i am for sure approaching the finale of the first level in p5t, where the only spoiler i know about will happen, presumably. i've decided i'm going with ryuji. i fucking love yusuke with all my heart and soul, and i'm sure his version of whatever this plays out as is great, but...
well, pegoryu was my first p5 ship, and remains one of my faves. ryuji is special to me. if i can't have akechi for this then ryuji is equally good (but in a very different way).
...admittedly i also have no idea where or when or how the akechi & yoshizawa dlc comes into play. i bought it before i even started the game. i assume they're not just inserted into the main story or anything, but i kind of assumed they'd be available as just team units. i guess that could be right still; the whole first level is about re-assembling your team, so it'd probably be weird to just give you two free guys when the structure is about building up your power and strategy. so maybe after this part...?
i could look it up of course, but i haven't gone into a persona game blind since strikers, and it's more fun that way. i'm sure i'll figure it out.

Franky (SxF), Sojiro (P5), Maruki (P5) and Zenkichi (P5) s/o catching them off guard with a surprise kiss just to playfully steal their glasses right from their faces. Many thanks ~
S/O Stealing Their Glasses
Fandom: Spy x Family // Persona 5
Character(s): Franky Franklin, Sojiro Sakura, Takuto Maruki, Zenkichi Hasegawa
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): Glasses debuff 😔
Tumblr media
Franky
He melts into the kiss when you surprise him with one. Nothing else matters to him. He's just enjoying this kiss you gave him. Hell, the kiss is so good it causes his vision to get messed up.
It isn't until you pull away and he hears your giggling that he realizes that while the kiss was really good, his blurry vision is due to the fact that his glasses are missing.
A grin crosses Franky's face as he raises his hands in a tickling position. You better give him those glasses back, S/O or he's going to tickle you! It ends up being a playful chase afterwards with Franky stumbling quite a bit due to his blurry vision. But as long as you promise to kiss his bruises, then he'll gladly deal with it.
Bonus: Ngl, part of me wanted to write Franky as having fake glasses and actually having really good vision (he uses fake glasses to seem cuter). So, the idea of S/O thinking they one upped Franky then learning that his glasses don't do shit is honestly really funny.
Sojiro
Definitely wasn't expecting the sudden kiss you pull him into. Gets flustered because of it and can barely process the fact you're kissing him, let alone that his glasses got stolen.
Jokes on you S/O, he's dealt with Futaba stealing his glasses before. Sojiro has a second pair. And if that doesn't work, he has prescription sunglasses. But he'll let you have your moment of thinking you one upped him.
Will cheekily tell you that you'll have to clean up the cafe since he can't see now. He'll see how much you're laughing as he gives you the list of chores you can do now that he can't.
Maruki
There's a muffled "Mmph?!" or something like that as you suddenly pull him into a kiss. His face is red as you kiss him before he relaxes into it and even gives a smile as he closes his eyes to kiss you back.
Except when his eyes open, his vision is blurry, and he realizes what you did. He lets out a laugh as he tells you, "Yeah, you got me, good job, S/O."
Might pout a bit if you don't give his glasses back. He'll let you have some fun with teasing him and whatnot, but please give him his vision back, S/O. He cannot function without those glasses.
Zenkichi
Like Maruki, he lets out a noise of surprise as you suddenly kiss him. His face is going red, especially when he hears the giggling from Akane. He pulls away to ask what that was about, but stops as you snatch his glasses away.
Let's out a "Hey!" as he tries to grab them back only for you to pass them off to Akane. Oh you two are definitely in for it when he gets his glasses back.
Zenkichi also has multiple pairs of glasses due to breaking some when he's on duty. So once he gets to his second pair (and hopefully he doesn't break his leg from tripping) then he's going to arrest both of you (not literally, of course, but he makes the threat).

So okay lemme explain where the fuck this step siblings au came from
In that medieval magic one, Sayuri, Wakaba, and Mama Niijima were all friends and raised their kids together until they were framed and shit, and. Somehow now I have a whole comfort au
So it would be like, they were all friends before they had kids. I'm naming Makoto's mom Aichi for now, I'll probably end up changing it?? Idk. She's an EMT, her husband, a cop, dies and she moves in with her two friends (living together cause they're already in Gay) to help with her two daughters while she grieves
And she falls for Sayuri and Wakaba too
At this time, Sae is 16, Makoto 6, Yusuke 5, and Futaba 4. Makoto is so excited to be a big sister, and holds her little siblings' hands while walking to school. Like. She warms up to this new situation real fast
Sae and Makoto share one room at first, then when Sae moves out at 19, Makoto and Yusuke share. Futaba and Yusuke were sharing before, and Futaba swaps out with Makoto.
Their moms are in the Master, and there's three other rooms. Originally Yusuke and Futaba were in the biggest, room A, and Makoto and Sae in the second largest, room B. Futaba takes the smallest, C, so they turn room B into a sort of play room slash games room
Eventually they'd take in an angsty 13 year old Goro, who gets the smallest room, Futaba moving into the room with the other two. It's slightly crowded, but they only sleep in there with the games room existing
That's the First Family. There's 3.
Family 2! The Takamaki's leave Ann in the care of single mother Tsukimi Sakamoto, and send her cheques to help pay for the two kids she's raising. I'm a sucker for Ann and Ryuji sibling vibes, so from age 3 they're raised together
They share a room until they're in high school, when they move into a bigger apartment that Tsukimi saved up for to hopefully give them both more chances for success. She works as a sous chef at a mid tier ramen place, and both of her kids go for discounted bowls after school once a week
Onto family 3
So, Sojiro is in this! He's not close to Wakaba, they'll become friends again when their kids meet in high school, but he's a registered foster. He goes through a few short placements, then a child involved in a neglect case enters his care
Haru is 8 when he gets her, and lets just say it's a foster fail, that's her dad now. He takes her to visit her mom's grave every month, keeps her away from media and such because that cause was all over the news, and. They're a good fit
Then, he gets his second foster fail, another neglect kid, Akira at age 12. The kids each have their own small rooms, it's not a big house they have, and just. Sojiro never thought he'd be dad material, and now he's stuck in his armchair during a movie night, his son and daughter sleeping against each of his side's,
Sumire and Kasumi lose their parents in a car crash and live with Zenkichi so they'd move to Tokyo before they start high school, and that's how they're in there. Also, Sophia?? Human?? Akane has three big sisters now she's never lonely
Just. Warm au. Gonna tag it as P5 step siblings au so. Yeah. Don't know if I'll do actual content for it but thought I'd share it

Info Dump. Now *holds gun*
Okay, okay! ;; Under a cut! ...but first, some history. (Also under the cut!)
Zenkichi's big turn and the first time I saw the August 14th scene was two days before my birthday, March 20. My friends were telling me that he was gonna be the one I would yell about ridiculously, and I snorted it off. How could anyone think that the dorky cop was gonna be the one I liked the most? I liked the single dad sad cops that would absolutely tear down the country for their kids. … …and then I saw the entire scene with Zenkichi after Sapporo, and I was absolutely thrown headfirst into 'wait, what in the fuck is this?' Needless to say, I had to stop after the save point because I was crying. A lot. Goofy old dork is actually- really fucking messy on the inside? Oh no. Oh NO, I suddenly latched on like a fool.
