Warnings: Slight suggestiveness, kissing?, Indy is a simp really, and fluff
Indy loves kissing you.
He had the moment he first laid his lips on yours at the end of your third date on the porch of your home.
He loved every minute of it.
The way your hands were in his hair, the smile on your face as you leaned into him and kissed his cheek softly after pulling away, like it was the most natural thing in the world… He would always be grateful that he had the chance to kiss you.
When he does kiss you, he cherishes it, like the most precious gift he could ever receive. He thinks about how soft your lips are, like cotton candy, just waiting for him to take a bite. His fingers trace the curves of your face, memorizing every single one of them. He has memorized them already, but there is always something new.
He loves the feel of your arms wrapped around his shoulders and pulling him closer. He loves the warmth of your body against his, especially when your legs wrap around his waist as if it's a common occurrence. You’re so warm.
On other occasions, he'd be eager, hungrily, desperately, wanting to taste your mouth again and again and again. He’d want to devour you whole and never stop.
But right now, he just wants to stay where he is, pressed up against you, holding your hand and kissing you senselessly. You back against the wall, his hat tossed somewhere, landing on the floor, with the two of you still in each other’s arms, clinging to each other as if your life depended on it.
He presses his lips to your forehead, your cheeks, your jaw, then down your neck and collarbone. Your fingers dig into his back, nails scratching at his skin, marking a promise to a long night ahead of them.
Right now, he just wants to hold you forever.
To take you in his arms, and kiss you until you can’t breathe anymore. To make you forget everything except him and how much he loves you. To tell you all the things he hasn’t been able to say, all the things that have been weighing heavily on his heart since the day he met you.
He doesn’t know why the feeling is so overwhelming, but it is. It’s like something inside him has been crying out to see you again. To kiss you again. He feels like he has waited centuries for this, and maybe he has.
But in the end, kissing you, he feels weightless, like nothing matters anymore except the taste of your lips, your skin against his, your arms around his neck. Like no one else in the universe matters more than you.
That’s all he needs to know. Because no matter what happens, he knows that he will always come home to you after his adventures. You'll always be here for him. You'll always love him.
And that's enough.
You're his true treasure, the one he had always been searching for. The one that he finally found in his dreams, and in reality.
You loved kissing Indy.
It was like you died and went to heaven every time.
Your lips were soft and tasted like strawberries, and they moved perfectly against Indy's lips.
You craved his touch because Indy’s lips were softer than silk and made you dizzy. You wanted to run your hands through his hair, pull him closer, feel his strong muscles against yours, and hold him tight.
His hair was soft under your fingertips, silky smooth, and he smelled like cinnamon and vanilla from whatever shampoo he used.
He was so close to you, you could feel the steady beat of his heartbeat, which you felt against your chest. Every kiss sent chills running down your spine and made you giddy like you were drunk.
You didn't want to pull away, but you had to breathe; you needed air, and you couldn’t keep kissing him like this forever.
Indy pulled away reluctantly, but only slightly, his breath fanning over your face.
Then he looked at you with those gorgeous green eyes, and asked, “Can I ask you something?”
You giggled, “Sure, Indy.”
“Can I kiss you again?”
You sighed happily, “I’d love that.” Then you smiled, because the answer really wasn’t that hard, “You can, Indy. As many times as you want.” As Indy leaned forward, you pressed your pointer finger to his lips, pausing him. "But, only if I can do the same." You whispered.
Indy's face broke into a mischievous smirk, which seemed to stretch across half of his face, lighting up his entire being. He nodded eagerly and pressed his lips to yours in one swift motion.
You closed your eyes and melted into his embrace.
His hand stroked your hair gently, cupping the back of your neck, the other held your waist lightly, as if afraid that if he squeezed too tightly, you'd disappear into thin air.
And when he finally pulled away, his eyes locked on yours, a deep, contented sigh escaping his parted lips. He rested his forehead against yours, closing his eyes. “I love you."
You closed your own eyes, a content smile on your face, "I know."

Temple of the Forbidden Eye (2)
Indiana Jones x OC
Series Summary: The relationship between student and teacher is strictly professional, or at least it should be. He’s never met his match in archeological intelligence, and if he ever does, it might drive him to do something stupid.
A/n: The amount of people who actually read the first chapter veery much surprised me because Indy barely gets enough love anymore but bro I’m so happy y’all liked it and I love this man so I will fr try and update this more often.
Warnings: i don’t even know what counts as a warning for this series tbh… old fashioned ways of thinking i suppose??
(Co-written by the lovely @theatrelove3000 you guys should go give her a follow)

There was a warm wind that swept through her hair as she rounded the corner of the block. She looked back down at her note, tucked into the top of her book. This was in fact the correct street, but it looked so different than how she imagined. Her old mentor described the great Indiana Jones as the world’s most accomplished archeologist, and for all the daring and adventurous stories she’d been told, she couldn’t possibly imagine him living in a quaint neighborhood like this, all lined with picket fences and well maintained front lawns.
She read the mailboxes, seeing the iron letters hanging on each one, signifying each house’s address, finding the one next to the end of the cul-de-sac and checking the small paper slip once more to confirm that this was the right house. It was older looking, more warm and inviting than the others. It didn’t appear as perfectly manicured as the other cookie cutter houses. It looked lived in. Like a home. the corners of the walls had chipped paint, and water lines from rain.
Class today had gone the same as always, her professor hadn’t even stopped her on the way out, or in the hall as he was leaving the building. It was just another day for him, as it should be for her. She couldn’t help her nerves though, as she strode up to the front door, ready to knock. Hesitation was only momentary, as a deep breath was inhaled, and she laid three firm raps on the door.
While waiting for the occupant of the house to open said door, she turned and looked around her on the porch. There were some interesting looking plants that she didn’t recognize as being from this country, or any she’d heard of thus far. They must be exotic, small reminders of his work in the field. She smiled at the thought of his worldly travels, it all seemed so exciting, and she was enthralled to one day embark on such journeys.
Her head whipped back to the door as the old creaking hinges brought her back to reality. Still nervous, she was smiling wide, but her hands were shaking. Calm down, she had to think to herself. This is just a part of your work.
“Hi,” she said in a released breath, holding her hands together to quell their rapid movements. He gave a slight chuckle and smirked. She seemed far less confident here than in the classroom setting. Maybe when she was there she felt the need to prove herself. “I hope I’m not too late, I got a bit lost on the way.”
“You walked here?” he tilted his head, looking around behind her to see if there was at least someone to drop her off. Not a car in sight, or even another person for that matter. She was completely alone… which to him didn’t seem quite safe.
“Yes, I like walking places,” she mentally cursed herself for such a stupid sentence to come from her lips. She had been working for years to get here, she’d hoped it all wouldn’t be ruined by a few airheaded remarks. Professor Jones did not share the sentiment. Though he thought it sweet and endearing that she enjoyed something so simple as taking walks, he also saw the signs of her nerves the second he opened the door, and figured she’d be more calm once the work began inside.
“Well, you’re not late at all, in fact,” he held the door open for her to follow him in, shutting it behind her when her feet were on the hardwood floors. You took a moment to look around the entranceway before he stepped forward. “I just got everything set up in the office.”
You looked at the unique pieces in his living room, all from different cultures and dynasties. They were very interesting, but you noted that not one piece in the room was real, only a copy of something he had found in the past. He believed that all precious artifacts belonged in a museum, and he’d be damned if he went along in hypocrisy and kept a rare treasure for himself. That wasn’t part of his job, he didn’t take trophies.
“See something you like?” he noticed her slowing down behind him, only turning when in his peripheral she wasn’t there. He took in her studious look of curiosity, watching as she gazed from one item to another. “Bet you can’t tell which one is real.”
She looked at him with a surprised look. She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. Of all the days in her life to be flustered and speechless, this should not have been the day. She opted instead not to say a word, but to close her mouth and get closer to the pieces in the room. All she had to do was take into account one thing, and then she was sure.
“This map,” she pointed to it on the encasing table in the corner of the room, turning back to him with a straight face.
He nodded, seemingly impressed with how quickly she figured it out. Perhaps she had been earlier trained in detecting markings on old parchment, or maybe she’d learned how to differentiate aged ink from reprinting, she may have possibly even known the map from-
“It wasn’t that hard, it’s the only thing in here covered in glass.”
Well, so much for that. He supposed deductive reasoning was also a good skill, and she was quick on her heels to notice it so fast. He chuckled, smiling genuinely at her now confident and forward demeanor. She was very sure of herself, almost like that of his colleagues.
“Huh,” he shook his head, letting whatever thought that entered his mind to pass when he did. It wasn’t a bad thought, a very true one, actually. She used common sense to do something that every other student in his classroom would take hours to figure out. She was  intelligent in her studies, but she was also just smart. Possibly a gifted mind like his. He hoped he’d soon unravel all her hidden talents and abilities, as he knew she was already more than just a student in his class. She was dedicated, and confident in her studies like no other boy in his class had ever been.
“Something wrong?” She asked, her head tilted slightly as her brows furrowed in confusion. She didn’t know if he was impressed, or if she had upset him in some way. She knew better than to speak so plainly with a man in this field, but she couldn’t help but feel more comfortable to do so around his presence. The others would shoot her down, remind her of her place, but he had encouraged her, so why shouldn’t she?
“No, nothing’s wrong,” he shook his head, not sure if he should explain himself or not. It didn’t seem that important, and there was work to be done, so he continued down the hall again, calling out for her to come with him. “Follow me.”
As soon as she entered the room she was filled with a ghastly surprise. The sacred office and workspace of the great Indiana Jones, where he conducted business as well as studied ancient artifacts… was a complete mess. Papers in stacks all across the room, with folders opened to random pages and thrown half-hazardly in different spots. There were even large books, the texts in which broke down great historical landmarks, maps, and hidden treasures of the world. There wasn’t exactly a pattern to which they had been pulled from the shelves, as they didn’t seem to connect with one another at all.
Her face scrunched up with slight disgust, not expecting to see that her favorite professor was in fact, a slob.
“The plan is to find my paper on Degas Painting. I’ve already started organizing different reports into separate categories; and I think if we work for a few hours we can make some decent progress on finding it.”
He journeyed further into the room, careful not to step on any papers on the floor. She was still at a loss for words. It was only when he looked up and met her eyes that she had something to say.
“How can you work with such a mess around you?” She laughed, disbelief covered her expression, and he saw her mind turning the gears within her head. What was she thinking about?
“It may look that way to some, but I know where everything is.”
“Except for your paper on Degas Painting.”
-
Thirteen minutes. He had left her alone to search for only thirteen minutes. There was an important phone call that he simply couldn’t miss, and it lasted for a duration of thirteen minutes. How in that time could she have managed to do this? When he hung up the phone, he walked back into the room, assuming she’d be right where he left her. No, she was not, and how could he have been so foolish as to think that the most intelligent student in his very prestigious class would have sat there clueless without him?
His eyes were wide, and his jaw was nearly slack as he scanned the room. Not only were all the papers filed away in their respective folders, but they were organized on the desk. Every little thing had been put away, he assumed in orderly fashion. Hell, he took a few steps into the room and saw the paper he was looking for laying by itself on the desk. The bolded letters ‘Degas Painting’ in black ink were clear as day. He’d been searching for it for days, going through stacks and stacks of files to try and recover it for his class. He looked up to you in the corner, scanning the bookshelves as you placed books back where they went. The most noticeable thing he saw? His hat had been removed from his desk, and she wore it on her head. He had half a mind to walk across the floor and take it back, without even saying a word.
He wasn’t angry, but somewhat irritated that she’d moved all his things, which he’d spent days looking through. He also found it somewhat annoying that his new apprentice was already better at the job than he was. But she’s never been in the field, he reminds himself.
He huffed a long breath, placing his hands on his hips as he narrowed his eyes at her. She finally turned around, having seen that he came back, and there was a sweet smile laid widely across her face. She was clearly proud of the work she had accomplished, and he’d hate to negate the good work, but there was still the matter of his prized high-crowned sable fedora.
“That’s my hat,” he pointed to it, his tone more firm, but not aggressive. She would moreso describe it as possessive.
She was quick to take it off of her head, holding it gently within her hands in an attempt to ease his mind.
“I’m sorry,” she suddenly felt the need to explain herself, looking around the room in an attempt to avoid looking at him. He got this upset over a hat? “It’s just that, it took up space on the desk, and I didn’t really know where to move it.”
He came up to where she stood, snatching away the hat and placing it on his own head. It wasn’t done spitefully, in fact, she almost laughed at the comedic way he adjusted it after. He must really like his hat, it seemed like his most important possession. He wore it well, she noted that right away.
“You found the paper,” he crossed his arms, nodding slightly to her in thanks, but not giving too much recognition away. “And you cleaned my office.”
She wasn’t sure if he was still upset about the hat, or if he was genuinely offended by the fact that she had gone outside of her instruction and done what she wanted. She’d hoped he might be pleased with her efforts, but of course, she was probably just assuming too much of her favorite professor… again.
“I promise I put everything away as it was organized, I even put the books back in alphabetical order,” She defended, walking two steps back to the bookshelf and letting him see for himself. This was the best his office had looked in years, with everything being in perfect order like he’d never gotten around to maintaining it before. “I’m sorry that I didn’t ask, I just thought that it might be easier for you-”
“You did good, kid,” he smirked, getting her to stop her mindless rambling. His small nod of approval made her smile, her nerves fading away again as her chest filled with pride.
He thought she had done good, and with that she was pleased.
-
The small sofa against the wall of his office was practically sunken in by how long the weight had been placed upon the cushions. It had been many, many hours since they sat down to go through the paper and yet neither of them seemed to notice. The sun had gone down ages ago and they had needed to turn on lamps to continue.
At some point in the evening, she had gotten hungry. When she asked if he had something to eat, he responded, "I eat when the work is done." Which… wasn't very comforting as given the state of his office when she arrived, he was clearly never 'done working.'
Professor Jones had given her permission to go check his kitchen to find some food, but his kitchen was arguably worse than his office. It was perfectly clean, that wasn't the problem. The problem was the lack of food he has. He has a total of three cans of soup, one half of a loaf of sliced bread and a jar of peanut butter.
"Professor?"
He hummed in acknowledgement, not looking up, though she required his attention.
"Are you dead? Or… undead or something?"
That got his attention, "Um… what?"
"Undead. Are you actually alive?"
Doctor Jones was genuinely baffled for a second or two. He’d been surprised by her antics nearly all day, and yet, there was still more to her that came with every word she said. Her joking tone obviously indicated she was mocking him for something, but he was unsure of the reason this time around.
"You're not making any sense,” he paused, finally glancing up from his work to respond with effort. “What are you even talking about?" He sounds a little annoyed now..
"You have nothing to eat," she says, gesturing in the direction of the kitchen. She was sure he’d known this, or at least hoped he did, otherwise her jokes of the ‘undead professor’ may not seem so far-fetched.
"Sure I do."
Lies. She searched high and low in every cabinet and corner of that kitchen. It wasn’t hard to deduce that there wasn’t anything there. It was quite clear to anyone with a half decent set of eyes.
"No, actually… You don't. You don't have any food. So are you?"
He rolled his eyes, but knew she was probably right. He never went into that kitchen, and barely even remembered to shop for food on a regular basis. He’d always get food from the cafeteria of the University, or better yet, any new place he found on the walk home that looked suitable to his picky taste.
"Miss Ledger-"
"I know that you said you don't eat until the work is done, but based on the state of your kitchen, I'm assuming that you just don't eat… Ever," she crossed her arms, trying to think of how he could possibly get along on his own. He didn’t seem to be married, or have a roommate, and she highly doubted he found himself in the company of his peers while at home.
He huffed a bit and tossed the paper on the coffee table in front of him. He looks over at Scarlett, watching her for a moment. She's more… for lack of a better word, mouthy than most women he's met. It's actually nice. Refreshing, even. Not even the male students he's worked with would speak to him like this. It's clear that she knows her value and is happy to be herself, even around authority. Though sometimes annoying, especially right now, he would do his best to encourage that the attitude stays the same, as it would do well for her if she were to continue in this industry.
"Yes, I do eat. No, I'm not an undead individual. More often than not, I get food in a restaurant or at school. I don't go shopping for it very often," His tone is calm, though dripping with sarcasm at the beginning, "If you are that hungry, I can go get something, but I'm about ninety percent sure there is at least a can of soup in there."
"So you only eat soup when you're at home?"
It was funny to try and imagine him, the world renowned Professor Jones, hovering over a small pot at the stove whilst he stirred a batch of soup from a can in his pantry. She didn’t know why, but it amused her.
"Or a sandwich."
"Yes, because that's so much better," Her tone matched his, impressing him yet again. There were few people in the world that could keep up with his wit and never-ending sarcasm. She reminded him of himself, so much it almost frightened him.
He sighed a little. Dropping his head to hide the smile, he shakes his head slightly. "I'll eat if you make enough for both of us, since it bothers you so much."
She was almost satisfied… but there was still one fact of the matter that continued to reign true.
"That still leaves the problem of you having no food," her pointed look was enough to make him smirk. He really was impressed with her demeanor. She was relentless, now that she’d been given his approval. He wondered if she would be so forward now, if he had been so reassuring to her efforts before.
"Just make the soup, there's enough in there. I know that for a fact."
She huffs and turns on her heel, calling over her shoulder, "fine. But I'm going to make you go grocery shopping so you have at least something with protein to eat."
He laughs quietly, going back to his work. When she returns, she has a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a piece of bread for each of them. They continue to work while they eat, and though the silence is deafening, it’s comfortable, and welcomed.
A few hours later, he catches a movement out of the corner of his eye. She was resting with her head in her hand, arm propped up on the back of the sofa. He turns back to the paper but she moves again. He turns to look at her fully this time and notices her eyes are half closed. Interesting. The movement he was seeing was her nodding off and waking herself back up. He wondered if he had kept her for too long, or if she might be upset that there was so much work to be done. He thought about how dedicated she was, though, and knew she was probably just tired from a long day of work.
Turning back to look at the clock across the room, he realized what time it was. As he went to wake her up, he remembered that she had walked there. He may live in a better neighborhood but that didn’t mean it was safe for a young woman to walk alone at night, and he didn’t have a clue as to where she might live. After thinking about his options for a moment, and taking stock of his own wakefulness, he decided that it was too late for him to drive her home. He set the papers he was holding down, and leaned over to take the ones she had out of her hand. The feeling of papers falling woke her again and she tried to tighten her hold on them, but they were already in her professor's grasp.
“I have a guest room. I’ll walk you up there. Do you need something more comfortable to sleep in?” His voice sounded raspy and tired, even to his own ears. His offer was rushed out, and hadn’t been thought through completely, but she understood well enough in her dreary state.
“I’m sorry, what’s happening?” She reaches up to rub the sleep out of her eyes, sitting up straight again. The sweet and quiet tone she held was such a contrast to her bellaring complaints of his lack of food from earlier. It made him smile to see yet another side of his favorite student. He’d realized by now that she was.
“You are dozing. It’s too late for me to, in good conscience, allow you to walk home alone and I am not in any state to drive you. You are going to stay here for the night.”
As harsh as it sounded, he was right. It wasn’t safe, nor was it in her best interest to even leave the walls of this house at this hour. She, of course, had other thoughts on the matter, having walked home in far worse conditions before, though it was foolish in anyone’s book.
“Oh- No, Professor, it’s alright. I don't mind going home, I don't want to intrude."
"You aren't intruding. I'm offering,” he insisted, taking the papers she tried to retrieve from the table. It was by far the time to call it a night.
"Professor-" She seemed mildly uncomfortable at his suggestion, though it was more of a demand. He doesn’t want anything from her and she could tell based on his demeanor. He just wanted her to be safe and get a decent night's rest. There was no harm in it by any means, but based on how it might look in the eyes of others, she still had to think it through. These may be modern times but there were societal norms and expectations. A young woman staying the night in her professor’s house would not be considered acceptable by any means.
"Miss Ledger, have you ever heard the phrase 'nothing good ever happens after two a.m.?'" He asked with a slanted look on his face, brows raised in suspicion. He made it up on the spot, but still asked for the heck of it, and to hopefully lead her to agree with him faster.
"No but-"
"In my experience, it's very true. It's now two-thirty.You're staying here,” The tone of finality in his voice was more than clear. He wasn’t going to back down and gave no other option than for her to agree. He wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing he allowed his best student to walk across town in the middle of the night, while barely keeping her eyes open from the exhaustion that weighed on her shoulders.
She looked at him, then at the clock, and with a heave of her shoulders, she’d decided it was probably best that she stay where it is guaranteed she will be safe. He was renowned worldwide for being a grand explorer, surely he was a better option than the streets after midnight.
“Alright,” she conceded, nodding to him firmly. He noticed she seemed more comfortable now that the subject was put to rest.
“Thank you. I don’t have the energy to argue with you about your own safety right now,” He smiles gently and stands up off the sofa, offering his hand to help her up. His smile, even in her barely awake state of mind, was warm and genuine. She didn’t think he could smile like that, as she’d witnessed too many smirks and side eyes from the man in the last several hours to consider it as a possibility.
She smiled back and took his hand. “To be entirely honest, neither do I.”
That made him grin. He likes her, more than he would care to admit. She not only reminded him of himself, but also offered opposite attributes. He couldn’t wait to work alongside her on a project, for he felt their personalities and skills would compliment the other perfectly.
Gesturing with his arm for her to go first, he let her walk out of his office then led her through the house. He opened the door to the guest bedroom, which she saw was perfectly clean, if not a little dusty. He leaves her for just a moment and comes back with an old shirt and pair of sleep pants he hadn’t worn in a long time. He gives directions to the restroom before bidding her goodnight and heading to bed himself.
When he woke up the next morning, he had hoped to bid her a good day, but the door to the guest room was open, and peeking in, he saw no sign of her, but the bed was perfectly made and the clothes he gave her were folded and sitting on the end. She had even dusted off the surfaces.
He was only slightly upset to find that she had left so early, for the signs of her being there were clear, and he felt he could get accustomed to the look of it.

