Here is my list of things that bother me a lot as a dog trainer and someone who shows dogs (and my advice on how to avoid these things).
Number one: People who don’t research before they buy a dog. Researching is ESSENTIAL not only for knowing what breed you want but for knowing who to buy from. There are lots of backyard breeders out there, so be careful! My advice on avoiding buying from a backyard breeder: make connections. Hang out around dog shows, talk to people, explain your situation. Many people will be happy to help. You can also find certain online communities about the specific dog breed, especially on Reddit, and ask about breeders there. Also, make sure you really want to buy a dog. There are many benefits from adopting, and buying is not your only option, especially if you want a pet.
Number two: Buying someone a puppy as a surprise. Puppies are MASSIVE commitments. There is a 0% chance that a person who has done no research on puppies will raise a good tempered, well trained dog. At least let them get the dog on their own.
Number three: Not socializing a puppy. Puppies need to be socialized and desensitized. Otherwise, they can grow up to be aggressive or reactive.
Number four: Punishing a dog for going through fear periods. Puppies go through fear periods at 8-11 weeks and 6-14 months. Yes, your dog could behave different then. Yes, it could feel like your training is going backwards. It’s not their fault.
2) He has balls and sure wants to use them but we are waiting and seeing on health testing and such before we decide if he gets the ✂️
3) I took on a side gig as a trainer at his obedience school because I was there so much and so often that at some point the owner just got fed up and said ‘look just come teach here’. So now I teach puppy and basic obedience classes and Cloud gets to be my demo dog and show off all his Big Boy moves.
besides best in show (2000), the way that dog shows are portrayed in movies is so wild. they either act like it's a fashion show or a talent show or both??
why is there a panel of judges? why are they jumping thru hoops? why are they on a catwalk?? and why are you just standing there??? PRESENT UR DOG BRO
They were given out for Best of Breed, all breeds. Also given out at the Borzoi Nationals which was held in Philadelphia before it rotated regional wide.