It sort of became a big spiral from there about him, and I began to come up with a ridiculous degree of sad with him that the game never explained because- it's a month long experience. And not enough time to really dive into the meat of the whole "EXCUSE ME, THE NEW DAD WE PICKED UP IS ACTUALLY FULL OF SELF-LOATHING AND BULLSHIT" sort of idea. (And about how Joker/Akiren was somehow okay with working with a fucking cop after. Y'know. All of P5/R? MUH?)
As per this introduction of Zenkichi and in my time crying about him for the last three years, I have thus come up with the following... headcanons and sobbing ideas.
🅱️LEASE NOTE A LOT OF THIS IS FIXED IN MY SILLY ALTERNATE UNIVERSE FOR THINGS, BUT IF IT SOUNDS NEAT, IT CAN BE APPLIED IN OTHER CONTEXTS.
🌸-🐺-🌸-🐺-🌸
Zenkichi and Valjean have had a connection for the last some twenty plus years. It started as that little voice in his head that would tell him to push the envelope, chase the bad guys, indulge in his anger. Zenkichi would often rebuff these advances, and over time, the voice got louder and angrier at how he wouldn't speak up a lot for himself because of 'how he just sits like an obedient dog and takes it.' It's only in Akane's jail that he finally breaks free of his chains and begins to really make a man out of himself.
Zenkichi does have some mental illnesses, mostly due to childhood trauma involving emotional abuse from his father. Emotions were pretty much a way to get his dad to yell at him about how weak he looked; being sad or angry or even melancholic were good ways to get the 'boys don't cry' talk of sorts often, and he bottled his emotions at a very early age. (And he still does many times, mainly because he doesn't want the kids to see him breaking down. The Thieves often help him with this, as does Maruki to an extent.)
There's a saying that your anger can hurt you more than it can hurt others, and it actively applies to Wolf's Fury mechanic in the Metaverse. As it stands today (04/03/2024), the kids vaguely know of his power and how it can fuck him up in the Metaverse. What the kids don't know, however, is that his wounds carry into the real world and give him many scars. At first, he tries to chalk them up to wounds he got when he was on the force for years, but it eventually will catch up to him: when the Thieves see the damage it does to him, they get… very concerned, to say the least. And they will hound him to get scar cream for some of the worse ones.
Zenkichi has smoked for a few years, but he did stop before he met the Phantom Thieves; he can't do the mile for shit, but he can jog fairly okay. His drinking habits aren't that great, though, to wear he can actually have enough to pass out. ...he's getting better though. Trying to get better. (He can get to be too lazy to get up and get one.)
Each time Enduring Soul activates for Zenkichi, it fucks him up pretty badly. I know the game mechanics say he survives with one HP and bounces back, but I've taken it a step further to say that yeah. He dies. He does die, and he comes back with renewed fervor. As the only known playable character that isn't a protagonist to have this ability, I have once more taken it to a higher degree of fuckery and made it worse.
Every one of the Phantom Thieves's experience with a shitty dad makes him want to go and punch a bastard, but they convince him not to do so... so he won't go to jail. However, he doesn't listen and visits many of them. And while he doesn't get physical, he instills the fear of Valjean into every one of them.
To help deal with his anger issues he's unlocked since his awakening, he's since remembered his hand-to-hand combat training from being on the force; with Valjean's (genuine) gentle nudges and coaxing, he finds himself slowly going back into combative sports. He finds it liberating when he can go wild in private away from the kids, knowing that many of them have some kind of trauma from adults being angry or violent.
THAT SAID… when the kids find out about his habit, I'd like to think that Zenkichi admits that he didn't want to tell the kids out of fear and their traumatic pasts and whatnot, but they're far more relieved he has an outlet for said rage that's healthy for him and not doing worse things. (It also comes in handy for other things- because these kids can't stay out of trouble too often, but that comes down the line much later.)
Gramps- does leave the force, but only after he and Miyako speak about it at length for a long time. He ends up becoming a private investigator with quite the name for himself that gets mumbled through the streets: the Wolf of Kyoto.
I have quite a number more but... this is getting long.

A Wolf Among Thieves part 2
Okay, Vajlean wasn't going to be useful here, so the only ones he'd have left to ask was the kids. Something he had expressly NOT wanted to do.
He'd said more than once they were naïve. He'd come to realize it wasn't that they were ignorant of how the world worked, they knew better than most. It was that they refused to accept it so long as they were alive to change it. But in the end they were still kids and they could be naïve enough to not question certain things. Like what being a Persona User could mean.
Zenkichi vividly remembered the first half of his trip into the Kyoto Jail. It was terrifying, ducking around pillars and knowing being seen would mean death. And how he moved just like in the real world. Then when Valjean awakened it changed, he was jumping onto roofs and practically teleporting behind cover like it was second nature. None of the kids had taught him how to do that, just like swinging that giant sword it came naturally.
He had been changed, remade to adapt to the Metaverse. And he had been carefully not thinking about if that followed in the real world. That more than his outlook had changed, that he was now something not quite human. Something other. And the last thing he'd wanted was this hanging over the kids. But he had to know...
Kurusu picked up immediately. "Everything okay, Wolf?" His voice in full Joker mode.
"I was just wondering something. After you awoke to Arsène did anything...weird happen to you."
The other side of the line was quiet for a moment. "I started traveling into the depth of Tokyo's collective subconscious so I could chide some peoples repressed feelings and combat other ones using my rebellious spirit as a mystical weapon. I also went directly in the minds of some of the most evil people I've ever met in order to steal a part of their soul that was making them into twisted bastards in the first place, then selling it for cash at a pawn shop so we could further fund supplies for our exploits. I escaped jail by pulling a trick with reality so the assassin posing as my teammate shot the memory of me being in my cell instead of my actual self. I have killed at least three gods, the first one by taking the offered power of everyone I'd helped and turning it into a fallen angel with a gun. The personification of Hope lives in my room and for reasons unbeknownst to me or him is trapped in the form of a cat. He can also turn into a bus. My friends and I were brought into the Metaverse for a Dance Off that Lavenza thinks I don't remember, but I totally do."
"Okay, okay. Point taken. I should have specified. I didn't mean weird events. I meant like, weird with your body."
"Is this a puberty talk? Because I can assure you I know about the birds and the bees-"
"Not that!" Thank GOD Akane wasn't home. "Look, I got into a bar fight tonight. The fight itself wasn't important, but while I was fighting I started healing, like I do in the Metaverse when I'm not in a Fury. And it's not just the injuries I got during the fight. All the little everyday cuts and bruises are gone and I am doing my best not to freak out, but I am very much freaking out." He could hear Morgana's voice in his head telling him to get it together, just like his first foray into the Metaverse. It didn't help then and it wasn't helping now.
"I haven't noticed anything like that, but none of the rest of us have regenerative abilities like yours." Kuruso said gently and despite himself Zenkichi felt himself calming down ever so slightly. "I know some people who might be able to give us answers. Igor would definitely know, but he's more of a 'you don't call him, he calls you' guy, so he might take a while to find. Lavenza I can get to, she may not know all the answers, but she should know something. We'll find you answers."
"Thank you. And sorry, for falling apart on the phone." Zenkichi said sheepishly.
"It's not a problem, you're one of us now, and we look after our own." Because no one else would was unsaid.
~
Zenkichi was having dinner with Akane when his phone buzzed. He felt a bit guilty for the quick glance he took at it, but he did work a job where people's lives could depend on his response time.
Have some answers. Den tonight.
"Work?" Akane asked with a bit of disdain. "Just an informant updating me on his progress." He assured her. "Nothing worth interrupting dinner for." Not to mention said informant and his crew would rake him over the coals if he didn't spend enough time with his daughter. Those kids...
