I’ve been wanting to play DnD for so long but damn is it hard when you only have one friend who isn’t even interested

HIHIHI OMG I'D LOVE TO SHARE MY TIPS disclaimer I'm not great at dnd tho XD

For starters i personally kinda made my own group by asking friends if they wanted to play with me through discord and d&d beyond (i don't really have any irl friends)

I think theres discord servers for this purpose too🤔

When it comes to actually playing, I've usually started with a little play test so the party can get comfy with game mechanics, especially new players.

These are usually mini sessions with a little roleplay (say, the party is in a town for a night) and a little combat (eg. Some thieves ambushed the party) and i try to keep these to a max of 2 hours, short and fun :)

For Character creation, the sky is your limit!! I'd reccomend picking a class you think you understand best to start, some of the best classes for beginners are ranger, cleric, barbarian, bard and wizard (I'm a bard player)

Of course, for my new players i usually reccomend they make an oc of sorts first, starting with race and appearance (different races are better suited to different classes, this being said you can play whatever you want)

I'm not super knowledgeable about classes so I'd reccomend doing some research of your own into what interests you!!

Heres an explanation of some different stats:

Strength: how hard you can punch

Dexterity: can you do a back flip successfully (high = yes, low = no)

Constitution: your health

Intelligence: how smart you are

Wisdom: your ability to apply your knowledge

Charisma: how effective your speech skill is

ALL IN ALL THIS ISN'T GREAT AND THERES MANY RESOURCES ON HERE AND OTHER CORNERS OF THE INTERNET BUT THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF DND: Have fun!! If you don't know how something works (as a dungeon Master) JUST MAKE IT UP and keep going:)

After a quick practice one shot with my bf, and getting his criticism, I think I have a somewhat great campaign hot and ready for them. These rpg video game dorks have no idea what kind of lore, monsters, and characters await them until they meet the BBEG: The Mad Prince who is rotting my mind!
