Another year has come to an end, and I think it is safe to say that 2021 has been nothing short of a ride! As I know it has been for so many other people, the past couple of years have been...difficult, to say the least. In 2021 I stopped lurking within fandom--something that I have done since I was a teenager, so we won’t bother saying how long that has been--and finally became a part of this community. And I am so completely thankful that I shoved myself out of my comfort zone! 

I have found some of my best friends within this community, and I am constantly in awe of the pure talent and love that is shared here. So as one last BOOST for 2021, I thought we’d try something new and see how it goes! Perhaps we can make it a monthly tradition in 2022. Inspired by the lovely @the-starryknight​‘s TLC Tuesday’s, let me introduce DBC Rec-In’s. 

Respond to this post with anything that resonated with you this past year in fandom that you think, for whatever reason, should have a BOOST! Maybe something you or someone else created did not get the love that you think it should have. Maybe something stuck with you all year and you simply cannot get it out of your head. Robin Rocks Recs

2021 was the year in which I really found drarry - or rather, took a dive into this vast ocean that is the drarry fandom. The sheer talent we have here (of writers, artists, podficcers, reccers) is truly mind boggling. There are so many people I admire, and so when @drarryboosterclub suggested a rec-in to celebrate the end of the year, I decided to do this: recs for 12 fics of 12 writers I discovered this year. This fic is one of my all time angst favourites – it does this complicated thing where it hurts you and heals you at the same time. Beautiful prose, sharp and painful and gorgeous, still managing to be hopeful. And the second chapter – everything you’ll need and more, trust me.

This fic is the combination of MIND-MELTING HOT and deep, tender love and care you can only find in a bee fic, plus one of their hottest Harrys to date – happy and bossy and all around perfect. In case you’re wondering, the banner is a picture of a rug—after some, er, vigorous activities.

@softlystarstruck - give me something to hold onto (1.9k)

Wow, I mean, this fic. Arranging my thoughts about it, even now, months after reading it for the first time, is impossible. The heat—the clothes—pining Harry who is SO SEVERELY PINING—I might have lost my mind a bit while reading it. Eat this fic with a spoon or gulp it down whole, it’s remarkable.

@peachpety - Burning Down the House (4.1k) 

Will there ever be a time I won’t be affected by Joy’s words? no. Each and every one of his fics cuts deeply, in a loving way though? In this one, Joy does what he does best: it’s poetic, strong, emotional in a grab-you-by-the-throat way but very, very softly. Full of love. Beauty captured in words! 

@ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm - draco malfoy reads "the two headed calf" by laura gilpin (1.3k) 

From the very first line, this fic is electric, intense, so hot you might burn, this is not a joke, serious danger of combustion. This fic, with the risk of sounding hyperbolic, is my literal everything. Obsession in its purest form – and I’m talking about me, yeah?

How do you fit a story in 50 words? How do you do it repeatedly? What Starry does, we all know, is magic – and this compendium is truly spellbinding. Let yourself sink into the brilliance that this series is! Wonderful wonderful wonderful.

@the-starryknight - Starry's Microfic Compendium (5.1k) 

Soft, sweet, full of longing, pining through the ROOF, and obliviousness of the idiots’ kind that’s closest to my heart. This fic is a delight, and the art for it is so stunning – gri is a powerhouse in everything beautiful! 

@callmegri - dive (and have no fear) (4.5k) 

The experience of reading a tackytiger fic for the first time is something I can’t really describe – and this one had me incoherent for some long, long minutes. Intricate and complicated and absolutely perfect. Go for the world building, stay for – well. Everything.

@tackytigerfic - Our Little Life (7.2k) 

The sweetest advent fic possible, and then some. The pining is superb, the storyline is wonderful, the dual POV is brilliant—each of their voices is so different, and so inherently them. Be ready to fall in love with Harry and Draco all over again, to the backdrop of quarrelling choirs, dealing with trauma, and some of the sweetest children EVER. 

@academicdisaster24 - A Melody of You & Me (64.8k) 

Cav has actually written 9 fics based on the ship dynamics discourse post – each of them pure gold. Funny, lovely, warm, close, they have everything. I made the banner for origami, becaus it still lives in my head rent free (probably forever, by now). The whole series is just brilliant! 