Warning: This Could Spoil Blackbeard's Secret & Final Devil Fruit (I'm Serious) Road to Final Saga!
comments on youtube
If Davy Jones and Joyboy existed around the same time, maybe the first Davy Back fight was between their crews, where Davy won Zunesha and used it to commit some sort of atrocity, possibly even killing Joyboy or the mermaid princess of that time. The Lunarians (or some other god or god-like figure) cursed Zunesha for this act not knowing it was ordered to by its new master, only thinking it had gone insane. I spotted one flaw in your logic, Sawyer - when you talked about West Indian and use it to mean West of India. The West Indies are a group of Caribbean island nations that have no real relation to India (they've had a lot of Indian immigrants over the years though), they were named West Indies because Columbus was a dumbass and thought he'd reached India when he got to Hispanola. The word Duffy (or Duppy) is of a Caribbean patois, not from an Indian language (I can't think of a Hindi word for ghost or spirit that could be bastardized into Duffy/Duppy at all). That fact about the spider lily 'dying' and then coming back to life is interesting. If Blackbeard's first fruit is a zoan plant fruit (and we may be getting another one introduced now with Aramaki) model: spider lily, it could allow for eating more than one fruit because the user 'dies' so the soul of the previous fruit disappears but the lineage factor is still in the body. And then the body comes back to life keeping the ability of the fruit without its 'soul'. In theory this would mean Blackbeard could eat multiple fruits though, not just three. But it would also explain why he might not want Kaido's fruit, he doesn't want/need another zoan because zoans have a stronger, more complete soul in them compared to logia and paramecia types. Essentially I'm thinking this spider lily fruit is something like All For One from MHA, but with restrictions and themes to fit the One Piece world.
The Flower thing is why we know Law is gonna die before the series ends because his flower in real life wilts before the dawn.
Dutchman's pipe cactus
You say Blackbeard was scared of death, but; - He wasn't scared to attack Impel Down and face Magellan, Shiryu etc - He wasn't scared to betray the Government in front of Marines and throw his Shichibukai title to garbage - He wasn't scared to try to steal the second DF power which could kill any person
It really doesn't make sense that he is scared of death and does those things at the same time.
I think what happened with Whitebeard is that he probably tried to trick him playing the 'son' role for the last time, but it didn't work, then killed him, he could call his crew earlier but he didn't, why? Why he didn't call his crew to kill Whitebeard, instead of begging? Blackbeard was laughing in the next page.

Mondo Purchased From Alamo Drafthouse by Funko
Tumblr media
Well, this is a hell of a thing to dig into first thing Monday morning.
Enough that I had to dust off the blog.
Let’s get into the key snippets…
Variety:
Funko is popping cult-fave pop-culture brand Mondo into its merch mix.
Under a deal with indie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse, Funko acquired Mondo, which creates and sells vinyl records and soundtracks, posters, toys, apparel, books, games and other collectibles. About 30 Mondo employees are joining Funko.
Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed, but it’s obviously not massive. Funko says it does not expect the Mondo acquisition to have a material impact on its financial performance in 2022.
Alamo Drafthouse:
Driven by passion, Mondo’s core team of creatives transformed that small ticket booth into something none of us could have ever imagined. Nineteen years into the journey, I look back at the amazing body of work that Mondo has created in posters, soundtracks, and collectibles and am truly in awe. I couldn’t be more proud of the amazing team that has over and over again set a staggeringly high bar for imagination, quality, and beauty.
That said, the past two years have been brutal and harrowing at Alamo and Mondo. We filed bankruptcy and thankfully emerged from COVID in fighting shape, ready to continue our mission of being the best damn cinema that has ever or will ever exist. While we were closed, however, Mondo was our saving grace, the only facet of our business that kept the lights on.
Now, with the dark days behind us and each weekend bringing box office successes, Alamo is seizing opportunities to grow our cinema footprint with seven new locations across the country that have been announced recently and more to come. As the company resources are focused on this growth, we realized that perhaps a bold and exciting new chapter is about to begin for Mondo.
Over the past few months, we searched exhaustively to find a perfect partner who saw what was unique and special about Mondo and was in a position to meaningfully invest in Mondo, nurture the team, and further its reach and vision. Funko is exactly that unicorn.
The team that made Mondo amazing is staying together, making the transition to Funko, and will continue their same work with the same creative vision. I am super excited about the future plans I know about, and I’m sure I will soon marvel at the work that is not yet even a lightbulb spark.
Mondo:
For 20 years, we have poured our heart and souls into this weird little thing that Rob Jones and Tim League started in a closet in the corner of an Alamo Drafthouse lobby… then out of a closet underneath the seats of a Drafthouse auditorium (seriously). Eventually, we opened our own gallery space, and even started our own convention.
We have always loved following our passions and doing things our own way, and we’ll be forever thankful to the Alamo Drafthouse for supporting those passions and helping us grow into what we are today. But we needed a bigger boat… and that’s where Funko comes in. They understand what Mondo is today and are eager to help us become the company we want to be.
From the outside, Mondo might seem like it is changing… but on the inside much is staying the same. We remain the same team, and our goals remain unchanged. We are still the same bunch of weirdos who share an undying obsession with popular (and maybe less popular) culture, and a craving to make cool stuff with the best artists in the world.
Lord knows I’ve spent enough of the past 14 years on this site worshiping the creations of the team at Mondo, so I had to dig in.
At its core, this isn’t a horrible pairing. Mondo lives and dies by their ability to get licenses, Funko has all the licenses.
The bigger concern is one of quality control. Funko is a very mass produced product. Mondo is not. Mondo is an artisan celebration of pop culture, with each artist selected and chosen specifically as a pairing.
Will this be able to remain the status quo with this purchase? My cynical side says no, but I’m very willing (if not wanting) to be wrong.
Let’s see how this plays out.

