Sat and thought ”would the DCLA shows work in Sweden?”

And, yes: The general premises I think would be here, but there would be some factors that has to be changed.

Violetta moving around a bunch as a kid would work, but here’s the thing: Homeschooling is illegal in Sweden.

Ok, maybe ”illegal” is not the right word, but to be homeschooled you need to do a LOT of work to even be considered. You need a very special reason, for example, you have special needs and can’t work in a normal classroom. And even then, there’s schools specialized for that, and there’s an option to start schools that have smaller groups of students in the first place.

It’s also that, when starting high school, you choose a certain programme with alignments what you wanna focus on. Science, social studies, languages, etc. There is ofc also performing arts high schools. Although, in difference to the Studio, these schools still have normal subjects like math, languages and stuff. But, On Beat Studio is some college-high school hybrid that doesn’t make sense anyway.

Now, going to high school is not even mandatory, although nowadays, you’re kinda screwed if you don’t go to high school as the job opportunities are way fewer. So, it could be that Germán when they move to Sweden is like ”well high school is not mandatory, so you can just have private tutors for these final years <3” and then find a loophole with the homeschooling and get away with it. In that case, Violetta could sneakily get away and go to a performing arts school and essentially everything would be the same. Youmix is ofc unrealistic that it would happen, but wouldn’t that be unrealistic everywhere? 😉

With Soy Luna, I wanna say right off the bat: Yes, there are roller skate rinks, but roller skating outside will only work during some specific months. This is because we are a country that has snow and ice, which means there is gravel on the ground for half of the years. It’s also more common to have figure skating on ice here (and I have heard that SL originally was supposed to be about ice skating but it got too complicated). I have googled in the past that Sweden has roller derbys, so if they have figure skating on roller skates then maybe some little rink club arranges that too. I honestly think SL makes roller skating seem like a bigger sport than it actually is (although someone in South America is ofc allowed to correct me on that). I’m just saying, I think more of the skating will happen inside if this takes in Sweden, as if it’s outside then it needs to literally be summer for that to be possible.

Blake will also be a little different. First off: School uniforms are not a thing. We don’t have private schools like that (literally, private schools are still free, they just don’t have to follow the normal school corriculum like public schools do). But we of course have schools that are more prestigous and ”snobby”. And in high school, that is about what programmes you have chosen. Most schools have several programmes, and while you’re mostly with your own class taking the mandatory classes for the specific programme, there’s also optional classes like photography and drama that mixes classes and even different grades (just like we saw in S1 of the show). I think Ámbar, Jazmin, Delfi, Matteo and Gastón go the economy programme. Ramiro does not really feel like an economy guy, I’m picturing him more of a humanitary or social programmes guy. Luna, Nina, Jim and Yam def go the humanitary programme. This programme has alignments of culture and language (i think all four lean more into culture). Also, it’s only mandatory to take maths for one year, which I think Luna, Jim and Yam appreciate a lot (although, you can take a higher level math as an optional class if you want to, it gives credits for University, and I think Nina def took optional higher level math classes the other years). The reason I also picked this for them is because I myself took the humanitary programme in high school and the four girls reminds me a lot of my own friendgroup back then (my friend even legit had a similar situation happen to her like Nina with Eric i’m not kidding).

Now, the adoption plot is a little complicated here. In Sweden, adoption from inside the country is extremly hard. We don’t really have your standard orphanages anymore where people just come and adopt a child (last one like that was in the 1960s). Adoption is also extremely hard because the government thinks so much about ”the biological parents”. Most adoptions done here happens overseas… So, the Sol plot is a bit complicated. Roberto can’t really just drop her off at an orphanage. He’d either have to drop her off at a hospital and the adoption goes from there (often if adoption happens in Sweden nowadays, it’s if someone gives up their child at birth. Sol is not left at the hospital at birth, but idk). He could have also left the country again and put her in an orphanage overseas. It is possible that he actually went with her to Mexico and put her in an orphanage there, and then Monica and Miguel were a couple from Sweden adopting her from Mexico, or they already lived in Mexico and adopted her and then moved to Sweden. I think they are in Sweden before they get the opportunity to work for Sharon, as they’d need to speak the same language.

