FANTASY HIGH JUNIOR YEAR TRAILER CHARACTER ART BREAKDOWN
The character artist credited for this season on the FAQ is Cait May! Without further ado, let's get into it.
Each character card has the PC art, the PC's name, the player's name, and a couple extra details such as an NPC they're connected to and/or plot points from the previous seasons.
Tumblr media
Here is Adaine's character card! Boggy gets pride of place of course, with his backpack and ESF (Emotional Support Frog) flag. The sword is possibly a step towards confirming the popular prediction that Adaine will multiclass as a Fighter this season. There's also a small sketch of Jawbone in the corner. Adaine's jacket has an owlbears patch on the sleeve!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Fabian's character card follows a similar formula. There's a small sketch of Bill Seacaster in the upper left corner (titled PA-PA), and there are many references to dancing. Fabian holds his sheet. In several places the words Toxic Masculinity have been crossed out! He dances now! One of Fabian's first defining lines is referenced: "I'm here to be great!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not very clear what this ticket is for, but to me it looks like a ticket to a dance recital!
Tumblr media
Kristen's character card is next! The many holy symbols she has previously believed in are seen, a sun has been crossed out, as well as "yes?". Cassandra appears in the upper right corner, while an ear of corn appears in the lower left, not crossed out!
Tumblr media
Cassandra looks vaguely worried, which could be their natural state, or it could indicate that Kristen's questions of faith are still just as present as they have been previously.
Tumblr media
Riz's character card is a lot more detailed than the previous ones. Trailer analysts far more intense than I will have a field day with this, I'm gonna give the sparknotes. Riz takes front and center, with his (un)license above his shoulder! Next to him is a sketch of Coach Daybreak. Several sticky notes with the words Night Yorb appear, as well as references Riz's previous cases. Drawings of Kalvaxus and a Corn Cutie are next to each other. The photo of Pok and Kalina is shown, as is a drawing of Baron. There's also a sticky note with "Jorjug" on it, which probably isn't as important but I certainly enjoy it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Fig's character card features her art for the season, a large Anarchy symbol, and her bass guitar. A small sketch of Gilear is shown, as well as a ticket to what's likely a Cig Figs concert, and a skateboard!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The toe of a combat boot is poking out from behind the paper with the skateboard on it. Burn Towns, Get Money is also written in the corner, which is the name of one of Fig and the Cig Figs' hit songs. The Sig Figs Collective put out a fan song version that slaps, which you can find here! (Tbh you should just check out their whole discography)
Tumblr media
Gorgug and his greatest hits appear on this character card! The 'are you my dad' bit keeps on running. Keep Going is also written several times. The white streaks are still in his hair, headphones around his neck, and his axe gets the most movement we've seen in one of these cards.
Tumblr media
(Gorgug gets a small animation in the transition to his character card!)
Tumblr media
The word metal is shown, as well as a sketch of the metal flower from the very first episode.
There are also a couple of group shots!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at them go! The Bad Kids are back and I am so excited to see where they go this year.

I read once that people should find wine recommendations by looking at prominent sommeliers who already like profiles you like, not because they're objectively correct at wine, but their tastes align with yours and they will likely speak to other wines you would like. I just listened to Tarot Sport by Fuck Buttons because you mentioned it and I really like it, do you have any other music recs in general
oh man this is the nicest compliment ive gotten on my musical taste in a minute! if you like the polyrhythmic aspect of Fuck Buttons where they layer sounds on top of each other until it sound like white noise but if you listen from the beginning with headphones you can still pick out every individual layer, check out Lauren Bousfield. her entire discography is good but Avalon Vales and Palimpsest are my personal favs. if you really like those and need more you can check out some of her earlier work under Nero's Day At Disneyland, specifically From Rotting Fantasylands
if you like having Fuck Buttons on in the background as study music, start looking into old Boiler Room sets on Soundcloud. these don't inherently have much in common other than being good background music but you asked me for recs in general so here are some of my fav sets:
Baauer B2B RL Grime at Ray-Ban x Boiler Room SXSW (warning: this set has the best music but also worst hype woman of all time)
Bonobo Boiler Room DJ Mix (this one was playing as i wrote most of my essays in college)
Purity Ring 45 Minute Mix Boiler Room Montreal (please please please skip to 22 minutes in if you listen to nothing else here, that segment singlehandedly gave me so much more respect for Purity Ring than actually seeing them live in 2012 did)
XXYYXX 60 Minute Set Boiler Room Los Angeles (whole thing is good but skip to 24 minutes in lol)
okay this last one isn't Boiler Room at all but uh. umru ♭⒉♭ fraxiom at Lavapalooza is Umru and Fraxiom doing Minecraft parody covers of hyperpop songs at a concert that happened in Minecraft itself. but it's unironically kind of good at certain points if you have the same kind of brain damage i do where you enjoy Fuck Buttons

[would you save me a spark? we'll light up the dark]
Pairing: Captain John Price x GN!Reader (3rd pov)
A/N: baby's first fic on this blog! Fierce is the callsign for reader. My sister may be a doctor but I'm not one and it's too late to ask her abt medical conditions by the time I'm writing this
Cw: major character death (you, as the reader), grief, medical inaccuracies
Part 2
Tumblr media
He held their body close to his chest. Damn his vest for blocking to feel the last warmth left in their body. He could feel their blood seeping into his sleeves, his gloves. Then he saw it. The necklace he gave them fell out of their neckline alongside their dog tags.
It made a soft cling amongst the loud battlefield. And that's when his heart truly stopped.
He regretted everything. He regretted for not telling them of his feelings earlier than he should. He regretted of the missed chances. He regretted for dismissing the hints.
"Wherever you go, captain, I shall follow." Those were the last words they told him through the comms.
"Goddammit, and here you are...going to a place where I can't follow."
He sobbed. "I'm so sorry...sweetheart."
The spark of his life...now only a fleeting embers in the air.
-
They hummed a tune. One that Price often heard them humming before missions. He got curious and asked them, "I always hear you humming that, what's the title?" The sergeant looked at him with a smile and they grinned.
"The title of the song is Save Me a Spark, sir. It's by Sleeping With Sirens. If you're curious, you might want to check their entire discography."
It turned out, Price didn't like most of their songs except for select few. And Save Me a Spark was one of them. In the privacy of his office, the song often on replay.
One day, Gaz walked in without knocking and he grinned ear to ear when he heard that his captain listening to a certain sergeant's favorite song. When Gaz pointed it out, Price couldn't help blushing and yelled at him to get out. He knew he wouldn't get a good night's sleep that night because obviously Gaz going to tell Soap about their captain's crush toward one of their members. He wouldn't worry much about Ghost.
One day before another mission, the team was preparing themselves. Pulling on their gears and clipping their ammo's to their vests. Price looked at one of his sergeants, his hands still busy with his vest, shuffled on his feet nervously. "I listened to their discography, sergeant but...their music way too loud for me."
The sergeant chuckled instead. "I know, cap. Rock isn't for everyone. It's nothing to be ashamed of." They said as they clicked the last things they needed to their vest.
Price felt his ears reddened. Praying no one noticed, he asked them, "What's your favorite genre then, sergeant?" He felt like it's a silly thing to ask. As if he's going back to high school years trying to make a move on a girl who looked at him weird with that question.
The sergeant put their finger on their chin and hummed. He could hear shuffling behind him and some whispers that he knew coming from Gaz and Soap. The little shits.
"Beside the obvious rock genre, I listen to pretty much anything, sir. A bit of pop, K-pop, hip-hop, anything really. It's a hit or miss too." They said. "If you want, I can give you a playlist of my favorites?" At this, he heard some hissing behind him, "Say yes! Say yes!"
To which he nodded, a bit enthusiastically. "Yes, I would love to."
The sergeant smiled and bumped their fist onto Price's vest. "After this mission then. Hope you will enjoy some of my faves too!"
He grinned. Hard not to, afterall.
"It's a promise, then."
They smiled at Price, made a salute gesture and nodded. "See you later, cap!"
After a short while, he could hear whistles behind him. The other two sergeants of 141 and the lieutenant, most especially the former two were giving him a face of both amusement and shit eating grins. Even he could see the squint on Ghost's eyes. The three of them going to be the death of him.
--
The mission, apparently, went awry. What he thought would be a quick "get in, get out" mission went south real quick. It's a short miracle the five of them made it out alive with only minor scratches and bruises on them. He tended to his brave soldiers, all thanks to Gaz for pulling Soap and Fierce out.
Once they're in the base clinic, it turned out that Fierce got a light concussion and they needed rest. They grumbled under their breath and Price offered to bring them to their room to which Fierce nodded, head still down. Price knew they were gritting their teeth, holding in the headache that came from the concussion.