Still the Den though. Zenkichi had mixed feelings on the place. It was perfect for their purposes. He just hated how much the location shouldn't exist.
It had apparently manifested during the Yaldaboath incident. A small corner of the metaverse that had attuned to the Phantom Thieves, almost like a one room palace (even if it was a very big room). It had vanished with the rest of the metaverse after that incident had ended, but Sophie had gotten the idea if her 'sister' Emma had managed to have so much control of the metaverse, she could manage one location.
Because it worked like a Jail, all they had to do was enter the passcode and they'd be taken there, regardless from where in Japan they were, and be returned to the same spot. It helped with him in Kyoto, most of the kids in Tokyo, and Sophie who knew where. Incredible convenient, but it gave him the heebie jeebies.
Once Akane was asleep he took out his phone. "For one so desperate for answers, you certainly fear them." His golden eyed reflection said mockingly.
Zenkichi certainly regretted his desperate attempt to talk to his persona. Not only had it not gotten him anything, but Valjean seemingly took it as an invitation to chat with him whenever he saw his reflection which was...annoying (Even if his commentary during boring meetings was hilarious). Still, Zenkichi ignored him and pulled up the custom EMMA-like interface. "Name: Thieves' Den Passcode: I am Thou."
His house dissolved around him and he found himself in the bright red room. But at the same time his heart sank. He'd expected to find Kurusu. And the leader of the Phantom Thieves was there - along with every other member.
So much for not worrying them.
"Hey Gramps," Sakamoto gave him a tiny salute. He was in his Phantom Thief attire with him mask up around his forehead. Most of them were, save Takamaki who was wearing a school uniform.
It seemed strange to him how she didn't actually like her outfit. She'd grown used to it, but didn't think it was cool, the way the others Including him felt about their attire. Had she just gotten so used to being seen as a sex object between her modeling work and Kamoshida's advances that that's how she saw herself even if she hated it.
He'd suggest therapy, but apparently the last time one of these kids tried therapy the therapist had turned himself into a god and tried to rewrite reality into his own Utopia, so that was probably out.
What even was his life?
"So answers?"
"Well, Igor continues his streak of not being there when I need him." There was no mistaking the frustration in his tone. "But Lavenza told me what she could, and we've been running some experiments."
"I could not participate in the experiments as I have no body outside the metaverse, so I helped compile the data." Sophie said brightly.
The kids had been experimenting on themselves?
"So according to Lavenza, awakening to a Persona sort of grants you a dual citizenship in the Metaverse. That's why it's easier for us to navigate after an awakening. We count as a local for all intents and purposes. Also our Personas being a part of us mean we're intrinsically connected."
"It's harder to tell for the mot part with we who have only one persona," Niijima stated. "But Akira's wildcard ability showed that what we do and how we train our bodies does effect our Personas, so it made sense for the reverse to be true."
"We also learned that being a Persona user doesn't automatically make you heal faster, though wounds healed in the metaverse would stay healed in our reality." Sakura continued. "So in an emergency we could use magic in the metaverse to heal a serious injury without the need for a hospital."
"Passive healing isn't common, but I do have some Persona's with a Regenerate ability. When I equipped them, I noticed the fast healing you mentioned did seem to effect me. So it's likely that you do have a variant for ValJean's ability and can heal yourself through fighting. You also probably have the reverse, but I'd prefer you didn't use it as we don't have access to healing magics outside the cognitive world."
"Don't worry, I have no plans to test out if I can tear myself apart in the real world." Because at this point he was honestly just going to assume he could and avoid it.
"Other than emotionally" He reflection snarked back.
You know what? "Also do you guys know how to keep you persona from snarking at you? ValJean's gotten kind of mouthy."
He got several blank looks in return.
"ValJean talks to you? Regularly?" Okumura ventured.
"Is that...? I'm guessing from your looks that's not normal?"
"My Persona only spoke to me when it first awakened." Takamaki looked around, as if confirming this with everyone else.
"The same with mine." Kitagawa nodded.
"Johana was a bit..." Niijima winced . "'I see you've found you're justice, pray do not loose sight of it again.'" She quoted. "I felt like I'd disappointed my mom. I have a hard time imagining just being able to chat with her."
"For real?" Sakamoto looked surprised. "Cap was cool. Told be since my name was already mud, I might as well let loose and wreck havoc. I'd love to have the chance to actually talk with him."
"Zenkichi, under what circumstance did ValJean start talking to you?" Morgana inquired thoughtfully.
"I wanted to ask him about the healing thing. But since it turns out Personas only know what the human they come from knows, he had zilch. And then he never shut up." Zenkichi rolled his eyes.
"Really?" Kurusu of all people looked surprised. "I always got the impression Arséne knew a lot he wasn't telling me. Maybe it's another wildcard thing?"
Sakamoto snorted. "Dude I think it's a you thing. When you're on you give this aura like you have all the answers and hold all the cards. And Arséne's a part of you so...yeah. I think you just played yourself, man."
While the rest of the Phantom Thieves laughed at the bewildered look on their leader, Morgana looked thoughtful. "It makes a certain amount of sense." Morgana allowed, tail twitching. "Personas are part of one's cognition and as such can be shaped by our perceptions. None of us had a persona talk to us outside an awakening, so we assumed just talking to a persona wasn't a thing that could happen. After all, we had accepted that part of us into ourselves. Zenkichi, you to at least some degree saw ValJean as a separate entity, at least enough to assume he'd know something you didn't. You expected him to be able to respond and because of that he was."
"Of course once he did respond that was it. Talking to him became part of your cognition of him. No putting that genie back in the bottle."
"Great." Zenkichi glared at his golden eyes reflection.
"It is not my fault you are ever the agent of your own undoing." ValJean grinned back.
"Having to listen to you forever is a hell of a price tag for admission into the Phantom Thieves." Zenkichi groused.
"Don't be silly, Valjean's not why you got in." Sakura snorted.
"He isn't?" Zenkichi was at least slightly satisfied to see his persona just as poleaxed. "I asked if it was that simple and you said yes."
"Oh, is that what you meant? Then the answer is no, becoming a Phantom thief is NOT as simple as awakening a Persona." Takamaki clarified.
"Yeah Gramps, thought you knew. You were a Phantom Thief before you entered that dungeon." Sakamoto laughed.
"I was?" If anything Zenkichi was even more confused.
"Get out of there. Run." Kurusu said the words calmly, unlike how he had yelled them the night Akane had been taken. "Those words. That moment."
"Please understand, we wanted to trust you before then." Niijima apologized. "But you're not the first member of 'law enforcement' to demand a deal. And they've never intended to keep their end not even....not even Sis." She clenched her fists, remember a Christmas morning she'd thought be filled with hope instead be replaced with anger and betrayal. "The intention was always for us to end up caged, dead or both."
"So by the time you showed up to blackmail us, we knew anyone working with the authorities was absolutely not to be trusted." Okumura further explained, which really made her 'We hate cops' attitude all the more understandable.
"But that moment was a line in the sand. You could sacrifice us for your career, All you had to do was nothing and you'd be set for life. A false hero for the country to praise." Kurusu continued to explain. "But instead you sacrificed your career for us. You gave warning, ruining your career and taking our place in interrogation." He locked eyes with Zenkichi who was suddenly and forcefully reminded that Joker knew what being on the wrong side of that table was like. Knew more than the others exactly the treatment Zenkichi would expect. "In that moment you had to choose if you were with us or them. And that is when you became a Phantom Thief."