@cavendishbutterfly - Ship Dynamics Worth Debating (4.2k) 

Peak dialogue, emotional hurt and comfort, sexting, Draco sending spicy pics, bioluminescence, why are you still reading this list, run to AO3? This fic is perfection in 21k words. Could not let go until I devoured the very last word at *beep* in the morning. 

@moonflower-rose - Watch The Castles Burn (21.3k) 

Peony knows just how to grab my heart in two hands and squeeze in every single fic – but this one. This Harry is so in love, I actually melted a bit. It’s incredibly sweet, endearing, hot, and most of all, loving. Just – beautiful.

Draco reaches out and rests a hands over his cheek, a soft crack to his voice when he tics their foreheads together and says, "No, no you do love me, you said you love me more than starlight, remember? Or more than you thought you could — no, you love me, Harry."

Draco clutches the fabric of his shirt in his hand and kisses him and there a softness to it and a confession of love, "I love you."

He wants to kiss him back, he wants to pour all that love he has for Draco into it but he doesn't, "I don't."

"Harry," He whispers while his hands trail down towards his own to weave their fingers together but he holds his hand back because if he doesn't, he might want to hold onto Draco's hand forever, "Baby, say it back."

"But I don't love you, Draco."

"But I do, Harry." Draco held onto him, a breath caught in his throat, his soft sobs against his chest, "I love you."

Hi, I'm searching for three one shots.

1.- it was about harry and draco getting friends after the war for owls, and harry fall in love so hard that he only talk about draco, and every one around him is like "oh no, is sixt year again" when they are back to hogwarts.

2.- this beginning when harry and dumbledore are back of the crave of horrors with the "horrocrux" and harry was thinking about draco while playing with a peny that the DA uses in fifth year but now he uses with draco to comunicate, they were in a relationship for third year (I think) but they don't talk about feelings until the end, in this albus give the elder wand to draco willingly, and lucius and severus are in a relationship too.

3.- the last one was named "the most desirable bachelor" I think, but I can't find it. It was about draco being the more wanted man in the wizarding World, he was married with pansy for convenience but they get divorced and she was with goyle (or crave, I don't remember), and draco was in a secret relationship with harry and they go out in a party that draco was financiting cause skeeter was being her anoying be as always.

Is okey if you don't know any of those, but could you recomend ones bottom harry fanfic? Without the tag cause I swear I read all the ones that has the tag.

Dear 2021, 

You weren’t a blessing obviously, not one of the best years I had but I’m grateful for everything. I wish I was more better with words but here’s what I have to say. With the year end, it marks exactly an year of me discovering Drarry community and there’s nothing i’m more thankful for. Here’s my gratitude to one of the best people I’ve met here and adore with all my heart,

My first and foremost goes to @just-ineffable-things do you know when we first met? Me either but I took the pain to go through my first masterlist and you’ve been connected to me since my 6th prompt, Pinned. Do you even know how long ago that was? Way before anyone I met in the community quite possibly. I remember waiting for you to leave comments on my prompts as soon as I used to post it and would grin like a baby when I’d finally see it. I think if it wasn’t for you supporting me, I’d had given up writing for Drarry (Ik i say that a lot but its true). I love and you’ll forever be my platonic drarry soulmate 🦋

Secondly, It goes to my dear beloved @drarrywords, you are quite possibly another best thing that happened to me this year. If it wasn’t for you proofreading even my shittiest works, I don’t know what i’d had done. So, Thank you, I absolutely love you and probably always will. 💜.

Now @thebusyfangirl and @weirdvibeskid I haven’t seen you both in a couple of days and I hope wherever you are, You know that I miss you and that I cherish you. I adore you. You’re also among the key reasons why I kept going and I hope you know that. I love both of you so much, My virtuals hugs should reach you anytime soon.

Positive A03 Comments

Inspired by @drarryboosterclub and @xx-thedarklord-xx's posts and shares.

