Question:

What is it about Warlock, that doesn’t seem to work very well in the modern era?

It seems like after New Mutants/Inferno…the character just kind of fell apart…?

Is it because it’s a character you NEED a certain writer to get right? Did writers just not know what to do with him? Is it because he lost Doug (his human connection) for a period of time and became less relatable??

I just think it’s weird that characters like Doop, No-Girl, Martha, Glob, and others have consistently been able to maintain a pretty solid hold in X-books…but I feel like Warlock just fell out of favor without Doug…

I do think it’s interesting how weirder character concepts don’t seem to have a good shelf life however…

Almost ALL of Gen X…Gold Balls…Bird Boy and Gossamer…Marrow and Maggott…Fallen Angels…Rockslide…

The more unique- the less likely they’ll last ☹️

I saw your post about douglock taking communion and I would like to add the key detail that warlock “eats” by infecting organic material with a virus (ultimately it’s a robotic aids allegory) and absorbing it/their life force. The infection does not need to be fatal, the infectee can also be assimilated to the technarchy (the alien hivemind race Warlock belongs to but doesn’t conform to).

Do non traditional methods of ingestion like this impact communion eligibility?

I’m also curious about the eligibility of clones and human souls transported into non human receptacles. If my soul gets put into a cat or a vase or a robot (assuming the later two can consume food) can I take communion?

For Douglock, the same would apply for Eddie and the Symbiote: only Eddie would be able to partake but not the symbiote on behalf of Eddie. Having an infection does not prevent someone from partaking in communion.

Regarding souls inside of other receptacles, a person is someone whose body and soul are together. If you separate a soul from their body, that person is dead. A dead person can’t receive communion.

I’m going to have to get back to you on non-traditional methods. I have assumptions but I don’t want to be loud and wrong.

Confession time! I don't know anything about them. Despite being a self-described Claremont girlie, I never read New Mutants and I went combing through Google images to find an issue I could study LOL

The most I can say is that Warlock has THE coolest comic character design ever and Doug is. Idk he's just a normal dude. But normal guy/weird friend he is intrinsically linked to is always a neat thing. I'd probably love them if I just sat down and read some issues!! (Hint, Anise, this is where you drop your reading recommendations!)