Zenkichi felt a lump in his throat. "I just did was right."
"Exactly." said Sakura. "Exactly."
ValJean laughed. "Did the children not just tell you they have little to no experience with adults doing 'what was right' by them. You have their trust and you have earned it fairly."
He'd earned it. And to be honest that felt a little better than getting his place on the team because he had a Persona.
"So you've been keeping u with your cooking, right? What did you make for Akane for dinner tonight." Okumura's words were friendly, but her eyes were sharp with challenge. Kurursu had also sat up straighter, waiting for his response.
Those damn kids. His damn kids.
His?
Okay, he could deal with this revelation later. Right now he had to defend himself in the court of cooking
~~~~
Honestly the original idea for this fic came from the P5 manga where the theives are playing cards and Joker keeps winning until one of the team accuses him of having a high-luck Persona equipped.
And if that carried over, why not other things? Like Zenkichi healing while he's fighting as long as he isn't using Fury
i think other than the number one spot, none of these are in any particular order. but yes let's begin.
Caleb Widogast (Critical Role). undisputed favorite character in any piece of media, he’s my entire world. literally a perfect narrative story, an emotional character exploration of grief and found family and time itself. profoundly sad man but also filled with so much silly sweetness that makes the sadness even MORE painful. he's a friend, he's a lover, he's a pining man, he's of the empire but not a friend to the empire. he's MY boy, he's a magic man, he's trying to be the man his parents believed he could be. i can cry (and have cried) about him for hours on end but i’m not making this list any longer. ("hi caleb... how are you doing today?" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH)
Gale Dekarios (Baldur’s Gate 3). omg another sad wizard? sorry i have a type. wyll also belongs on this list but i’m hopelessly drawn to gale so i have to pick him. mama’s boy? cat dad? big wet eyes, a little suicidal and extremely devoted? i don’t know that i’ve clutched my heart harder than when i saw his act 2 romance scene for the first time. i think it also just pulls at my heartstrings that his relationship with tav is so showing of his kindness regardless of whether or not you romance him. even platonic gale is so ;-;
Ann Takamaki (Persona 5). i fought about putting yusuke or ryuji or even zenkichi but this spot has to go to ann because she's just so. perfect. the first arc of p5 is the BEST hands down and she's literally one of the biggest reasons why. the writers end up ruining her but the way she grows even in that first arc... her confidant scene with the line "i'm just a lonely, scared girl..." BREAKS ME. she's a treasure, she's strong and kind and wants to be a light for others while not giving up on the things that make her 'girly.' and her love for ryuji as best friends is one of my favorite dynamics ever.
Artemis (Hades). i love artemis in general, i grew an attachment during my greek mythology kid phase and never let go so i'm obsessed with every iteration of her in media. but artemis in hades has my favorite visual design in the game combined with her quiet sweetness :') and her willingness to have a family bond with zagreus because she's also an outcast who's overwhelmed by her other family members. and then to be a total badass of a goddess, ugh love her.
Katagawa Jr. (Borderlands). okay this one is funny because i honestly love katagawa as an OC more than canon... like canon treated him pretty badly and if it was based on that alone then august tftbl would be in this spot. but the POTENTIAL... ohhh the potential... youngest son born into the highest echelon of one of the most powerful companies in the galaxy, but to CEO parents who see them only as property?? and puts barcodes on the back of their necks?? and katagawa jr being the desperately lonely, attention-seeking son? don't get me started on him and naoko... genuinely my OC now. i took him from canon.
Julian Devorak (The Arcana). this one always embarrasses me to talk about because it's like a romance visual novel game. so let's make it quick. but julian is unironically such a good character, i'm a sucker for the way he loves his little sister more than anything in the world. also for being a silly pirate plague doctor who wants to help people, blames himself for a past he can't even remember, and trips over his own heels being so madly in love. the outfit and eyepatch too, 10/10.
Crona Gorgon (Soul Eater). the definition of 'nonbinary baby' LMAO- but seriously, i instantly fell in love with their design when i first watched. one of the best ever, including ragnarok's design being a part of them. being so powerful but so pained, just such a sad soul and it's so interesting to watch them on screen. i love a character that seems silly and awkward and then also can turn very scary/cool. brief shoutout to stein though, i almost put him on here instead because his design and fighting style are just peak >>
Mad Maggie (Apex Legends). my first ever apex love was horizon, but idk when maggie came out i just fell in love with her personality? she's SO funny to me. i also love her and fuse's backstory, and i think her tough attitude but capability of being kinda sweet as well is cute (although i genuinely just adore her as a mean character too. let women be meaner. she's funny and hot about it). her kit is also very fun even though i'm bad with it, i love riot drilling halfway across the map when i play her. her voice is 10/10 and even her theme music is banger.
Undyne (Undertale). undertale still has one of the greatest narratives in all of gaming history and i will die happily on that hill. sorry. undyne was always my girl, her being the badass knight (that everyone assumes is some scary guy), her theme music is still one of THE best video game songs ever. her design is amazing, finding out that she's papyrus's friend and that she's in love with alphys, her backstory with asgore. all amazing character beats. and that's not even mentioning the genocide run... "for the sake of the whole world... I, UNDYNE, WILL STRIKE YOU DOWN." ugh.
Prince Canute (Vinland Saga). gah i haven't even watched season 2 yet because i'm terribly behind. BUT. oh my god, i think canute's monologue in the snow in season 1 actually fundamentally changed my brain???? and the way that i think??? like i felt something crack within me. i actually gave a talk about that exact scene in an animation class i had once. anyways i loved watching him on screen and watching him change... watching him be so sad... not to mention his design is just very very pretty. can't wait to see my best friend canute in s2 i'm sure nothing bad will happen right.
tagging: @magnuficentwo @aliensmoothie and anyone else who wants to do it if you feel like it, no obligation :) i'm bad at the tagging part of tag games sorry!
So, time for a bit more writing, although this will be a bit different.
This is more of a theory. Specifically, for Persona 5.
I will be mentioning Palaces that are late in the game, but that's why there are spoiler tags. I will also say that this is a long post, so if it's on your dashboard and you don't wanna read it, just hit J to skip to the next post.
So, here's the basic theory...
I think Sae Niijama's Palace forms far later than the others.
I'm basing this one a few things.
A. Only Akechi really noticed (or pretended to care) the difference in her behaviour B. She still seems to care about other people, especially Makoto C. The appearance of 'people' in her Palace.
So, let's go though this step by step. C will be the longest one.
So, we'll start with A. Akechi was the only one who really noticed the different in Sae's behaviour. Not even Makoto thought her sister's behaviour was much different from normal, her worries being about what Sae was doing would mean for her and the other Phantom Thieves rather than what her sister was actually doing.
Keep in mind Akechi knows about the cognitive world, and likely had some knowledge of Shido's plan, since he was one of Shido's best assets.
So it was likely part of Shido's plan to put all the pressure for catching the Phantom Thieves onto Sae, to help cultivate a Palace. It's not that simple, though. It's not like Palaces are Prisons from Scramble, you can't just take someone and make them the ruler of it, as they did with Zenkichi's daughter.
So they kept piling the pressure on Sae, making it so Sae's main thought would be 'I have to win this'... resulting in a Palace, with a gambling theme. Although the theme isn't entirely down to the plan, Makoto wasn't surprised by the appearance of the Palace, more the Palace itself. But, the appearance of it wasn't necessary, just that she had one.