After checking the other three for the last time, Price lead the way and put his hand on their back for a second, to Fierce to move forward, signalling them it's time for them to rest in their room. They nodded and walked beside Price.
"You must rest right away, soldier. We did some damage to them before things went shit." He tried to assure them. Fierce huffed and just kept walking beside him. Price could see them trying to keep up with his pace and he slowed down for their sake. They just got a concussion after all.
For the entirety of their walk to Fierce's room, they kept silent. One which Price would raise an eyebrow at, as he knew Fierce was quiet talkative even with him. He knew they got concussion but this...is very quiet of them.
As they arrived at their destination, Price said "Is something bothering you, Fierce?". Fierce halted their movement to open the door to their room and looked up at their captain's face, only for them to look into his eyes for a second and then lowered it to the ground.
They wriggled with their fingers then shook their hands away on their sides--Price noticed the tick. "It's nothing, sir."
Price crossed his arms, his stance was a sign of patience, silently urging them to tell him what's on their mind and he would wait for them. It was obvious the captain wasn't going anywhere until he got his answers, they sighed. "I'm upset that I couldn't tell you about my favorite songs right away after the mission, sir."
Price's eyebrows went deep into his beanie. Surprised at the answer as that's not one he was expecting.
He was expecting...some self blaming and ready to give them a piece of his mind if they did. But this one made him flabbergasted.
They both stood in silence, in the hall which thankfully no one was there to witness his moment of weakness. He scratched his mustache, a poor attempt in trying to calm down the sudden thumping of his heart. He uncrossed his arms and put them on his hips instead.
He smiled and patted Fierce's shoulder.
"It's fine, Fierce. There's always tomorrow. How about this, you can come into my office tomorrow morning and we can listen to your favorites together?" He offered.
Please say yes. Please say yes. Goodness, this feeling is worse than being shot in the shoulder.
They beamed. And it was one of the most beautiful sight Price ever laid his eyes on and he subconsciously smiled too. Fierce nodded so fast, their eyes squinted from how big their smile was it made Price worry because the last thing they all need was another trip back to the base clinic.
Then Fierce clutched their head and Price quickly grabbed their arms to help them balance themself. They quickly reassured him, sheepishly, they said "It's okay, cap. I got too excited, nothing a short rest won't help." They quickly opened their door and walked into their room.
But before they had the chance to close the door, Price held it open with his hand, leaning a bit inside and quickly he told them, "John."
Fierce looked up, confusion evident on their face.
"You can call me John...when we're in private."
The sergeant grinned, white teeth on display, and nodded. "I will see you tomorrow...John."

Final A/N: TBH I DIDN'T EXPECT TO MAKE IT THIS LONG and make it a series to boot? Oh god forbid. This fic alone took me almost a week what with work and masters degree I'm currently having. Don't ask when the next update is, but I'm surely hooked w this fic to continue it!

Have we met before?
Were we something more in another life?
Have you ever loved me? I could feel it
If you ever kissed me, would you mean it?
The dim lights of the restaurant felt like they were shining too bright on Y/N’s eyes as she threw her head back, silently laughing at the third joke Jay cracked that night. If it were up to her, she would be laughing out loud, but her wild gesture was already inappropriate enough, and she was wondering why nobody had made a complaint about the two of them.
“Stop it, you’re gonna make me choke,” Y/N said, almost a whisper, her breath running out from all the laughing.
Jay smirked as he watched her dab the tears forming in the corner of her eyes. He then cleared his throat and leaned back as the waiter took away their empty plates.
“Dessert?” he asked her, raising an eyebrow. Y/N immediately waved off his offer.
“I’m too full and too tired,” she sighed. “I don’t even know if I can make it back home.”
With this, Jay gestured to the waiter to ask for the check. “I’ll take you home.”
Y/N pretended to be nonchalant at Jay’s comment. Inside, her heart was beating way too fast for someone who just had a whole meal. She should feel relaxed. Why was she feeling restless?
“You mean you’ll walk me home, right?” she asked, confirming.
Jay tilted his head as he handed over his card to the waiter. “Yeah. Did you think I was going to take you back to my place?”
Y/N looked at Jay right in the eyes. By this point, they had gone on so many outings together, Y/N had lost count. They had not established what was going on between them, but there were times where things would feel slightly awkward and one of them would feel some sort of tension. Neither were sure what sort of tension it was.
“I mean, if you want to, I can…” Jay’s voice trailed off as he finished the payment and slipped his card back into his wallet.
Y/N realized she had stayed silent for too long, so she shrugged and again acted as if she wasn’t bothered. Jay stood up and walked over to Y/N to pull her chair back and let her stand up.
“I can’t skip my night time skincare,” Y/N finally found a valid reason to turn down Jay’s subtle invitation.
Jay nodded and Y/N linked her arms with his as they left the restaurant.
---
“How much do I owe you?” asked Y/N as they both reached the entrance of her apartment.
“Nothing, I asked you to come with me to try out that place, remember?” Jay answered, looking up to her since she was already walking up the steps.
Y/N shifted her legs, trying to find an excuse to invite him upstairs.
“Can I at least offer you something in return? Tea?” asked Y/N, hopeful. “Oh, I got this discovery set from a new perfume brand. You’re into scents, right? Can you swatch them and pick a scent for me?”
The lamest excuse ever, you genius. Y/N was mentally facepalming.
Jay scoffed, seemingly realizing what Y/N was trying to arrange. He then nodded, and Y/N smiled faintly before leading him inside. The short journey to her apartment was filled with silence, and Y/N tried her best to not seem nervous. Little did she know that Jay was doing the exact same thing.
When they walked through the front door, Y/N glanced at the clock and noticed that it was already thirty minutes past midnight. Y/N shuffled to the shoe rack and got out new slippers for Jay to use. She then helped Jay take off his coat and hung it by the front door neatly.
“Tea is right there, and you can just get the hot water over there,” Y/N pointed to two directions with her chin, as she was taking of her heels. “Make yourself at home, I need to freshen up a bit.”
As Y/N disappeared into her bedroom, Jay looked around and decided to just get a glass of water. Just as he finished drinking a whole glass, wondering why he was feeling that parched, he heard Y/N calling him from inside her bedroom.
“Y/N?” Jay called as he knocked on her door once.
“Come in,” Y/N said, her voice muffled.
As Jay entered her room, she was fixing the edge of her hoodie that she just put on. On her vanity, Jay saw a line of skincare and small vials of perfume just scattered on top of the table.
“Here,” Y/N rolled up her sleeves and stretched out both her arms. “I’ve spritzed four different scents, two on my wrists and two here,” she pointed at the inside of her arms before gesturing for Jay to sit on her bed, facing her.
Y/N pulled her chair closer to the bed and then shoved her left arm right towards Jay’s nose. Jay almost flinched from the sudden move.
“Coffee Break,” Y/N said, identifying the scent as Jay took a sniff. She then moved her arm to let Jay sniff the second scent. “Lazy Sunday Morning,” she said again.
Jay tilted his head as he heard the name. “Interesting name. Smells good.”
“Hold on,” Y/N then pulled up her sleeves more before extending her right arm. “Sailing Day,” she said.
Without waiting for Y/N to shift her arm, Jay grabbed Y/N’s wrist and brought it up to his face, letting his pointy nose touch the skin on her wrist.
“What’s this one?” he asked, looking right at her.
Y/N’s brain refused to work for a second. She had to blink twice before finally remembering the name. “Beach Walk… I think.”
Jay nodded. “They all smell good. You’ve got great taste,” he then took Y/N’s other wrist and started sniffing the scents all over again. Y/N’s felt like her guts were doing cartwheels inside her.
“Which one do you like best?” he asked again, adjusting his sitting position. He was now looking more relaxed as he slightly leaned back on the bed.
“If I knew, I wouldn’t be asking for your opinion, dummy.”
Jay chuckled and Y/N thought it was the most attractive laugh a man has ever done.
“I kinda really like Coffee Break,” Y/N sniffed her own wrist.
“It’s nice. But I think the Sunday morning scent would smell good on you,” Jay made a gesture, pointing his chin towards his choice of fragrance.
“Okay,” Y/N sniffed her arm one last time before standing up. “Thanks for the help!”
Jay did not know how to reply to this, or what Y/N actually meant with her last sentence. Was she being sarcastic? Did she not like his choice? Was she subtly telling him to leave?
“It’s getting really late. Do you want to stay the night?”
Jay was an honest man, and if he wanted to be honest, he would say that he would love to and that he was feeling sleepy anyway. But that would sound dumb, so Jay decided to lie.
“Oh, I don’t want to inconveni--”
“Please stay,” Y/N cut him off. Jay merely blinked. “Just make yourself comfortable, I need to do my skincare first.”