I didn't choose my favorite comments, necessarily, but the ones that I needed at the time, as a brand spankin' new writer with zero support but reader comments. These are all from Eagles in Truro. Why? Because it's a big, gnarly mess that doesn't FIT. It's a freaking wreck o' ships. It's angst and fluff and smut and humor and I KNEW it was weird. I KNEW it wouldn't fit. (Because the author is a weirdo, too)

These comments were the ONLY feedback I EVER got from ANYONE on my writing. Nobody saw this fic but me and the readers.

So, these are of the "You're my shot of whiskey, not everyone's cup of tea" variety. Because that's okay. It's okay to never get your work recced. It's okay to not get hits. It's okay to get hits and few kudos.

It's okay to be a wallflower with a waltz in your head while the bass shakes the boards.

Hi marina! I have been out of the loop in the current fandom drama, don't feel obligated to answer but if you can, could you please tell me what is the deal with the deranged weirdo anna92/Jii (?) spamming fics talking about "revenge" and that bottom __ is bad top__is good blah blah what started all that?

Hi!

Honestly, I know as much as everyone else. There's an individual who's recently started targeting Top!Draco fics (and writers in general, including fics of theirs that aren't even mature/explicit). I don't think anyone knows what triggered this reaction from this person, who they are, or their age.

The first wave of comments came from AO3 user Anna92 mid-March 2021, and was dealt with quickly because AO3 could delete their account. The fandom (myself included, although I wasn't targeted by this wave of harassment) reacted mostly by creating more bottom!Harry out of spite. Some people gifted their works to Anna92. And since Anna's comments were repetitive and exaggerated, even though they were certainly upsetting and disturbing, many of us were able to laugh them off as some (probably very young) troll throwing a tantrum at us.

In the last week of April, this user came back as a guest by the name of Jii and, later on, “Draco Top Fans Suck Stinky Dick”. I think people are still receiving comments regularly as of May 1st, although I haven't gotten one in days, thankfully.

This time AO3 can't do much about it, because the troll isn't commenting from an account. When I reported their harassing comments on my fic, this is the reply I got from the AO3 abuse team:

But that's not everything that changed. In the last few days, the comments this individual has been leaving have veered from non-sensical insults and threats (ie. "shit eater; dumb bitch; you will die in agony") to... much scarier, in my opinion, targeted harassment ("I will not leave you alone; you punish your fandom when you devote your shitty fanfiction to me; how easy it is to manipulate you").

If this individual is targeting you or anyone you know, I strongly advise following AO3's suggestions and disabling anonymous comments on your fics or moderating comments so you have to approve them before they appear under your works, and not engaging with this person whatsoever (including not dedicating fics to them or mentioning their existence in your author notes whatsoever). It's clear they want a reaction: don't give them one. And remember that you're not alone, you do not deserve this, and this individual's behaviour only reflects their own problems, and not yours or the fandom's.

In my opinion, the best thing we could all do to get through this as a fandom is mass-restrict/moderate comments on our fanworks to rid this person of a platform, and boost and support each other so no one is left to deal with this alone (check @drarryboosterclub and @yours-drarry). But I have genuinely no idea what's going to happen from here on. I just really hope this troll doesn't push too many people out of our fandom.

Well. So far...decent? I've had a pretty wild January in my personal life, so a lot of things have been put to the side when I really wish I had the time/energy to work on. 😭

BUT! I had said no fests unless I could finish something in time and THAT I have at least held up on. 🤣 I barely have time for personal stuff, how in the heck will I force myself to make something? Definitely a huge relief.

I'll be lucky to have 1 to post and I'm running the dang thing. BUT THAT'S OKAY! It's something fun for everyone! Not just me! I'm so glad I put it together regardless if I participate or not!

All in all writing has been a bit of a mess BUT ANOTHER BUT because I've been too exhausted to use this mashed potato brain to write I've been able to chill and be present with my husband which is also quite nice. 💕

Still having so much fun with the podcast and I hope that never ends. 🎙

I've also discovered I love Harrymort and I was not expecting this and I'm living for it right now?? We'll see who I am next month.

All around not mad at January - but won't be proposing anytime soon.

How's 2022 going...

Welp, a lot better than it could have. I've made some great new friends and finished a fest on time which I was really worried about.