Since Makoto didn't notice a significant change in her personality or demeanour that would point towards a Palace for her, I'd say it must be recent. Akechi noticed, because he was specifically looking for it.
B. She still seems to care about other people
This is more earlier, but the thing is, a Palace does not pop up overnight. While putting pressure on Sae to catch the Phantom Thieves would have helped cultivate a Palace, I doubt it would work to give someone a Palace if they wouldn't have one.
Like, the pressure was feeding a seed, but it wouldn't have worked if a seed wasn't there to begin with. And no, I'm not saying Sae is a bad person, keep in mind that Futaba had a palace. And while I won't be talking about him in this theory, because it's not that relevant since he's a special case, Maruki also wasn't a bad person.
In any case, we are shown that Sae does still care about Makoto. She snaps at her sometimes, but is not that cruel to Makoto, and certainly not abusive. She cares about Makoto, wants her to get a good education so she can succeed.
Let's look at some of the other Palace rulers, here.
Kamoshida was abusing the members of the Volleyball team. Physically, and, in the case of some of the girls, sexually. While they never outright say 'rape', I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of it as well, although I do think it would have been mentioned more outright if it was, and that Kamoshida would have confessed to it when his heart was changed. He didn't care about anyone other than himself.
Madarame used his students to profit off their art. He did a pretty good show of pretending to care for them, kept them fed, but this was all so he could profit off them. We know that when one student rebelled, they got completely blacklisted in the art world. Madarame only cared about himself.
Kaneshiro... you don't get to be the boss of a mafia like he was the boss of by caring for other people, or by being nice. He was also blackmailing children, and forcing girls into sex work if they could not pay. Even the one person he might have 'cared' for, the main point of giving her money was to blackmail Makoto and the others for the money that'd fill that gap. He didn't care about anyone other than himself.
Futaba... is a special case. She did care about other people, although by the time we see that, the only people she cares about are her mother (despite the view of her mother having been twisted and distorted by the fake suicide note) and Sojiro, bugging Leblanc in order to keep an eye on him.
Okumura very clearly did not care about anyone other than himself. This'll be mentioned in the next bit as well, but all the cognitive beings in his palace were robots. Even Sugimura and Haru were robots. And those who broke down were simply discarded. He didn't care for anyone.
Shido... the only people he 'cared' about were those who he could profit from knowing. And that was more like a business transaction, offering them a place of power when he became Prime Minister, in return for them helping him to reach that position. He definitely didn't care about any of them, a lot of the people he had Akechi kill were people who got too big for their boots. I think he mentions that he wouldn't have had Okumura killed if Okumura hadn't wanted to make the move into politics. He didn't care for anyone.
Sae, however, does still care about Makoto, at the very least. That does say something, since Okumura didn't care about Haru as a daughter. He only used her as an item, an offering to another family.
And now we come onto point C. The appearance of people in her palace.
I will admit this one isn't quite as clear cut a difference as with others, but bear with me here.
The appearance of cognitive beings in someone's palace tells you a lot about the ruler's opinion on people in general. As well as what is happening to them.
In Kamoshida's Palace, all the cognitive beings were the members of the volleyball team. The males were being abused, but the females were being... sexualised. We see shadows of the girls basically nude, and we also see Ann and Shiho in bikinis. They are to be abused, whether physically or sexually, although he's managed to convince himself that the girls WANT it.
In Madarame's palace, there are two sorts of cognitive beings. We have people lining up to go into the gallery/museum, customers who are to there to give him money. And we have his former students, all paintings. Items in his gallery. His works of art.
In Kaneshiro's palace, there are also two sorts of cognitive beings. We have guards and cronies, who work for him. And we have the people he is blackmailing, who are walking ATMs. Sources of money, until they break down and become useless to him.
Futaba's palace is a special case. There aren't really any cognitive beings there, other than the Cognitive Wakaba, who is a giant monster who hurls abusive lies at her daughter when she shows up, and says that Futaba belongs to her. Once that one is taken out though, a Wakaba who is more like how Wakaba actually was appears. As we've mentioned though, Futaba is a special case. Futaba's distorted desire of wrath was directed at herself, she was the victim of her own desires, rather than other people.
It is also notable that Futaba's Shadow is not intentionally hostile to you. She does want to help you, she wants you to free Futaba from her pain. But her trauma and other issues get in the way, since Futaba puts up walls to stop people from hurting her.
Okumura, as we've mentioned, the cognitive beings in his palace are all robots. Even Sugimura, who appears to be human at first, turns into a robot before you fight him. For him, people are to be used.
Shido, all of the people there ARE people, but they're also all under his thumb, and all of them compliment him a LOT. He's deluded himself into thinking they all love him and they all need him. When there are probably a bunch of them who do not like him at all, but can see the profit in helping him. Like, keep in mind Akechi, the cogntive version of Akechi was a loyal killer, whereas the real Akechi was planning on betraying Shido.
And then we get to Sae.
All the cognitive beings in her palace ARE people. While you could say that the games are rigged, and that she is simply profiting from them, keep in mind how casinos works. The games are rigged, but it is still possible to win at them. She hasn't quite gotten to the point of other Palace rulers where she simply profits from absolutely everyone, otherwise when you start winning, security would be on you immediately to beat you up and take the coins you earn, and there would be no-one on the higher member levels. She does try to cheat you near the end, by jacking up the price required to reach her, but that's more of a self defence thing. Think about it, wouldn't you do the same in that situation if you knew that a group was on their way to possibly kill you?
All of this adds up to me thinking that Sae's Palace is relatively new compared to the others. Otherwise Makoto would have noticed a more pronounced difference.
As for how long I think the others had their palaces, just as a bonus...
Kamoshida probably had his before he started at Shujin, from an over inflated ego related to his gold medal. He definitely had it when he broke Ryuji's leg.
Madarame probably had his palace for a LONG time. Considering how many students there are pictures of, and how old Madarame himself is, I would estimate at least 2 decades, and that's me lowballing it.
Edit: I was reminded by the lovely @auncyen that Madarame's 'descent' started with the Sayuri, and Yusuke's mother. Yusuke was three when his mother died, and he is, I believe, the same age as Joker, Ryuji and Ann in Persona 5, which places him around 16-17, so this would have started about 13-14 years ago. With me having been reminded me of all this, I will re-estimate Madarama's palace to having appeared somewhere between 12-13 years ago. While what Madarame did was absolutely terrible, it would still take time for his Palace to form, I think. Although the Sayuri was, of course, a huge part of it, hence it being the Palace's treasure.
Kaneshiro probably had his Palace when he started in the mafia. One of the things about his Palace is that he frets about getting money, otherwise he'd be worthless, which is more something I'd think someone lower on the ladder would be thinking. But considering how he acts in the real world, blowing 3 million like it's nothing, I think he's in charge. Might have someone he answers to, but he's definitely very near the top of the ladder.
Futaba's is a bit easier to guess. We know that Wakaba died about two years before the events of Persona 5, and that a lot of her issues stem from seeing her mother die, and the fake suicide note. I do not think it would have sprung instantly from her mother's death, and that a Palace likely requires time to develop. So it would be less than 2 years old, but definitely more than 1 year old, and I'd wager close to the two year mark.
