Did a speedrun through modern cdrama Everyone Loves Me because I'm a fan of both leads. A fairly well constructed romcom for a specific trope, AND also one of the most valid examples of the critique that cdrama storylines are pointlessly over-extended. This would have been a great modern drama at 12 episodes. Unfortunately, it's at least 10 episodes too long. The literal gaming (characters interacting while playing videogames) is very light - it's an initiating plot device piece but doesn't consume much actual screen time. The real genre is IT workplace romance with Hidden Identity trope.
Do you like:
* Capable & ambitious female lead x male lead with a competency kink whose turn-offs are white lotus & green tea girls and turn-ons are brash ladies who can cuss you out; dressing up to impress is not required
* Romantic dynamic of equal partners (2 strong personalities, not active/passive)
* "We don't know yet who is going to be the breadwinner. My goal is to be a CEO."
* Low heat (just a few kisses),
* modern workplace dramas (so much working)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[heavy spoilers below]
The actual set up & outline are:
* Online friend group who casually game together, in the last days of university. One of the guys starts catching feelings for the girl, our FL (let's call him Gamer Friend). FL isn't romantically considering Gamer Friend at all, because she has a crush on a guy from her uni.
* This crush is Gamer Friend in rl! 😮
* ML isn't open to being crushed on by anyone at rl uni, because he is already hung up on FL (as his online friend) 🙈
* FL asks for advice from her gaming buds on how to pursue her rl crush. Gamer Friend doesn't want her to succeed, because he wants to win her heart, so he keeps giving terrible advice to chase him by acting out the soft-spoken innocent maiden archetype (the opposite of FL's real boisterous & brash personality)
* This creates a comedy of errors where ML in rl is being pursued by the woman he's in love with, but he's shooting her down left & right. This culminates in her confessing and he publically rejects her in a harsh manner. When she comes crying (and vengeful) to the group, the guys all realize the identity confusion. Appropriately horrified, bros have no idea what to do. (This whole scene is gold tbh.)
* This plotline covers 7 episodes, but should have been dealt with in 4.
* Next 5 episodes (should have been 2!): Gamer Friend, toiling under karma, tries to be virtually supportive of his beloved while in person desperately making gestures to show remorse & have her less willing to obliterate his RL person. (this is all complicated by them both hired into the same company post-grad; there's a whole gaming dev & art design subplot - like in Lighter & Princess, the writers did the research so the setting is reality-based). This arc ends with identity reveal: she finally knows irl crush = Gamer Friend
* Next 6-7 episodes lead her from being (rightfully) furious and humiliated to them finally becoming friendly & supportive of each other. He waits to ask for more until he feels truly forgiven for the shakespearean hijinks that kept them apart. Includes work drama and fake-dating For Reasons. This arc, again, could have been 3-4 episodes.
* Final 5 episode arc is dating era and culmination of the gaming dev plotline. Heavy emphasis on work drama. Only 2 out of the last 5 episodes had significant romance material for the main couple, which was the major flaw in the drama. Avoided the separation cliche but also no marriage scenes at the end - we just see that they're still close, supportive partners a year later. Should have been 3 episodes ;)
The structure is right for a simple rom com set up of: one party pursues, gets rejected, then the other party pursues & corrects their mistake. The misunderstandings are logical enough; FL is assertive and we see evidence of her talent (not just told); ML likes her for herself & doesn't want a childish, obedient woman like the idol dramas represent; they are shown to make a good team & respect each other; the wronged party isn't a push over and their forgiveness has to be earned. It's clear why they like each other and that they work as a couple. (Though the emphasis is on compatibility & domesticity rather than sexual heat.)
The showrunner just needed to compress each arc and spend a lot less time on corporate minutiae. The way I engage with this type of drama is to binge, skip all 2nd couple scenes, and liberal use of fast forward ⏩⏩.

Dramacool? Is everything ok?
Does anyone know what’s up with dramacool? I was hoping to watch a new Chinese drama but I can’t seem to connect to my usual dramacool website, dramacool.cr.
since dramacool.ee and dramacool.as are gone, .cr has been the next safest version. But it seems to not be working
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ive tried other websites under Dramacool and none seem to be working.
is this only happening to me? or are other people being affected as well?

