Hold him still,” his father barked, digging his knee in deeper.
The breath was sucked from his chest, and his ribs groaned in agony. But there was nothing Dorian could do to stop it.
He wrenched his arm from one of the guards—wrenched it free and reached, bellowing.
He had just touched Sorscha’s limp hand when cool stone gripped his throat, there was a faint click and hiss, and the darkness swept in to tear him apart.”

QUEEN OF SHADOWS SPOILERS
This scene is where I loose any sense of sanity
Quietly, Aedion said, “Dorian.”
“Tell me what happened in the throne room, Dorian,” … The prince blinked slowly. “Nothing happened.”
“Sorscha,” Aedion breathed, his lungs aching. “Sorscha—your woman, the healer. I was standing beside you when they cut off her head. I heard you screaming as you dove for her body.”
“Where did they bury her, Dorian? What did they do with her body, the body of the woman you loved?” … “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” it said again.
“Sorscha,” Aedion panted, his breathing uneven. “Her name was Sorscha, and she loved you— and they killed her. The man who put that collar around your neck killed her.”

Just started part 2 of Heir of Fire, these are some thoughts:
- Rowan is endgame isn’t he, bc Maas always gives them that hate-to-love progression we’re all thirsty for
- that’s fair, he has a tragic backstory, cool tattoos, scars, and green eyes so he’s in fact perfect
- Aedion my love, my poor baby
- Dorian, make better decisions buddy
- SORSCHA IS A BAD DECISION
- SHES GONNA GET HURT
- AND I LIKE HER
- Luca = baby boy
- Emrys x Malakai fae husbands 2k23
- Chaol u are forgiven and i am enthralled by ur guilt-ridden, morally-conflicted, hopeless, dumb soul
- Celaena/Aelin still out here bein badass
- clinically depressed badass
- hey sister, me too, still badass
- NEHEMIAH I WILL LOVE U UNTIL THE END OF ETERNITY WHY DID U DO THIS TO US
- Manon is my wife, i love her, i would tell her so as she ripped my throat our w her snazzy iron teeth and sexy bloodlust
- Abraxos my love, i will protecc

Antis have this “explanation “ that elriel won’t happen because lucien and gwyn will end alone and sjm likes happy endings. First that’s a kindergarten level reason. Second lucien could end with vassa and third What part of the books hints that gwyn is ready for romance? I understand I like gwyn and I want her to be happy and I will love for her to find love one day but her arc was not about that on acosf. The only valkyrie other than nesta that was hinted to have a romantic interest was emerie because she blush when she saw mor. Gwyn went back to the library I don’t think love is her priority right now. I totally believe we will see more of her in future books but that’s it.
At the end of the day antis could be right only sjm knows but Sjm would have to write a really good explanation of all those eriel hints.
Yes, firstly, it's an extremely juvenile reasoning 'everyone has to end up with a love interest', but also, it's not true and SJM is often very ruthless with side characters actually.
(LOTS OF TOG AND CC SPOILERS BELOW)
A couple of other things:
Main characters don't end up with secondary characters. It's determined pretty early one who is going to be one of the mains, and then 'mains-mains' and it's always like that.
There are 6 main characters in ACOTAR: 3 sisters and 3 bat boys. It's about them.
Lucien is always a supporting character, from day one, and he will end up with a secondary character such as Vassa and not an Archeron sister. Same with Elain--she is not going to end up with someone like Jurian, who is present, but is a secondary character.
Same happened with Aelin, for example. Rowan was set up as a main early on, once he was introduced. He wasn't a friend of a friend, or whatever. But, Fenrys WAS a friend of a friend (namely a friend of Rowan's) and that's why, despite everything, and arguably, you could say that Fenrys and Aelin were incredibly close and went through hell together, she still ended up with Rowan, and not Fenrys.
And guess what--Fenrys, despite his importance, fan popularity and beauty, in fact, did end up without a LI.
I think another good example is Asterin--if we compare Asterin to Gwyn, Asterin was also a warrior, a friend to a major character (Manon, one of the mains), has a horrible backstory and in the end, she was killed.
Sorscha, another secondary character was killed as well. I mean, we can go on and on, secondary characters (even very beloved ones) get killed off frequently--Gavriel, Danika, Connor, and even in relationships such as Dorian x Manon, and Lorcan x Elide, there is an element of sadness, since we know that Manon is immortal and Dorian isn't, and Lorcan would become mortal for Elide.
I think that there are perfectly 'sacrificable' characters in ACOTAR, and we are long overdue for some deaths. I feel that some would include:
Helion
Eris
Gwyn
LOA
Mor or Amren
Tarquin
Varian
Tamlin
Clotho
Jurian
I think that Lucien is PROBABLY safe, because he has a story attached to him.
Gwyn doesn't really have a story, other than maybe being a LS and being a Valkyrie, but that doesn't mean she is safe.
SJM killed off the Suriel and the Bone Carver, and we have very few truly secondary characters left, so I wouldn't get too confident.
I think the only ones truly safe are the Bat Boys and the Archeron Girls.