Okumura... it has been stated that he was not always the way he was. But somewhere along the way, he changed. I imagine he would have changed sometime after taking charge of the company, maybe a little before. I would assume his palace has been around for a decade. It is notable that his move into the political world involved 'leaving' his palace behind, at which point I imagine the palace would have actually changed to reflect his new goal.
Shido... it's hard to know, honestly. I can't remember if we learn much about his backstory, other a little about his history in politics. He definitely had it when Ren encounters him before the events of Persona 5, and had had it for quite a while. Something tells me that he hasn't had it as long as Madarame or Okumura, though. I'd probably lowball it at 5 years, but it's likely closer to a decade, although, as I said, maybe not as long as Okumura, and definitely not as long as Madarame. We know that the metal shutdowns have been going on for two years, so the MINIMUM, it would be 2 years. Because it'd be a bit fucked up to find out about the cognitive world, and then immediately go "this'd be good for killing people!"
But yes, I think Sae Niijama's palace is the most recent one. Thank you if you've read to the end of my rambling.
What's Katsuro's relationship like with the other thieves 👀
This is LONG so I'm putting it under a read more
Joker and Katsuro's relationship is well. Like all of the other confidants. Not gonna go too far into it but when someone helps you find your passion for your craft again and then helps convince your dad to let you go to school for music and not finance or whatever? You're gonna be friends with that guy for a long time. And maybe you develop a crush.
Katsuro is a cat enthusiast (this has nothing to do with his name I SWEAR). Morgana is cat shaped. This results in Katsuro holding Morgana a lot more often than Joker, Futaba, and Haru do. Morgana doesn't seem to mind though.
Katsuro is a musician who likes rock especially, so OBVIOUSLY Ryuji thinks he's cool from the get go. Then he notices the Kosei Art Student weirdness. Still cool but like for real what is a time signature and why are you so absorbed in the music of this game. You keep getting killed bro. Katsuro gravitated to Ryuji cause of the punky style and stayed cause it's easier to beat Ryuji in Super Bash Bros than it is to beat Futaba.
Katsuro works with a few idols who do photo shoots every now and again, so he tends to show up to said shoots for moral support, and sometimes Ann is there! It's a crepe lunch for both of them, Katsuro's got a bit of a sweet tooth, and Ann gives him fashion tips!
Both Katsuro and Yusuke can have long winded conversations about their respective arts and absorb no information whatsoever because they'll talk while the other person is hyperfocused. (ADHD/Autism friendship!) They're close though, and they knew each other when Katsuro went to Kosei!
Makoto and Katsuro did NOT vibe when they first met; they're in the same class so Katsuro met her prior to Kaneshiro's palace. But they definitely get along better after they get to know each other! Katsuro's grades aren't exactly the best (in math especially) but at least he doesn't complain when Makoto asks him to study. Makoto is slightly envious of him though because he memorizes things so much better than she does, so he ends up getting better grades than her on their History and Literature midterms lol. Anyway, study buddies!
Futaba knew of Katsuro prior to their meeting! He helped an artist she listens to record some albums so as you can guess, Futaba was geeked to know that the Katsuro Suemitsu they're helping is the same as the Katsuro Suemitsu credited on some of Mai Okino's latest songs (I randomly generated that name don't look into it). Of course, she realizes how much of a dork he is, so now they play video games together! And honestly they'd probably go to a convention too.
Haru and Katsuro... Idk why but i feel like they'd be super close! Haru has a nickname for him that he loves (Katsu-kun!) and Katsuro ends up giving her a nickname too (Oku-chan!!) They're very happy to hang out together even if they don't have much in common! However, in Mementos? Shadows beware, the positive vibes will positively kill you!
Akechi and Katsuro... hostile. Do not pair them up, they will trip over each other, and it will not be pretty.
Unfortunately I do not see much of a reason for Katsuro and Sumire to hang out, they've really got nothing in common... aside from the fact that Maruki altered them the most out of everyone else in the team.
Everyone gets along the same with Sophia and Gramps Zenkichi so there's really not much to say here lol.
So here's an old alternate ending/scenario for Akane's Jail that came about from a chat I had with @creepymarsh and posted on Twitter a long while back:
After the boss fight with the cognitive PTs, she kind of like still remains in denial of the truth and starts lashing out herself (kind of like an Avatar State sort of thing from AtLA), screaming and crying her eyes out ("I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE AGAIN" "EVERYONE WILL HURT/BETRAY ME AGAIN" "LIARS"). Everyone just has trouble getting close to her to calm her down from what's technically another tantrum… Except Zenkichi just starts to quietly walk up to her, not being phased by her attacking him now. Thing is though… She keeps missing every time, almost like she doesn't want to hit him. She does end up nicking him on the cheek which knocks his mask off, but he doesn't pick it back up to put it on which symbolically shows that he's willing to let himself be vulnerable now and show his true face. H gets closer and she ends up crying and screaming more at this point ("GO AWAY" "YOU NEVER CARED" "WHY NOW" "I WANT MY MOM BACK"). He just looks at her with sympathy and leaves himself wide open for her to attack him. She screams at him again like usual but he doesn't budge, telling her to do it. She screams louder and she launches another attack and it misses again.
Zenkichi: You don't truly hate me do you? You're scared…
She remains in denial and he continues talking the same speech like in canon before hugging her tightly and she gives the same canon response. Everything else just continues like normal after she faints except the group tells him right away that her Shadow disappearing is perfectly normal and she'll be fine as opposed to after it (I just hated that bit so much). But yeah, more of an emotional delivery complete with a small dash of angst and symbolism!
Rpg Anon: 1. Well. Personally I have no idea what persona to give to Hajime. For absolute bias, I was thinking of giving him Shiva, head god of the Hindu Pantheon, just cuz I thought a perfect persona for Mahiru would be Parvati, Shiva's wife(I am also Hinazumi Anon after all). But as much as I like this idea, I can't back it up too much. 2. Like I said before, I already made a bit of persona format for lots of dr characters (mostly dr2 cast) which I personally feel fits them the best. But yeah, if I treat these as alternate DLC P5 Phantom Thieves versions of the protagonist characters, I guess that could work. The builds might still be a bit similar to their originals but I guess I can tweak them around a bit.
//See, here's the thing. That would be good under the condition that I didn't have the constraint of fittng with Persona 5's theme as far as the party's initial Persona's go.
//If this was a Persona in general AU, i.e. it also incorporated the logic of Persona's 1 to 4, then I wouldn't have the problem, since throughout most of the series, the shadows and Persona's are based on gods and other fictional creatures.
//However, the common theme of Persona 5's party members and their Persona's, is that they are all based on history's most famous outlaws, including thieves, societal rebels, and people who shake the Foundation of the law.
//In the cases of the original cast:
Joker's initial Persona, Arsene, is based on Arsene Lupin, one of the most famous gentlemen thieves in media.
Morgana's Persona, Zorro, is a Spanish rogue who defends commoners and the indigenous people of the land against tyrannical officials and other villains.
Ryuji's Persona, Captain Kidd, is a pirate. That's literally all you need to know.
Ann's Persona, Carmen, is based on the character from the novella, and is a gypsy femme fatale.
Yusuke's Persona, Goemon, is literally just Japanese Robin Hood.
Makoto's Persona, Johanna, is based on a woman who became head priest in a society where only men could fill that role. She did so by disguising herself as a man and infiltrating the system.
Futaba's Persona is Necronomicon. It's not based off a person, but the tome that it is based on is notable for possessing forbidden knowledge from the ancient ones, and those who read it risk losing their minds.