Y/N shuffled to the bathroom and Jay took a deep breath before exhaling, trying to get rid of the nervousness, but before he could compose himself, Y/N poked her head out the door.
“You can use my skincare if you want?” she said, half a question, half a statement. Jay found it absolutely adorable.
Moments later, Y/N was already sitting on her bed, leaning on the headboard, her legs stretched out under the blankets. Beside her, Jay was already wearing Y/N’s biggest t-shirt, his face already prepped with the very same line of skincare Y/N was using.
As they both talked randomly about a wide arrange of topics, Jay found himself melting into the bed and finally finding a nice position to lie down. Y/N chuckled as she saw him making himself comfortable.
“You’re already sleepy?” she asked, noticing the clock was now showing that it was almost three in the morning.
Jay yawned and immediately seconds after, Y/N yawned too. “Looks like you are too.”
Y/N rolled her eyes and then noticed Jay touching his lips. She saw the split on his lower lip, the one he always mentioned would happen if he forgets to put on lip balm.
“Did you not use a lip balm?” Y/N was already up on her feet and searching through her vanity.
“I forgot to bring mine,” Jay said, his eyes following her movements.
Y/N climbed back into bed holding a tiny jar. “I swear by this thing. It’s a lip sleeping mask, you put it on and then in the morning when you wash it off, you can go a whole day without lip balm.”
She held it over his chest as he was still lying down, but Jay did not move at all.
“I’m very comfy right now,” he said, voice lower than usual.
“I can see that,” Y/N replied, chuckling. “Fine, I’ll put it on.”
Jay watched Y/N carefully dip a finger into the product, and as she was about to touch his lips, Jay grabbed her wrist.
“Are you already using it?” he asked.
Y/N frowned, looking confused, but she still nodded. In an instant, Jay propped himself up with his arm, pulled Y/N by her arm, and gently kissed her lips.
“There,” Jay said as he took the product away from Y/N’s hands, setting it on the bedside table. “Skincare is done.”
As he settled back in bed, he almost jumped when Y/N pulled him back closer to her face and started kissing him again. His hands were awkwardly hovering around her before it finally registered, and he then placed his hands on her waist. She kissed him deeper, and he reciprocated, but when she started straddling him, he had to pull back.
“Sorry, I…” Jay cleared his throat as he tried to find the right words.
Y/N shifted in her position and decided to lie down beside Jay, facing him. “I’m sorry,” she said, looking guilty. “I thought you…”
“I do,” Jay cut her off even when he was not sure what she was about to say. “It’s just… I like you a lot.”
Y/N’s worried face started to turn into a smile. “Okay?” she replied, asking for clarification.
“I really don’t know how to make this not sound lame,” Jay shifted and turned himself towards Y/N. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “If this happens, I don’t want us to be just friends.”
Y/N frowned, and Jay realized that he needed to elaborate more.
“I like you a lot… Wait, I already said that,” Jay’s eyebrows furrowed and Y/N started chuckling.
“You don’t want us to be friends with benefits?” Y/N decided to shoot the question. Jay didn’t answer, confirming her thoughts. “What do you want us to be?”
“Maybe call me ‘baby’?” he replied, unsure. Y/N understood perfectly and leaned in closer, resting her chin on Jay’s shoulder.
“Okay,” Y/N said, voice muffled again. “…Baby.”
Y/N could practically feel Jay smiling from the proximity of their faces. “I like you a lot too, you know.”
“Good,” Jay nodded. Y/N laughed.
“Is this okay?” Y/N asked as she moved closer, hugging Jay from the side.
Jay put his arms around her and started stroking her back. “Of course.”
Y/N looked up and planted a chaste kiss on Jay’s cheek. “Goodnight, baby.”
Jay kissed the top of her head, and as the night grew silent, the two of them drifted off to sleep.

Izzie’s One of Us is Back Celebration (Day 5)
missing moments: maeve bakes cookies with addy before jake’s trial
story under the cut
The text from Addy flashes on my screen, and it startles me awake. I'm curled up on my window seat, my laptop open in front of me. Apparently I had fallen asleep while working on a paper for my history class. It takes a few moments for me to figure out who Addy even is, and once I do I have to reach forward and wiggle my finger on my laptop's trackpad. The screen lights up, displaying the time: 12:23 am.
"Ugh, Addy," I mumble, unlocking my laptop to read the text.
wanna bake cookies w me
I check the delivery time just in case, sigh at the confirmation that she did indeed text me this early in the morning, and then respond.
are you,,, okay?
Her response is instant.
i don't want to be alone and no one else is awake
I should be honored that Addy thought of me. We’re not close, honestly we hardly know each other, so it means a lot that I’m someone she’d turn to in a time of need. But instead I’m just irritated. I watch the gray bubble as she continues to type. And when her text comes through, I know that I have no choice but to tiptoe downstairs, sneak out of the basement door, shift my car into neutral, roll it down the street, and drive to Addy's apartment.
jake's trial is tomorrow
"Your parents aren't going to be angry, are they?" Addy asks me for the umpteenth time. We're in her kitchen, the track lights entirely too bright for my liking.
I shrug nonchalantly. "I texted Bron, she'll cover for me. And anyway, my parents'll probably be overjoyed at a little bit of teenage rebellion." At the mention of my sister, I realize that I haven't seen Addy's sister anywhere. Her shoes are gone from the tray by the door, along with her purse. "Where's Ash?"
"At Mom's place, trying to get her to calm down about Jake. Apparently she still likes the guy."
"Well then screw her," I say without thinking whether I should.
Addy looks startled for only a moment at my uncharacteristic outburst, but then grins. "That's what I'm always saying, Maeve."
We decide to make chocolate chip cookies, and Addy hums as she cracks two eggs into a bowl. I'm across from her at the island packing brown sugar into a measuring cup. I keep sneaking glances at her, checking to make sure that she's okay, and to my irritation she looks fine. I'm tempted to ask her why she felt the need to drag me out of my house this early if she was just planning on going through Taylor Swift’s discography while baking cookies. But I hate being pressed when I'm upset, and I don't want to force Addy to talk if she doesn't want to. Especially since I don't know her well. She's Bronwyn's friend, not mine.
"I'm not insane," Addy says suddenly. I jump, startled.
"Sorry?"
"I see you staring at me, Maeve."
I smile. "I don't think you're insane, Ads. I just want to make sure you're alright. You seemed pretty stressed out earlier."
Addy tosses the egg shells in the trash and moves on to the four. "That's sweet." She doesn't say anything for a long while, she just spoons flour into a measuring cup. Finally, just as a sleepy fog is starting to settle over me, Addy speaks, startling me again. "Am I wrong, Maeve?"
I squint at her. Somehow, in the last few minutes, the cookie baking had fallen just onto Addy. I had settled onto one of the cushy island chairs, my head propped on my hands. "Are you wrong about what?"
"About..." she trails off and waves her hands around. She's got a wooden spoon in one, and I let my eyes trail over to the fully mixed batter in the bowl in front of me. I scoop out a little bit of dough. Unlike Bronwyn, Addy lets me eat it. "Everything I guess. I wouldn't have had to deal with any of this stuff if I hadn't cheated on Jake. And maybe Simon would be alive. And maybe then all the stuff we went through wouldn’t have happened, you know? And I know that people are all looking at me as the person who ruined a promising teenage boy you know? And like… what if they’re all right?”
“Addy. No. No they’re not,” I say forcefully. I’ve heard this all before, from Bronwyn. About how she shouldn’t have cheated. How she should have tried harder. Or even just accepted the grade. How she should have made sure that Simon got onto stupid Model UN. I’ve seen the look in Bronwyn’s eyes that I see in Addy’s, the same desperation, the need for someone, anyone to tell her that this wasn’t her fault.
Addy looks at me guiltily. “But what if they are?” she croaks.
I shake my head, reaching over the bowl to take one of her hands. She jumps, startled. I’m not one for physical contact, and she knows it. “Listen to me, Addy. Jake was an abusive asshole who deserves what’s coming to him. He got so angry over one thing you did that he tried to get you put in jail. You know normal people just get angry for a little while and then move on.”
“Like Ash and the vase,” Addy mumbles.
“What?”
“Nothing.
I shake my head and continue. “Addy, the person in the wrong is, and always will be, Jake. If anything, he was trying to ruin a promising teenage girl. He wanted to wreck your life because of the only choice you made on your own during your relationship. And it doesn’t matter what the rest of the world thinks because the rest of the world is stupid! You are more than Jake Riordan, Addy, and it’s high time you realized that.”
I take a deep breath, finally out of words, and energy. Addy’s looking at me oddly, and I can’t tell if she’s upset with me until she narrows her eyes and rolls her shoulders back. “You know what, Maeve? That was exactly what I needed to hear. Fuck Jake. And my mom. I’m finally doing what makes me happy.”