Sunset Sound: God is Dead?
I might start updating twice a week because I am writing this story at BREAKNECK speed. this is my favorite chapter so far. enjoy! (special thanks to @friedchickenangelwings once again for sticking with me and my incessant rambling about this story at all hours during holidays)
Fic Summary:  Everything is the same up to the end of 15x20. Chuck has been “defeated,” but it was all a farce. When Jack absorbed Chuck, Chuck easily took over the 3 year old’s body and acted as if he were defeated. Chuck!Jack then had the Rusty Nail placed in the barn where Dean died, and with Cas gone, Dean didn’t fight it. Chuck did reimagine Heaven, but he’s fed the same lie to them all: that everything is perfect, they are free, they are in real paradise. Except it’s all an illusion insulated by blue skies and endless horizons. Because, just like the Good Place, people make Heaven into Hell for each other. And there’s nothing Chuck loves more than the natural order of tragedy. He “let it slip” to Bobby that he brought Cas back, when he really left him to rot in the Empty. Dean has to find his best friend before it’s too late, and he has to keep a happy face for everyone else, because Chuck is watching. Always watching.
“You know?” Dean shakes his head. “What’s going on?”
Charlie leans back against the bar. “Well, after Ash and I found each other-” they give a cute little nod of the head in sync, dorks, “through the frankly shitty wifi they’ve got up here, we got to talking.”
“Yeah, we realized some shit just didn’t add up. Like angel radio.” Ash spins around and ducks into his backroom, coming back with a laptop that’s way more advanced than it was last time. Dean raises his eyebrows at it. “Yeah, man, it’s sick, right? Charlie upgraded my systems, it’s bitchin’.” he reaches past Dean’s shoulder to give Charlie a fist bump (enthusiastically returned) and Dean backs off.
“Yeah, bitchin’,” Dean repeats with a grin. He’s too dumb for these people. But he sure is glad they’re on his side.  “Well, hey, show me whatcha got.”
Ash nods and taps his temple. He mutters to himself and pulls the system toward him while Dean watches anxiously. Ash pauses and looks at him. “Dude. Gimme a second? This setup is a lil’ more complicated than your blackberry.”
Dean snorts and gives him space, followed by Charlie. “Dude. you’ve been dead too long. Blackberrys haven’t existed for like… ten years.”
Ash gives him a genial middle finger and Dean grins. Charlie sits up on the pool table and Dean leans against it next to her. “Listen, Charlie, I gotta. I gotta say sorry, again, for…” He clears his throat.
“Dying?” Charlie asks lightly.
“Uh, yeah.”
“Not your fault, Dean.” She shrugs, and she actually manages to look cheerful. Damn, Dean loves this chick. She puts her hand on his shoulder and shakes her head. “Seriously, Dean. Let it go! I have! Seriously, I got to spend a few years with my high school girlfriend watching Lord of the Rings - she was a cheerleader - and sneaking out to design some fucking world-altering programs with Ash! Being dead, for me, it’s kinda amazing.” She smiles at him. “Guessing you don’t feel the same though, huh?”
Dean swallows. He doesn’t know how much he wants to say about that, but being dead… it definitely sucks. And not in the good way. “Guess it just feels like I got more to do. Now, at least.” Now that Cas is… and heaven is…
Charlie looks like she doesn’t know what to say. Luckily, they’re interrupted before she has to think of something.
“Eyo! Sorry, amigos,” he leans over backwards to look at them. “Found it.”
Charlie jumps off the table and grabs Dean’s hand. After a few steps she shoves him with her shoulder until he bumps into Ash’s back. Dean bounces off his soft form and clears his throat. “Sorry,” he mutters, throwing a death glare back at his surrogate sister. She flashes him a smug grin before focusing back on the computer screen.
Ash recovers from getting jostled in time to point. “Yeah, so, we got word on Angel FM that this Jack kid is goin’ real Jim Jones over here.” He holds a finger up at several paragraphs as he’s flipping through them. “Preachin’ all kinda love and peace and hippy commune shit, but if somebody even questions it, he snaps. Naomi no-likey,” He smirks up at Dean and points to a group of cuss-words even Dean barely uses. “Rough translation.”
Dean shakes his head. “That doesn’t sound like Jack.” Jack, especially Jack-with-a-soul, almost never got mad. I mean, he’d spent quality time with Lucifer without blowing up. The kid is level-headed to a fault. “Anything else?”
Ash frowns at him. “Y’know, going through angels’ personal phone calls is a lotta work.”
Dean rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, you’re a genius. Got anything else?”
“Ash, what about the human rumors?”
Ash looks at Charlie and they have a silent battle of wills, but Dean’s too impatient to see who wins. “What human rumors?”
They pause and come to an agreement. “Fighting. People fighting. Couples. Families. Friends. All over, since the reboot. People are happy, but… it’s like earth. People can talk - people can fight.”
“And?” Dean raises his eyebrows. There’s something they’re not telling him, and he thinks he knows what.
Ash raises them right back. He’s not about to divulge. “Hombre, this ain’t earth. People are supposed to be happy. If they ain’t… like a glitch in the matrix, y’know?
Dean grunts. “Anything else weird on the radio? Anything at all.”
Ash’s sigh sounds labored. He leans back in his chair and wobbles, obviously sorting through all the enochian bullshit he’s read over the past… whenever. “Meh… I got… I don’t know, God was singing?”
“Singing? Singing what?” Dean leans in, intent. If it was Taylor Swift, Beyonce, maybe Lizzo…
Ash cocks an eyebrow. “Folk shit. Indie music.”
That’s what Dean was afraid of. “Shit.”
“Why? What does that mean?” Charlie grabs onto his arm.
Dean’s worst fears, that’s what. “It means that ain’t my kid. It’s Chuck.”
“Who the hell is that?” Ash stands up as Dean walks away, cursing every stupid atom that had decided to make this dumb universe. Although, he guesses, that was Chuck’s purview too.
“He’s god! God before the reboot I mean, the dick who up and left and only came back to screw me and Sam over. Fuck, I thought we’d finally gotten out from under his thumb! Now, apparently, he’s just using my kid for his meat-suit.” Dean takes a deep breath. This is bad. Worse than bad-bad.
“So… what do we do? How do we nuke God?” Charlie asks the question like it’s normal, just another Saturday afternoon.
Dean thumps his forehead onto the nearest table. Sure, sure, good, great. They were back to square fucking one. “I don’t fucking know,”
“Alright, break it down. We need more mojo, right? How do we get more mojo?”
“Well, angels are the next best thing, right? Maybe if we get them all together, they’re obviously not psyched about folk-God, or whatever,”
Ash points at her like she’s a genius. “Alright, yeah!”
“Guys, there aren’t enough angels left to even try.” Dean feels hopeless. There’s nothing to do. They are literally out of options. There’s no hope.
“Well, where can we get some more angels, then?”
Dean stands up. “I know a place.” His heart feels like it’s being squeezed like a lemon. It’s a crazy idea. It’s practically impossible. And probably suicide. And he’s gotta find a way. “We gotta break open the Empty.”
“The Empty?” Ash looks skeptical. Dean smirks.
“Yeah, angel/demon afterlife. We punch our way in there and we’ve got juice for days, man.” He spreads his arms out, asks the question.
Ash glances at Charlie then back at Dean. He sniffs and nods. “I’m in.”
Dean looks to Charlie, who scoffs. “Duh. Of course. So what, we get in and say pretty please help us kill your dad?”
A warm feeling spreads through Dean’s chest. “Well, we’ll have a little help on the inside. Cas.”
“Castiel? The angel dude?”
“He’s dead?” Charlie’s voice has much more concern than Ash’s. Dean nods in response to both questions. It still makes him feel like he’s swallowing glass to think about it. “What happened?”
Dean looks down at his boots. It’s only the scene that keeps playing on repeat behind his eyelids. Cas crying, holding onto his shoulder, telling him… telling him goodbye. Telling him that. “He saved me.” he starts, expression guarded. “He made a deal.”
Ash grunts and nods, ready to drop it. Charlie stays quiet too, but she clearly wants to say something. Dean’s thankful for the drop. He doesn’t know what he’d say if they asked more. All he knows is that he needs Cas back. And he needs to talk to him. He needs to tell him that - that he wants him to just stay fucking put, damn it. That he needs to stop dying on him. And that he can’t just go and say something like that and then leave. It’s a bitch-ass move.
“Yo, Deano?”
Dean jerks his head back up. “Yeah. Sorry.”
“How do we jail-break ‘em?”
“Guessing we’re gonna need some serious magic shit. And since we can’t get to Rowena…”
Ash breaks into a wide grin. “Pamela? I’ll give her a call.”
Pamela is “busy,” so they have to wait for her to finish up with Jesse before she can come by. Dean has to hand it to her, it’s just about the most Pamela thing in the world to put off their realms-saving work for a heavenly hookup. Dean hangs around talking for a bit, filling his friends in on the latest on Earth, but he can’t concentrate. Ever since they’d decided the next thing is to get into the Empty, he can’t relax. He takes his beer and goes outside to wait, settling down on the Roadhouse’s front step to watch for Pamela.
After a bit, Charlie plops down next to him, a soft grin on her lips. He returns it half-heartedly before looking out across the clearing. She leans her head against his shoulder. A few minutes pass in comfortable silence before she turns into him. “So we gotta get into the Empty.” she sighs. Dean nods glumly. Just his fucking luck. Even heaven is ruined. But at least… at least they’ve got a shot. “And get Castiel.”
Dean frowns and pulls away to look at her. Maybe it’s just his paranoia, but he hears some deeper meaning in her voice. “The guy died for me. I gotta,” he presses his lips together, hating himself for the half-lie he’s telling. Cas deserves better. Charlie just nods and watches, like she’s waiting for him to keep going. When he manages to talk again, his voice cracks. “We gotta get him, Charlie.”
Charlie pulls him into a side hug. “I always said he was dreamy, that angel.” She points out. Dean snorts. He remembers. He’d blushed like an idiot after she said that the first time.
“Yeah.” He mutters. Okay, so she knows. That he and Cas are… that Dean’s… good. Cas deserves recognition. He deserves someone to talk about him. For Dean to talk about him. But then Charlie just hasn’t spoken, and he feels like he needs some explanation. “I… there were other guys, before him.” He continues, clearing his throat. His mind wanders to Benny and Lee, Crowley. “But he’s… he’s it.”
He risks a look at Charlie and she is just staring at him with a fond smile. She surges forward and kisses his cheek, squealing. “Yes, I fucking knew it, you bisexual dumbass! Bi, right?”
Dean laughs. “Yeah, I guess- wait, you knew?”
Charlie looks around, like Dean’s a dumbass it was so obvious. “Well, yeah, dude. Game recognize game.” She motions between the two of them and he scoffs. That’s right. Gaydar. That would’ve been nice to have for the last, oh, 12 years? “We’ll get him back.”
Dean pulls Charlie in for another hug and leaves her tucked under his arm until a motorcycle pulls up and Pamela gets off, shaking her hair loose like a blind slow-motion model in a porno. She grins at the pair on the steps like she can see them. “Take a picture, you two. It’ll last longer.”
“How did you-”
She throws a hand out in dismissal. “Please, I can feel ogling from a mile away.” She pauses, laughing at the embarrassed silence Charlie and Dean are sporting. “Nah, I’m just joking. I do the hair-shake for a reason. I deserve a good stare. Hell, it’s half the reason I own this motorcycle.” She throws her helmet in the general direction of the motorcycle and greets her friends. Dean can’t decide whose hug is more flirty, his or Charlie’s.
“Alright, bitches. Let’s séance some shit.”

Headcanons with the Allies
Hello! Very sorry for not being able to write anything for a while. School had started, and I wanted to make sure I focused my attention on it.  Anyways, besides that, here are some headcanons for the allies, but it’s pretty much just how I will write them.
-----
America
--
Name - Alfred F. Jones
Age - 20
Height -  180 cm, 5’11
General Information -
Alfred is a charming guy who’s down for a lot of things (he probably wouldn’t be into many illegal things, though). He’s rather hyper, to say the least, and due to this, he’s often found doing random things without much reason. His imagination is probably… a bit questionable, to say the least, but there’s nothing bad with it, he’s just creative with this thinking.
Some of Alfie’s favorite music genres would have to be Alt Rock, Jazz, and Country, but he’s down to listen to anything, to be fair. You could probably see him volunteering at animal shelters and donating to food banks and the sorts, he’s truly a helpful guy. Even though he’s very adventurous and would do a lot of thing, he also enjoys some peaceful time to himself. Maybe he would listen to some smooth jazz whist reading a book or cook a 5-course meal for no reason. Even though he is very childish, he can get serious if he needs to be.
-----
England
--
Name - Arthur J. Kirkland
Age - 26
Height - 172 cm, 5’8
General Information -
Arthur is generally a pretty grouchy and reserved guy, but once he meets someone he wants to become friends with (or something more), he will generally pick up on traits that the other person may like, and would become a lot more open. At times, he can become quite depressed, but he usually copes with listening to music and other ways of expressing emotions. He’s picked up painting from this, and is actually quite the artist.
Arthur’s taste in music definitely fluctuates depending on how he’s feeling. Sometimes his favorite genre is Punk, the next day it would be Classical, and the week after that it would be Metal. He usually likes to stick around Classic Rock, though, and he absolutely cannot stand Pop, but every so often he’ll find a pop song he likes and he would listen to it on repeat for days on end. He is very open with his love for Punk culture, and he often dresses Punk (He would wear more chains but he can’t really find any). He’s down to do a lot of things (yes, even if they’re illegal), and likes the thrill of doing what he wants, when he wants.
-----
France
--
Name - Francis M. Bonnefoy
Age -  28
Height - 175 cm, 5’9
General Information -
Francis is very outgoing, and could easily carry on a conversation with someone shy or introverted. He generally gives off some great vibes, and tends to brighten up the room wherever he goes. He’s great at joking around, and in general is someone great to be around. If you had trouble with someone? He would be there to give you advice on how to approach the situation. If you had a toxic friend? They will not be spared when it comes to his words and the insults he would throw at them.
Like Arthur, his taste in music seems to change regularly, but his all-time favorite genre would definitely be indie-pop. He doesn’t make it very known, but he would definitely sing along to Britney Spears or Taylor Swift if he was home alone. He absolutely LOVES 2000’s pop and he probably has several fan pages for the top pop artists from back then.
-----
Russia
--
Name - Ivan Braginsky
Age - 25
Height - 193 cm, 6’4
General Information -
Ivan is a very nice guy but can seem a bit intimidating at first. He often scares off people, but once he meets someone who isn’t scared, he will admire that person for as long as he knows them. He gets very protective over people he is friends with, but if they said they didn’t want him to be so protective, he would tame it down a bit and simply send death glares who look like they would do something to his dear friend.
With his music taste, I can see him listening to Sovietwave and Classical music the most. It may not seem like it, but he is very talented when it comes to writing, especially poetry and lyrics. It may not seem like much, but he makes sure there is meaning to every single word, no matter what he is writing. He has published several books, all under different names. Almost all of them had received great reviews, and each and every book has quite the following. With these books, the people who enjoyed reading it often go to try to find out who the actual author is. They’ve gotten close to finding out who the author to these books are, but they have not found him yet.
-----
China
--
Name - Yao Wang
Age - 34
Height -  165 cm, 5’5
General Information -
Yao is usually very calm and laid back when it comes to dealing with things. When he needs to be serious, he will be serious, but often times, this does not happen. At this point in his life, he’s just chilling out and doing what he wants to do, and currently that is gardening. He has a very large and well maintained garden that has many flowers native to his country (he refuses to plant any invasive species or flowers that could grow out of control). He grows his own vegetables as well and often cooks with them, and the dishes he makes are some of the best things you’ll ever taste.
With his music taste, he doesn’t usually listen to music that often. He would much rather listen to the sounds of nature, but if someone were to play music, he would not really mind it that much. Just like Ivan, he is an extremely great writer, and has published a few books. And like Arthur, he is also a great artist. Overall, he is great at a lot of things, but he doesn’t really like to show off these sorts of skills. One thing he will show off, however, is how skilled he is with several musical instruments.
-----
Canada
--
Name - Mattieu Williams
Age - 20
Height - 187 cm, 6’2
General Information -
Mattieu is a very tough guy, but he also has a bit of a softer side. He’s a very funny dude to be around but is very shy at first, but after a while, he will open up and can easily start up conversations. Due to him living pretty far north, sometimes his house will get snowed in, and he doesn’t really have anything to do. Because of this, he’s taken a lot of time to learn card tricks and has also learned how to make delicious snacks without water, a stove, or anything else.
With his music taste, he doesn’t listen to much, and just like Yao, would much rather listen to the sounds of nature. If he had to choose a type of music to listen to, he wouldn’t really mind what it is. He would just like to listen to music that doesn’t sound like the songs you would hear every day on the radio. Going back to him being snowed in from time to time, he also really enjoys building miniature versions of large cities around the world, and they are all done in fine detail.
-----
Well, that’s all that for now! I plan to post a version with the axis tomorrow, and a version with the Nordics + the Baltics after that.
Make sure to request stories and such!