Now, there is not several countries in which you speak swedish, like you speak spanish in LA. No, you speak swedish in Sweden (and parts of Finland). So, instead of having different accents from different countries, you have different accents from different parts of the country. And I have decided that Luna and Simón live in Gothenburg. This is because there are beaches there, and also because when I think of a swedish equivalent of Simón I think of someone who speaks in a west coast/gothenburg accent. Then Sharon comes and asks the Valente family to come work for her in Stockholm, and so they move there. The rest of the plot of SL would work out pretty similarly lol.

Bia is the one that needs to be changed the least, if barely at all. The only thing really to change is that Moondust were roadtripping to Norway or Denmark or Finland instead of Brazil. At first I thought Bia could be half swedish half norwegian or half swedish half finnish. But actually? She can still be half brazilian, it would not really change super much.

Also, Fundom is a space they go to on their free time. Since we don’t see the Bia characters go to school, nothing about that needs changing. Fundom could still very much exist in Sweden and have teens and young adults work and hang around there. The plot would still work out perfectly!

Start your year with DCLA!

Is there a better way to start your year? From January 1st-January 31st, one prompt each day, will be focused on DCLA. While some will be focused on new years or january themes, some days will just be more generic.

These prompts can be used for writing, but also for art, or whatever you wanna do!

Now, here are the prompts. I struggled so much with making a good poster, and my first version was really ugly with just a white background and black text. And I figured, no, I need to fix this. So, I made something more decent looking.

I figured the importance is the prompts, not the style of the poster :) But I still wanted SOMETHING nice.

Day 1: Waking up after New Years Eve. What happened last night at New Years Eve? Did they have a wild party? Was there drama or was it a wonderful night? What’s happening now? How do the characters spend their first day of the new year?

Day 2: Summer vacation from On Beat Studio. We follow the Violetta characters for about half a year every season. But what are they doing in january, on their summer vacation? Let’s find out!

Day 3: Summer vacation from Blake South College. We follow the Soy Luna characters through their school year. But what are they doing on their summer vacation in january? Let’s find out!

Day 4: Summer vacation from school. This is the Bia day, and sadly it just says ”school” as we don’t know their school’s name (since we never see them there). Still, are the characters doing something fun on their summer vacation in january? Let’s find out!

Day 5: A January in the past. When the characters were younger, they had some things happen in january. What? That’s up to you to decide!

Day 6: New Years resolutions - do they keep them? Well, pretty self explanatory. What new years resolutions do the characters have, and have they managed to keep them this far?

Day 7: Bia canon couple on a date

Day 8: Violetta canon couple on a date

Day 9: Soy Luna canon couple on a date

Day 10: On vacation in the northern hemisphere. It’s summer time in the southern hemisphere, but what if they decided to visit the northern hemisphere, where it’s currently snowy and cold (well, I guess unless you go to vacation in California or something). How is it?

Day 11: Someone’s January birthday. SOMEONE must have a birthday in january and you can decide who.

Day 12: Soy Luna non-canon couple on a date

Day 13: Bia non-canon couple on a date

Day 14: Violetta non-canon couple on a date

Day 15: How has the new year been so far? More or less half of january has passed. How are they doing? This day is kind of generic and can help to maybe write a follow-up to a previous day you wanted to write a sequel to.

Day 16: A January in the future. How far in the future is up to you. Are we dealing with the teens now being adults, and being parents? Or even further into the future, are they grandparents?

Day 17: Soy Luna friendship hangout. Just a day where a couple of friends, anything from only being two of them to a whole big group, go and hang out together.

Day 18: Violetta friendship hangout. The same explanation as the one above

Day 19: Bia friendship hangout. The same explanation as the one above.

Day 20: A January deep talk. Some people have a talk that just gets very deep and real. Some angst might be involved, or it might just be a deep talk about something silly.

Day 21: An evening of singing and dancing. If there is anything the DCLA characters love, it’s singing and dancing! How does it go when they meet up in the evening to sing and dance?

Day 22: Summer job. You know, it’s likely someone has a summer job. What do they work with?

Day 23: Violetta family hangout. Any family in Violetta hanging out for the day. Could be any family from the show, and could also be a family hanging out in the past, maybe little Violetta with her parents and aunt, or a family constellation in the future. Maybe your favorite character’s family with their future kids. Or just a family hangout in the present time. Up to you.