“Exactly.” My eyes wander over to the cookie dough, and the clock on the oven. “Now, for the love of god can we finish these cookies? It’s two in the morning.”
Addy laughs, and picks up the bowl. “I was a little hysterical earlier, huh? We’ll bake these later, Maevey, let’s just go to bed now.”
I follow Addy to her room, and within seconds of climbing into her bed she’s fallen asleep. I’m about to follow suit, but before I drift off, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement. For the first time in a long time, I’ve made a friend all on my own.

Convention haul! There wasn't barely any BG3 merch and the only thing I was interested in was gone before I found the artist's table. Still, my poor wallet...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First is the last volume of a very cute fanzine I've been reading for years, two Ace Attorney prints and a DS charm with the least heterosexual lawyers ever, all by the Wonderpun folks, Paula and Diego, who I barely see once a year for five minutes but are really lovely and funny people. They are exquisite pun artists and regale us with fanzines solely dedicated to them, not to mention the constant stream Diego posts on Twitter. They also make assorted merch for Pokémon, Ace Attorney, Yakuza, Resident Evil... There's a ton, check them out yourselves. Here's their online shop. All the JJK stuff is from an artist that didn't include any kind of business card and now I can't send you to his social media. OTL The print and Geto charm are for a friend.
As if this were exonerating at all, I feel I should stress that the fanzine and all its extras were already paid for because I joined the crowdfunding campaign this summer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also picked up a cheap set of dice and Fire Emblem cipher cards because you know, it's been a long time since I spent any real money at a convention. Prices are inflated, you can buy everything off the internet nowadays, and I had left the Artist Alley pretty unscathed, so I knew I wasn't going to spend much more.
Then I found a retro videogames stand with Japanese imports. They had Vita games. Japanese otome Vita games.
Tumblr media
THEY HAD THE ONE HAKOUKI GAME I'VE WANTED TO GET FOR 10 YEARS WHAT THE HELL
They also had Amnesia World for the same price and I thought about going back for it if I didn't spend a lot the following three days.
One shop had a bunch of YYH figures, including two I'd never seen of Hiei and Kurama that put together replicate the cover page of the Two Shots chapter, and sent a video to a friend who's a huge Hiei fan but couldn't make it to the con to ask if I should get it for her. She took three days to make a decision. More on this later.
After this, we found a place that sold vintage haori and I kind of fell in love at first sight with one. The sign said they were 30€ and up, but I have a vintage silk haori with some damage on the sleeves and that one was already 50€. I'd never seen one in good condition for less than 60€. Knowing that the price would be way out my budget, I asked anyway.
It was just 30€.
Excuse the shitty picture, but !!!! Those cranes!!! The lining!!!!!
Tumblr media
And remember the lady who ran out of her stand to do my hair? This below was the result. 10/10 marketing tactic.
Tumblr media
At this point I'm repeating over and over inside my head "This is fine" like the dog from the meme. I'm getting extra pay this month, no harm done, it's not like I spend money the rest of the year. This is it, I've already seen the entire venue, I'm immune to temptation, I'm probably not getting that second game. <-this is not foreshadowing
Before calling it a day, I asked my friends to try and find again the retro games shop to remember exactly where it was in case I wanted to go back, because the next days were going to be much busier and it's always difficult to move with so many people.
Turns out on the way there there was another import shop I had glossed over because it sold mostly trading cards and CDs, but I went to look at the table anyway because haha what's the harm you already know where this is going. (⊙x⊙;)
Tumblr media
The harm was basically half the recent group discography of Quartet Night. ಥ_ಥ They were pretty cheap, but I painted over the price because I'm still embarrassed and pissed, why the hell did I have to look. I am now the not so proud owner of the Quartet Night single where they dressed the idols as bullfighters without shirts and I can't even be angry about it because the song was good. Look at this. The second hand embarrassment is killing me. Anyway! Not getting the game for sure.
The next two days passed without any further damages to my wallet, which were admittedly quickly forgotten as soon as I got tackled by the girl I totally don't have a crush on when she saw me dressed as Hancock and whose dinner I paid for only because she treated us to a lot of places when we visited her city this summer. That night, before the last day, I had to insist to my home-bound friend to make up her mind already because I couldn't be glued to the phone while wearing cosplay, pushing a wheelchair and socializing with people I only see twice a year.
I'd decided the first day I'd get the Kurama figure only if she told me to get her a Hiei as well. She sent me a text past 12 AM saying she wanted it. In the morning I receive a message from the friends I was arriving to the venue with every day saying that after three days they cannot fucking move and are tapped out. I cannot fucking move either because Hancock's shoes destroyed my feet, but I go anyway, as soon as I can, because I'm a woman on a mission to retrieve a friend's husbando.
I went straight to the shop before joining up with anybody else and the Hiei figure was gone from the display case, along with another Hiei, the only Kuwabara and one Kurama. Mission failed. I asked one of the sellers about the Kurama one and she told me all except the one on display were sold out, so there was no box, and it was for the best because I was able to store him inside my bag. Here he is. I'm jealous of his sweater.
Tumblr media
After that, I joined my totally-not-a-crush for the rest of the morning and went to a panel where they gave us a bit of sake and Kobe beef while we waited for our other friends. The rest of the day went well, we saw a lot of people and said goodbye to everyone, and instead of going to the Korean BBQ place we had planned, the remaining four of us moved the dinner to the sandwich/pizza/crepe place across the street from our incapacitated friends.
I am now taking a vow of poverty until April.

NCT 127 ☆ Fact Check
album review. released: October 6, 2023
9 songs ; 39 minutes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
overall: 7.6
nct 127 the conquers of my little kpop heart, they made it to the end. round of applause for them! and then a separate round of applause for this album! doyoung breathes life into this album i swear, he's singing like they deprived him of it for years.
disclaimer: this is all opinion, im no critic this is for fun <3
☆ = favorites
1 Fact Check | 7/10
great opening. solid. nothing to write home about. i really like yuta's part: "check that, check that, I'm fine..." like mmhm i'm listening. not they best title track but like not they worse idk
2 Space | 8.5/10
giving firetruck album (still can't believe they named it the first mini album) the chorus just makes me stop and listen, omg they was showing out. this also when doyoung starts steppin. jaehyun does his lil thing too, his falsetto’s sound pretty here.
3 Parade | 8/10
taeyong needs a raise, make him a billionaire so i have a reason to hate him. johnny’s little negativity part surprised me and I was like oh god but it’s grown on me. also rapper jaehyun is always a treat. “what’s next? im so excited!” this girl is fun and entertaining!
4 Angel Eyes | 5/10
fun. i love lil boy band bops, taking me back to 2012 one direction, but like there’s better boy band bops out there,,, so oop. they put mark’s part at the end bc they knew i would’ve skipped it sooner.
☆ 5 Yacht | 8/10
wish it was still summer so I could enjoy this and be warm. mark and haechan’s “lovin it” and doyoung and taeyong’s “lovin it” should be studied for the affects it can have on the brain. what me and this song got is personal.
☆ 6 Je Ne Sais Quoi | 8/10
“we move to the new world, new world” like okay real! bags packed let’s go and on our way to the new world we get lost at the second verse then the bridge but the destination so good i barely even notice!
☆ 7 Love Is A Beauty | 10/10
breathtaking honestly. haechan just comes in so smooth and easy almost teared up sers. johnny's voice makes me blush fr just yeah lol. everyone sounded so good together, whoever mixed this needs a pat on the back and a certificate <3. another one where doyoung whispered his sad little love secrets into our ears. then mark just rocks us out like little love babies, what more can a gal request from life.
8 Misty | 7.5/10
Moon Taeil I miss you dearly, please answer my letters. another amazing group effort. johnny where you been all my life, sing to me more! This would’ve been a good album ender.
9 Real Life | 6/10
because of the strings and the fact they let doyoung bring it in like that, it gets her score. johnny pronounced tf out that "real life" love him for it king.
SERIOUS THOUGHTS
i dont mind turning back members to amplify other members. some people were leant more to harmonies and layering, and with so many people in a group that’s how it should be. I miss when being a visual was like an actual position in groups aka if you couldn’t sing you barely did! Nct doesn’t have that problem (now 👀) everyone has a nice voice.
127’s musical progression from the trash album that was Regular Irregular to this is truly astonishing. Fact Check is a very cohesive piece of work and fits into their discography perfectly.
Shoutout to NCT 127 and they music! Our last true visionaries.

I should confirm my alive status here as well from time to time, so why the hell not, let’s about the music like I promised last time! It’s mostly thanks to @coverteyes who has this really awesome playlist for her fic I’ve been reading (and I much recommend checking both, especially if you need your VH fix!)
