it's so hard to talk about this without sounding like an edgy anti sjw but I genuinely do think people view certain mental health diagnoses as something that makes you cool and quirky and not something that, for people who get a written diagnosis, can lead to medical professionals deliberately overmedicating you and misleading you to the point of neurological damage. thats so cool you "discovered" you have psychosis on tiktok. when I go to see a doctor they read up on me and assume i'm delusional 24/7 and my abuser told cops I can't be trusted because of my mental health issues and they believed him ^_^

I’ve seen a lot of pro-aborts blame pro-life laws for women facing complications in their pregnancy and the doctors not doing anything about it. They say doctors are scared to take care of women because of abortion bans. When pro-lifers say it’s the doctors fault and it’s medical malpractice, they still blame us.

This past weekend my sister-in-law informed me that her pregnant sister had some bleeding. Her midwife told her to visit the doctor and ask for an ultrasound. The doctor told her there was no reason to and sent her home. Her midwife was pretty upset about her doctor ignoring her request and demanded they do an ultrasound. The ultrasound found she has Placenta Previa and is on bed rest now.

According to Journal of Pregnancy, “Placenta previa and placental abruption have long been recognized as major obstetric complications that result in maternal and fetal mortality as well as morbidity.” No law prevented him from doing an ultrasound to make sure her baby was okay and figure out why she was bleeding. There’s always been an issue with doctors not taking women’s concerns seriously. This has nothing to do with pro-life laws and has everything to do with the failure of medical care women receive from the doctors we are supposed to trust. Women deserve better.

I don't get why some still feel the need to put Rose and River in opposition to each other or drag down one to lift up the other when their respective relationships with the Doctor happen at completely separate points in the Doctor's life. The Doctor loving River does not mean they did not love Rose nor that their feelings for River are any less because she came after Rose. You don't have to ship Doctor/River, but you also don't need to see it as some threat to the validity of their feelings for Rose or vice versa.

So, you decided to go and see him at his work since he could tell you what the reason is for these strange new feelings that you have been having for the past week now. As you walk to the entrance of the hospital, you welcome the woman working at the front with her lovely long brown hair, eye bags, and warm brown eyes as you approach the hospital's entrance. "Welcome to South Valley General Hospital, how may I assist you, dear? " She replies with a soft grin as she answers.

"Hello, I'd like to make an appointment to see the doctor today, please," you reply with a smile. Yes, I'll be able to take care of that for you, sweetheart; please have a seat there till the doctor calls. Then she asks me, "Wait you're Geto's friend, right?” "Yeah, does he talk about me a lot?" I ask her as I stare at her in disbelief. "Yes, he does. Don't tell him this but I think he has a little crush on you," she chuckles, looking delighted.

I run to the seat and say "thank you" to her while I hide my face to prevent the blush from spreading to my cheeks. Then the door opens clearing my thoughts as I hear Geto calling my name. I stand up as I wave goodbye to the pleasant woman. “Hey Y/N, it's so nice to see you, you didn’t come just to see me, did you? he asks as he smiles at me. noticing that his comment made me blush, he starts laughing.

"I'm just kidding," he says while grinning. “Even though that blush on you is so very adorable, really how can I help you?” I sit down at the examination table; my heart is still thumping loudly in my chest. As I say “Well, I have been feeling really strange recently like a fluttering in my chest, loss of sleep, and loss of appetite.” He looks at me intrigued as he pulls out his stethoscope and places it on my chest while he listens to my heartbeat, noticing how quickly it beats as he gets close to me.

He then steps back and advises me to breathe softly in and out before placing it on my back. When he is finished, he laughs and appears amused to me. I question him “What’s so funny?” He keeps laughing at this and asks, "So who is the lucky guy or girl?" I turn my head to the side; I look at him with confusion as I say “Geto what are you talking about? Is this a joke?” He then calms down from laughing, he responds saying “You are in love darling, no doubt about it.

So, you gonna tell me who it is or what?” I then begin to flutter in my chest as I say, "I... I can't." Then, in a teasing tone, he continues, "Oh don't be shy now, just use those pretty words of yours." I start to go red completely as I say “Well, the only person that I have been thinking about is … you.” He then blinks and looks at me in full disbelief before replying, "I.. um, oh wow, give me a second."

He covered his face by reaching over and grabbing his clipboard. I approached him getting down to his level and setting down the clipboard to see Geto's deep crimson cheeks. Then with an innocent look, I say “ Suguru, are you okay?” He then pulls me by the collar as he kisses me roughly on the lips. He responds, “Fuck Y/N you have no idea how badly I have wanted to do this.” As I continue to kiss him, I hear the door knock as we push each other back as the woman from earlier says “Gosh, get a room lovebirds.” As she laughs. Geto now staring at her with embarrassment as he says “Shoko I swear to god you will be the death of me.”

on reflection, i think there's a symmetry to, say, doctors who are willing to refer patients to osteopaths or other ""holistic"" healthcare providers and the susceptibility of engineers to certain kinds of crankdom (of the "i-disproved-relativity-in-my-garage" type). both are forms of scientific training of a sort, but they're heavily outcome-focused and not theoretically focused. in large part, this is good! you do not as a doctor need to have a robust theoretical defense of every treatment you provide to patients, and it would be impossible to do so, because medicine is a huge and complicated subject. you do not, as an engineer, need to have a subtle grasp of theoretical physics to build a bridge; you just need to know what the latest developments in bridge-building are.

but it means in both cases you can have people who are skilled in their field, or who even excel, but who don't understand very well why certain techniques work. and in the case of alt medicine, where there has been considerable work to try to obfuscate or deceive people on how shaky the theoretical basis for their techniques are (stuff that literally if you remember your high-school physics and biology at all will make you go, "wait, there is no plausible mechanism for this, that's not how any of this works"), doctors who do not have time to read studies on RCT trials of every type of medicine they have ever heard of will blithely recommend stuff to patients that's actually complete horseshit, especially if the culture around them has been normalizing that woo as part of "holistic" therapy for the last hundred years, spurred on by alternative medicine practitioners and a public with a fear of needles and ~chemicals~ that medical practitioners have not done enough to allay.

it does not help that medicine only emerged very recently from being about 99% bullshit. like maybe at the end of the 19th century at best medicine was starting to be put on a broad-based empirical and theoretical footing--before that it's truly insane the stuff that wasn't just considered perfectly normal medical practice, but was considered serious Science. i mean, this is why we developed double-blind studies in the first place--because theoretical explanations of medical treatments are still necessarily often secondary to the process of finding ones that actually work, so we need really robust mechanisms to avoid confirmation bias or outright charlatanry. and while mainstream medicine is far from perfect in this respect, "alternative medicine" is all far, far worse.

Johnson & Johnson is currently, like right this minute, trying to extend their patent on the TB drug bedaquiline, keeping it out of generic for another four years. TB killed about 30,000 people last week and is the world's deadliest infectious disease.

If this drug does not go generic now it could affect 6 million people in the next four years (the time it would take the "new" patent to run out). Out of those millions of people who get TB, but can't get bedaquiline, most of them will die. From a PREVENTABLE DISEASE.

Why is this happening? Money. But also, because TB is not an issue in countries like the US. We can afford its $1.50 a pill price. But if you live in a poor country, that's too much money to spend on something you need to take for up to four months.

J&J needs to let this drug go public and do its job in places that can't currently afford it. They need to help people, instead of trying to wring the last few drops of money out of one of their many products, at the cost of human lives. @sizzlingsandwichperfection-blog does a waaaay better job of explaining this than me.
