I've been watching Star Wars (The Clone Wars and the prequel trilogy) again while I make my Supanova project (it's wings and they're HUGE and I underestimated my time and overestimated my ability lol) and I've come to a realisation.
When I saw Darth Vader, I never saw Darth Vader. I always saw Anakin Skywalker. When I first watched the original trilogy, I saw Anakin Skywalker beneath that mask. I grew up with Anakin Skywalker in The Clone Wars. I grew up with Ahsoka and Padmé and Obi-Wan and Yoda and Satine and Maul. I can't pinpoint when I learned that Palpatine is Sidious.
Anakin Skywalker was always Anakin Skywalker for me, even when I watched the original trilogy for the first time (yes, I did watch the OT before the PT, but not before TCW). He was Anakin in that suit. I couldn't comprehend how Anakin could have been so evil. It seemed that he was masking in the same way I mask my social skills.
Then I realised, after watching ROTS: Anakin is no longer Anakin. Anakin is truly dead and buried deep within that caped black scuba-breathing suit.
Why did this pop into my head? It's all because of Lynette Noni's The Medoran Chronicles.
Spoilers from here on, so read at your own peril!
Aven snapped. He was good, he was prepared to show Alex that he could be good to humans. Then he learned she was one, and he snapped. The climax of Draekora is watching the threads of his mind fall apart. One thread snapped and the entire net fell apart, replaced with new vigour for his original hatred of humans.
Aven became two completely different people. He morphed into something evil and abhorrent, much the same way as Anakin did when he became Darth Vader.
I dunno, it's just something always that struck me. I loathe what Anakin became but I still love Anakin. I loathe Darth Vader. I loathe the Sith. But I still love Anakin.
And don't get me started on Order 66! What the heck! Was! That!
Master Plo Koon! Master Fisto! Aayla Sicura! Ki-Adi Mundi! And all the other nameless Jedi who were killed as a result of that Order!
And the Clones who turned on their Generals, on their Commanders! Jesse! Cody! Rex! (Thank goodness he came back!)
But yeah, I guess that's enough ranting.
Just... Star Wars is special to me. And I want to protect the characters I know and love!

Ava’s Battle: Chapter One
Just a few notes. 1, Ava is Kaiden's age. 2, This chapter skips around a lot. 3, After the skipping, we'll arrive at the end of Draekora.
This is fairly Bear X Reader, especially in the last few chapters.
I ship Stironnigan, but I also want Bear for myself. Sorry, Declan.
I DO NOT OWN THE MEDORAN CHRONICLES. I ONLY OWN AVA.
Alex spun around to hear voices echoing in the forest. A girl saw her and said, "Hey! What are you doing out here?" There were three people, two guys, and a girl. All three were beautiful.
The girl in the group was lightly tan and had short, boyish, and mousey brown hair. The girl had grey eyes and light purple lipstick. She had a butterfly wrist tattoo and was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, black sneakers, and had a ring dangling from a chain on her neck. Her leather jacket looked much like Alex's.
One of the guys had short blonde hair, lightish skin, and mischievous blue eyes. He had on a t-shirt and jeans, nothing too special. What Alex noticed about him was his cocky grin. The other guy had dark shaggy hair and beautiful brown doe, but still mischievous, eyes. His skin was light, but tan. He also wore a t-shirt and jeans, but with the addition of a chain with a ring hanging from it.
"Who are you?" Alex asked, searching the group of three.
"I'm Jordan," said the blonde boy, pointing at himself, "and those two are Bear and Ava." Bear and Ava waved at Alex.
The gesture was so genuine Alex felt herself wave back. "And you're from?" Alex prompted.
"The Acadamy," Ava stated it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Where else?" Bear said, emphasizing the fact that he thought it obvious. Alex almost wilted with relief.
"Your turn," said Jordan, "same questions."
"I'm Alexandra Jennings, but you can call me Alex."
------------
"Are you aliens?" Alex asked. When the others burst out laughing, Alex frowned. "Different worlds."
"Sorry- sorry Alex," Ava said, struggling to stop laughing. "We're human, by the way."
"How can I understand you, then, if I'm in another world?" Alex asked, genuinely intrigued.
"Well, we can, soooo, let's just leave it at that," Ava said, shrugging.
"What about this school of yours? You mentioned something about Akarnae being a school for the gifted, what does that mean?" Alex asked. Bear motioned for Alex to look at Jordan, so she turned her head. He smirked, then disappeared.
Alex's mouth was wide open in shock. "HOW! I mean- what did you do?"
Jordan chuckled, and then replied, "It's my gift. Transcendence." Ava waved Alex's attention over to her. Suddenly, Ava changed into a dark-skinned beauty, with shocking red hair and brown eyes. She even changed clothes.
Then Ava sprouted green horns, and her skin started turning to light lime. Her legs became like a horse's, and her clothes became green and flowery. Her hair became braided ripples of baby blue hair, and her eyes became sunset orange.
When Ava spoke, her voice was like sweet water. "Tada. My gift is shapeshifting. I can turn into just about anything animate, but inanimate objects, not so much. If I become someone who already exists, I can use their gift. If they have one, that is," Ava shrugged and transformed back into herself.
"Bear, show her your gift," Ava said, turning to Bear.