K-drama Rec Masterlist (part 1)
For Aromantics and or Asexuals
K-dramas with NO explicit Romance:
Mother
Mother is a K-drama based around a teacher who witnesses an abused student. She tries to intervene however as the abuse was denied, nothing could be done about it. She takes the child and runs away. Cue a heart wrenching story of a mother and a daughter exploring their new found family with many road blocks.
My Rating: 9.8/10
D.P
D.P is a drama based on the ML in the Military, and explores abuse and corruption. The two main characters work to find Deserters of the military, dealing with suicide and difficult topics. Be ready to laugh and cry, and cry some more.
My Rating: 8.9/10
Move to Heaven
Move to Heaven is... So damn emotional. I cried multiple times per episode and the story was beautiful. The character development was amazing and they were easy to empathize with. Deals with a lot of death, but in an interesting way. This was one drama I was surprised that I loved. The ML has autism and his uncle comes to support him, but with a negative first impression. They work together at Move to Heaven, a trauma cleaning service.
My Rating: 9.2/10
Juvenile Justice
Juvenile Justice is a very intriguing one. Judges who work in a Juvenile court, who work more closely with the cases. There are many issues with laws surrounding Juvenile crime, leading to emotional scenes and truly angering events. It's easy to understand the Main characters, and the contrast of the cold FL and warm ML and their friendship without Romance is refreshing.
My Rating: 8.8/10
Note: I am new to Tumblr, so I don't know how this works, but if you can comment recommendations or anything you like, I'd love that :)

Lovers lost in time loops and organ trafficking to make you heartache o( ̄┰ ̄*)ゞ
TRIAGE (Mystery/Supernatural/Romance/) 2022 – 13 episodes
Thai BL
Rating: 10/10
Tumblr media
Time travel, time loops, murders... Triage has all the action and drama to draw you in at its fast pace in a dense plot that won't leave you time to breathe between episodes. Focusing on the evolution of human beings in contact with each other, this beautiful romantic drama is an amazing elegy to the beauty of human beings in their ability to change to become better.
Tumblr media
Tin is an emergency room doctor who runs between near-death patients every day. His routine is shattered when he comes face to face with Tol, a student who has been in a car accident and is in critical condition. After failing to save him, he wakes up again on the morning of the day of the accident, and has to save him once more, but without success. As the time loops progress, he eventually realises that he must solve the situation that leads to Tol's death if he is to be able to save him and finally break out of this time loop. But as he gets to know the young man, another goal is added to that of saving: that Tol should fall in love with him... Locked in a hopeless struggle, having to juggle his feelings with the boy's recurring amnesia, he is a tortured doctor fighting against a destiny that he wants to change at all costs for the sake of his patient and his own good.
Tumblr media
Tol will gradually change through contact with the doctor. Understanding his own mistakes and trying to repair them, step by step, he discovers himself in a new light, with a lot of maturity and distance. Tin, on the other hand, will see himself changed by his repeated attempts to save the boy. Constantly confronted with the limits of their possibilities in these constant time travels, they will experience a tortured romance, alternately finding themselves having to deal with a repetition of their own history.
Tumblr media
Very well acted and directed, this drama will bring you a breath of fresh air in this vast category of BL drama with its original story. With the air of TENET or Stein Gate but without the technicality, the suspense is maintained until the end and it's up to you to watch it to find out the question that keeps nagging at you throughout the 13 episodes: will their love story have a happy ending? I won't say any more...

My curiosity got the better of me, and with much trepidation, I jumped into the Hidden Love bandwagon. I now understand the hype. Cdramas has always been hits and misses for me. But especially those much hyped ones. I usually find them either too over the top or too cringy for my taste. I must also admit that having read too much negative comments about the FL from other fan groups have affected how I used to enjoy watching her, though come to think of it I haven't really finished any of her past works. But going back to Hidden Love, the drama itself has solicited some negative comments mainly because of the couple's origin story. I believe the novel where it was based was rather problematic. In this drama, the main issue for me came from the actress they chose to portray the younger version of the FL. She looks way too young to be 14. Hence, it affected the overall feel of the earlier episodes. But if you are able to get past that, then I think the drama is well executed. Nothing weird or icky at all, even for those who don't really like those age gap/brother's bff trope. It's basically about a childhood crush that eventually became a reciprocated and mature love story. I like how the drama showed the progression of a hero worship into a crush, then eventually love, and also how the ML catches feelings and goes about it.
The drama is somewhere in between relatable and idealistic. Meaning situations are realistic enough for viewers to identify with but resolutions are portrayed thru a romantic lens. It's a kind of drama you watch when you want to feel light and happy. It's swoony, feel good, fuss free romantic drama. It has been awhile since I've binge-watched a drama especially a Cdrama but this was so worth it. 💗

Please enlighten us with your unpopular opinion, Nikko.
I love drama. Anyone who ever says, "Oh, no. I don't like drama," doesn't actually mean that. They mean, "I don't like personal drama that effects me in negative way." Drama is fucking great and interesting. Watching how people react to deeply personal problems with others will never not be interesting. The problem itself doesn't even really matter. A partner cheated in a relationship and their families are fighting? I want to know what everyone said. A rich family member passes and gives all the inheritance to someone everyone hates? I want to watch the meltdown. Someone Tweeted a bad thing? Literally everyone including me is in the comments reading. Who it is doesn't matter. Celebrity, some Youtuber, the people who live down the hall- I don't care. It's interesting. I go a step further and say that personal drama that you are "winning" is even better, but that starts to make me sound... a little edgy. People will call others who follow celebrity drama "superficial", but then go watch and read... drama entertainment. As it turns out, watching humans deal with human problems with other humans is fascinating. Just because you prefer to watch anime characters cry about their personal problems instead of real people doesn't make you better than people who watch Youtube drama channels or follow celebrity drama - it just gives you some artificial sense of superiority over people and let's you look down on them. There is obviously some healthy level of engagement with drama, but I don't need to qualify this correct opinion.

