too many of you guys think nico is the loser and not lewis for letting the divorce go on for so long. like they're both losers about each other. emotionally constipated idiots who can't talk about their toxic homoerotic friendship that imploded on itself like 8 years ago and are now making it everyone else's problem. yeah nico's on television or in beer gardens talking about lewis all the time but like every other month some reporter is like "lewis, what's your favorite moment in your career?" and lewis no hesitation is like "oh man, karting, y'know? everything was simpler then" and then spends another six months skirting around nico's name. like this whole thing they're doing in the media isn't some kinda extended foreplay for them. they're both still pressing on the bruise to make sure it's still there!!! every few months, they're literally just asking on public television, does it still hurt for you like it does for me? and like clockwork, someone will release new information about them or one of them will say something about each other (in my heart, he's still my best friend/yes... and teammate) and the answer will remain the same, yes, of course, always.

Ok, so Noldolantë, "The Fall of the Noldor" is a lament composed by Maglor about what happened before, during and after First Kinslaying at Alqualondë. It's such a good song that it's played regularly in Aman and Valar listen to it often (I swear, I swear it was in the Silmarillion I just can't find it now).

It's also a more or less common fanon that Maglor continues writing Noldolante through the whole First Age. Makes sense - it's about fall of the Noldor, and Noldor did a lot of falling back then.

Headcannon time: So my first thought was that Noldolante must a long, long, long epic of a song. So it probably has many parts, right? Iliad has 24 books/parts, somehow I think Noldolante would be at least just as long, and there are longer epics. And again, just like Iliad, unless you're a scholar, in the daily life you don't really listen to/read the whole thing, just reread and repeat the most dramatic fragments. What I'm trying to impress upon you all is that the story would have different segments, or chapters, if you will.

And if Maglor continues to write the story during the FA, there would absolutely be a moment in the lament where the OG Noldolante becomes Noldolante 2, and even Noldolante 3. There may be the same musical motif or something, I decided that Maglor IS that good of a bard to keep it all consistent enough so you know it's all the same story, but the style changes a lot - it's been 400 years in the making, let The Music Elf have fun!

So, Point 1: Many, Many Parts, basically Maglor's FA WIP

My second thought was that, while Feanor invented his alphabet, elves learned their history mostly through oral tradition aka songs and spoken stories. Noldolante is definitely a historical record, where a historical event was archived for future generations.

(It was a also a way to deal with grief, guilt and blame Maglor and all Noldor have faced regarding First Kinslaying - free therapy! But that's not what this post is about)

My 2.5 thought was that Noldolante isn't just recallings of how pretty and horrified the beach looked during the murdering or how mad and sorrowful the sea was at everyone during the voyage or even how awesome and charismatic Feanor looked during his speeches that every single Noldo was ready to fight Morgoth barehanded in his name - no, this is a record of who killed who, who got killed by whom, and how.

Noldor and Teleri knew each other (were friends, even!) before the First Kinslaying, so I'm confident that after a lot of interviews, detective work, and cross-referencing, Maglor could and would create a very good... name list. Practically every Noldo and Teler present during First Kinslaying would get a stanza in a song, more if he killed someone, most if he killed many people. Killers and killed would show up twice, first in a fragment listing the killers and their victims, then in a part listing the victims and their murderers. Basically it's the same thing twice, but from different POVs. With when, where and how included.

(It was seen to be in bad taste to compare kills during Maglor's Regency, when most of his interview-part work happened. People did it anyway. There were a Saddest Kill, Funniest Kill, and Weirdest Kill discusions. There was a Tier List. These were weird times to be a Feanorian Noldo.)

(It WAS in Bad Taste, but at least people talked about it. I cannot stress enough how much free therapy this lament provided)

(Little did they know, when Teleri started getting reembodied in Aman, they had very similar discussions, but more in a "I can't believe he killed me like THAT" way. Long, long, long after the First Age. Noldolante is a gift that keeps giving)

So, Maglor had all the historical grith and no common shame to create a "We Killed All These People And We Feel Bad About It" banger of a song, and every Noldo had a very personal reason to at least remember the fragments they are in. It's a hit on a scale never seen before.

(I'm not sure how to tackle the issue of Nolofinweans and Arafinweans learning about Noldolante after crossing the Ice. But there were discussions. There was anger, there was "????", there was controversy. Basically, the song got bigger and bigger rep no matter what your opinion on it was. By the time of Mereth Aderthad it was an important cultural and political piece and at least Fingon's forces were included in the main song. It had parodies.)

Point 2: Archive Function/Kill count storage. Cultural phenomen, every Noldo included

This is where my personal nonsense begins: Main Noldolante was done, there was nothing more to say about First Kinslaying, all killings and deaths were well documented.

