So I’ve actually been wondering for some time now regarding Dragon Age, Origins specifically. Do y’all have any takes on what modern AU would look like? Do you adapt the original plot to the age or do you come up with an entirely different story altogether? How do you go about it?

Like I’ve had the idea spinning in my head like a pizza pop in a microwave but honestly as fun as it seems I’m seriously struggling to come up with much beyond snippets given the game kind of hinging on the Wardens’ inability to communicate on a large scale or travel fast due to technological limitations not ready present in the modern time anymore, y’know?

I LOVE reading modern AUs and the Kirkwall Crew not having last names is always so funny. I've seen writers ignore it all together and just don't mention it. I've also seen them pick last names for them. One I found particularly funny was that Anders had a complicated last name (the readers didn't know it), but whenever a character would attempt to read his last name he'd be like "Oh, don't try just Dr. Anders is fine."

I think Anders is a nickname that became so ubiquitous that it doesn't even occur to him that his friends just straight up. don't know his name

Fenris could be a last name. His name could be Leto Fenris but he's like "do not fucking call me Leto it's a dumb name. just call me Fenris" i've known plenty of people who just go by their last name for whatever reason

Isabela's last name is Arainai because she and Zevran got married PURELY so she could take his last name and didn't have to use her mom's or her late husband's names