Day 24: Bia family hangout. Any family in Bia hanging out for the day. Could be any family from the show, and could also be a family hanging out in the past, maybe little Bia with her parents and sister, or a family constellation in the future. Maybe your favorite character’s family with their future kids. Or just a family hangout in the present time. Up to you.

Day 25: Soy Luna family hangout. Any family in Soy Luna hanging out for the day. Could be any family from the show, and could also be a family hanging out in the past, maybe Luna back when she was Sol with her parents, or Ámbar as a kid (or why not an AU where her and Luna grew up together? 😉) or a family constellation in the future. Maybe your favorite character’s family with their future kids. Or just a family hangout in the present time. Up to you.

Day 26: D+LA day. Any D+LA show and something the characters are up to in january.

Day 27: Alternate universe in January. Go wild! Do any kind of AU of your choice. Does everyone have magical powers? Does it take place in another time period? Is it similar to the original universe but there are some key differences?

Day 28: A January dinner party. Someone is having a dinner party. How does it go? Do they have it inside or outside? Who are invited? Is there drama involved?

Day 29: A day at the beach. They go to the beach and they have some fun there!

Day 30: Summer fling. Is there a pairing you'd like to explore, but you don't see them as fully dating or last very long? Well, maybe they had a summer fling!

Day 31: Planning the rest of the year. What's the plans for the rest of the year for these characters? I wonder if their plans will hold.

It all depends on the group of people.

In the Violetta group...

Naty, Andres and Ludmila would be fully crying

Camila would hide that she is scared, but would actually be super scared

Violetta, Francesca and Maxi would go through every single scenario that might happen next

Diego would be like "ok, I guess this is how I die"

Leon and Broduey would just be very quiet, more or less disassociate

Everyone else idk

In the Soy Luna group...

Delfi and Jazmin would record everything

Ramiro would act like he is not scared at all, but he constantly has to remind everyone that HE IS NOT SCARED, OK?!

Ámbar would try to find the best way to possibly escape out of the roller coaster

Nina would calculate the possibility of every scenario people suggest to her

Jim is so certain they are gonna die so she just leans back and accepts fate

Yam is on a similar pattern, but she mumbles to herself about everything she now will never be able to do due to probably dying. "I'll never graduate university, I'll never thrive as a singer and designer with my own clothing line as well as my own record albums, I'll never get married or have children or dogs-"

Luna and Simón literally do not know how to react so they just scream-sing random songs together to distract themselves somehow

Matteo and Gastón try to calm people. Gastón succeeds, but Matteo just makes people more nervous

In the Bia group...

Bia and Manuel hold each other tightly and will not let each other go. Helena and Thiago do the same

Chiara, Daisy and Pietro are full on panicking

Celeste tries to stay calm and does breathing exercises

Pixie tries to see how likely it is for the roller coaster to kill anyone

Alex films himself and is like "omg guys look I'm in a derailed roller coaster" and uploads it on the internet with the title "I died in a roller coaster?! Amusement park vlog"

Carmín would just be very very quiet and stare into thin air

Mara asks everyone to stop overreacting but is just as scared

Do you think they will ever make any dcla shows like violetta, soy luna, bia?? I hope so!

To be honest, no.

I think that (some) of the disney+ latin american series have been enjoyable, but none have the same attraction those shows had to build that passionate a fandom from.

I think this is because there were so many episodes that follow them day to day, so there's just a lot of content to draw from and you really get to see the characters grow over the course of 2-3 seasons. Unless they go back to that many episodes (and I doubt they will for $$ reasons), I don't think there can be a show that can garner the same type of hype.

Also, this meant more music, more live performances, more music videos, etc. and all of that sparks more fan interest. But don't take my word for it! Maybe a show can surprise us :) I thought when I watched Soy Luna it was the best...until I watched Bia which i thought was the best...until I watched Violetta. So it's definitely possible, I just find it unlikely from what I've seen so far.

I will say this season of Entrelazados did excite me with both it's mystery and music, and I'm looking forward to s3!! And Papas Por Encargo was really sweet and funny so I'm looking forward to s2 <3