Haru's Persona, Milady, a gentlelady criminal who serves as one of the main antagonists of The Three Muskateers.
Akechi's two Persona's both represent the will or rebellion. Everyone knows the story of both Robin Hood and Loki, and how both of them were known for rebelling against their respective society's.
Yoshizawa's Persona is Cendrillon or Cinderella, another character who famously disguised herself and broke her house's rules to go to the Prince's ball.
Sophia's Persona Pandora is based on Pandora's Box, a box containing all the evil's of the world that Pandora and her husband Epimetheus released.
Lastly, Zenkichi's Persona Valjean is based on the character from Les Misarables, who commits crimes but with the intention of providing for his family.
//Now, I have already gone over it in each individual post, but this is the theme for each character in the Persona 5 AU for Danganronpa:
Makoto's Persona, Mickey, is based on Michael Spillane, the "last of the gentleman gangsters" from Hell's Kitchen.
Black Rose, Kuripa's Persona, is based on a Phantom Thief by the same name from the anime Ashita no Nadja.
Hajime's Persona, Mephisto, as you probably know, is based on the demon, who was a familiar of the devil who defected from God.
Shuichi's Persona is based on Giacomo Casanova, a famous Italian adventurer and spy.
Kaede's Persona is based on Irene Adler, a character from Sherlock Holmes and one of his most fierce competitors.
Komaru and Toko's Persona's are a duo, being based on Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Elizabeth Parker, of Bonnie and Clyde fame.
//Personally speaking, I think I can get a pass on Hajime's Persona being Mephisto simply because I don't think it's any different from how Akechi's true Persona is Loki.
Okay, I'm gonna give you my best attempt at explaining Persona 5. Spoilers for Persona 5 and sorry if this doesn't end up helping much.
No matter which way you slice it the phantom thieves consist of at least, Joker/Ren, Ryuji, Ann, Futaba, Makoto, Haru, Yusuke, Morgana. This is pretty much undebatable.
The base game Persona 5 got an expansion that added the character Kasumi. She joins the Phantom thieves at the very end of the game. She has a fairly established relationship with the other members. In my opinion, she counts.
Sophie and Zenkichi are characters introduced in a sequel/spin off game. Although it follow the original storyline, it's not a mainline Persona game. While there's no cannon reason to not include them I feel like when people talk about the Phantom Thieves they're talking about the characters in the main game.
Akechi is where it gets complicated. Since you don't know anything about Persona or it's fandom I'll say that Akechi is probably the most polarizing character in the game. While he does join the Phantom Thieves, it's for the purpose of betraying them. How much Akechi really cares about the Phantom Thieves is dependent on your interpretation of his character. Unfortunately, this may just be something you're gonna have to make a call on yourself as there is no consensus around Akechi.
Thank you so much for the thorough explanation! It helps a lot! :))
I'm probably gonna make one or two other clarifying polls about it, now that I kinda understand it better.
S/o bringing breakfast in bed h/c for Iwai, Sae, Maruki and Zenkichi. Thank you.
Bringing Them Breakfast in Bed
Fandom: Persona 5
Character(s): Munehisa Iwai, Sae Nijima, Takuto Maruki, Zenkichi Hasegawa
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): No problem!
Tumblr media
Iwai
Definitely wasn't expecting to wake up to see you smiling widely as you walk in with a platter of food. He's not really one to like to eat in bed, but he'll make an exception.
Wonders out loud how long you've been planning this or how long it took you to cook it all. He appreciates it but states you should just stay in bed with him instead of doing all of this.
Iwai doesn't really talk much when he eats breakfast, but you can see that he does have gratitude for you doing such a kind gesture for him. He appreciates it and will take care of cleaning up.
Sae
She has absolutely left home without breakfast before due to being in a hurry to get to work. So her waking up has her halfway out of bed before you walk in with breakfast made for her.
Sae pauses as she sees it and smiles at the gesture even if there is a bit of concern too. It is really sweet of you to do that, but there's no way in hell she's going to eat in bed and potentially make a mess. There is a set date to wash the sheets and blanket and that's not today.
So while you might pout at her kind of ruining your plans, she happily moves to sit and eat with you at the dining table. She will try and make plans to get off of work early as thanks for going to this effort for her.
Maruki
Maruki is an early riser and always wakes up before you. So you really have to make sure to get up early enough to surprise him. And you certainly manage to do so.
Give him a moment to wake up and get his glasses on as you're just a blob holding something. When he sees you brought him breakfast, it puts a smile on his face as he takes the plate in one hand and brings you into a hug with his other.
Happily eats his meal as he talks to you about plans for your day. Might say something cheesy like how his day is always off to a good start because he wakes up next to you.
Zenkichi
He wakes up, still a bit groggy, and his eyes widen when he sees you brought him breakfast. Nothing fancy, but it's still very unexpected. Might make a comment about how you've finally decided to poison him.
Zenkichi happily eats the food though and thanks you as he does, trying not to talk with his mouth full. Ends up grumbling if he gets crumbs in the bed and tells you he'll clean that up so you don't have to.
While the breakfast in bed was very nice, he probably ends up late to work because of it. He just wanted to savor the meal you made him and spend time with you. Luckily he doesn't get into too much trouble, but it was a close call.
hi hello sorry if ur nyquill has kicked in and i missed the jump BUT i have some age swap au questions - what's everyone's persona? elemental affinities? weapons? does iwai still sell them (even tho he's a member of the party) or does someone else do that?
Coming at you the morning after! I libed.
For the personas? I'm. Yeah I don't got much. I know the names would have to be Very Important, so I'm. Gonna take some time with that, but I have everyone's team roles?
Sojiro is of course, the wild card. But his original persona (my insert name for now has been Heracles, but. That's being changed) used Bless.
Next up is Chariot Sae! Her element is Ice! She's a bruiser for sure, having a line of physical attacks and a few spells to lower enemy defense. Low magic, super high physical. Her weapons are longer sticks, she. Has a hockey player aesthetic. Cause she is one-
As for Lovers Chihaya, I've given her wind. She's a wind girly in my opinion. She's got high magic stats cause she has their curing moves, the heals, etc
They. Should have a Magician. I. Just don't have one picked. Sorry folks
Then it's Emperor Munehisa. His element is fire. He's another bruiser type, does heavy damage. Debuffs enemies a bit y'know?
WOOOO and give it up for Priestess Toranosuke! Psi, he's a psi guy. A party buffer and healer, he's a great asset to the team!
And. Well. Hermit Tae is the Navi.
Empress Ichiko is nuke. She's, explosive lmao. Enemy debuffs, heavy nuke damage, she's a kicker for sure.
And then. The Royal party members.
Zenkichi is our Sumire here, so he'd be third semester only. Also, bless. At this point Sojiro would have enough firepower to be using Almighty anyways so. Yeah
And. Takuto.
He's Curse right from the start. He's bumbling and all that but he deals a lot of curse damage. Self buffs, all that
--
Sorry that I don't have much for the weapons this is still a work in progress
--
Munehisa Iwai does not provide the weapons! That's a role for the Hanged Man. Makoto.
She went down a different path here. Ex military, trying to stay on good behavior to keep custody of her younger sister. She runs a little military co-op in Shibuya, where she sells "models" to Sojiro and his team
That's those
Happy birthday to Ryuji!!!
Many years after the events of R.Y.V.A.L. and D.N.S.C. (WARNING: CONTAINS FUTURE SPOILERS ABOUT MAJOR AND MINOR CHARACTERS)...