I joined a server I absolutely adore and have done SOOOO much writing with all of the encouragement there. I got a great fanfic husband, son, and son-in-law which is so much fun and brings so many smiles to my face. I posted a whopping 14 pieces and over 18k words. I'm honestly so shocked and pleased with how far my writing has come. The end of the slump is perhaps in sight.

January brought so much excitement and I can't wait to see what February has in store.

Hi there dear Anon, and thank you for this ask 💖 I’m not sure if I can answer your question completely, but I’ll give it my best try. It's going to be long, I apologize in advance.

Let me just start by saying: I’ve not been here long. Not to bore you with the details, but for example, I’ve not really engaged with Tumblr until maybe April this year (I actually checked – the first time I posted my work here was this June!) so the whole fandom thing is still new to me. I really don’t know how it was in the past, and of course I can’t say what’ll be in the future. What I can say though is, look at all we have now.

Because, really, just wow. I could not have imagined the wealth of writers and artists and fans that exist here. There are so many of them, I seem to find new drarry writers and artists to obsess over every day. (Or reccers, or headcanon-ers, or rebloggers, or commentors). Every. Day. And I’m not even exaggerating! There’s so much goodness it blows my mind on a regular basis. People are giving us their time, their passion, their enthusiasm, and like – honestly, I don’t have the words to say how amazing it is.

There’s more, still. So many projects and fests and endeavors ran by wonderful people (angels?) that spend their own personal time to give us mortals more joy to read and see and love. I don’t even know if I’d have posted anything here if it wasn’t for @drarrymicrofic – seeing the support they give and all the amazing fics they share. @the-starryknight has TLC Tuesdays, a next-level-god-stuff of encouragement. All the wonderful reccers out there doing god’s work (like @thedrarrylibrarian or @sitp-recs [who doesn’t do new reclists at the moment, so please no asks about it], @drarryspecificrecs, and so many others). People who comment on fics/art. People who share them. These are all reasons for people to engage with fandom (I know they are for me!), and more and more of them keep coming (@drarryboosterclub , @drarryshorts, every fest ever, and so so many more!). my honest, non-professional, newbie-who-even-let-you-speak, knows-nothing opinion is this: as long as we make sure to hold on to the joy in fandom, it’ll keep.

The way I see it, when you enjoy fandom, and express it, it creates more joy. Maybe it’s naïve to think this way, I dunno, but it's worked for me so far.

To your worries I’d say this: seeing the bright side can be hard, I know. There are things to worry about, in the world, in fandom (trolls and hate and why??). But the bright side here is so freaking bright – keep looking for it.

I can't say if all the INCREDIBLE people we have here now will stay in the fandom, or if more will come. Who knows? this world is full on crazy. I never expected to be here, honestly. I never thought I'd have the courage, for one. But these things happen, and now I know for sure I'm not going anywhere. I'm actually planning another one-shot-collection series that'll come out soon, so yay for future fun!

There will always be other people who like what you like. The internet is massive that way. Find them, support them, and keep positive. There’s so much joy to be had in this fandom, and my firm belief is, it won’t go anywhere. People may come and go, numbers can go up and down, but the love we all have for this won’t disappear, I don’t think. I came back to HP after over a decade, if that’s any sort of proof.

Btw, if you need a list of people to follow – sounds like you’ve been here longer than me but I do spend a good many hours on this haha – of creators/ reccers/ rebloggers of drarry content, please let me know. I’d be more than happy to comprise a list, although it could never be comprehensive enough.

Wow, it really came out long. Sorry. I just wanted to say - try not to worry about what will be, and enjoy what we have now, because it's amazing. I know I am continuously astounded by it (objectively I think we have the best fans 😜) and will do what I can to contribute to it.

One month ago, people within our community were sharing their New Year Resolutions about fandom. Many people wanted to write and create for the pure pleasure of it, the pure joy. They wanted to create without any stress about what the thought they “should” be doing or creating, and without any real or implied deadlines. Others wanted to read more content that others produce, not because they were expected to read it but because the work was something they were interested in. Even more wanted to become more engaged in the fandom space, and to focus on building relationships with people who support them, challenge them, and remind them of why this community matters. 

How have those resolutions been going?