Gwyn with either Fenrys or Dorian is something I’d like to see. I actually think it would be cute. Gwyn & Fenrys were twins and Gwyn & Dorian both like to read. I could see Lucien being friends with Dorian. I like Azriel, but at the same time it would be nice to see someone dog walk him. Maybe Rowan? 😂
Yeah I think Gwyn would work well with either one. Like I said in another, ask her and Dorian give me Sorscha and Dorian vibes. Sjm said Dorian and Lucien would be besties (which is funny being that people, myself included like the idea of Elain x Chaol, and Chaol is his bestie). Hmmmm idk about Rowan but Lorcan...the hate sex would be insane.

Sooo which ships do you think will be endgame in tog? <3
I’ve fallen a bit behind with the scheduled reading!
I’m nearly done with Heir of Fire (currently paused on ch 55) and I already can’t expect anything other than Aelin x Rowan. I think Dorian is the kind of guy who might blaze through two or three love interests, and I, personally, would love to pair him with Chaol, but idk if SJM is into the dynamic of friends to lovers… he’s good with Sorscha but she’s not a high born woman (and his family is kinda hard on him about that!) I expect him to end up with an unnamed character, who is high born, and Chaol to end up with Sorscha, since he seems to thrive on being involved in Dorian’s love interests
Manon is going to stay single and eligible for all the thirsty bisexuals like me to fantasize about ~
Aedion x Ren (idk, why not, he seems scrappy and ready for love)
Am I forgetting anyone?

Saying it again-- we could have had Nehemia x Dorian.
Like Sorschas character just meh. Feels forced and convenient. Nehemia secretly alive ro keep an eye on Dorian? Heck yes. Helping him secretly to keep his magic in line, learn things he needs to help him, heal him the political intrigue. The sass. The enemies to friends to maybe something more?
Plus, Nehemia lives. Thats all I want yall.

Since I've finished my reread of Throne of Glass here are some of my random thoughts after reading the series:
While I think The Assassin's Blade does provide some important background into Celaena/Aelin's story, overall I just don't really like it. I think it lacks some of the elements that I enjoy reading in a book and found it kind of boring. Also while Sam's death is kind of sad, I don't think his relationship with Celaena is all the well developed compared to her later relationships.
I personally love how Throne of Glass starts as pretty contained story with the competition for king's champion and grows to such an epic story by Kingdom of Ash that spans continents and whose cast of character grows as well.
I don't really like Nehemia's character and I think she kind of treated Celaena/Aelin poorly. I hated that she called her a coward and pretty much implied that she was selfish. (yes I understand that her death was meant to spur Celaena/Aelin into action but I don't see how it was wrong for Celaena to desire freedom after everything she went through)
Chaol isn't my favorite character but I think my the end of the series that he's shown great growth and doesn't deserve as much hate as he gets.
I love Yrene and she definitely is the best part of Chaol.
How did Elide x Lorcan become my favorite ship of the series? Did I enjoy them the first time around because I can't remember? But these two have my whole heart and soul.
I think Aedion has a horrible temper and that Lysandra should not have forgiven him so easily. He made me so mad especially in Kingdom of Ash and I think its tragic that because of his anger, he never gave Gavriel a chance.
I truly believe that Gavriel was a good male and would have been a good father to Aedion if given the chance and its so sad that he will never get the chance.
I still love Dorian and he is definitely my favorite character of the series. I love how he always accepted Aelin for who she is and I think he has a really big heart. I love the journey his character goes through.
I have to admit that when Manon is first introduced, I don't really like her character but she definitely grows on me by the end of the series.
I have to confess that I just don't think that Dorian/Manon are endgame. I think that they have great sexual chemistry but Dorian is definitely a romantic and I don't know if Manon is capable of loving him in the way that he would love her. I also think he was definitely still grieving Sorscha and Manon was a welcome distraction for him.
I've come to the conclusion that I need a Dorian book to either convince me that him and Manon are endgame or give me some other epic love interest that he deserves, please.
I gained a whole new appreciation for Aelin after my reread. This girl has been through so much and I hope her future with Rowan is filled with happiness and lots of children because it is definitely canon that they want a big family.
I love Fenrys and wish we got more of him.
I just really enjoyed my reread of this series and I would love to read some sort of extended epilogue to read what the characters are up to now.

