Don’t let anyone fool you. This is what grad school actually looks like.

My brain has been off for the past few weeks and it was great. This morning I saw a friend had posted a really illuminating note on FB, and it inspired me to jump into a book for the first time since the end of last semester. Feels nice. What moves me to be in theory is friendship and dreaming a better world. 💕

Today’s source of serotonin: referring to sex as an “activity” in my paper. I mean it is one. But it just sounds funny categorized under the same grouping as cooking, hiking, playing scrabble... we truly love to see it.

Personally I am SCREAMING at Halberstam’s article on Chu ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Admittedly I don’t like ALC and have read a very limited selection of her work. But anyway. PERIODDDDD. ☠️☠️☠️☠️

Tonight I’ve been compiling some reading material as part of my work for my project proposal. Blasting a Placebo playlist. Drinking some refreshing and exciting water para variar hahahaha. Munching on some seaweed. I went on twitter on a two minute break and came out with an extremely useful resource for my reseaarch. A busy day.
I’m not feeling so hurt from my small birthday thing that made me upset a few days ago. Also I run now. So that’s good. It’s such a wild time.

I hate academics
nothing like a really “radical” or uh “revolutionary” publication concerning big words like abolition to be available exclusively through purchase for THIRTY US AMERICAN DOLLARS on, wait for it.... AM*ZON DOT COM. like. the praxis... where tf is it.
like who the fuck is actually supposed to read that? who was the intended audience? because as a grad student, I definitely cannot afford that. are other broke ass people supposed to read it? no one who could substantiate... instantiate that work could afford that. just keep it in your little echo chamber then.

Reading nook in my bedroom. I only really read here before I go to sleep, and for no more than an hour, usually. But it’s a nice spot. On days like today when it’s rainy and warm, it’s nice to just sit with the lights off and think. 🌝

Lmfao GROSS. Hate when I’m in the middle of an article that is otherwise fine only to see that the authors are citing some dumb ass scholarship?? Scholars from the US love to think that they are ideology ~free~ then cite the fucking CIA like it’s nothing. I HAVE to laugh!😂😂😂😂

Today I got cold, put on my favorite coat and colorful jewelry, and kept writing. Tonight is going to be long as I hammer out the bulk of this lit review, but I’m looking forward to it! Academia isn’t so bad sometimes.

I mean I had a ton of plans for the summer, like going to see fam/chill in Mexico then doing prelim research in Cuba but then like. boom the pandemic happened. at first I was like “ok im gonna read SO many books,” but the libraries aren’t open, so really it’s just like: OK. which books did I magically, horde-like-ly request and then I forget to return, and now have in my house that I can read this summer, to work on my research? NOT THAT MANY, ACTUALLY.
I ended up using most of a gift card to Powells that id been saving for my next trip to PDX to buy some FUN, LEISURELY books. so maybe I won’t do a ton of stuff for my own research. but ohhhhhh am I gonna have a fucking blast reading gay poems. maybe stuff isn’t so bad.

OBViously everything sucks but
I'm so bummed about the library not circulating physical materials rn. tons of stuff is available online, but there’s just SO much that is only accessible in print (at least thru my lib system). inter-state+national+international libs aren’t open and sharing books either, which I get also. I just miss the big ass library and the absolutely wild quantity of shit they have.
anyway I had a chat with one of our librarians tonight about accessing some stuff that I didn’t think I I could get. But they work magic, sooooo yeah. I don’t think I will ever tire of saying how much I love librarians. the actual, literal heroes of academia. ok them and the maintenance staff. faves<3