Love Down the Line: Chapter 2
The last thing Indie musician Emma Swan needs is a gigantic wrench thrown in the workings of her biggest tour to date weeks before its launch.  When her backing guitarist that caused the problem says she has the perfect solution Emma is skeptical but left with little choice but to accept.  Unfortunately she isn't really prepared for said solution to be former Rock Star and leading man of Emma's teenage fantasies, Killian Jones.  With no other options and a month of performing across the country ahead of her Emma just hopes she doesn't come to regret letting Killian onto her stage and into her life.
Ch 1, AO3
~*CS*~
Portland, Maine- April 10th
Emma hadn’t intended to be late to rehearsal.  In fact, she wanted to be early to get a step up on Jones.  She figured just because she was doing Ruby a favor didn’t mean she couldn’t exert a little pressure on the guy at the same time.  By the end of a tour she was usually ready to kick everyone off the bus and finish the damn shows herself and she was good friends with Ruby and the others in the backing band.  Jones had to more than prove himself to her during the rehearsal turned audition.  He had to blow it out of the water.
Of course, that had been before she was the one showing up almost forty minutes late.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit,” she huffed under her breath as she ran across the parking lot, the guitar strapped across her back knocking her in the ass with every step.
“You’re late Miss Swan.”
Emma grimaced at the sound of her manager, Regina Mills’, voice.  The woman was scary on a normal day with her custom designer suits, red soled stilettos, and three hundred dollar haircuts that made sure not a single dark hair was out of place, or grey.  She was holding open the door for her with a look of extreme annoyance or impatience or disappointment.  It could have been all three but Emma blew past her into the building and down the familiar hallways towards the space she and the others had been rehearsing in for years.
“I know, I know.  Sorry-” she shrugged in apology and nearly dropped the three notebooks and handful of loose papers in her arms.  Hugging them tighter into her chest she kept moving, “The bug wouldn’t start and I had to call Mary Margaret to borrow her car and then there was an accident on the highway.”
“And why couldn’t you have carpooled with Ruby?” Regina asked cooly as she followed, clearly unmoved by her tales of woe.
Emma stopped dead in the middle of the hallway and spun to face Regina, “Ruby can’t be here.  She’s not supposed to drive with the pills she was given.”
“She is and she didn’t,” Regina said with a roll of her eyes, pushing at Emma’s elbow to get her moving again. “Some other woman who has the manners of a barn animal is here with her.  If you keep inviting people to rehearsals I’m going to start charging for the privilege, maybe even turn it into a VIP package.”
“It must be Dorothy,” Emma smiled, her first real one since Ruby’s practically world ending phone call. “Good for her.  And the only other person who should be here is that Jones guy Ruby swears is worthy of replacing her.  She said he’s a session guitarist, do you not know him either?”
She’d opened the door that led to the rehearsal space, looking over her shoulder as she asked.  Regina raised an impeccably plucked brow and settled her gaze behind her.  Turning towards the room she immediately saw who the stranger was and promptly dropped everything in her arms in shock.
“Careful there, Swan, if you’re anything like every other songwriter I know those things are worth more than their weight in gold.”
Emma could do nothing more than stare as Killian Jones set his guitar aside and crossed the room to pick up the papers and notebooks at her feet.  He gathered them all and tried to straighten them before handing them up to her, a crooked grin on his face.  It faltered a little as she continued to stare at him before he chuckled and scratched behind his ear.
Killian Jones was definitely not the random guy off the street Emma had been imagining, he wasn’t even a vaguely familiar face she’d seen in the halls of their rehearsal space.  He had been the lead guitarist and second vocalist for one of the biggest rock bands in the world almost fifteen years earlier.  His band, Realm of Jewels' second album had gone multi platinum, they’d played arenas and headlined festivals across the globe.  Rumor had it that their third album was supposed to be even bigger.  Then there had been a terrible accident and half the band was gone in an instant.  Killian Jones had survived but emerged from the wreck with one hell of a dragon, in the form of alcohol and pills, on his back.
As far as she’d known he was just another rock star that had gotten lost in the world because of his addictions.  Apparently the story hadn’t ended there.  No, it had seemingly kept going with him ending up in her goddamn rehearsal space looking bashful and hot as fuck.
“You’re Killian Jones.”
He blushed and it almost killed her, “Last time I checked.”
“Realm of Jewels,” she challenged, wondering if he’d shy away from his past.
“Once upon a time,” he shot back, a glint of humor in his eyes as his blush faded.
She hummed, “Rolling Stone called you a ‘not so hidden gem in the rock world, poised to be among the pantheon of rock gods’ if I’m remembering correctly.”
“Good memory,” he grinned, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “And that same illustrious publication said you were on the road to being the Stevie Nicks of your generation.  A bit belittling but not far off the mark.”
“Belittling?” She asked sharply, her hackles rising.
He held up his hands in defense, “Not in the way you think, Swan.  If I had written the article I would have perhaps said that you were a talent beyond compare.”
“Oh,” she said, deflating a bit but still on edge due to him being there at all, “um, okay.”
She glanced around the room, trying to find a way out of the suddenly awkward silence that had settled between them.  Tink Greene and Will Scarlet, the other members of her backing band, were huddled by the drumset, watching them with barely hidden awe, clearly star struck at being in the same room with the Killian Jones.  Ruby was sitting on the couch, whispering to the woman sitting next to her, who could only be Dorothy.  Emma caught Ruby’s eye and not so subtly jerked her head back towards the hallway she’d just come from.
“Emma-” Regina snarled as she started backing out of the room.
“I’d like a minute with my guitarist if you don’t mind,” Emma said through gritted teeth, giving Jones an insincere smile that had his own widening in glee.
“Oh, do let them go, Your Majesty,” Jones said with a laugh. “I believe we still need to discuss certain terms and conditions of this little arrangement.”
Emma opened her mouth to argue that nothing was decided when Ruby pushed her fully into the hallway with surprising strength in her uninjured arm.
“Are you fucking kidding me Ruby?” She hissed as soon as the doors closed behind them. “Killian Jones?!”
“So you obviously know there’s no need for him to audition,” Ruby said with a sly smile. “I mean you have seen him in concert four, no fi-”
She covered Ruby’s mouth with her hand, shushing her as she pushed her further down the hallway.  They only made it three steps before Ruby licked her palm, cackling with glee when she yanked her hand back, disgusted.
“It’s not gonna happen.”
“Come on.  He can play, he’s available and he knows the songs.  This is the best you’re going to get and you know it,” Ruby stated proudly, her grin smug.
“The best,” Emma muttered, shaking her head and trying to keep hold of her temper. “The best?  Jesus Christ, Ruby, the second he steps out on stage it’s not my show anymore, it’s his.  I have worked too fucking long and hard for that asshole to come in and take it all from me in some bid to reclaim his glory.”
“Oh, oh no, Emma, that’s totally not at all what this is,” Ruby whispered, her face pale and looking stricken. “He owed me, big time, and I obviously didn’t think about any of that when I called it in.  Look, don’t repeat this to anyone.  Like, anyone.  But Killian hasn’t played in public since he got out of rehab.  That he even agreed to do this is I think big enough for him.  He’s not looking to steal the spotlight.”
“Then why is he here?” Emma asked, slightly mollified but still seething.
“He misses playing for an audience but I think he has a kind of block or something about going for it on his own,” Ruby said softly.  She gave a half-hearted shrug, “I’m just trying to help out two friends in one go.”
The last of her anger drained away at the sincerity in Ruby’s voice.  It wasn’t often that Ruby was the serious one in their friendship but when she was Emma always paid attention.  If she hadn’t she’d have still been waiting tables at Granny’s Diner and only playing her guitar at barbeques and bonfires for their small group of friends at home.  She also wouldn’t have been able to call Storybrooke home for that matter.
No longer angry but still infinitely annoyed she tipped her head back and let out a sigh, “Fine I’ll give him a chance on two conditions.”
“Excellent!” Ruby crowed.  Emma dropped her gaze back down and raised a brow at her, “Whatever the conditions he’ll totally do it.  He wants this, just doesn’t know how badly he does until you start making him jump through hoops to prove it to you.”
“Oh, only one of the conditions is for him,” Emma said with a smirk.
Ruby’s eyes widened, “What?  Why do I have to prove myself?”
“You don’t.  I just want to know how you can call Killian Jones, one of the most famous guitarists-”
“Who you had a poster of on your wall,” Ruby broke in with wiggling eyebrows and a giddy grin, “and a laminated photo in your-”
“Who had a very public and very destructive drug and alcohol problem, your friend,” Emma continued pointedly.
Ruby’s grin faded, “He was in the same rehab facility as my mom.  Well, one of them.  On one of her bad days I went for a walk around the gardens to cool my head a little and recognized him.  Had a bit of a fangirl moment, if I’m being honest.  Not exactly my finest moment since he was there to get his life back together and I go gushing about how great I thought he was before it all went to shit.  I could tell he was humoring me until I started talking about gigs and asking him how to improve my playing, then his eyes kinda lit up and he started offering me advice and some tricks for the road.  So whenever I went to visit my mom I would also stop by to talk to him about music.
“After my mom decided she was done being sober, again, I still went by to see him.  He needed a friend and I guess I needed to believe that someone could actually follow through with getting clean.  When he got out we stayed in touch.  Just a ‘hi, how’re you doing’ text every so often.  Until, of course, the arm thing happened.”
“And you never mentioned it because…?”
“I wanted to but it seemed-” Ruby shrugged, “like an invasion of privacy, somehow?”
Emma nodded, getting what Ruby meant but still a little hurt that she’d kept it from her.  She’d only admit it on threat of death having met him but Jones had been her number one celebrity crush since she’d discovered Realm of Jewels in her senior year of high school.  Ruby was a witness to it then and clearly still remembered that embarrassing fact.  Then it occurred to her that there were dark parts of her life that she wouldn’t want shared with a fan no matter how close of a friend Ruby was with them.  She nodded again, fully accepting the truth of what Ruby had told her.
“I’m not going to go easy on him,” she warned, spinning on her heel and walking back to the rehearsal room.
Ruby laughed, “I would have been suspicious if you did.  So what are you going to make him do?”
“You’ll see,” she said cryptically with a grin before opening the door.
“Finally,” Regina muttered as they walked back in.  She pointed a perfectly manicured finger at Emma, “You may be a favorite of the owners here but we’re still paying for every minute this room has people in it.  So start playing or find somewhere else to work out your little grievances.”
“Sorry, sorry,” Emma apologized again, knowing that if there was something that pissed Regina off more than wasted time it was wasted money.
She felt Killian’s eyes on her as she greeted Tink and Will before moving to the piano.  It was like a phantom pressure between her shoulder blades that she was trying her best to ignore.  If he was trying to unsettle her she wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction and if he was trying to figure her out she wasn’t going to make it easy for him.  When she finally had all her things set up how she wanted and ignoring him was no longer an option she turned to face him, valiantly trying to hide that she was still slightly shocked and unnerved that he was there.
“Ruby said that you’re a session guitarist now,” she began without preamble, hoping to gain whatever upper hand she could.
“I may not be hurting for cash, love, but a man does like to keep busy,” his voice dipped low at the end of his statement.  Paired with a raised brow and feral grin she had to hold back a snort of amusement at his innuendo.
“Not your love,” she shot back dismissively, “She also said that you’ve played on my albums?”
His grin faltered, “Aye.”
“And would you say you enjoyed the songs you recorded or were they just a forgettable few in a long set of recordings to… keep you busy?”
There was the sound of a violent snort and then a deep spluttering a cough that belonged to Will from behind her.  Out of the corner of her eye she saw Ruby rolling her eyes at her and Regina throwing up her hands in exasperation.  She kept her face impassive and gaze on Killian, pleased to see him fidget and scratch behind his ear in what had to be nervousness.
“Erm, well when I first recorded one of your songs I’ll admit I had no clue who you were and no interest in discovering more,” Killian admitted but instead of dropping his eyes he held her gaze. “Then I had the fortune of recording another one and found myself intrigued.  I’ve listened to everything you’ve released up ‘til now and I’ve enjoyed all of it, not just what I was hired to play.”
“Okay then,” she said as cooly as she could, despite the giddiness and disbelief running through her knowing that he liked her music. “Now I hope you don’t mind but I’d like to hear you play something.”
“Play something?” He repeated, flabbergasted.
“Just a few different songs,” she said innocently, “so I know you’ll be a good fit.”
His mouth opened and closed several times before he shot an incredulous look at Ruby.  Emma could barely hold in her laughter as Ruby shrugged and said nothing.
“Problem, Jones?”
He turned back to her, looking incredulous, “Let me get this straight, Swan, you can quote an article from Rolling Stone that was released well over a decade ago about my playing and you want me to audition?”
“Only if you want the gig,” she said with a shrug.
She could see the muscle in Killian’s jaw jumping, though she wasn’t sure if it was from annoyance or contemplation.  Either way it gave her a little inspiration.  While he continued to stew she pulled out her phone and did a quick internet search for what she needed.
“Fine, love,” he said, drawing her attention back to him.  He picked up his guitar and slid the strap over his head. “What would you like to hear?”
“Can you read music?” She asked with honest curiosity.
“I can,” he said warily.
“Good-” she turned to Ruby, “I need your Ipad.”
Ruby gave her a calculating look before slowly extracting the tablet out of her purse and handing it over.  Emma gave her what she hoped was a look of innocence before pulling up what she needed and handing it over to Killian.
“Layla?  A classic-” he smirked and handed her back the Ipad, “and one I already know by heart.”
With that he started playing, amazingly, and Emma almost didn’t have the heart to stop him.  Almost.
“Whoa there, Jones,” she said loudly, waving her hands for him to stop.  He did with a discordant note and stared at her in confusion.  She handed back the Ipad, “I wanted you to play this.”
He looked at it and then back at her, his brow furrowing even more, “But I was.”
“No, you didn’t read the music-” she wiggled the Ipad at him, “You were playing the lead.  I want to hear you play the rhythm.”
“Ah,” he breathed, a look of bemusement and something that was too much like awe replacing his confusion, “I see.”
From there he played every unflashy guitar part she could throw at him.  He didn’t complain and his annoyance didn’t make a reappearance.  The others listened happily and even offered suggestions, though Regina had left with a disgusted huff after the fourth song.  They passed the tablet back and forth several times before she decided to end the teasing with one of her favorites.
Killian snorted when he saw her choice, “You do know that two great guitarists play on this one right?  Even playing rhythm on this one is an honor.  Although, the same should have been said for Layla, but I have enjoyed this little challenge.”
“Good to know,” she said, smiling. I don’t want you to play rhythm on this one though.  If you don’t mind.”
“It would be my honor,” he hummed, handing her back the Ipad.
The chatter in the room fell silent as the familiar chords of While My Guitar Gently Weeps swept through the room.  Emma closed her eyes and let the music wash over her.  There was only one constant in her life and it was music, first listening, then playing, and finally creating.  It had never sent her back, never sent her to prison, and never forced her to send her child away.  As Killian played the last notes she felt the familiar pang of melancholy the song invoked in her but made sure the smile she gave him when she opened her eyes was genuine.
“Thanks.”
“Shouldn’t I be thanking you for giving me the opportunity?  I’ve never had to audition before-”
“Lucky git,” Will grumbled as he ambled by them, heading toward the snack table on one side of the room.
“Will Scarlet, drums, constant pain in the ass but our pain in the ass,” Emma commented lightly, batting away the Red Vine Will had tossed at her.  She hitched her thumb over her shoulder to where she’d last noticed Tink, “That’s Tink Greene, bassist, she’s small but she’ll knock you out if you mess with the current rotation of romance novels she’ll be bringing on the bus.”
Killian raised a brow at her, “I can’t quite tell by your tone but am I to believe I got the gig?”
“You had the gig as soon as she saw your pretty face and hot ass,” Ruby called out from her spot on the couch, causing Emma’s cheeks to heat up and Killian’s lip to curl.
“Yeah, well-” she cleared her throat, “We’ve, uh, already used up our reserved time for today and Regina won’t be happy if we stay late, even if we actually rehearse.  We’ve got a couple more weeks of rehearsals on Mondays and Fridays and then it’ll be almost every day until the tour starts.  If you need somewhere to stay just let Regina know and she’ll book the hotel room or whatever.”
“So I got the gig?” Killian pressed, his blue eyes glittering in mirth.
“You got the gig,” she sighed, rolling her eyes at his toothy grin. Then she let her features settle into what she hoped was a menacing look, “There’s some conditions.”
“Of course,” he said, nodding sagely.
“Your name isn’t going to be in any of the advertising, or brought up in interviews, and absolutely not on any of the damn marquees.  You’re being hired as a guitarist in my backing band, not as the feature player.”
He nodded again but with understanding, “Of course, I have no desire to upstage you or hijack the tour for my own needs.”
“Good,” she said, slightly surprised he agreed so easily. “This is also temporary.  Once Ruby gets the all clear from her doctor she’s back and you’re out.”
“As I wouldn’t want to keep a fellow musician, or friend, out of work I will happily step aside-” he gave a little bow that she refused to see as charming.
“And last, no groupies on the bus,” she added, fighting to keep her face impassive and the blush that threatened from pinkening her cheeks.
It had never been a set rule, in fact it was one they’d each bent a little one time or another, but a weird pressure built in the back of her neck at the thought of having to see and listen to Killian with some doe eyed fan.  Not that she cared.  She just didn’t want to get to know him that intimately, even if it was by proxy, when she barely knew him as anyone other than the rock star she’d had a crush in high school.
His jaw clenched almost imperceptibly before he laughed.  It didn’t sound forced or off but somehow Emma knew it was fake all the same.
“Understood, love.”
“Still not your love-” she held out her hand and his hand was calloused and warm when he grasped it, “Welcome to the band.”

Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange Recommendations
The time to cram has come! T-minus 12 or so hours until the author reveals so I thought I’d make a little plug for some stories I enjoyed that came out of the @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange
First off, I am VERY behind on reading the collection. I received a concussion around the time that the fics came out so my reading has been limited first by the light sensitivity, then the work catch-up in week 2 ( I had to take off work due to the concussion), and now me on short weekend vacation (yay!). I’ve perhaps touched thirty fics at this point (I still have to get to my gift fic which was posted today :D ) so this is by no means a whole evaluation of what’s been put out. The whole collection has been extremely high quality and I hope to come back later and post some more recs. I thank the mods for taking the time to wrangle with keeping this so organized. It’s been a blast.
Modern AU:
Man With a Heartbeat  You’ve likely seen this story come up in recs a million times but it’s Just. That. Good. With a unique writing style, and a cast of characters that includes some cameos by some personal book faves (minor as they are), this one is sure to sweep you off your feet with it’s very different take. I mean...antique dealers? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fanfic touch on this before and I was 100% here for this. Also Brienne was highly relatable lol.  Lesson Learned: ALWAYS plan your proposals or at least make sure the desire for marriage is clearly communicated and understood between both parties. #rip
To a Distant Stranger Jaime is super hot rocker who runs into Brienne again and again and again, despite her attempts to create distance between them after their implied (crazy off the charts, soul-mate inducing chemistry) hook-ups. Eventually he drops his rocker life and takes up as a bartender and true lurvvvveeee blossoms. :D  Lesson Learned: No bartender experience is needed when the course of true love doesn’t run smooth.
all these people think love’s for show (but I would die for you in secret) The author wouldn’t know this but the majority of my first bookmarked fics on AO3 were spy AUs. This sexy piece hit a very weak point for me since spies and schmexyness makes me go weak in the knees. (Also this title is prob my fave line from my fave TS song, did Author have to go so hard at me like that? It was a double whammy T.T) Jaime and Brienne are BRIMMING with sexual tension and from the first meeting I was already sitting on the edge of my seating thinking “Now kiss!” The author makes it worth it with some very bonding, emotional adventures that make the payoff feel so worth it.
if one thing had been different (would everything be different?) I just adore the premise that Jaime is Brienne’s landlord here. Lots of sexiness going on and feels where Jaime’s been nursing a crush for one LONG hot minute (read: several years) on B and our girl is sure he’s been bullying her FOREVER (tbr Jaime’s flirting isn’t as clear cut as the boy would like to believe)
Just as Sweet (just as thorny)  OOOHHH this had me feeling many things because I just wanted Jaime and Brienne to be in love but man, many feelings having to be sorted out since Jaime and Brienne met and developed feelings under the cover of Jaime’s fake persona. Selwyn Tarth also makes a fun cameo that helps Jaime’s chance at making it with his girl and Brienne’s life at the end of the story is on the up and up (romantic relationship aside. Did I mentioned I love spy AUs? This read is a MUST.
My Best Friend’s Wedding Brienne hires a professional party date who is (of course) our man JamLan. I have a huge weakness for fake relationships so this just knocked me down after all the spy AUs I read from the exchange. It’s all the parts you love about the movie The Wedding Date and more. The fic also gave me a lot of feelings about one of my favorite places in the world Mackinac island which I was delighted to find out in the AN actually served as a source of inspiration for this fic. :D
Backpfeifengesicht I know you’ve seen this recc-ed before so I’m going to say that what everyone says is accurate. It’s funny, it’s sexy and the friendships are top notch. I’m personally rather proud that I posited a question about the type of table mentioned in this fic and sparking a discussion that descended into who the author might be based on height of various authors around the fandom. Yes, I will take credit for that madness XD
The Knight and the Thief Cat Burglar AU. There’s a bunch of sneaking around here that hit’s me the same way as it does with Spy AUs. Of course Jaime wins the day with his biggest steal yet, one sapphire-eyed wench.
The One That Got Away Jaime and Brienne meet in College after knowing each other in high school. Reading Jaime try and fail to convince Brienne of his affection was a humorous trial and half. Favorite line in this fic: “You’re not just the one that got away. You’re the one. Period.” A very swoon worthy story that builds up perfectly. 100% worth the read!
Jaime, Brienne, and the Bachelor Party on Wheels Having attended uni in a college town where partying was the main event, seeing these bicycle drinking carts was a common occurrence and I knew as soon as I saw the title, this fic was going to be a must read for me. Jaime and Ygritte as good friends was the friendship I didn’t know I needed and I am totally taking notes now to put it in fic at some point. There’s a lot of rowing references I wasn’t familiar with but all the innuendos were very clear in their intentions. ;)
Book Canon AU:
A Matter of Honor Oh man this one is sexy as hell. This fic delves into ‘what if the Tarth’s were the wealthy noble house with royal favor and the Lannisters were the disrupted, down-on-their-luck Lords Paramount?’ A lot of fun is involved in this battle of wills, whether it’s Brienne, deciding to stick by her vow to marry despite her reservations about her husband-to-be,  Selwyn Tarth, trying to convince to break her betrothal, or Jaime, trying to decide if maybe he actually is into his potential new wife. There is so much fun and sexiness here that I couldn’t get enough. I may have also read this three times...XD
A Wench’s Kiss Have I ever mentioned how much I love a clearly communicated  sex scene where both parties involved know each other’s needs? Well you do now! While the roles here are clearly defined as to who is who in this Dom&Sub role-play dynamic, it is very clear that every action done is done as communicated by the partners preferences and needs.
Other AU
Brienne Tarth and the Quest for the Lost Swords  Brienne is Indiana Jones and Jaime is the Nazi lady from movie three with a better heart and better intentions (in the end). Fortunately, the end for these two is much better then it was for Indy and his doomed lady love (Jk I was always team Marion but stillll).