Akira smooches Ryuji's forehead as they, Xuppu, his mom Yume, Chie, Yukiko, Haru, Makoto, Yuuki, Shiho, Ann, Yusuke and Futaba sit around a big cake Marinette helped Akira make. Morgana is sitting on Chie's shoulder.
Unfortunately, Zenkichi, Sophia, and the rest of the Phantom Thieves sent Ryuji gifts ahead of time, as they were busy dealing with some urgent alternate timeline stuff that day...
Akira: Happy birthday, mon nounours. How's it feel to be 26?
Ryuji: Heh... I didn't think I'd make it this long, never mind with this many happy memories.
Akira: Only the best for the best boy!
Ryuji, flushing: M-me? Best boy? I dunno about that...
Chie: None of that downer talk today, Sakamoto-kun. Enjoy your birthday!
Yukiko: It does only happen once a year! Birthdays are important - you get to celebrate your very existence!
Akira's moms look to each other, communicating with a smile. Something about a future in-law...
Ann: Yeah! Ryuji, you're totally the best boy!
While Xuppu nuzzles his hair, she and Shiho kiss him on each of his cheeks, garnering a smile from him.
Ryuji: Love you guys, too...
Yuuki: We're serious, though. You really do represent the Chariot Arcana!
Futaba, nodding along: Mm-hm! Your level of courage and bravery totally surpasses ours!
Yusuke: We do look almost recreant in comparison, don't we? When the fears of the past fill me up, Ryuji, it helps me to ponder what you would do.
Makoto: Yusuke and Morgana mentioned how you stepped in front of a taxi to get you guys after Kaneshiro's boys. I can't thank you enough... we can't thank you enough...
Haru gives him a big, strong hug. Ever since everything went down, Haru became a total cuddlebug, and had spent many times snuggling up with all of the Phantom Thieves in countless combinations.
Haru: We love you, Ryuji. Please don't forget that... okay, best boy?
Makoto and the rest of them laugh.
Yume: That sounds about right to me, Ryuji... you're the light of my life, and I hope you get to celebrate many more birthdays as happy as you are. Okay?
She hugs him with a level of strength that many don't expect from a soft, kind woman like her. The party goes on for a good chunk of the day, but eventually everyone but Ryuji, Yume and Akira (who's staying the night at the Sakamoto's house) go back to their homes.
Ryuji, remembering something while brushing his teeth: Oh, shit. Gotta go get the mail!
Akira watches him go with a big grin. He takes a deep breath in and out before nodding to himself in determination.
Meanwhile, Ryuji exits the house and opens the mailbox. Inside he finds a big, stuffed envelope addressed to him.
He opens it and finds a long letter and a check for 2,165,000 yen. The long and short of the letter is an apology to him that should have been given about 9 years and 10 months ago. Its Hancock makes him freeze before sighing and shaking his head with a frown. He pockets the check and envelope and hurries into the house to talk to Akira about it.
hello, i just found your monsters and magic au and from what i've seen its super cool! i'll definitely be reading 'make every moment last' once summer hits, for sure (its a bit long and i kinda wanna read it all in one go). dunno if this'll be spoilers, but do you think you could give a bit of info on the phantom thieves? you mentioned that everyone besides like 3 of them were human, which seems to have changed from the iterations in the post that listed all of their species. and also whats up with reaper ryuji? curious to know about those choices, and hoping you can shed some light! have a nice day! (ps: i also really really like minato's clock eye, its so cool and i may have to steal that idea for an oc of my own djfhjdfhk)
I'm glad you like it! The last chapter of Make Every Moment Last should be up on June 30th, so it should be ready for a nice binge for the summer.
And the stuff with the Phantom Thieves isn't spoilers at all, I promise. I think there might be a small mix-up. Because they live in a heavily human populated area, a majority of the Phantom Thieves are at least part-human. I probably should edit the list, but for clarity:
Both of Ren's parents are witches, so he's a full-blooded witch.
Morgana is... Morgana.
Ryuji is a reaper/shinigami. It's implied that this comes from his father, as in P5 he has to learn to control his abilities from an outside source. This person is also the one who gave Ryuji his disguise charm to hide his reaper traits.
Instead of 3/4 American, Ann is 3/4 Demon and 1/4 human. Her father is half-human.
I talk about this more in a separate post, but Yusuke's kitsune blood and powers come from his father. His mother was a human woman.
Makoto actually was born human. After an accident took her life, a friend of Sae's reached out to help. As a result, Makoto was kind of... resurrected. Like Frankenstein. This is something that's highly illegal to do on purpose. (there's one instance where it was on accident. we'll get to that later, but for now it's spoilers. let's just say it's how sae's friend figured out that there was a way to bring back the dead.) So, Makoto is a zombie. There's a lot of lore involved with that.
Futaba is... I got inspired by Necronomicon for this. Wakaba was some kind of eldritch being that Futaba constantly writes off as "sea monster" as to not freak people out. Her father was human, whomever he may be. This all depends on your headcanons, honestly.
Haru's father is a vampire, but her mother wasn't. Technically speaking, that makes her something called a dhampir but details. This does come into play with how I write out her Awakening scene.
Akechi plays things off like he's a full-blooded witch, much like Ren. However, since Shido is human in this AU, that's not true. The fact that Akechi is half-human is something that he hates and he thinks makes him weaker. So, unlike Ren who was predisposed to magic and natural talent, Akechi had to work and study hard to get as strong as he is by the time P5 rolls around. There's... There's a bit more that I do with Akechi, but uh... spoilers.
Sumire (and by extension, Kasumi as well) are both full-blooded fae. Both of their parents are fae, specifically flora fae. So their magic has a lot to do with plants and the like. I hint at Sumire's true identity by having her only able to use her powers to grow violets for the longest time. Her magic knows the truth, even if she refuses to acknowledge it.
I actually have yet to figure out what Sophia is. I don't know if I'm gonna keep her as an AI or have things get much darker with her being a spirit trapped in the digital world.
And obviously, Zenkichi is a werewolf. His codename is Wolf. How could I not do that? The only issue is, up until the Kyoto Jail, he has no idea. So it's a fun thing to play around with.
As for Ryuji, he originally was supposed to be the Phantom Thieves' team werewolf! I changed it, however, when Strikers came out and I started playing it. I thought that it would make more sense for the werewolf to be the person who's codename was Wolf.
The reason why Ryuji is a reaper now is actually because of Captain Kidd and the whole skeleton vibe going on. Since the undead are rather rare (and only vampires are legal, we aren't allowed to raise the dead), an immediate skeleton was out of the question. That's how I landed on reaper instead. It gives him a chance to have badass powers, too, to use in combat.
And besides, there's already one reaper in the overall Persona cast in P2. Why not have another?
If we're being honest, I completely forget the original reason that mark was included on Minato's eye. I think I just wanted a cool design element to make him stand out from his canon counterpart, and it ended up playing into the lore of the story.
[SPOILERS!] Phantom Thieves Encouragement Part 1
Zenkichi is truly at lost, not knowing what to do anymore while beating himself down, believe he’s no good any criminals... until Joker told Zenkichi (it can be any choices and Zenkichi will response different words) by not giving up. Soon Futaba joins in and reminded Zenkichi he did it to protect Akane, even if it was the wrong way, he only did it to protect his daughter. More coming soon...
I wonder what was going through Joker/Ren’s mind after hearing and seeing Zenkichi beating himself down like that?
