amtransa airways flight 78 was supposed to be a routine flight from san francisco to sydney on december 31, 1999.

the only concern of the crew at the time of takeoff was making sure to avoid possible stormy weather in the skies over the pacific ocean. oh, and the potential of the y2k crisis ! but things went wrong. the next thing passengers knew was the importance of their oxygen masks as they were released and the lifejackets beneath their seats as the water grew closer.

pristine white sand was now littered with the wreckage from the plane, luggage, and their contents scattered. everyone was now an unwilling inhabitant of a deserted island full of mysteries & enemies. from missing passengers to abandoned operations buildings to creatures running amok. this island is not for the faint of heart !

there are definitely some people who are down and willing to kill their tributes! and while we definitely have a plan in place, not every tribute can survive. as we are halfway to full tribute capacity, and people continue to fill out those slots, i strongly strongly advise not to bring a tribute you're going to be too passionate about. we will never ever ever kill your character without your consent, but also know there's only so much we can do! this is a hunger games rp and unfortunately not everyone can live! we will, of course, be killing off all unapplied tributes/npc tributes first ((:

With glazed eyes and hopeful hearts, the lost souls that staked their claim on this unholy ground wondered why no one had done so before… Though, not only was the land lacking, it put off an ominous atmosphere that even a skeptic would steer clear from. NOWHERE is a 21+ roleplay group on discord, inspired by Courage the Cowardly Dog, R.L. Stine's Goosebumps and Fear Street series, cryptozoology, and monster lore of all kinds. { FACECLAIM, AGE, GENDER, [SHE/HER or SHE/THEY] } Is that FIRST NAME LAST NAME? A SCHOOL YEAR originally from HOMETOWN, they decided to come to Ogden College to study MAJOR on an ATHLETIC / ACADEMIC / FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIP (remove if character is not a scholarship student). They’re THE EXCHANGE STUDENT on campus, but even they could get blamed for Greer’s disappearance.

NOTE: This character must identify as a lesbian and should’ve spent most of their schooling outside of the US until enrolling at Ogden College.

ABOUT THIS SKELETON: Their family being long time travel partners of the Morrisons, back in their teen years, THE EXCHANGE STUDENT was the one who taught THE GOLDEN GIRL that maybe she wasn’t straight. Like, so European of them. But Greer never ended up coming out...and The Exchange Student barely spent enough time in one country to make longterm connections, anyway, so it was all left in the past. Even years later, as a student at Ogden College, The Exchange Student couldn’t be expected to spend four years in one place !!! They set off after last spring semester to go off to Europe, blissfully unaware of The Golden Girl’s disappearance. And now they’ve returned, not knowing they were returning to one student missing and one dead. Or did they ??

Their fling left behind them, THE EXCHANGE STUDENT was ensconced within THE GOLDEN GIRL’s inner circle when they both ended up at Ogden - but they spent the last semester studying abroad in Portugal. THE EXCHANGE STUDENT made plenty of efforts to have THE GOLDEN GIRL and THE ICE QUEEN get along in the past - which would certainly have made their families joint travels more enjoyable for all of them. No, not even someone with that much travel experience could bridge that gap.

THE EXCHANGE STUDENT and THE CLOSET GAY had a passionate fling, despite the latter's hidden sexuality. It burned bright and fast, started right around THE GOLDEN GIRL going missing, and ended with The Exchange Student leaving to study abroad. Surely that timing is a coincidence though !!!

THE MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL always was apart of a trio with THE GOLDEN GIRL and THE FALLEN PRINCESS - but they were just as much friends with THE EXCHANGE STUDENT. Perhaps even closer ?? Considering it was The MPDG that The Exchange Student vaguely kept in touch with last semester.

A formidable pair, THE FEMME FATALE and THE EXCHANGE STUDENT. Everyone certainly thinks so, and really, the only one who could possibly compare would be THE GOLDEN GIRL. Pity she's disappeared and will be missing their reunion.

THE COOL LOSER and THE EXCHANGE STUDENT always had the same too cool for this vibe going on, but the latter could never quite understand how they stayed so aloof. Imagine their delight when they found out about The Cool Loser's dalliance with THE GOLDEN GIRL before they left. Surely that's the biggest gossip from the last semester, right ?? ...Right ??

An unlikely duo, THE HEDONIST and THE EXCHANGE STUDENT always seemed to get along. The Hedonist surely will be glad to see a friendly face return to campus, even if it's not the one they were really hoping for - which was THE GOLDEN GIRL, of course.

THE UNFAVORITE had to be unaware of THE EXCHANGE STUDENT's past with THE GOLDEN GIRL, otherwise they never would've become friends when they were kids...Though they did fall out when The Exchange Student was apart of The Golden Girl’s circle at Ogden. But maybe things could change, now that Greer is MIA and The Exchange Student is back.

THE EXCHANGE STUDENT just finished up a picture perfect semester abroad - imagine that social media power combined with THE INFLUENCER's prowess. That's the type of thing that could get attention - and keep it, even with focus constantly on the THE GOLDEN GIRL.

great question 'non and sorry this took so long to answer I had some thoughts and also wanted to gather some links for you to check out !

tips for syfyhq ;

its the year 2000 so get fun with the y2k timeframe when creating a character, there's so much really fun pop culture that I'd love to see explored more !

the rp is not super serious plotwise or in general, I mean we've got dinos with names like barbara, richard, and nessie ! so have fun creating the muse you want to explore the island with. the goal is to have fun with your hobby !

find a survival or creature feature media that you like (examples; lost, the wilds, yellow jackets, jurassic park, tremors, sweetheart, etc) and use that to get character inspiration !

We are pledging a portion of every purchase of Etomaim Rising to refugees.

This book was written for times of strife and war, tidings brought by ignorance.