Ava's Battle: A Medoran Chronicles Fanfiction.
"Princess Delucia," Ava said, nodding to the younger girl. "Please Ava, call me Delucia," Delucia Cavelle was a princess, however, and Ava, along with her two friends, Kaiden James and Declan Stirling, were determined to use her given title. They had, of course, all grown up around Princess Delucia, knowing her because of their parents high classes, and in Declan's case, high rankings.
"Kaid..." Ava said, drawing his name out. She had never been interested in him. She wasn't a lesbian, she liked men too, but Kaiden was more of a brother. So, she was asking him for advice on girls. He of course, was only about 14, but he still knew more than she did.
"What the he-" Ava was shellshocked, and moved away slowly. She closed Bear and Jordan's door and scurried back to her own. What were they making in there?
Ava held back her tears for as long as she could. But still, the waterworks flowed as she looked at her mother and father's remains, lying in a casket. "Hey, A, it's okay," Bear said, coming up behind her. Ava sobbed on her best friend's shoulder.
"Do it!" Bear yelled. Ava screeched as Jordan poured cold, ice water onto her head. "Jordan Sparker!" Ava yelled turning around to face her blonde friend. Then, she turned to face Bear. "Barnold Eustace Arthur Ronnigan! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!" "Please don't hurt me," Bear whimpered. Ava whipped out her comm TCD. "Worse, I'm calling your mother."
"Thank you for letting me stay here, Mrs. Ronnigan," Ava said, genuinely appreciative for her friend's loving mother. "Please, call me Dorothy," Bear's mother said, giving Ava a bright smile.
"Thank you, Dorothy," Ava said before she moaned in pain again. "It's alright, dear. I've had very bad menstrual cramps myself," Dorothy handed Ava a heating pad.
"Fletcher? Are you in here?" Ava called, looking for the kind doctor. "Over here, Ava," Fletcher called, and Ava was relieved to see a vial of pain medicine in his hand. "Do you need your painkillers for this week?" Ava nodded. "Have your cramps gotten better or worse since I put you on that medicine?" "Slightly better."
"Bear?" "Yeah, A?" "Can I tell you something?" Ava looked at Bear. "Tell away," Ava took a deep breath. "I- I'm bisexual," Bear looked at Ava. "So am I."
Ava looked at the girl who had seemingly come out of the forest. "The Acadamy."
Ava was worried. Really, really worried. Alex and D.C. hadn't come back from where they both had gone, of course, at different times and places. Ava shapeshifted into Hunter and focused on Alex. What she saw, shocked her.
Alex, Ava, and Bear all shared a look. Jordan and D.C. needed to be pushed together, in a most - romantic way.
"I... hate Karter!" Ava breathed out, as she doubled over after her Epsilon Combat Class. Kaiden and Declan shared a look with her. They both agreed.
"They need to get together already," Ava whispered to Bear, looking at both Alex and Kaiden, and Jordan and D.C. all chatting together. "Which pair?" He questioned. "Both."
Ava was excited to meet her younger classmates, so when she stepped out besides Kaiden and Skyla, she was excited to see Jordan and Alex in the group of newbies.
After getting them out of the ropes, Ava was so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn't notice Bear's lips on hers. When she did, though, she kissed him back.
"Pipsqeak!" Ava yelled, transforming into a large bird in order to swoop down to save Pipsqeak, who was falling at an alarming rate.
And as Ava saw Skyla's neck snap, she felt dread coursing through her veins.
"Medora to Ava..." Bear said, drawing out the a. "Hmm?" Ava said, coming back to reality after going back through her old memories.
"I asked you what you wanted to do. Dix is off doing something for Fletcher," Ava glared at Bear. "I'm supposed to be in SAS too, but since my uterus is currently having a meltdown, I can't really do much of anything." Ava said, grabbing another chocolate bar from her stash of candy Alex had brought back from Freya. Biting into a Hershey bar, she clutched her stomach.
"Time for another visit to Fletcher?" Bear said, tilting his head. Ava nodded. Limping slightly, Ava balenced herself on Bear's shoulder for the trip to the Med Ward. "I am so glad tomorrow is the last day of my period," Ava groaned. "Maybe you can get Alex to give you some Layendra when she goes to Meya next," Bear said.
"Hey Fletch, hey Dix," Ava said when she walked into the med ward. "What do you need, Ava?" Fletcher said, even though he was already grabbing pain medication. "Period," Ava said, before giving DC a hug.
After taking a large dose of pain killers, Ava could function normally again. "Let's just head to bed," Bear said, after much deliberation on both of their parts. "Sounds great."
Ava woke up to find herself being shaken awake by her roommate, Coraline. "'M up. Wha-" Before she could finish her sentence, Coraline spoke. "Come on, you'll be late for food," Ava shot up, instantly regretting it because of the shooting pain now coursing through her abdomen. Coraline handed her a vial of dark blue liquid. Ava took it, and nodded her thanks.
At the Food Court, Ava was shocked to see Jordan walking besides Alex. Bear seemed to have been struck speechless, Ava herself was tearing up, and DC had latched herself onto Jordan.
Ok, so, I've only listened to the books. If I'm getting the names wrong, go ahead and correct me.