Gorillaz: Humanz
Tumblr media
SHere it is, the comeback tour! I was so excited for this album, I sucked all the singles that came out before I could download the album. This album basically reminded me of the reasons I love Gorillaz. All of them. One particular reason a little too well...
Okay, let's get the elephant out of the room. This album is a bit controversial among the community for playing a little too hard to one of Gorillaz' strengths: showcasing cool artists. There are more than a few tracks where Damon doesn't even show up. Hell, my favorite track doesn't even have it on him. Me, I honestly don't care about that as long as I get to hear good music but for the rest of you die hard Gorillaz fans? Just think of this as a compilation album like NOW That's What I Call Alternative/Indie Hip-Hop/R&B/Electronica/Pop.
See? Rolls off the tongue. Now let's get started.
1. Intro: I Switched My Robot Off
Nice. Real ominous. Gorillaz really know how to build up a presentation. Feels like you're walking through the doors of the doors to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Anybody remember Legends of the Hidden Temple? Were there doors on that stage? Anyway, awesome.
10/10
2. Ascension
Holy hell, Vince really knocks it out of the park on this one. Different beat, nice flow, social commentary...He was not fucking around on this track. Damon's barely on the track but Vince makes up for it with his existential rhymes and chorus back-up. Man, Gorillaz has gotta take advantage of gospel more often.
9/10
3. Strobelite
That didn't take long, did it? Anyway, this is my favorite song on the album. Peven has an incredible voice, the music psychically compels you to dance and...that's it. Sometimes, well usually with me, you just need to go with Simple Yet Awesome. Have a good voice and a good beat. This song has both and I'm pretty sure that one day, a scientist will hear this song and will be inspired by it to cure diabetes.
100/10
4. Saturn Barz
Ah, the lead single from the album. Remember the 360 house, everyone? Yeah, you remember. Glad to have Gorillaz welcome back Reggae into their line-up with Popcaan manning the helms. He and Damon tag-team the eardrums with the power of dread as the instrumentation makes you feel like you're in a haunted house. Welcome back, guys.
25/10
5. Momentz
WELCOME BACK, GUYS! De La Soul returns to say some real shit about time and how you should, respect and stuff. Seriously, awesome track. Kicks so much ass and you can even dance to it as you wonder if this MOMENT will be one of the last times when you feel really happy. Nice...
9/10
6. Interlude: The Non-Conformist Oath
Hey, Steve Martin! I like to imagine a bunch of assholes listening to this and...just not getting it. Not us though. We get it. We're smart. Smarter than those guys...
10/10
7. Submission
This song had to grow on me but years after I got the album and after I learned to appreciate Danny Brown a little more like all humans should, this song became one of my favorites off the album. Don't worry Kelela, he doesn't carry the whole song. Her voice is so beautiful that it can calm a charging rhino or a coked-up Connor McGregor. These make the song a lot classier than it had any right being.
90/10
8. Charger
She's beauty, she's Grace...she's also Jones. Man, I haven't heard from this woman since Corporate Cannibal and she has clearly been keeping up practice. God, how can a woman's laughter both scare and arouse me? Damon's no slouch on this track either, singing about the monster that keeps us all tethered: the charger. I kid, I kid. Hey, did Damon really get a boner on stage when he sung this or are you guys messing with me? Message me if you know.
9/10
9. Interlude: Elevator Going Up
On a recent trip, I tried to go up the elevator but it was card-activated so a desk lady had to help me. That's it.
8/10
10. Andromeda
Damon has to do the heavy lifting here and his muscles have not completely wasted away from lack of use. He tells us to take in our heart and you know what? I did. I took this song directly in my heart...and my playlist.
50/10
11. Busted And Blue
Yeah, this song is a bummer. A good bummer. It's Broken's younger brother who joined the army to make his parents proud after he couldn't get into university like his older brother who managed to form a separate family with his squad and began to think that maybe he was good enough after all before his squad gets bombed and, as he lies legless dying painfully on the ground, a blue butterfly land directly on his outstretched busted hand...
Directed by Mervyn LeRoy
10/10
12. Interlude: Talk Radio
You ever wonder how we get voices in machines? I know you think it's a complicated process but I know a dude who picked up the radio in his electric fan once. Think about it.
8/10
13. Carnival
Again, this song had to grow on me but one day, while I was thinking about Gamzee for a godforsaken reason, I thought "Geez, he talks about the Dark Carnival and the Dark Carnival isn't even some of ICP's best days. What's a good song about a carnival?" Anyway, Anthony can spin a person's mind and mind around just by singing. He's wild.
80/10
14. Let Me Out
Hey, wouldn't it be funny if Mavis was Vince's mother? She's not but that would be funny as well as cool. Her and Pusha T bang on the walls of this track as they rant about the politics at the time of this song. Yeah, they're talking about Trump. That car horn can't protect you forever, you orange bastard.
9/10
15. Interlude: Penthouse
Dear Penthouse: Hi. Does anyone check in on you, just you? I'm here to say I think you're important and you provide a necessary outlet for men to brag about being perverts. At least before the Youtube comment section existed.
Thanks for everything,
mytastessuck
8/10
16. Sex Murder Party
Ooooo, this track puts me in a funky mood. Like, there's a part but there's sex there...and MURDER. So you know it's an awesome party. Kick-ass, right? I know it's kick-ass. Keep dancing, people.
11/10
17. She's My Collar
Pretty sexy song. Gotta love people vauging about being used in a song. That's why we love Offspring, that's why we love Damon on his knees onstage. Hey, there was a post that said Noodle wrote this song about her girlfriend. That was an excellent post. Well done.
9/10
18. Interlude: The Elephant
I SAID GET OUT OF HERE, YOU BASTARD!
8/10
19. Hallelujah Money
Ah, the technical first single. Remember when they said that they weren't going to put this song on the album? Anyway, this is exactly the song we needed after The Incident occurred. Benjamin manages to calm down an entire populace while Damon just fearfully wonders what our future will be like...and he's in the UK. This song is one long terrifying lullaby to an entire country...until the end, anyway.
75/10
20. We Got The Power
A great way to remind listeners that no matter what's happening, no matter who's in charge, we have the power change everything. An excellent message for people who were still recovering from The Incident.
10/10
21. Interlude: New World
Okay, the bonus tracks. Should be nothing special here, right? Just some B-sides and I've never shown favoritism towards B-sides, right?
8/10
22. The Apprentice
A nice song from the same Rag n' Bone Man who brought us "Human". Zebra manages to lay down some nice rhymes as Ray BLK backs them both up with the force of her voice. These guys should form a team with how well they work together. Oh, they should make a virtual band! All they need to do is find an artist...
9/10
23. Halfway To The Halfway House
A very nice song if a bit overshadowed by the others on the album. Still, Peven can't be beat when it comes to crooning and he raises a song from a solid C to a B.
8/10
24. Out of Body
This song had to grow on me also but when it did...lord, this song is weird. Hypnotic suggestions, telephone tones, the song starts then Zebra jumps in to help then who is this person?! Why are people applauding?! Who are you people?! Why are there so many crows gathering outside my house?!
60/10
25. Ticker Tape
Well well well, look who's back. Damon returns with his old friend Kali to join the accuser of the vain Carly Simon to beg us to stay on the album. Sorry Damon, but I got places to do and people to go. There's nothing you can do to convince me to stick around after how long this album already is.
9/10
26. Circle of Friendz
Huh. Seems like a riot is going on. Weird for Gorillaz to get this real. What, this guy is just going to keep saying Circle of Friendz again and again? Is this supposed to affect me? Get real. It'll take a lot more than a nice voice and implications to...
To...
...
...Maybe I should listen to the album again.
11/10
Album score: 25/10
Damn, that took a while. Shouldn't be the case next week when we cover The Now Now. See you then!

Wonder Woman 1984 Review: How Does Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins’ Sequel Stack Up?
Tumblr media
There’s a saying that you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, a saying that could also best represent 2020, a year in which so much has been taken away from moviegoers… like getting to see movies in theaters, for instance. While you might not necessarily miss everything that’s been taken away this year, maybe the decrease in the surplus of superhero movies has given new and indie filmmakers a chance to be discovered by avid movie fans.
After two weaker comic book offerings this year in Bloodshot and The New Mutants, we’re finally getting a sequel to Patty Jenkins’ 2017 movie Wonder Woman, but if nothing else, Wonder Woman 1984 makes one realize that the lack of innovation when it comes to the “superhero genre” is not something we’re going to see very soon.
As you might guess from the title, it’s 1984 and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) has a job at the Smithsonian Museum in D.C. as an expert on antiquities. Her new klutzy co-worker Dr. Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wigg) has just started and is immediately jealous of Diana’s beauty, her intelligence plus all the attention she gets from the men around her. One such man is oil magnate Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), who is looking to invest in the Smithsonian. He’s particularly interested in an item that Minerva is studying that turns out to grant those who hold it a single wish. What could possibly go wrong?
I enjoyed Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman just fine, although I never really bothered to see it a second time, which would have been the case if I truly loved the movie rather than just liked it. Working from a script co-written with former DC head honcho Geoff Johns and David Callaham (writer of the 2014 Godzilla), Jenkins faces obstacles faced by every sequel when you’re working against having to raise the stakes from an original movie without losing everything that made the first movie so loved and special.
Tumblr media
The general lack of action might not be so obvious right away, because it begins with a pretty pointless sequence on Themyscira with Diana as a young girl taking part in an American Ninja Warrior style obstacle course competition against older Amazons – just to reiterate that her mother Hyppolyta (Connie Nielsen) doesn’t want Diana training to be a warrior. Again. It makes for a semi-redundant opening scene that doesn’t really add much in the way of setting up what happens later in the movie.  We then get a scene of Wonder Woman in a DC mall taking on a bunch of burglars using all her powers, basically to remind us that she’s a superhero in “Man’s World” six decades after the events in Wonder Woman.
That’s all the action for almost an hour, because the movie then shirts to introduce the new villain characters, and we spend a good hour seeing how they interact, as well as seeing how their relationships are affected by a historical artifact, essentially a “wishing stone.” I won’t spoil how Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, who seemed to die in the first movie, is back in the ‘80s to play Diana’s love interest again – I’m sure you can figure that out -- although he does get more into the action this time, rather than just being an Amazonian boy toy. Regardless, the scenes between Pine and Gadot tend to be the best parts of the movie.
I’ve generally been mixed on Wiig as an actor for a long time, and she doesn’t do that much as Minerva that changes my opinion, while Pascal tends to veer into the hammy acting we’ve seen from far too many actors playing DC villains. Sure, there have been exceptions, but Maxwell Lord hasn’t even really been handled very well in the comics other than his early appearance in the DeMatteis-Giffen-Maguire Justice League from from the ‘80s. I’m a little surprised by the attempts to turn him into a major DCU villain ala Superman’s Luthor, but Pascal plays Lord more like a sleazy oil magnate version of Luthor, which is what this version essentially is.
Tumblr media
Jenkins tries so hard to instill the movie with a light, care-free tone but the humor feels forced and often feels flat. For instance, there’s only so many times you can make jokes about Trevor being a fish out of water before it gets tired even if it’s meant to be played off of Diana’s own adjustments in the first movie. The action is generally okay, a lot of awkward wirework combined with some of the Zack Snyder style of using time-control to make it seem more exciting. One of the better action setpieces takes place in Egypt that comes across a bit Indiana Jones but generally works better than all the action that comes before or afterwards.
Wonder Woman 1984 has the same general problem as movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Returns, Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where Jenkins is once again adding too many villains to the mix and making the movie more about interconnecting their origins rather than keeping the spotlight on Diana. Fans of the comics might also be disappointed with how long it takes for Minerva to actually transform into the Cheetah and how little we actually get to see of her in that guise. It just adds to a superhero movie problem that we’ve seen countless times before.
As far as how Wonder Woman herself evolves, we do get to see her flying in the movie – both alone but also with a nod to her famous plane --  although the idea of having her use her lasso to wrangle onto lightning bolts for steering might not have been the most well thought-out idea. And yes, that golden armor with wings, something probably more appropriate for Hawkwoman, does show up and is put to use in one of the fights, but it’s also something that (like a lot in this movie) serves very little purpose.
Tumblr media
Despite all the issues, where Wonder Woman 1984 excels is its ending which really pays off in a great way after turning what seemed like a simple premise into a full-on global crisis, and it almost makes you forget some of the sillier bits from earlier.
Wonder Woman 1984 is neither a terrible superhero movie nor necessarily a bad sequel – it’s not as bad as Suicide Squad or Justice League, for example. Saying that, Wonder Woman was the very first full Wonder Woman movie, so you can understand why expectations for a sequel might be high. Unfortunately, while good, this sequel might not live up to many of those expectations, although like everything else these days, mileage may vary.
Rating: 7/10
Note: There is a mid-credits sequence you might want to stick around for, though it feels like more pointless fan service than anything needed to enhance the movie or even set anything up for future films.