So I was reminded yet again that I had also started creating a playlist, although it’s difficult... mostly because I find it tedious looking for some new tracks and mostly just play the same things over and over again, with the occassional switch to what I used to play over and over again a few years back, hah. Not easy finding any new cool songs like that.
But here’s one song that always stuck out and reminded me of the fic whenever it came up on shuffle, and it’s Florence and the Machine’s
Heartlines
I love both acoustic and studio version (to the point I cannot say which one I prefer) and I will even be as tacky to paste the lyrics here cause this is the true blog of shame as you know:
Oh the river, oh the river, it's running free And oh the joy, oh the joy it brings to me But I know it'll have to drown me Before it can breathe easy
And I've seen it in the flights of birds I've seen it in you, in the entrails of the animals The blood running through, but in order to get to the heart I think sometimes you have to cut through (but you can)
You can, we can, we can
Just keep following The heartlines on your hand Just keep following The heartlines on your hand Keep it up, I know you can Just keep following The heartlines on your hand, 'cause I am
Odyssey on odyssey and land over land Creeping and crawling like the sea over sand Still I follow heartlines on your hand
This fantasy, this fallacy, this tumbling stone Echoes of a city that's long overgrown Your heart is the only place that I call home Can I be returned? You can You can, we can
Just keep following The heartlines on your hand Just keep following The heartlines on your hand Keep it up, I know you can Just keep following The heartlines on your hand
What a thing to do Ooh, what a thing to choose But know, in some way, I'm there with you Up against the wall on a Wednesday afternoon
Just keep following The heartlines on your hand Just keep following The heartlines on your hand
Keep it up, I know you can Just keep following The heartlines on your hand 'Cause I am
I pretty much delved into Florence and the Machine discography only a few years ago (literally saved my sanity writing the thesis back in 2019). So by the time I discovered the song I had many of the scenes in my head or even on paper already... and I remember I really wanted to immediately gush about how well the imagery and everything fits the fic (and also Esca in general), at least in my head! But well, I didn’t, cause noone would understand at that point... but it was almost ridiculous, I literally had a later scene that featured reading someone’s hand? Echoes of the long lost city? C’mon... Cut through to get to the heart? In some way I’m there with you? I could just point out a draft scene for almost each and every of the lines and practically went full vincemcmahon.gif
Actually, I would love to experience that feeling again sometime, so if anyone has a music tip, please do let me know, haha.
So I still do not know if I will actually make a playlist but I at least wanted to post about this... you’ll fully see what I mean later!
On a not so unrelated note, regarding my months of executive dysfunction and the new chapter -- with the gracious help of @yilinglaowhoops we are about 95% done and I swear I want it to be done ALREADY more than anything. It will be a true disaster though, don’t say I didn’t warn you (just kidding, whoever still reads probably knows what they can expect by now).
That’s it from me I guess, have a great week, everyone!

Kpop title track ranking: BoA
In this series I’ll be ranking kpop groups/soloists title tracks based on my taste.
Next up is the legendary BoA! If you are a new kpop fan and have not really listened to BoA's songs, please, do yourself the favor of checking her songs out. Her discography is diverse, so I assure there is something for everyone! With that out of the way, let's get to the ranking, shall we?
One Shot, Two Shot - It's cheerful, catchy, and easy to listen to. What else could I ask for? It just is captivating to me and I really really like it!
Only One - A classic for a reason. The whole package just works. It's just so well executed break-up story and the instrumentation is so so pleasant with BoA's lovely vocals.
Forgive Me - Well. I have been just flat out wrong about this one. I thought I didn't like it but now listening to it, wow it's great! The rock influence feels so fresh here. The rap feels maybe a tad unnecessary for me but other than that this is really cool and I have to give it the credit it deserves.
Hurricane Venus - My first BoA song! Severe amount of autotune but I can't help that the nostalgia makes me forgive that.
Girls On Top - Obviously the age of the song shows heavily but it just is so badass! Especially considering when it was released.
Better - Better was better than what I remembered. (yes, I'll see myself out) It has way too much catchiness to it for me to pass it by.
Copy & Paste - Admittedly not one of those songs that I would have listened to a lot but something in it makes me think it's pretty cool and I should have listened to more to it.
Woman - Cool and adult. Not just my personal favorites but undoubtedly deserving this spot.
Kiss My Lips - Just so well done song. Not thematically my fav but I can't ignore the catchiness of this one either.
My Name - My Name is undoubtedly cool. Gotta like it. No.1 - I mean this song was hugely popular for a reason. It's an easy to listen to upbeat number.
ID; Piece B - The age of the song is easy to spot. But still it's cool. And oh my was she good already despite being incredibly young.
Moto - I have to admit I only recognized the chorus. Hence, even though it sounds very cool, I can't lift it above the songs that I have listened to more. But clearly I should listen to this more often!
Atlantis Princess - For this one I don't have any personal nostalgia that would bump it up a bit. It's a perfectly fine song but for some reason I haven't really been the biggest fan of it personally.
Starry Night ft. Crush - Well here's one that has clearly completely went past my radar. Not the most interesting song either, so I'm not too sorry about the spot at the bottom.
Other songs needing a mention: Encounter - This was love on the first listen. Such a great one, highly recommend checking this one out! Shattered - It took me a while to fall for this one but it really is great. Camo & Nega Dola - Such a great ones that ended up not being title tracks like they should have been for no apparent reason. Valenti (Korean version) - For some reason this was the version I heard first and now it's the one I exclusively listen to. Energetic, Eat You Up, I Did It For Love, Did Ya - They very much sound like the western radio hits of that time and that's what they should have been. They sound nostalgic to me and the English is not an issue in these songs. Just impressive. Only downside here is that official versions of the bsides/music video-less songs seem to not be anywhere =/ Hence I'm not linking Did Ya here.

A Bit About Me:
Something I do regarding kpop songs, mini albums and full albums is that I mostly listen to title tracks only. I follow about 200 kpop artists (including groups, sub units and soloists) give or take, so I limit myself to the title tracks so it's easier to check out their releases.
Still, I want to listen to all of their discographies, hence why I made this series.
My History With Red Velvet:
Red Velvet was actually one of the first kpop groups I ever listened to back in 2016, when my friend first recommended "kpop" to me (she gave me a list with boy groups and one with girl groups, I chose Red Velvet and Seventeen, so she sent me some of their songs). Their first song I listened to was Dumb Dumb but at the time they had already released Russian Roulette.
I only went out of my way to learn more about them a few months later and I found out Wendy and I actually have the same birthday ^^ I already loved her voice so that was the cherry on top for me, so she's been my bias ever since.
This is not at all my first listen of their discography, I listened to all their songs back in 2017 with the release of Red Flavor and then kept up to date with their new comebacks. I just wanted to revisit it because there were still a lot of songs I wasn't familiar with and because they just released their 3rd Full Album - Chill Kill - after 6 years, so I wanted to do this in honor of the successor of Perfect Velvet 🤭.
If you've followed me for a while you will know that I've been jumping and screaming and fangirling (gender neutral) about this album and how Red Velvet is one of my favorite groups of all time. So, yeah. This post comes with a ✨️ favoritism warning ✨️.
This also turned into an excuse for me to fangirl (gender neutral) about Red Velvet. Enjoy ^^
Happiness
Now, Red Velvet doesn't have many singles in their official discography (counting their korean releases they only have Happiness and Be Natural), which I think is for the best. Of course releasing multiple singles is more of a recent thing with 4th gen and the streaming era, but I personally think Red Velvet benefits way more with longer releases.
Happiness as a debut single is a solid choice and became a staple (at least in my opinion) when talking about debuts. I think it's a great display of their 'Red' side and introduction to the group. Which other group could pull off the "Shine On Me" bridge just as good? I really like the song because of the "fullness" of the sound, you can hear and feel the amount of layers and it doesn't feel like there's an empty space (which is my preference over all, though of course there are great songs out there with the minimalist and 'empty' sound).
The melody is nice, the chorus is catchy, the rap is good AND this is a socialist anthem.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Be Natural
An interesting SM tradition is giving their girl groups (at least starting with f(x)) a remake song for their first comeback. I'll say that most times it's not really a successfull strategy, but for Red Velvet it really worked out. As the predecessor of Automatic, Be Natural is a great introduction to their 'Velvet' side. This song choice was basically perfect, plus it gave us "Boomin' system, uh uh, TY track, TY track".
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Ice Cream Cake
It's not common to add a new member to your group, and it definitely wasn't common back in 2015. Still, I truly believe Yeri was the best thing that happened to the group as a team and as a family. Besides the min heejin (*exhasperated sigh*) thing, I also think it was a good introduction.
