She definitely understood the concept of fairness, and had a VERY strong moral compass.

If she thought someone smaller was being bullied by someone bigger (e.g. if someone leaned too fast over someone who was sitting) she'd rush over to bark angrily at the "bully" until they apologized.

It didn't matter if the perceived bully was a member of her pack picking on an outsider, you'd get a stern talking-to anyway.

My fiance has 2 pets in his home. One is a cat that's lived a decade or so, and is the chonkist cat I've ever seen, despite being on a strict diet for months. The other is a tiny dog that sleeps in blanket igloos for warmth and is smaller than the cat. They both are opposite ends of the gaslight gatekeep girlboss spectrum. I love them both dearly.

She really disliked little kids (I think she was wary of them because they were so much bigger than her and, being young, their idea of gentle is still a bit rough).

But she never ever bit them and very clearly understood that mini humans needed to be treated differently from big humans. The worst she would do with little kids is grumble (somewhat loudly when she started going deaf) to herself in a grumpy displeased tone.

We got confirmation that she understood that kids should be treated differently when my then-4-year-old cousin came to visit from Brazil. My dog had been in a phase where she’d nip at people’s heels if they tried to run in the house, so we were a bit worried because 4-year-olds don’t know how to walk, only zoom. But when it came to my cousin and only my cousin she didn’t nip. Instead, she would playfully chase him around while he let out delighted little squeals.

By the time he left, they were best buddies.

^ My cousin even created a canine persona for when he was playing with her called Totó (both a little kid word for "doggy" and a generic dog name).

When she got a treat he'd sit down like a dog and pretend to whine for a treat too (we'd give him individual cheerios, if memory serves, lol)