But the Siege started. And the Noldor kept dying.

It was less dramatic than it sounded - between the big battles the siege was maintained, but orc raids also happened and sometimes one to few Noldor died in skirmishes. The legal procedure was to document the death of a fellow elf and send a word to king Fingolfin. The cultural procedure, technically started by Feranorians but adapted by many more, was to send the name, common characteristics and cause of death to Maglor's Gap. After few months, King Fingolfin would send reinforcements, short condolences and financial compensation if they had family. After few months, family of an elf would also receive a personal lament for them and a place for them in a Noldolante.

Yes, every lament Maglor created in that time was technically part of the Noldolante. Noldolante 1.5, if you will. Laments make in that time were very customized, and simpler than Noldolante Main, but were still considered a part of the same song. Of course, nobody was expected to know and remember laments for every single Noldo, younger Noldor born in Beleriand could even only know fragments about their family members. Only Maglor would ever know Noldolante in full, but it was understood that everyone had their place in The Song.

The results of Great Battles were harder to document, but Maglor did that. Of course, Dagor Bragollach was hard on him personally, but he worked his way through.

(High King Fingon forbade creating laments for his father. There were no songs for Fingolfin. Apart from in Noldolante, of course. Of course. Maglor did not share the lament with anyone, but he sat long hours and many nights with a blank paper before him, looking at the candle flame and thinking of the past and the future. The song unsung, but there)

Nirnaeth was... Maglor was never more hated and more approached at the same time than then. Still, Noldolante grew and grew, as if people knew the end was near.

It was Second Kinslaying that destroyed the myth of Maglor's song. Feanorians didn't know the Sindar they killed, but surely, they couldn't just left their names unmentioned like they did with orcs? So, Noldor talked, but the battle happened in caves - it wasn't uncommon to find dead bodies in empty rooms, with no witnesses to what happened. Surviving Sindar didn't want to share any names, even when Maglor strong-armed some into talking with him, and good for them. Maglor made a big lament anyway. Maglor, wild, with no shame and dead brothers, with legacy crumbling around him. Noldolante, with holes.

After Third Kinslaying, Noldor didn't want to talk. Lament for Sirion didn't have any names. Clearly, songs weren't a way to go anymore, it was always about live witnesses. And so Maglor raised the twins.

Lament for Maedhros was sung repeatedly. There was no one to hear it.

Point 3: Only Maglor knows Noldolante in full. But that doesn't matter, because everyone knows the important part: the Noldolante is finished. The Star of Hope rises in the West and the story goes on. The Fall has ended.

death mark voice drama my beloved and also it almost feels like Yashiki and Mashita are bound together by the loss of the people closest to them...they really do complement each other well in their approaches here While Mashita is correct in saying that we can't stay stuck in the past/we have to move on eventually, (though ultimately ironic because Mashita very much didn't move forward until he solved what happened to his mentor with the honeybee family) by Yashiki saying that the pain he feels over Saya's death is real and awful (poor fucking guy) I think it helps ground both himself and Mashita in dealing with their grief and it being ok to remember the past while continuing forward

Of course, they would group the kids and do more than one run: Prolongs their fun and the traitors's suffering.

Not that all of the kids are sent to fight. The Olympians who have children there are more likely to spare their favourite ones and hold it over their heads for the rest of their life. (And leave the ones they don't like to die)

Sponsorships still happen, it's an effective way to break the comradeship. You're more likely to receive one if 1) Your godly parent is an Olympian and/or 2) You’re more willing to put up with whatever the gods throw at you without a fuss.

The current run is broadcasted to the imprisoned demis as a further way to break their spirits, and so they can see their friends kill eachother, sometimes without hesitation.

The winners gets paraded around Mt. Olympus. They're free now that won the gods's bloody bullshit, right? Wrong. Sure they're being "celebrated" for killing their friends but they're nothing more than shiny trophies. Just props for entertainment :)

Of course, with the way things are broadcasted to the other members of army make it seem like one of their own being treated like a celebrity for turning on them, which further drives wedges between the victors and them.

The winners gets to watch their own run, too. They can't turn on Olympus if they're too busy self-loathing :)

The kids are prepped up before their interviews, a courtesy of Aphrodite (so what if some of her own children are there, they should've knew better than treason), but they’re sent to the arena with basic white chitons. The Olympians get nostalgic all right, they’re old. (And it does make the Ta demis feel even more degraded and patronised.)

The Arena itself is really pretty, too pretty for what's happening inside. I'm talking about polished marble Greek columns, giant statues of the gods, intricate carvings of silver and gold.