Pippa and Hamin for the ship meme!
let’s GOOOOO. Under a read more because I can talk about Ideas For Fucking Ever. The meme in question and if you read this and think “golly gee, I’d love to give you an opprotunity to chat more about othere people” I have a shiny new character page you could reference here.
who’s the werewolf and who’s the hunter
This one I had to think about. Hamin probably makes a better werewolf, but Pippa makes a UNIQUELY terrible hunter so, pivoting ever so slightly maybe she’s more like a behind the scenes information broker type (Pippa, Collector and Keeper of Secrets is incredibly canon after all). She’d obviously have to start off allied with the hunters, to keep the tension with Hamin real and true. Hamin’s pack doesn’t have the WORST reputation possible, but they’re definitely not above suspicion. They retain their passion for ocean voyages, which strikes other people as odd because prejudice.
That said, you know who ALSO makes a great werewolf? Pippa’s mother and “aunt”, Roshan and Jessamine, so Pippa as part of a bamf all lady’s wolf pack who get tangled up with hunter shenanigans is also an excellent plot. Not least because Pippa would be a very pretty wolf, I dare say (maybe they’d actually be were-jackels, a la the Golden Jackel? A Consideration, given where I HC a modern AU Pippa would be from).
In this case I’d say the lady’s pack almost never maul people, except maybe domestic abusers and rapists, but who can blame them? So another pack moves in (it’s prob Jarrude’s lbr) and causes problems and Very Serious Hunter Hamin (ha) has to wade through the complicated world of lycanthrope politics to find The Truth. And of course falls in love with the nicest werewolf this side of whatever major geographical feature of your choice.
who’s the mermaid and who’s the fisherman
Mermaid Pippa and “fisherman” Hamin, natch. Pippa’s not very ruthless canonically, but I can apply liberal use of Alternate Cultural POVs On Ethics and say Pippa only leaves her goaded people on rocks, she never drowns them! That’s very nice of her! And sometimes she pulls an Ariel and helps a bro out, which is probably related to how her and Hamin meet. Some options:
1. Pippa had previously saved Hamin’s life, so in turn, something happens and she gets caught, and he saves her life as repayment. Similar to Bog Standard Plot Below, she’s obviously too injured to return to sea so they’re forced to cohabitate. High jinks and romance ensue.
2. Bog standard mermaid washed ashore plot. Bathtub high jinks ensue. There’s a scene where someone catches Hamin carrying a bucket of raw fish into his house and he has to explain it away. Leala catches on in the first 20 mins. At some point, they’re forced to bring Pippa to dinner with Hamin’s dad and there is much nerves, only for Pippa to reveal she’s stranded many a gentlemen adventurer in her time and she picked up some epic etiquette knowledge along the way.
3. Hamin gets stranded somewhere and Pippa’s the only person around who can come visit. It starts with her bringing him fish. Requisite Second Act Breakup is when Pippa, conscience having formed in the last hour of run time, reveals a way off his small deserted island. Obviously, he sails off in a huff and they meet up again in the next 35 minutes, have the big damn kiss and idk how you turn this one into a true happy ending and not a sort of esoteric one but Hollywood and or an Indie Darling Director will manage.
who’s the witch and who’s the familiar
Witch Pippa, hands down the answer. She gets it from her grandmother (er, step-grandmother?). Does Hamin have an animal form? If so, does it align to Pippa Aesthetic and is he a snakey boi or, does he get to pick? What would Hamin pick? Seagull - the goose of the sea?
Other option is he’s always human and either case I’m betting Hamin’s not a traditional familiar. Rather, he needed to get out Faerie/Familiarland STAT and filched Pippa’s contract off a Traditional And Proper Familiar and got himself a ticket to human land away from whoever he pissed off.
High jinks ensue.
who’s the barista and who’s the coffee addict
I had to think about this one because I mean let’s be very real here - neither Pippa, Quintessential Nice But Still Privileged Rich Girl or Hamin “cause problems for the staff on purpose” are shoe ins for having worked for customer service. That said, Hamin’s more likely to piss off his dad and be forced to get a job and like, have a real person job in general. So, Hamin’s barista job is his in-world Summit equivelent and he planned to quit the moment he paid off whatever damages he’s definitely paying off.
Except, Pippa comes in and orders only moderately complicated coffee orders and this isn’t a place that does the name thing so Hamin knows Nothing except she’s friendly and pretty and omg this one is perfect to throw in the OT3 because clearly the only reason he doesn’t just immediately ask Pippa for her name and number and also the next 20 years of her life pls and thanks is her hot boyfriend.
(But it’s okay, Pippa has two hands and so does Zarad u_u)
Otherwise she’d have to be someone who just comes to drive through bc idk why he’d hold off on asking since this is HAMIN we’re talking about.
who’s the professor and who’s the TA
...either of these two in academia is an interesting prospect. Maybe he’s a kid who got into archeology because of Indiana Jones and, while there’s far fewer chase scenes and death traps, Hamin ended up with a PhD and a job and look, he’s as confused as you are about how this all happened. It’s alright though because the job does come with cute anthropology TAs who work in an allied and often cross referential field. Pippa’s less immediately enamoured with Hamin but warms up because he’s the only person who actually listens to her and doesn’t treat her like she’s a child just because she’s a short woman.
This one could be set in exciting locales for a bit of Indie Flavour but with more consent and less horrifying age gaps, and no breaking of international laws and if anyone gets squished by rocks it’s a horrifying rock slide scenario.
Alternatively, polisci professor Pippa is working alongside the marine biology department to work on smth enviro-politics and ocean protection. TA Hamin is Very Enthusiastic about helping her out. This one features a scene where people naturally assume Hamin’s the professor and he trolls the ever living shit out of them.
This one is set in conferences which is 10000% less sexy but also way more familiar.
Depends on the vibes u want. Either way, Lyon is there somewhere and he and Pippa are unlikely friends purely because 4′10″ Pippa and like, 6′5″ or whatever Lyon being friends is never not hilarious. He definitely disapproves of Hamin just in general but especially in a library setting.
who’s the knight and who’s the prince(ss)
This is legit a Knight’s Tale AU, except instead of Jousting, we’ll say Hamin ends up taking Princess Pippa across the country as a sort of personal security situations and, as usual high jinks ensue. IDK who makes the best Chaucer stand in as a pal to help Hamin in his quest but he definitely needs the help. Pippa catches on like, super fast anyway because her interpersonal insight is boss af but she just goes with it because it’s amusing and he’s doing a fine job.
Another candidate for the OT3 bc Chaucer!Zarad is perfect, but so is the plot being that Hamin and Zarad had a thing aaages ago, now Pippa’s being carted off to marry prince Zarad and oh hey this is also nearly a Sinbad AU but with the proper Poly Ending in place
There is no AU where Pippa’s a the knight to Hamin’s prince, I’m sad to say. Her martial skills are about nil.
who’s the teacher and who’s the single parent
HMMM. I think Early Childhood Specialist Hamin and Parent Pippa shake out best, mostly because at the end of the day I don’t think Pippa like...likes kids that much. She doesn’t dislike them but she’d never want a life devoted to spending all her time with them. Her own kids though, different story.
Evil instinct says dad is Clarmont, because I feel like Clarmont is really easy to kill off in incredibly tragic but heroic circumstances and Modern AU Pippa would totally be down for a Clarmont romance. Anyway, Pippa has an adorable little girl who thinks Mr. Hamin is the BEST teacher, he helped her dig up worms for her show and tell at recess mama!
Pippa and Hamin in this set up don’t actually meet for like, a solid three months so they both form skew-whiff images of the other and so they get a CLASSIC “oh no (s)he’s hot / THIS IS MR. HAMIN / THIS IS MS. X” moment. Adorable Little Girl is captain of this ship despite being like, 4 and Pippa and Hamin are just along for the ride.
High jinks ensue.
(alt bc I’m never not on my bullshit dad is Zarad, and not dead and they just never married bc Family Drama and OT3 babey)
who’s the writer and who’s the editor
Absolutely writer Hamin and editor Pippa. She inherited from someone who quit and she really shakes things up by like, having Expectations and shit and Hamin, who’s been not in a good place following a personal trauma, finds himself annoyed for all of two seconds before she shows up on his doorstep on the day after a due date because if he wants to play Pippa will Play. And oh no, she’s cute. Hamin is enraptured, Pippa just wants him to work at first. Romance blossoms lopsidedly but he charms her after some sort of deal is struck that includes her dragging him out of the house to buy food or just go for a walk or whatever.
Shenanigan ensue.
This one is pure fluff about the power of human connection, there is no second act drama they get to skip ahead AND collect their 20 dollars it’s great.

"plots please" !!! cause yessss
subject plots please // accepting : :
i'll respond with three or more potential relationships // connections // plots between our muses. a creative exercise with no pressure to follow up, but we can if you'd like!
𝐢. fairytale
i see you, i see you liking that fairytale verse post and yessss. look, imagine if you will:
jaina couldn't give a toss about courtly life. not her thing, not her jam, not her cuppa tea. and expectations on what she'll do with her life are slim pickings. become an advisor for her brother? eh. become an ambassador? meh. a political marriage to ensure peace between nations? bleh.
responsibilities of the state are her brother's problems. his book is filled with expectations, but jaina has a lot of blank pages just waiting for her. she's got her eyes on the horizon and, much to leia's dismay, she follows it. jaina decides to find her adventure and maybe even a ship called the falcon whose captain might the estranged consort, mhm.
but then tragedy strikes and suddenly, jaina is heir to throne. leia sends out riders to bring her home but she isn't the only one looking for jaina though. the black knight kylo ren is on the hunt and unlike the couriers, he doesn't stop till he gets what he wants.
i imagine when he finds jaina, she doesn't know who she is. she wasn't there to witness her brother's fall and while on the road, it's hard to keep track on the current happenings across the world. but maybe there was a rider who found her first, told her a blip of the bad news that her brother was dead and that jaina was expected to take his place. tells her all this right before he's struck dead by the violent arrival of kylo ren.
from there i can see it becoming a fight/capture arc that kylo ren most likely ends up winning. so now poor jaina is not only a prisoner but by the man she believes may have/did kill her brother. and then what if on the way back to snoke's domain or wherever it is that kylo wants to take her, something far more frightening than the black knight of the fae seeks to slake its thirst.
𝐢𝐢. carnival row
critch hunter kylo and critch smuggler jaina? they're at complete odds with each other. her brother is a ruthless killer who uses the powers his hybrid lineage gave him to kill others exactly like him. and his sister uses the airship she inherited from their father to not only transport refugees but supplies to the row.
anytime they see each other ─── which most of the time is right when jaina sails off with ren's quarry ─── it's all glowers and growls. but for all the animosity, neither of them will betray each other's secret: they're half-bloods. jaina doesn't want her to see her brother dead or imprisoned by the very people he works for and kylo doesn't want to see his sister treated like...well, how critch are treated. even in the burgue, if it were to slip that she wasn't fully human despite her appearance? they wouldn't let her keep her ship or the government would surely give her a hard time about it. she'd be under constant threat of losing all she's worked for, she be under such scrutiny that she'd become an ineffective smuggler and then what? as much as her brother hates what she does, he won't put her at risk no matter how tempting it might be to be rid of such a persistent nuisance. he doesn't want to see his sister in the row or anywhere that'll punish her for being strongwilled.
i'd assume the feeling is mutual. kylo's line of work has made plenty of enemies that would pounce on even a hint of his lineage. he's crafty, like his sister, and while they both use the magic in their blood to their benefit ─── it's not kylo's freedom that's threatened, but his life. and for all the bitterness that might stew between them, a dead brother's not on her wishlist.
as for the plot? i feel like there's a lot of interactions they could have. a fighty, cat-and-mouse thread of kylo ren chasing after his sister as she tries to guide a group of refugees to her ship. i can see them meeting in the burgue, her wondering why her brother is there and him trying to avoid her finding anything out at all cost. jaina would be much more the aggressor in that scenario. not in a violent way, but i can see her tailing after him, demanding answers, tracking him down, spying on him, and kylo just incoherently screaming in his head about it. playing off that, how the events of the first season would affect them during their hide-and-go-seek on steroids. especially since their mother is an augur and they've inherited her gifts.
fortunately and unfortunately, carnival row doesn't have any source material beyond a screenplay for a movie from a decade or so ago. so while that means we don't have any canon to that replicates what force-sensitivity would best translate as and what otherkin that would be, it does leave room for our own speculation. a human-passing witch-like otherkin with telekinetic abilities isn't a reach for what we've seen in the show so far. and even if leia isn't full otherkin either, and their powers are from an ancestor, that doesn't change the targets between their eyes if anyone ever found out because "blood impurity" of any kind is enough to turn society against you.
𝐢𝐢𝐢. tolkien
i've been speculating about this one for a looooooooooong damn time because frankly it feels sacrilegious to change anything about middle-earth. i need to reread at least the silmarillion and the children of húrin or at least dig into the deepest, darkest pits of my mythology notes to sparknotes myself. i'm not entirely sure where to place it at the moment but i imagine alderaan is a small, very beautiful and very cursed kingdom of men. the ruling bloodline has been thoroughly plagued by internal conflict with their alliances flip-flopping every generation or so. and it's because of that there's inherited weakness to the call of the dark and a very young ben would've been susceptible to the whispers of a servant of sauron.
i'm sure ben is good at hiding it but it's only a matter of time before someone hears him mumbling to himself in the dark tongue and wondering where the fuck he picked that trick up.
but yes! this verse is very theoretical at the moment because there's a lot of events to work around, especially with the specific placement of alderaan. i do fancy the idea of them being within the sights of angmar though and leia having screaming matches with the witch-king since the day she was born. it would also lend to just how corrupted their lands are and why there's a strong influence of evil bleeding into its heirs. but i'm also digging the idea of having them border ithilien, so they get to have that look of "the prettiest in the westlands" look but the corruption of the morgulduin seeps into their soil.
that latter idea is what i'm really focusing on because the idea of rebellious scamp royals ben and jaina sneaking off to go adventuring and seeing minas morgul is a such a morbid mood because just imagine feeling the evil radiating around them. ben, of course, wants a closer look. he's drawn to it and jaina's just like "haha we're in danger."
𝐢𝐯. time period horror
i'm not entirely sure on what time period because i'm very drawn to a colonial setting for the vvitch and sleepy hollow oomph but also early 1900s is a such a fantastic gothic period that would put them through the gauntlet. it's modern, but with still a lot of untouched wilderness for them to get dragged through by a pair of clawed hands attached to gnashing teeth. but either way, something that mixes american horror classics like witchcraft + washington irving + lovecraft + edgar allan poe.
i don't have a solid idea for an over-arc plot but i imagine something episodic. like different mysteries and hunts that they go on and experiencing the strife that goes along with the real world events happening as they get dunked on by cryptids. plus, i doubt they'd be fully human themselves.
i think in this verse, we would get to see what they'd be like as brother and sister without corruption physically taking jaina's brother away from her, but i do think ben would still have dark tendencies and the deeper they go into an unseen world of monsters and magic... *cue maniacal coffee sipping*
𝐯. the children of indi-han-a jones
a verse with indiana jones and the mummy vibes? mhm. yes please. also gives the solo sibs to be their solo-iest because i don't think ben would be evil. he might be morally grey with that good old hollywood american ability of getting himself into completely avoidable trouble, but an heir of darkness he is not. he might be prone to dark influences/curses but s'little different. anyway, this in the late 1800s to the early 1900s setting? gimme.

