Name: Athena Sinclair Age: 36 Community Job: Radio Operator Previous Job: Podcaster Reside in: Little camper by the Junkyard How long have they lived in Redwood?: 16 months Family: Older brother, Apollo Status: Single Faceclaim: Elizabeth Olsen
Athena grew up moving around a lot. Her father was in the US Army so her and her older brother, Apollo, were forced to jump from school to school. It made making friends incredibly hard, although she got used to being the “new kid” at every school. Still, she felt like she couldn’t really fit in. Her brother became her best friend and the two spent most of their days as kids playing video games, watching movies and reading comic books. By the age of twelve, Athena had built her own gaming computer so her and Apollo could play the news games with the best frame rates. It might have been weird for a girl so young to be such a gaming nerd but she didn’t care. It was fun and she loved it. It also helped for her to escape from reality when a couple years later, her father was killed in action overseas. Unable to face the fact that her father was never coming home, she delved further into her computer and video games. Better to live in an augmented reality than deal with her father’s death.
Eventually her mother put her into counseling. Athena rarely left her room except when her brother forced her to go to school. Her therapist suggested that she start keeping a diary so Athena started recording her own thoughts onto a private blog. The use of tech was more comfortable than pen and paper. Maybe surprising to her, she found herself opening up a bit more and recording her talking about video games and comics. Thus was the beginnings of her up and coming podcast, Delving In Nerd Style. She would talk about video games she played, new games coming out, discussing upcoming tech, comic and movies reviews - everything a nerd could ever want. When she wasn’t podcasting she was streaming her playing various games on Twitch. From that point on, her career took off.
Her podcast soon became a hit with millions of streams and downloads. She even won a Listener’s Choice award two years in a row. She got a studio and a whole crew to help her take off and her name was spread across the podcasting world. It was weird to be considered famous. In fact, she felt awkward when she went on tours and met people. But behind the soundboard? She was a rockstar. She would have stayed there, if she could. But fate had other plans. Athena was recording one of her podcasts when one of her crew members came in infected and started chowing down on other members of her team. She escaped out the back and ran home to her brother. The two hunkered down in her brother’s home for a few months as everything collapsed but they couldn’t stick around. Apollo knew of a place further south so they headed that direction until they arrived in Redwood.
For the past sixteen months they’ve settled there. Athena used her podcasting skills and computer expertise to help man the radio and fix any of the equipment that was lying around. She still feels weird when she has to talk to people in town and is definitely more comfortable on the radio. She’s glad that her skills are being put to good work and that she can be at least somewhat useful in helping the town survive.
Headcanons:
When she gets nervous, she tends to talk a lot. She even speaks a bit fast, although she’s trying to get more comfortable talking with people face to face.
She likes to scavenge around the junkyard and find broken junk to try and fix. She likes taking things apart and putting them back together.
Athena is slightly OCD. Everything in her camper has its place and she doesn’t like when things are out of order.

anyone else realize they were genderqueer like 10 years ago and completely forget everything about that experience?
the earliest memory i have of acknowledging that my gender was Not Cis is like, saying my pronouns were she/they at GSA in 10th grade. i know i went to GSA meetings in 9th grade, learned a lot of stuff on there and on tumblr as a young teen, but i'm pretty sure knew i was nonbinary by the time i changed schools for 10th grade
its like a gradient; i was a girl, then there's a smudge, and then i was other™
i VERY clearly remember my realization that i was a lesbian, being in quarantine in 2020 and downloading tiktok and learning about the master-doc and comphet and how a lot of lesbians do actually struggle a lot with the fact that they don't like men
i remember the way certain memories very quickly began to make so much sense. i suddenly had context for memories of childhood diary entries where i planned out who i should have a crush on, or the way i had been so anxious I couldn't leave my dorm for a day and a half when a guy friend of mine had asked me out and i'd said yes, or how i'd gone from thinking i was monogamous to "realizing" i was polyamorous while dating my last boyfriend because I didn't want to be with a man forever and stop getting to love girls.
but I don't remember anything about learning I was trans.
idk how to feel about that