[It is of course designed by their newest architect. Not that Annabeth knows what it's going to be used for. They petition for "a shiny arena for godly games" and she does it. Not knowing it's going to be used for demigod bloodshed. She can't be imprisoned like her half-brother Daedalus however, they can't have either of the camps know about what's going on. (Those in Ta who knew her recognises her work, however causing them to think the Camp is on it) So, Hera kindly takes it upon herself to wipe the memory. She needed practice for her future exchange program anyway.]

Do you think it's true that GRRM said that Sansa wasn't a Stark anymore after Lady's death? I've seen the interview passed around before but I'm not sure if it's an official thing

In regards to the conversation about the dire wolves and the Starks the point was made (I forget by whom) that Lady was dead and Sansa still alive to which I replied that Sansa wasn't really much of a Stark anymore. IIRC (this is a little hazy), at this point GRRM kind of leaned back in his chair, smiled and said something to the effect of "A very astute observation." (source)

I'm assuming this is what you're referring to. To answer the question, I wholeheartedly believe that George said something along these lines. A majority of fandom disregards it for obvious reasons but it definitely makes sense within the story. Now, he obviously isn't saying that Lady's death means Sansa isn't literally a Stark anymore, and that's the perspective I often see people use to refute this idea. She still has her Northern and familial connections and no one is debating that.

The fact is though that the Direwolves are a big aspect of identity for the Starks, on top of being the living embodiment of their sigil. They are soul-bonded, connected through magic, and they're going to be very important in the upcoming books. We have Nymeria and her large pack, Jon (most likely) warging into Ghost before his death, Rickon's direwolf being used to confirm his identity (and it's very likely he's developed his warging), Bran has a very strong connection with Summer and it's helped him develop his abilities, etc. All very tangible, plot-relevant aspects. The direwolves are also connected to each other and aware of their siblings, and Lady's death is acutely noticed by them. Sansa is, literally, disconnected from the other Starks in that aspect. George wouldn't have just put that in the story if it wasn't meant to mean anything. If he wanted Lady alive, he would've found a way to keep her alive. I don't think this means Sansa is destined to die, forever lose her identity as a Stark, or anything else particularly bad because of it. I just think that within the context of the story, her losing her direwolf is of some significance 🤷🏾‍♀️

On reflection i think Dragon taking in Sabo but leaving Luffy behind could potentially become a huge wrinkle in how Luffy thinks of him once they do actually meet. He could even see it as Dragon breaking up the brothers needlessly, Luffy more loyal to Ace than this essential stranger deciding in his head that Ace would have never stood in the way of the three of them staying together. Or even a 3 way conflict of “sabo would never have wanted his brothers to abandon their dream for him” vs. “luffy and ace would have wanted the opportunity to help Sabo”

Which cooould lubricate the story wheels a little for a more civil crocodile and luffy crocdad reunion, if crocodile expressed some disagreement in Dragon’s judgement or philosophy that could stand to better align with Luffy’s feelings on the topic (probably some form of pragmatism about how its pointless to save the one when you could just as easily take all 3, or that severing Sabo from his brothers made him a weaker fighter than if Dragon had taken all 3, etc.)

Goldfish logic Luffy. He is currently mad at Dragon-dad but Croco-dad is agreeing with him on it so he’s ok with Croco-dad now.

I don't think Dragon lowkey adopting Sabo would do anything to hurt Luffy's relationship with Dragon or sour his view of his father. Like there are genuinely understandable reasons to why Dragon couldn't stay with Luffy, and Sabo ended up with Dragon under unusual, unintended circumstances. Like, if Dragon explained why things turned out the way they did, I think Luffy would understand and wouldn't hold any grudges against him. Dragon had his reasons, he did what he did, what's done is done and it all turned out okay in the end, so knowing Luffy he should be okay with it.

That said, there are things Dragon did absolutely fuck up. Things that could possibly lead to Luffy being a little mad at Dragon and/or take Crocodile's side on something.

Now to be fair, we don't know how the Dragodile Divorce went down, like there are Circumstances that could potentially explain some of these potential fuck ups (on Dragon's behalf) away. But we can't go through all the potential scenarios of what might've gone down here, in the end, what really matters is that:

Dragon didn't tell Crocodile his full name

Dragon didn't tell Crocodile what he named their child

Dragon did not contact Crocodile about their child being a pirate

Dragon knew full fucking well Crocodile was literally World Famous for crushing pirates in Alabasta

Dragon knew Luffy entered the Grand Line and thus there was a genuine possibility he could eventually reach Alabasta

Even if we put what happened with the manufactured rebellion and Vivi aside, if the Strawhats had gone to Alabasta and wrecked any havoc there (even by accident as Luffy tends to do), Crocodile would have gone and killed the crew, just like the thousands of others he had crushed before. And Dragon would have been aware of this. He should have known that could happen. That his ex and child could end up fighting and someone (namely the child) dying

Meaning, even without the Bizarre Circumstances they were in, it is arguably Dragon's fucking fault that Crocodile tried to kill their son three whole times. Because Dragon didn't tell Crocodile anything, and did not even warn him their son could end up in Alabasta.

