well as teaching him to relax and take care of his emotional needs. +3 for young kids and dadsona struggling with empty nest feelings. +1 strong dad arms

2. Damien. he is so sweet and caring, but also enthusiastic about his interests. becoming one of his interests is the best feeling in the world. he writes dadsona love letters and sends flowers. i would also be lying if i said i wasn’t a little interested in the low key creepy vibe Damien projects, especially in the cemetery date. +1 super romantic. -1 Lucien is allergic to dogs and i would worry about bringing dog hair into their home.

3. Mat. we can connect on both being anxious and shy, but also enjoying music. over the course of the dates we encourage each other to be more expressive and outgoing. he understands dadsona’s anxiety over going to events, because he’s done the same. (IRL i have had dates get mad over my social anxiety ruining their evenings) +1 for adorable daughter who thinks my daughter is awesome.

4. Robert. nurturing instincts triggered. Robert is definitely a work in progress, but the skills my dadsona has are emotional competence, and that’s what Robert needs. meanwhile Robert has the experience and nature of adventure that dadsona lacks. they make a good picture together. plus he is super super respectful of dadsona’s consent. but his ending is a part of the narrative that normalizes mentally ill people being denied the same opportunity for romance. +1 cute dog. +1 consent is sexy. -1 let mentally ill people have love 2017

5. Hugo. he’s pretty great, but he needed to be fleshed out more. i feel like the best date with him would have been sitting and chatting, but that’s not compatible with a dating sim, apparently. also nothing against him, but i do not like wrestling. at all. plus i sort of like his development better with Damien’s ending, because Ernest gets a dog and that seems to improve their father-son relationship. -3 wrestling.

6. Brian. he’s a great guy and loves his daughter a lot. having a dog and enjoying the outdoors was a great dating experience with Brian. Amanda also got along really well with Daisy, and seemed to enjoy mentoring her a bit. however, i did not like the competitiveness. whether it was dadsona or Brian, it was a turnoff. and in all honesty... he reminds me of my dad too much, especially because Daisy is essentially a blonde me at 10. -3 elektra complex.

7. Joseph. no. -9001

Mary. yes. date Mary. raise her children. become a stay at home dad, and watch age-appropriate scary movies as a family activity. fall asleep to the sound of Mary promising to kill everyone who’s ever been mean to you. take Mary with you to visit Amanda. watch Mary absolutely demolish the frat boys at the college town bars. go as a group-date to that wine and cheese thing with Hugo and Damien.

2. literally adopt all the children. become everyone’s dad. send Val pictures of her dad with his dog and all the updates on his progress. aforementioned creepy movie night with Mary’s kids. start a clay crafting class in your backyard. kids love playing with clay. start a community garden and let the kids “help” with it, even if they’re just digging a hole to bury their stuffed toys and eating all the strawberries. give Ernest an “important” job that helps with the community and gets him out of his own angst for 2 minutes. vape pot in front of Lucien and tell him you’re hooked on oregano.