If you had to describe your muse as a canon Hunger Games character, or mix, who would you compare them to and why? Aphrodite is mostly Finnick adjacent. She’s very charming and alluring and really knows how to read and play people. Naturally, she does have a bit of an ego. However, she’s like Johanna in the sense that she kind of plays the sweet, bubbly, and rosy cheeked as a strategy until they are in the arena. It’s probably like an 80-20 balance between Finnick and Jo!

[COURTNEY EATON, CIS WOMAN, SHE/HER] The 74th Annual Hunger Games are upon us and here comes APHRODITE SALTSHORE, the DISTRICT 4 TRIBUTE. Word around The Capitol is that they’re CHARMING and DESIRABLE but can also be MANIPULATIVE and DECEITFUL. According to sources, they’re 19 and were once described as sea foam, thin white skirts riding up, looks that kill, and lurking near tombstones. What a character! As we always say, may the odds be ever in their favor!

biography

Aphrodite wasn’t born into money. Her parents were older, already graying, well-established and loved within the community by the time they welcomed their first and only child. While Rusty and Eldoris were far better than those in the outer districts, with enough fish to always feed themselves at least, by the standard of Four, they struggled. The Saltshores lived in a small fishing colony, on the outskirts, and near the shore. A place maintaining some old-way traditions over the decades, and where Rusty was only one of a dozen fishermen in town. Him and Eldoris settled down in a cabin on the edge so Rusty could take off to sea whenever he needed. The couple promised each other they’d wait to have children until they were doing better financially, but Rusty was only one man, too poor to hire extra staff and still be able to feed his family. What kind of life was that for a child? Aphrodite’s birth was a miracle, happening in the early hours of the morning, shrouded in darkness near the shore by her home. Eldoris bathed her in the water of the ocean, tucked her inside her shirt, then carried her a few hundred yards back to their home.

Rusty and Eldoris were as loving as they were old fashioned. Aphrodite’s earliest members include her mother spending what felt like hours brushing through her hair so it could be as silky as possible, slaving over old linens to make them nicer for her daughter to wear, so none of the kids at school would know she wasn’t as fortunate as the rest of them. That was never a problem though, from a young age Aphrodite experienced no struggles in forging friendships, beneficial or not. Aphrodite has never suffered lack of attention a day in her life. Rusty tried his best to be a good fisherman, but it never clicked. He taught his daughter to tie knots and carve spears and gut fish while Eldoris, the brains, truly kept them afloat. Then one day– she was struck with genius. Eldoris wasn’t ignorant to the type of attention her daughter attracted. She saw a way out. Forge an arranged union with a wealthy family, and their daughter would never have to struggle like them.

Amoreena Prime was a year older than Aphrodite. Her father had served in the military and quickly climbed in the ranks. When Adonis Prime returned from his service in District Two, he settled back home with a nice pension and got acquainted with his newfound respect and influence. His time in two was inspiring, so when he had his first child, he vowed to train her in secret as a career, as the law forbade it, aching for glory in District Four. When Rusty and Eldoris approached him with the preposition, he took pity on the poor old couple and their sweet daughter and agreed to the arrangement. Adonis remembered how it felt to be up and coming, and he was sure his daughter would become of historic importance. Amoreena would have a beautiful wife at her side one day, as she deserved. It was a done deal.

Aphrodite did as she was told and agreed to the marriage. Sweet sixteen rolled around when she was informed and Eldoris made it very clear this was not optional. Ma and Dad had been good, loving parents, Aphrodite knew this, so she’d suck it up in order to try and give them a better life in return. What she remembered most about Amoreena was her thirst, drowning in the visions of grandeur she’d shared with her father. The girls spent close to every day together, fishing, swimming, collecting shells, training, or preparing meals. Aphrodite learned it wasn’t so hard to love. The 72nd Hunger Games paraded into town before too long, giving Aphrodite an unexpected fit of fear. She’d always known the plan was for Amoreena to volunteer the year she turned eighteen, she’d been made to feel confident in this plan. But as her betrothed triumphantly walked up to the platform, Aphrodite soaked up the sight of her, debilitated by nausea.

For weeks, Aphrodite never got out of an earshot of the radio, television, or anything that could give her a direct update to Amoreena. When she died on night six of the games, so did part of Aphrodite. Folks didn’t see her around town for months, a felt absence. The Saltshores sank back into the depths of their poverty. Aphrodite could only be seen like a ghost in the night, weaving through the cemetery and weeping. She’d learned a lesson in trusting those around her– don’t. The Games and Capitol were completely recontextualized for her. While she mulled over this grief for near half a year, when she emerged at eighteen, it was as if she’d never experienced this tragedy. To ease her own boredom between trading her name in the reaping bowl for rations, she twirled through local shanties, went off with the boys giggling. The entire corner of Four was wrapped around her finger. The year following Amoreena’s slaughter taught her more than ever how to read people, how to get her way. Aphrodite deserved what she wanted after what she’d been through.

That was however, until her name was inevitably reaped. That many times bailing her frail parents out, Aphrodite reckoned it would happen eventually. She took it in stride, knowing from that moment forth it was more than local eyes on her, cameras gave Panem direct access and she planned to accentuate her natural assets as a darling. Even though resentment bubbled, even though it felt as Amoreena’s ghost stood behind her, she planned on returning home at all costs.

Gray clouds seem to be permanently sunken into the sky above Hackenwoods, Illinois, and they come with the feeling there's something rotting inside of you. Or maybe, something rotten.

No one visits here. In fact, I'm pretty sure no one wants to be here. Missing people posters litter the street posts in this small town of less than 6k, and if you're wrestling with the paranoia that something bad is going to happen, you're probably right. For some inexplicable reason, we just are here. And, for some even more inexplicable, insane reason, it's home.