Brie Larson vs. The World: A Letter for Humanity
So I’d like to share and say hmmm in terms of adoration mm yeah Chris Evans what a husband material hubba hubba Chris Hemsworth funny dude even Taika Waititi oh Jodie Comer- in lesbians for her Armie Hammer Jake Gyllenhaal oofers eye candy Margaret Qualley mah babies Mackenzie Davis Wynonna Ryder and Kristen Stewart of course all them Marvel girls from A for Angelina Jolie Blanchett Danai Debicki Saldana Evangeline Karen Scarlett etc etc etc to Z for Zendaya Star Wars gang Daisy Felicity Oscar Lupita um yes please all the heroines we love Gal Gadot Amber Heard les cheveux roux madmoiselles Chastain Amy Adams the veterans Patricia Clarke Bullock Paulson Weaver Gillian Anderson Moore Lawless Mirren what goddesses they are even the young’uns newcomers Diana Silvers Billie Lourd Hunter Schafer such gems Thrones crew Gwendoline Emilia Lena Kit Sophie Maisie err pretty much everyone of them yes even the Night King give me the shivurs Aubrey Plaza Anna Kendrick Sarah Carter yas yas yas even some voice actors Ashly Burch Elizabeth Maxwell Hannah Telle j’adore Fab Five queers heck even politicians like AOC or Kamala Harris or Brian Sims gets me giddy wonderful wonderful insanely talented amazing great people.
But
Tumblr media
then
Tumblr media
there’s
Tumblr media
Brie Larson.
Tumblr media
I was a music photographer and journalist for a while, I interviewed people and got the chance to meet some renowned humans (Feist, Au Revoir Simone, Kina Grannis, YYYs, Sean Lennon to name a few) it was my job to recognise their backgrounds and learn people’s personalities and identify situations.
While there are so much amazing people that I mentioned above who has done so many great things, I have never seen someone MOST relatable like Brie, so  humble and hardworking in the harsh -no privacy- industry of entertainment, who just bases her life out of goodness and excitement of life and purity. She’s like most of us, she’s awkward and shy, loves pets, video games, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Sailor Moon, fan girls towards other celebs, music nerd and an actual nerd, and just loving life in general.
So it does break my heart that people are targeting her as the subject of everything that’s negative just because she wanted to set a stigma that women can be powerful and is their own person, and she’s had it rough before (as I read/listened/watched her interviews) Here’s a narrowed down of her life:
- Her parents were constantly fighting when she was young, leaving her into a broken home, around 7 years old she moved to LA living in a studio apartment with her mom and sister with the 3 of them with only 1 murphy bed. She’s estranged with her dad until now.
- She’s definitely an introvert, type of girl who sits on the far upper left or right corner in the theatre thinking that she doesn’t block anyone’s view (she actually said this on an interview), had social anxiety attacks since she was young but she knows she loves acting and wants to entertain people, starting with singing in her early years. She prefers doing stuffs alone and creating arts just to keep her mind at ease.
- Because of her passion in acting and her social condition, she was home schooled and focused in acting schools more, thankfully her mother supported her to go to acting schools and just going on auditions. Her singing career didn’t go as much as she hoped, to make ends meet she started DJ-ing just to earn money. Keep in mind Brie did not come from a prestige family with access to Hollywood unlike some of her Marvel co-stars. She started from zero.
- She actually auditioned for Twilight and was told, “Don’t ever bring Brie Larson back here again” for whatever reason. Was also told she wasn’t “sexy enough” for some stuffs she auditioned.
- Even though she loves acting, knowing she’s an introvert, it is the only reason why Brie has never considered blockbuster movies because she was afraid of getting recognised worldwide that it would leave her having no privacy at life at all. Due to this, she accepted mostly indie movies (Most recognisably Short Term 12 or The Glass Castle) but even by doing indie movies she didn’t earn enough money that sometimes she would cry in her kitchen telling her mom that she doesn’t have any money just to buy food.
- She did the movie Room which won her first Oscar for best actress, but in the process in doing so it broke her in half because of her childhood past and trauma. Whilst doing The Glass Castle she also said it was rather personal that she played a character with a broken relationship with a father (Played by Woody Harrelson) is because she never had father-daughter relationship. All the stuffs she did were mostly personal because she felt connected to them. Even Captain Marvel, because she felt that it was a moment in her life where she needs the change to be stronger for herself and Carol has changed her for that.
- Her road into becoming Captain Marvel was almost like a brick to brick road built up for her, as she has acted in movies with most of the Marvel casts. In 13 Going On 30 with Mark Ruffalo, with Chris Evans in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Scarlett Johansson in Don Jon, Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson in Kong: Skull Island and Joe and Anthony Russo in Community. A few reasons she accepted the role of Captain Marvel;  One being when she saw Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, she admitted that even as the movie was just about a few minutes in, she couldn’t stop crying and she asks herself as to why that is, and she realised that this is the stuff I need, we don’t have this enough, where a powerful strong woman was depicted on screen; The other, for the most realistic reason that she did need the money while she was given the opportunity;  The SIMPLEST reason is just to MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY that the character is going to be brought to life; The MOST important of them all is that she wants to break the barrier of herself. She wants to be more out there, spreading positivity and setting an example to people to be stronger for themselves, that people can change for the better, in which in this case: Brie was a completely non athletic person with asthma, she trained for 9 months, almost 3-5 hours a day for 5 days a week at the gym with constant crying because of her hard work and changes to herself, vomited mostly at the gym and also puked during her pilot training. She had bruises all over the place because she did most of her stunts and training (Per her saying, it was ignorance at first because she thought everyone on Marvel was doing their own stunts when they’re not, but she did most of them herself that she was allowed to).
- Now that she has recognition, she’s actually doing more activism and be a spokeswoman into helping people. She even promotes people’s brand and stuffs via her Instagram just to help out simple things.
Please remember, she’s human. She has flaws, but I have never seen her doing/saying anything fatal that depicts resent. Never. And no, Brie is not the first female ever trying to set examples for people, but she is the current one getting the most hate for it just because of Captain Marvel— a film about a female superhero, setting an example for people to be stronger, she did it just to make people happy and half the world is angry at her. WTF. Believe it or not, this is girl actually CARES about people, she would care about you if you actually DO CARE about all the good things that does matter. Being of who she is, Brie is capable of empathising with people, which is something most people don’t have.
Brie wanted to be a better person, SHE DID. When in fact Brie has successfully done that, now people are hating her even more because she’s just a “bigger easier target” because of her role and apparently it is easier to hate someone else than just to be nice or appreciative or grateful in general.
If you’re reading and you’re hating, can I just ask, what has Brie Larson done to your life? And maybe ask yourself what have you done that matters in your life? We can just be nicer to other people, it’s really not that hard to try, you know. Life is just about being kind to each other, there is no point in throwing hate because it’s not your cup of tea, having an opinion to your taste is fine, but giving hate comments about is just being an asshole. Imagine being in her shoes and dealing with all those that wasn’t necessary in the first place. It does take mentality of the size of the Jupiter with that amount of hate, and Brie Larson is still dealing them. Just think if that was you, could you be able to handle it as far as what she’s gone though? Really think about it. Not one human in the world wants to be hated for even the smallest reason, not even you.
As to those who feel like they wanted a change in their lives, if Brie can do it, SO CAN YOU. Stay calm, just be nice and kind to others— even to those who treated you unjustly. Let the action speaks louder than any words will ever do. And be happy of life.
My adoration for her is at the apex at the moment. She is IT.
So I’m just here spreading the love for Brie.

Some slightly-more-detailed musings on 5x06 (though I’m honestly so annoyed that it’s this episode that’s still lingering in my brainspace.)
So, positives first, I suppose: this episode did a fairly decent job of fleshing out Andrea, at least in a ‘I actually care about this character now’ kind of way. I genuinely enjoyed her relationship with Russell, and was surprised when it was revealed that she had powers. (Buuuuut let’s...put a pin in this. We’ll return to it in a bit.)
There wasn’t much, but I enjoyed the Alex, Kara, and J’onn bits that we got. In particular: Alex shouting SUPERGIRL! and Kara hearing; Kara’s heart-to-heart with Russell; J’onn showing up to help Alex, etc.
I like the use of flashback episodes to work around the cast filming crossover stuff, and even though this episode had a lot of....not-great-stuff, it kinda felt nice because the cast is now so BIG that forty minutes devoted to basically just two characters was refreshing? Even if they jumped around the timeline at breakneck pace.
Right, so. Now for the, ah. Less-good.
The whole set-up of the medallion stuff is just...rife with dated, bad tropes. Though, I guess it’s...fitting? That the whitest, richest woman on the show is engaging in stuff like, ‘I know this culture best and I have a right to this ancient artifact’. But the fact that it was just another way to explain why Lena Hates Lying and Betrayal and not, you know, an explicit indictment or commentary on the trope itself is....mmmmm. “Not great, Bob!”
(I’m also having a hard time remembering...did they establish that the medallion was like...alien in origin? It was discussed when Lena was talking about countering Lex’s Kryptonite atmosphere idea. And I know it ended up being linked to Leviathan, but that...sits right up next to ‘the contributions of ancient cultures was ACTUALLY the work of ALIIIEEEENNNNNSSSS’ which...is again, NOT GREAT, BOB, and makes me weary of those ancient alien characters they’re gonna introduce next episode.)
(Some of that is inevitable, I guess, when your fictional superhero world posits that aliens do exist, but I think it’s just. Maybe. Too Many Bad Tropes.)
This whole episode radiated intense Indiana Jones vibes, but of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull variety, which. If you’re gonna commit to Indy vibes. Pick a good one, at least.
Adding to the list of, ‘Not great, Bob!’ we have the whole adaptation of Andrea’s character.
I feel as though Andrea comes across as a very sympathetic character, and by the end I was very firmly in the ‘redemption arc for Andrea’ camp, buuuuuuuuuut I gotta wonder why this particular character needed to be Acrata, given that the show is...very much doing its own thing. That runs fairly counter to the character’s comic roots. In a manner that is understandably offensive.
SPEAKING OF THE END.
Shooting Russell felt so unnecessary.
(I think they recently announced that the character’s recurring, BUT, does that just refer to the episodes we’ve already seen? Will he be relegated to flashbacks going forward? Is he actually Not Dead? Very much hoping it’s the last one, but, uh. Not terribly confident.)
So now we’ve arrived at the Lena portion of the list, AKA, my least favorite part.
There’s been so much Lena content this season, and none of it is really. Making me feel for her. At all.
(It’s achieving the opposite, in fact.)
No amount of additional backstory is gonna make me think that stuff like...faking a home invasion/assault to distract Kara, and threatening Andrea by mind-controlling her fiance to slit his own throat is okay. And I don’t think that the show is trying to garner sympathy exactly, but it’s really got me wondering...where this arc is headed.
I don’t see the show giving Lena a ‘dark’ ending, but they keep piling on all these bad decisions and I don’t...find myself rooting for emotional catharsis and an inevitable heroic turn and redemption, I just want her to get what’s coming to her.
(Man I try not to worry about plot stuff that hasn’t happened yet but I am CONCERNED that all of this will ultimately be more about Lena than Kara and it will be Lena who, in the end, saves everyone thus ‘earning’ her redemption when what I REALLY want is for Kara to be like, ‘you’ve been a bad friend, actually, and the decisions you make are neither my fault nor my responsibility’ and Lena being like ‘OH you’re right, I need Help to deal with both my past emotional abuse and the fact that I’m PERPETUATING that bad behavior as a result of, at best, poor coping mechanisms and, at worst, no coping mechanisms at all’ but HNNNRRRRG, there’s been so little on Kara’s end. I’m really feeling that ‘no fear, one fear’ meme.)
(Okay on the flip side of my doom and gloom proclamation, maybe Kara being slower to forgive William is hinting at potential character growth...that, you know, while it is entirely in-character for Kara ultimately to be willing to forgive/never give up hope that people can change for the better, she’ll also recognize that she’s not to blame and has a right to be upset with someone who is LYING TO HER, MANIPULATING HER, and ACTIVELY PLACING HER LOVED ONES IN DANGER, WHETHER INTENTIONAL OR NOT.)
I HATE THAT THIS EPISODE HAS INSPIRED SUCH A LENGTHY LIST OF THOUGHTS. BAH.
In summary: The cast this year is TOO BIG, so focusing on certain characters is GOOD but there were BAD TROPES and I am VERY TIRED OF THIS LENA PLOT unless it actually leads to GOOD DEVELOPMENT FOR KARA.
Some miscellaneous thoughts about the season as a whole because you know what? We’re already here, so we MIGHT AS WELL:
I really do feel like the biggest problem this season is that they’re trying to serve this big cast of characters AND Do Plot™ so everything is ending up very surface level.
And yeah, I agree with the general feeling of: Not Enough Kara
I do like all the J’onn stuff, though. Yay, Space Dad!
I also liked the premiere because it seemed as though it was setting up a focus on the Lena and Kara conflict as like. This emotional through-line for the season, but so far, Kara’s been investigating stuff and Lena’s been robbing people of their free will so as stated above I can only HOPE (ha, ha) that this will eventually result in the Good Kara Content I crave.
Pleasantly surprised by how much I like William and, as of this episode, Andrea.
Other stuff I’m looking forward to (again in the hopes that it will result in Good Kara Content):
The crossover (YEAH YEAH I KNOW but, I gotta say, because Kara’s the only Arrowverse lead without a romantic partner, we tend to get good Alex and Kara stuff, all things considered. It’s not a LOT. But it’s THERE.)
Winn returning, because good SpaceFam stuff? Maybe?
The 100th episode, which, traditionally, is an excuse to engage in some fan service and nostalgia.
The end of the Lena plot please.
A quick note: I’ve been fairly critical of Lena in this post, but do not take that as an automatic endorsement of any other popular ships/characters.

Did I just spot GRANT GUSTIN around town? Oh no wait, it was just HENRY WALTON JONES, III. Rumor has it that he is the TWENTY-FIVE year old child of INDIANA JONES & MARION RAVENWOOD from INDIANA JONES. I’ve also heard that they’re ADVENTUROUS and RECKLESS, and have ONE younger sibling.
history points:
Henry was born to Marion and a very late Indiana Jones in Los Angeles, California, 1938.
His father had always been very there and back again. Always off on some extravagant adventure. Henry loved to ask where his Dad was so he could mark it off on a world map.
When he was home, he remembered his Dad taking him on treasure hunts and saving his mother, (who really didn’t need to be saved at all). It was his favorite game to play. Adventurer.
His least favorite game happened whenever he was quizzed by his Mother or Father on history if he wanted to have a snack.
Although, eventually he was able to beat every game of that too. With all the reading he always did, it was easy for him to learn... If he wanted to be anything like his parents, he had to learn quick & read plenty.
Though, this made him a pretty lonely kid. Many flocked to him naturally while he was in school, but he hardly had friends that stuck around. He just didn’t waste too much time there. Even if he was friendly.
So, eventually, Indy brought home a German Shepherd/Collie Mix to keep him company. In the tradition of his father-- Henry named him “Shepherd.”
Eventually, it would become his nickname too, especially when he grew old enough to earn an adventurer’s name.
He was a gifted student and being the son of a professor, it was easy to make it into a decent college and follow in Dad’s footsteps.
He became an Archeology Major and begged to be taken on trips with his Dad. Eventually-- He was ready.
From then on out, he was a Jones in training, an apprentice, and just when it came time for him to go out on his own-- he ended up here.
personality points:
Has a multitude of nicknames: Junior, Shepherd, Shep, Three, Walt... Occasionally, he allows people to call him Henry, but only if he knows them well.
Taught to use a whip by dear old Dad, taught to drink and shoot by dear old mom.
Charm runs in his blood, but he maintains the goofiness and kind hearts of both his grandfather’s.
Highly interested in history and some architecture. Will tell you random fun facts.
Honest to the point of detriment. He can be a little blunt on accident.
Reckless in that he will take on any challenge. Planning usually does not come with that.
Has been to many different countries over the course of his life, he loves traveling and seeing the world.
Afraid of commitment. People tend to run off or break his trust easily.
Big fan of animals! He does his best to respect the circle of life and not abuse it.
wanted connections
Partner in Crime - Someone to follow him on every adventure, big or small. He would consider them one of the only people that don’t get offended by him and actually understands his thought process perhaps.
His Little Sister - He took her on too many mini adventures when they were both kids. She’s one of the only people that knows when he’s faking it but is intelligent in her own right too. Maybe a little more street smart where he can be a little book smart. He’s definitely proud of who she’s becoming with time.
Ex - The initial person that broke his heart. Could have been when they were young or maybe things got too serious and he had to run away like dear dad? Either way, he tries to avoid them but he’s unable to.
Crush - He can’t keep his mind off them for very long. They get Henry on a different level to where all he wants to do is be around them. Unfortunately, that spells danger so he stumbles a lot around them, no matter how charming he tries to be.
Enemy - Many people could fill this position. Especially if they’re greedy and disrespectful of culture or hurt others.
Friend with Benefits - He’s a pretty face with a little charm and they’re willing to put up with his bluntness and obsessive talk of history.