Now, this mini album isn't my personal favorite, but I think it was what stablished the 'Red Velvet Sound' and gave us their blueprint and *really* introduced Red Velvet to the industry. I love the arrangement choices and sounds used here and my favorite song is Something Kinda Crazy. Over all, great 1st mini album.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
The Red
Now, here's something I wish more groups did: it's not for everyone to release their first FULL album within one year of debut, and thank god they did. It really is the pinacle of 'The Red' side, and all the songs are SO fun. It has a very light (as in laidback) sound but very heavy and hard-hitting sounds (especially with the use of bass and backing vocals, as in Time Slip). I LOVE the production choices and the sounds they used - early Itzy definitely took some inspiration from here. My favorite song is Red Dress, and it's definitely one of my favorites from their entire discography.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
The Velvet
Honestly... when I first listened to this EP a few years ago I didn't give it much thought... but holy shit I do not know what happened now. This mini album (which SHOULD'VE BEEN A FULL ALBUM) is SO cohesive. With 4 original songs, 1 remake (I think) and 3 remixes, SM really encaptured the 'Velvet' sound and made a masterpiece. This really blew me away. These songs are so good, but above all, SO well put together. I'll definitely come back to these songs more frequently now that I revisited them.
I just can't explain what happened, I just now that this mini album has that magic sauce, the flavor, the spice to do what it has to do, and what it did was slay in a ballad way. My favorite song from here is probably Light Me Up, but First Time is a close second (no pun intended). This was such a suprise to me that I never would've expected to put our first 5-star-rating here.
Also, fun fact: this is their first title track where they sing separately and don't share a chorus.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars)
Russian Roulette
Okay... I think for me, in every discography there's always a mini album that I think it's cool but I just don't vibe with it, and Russian Roulette is that for me. I like most of the songs (and it's REALLY hard for me to actually dislike a song) but I really didn't vibe with it. It didn't catch my attention and I almost gave it two stars.
My problem with this release is that it didn't expand on anything, it didn't explore anything from Red Velvet's discography, and dare I say, it's a bit generic in a few (2? I guess) songs. Still, I can't deny it's well put together and I still like most of the songs. My favorites are Some Love and Bad Dracula, and I have a lot of fun when listening to them. Still, it's not enough to give it 4 stars, but it did raise them to 3.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Rookie
When I first listened to Rookie (the song), I didn't like the chorus that much because of the repeating rookierookiemysuperrookierookierookie. But, god, that chorus instrumental is so fun. As a mini album, I think four out of six songs are GREAT together. Of course this release gave us Body Talk, known as the first b-side crowned by fans as The Best Red Velvet B-Side, but it doesn't really fit this concept, even if it's my favorite song from here. Same goes for Last Love: I don't think giving Wendy a solo plus a ballad one was the best idea.
Still, I enjoy the first four songs way too much to give it a lower score, they fit too well. Also Talk To Me is the introduction of my LYRE girls to the kpop industry ^^.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
The Red Summer
I don't really think I have bad things to say about this mini album. I enjoy all songs individually AND as a collective. This was also their first release that I listened to fully, and in a way it solidified Red Velvet as one of my favorite artists. I don't have much to say about it besides that it slays (in a fresh and summery way). My favorite song is Mojito.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Perfect Velvet
.............. do I even have to say anything?? Yes I do because most people don't know how in love I am with this album.
I love everything about this album (except the packaging, maybe): the songs, the concept, the mv, the photos, the story, the sound, the genres, the outfits, absolutely everything. It really is PERFECT Velvet. This album is forever my favorite, it's literally a core memory for me. I don't know what else to say.
ALSO MY USERNAME LITERALLY CAME FROM THIS ALBUM!!!! MOONLIGHT MELODY IS MY BELOVED.
I only have compliments. I personally can't choose my favorite song from here, but I do have a personal history with I Just. I've experienced the song's lyrics more than once in my life and this song always finds a way to remain relevant in my life, so yeah.
As a final thought: Talented, Brilliant, Incredible, Amazing, Showstopping, Spectacular, Never The Same, Totally Unique, Completely Not Ever Been Done Before, Unafraid To Reference Or Not Reference, Put It In A Blender, Shit On It, Vomit On It, Eat It, Give Birth To It.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
The Perfect Red Velvet
So far the first and only repackage by Red Velvet, I don't think it really lived up to its name. Of course, this is biased because it's my own post, and I personally think this wasn't necessary. We only have 3 new songs, and I get the concept of repackages, but I think I'd have them release All Right and Time To Love with the standard album and then release Bad Boy either as a pre-release single. This repackage doesn't add anything to me since I love Perfect Velvet as it is, even if I think the songs fit with the concept and I love Time To Love.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
#CookieJar
#CookieJar was first released as a single, with the EP adding 2 more original songs, which are the ones I listened to.
If it was just the title track, I'd rate it 5 stars because I just love the song. It rules, it's interesting and it's so fun and catchy. However, as a mini album, it didn't really captivate me that much. Again, with only 3 original songs (including the title track which was previously released) it doesn't add that much to their discography. I think it's nice, sure, but I don't see myself coming back to the other songs.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Summer Magic
I feel like I like this mini album a bit more than I even realise... even if I don't come back to these songs that often. These are the kind of songs that even if I take forever to listen to them again, I always enjoy my time with them. All the songs work great together, it really feels like a summer magic party. My favorite song is probably With You, since I'm a sucker for anything that resembles a steel drum.
Plus it gave us the english version of Bad Boy (even if I don't like english versions a lot) and the line "I'm making you fall to your knees".
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
RBB
This release is so.... I don't even know if Camp is the right word, but it's just so glittery and sassy and confident and the perfect aesthetic of "girly horror" and fun. I love this so much, this is giving cunt, it's giving cohesion, it's serving so much. All the songs are great on their own and when together it's just an explosion of girly pop in an elegant and dark way. Some of my favorite Red Velvet b-sides are here and my #1 spot from this release goes to So Good. It really is SO good. Plus, I really like the overall fashion aesthetic of the era.
This mini album deserves all the best, not any less.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars)
Sappy
Now, being a japanese release AND a single, I don't really have much to say about the song. It's nice, but I don't think it lives up to the title of 'successor of #CookieJar'. It didn't catch my attention, and for that reason it won't get rated higher. Plus this section only gets a paragraph. That's how uninteresting this is to me, even if I won't skip the song when it comes on shuffle.
》 ☆☆ (Two Stars)
The ReVe Festival - Day 1
As a general spoiler, I think most of the ReVe Festival editions will get similar scores, and I don't think that's a bad thing. Each release shows a new side of this never ending festival and is consistent with its contents. Being the opening act, I think they went ALL OUT.
It's a summer release but it doesn't feel like a "fresh" summer, instead it brings out the heat and the sweat when you're having too much fun. My favorite song used to be Sunny Side Up, but after revisiting this EP as a whole, I'm starting to like Parade more.
However... none of the songs could quite catch my eye like she did...
Zimzalabim is everything I could've asked for. I loved this song from the first time I listened to the MV teaser. I waited for it jumping up and down since day 0. I love how crazy everything is, I love the contrast the chorus brings and the chanting of "zimzalabim" is the perfect thing to show a spell being cast. I knew it would be a banger. I love this song so much that it earned this mini album a Moon Badge.
Now, I know some people don't like this song for the same reasons I love it, and for being too much or too weird. But see, I have this thing. I'd very much rather talk about a song that is "horrible" and "so bad" for being experimental and INTERESTING than just listen to a plain generic song because it's "good" and "not bad". I don't think I truly hate any song, and even if I truly dislike a song (example: Kick It by NCT 127) I could never hate it, I still respect it. So yeah.
If it was just Zimzalabim, this release would receive 5 stars, but as whole, I'm afraid it didn't reach the potential I was looking for. Still, I really enjoy all the songs.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
The ReVe Festival - Day 2
If Day 1 is the hot and sweaty kind of summer, this is the fresh and chill one. This mini album makes me think of relaxing by the pool in the morning, breeze on your face. It's giving High School Musical 2 realness and for me, this means they nailed the summer vibe. Maybe I do have a weakness/soft spot for summer concepts.
All in all, a great release, even if it's the ReVe Festival rendition that receives the least amount of attention. Which is a shame, since it has Love Is The Way.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
The ReVe Festival Finale
I think this release has two downsides for me. First one is, unfortunately, the Wendy accident. It really impacted this era as a whole for me, which is... well, sad. I can't remember this release without thinking back on how Wendy fell from a height of basically 3 whole ass meters just because SBS Staff were fucking around. It makes my blood boil (FUCK SBS).
The second downside is that it has 2 songs less than its Festival counterparts, which is a shame. Still, there's a saying in portuguese that goes "not all are flowers" in the sense that every situation has its downsides. In this case, I'll say "not all are thorns", because there are great thinks to take from here.