i’m not quite sure what this app is, though after watching over 3 hours of a crime documentary of which a girl used this app to as a diary, i feel deeply inspired by her and decided to download the app not even ten minutes after finishing watching the show. i do every i possibly can to make an account which no one will ever find out it’s me. my main concerns being school kids could find these accounts and i’ll be filled with embarrassment, and my mother finding out. my mother wouldn’t be angry, yet it could be an app she thinks is inappropriate for my age as she thinks all things are. yet i don’t think that this could be inappropriate compared to other apps. i use other apps such as tiktok and instagram which i believe are far more worse then this. those are the apps where she had little to no hesitation letting me use. people always believe that it’s the internet that causes your young children to find out about things they shouldn’t know yet at an early age. that’s what my mom believes, yet the real problem is everything. i didn’t learn about things from the internet, i learned about it from the immature kids from my elementary school, and many people believe it’s just boys. it’s mainly young immature boys yet girls are just as bad, young girls try to fit in as a boy to get their attention. it’s the men my father grew up with coming over and they all have fun while me and my sister are in our room overhearing the inappropriate things they say even as grown adults. it’s not only the internet, it’s just the world in general. it’s something we’ll all eventually know and some people find out about earlier than others, yet we all will eventually.

Chapter 2: The Crush
John meets Olivia - An Olivia's Prague Adventures Subseries
At the young age of 11, Olivia's mother, noting the girl's interest in learning English, decided to enroll her in an English summer camp. The only problem was that of course, her parents couldn't jus t do like all normal families and send her on an exchange to the UK or to Ireland. Of course they needed to crush her innocent and girly dreams of meeting some handsome boy who would secretly be a member of the Royal family or part of a famous boy band just trying to blend in and spending the last mundane summer of their lives, and who would desperately fall in love with her the moment they would meet. So instead of sending to an overly expensive stay with classes everyday, they signed her up for a cheap, chaotic camp in southern Czech Republic.
Her first year there had been somewhat traumatic. Kids her age did not have a great English, and she could hardly communicate with her teammates. Olivia spent her free time, while everybody else socialised, flirted (she was astonished to see how... precocious Czech teens were) and had fun, reading the only book she had brought and listening to music on her pink iPod. She read the novel 3 times in those 12 days.
As a result, it was quite a surprise when, two years later, she told her parents she wanted to go back, only with two Spanish friends this time. And everything was different then. The kids, very cold at first, became all super friendly and welcoming; their English had seriously improved, to the point where they were now way better than most Spanish children. Everything had changed and, suddenly, a 13-year-old Olivia had forgotten about her desired summertime love story with her British lover-boy.
In the summer camp, they were divided into different age groups, between 6 and 17. Olivia and one of her friends were put in group 6. Two levels above them, the oldest group of teenagers, the personification of everything they all wanted to become. There were the tall, strong and athletic guys; the sensual, too-mature-for-children’s-games girls, and, most importantly, him: the alternative boy with a George Harrison meets Alex Turner vibe, always carrying a black guitar on his back, even when they went on the exhausting, hours-long walks under the sun.
His name was John, and he always had a dreamy, out-of-this-world look in his green eyes. He was too cool to pretend to be cool, too cool to spend the evenings with the sporty guys, always hanging out with one of the group coordinators — *her* goup coordinator, Christina. But their interactions were not those of a teenage kid desperately trying to get the attention of a young, but nevertheless adult, woman. They were apparently friends, almost siblings, as she later found out, and had known each other since they were very young. All Olivia longed for was becoming as interesting to him as Christina was.
On the very rare occasions when he paid any attention to her during the four years that he kept going back to the camp (the last two no longer as a camper but as part of the staff), they would engage in conversations about music or about their dreams or about their lives. Every time she felt her stomach fall to her feet. She treasured these moments and fantasized about them every night before she fell asleep, even months after having left the peaceful green valley with the wooden cabins, as she waited for the next summer to arrive, back at her own home, at her own school, surrounded by uninteresting, immature boys of her same age.
It was the kind of crush that keeps you daydreaming, writing his name on your wrist, on your mirror, on your diary, everywhere. Your initials together. The kind of crush you would download facebook for, just to stare at his few pictures. The kind of crush for whom you started to listen a 1970s hard rock band. The kind of crush that makes you fantasise about sex way before you even know how it is really supposed to work.
He was the kind of crush you wouldn’t have fully overcome well into college, about whom you would confide with your friends after a sleepover of drinking and talking about boys and boyfriends and situationships. He was the kind of crush you would sometimes, not without guilt, think about when your boyfriend was giving you mixed signals and you sought refuge in daydreaming about how your life would have been like if somehow something had happened between you.
He was, ultimately, the kind of crush that would make you blush just from popping on your screen 7 years later, as you took a tram to the city centre.