Throne of Glass SERIES thoughts
Idk guys I struggle to like the relationship between Manon and Dorian. I just can't? I don't vibe with their sexy scenes, it feels weird to me. It's probably bc I honestly struggle to see having sex with someone you don't have romantic feelings for or a strong emotional connection (what up demisexuals). And i know it's a mutual arrangement, they're both getting something out of it.
I guess on one hand when first introduced to Manon I was hoping she wouldn't have any sexual desire? Kinda hoped for her to be ace I guess and then OOP she's not. I still really like Manon!! Or idk I guess after Sorscha Dorian is ???? And I know moving past people is a thing and what happened with Sorscha is forever embedded in his brain.
Idk if I'm making sense, I've been up for like 18 hours.
Basically I don't vibe with Manon x Dorian

i am sick and tired of people saying dorian doesn't love manon and is only "attracted" to her or it was "just sex" for dorian. or dorian was "on a phase" with Manon. and that sorscha was the one for dorian
let me remind you people
He usually trued not to think about Celaena, Aelin- whoever she was. Tried not to think about Chaol and his lying, or Aedion and his treason. He wanted nothing to do with them, not now that Sorscha was with him.
Dorian started with Sorscha with Celaena still in his heart too. Same way Dorian started with Manon with Sorscha in his conscience.
She looked at him the way he'd once caught Celaena looking at Chaol.
But did he look at her like that? Dorian wanted to SAVE her because he knew the COST AND DANGER it was to be with him.
If he left to be with her, [...] No, Dorian could not have the luxury of choosing.
He never saw Sorscha as his queen even if Chaol visualized so. He endured everything to give Sorscha a fighting chance in the future WITHOUT HIM.
That he had not forgotten her. So Dorian let his father rage. [...] For Sorscha, for the promise of keeping her safe, of someday, perhaps, not having to hide what and who he was, he kept on his well-worn mask [...] When Celaena got back [...] Then they would set about changing the world together.
He never saw himself being with her. He just wanted her safe the same way Chaol wanted Celaena safe.
Oh, Chaol. He understood completely now [...] "Please," [...] "Please..." // "Together. We'll face this together." And it was selfish and horrible of him, but he put up no further argument.
And when he begged her to go, it was when the deaths of thousands in the Calculla rebellion hung over him. He wanted her to stay for himself. We all know how the concept of love Maas has, it's the selfless type of love i'll-suffer-for-you instead type of love.
"Because she died. And even before she did, this world saw to it that she suffered, and was afraid, and alone. And even though no one will remember who she was, I do. I will never forget the color of her eyes, or the way she smiled. And I will never forgive them for taking it away."
The most prominent words from Sorscha that Dorian recalled was "I was not supposed to love you." in KoA. Dorian blamed himself in Sorscha's death and how weak and powerless he was. How he had to beg for her safety. Sorscha was the turning point for Dorian to change himself and take full responsibility as king (even while they were still together, he was more kingly than ever before, it just went full circle when she died)
Did he love her? He'd always been generous with his lovers. [...] but this time he genuinely wanted to give her things.
When Sorscha confessed her love for Dorian, he begged the king for her safety. Yes, he did love her. It's true. Dorian will always have a part of Sorscha in his identity.
But Manon, Manon who would be his wife, his queen. She was already his equal, his match, his mirror in so many ways.
I'm not married because I can't stomach the idea of marrying a woman inferior to me in mind and spirit. It would mean the death of my soul.
Yes, it was horrible that Maas wrote Sorscha just to kill her. In the end, Manon was his soulmate. And they both showed it (beyond the mind-blowing sex) in how they resented the feelings they had for each other in the midst of the war. And how Dorian neglected the proposal because he KNEW that Manon cannot be shackled to him just because of the war. They both knew and understood each other. In true Maas fashion in TOG, Sorscha led Dorian to Manon. And that open-ended ending in KoA where they will most likely heal together? wHERE IS THE MANORIAN BOOK MAAS WHERE?!
p.s.
Tell me your greatest wish. Tell me. Tell me, and I'll make it happen.
vs
"And there is only one witch who will be my queen."
"What is it that you want? // You, he almost said. All of you.