With its 4 original songs, it gives the ReVe Festival a perfect ending. It really lives up to the 'Finale' title (not considering the 2022 batch), and all songs are bops. Like, come on. Psycho?? In&Out?? Remember Forever?? La Rouge?? They all serve, your honor. They go so well with the concept, and for me Remember Forever really captures the spirit of this era, especially in the lyrics. Like, seriously.
This release didn't quite reach my requirements for 5 stars, but it did receive a Moon Badge, which you can argue that is better, considering my rating system.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Queendom
Unfortunately, this era falls into a kind of a tough spot: it is the middle point between Psycho and Feel My Rhythm. I do like all the songs, my favorites being Pushin' N Pullin' and Knock On Wood, but for the era that marked the Wendy comeback, I think it falls a bit behind as a whole. It's not interesting enough for me to rate it any higher, even if I think it's a cohesive (I really like this word) release. Also, again, like Day 2, it doesn't receive the same attention as its predecessor AND successor. It doesn't reach the same standard, and for that reason I can't like it any more than I already do.
As a final thought: this marks their second title track where they don't share the chorus.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm
Now, I'll bet that no one was expecting a ReVe Festival in 2022. Was it necessary? Hm... I don't think so. This mini album can hold its own really well - it has the classiness, the weirdness, the magical and the arcadeism vibes all at once - and we didn't need it to be part of A Whole. Still, if you're gonna bring your own concept back, this is how you do it well. The use of Air on G String was the best decision they could've made and, for me, it really payed off.
I think the only song from here that I truly don't like is Bad, Good And Ugly. Which is interesting, because I also didn't like Rainbow Halo when it first came out. My favorite songs are In My Dreams with an honorable mention for Bamboleo.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Bloom
As a japanese release, I don't really give that much attention to it, since I'm not captivaded by them in general. Not every song can be #CookieJar or Falling Flower (by Seventeen). With seven original songs, my favorites are Marionette and Swimming Pool, but I don't have anything else to say about it. It's nice, but that's about it.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
The ReVe Festival 2022 - Birthday
No one was expecting the ReVe Festival in 2022, so what did SM do? They gave us TWO parts of this neverending festival last year. Why? I have no idea. Did it HAVE to be part of the ReVe Festival? Well... for this release, I think it did. Now, what's funny is that Birthday is definitely NOT my favorite title track from Red Velvet, but this mini album captivated me SO much... I don't know what they put in it, but all the songs are so fun to listen to - I love the direction they chose for this. I wouldn't call the songs "fun" as a concept, Bye Bye and Zoom (my favorite song from this era) are more hard hitting, but they work really well.
Did we need yet another ReVe Festival? No, we didn't. Am I gonna give it five stars anyway? Yes, I will.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars)
Chill Kill
................. I'm gonna try and keep this short and simple: Talented, Brilliant, Incredible, Amazing, Showstopping, Spectacular, Never The Same, Totally Unique, Completely Not Ever Been Done Before, Unafraid To Reference Or Not Reference, Put It In A Blender, Shit On It, Vomit On It, Eat It, Give Birth To It.
No, like, really. I could cry just thinking about this album. The successor of Perfect Velvet is FINALLY here. After 6 whole years, this is really all I could ask for. After so many 'Red' releases, we finally have more of their 'Velvet' side. I don't know what else to say. This sounds like nothing they did before. It's creepy, it's fun to listen to, It's classy, it's velvety, it's full, it's perfectly Red Velvet. I love this so much. My favorite song is Nightmare and I swear I could cry while listening to this song. It hits in all the right melancholic spots.
As for the title track, I did think the chorus brought a weird texture compared to the verse, but when the second verse hit, it just hit me so much harder because of the ""brightness"" of the chorus. This is the first time I'm saying this on this post, but it stays true to all the songs that apply: MY GIRL KENZIE NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!!!
Five stars. Moon Badge. Song of the Year. Album of the Year. All the Awards. All the Compliments.
As a closing thought: this is their THIRD title track where they don't share the chorus (aka have individual parts), which is something I truly wasn't expecting.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Final Scoring
Now... I think this discography deserves nothing less than the highest rating. It was one of the first groups I ever listened to, one of the first discographies I listened to as a whole and the first group that became my favorite. Red Velvet's songs have a place in my heart that won't leave, and too much relevance in my real life that I just can't ignore. I already love most of the songs, so when you consider the ones I have as 'my favorite' songs, there's no way I'd rate this any less.
For being one of my favorite discographies and for getting me through the toughest parts of my life, the Moon Badge was well earned.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Final Thoughts
If you choose to visit (or revisit) Red Velvet's songs, I promise that you won't be disappointed. They have a diverse discography and are known for their awesome b-sides FOR A REASON!!! Even if their style is not your style, I think it's worth it at least to expose yourself to different concepts.
Also, I'm happy to say that, with the help of my friends' suggestions, I already chose the next 3 artists that will receive a Discography Review. In order: Enhypen, Seventeen and Stray Kids. I also won't discard the option to talk about separate releases as separate posts, so do keep an eye out for that.
Until the next post and happy listening 💜✨️

Review: Gliding through a tender layering of indie-folk sounds, Grace and Moji share their new emotive single ‘Tipping Point’
Tumblr media
Sharing with the world their third ever single, the husband and wife duo Grace & Moji delve back into their staple acoustic indie folk-pop stylings for a heart-wrenching new adventure called ‘Tipping Point.’ Following their other well received debuts, this Los Angeles based pair have already found themselves resonating with audiences far and wide, enchanting those who listen with their deeply original sound.
Commencing through an atmosphere that’s just as tender as the pages of a diary, ‘Tipping Point’ embraces both warmth and emptiness in its tender sound, feeling familiarly pained in an all-too-human fashion. From the gentle acoustic guitar riff that leads things in, the bright chimes of each note ring out into the vast space accompanied only by Moji’s floating vocals that are drenched in a soft, echoey reverb made to feel utterly dreamy. Soon things shift to Grace’s vocals, adding an always emotional element to their releases as it’s almost as though their words shift perspectives between two voices, all the while whirring background hums add a glow to the background too. The chorus interweaves layers upon layers of gentle instruments that when brought together deliver their own powerful height of raw feeling, gliding through guitar strums; a vibrant electric guitar riff; heavy vocal reverb and overlapping, harmonised voices between the pair, serenading you through the most hair-raising, impactful depth of sound. There’s truly no one else that does it like Grace & Moji, as they continue crafting sounds that so expertly inweave a multitude of sounds, sensitive vocals and poignant lyrics into something you’ve never heard done before - and ‘Tipping Point’ is the perfect new addition to their growing discography of similarly masterful releases.
As the lyrics offer a story that’s just as heartbreaking as the sound, Grace & Moji speak of the precarious moment where a relationship teeters on the brink of unrecoverable collapse, yet still those in it cling to their hope, love, and resilience to guide them through the rocky waves. Lead in with Moji singing ‘she’s been open and honest, brutally honest, she’s been paranoid and all annoyed, waiting for the tipping point’, the track immediately establishes the severity of their growing resentments, from her growing distance to his hinting distaste towards her honesty. As Grace continues that ‘I’ve gotten used to talking to myself’, it’s clear the grand rift between them is only going to keep pushing them further and further apart, encouraging they no longer find security and safety in one another. Guilt and shame seems to seep through the lines too, as Grace shares ‘you look at me, I can’t look at you’, an impossible predicament that’s weighing them both down the longer it continues unmanaged. Spilling through with regretful hindsight, Moji sings ‘I should’ve known better, should’ve listened closer, should’ve seen the signs’ , an admission that at times a relationship can become so comfortable it’s no longer nurtured, not paying attention to the smaller details as things fall into routine. Yet the choruses hook holds an impenetrable hope, shining like a beacon of light in the dark the two lovers collide, singing ‘we’re waiting for the tipping point, on the verge of falling, so hold onto me darling ‘cause I’m not letting go if you’re not letting go.’ As they join together in a harmony that cannot be broken by their issues, ‘Tipping Point’ reminds that even in the darkest times your lover is your partner and your other half, a person who should be willing to fight through it all to continue the love you share.
Check out ‘Tipping Point’ here to appreciate the true depth of Grace & Moji’s sound, as well as the thoughtful undertones of their carefully crafted words.

June Music Releases: PART THREE
Part One and Part Two (aka just the Shinee album review)
"Shy Boy" by Carly Rae Jepsen. I don't think this is her strongest release but I think it'll get you to move if you listen to it. Kinda wish Jessie Ware did it instead. @ Jessie cover this.
"Moeroyomoero" by cali=/=gari. Has the energy of a Naruto ED with a bit more oomf. Like specifically Naruto or maybe Bleach, though as the song progresses it has its own identity. Has some nice guitar going on.