I love the slightly blissful, filling feeling after finishing an amazing drama. Like I’m on a cloud where everything feels RIGHT for a moment.
I don’t always jump to a new drama right away after finishing a big one (like EAW) -- I feel like I need some time to meditate and process. But I just LOVE the good feeling when a drama was so good that you don’t regret spending so much time on it.
I’m not even sure 2020 and 2021 had those moments for me, but truthfully, I was busy having and nursing kids those years. (I know I need to catch up on Cherry Magic, so I’ll do that soon, and hopefully feel blissed out again.) 2019 was that little magic moment in-between kids when I wasn’t pregnant or nursing, and I had Kinou Nani Tabeta to sustain me when it was new then, and it was such a perfect moment of happiness -- I looked forward to the *feeling* I had while watching and re-watching it.
Same with Old Fashion Cupcake, and now EAW. I can’t wait to re-watch those shows and have the same feelings suffuse me. OFC just gives me this sense of bittersweet intoxication whenever I think about it -- the stories of aging vs. youth, overpowering your insecurities. God, so good.
I’ll do a pinned post on what I’ve watched, what I want/need to watch, and what I want to re-watch soon, to keep me accountable. Now that EAW is over, I have the final eps of KinnPorsche to watch, and I’ve been watching Cafe Minamdang solely while working out. (I really like it, and I REALLY LOVE Seo In-guk and his impeccable comedy/drama acting, but unfortunately, the female lead is not doing it for me, acting-wise.)
But there’s so much out there. I’ll make my list soon. Unicorn Ni Notte is definitely on the list -- looks super cute.

"Fine. Xiu is unlucky. He was born to implicate people."
"Don't worry. If God sees I'm not a good person, he'll allow me to live a long life."
@dangermousie got me watching Eternal Brotherhood for the RIDE & DIE FRIENDSHIP and the historical drama flamboyant, incorrigible, badass main character of it all
boyyyyy that main character is indeed an entertaining motherfucker. This is kinda like if you took Yu Shisan from A Journey to Love and put him in a blender with the scheming protagonist of The Ingenious One. Then made that dude a general who is secretly v good at: (a) his job and (b) pretending to be a hapless scoundrel.
I didn't get his whole chaotic neutral vibes at first but by the second episode I was in love with him.
I hear tell this was a 40 episode drama that was streamlined into 24 and you can feel it - no extra filler, just Stuff Happening all the time.
Everyone is just constantly plotting and faking it 24/7. And the good guys are pretending to be Very Ok™ while screaming inside.
Very attractive cdrama. Pretty people, nice sets, great cinematography - they didn't have a huge budget and that's being handled with creativity. It doesn't look cheap at all. It's a small thing, but the way they try to use natural light makes things feel more real and middle-ages-y.
The death flags are everywhere. They're here for a good time, not a long time 👌
Despite knowing better, I'm shipping main character disaster man with his childhood sweetheart, because she's also shameless & during 7 years of exile instead of letters he has just been occasionally sending her momentos of traumatic events he's experienced. No communication but here, I bestow you horse hair. Another year, a feather. Ah, today a dead scorpion! And dear reader, she accepts and stores them all. Romance is not a main plot but please doomed narrative, just let them both live 🙏.

~ Iburigurashi (Smoked Couple): Ep 1. Favorite Stills ~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
~ A few weeks back, while on the hunt for a soothing J-drama, I decided to explore ‘Iburigurashi’—- the story about a young couple who spends their Sundays cooking smoked food. They learn from each other, not just through words but also through presence.
I think the beauty of daily life is captured so amazingly in such slow Japanese dramas. There’s a lot of room for reflection, for joy, for appreciating the grace of everyday.
This is the biggest reason why I love these shows. They are a hug to the tired mind and remind it to find happiness in the ordinary, once again.~ 🍚🍢

Car wreck and rebar through the skull in the pilot episode, beaten up and stabbed (a lot) by Maddie's ex, find out his best friend who he became a firefighter with died in front of him, and now abducted by psycho paramedic who keeps stopping his heard and shocking him