If Crocodile turned out to be fucking furious at Dragon for this, well, he would be objectively justified in being angry. Because Dragon did fucking drop the ball there, completely. Croc tried to kill his own son, completely unaware, because Dragon couldn't even tell his own full name to his partner. Not even the name of their son. Nothing.

And so if Crocodile was fucking furious at Dragon for it, perhaps even a little upset about what he did to his baby boy because of Dragon's incompetence. Yeah I think Luffy would understand Croc's feelings. He might just take Crocodile's side there.

Especially because we don't know how the Dragodile Divorce went down either, like if shit got even a little transphobic then god knows Dragon Fucked Up Bad and Luffy won't side with that shit either

Asperia had a nickname in the underworld for a long time (among those aware of the Temple, at least): the Brat Princess of the Bhaal cult. It had a few layers to it. One of them was that Asperia came to power as the leader of the cult remarkably, notably young- barely more than twelve years old. A child prodigy, you might say (although it wouldn't be entirely accurate). Not the only reason, though- he was also infamous for seemingly unpredictable moods and whims and for being incredibly difficult to deal with (even for a Bhaalist). Some of this "moodiness" and tendency to forget things was, though nearly no one knew, because "Asperia" wasn't always the same person, but that was the impression that formed the reputation. And it was definitely deepened by Asperia's tendency to dismiss any accusations of forgetting things with "clearly it wasn't (and you aren't) important enough to be worth remembering, so I don't see how this is my problem." Truly nothing covers for lost time like a sincere belief that other people matter so little that they can pass out of existence without consequence. Asperia was also known for generally self-aggrandizing behavior, frequently referencing personal divine superiority to others, treating most people as servants (very expendable ones), and always being accompanied by that damned butler. She gave the macabre impression of being an entitled rich kid who expected everyone knowing about her daddy would flatten any obstacle in her path.

Oh, and the fact he sometimes did literally call himself "princess of murder." Charming.

Hm, Asperia's habits... aside from the obsessive religious devotion, there are a number of quirks. One significant thing about Asperia is that he has a tendency to dictate a lot of his thoughts and actions out loud when Scleritas is nearby. She expects that Scleritas will then remind her later of anything she's forgotten, or write it down so she can refresh herself (not that she should need to- that would imply Scleritas isn't there to be called on and obviously her butler would never leave her waiting). It's a dramatic, grandiose behavior for the person who claims not to bother keeping track of things beneath them, but it's a habit that most of the alters kept (and were encouraged to by Scleritas) and because of that was a significant counterbalance to losing time. Is something confusing? Ask Scleritas what's happening. He'll remind you of what "you" told him so brilliantly. It's important to note that Asperia was virtually unaware of the dissociation until shortly before the events of the game, so to Asperia this really was Scleritas reminding her of events so trivial to a divine prodigy that they slipped her mind. Those hours of careful work Paracelsus put into this project: Asperia's achievements, as long as Scleritas can describe them. Joslyn negotiating some internal troubles in the cult: Asperia did it, they were just a bit preoccupied to think much of it.

Of course, not a perfect method. Scleritas isn't always around, for one thing. Servants must sometimes be away keeping house. And sometimes Asperia had killed him for some reason or other and he hadn't come back quite yet. But more than that, there was someone who didn't like to talk to him: Kasander. Most of the blanks in Asperia's life past a certain age that they could never seem to fill were times they had switched with Kasander. Alarming blanks, considering that those were times that "Asperia" seemed to be doing everything that they shouldn't. That was always unsettling. But even though Scleritas could never give the concrete dictions to explain away secondhand reports of strange behavior, talking to him was still always good for making the worry disappear. There was always a theory there. Always something to make it rational, or to show how to make it up to Father when it was misbehavior that couldn't be explained away.

Of course, Scleritas knew what was happening all along. But it was much easier to mold an Asperia who didn't know- especially when those oral records were so easy to change to suit a moment's need.

oh my gosh, yes, absolutely.

I couldn't picture aki ever yelling at his kids, or even really getting that mad with them. he's always such a patient and loving dad. he gets upset sometimes, sure, but he never ever takes that out on them.

aki, who's the kind of dad who helps his child talk through their emotions when they get upset rather than just snapping at them... aki who never yells at his child when they make a mistake or break something... who is so grateful and loves his kids no matter what.......