"Westside Story" by DJ Snake. Feel insane promoting a DJ Snake song in 2023 but it has the funk-influence of early Daft Punk but commits to it even more. Just excellent execution. Perfect use of autotune--makes the voice feel like just another instrument, like a singing guitar.
"Purple Ape" by Connie and Bayli. Crunchy and gay. Kinda abrasive but entrancing all the same. Feels like standing in the middle of a factory, peak of production, to make out with a girl.
"Dance Cult" by RIS-707. Feel insane again because there is some Bloc Party energy here, except it's more electric. Like there are a lot of influences present in this song but I can't shake the Bloc Party association and idk why. If you don't hear it, I understand. But this song will suck your jorts off. I do like this more than Bloc Party's latest track "Keep It Rolling," but you should also check that out if you like BP.
"Take Me Away" by DJ Hazime. Summery, tropical tunes. Not doing anything particularly new but if you're looking for beachy stuff to throw onto your more seasonal playlists, here ya go.
"Anything Flows" by Flo Milli (featuring like 9 million people). Not particularly new but she sounds goooood.
"Transcypt 2:3 Stalkers" by Aural Vampire. Dark sided dance track. GIve it a shot.
"Nasty" by grouptherapy. and jadagrace and tjonline. Confrontational bars and slick production. Feels like both a shot and the chaser. "American Psycho" is also pretty great, it takes a second to warm up but when it gets there... great. Fantastic.
"Keep On" by Tobias Bergson. Just soothing electronica.
"Realize" by LiSA. Jpop-rock. Spidervese song for Japanese audiences. Explosive, high energy, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Makes you efel like you're playig a racing game.
"You Rock Me" by She (aka this blog's namesake). SHe goes looong stretches without new music, so I'm always excited to get more. Just vibrant chiptune music. Dazzling energy while still being lowkey enough to kinda be background music.
"U Think" by voquote and reina. Smooth, the spoken bit does ruin the song a bit, but the rest is so good I forgive it. Chill dance music. But probably a better option of kinda lowkey but dancy music is "On + On" by Austin Millz and Justine Skye.
Also, people should rec me music again. Bonus points if you can relate it to a song or artist I've posted here. Could even be by an artist I've posted here--aside from like... She and CRJ I don't know a lot of the discographies of these artists.

🎧 for the ask game please? i'd like some song recommendations because my playlist is like 80% kpop help-
but also!!! hihi savv i hope you're having a good day today ily ♡♡♡
OMG HI XANTHE!!!! 💙✨ i hope ur having a good day too!!!!
okay im gonna go ahead and give u a few bc ur the only one to send one in so far and i have So Many songs i want to write fic for sjdjdkkddk (narrowing it down to three was actually really hard lmao)
first up i'm gonna give you i will by mitski
so stay with me / hold my hand / there's no need / to be brave and all the quiet things you bear / seal them up with care / no one needs to know they're there / for i will hold them for you 'cause all i've ever wanted is here / all i ever wanted / all i want is / always you / it's always you and we're not out of the tunnel / i bet you, though, there's an end and while you sleep / i'll be scared / so by the time you wake / i'll be brave
this makes me want to write qpr reader x member emotional hurt/comfort. like, just them being vulnerable with each other and holding each other (both physically and emotionally) and reader knowing that while they worry for member, member worries just as much over them and. idk, being brave for the people you care about and having it not automatically equal romance :')
(also mitski's one of my all-time fav artists so if u like this song u should check out her entire discography, her songs make me Feel Things, in like, the experiencing the human condition kinda way)
[putting the rest under a readmore bc i apparently have a lot to say OOPS]
okay next i'm gonna give you sweet time by porter robinson [cw: death mention]
and i feel so stupid / 'cause i wasn't scared of this before / but since i met you / i don't wanna die no more so take a long time / 'cause, oh, the world is lucky to be your home, i know / i need a next life / 'cause i'm not satisfied to know you just once / so take a long time
this makes me want to write some kind of reincarnation/reality-hopping au So Bad. just like, the idea of meeting someone and wanting to know everything about them, and not just the them of now, but every them that could and would have been. idk what the plot would actually be, but [member of choice] needs to find you in all these different realities for Reasons and in getting to know all these yous, comes to love all these different parts of you. sometimes it's romantic, sometimes it's platonic, but it's always with the same dedication
but yeah. "i need a next life, 'cause i'm not satisfied to know you just once" ughhhh. love this so much
(also another favorite artist of mine, specifically his album 'nurture'. listen to that shit on repeat so often lol)
okay lastly im gonna give you it happened quiet by aurora [cw: blood mention]
feathers falling out of the pillow / as if time is standing still / i can’t remember much more / but i know it happened quiet / so quiet you fell apart / like a stone can be broken into sand / a thousand pieces / spread across a crying land / and you can’t remember that day / but you know it happened quiet / so quiet / words falling out through the window / all that remains is a silent call / is the earth colored red? / as i land like a flower on the meadow are your dreams as dead as they seem? / don’t you speak over my voice / i will return from the shadows / and i’ll bleed in your bed / turn it red / like the ground outside your window / love is wild
i would love love LOVE to write a dark fairytale/fantasy fic for this, like!!! god, the vibe of this song feels like those stories that start off soft and fairytale-esque but by the end you realize it's actually a dark kind of warning and not a happily-ever-after.
so the basic idea i have would be something along the lines of: reader was once like, a forest guardian or something, and at one point a human came along and was like "let me live in ur forest pls" and they were skeptical but eventually let them as long as they didn't hurt the forest at all. so the human builds themself a little cottage in the clearing and doesn't hurt the forest and so reader lets themself start to get to know the human and oops! they end up falling in love (bad idea) and in a moment of vulnerability, the human attacks them, nearly kills them, and curses them so they can't protect their forest anymore. bc lo and behold, little human is actually a greedy bastard from the nearby kingdom wanting to take all the resources here.
fast forward a bit, and [member of choice] who has some magical abilities, starts getting really weird dreams about the forest on the other side of the kingdom. cue member being enlisted to help reader enact their revenge plot to save their forest (and also maybe reach some righteous havoc while they're at it) and they become best 'villain' bros the end :')
(once again, love aurora so much, i highly recommend checking out her discography haha)
send me a “🎧” and i’ll give you a non-kpop song i want to someday use as fic inspiration

❝ i’m getting nervous for some reason, i’m trying to speak calmly
solo related jihoon’s and his solo debut endeavors pt.3 date: december 2022 song choice: gorgeous word count: 485 notes:
girl you got me all freaked up i need you in my life and i can never get enough your gorgeous figure mesmerizes me you don't have to make any effort
i can’t, i can never get enough from youari finishes reading and jihoon has his face in his hands. he's almost doubled over in his seat, internally and externally cringing at whatever he had just brought to get checked. to see if it will be approved. something, anything. he has been writing and writing, anything and everything that comes to mind. this... whatever this was, had almost been finished in his mind, but ari had read just the first few lines of the opening verse and he thinks he won't be able to go through the rest of the song.
"you always bring surprising stuff here." she comments, making the rapper look between his fingers at her, only to see she is still looking down at his notebook. he can live with this, her more focused on the work they have to do rather than whatever he is doing. "i like how you use the chorus as the opening verse, that's an interesting style choice." ari says and jihoon can't help but agree. it was mainly because he wasn't sure what to actually do for it. he wanted something out there, something that would potentially grab the attention of whoever is listening. for them to figure out he used the chorus, without actually using it. it's weird, he is tired and messing about.
"the lyrics are finished." jihoon finally says, tugging his lips between his teeth, making sure to not bite too hard on it. he's been spending way more time sat down and stressing about writing good lyrics rather than actually dancing, he has never done that. he has been working on some choreographies, going through catalyst's discography for the end of year awards over and over again. however, he had other deadlines and unfortunately his focus was split up.
"do you have an idea what you would like to do for the melody of the chorus? it's pretty repetitive." ari asks him, as if he knew anything about music and how it was made. he had only gotten into writing lyrics she wants opinions on production and melody. so he shakes his head, shoulders shrugging soon after.
"whatever you prefer, i don't know much about how the songs are actually made.." an honest reply, something they should have expected.
"hmm.." the producer hums, lips pursing as she turns to the computer, mouse moving fast and expertly across the screen. "i have an idea, if you have some time to stay here you can get to listen to it. its your album, i want your opinion." the words catch jihoon by surprise. he has never been asked what he has wanted before in his life. he's gotten whatever he has been given so this.. this is slightly new, unsure of how to actually react.
"yeah, sure." he finally says, pulling his chair closer, reaching for his notebook of scribbles and lyrics to see what they could actually do with this repetitive chorus.
