The defintion of hell is knowing a show is incredibly well-received in its first season, but if people don’t become machines churning out tweets, content, and rewatching 24/7, there’s no likelihood it’ll get a chance to tell its whole story. This shit is madness. Shows in different genres shouldn’t have to pit-battle for dominance. First seasons are MEANT to be baselines establishing worlds and characters, not complete storylines. The idea that this golden age of television has turned into “get it done in one or get out” is revolting.

FIGHT SCENE (that came to me while sick and slightly out of it so bear with me if it sounds CRAZYYYY)

Jazz is fighting some villain. Villain tries to use her dead brother as emotional collateral. She ignores it, seemingly unaffected, and continues to fight.

At some point the villain will be almost defeated, awaiting the final blow. They try one final plea to the red haired woman defeating them, “What would your brother say?”

At that moment, a boy falls through the ceiling, landing on the ground in front of the woman with a smug smile on his face. “I’D SAY -Actually wait hold on a sec.”

The boy gently tugs on the woman’s foot. “Jazz c’mere!” He loudly whispers.

She lets out an irritated sigh, says “Fine.”and hops over until her foot is lightly resting on his stomach. It’s almost picturesque. Her standing triumphantly on the boy who has now dramatically put his hand to his head.

He cries out (with a shit eating grin on his face), “OVER MY DEAD BODY!”

Villain: …

Danny: …

Villain: …

Danny: GET IT? Because I’m DEAD???

Jazz: “Ugh, you’re SO dramatic.”

Danny: Eh, it was funnier in my head.

Villain: …But he’s not dead?!

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is that small moment in “Air Turtle” where immediately after the Daves lose yet another game, Leo says how sorry he is and how he’s doing his best as the mascot. This moment is so short but it’s honestly jam-packed with a whole heap of characterization.

His need to apologize for things clearly not his fault - especially when it feels like he messes up the job he was given despite doing the best he can (the phrase “it’s not about you” takes a new meaning when this is one of the lessons to be learned from that - that he is not always solely responsible for things going wrong), his need to save face and make a connection with an older adult man in his life (something he consistently does throughout the series - he’s got a few daddy issues, always collecting potential father figures, it’s no wonder he jumps at the bit to keep rapport), and the way he sounds and looks and the words he chooses really pushes how he is just a kid (“Mr. the Dunk, I’m so sorry”).

Like I know it’s a one off moment that doesn’t truly mean much, but when put against the rest of the series it works really well with the rest of Leo’s established character and helps in solidifying later concepts as well.

why are u mad that people dont care about sex anymore?

i don’t know if this is meant to be a gotcha but i could not care less what individual people feel about sex individually. what i DO care about is the wider conversation about sex both how it’s presented in the media and how individuals are able to express their own sexuality. and what i have been seeing is not people “not caring” or being indifferent but people being actively hostile to the idea of sex. people saying they don’t want sex on their screens because it’s gross or inappropriate or not important. and people moralizing it to the extent that the inclusion or not of sex is a reflection on both the quality and worth of the media and a reflection on the people who enjoy it

there’s this narrative around shows like the bear and other things about sex “ruining” relationships between characters and besides just being nonsensical and stupid that is actually quite concerning to me? like when did witnessing a very human part of our lives become threatening to our ability to find our own meaning in stories? everyone has an ability to make choices about what media to engage in and behaving as if the media owes you a certain story when you could just choose to stop watching is very selfish and short sighted

blanket statements like sex has no meaning to the plot or x type of sex shouldn’t be shown onscreen very quickly spirals into policing the individual sex that real people get to have. and even without going down that road censorship is scary to me and people “not caring” about sex is turning into a lot of self censorship. and if we’re already censoring ourselves it is laughably easy for politicians and corporations to just cut out every single element they don’t like because they can find people in the audience willing to side with them

like at the end of the day watch what you want to watch. but behaving as if your personal standards are a) shared by everyone and b) should be IMPOSED on everyone and should be the default for telling stories is unhinged. sex is a part of human life that is deeply important to a lot of people, myself included. and it deserves to have a place in the stories that want to include it

There’s something in TGCF fanfic that’s regularly forgotten, that I was fairly sure was canon but was confirmed completely by the newly-release extra.

The gods do NOT know Hua Cheng’s true form even in post-canon, and he doesn’t usually wear it outside of fights were he needs his full strength(and, of course, the private company of his husband). The gods even mention in the newest extra that Hua Cheng in his true form terrifies them because it’s the form that’s only seen when he’s going on a rampage!

From the Gambler’s Den arc, we can infer that he either uses his true form slightly more often in Ghost City, or he noticed Xie Lian’s arrival and shifted to his true form in accordance to his promise. Considering that the residents of ghost city didn’t recognize his form very well either, the second one is the likeliest option.

Even in the Black Water arc, Hua Cheng remained in his San Lang form until he was alone in the coffin with Xie Lian, and - forgive me if I’m remembering wrong - transformed back to San Lang when they reached the shore.

Anyway, all this is to say. If your fic is set at any point other than after A Ghost King Dressed Down, it’s very VERY unlikely for Hua Cheng to be in his true form outside of a fight. I don’t actually mind that much if you want to do it anyway haha, but I just realized it’s actually not on purpose for most people so. Just a reminder

I’m finally biting the bullet and contacting a therapist today after being ambivalent ab it for so long… this hellsite has its many disadvantages but one thing I can say is it has truly helped me be less scared of pursuing therapy. Silver lining etc etc

It was supposed to serve as a conduit for these feelings #And I’m not saying I don’t have a support system. I do. I have many wonderful friends #But I struggle to be vulnerable at all tbh and whenever I am I’m guilty ab it bc #I understand so many people have busy lives & I feel like an emotional burden on them by venting #Despite them telling me that it’s totally fine. Obvi a therapist is literally paid to listen so no guilt there #And I think that’s what I need #I’m not like on the brink of a psychotic break or anything but it’s just little things. I think it’d be nice to sit in someone’s office for #One hour a week and just go. That did bother me actually. I am tired actually. coming off their separation, he starts out trying his best to be unapologetic abt the choices he made when dean was gone. openly calling dean out when he makes him feel like shit (“you’ve been kicking me ever since you got back, but that’s over.”) insisting that he knows he wants a clean break and that it’s not actually his Responsibility to suffer for the rest of his life. refusing to let other hunters like martin talk down to him.

and then dean’s lies and hypocrisy abt benny, and dean’s fake SOS text from amelia, and sam breaking up with amelia bc with dean back in his life he doesn’t want to hurt her with his mess, and dean’s doubt over sam’s ability to complete the trials.

which all culminates in the state he’s in by the season finale - uncaring of whether he lives or dies bc he’s always been a burden to dean anyway and maybe if he’s the one to close the gates of hell it’ll make up for everything else he’s supposedly done wrong. “these trials, they’re purifying me.” / “you think I screw up everything I try - you think I need a chaperone, remember?”

Imagine you spend 20 years of your life in debt to an ultra-powerful organization because they say they can bring back the man you love, and it’s because you didn’t trust him. Now, imagine you find out after 20 years that the executives of the company you’ve been indebted to for all this time have been lying to you, and you’re not the only one who’s being used, just another mark for them to con. And then you find out that they can bring back the dead, but they’re turning the dead into revivified zombies created only to serve the company’s needs and to create more profit. And after ALL THAT. The man you love NOW, despite yourself, despite your responsibilities and the obligation you have to your past love, HE gets captured by the SAME EXECUTIVES because he insisted on helping you.
