Happy Monday all :) Just realized we are over halfway done with s4. Crazy ha Naturally after an intense Chenford ep we have the next one be little lighter. Sadly they are missing 90 percent of this episode so it'll be a shorter one. But there is good moments of growth and such. Let’s get going.
4x13 Fight or Flight
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucy is attached to Nolan’s helicopter kid situation. Which robs us of any Chenford in this episode. Thanks a lot Nolan…I could tell that kid was suspect af in the elevator and I’m not even a cop. John asks for Lucy to ride with him so he can get into this kids mind. It is awesome she is sought after for her psychological experience. We all know Nolan isn’t going to be able to do that…
We get a little crumb at the beginning of the episode. Tim was clearly waiting for her. I love how he instantly supports her. Doesn’t question why she’s helping or upset she is doing that instead of them riding together. Only that if she needs anything he is there for her. Little moments make my heart happy. So I shall take them in lighter eps.
Tumblr media
We do get some good Tim and Angela moments which I will always be happy to enjoy. Tim runs into her and she tells him she has an old ‘friend’ of his in for questioning. He was pulled over and had a diamond bracelet in his car. It’s tied him to a home invasion that left 3 people dead. I do love getting a look into Tim’s work past and former arrests. Which ones are hang ups for him and such. She asks him if he’d like in on the interrogation?
Tim of course jumps right on it. Once he’s in the box Dez is deny deny deny about the bracelet. Saying he got it for his mother and lost the receipt. Ok buddy... Noting he was working the night the home invasion occurred. That his boss would confirm that for him. Watching Tim take charge in the interrogation is *fans self* Not to mention the bicep and forearm shots in this. Killing me softly sir.
Besides him looking fine af just sitting there I always enjoy watching him take charge in any capacity. .i.e. this moment. Why I love Metro Tim so much. It's sexy the way he walks over and commands his attention. Tries to connect with this guy. Knowing they have a past trying to use it to their advantage. Also him using words like recidivism getting me all hot and bothered. Idk why it just is LOL Anyways lets get back on track....Tim tells Dez he knows he wouldn’t have killed anyone. But they need his help to catch the people who did harm that family. They just need a name. He gives them the name of his lawyer instead. Wah wah
Tumblr media
Seeing Lucy with Nolan it’s hard to believe they were ever matched up. Boggles the mind really. Just in how they’re approaching this situation alone. Lucy gets an ID for this kid from dispatch. His name is Leo Thomas. He's just a teenager. Nolan mentioning well adjusted kid’s don’t steal police helicopters. Lucy going on to say could just be teenager attention-seeking behavior. Trying to standout and establish their identity.
How it’s gotten so much worse with social media. She isn't wrong. I can only imagine. Its way more than when I was a teenager. Not to date myself but I only had myspace and facebook for most part and I didn't even use FB till like 2008 honestly. Oh and instagram. I think lol My point is as a millennial we didn't have the amount of platforms that are around now. It's insane. I can't imagine trying to establish an identity on them.
So Lucy saying social media having an impact on behavior is accurate. I believe that. It’s funny how John asked for Lucy to tag along and to get in the kids head. Then when she does he fights her on it a little. *eye roll* Also why am I not surprised he was a boring teenager? LMAO This doesn’t shock Lucy either. Him questioning her being a rebel. With the parents she had growing up? I have no doubt she was. You don’t know her like that John and it shows…
Tumblr media
Nolan tries to connect with Leo now that he knows his name. John doing a big swing and a miss with him right off the bat. Trying to connect over now his family is sick with worry. Goes over like a lead ballon. He gets back on track with him though. Asking about learning to fly through video games? How impressive that is. Nolan starts to get some traction with the video game bonding. Leo begins to open up saying usually in a game how the main character survives through allies.
He asks John if he’s an ally? Lucy nodding her head fervently. Unreal how he needed to turn to Lucy for that answer. Do love her directing this whole thing though. What a downgrade from Tim eh Lucy? heh. Leo tells them they need to go on some quests first. Then they can talk about him landing this helicopter. John is skeptical to say the least.
Tumblr media
Its why Nolan keeps biffing it with this kid. Honestly it’s a wonder he got put on this kid at all. Good thing Lucy is there to steer the ship. I love love love her being the leader on this. Look at our bad ass. Questioning his decision making skills and backing it with rock solid logic. Also sound psychology. You know the whole reason he brought her in the first place......
Nolan may have a good connection with people but he doesn’t have the logic and emotional intelligence Lucy does. John is ready to throw in the towel but Lucy isn’t. She crushes it with some damn good logic. Explaining why he should give into this kid and what he wants. It’s like he completely forgotten why he was assigned this kid in the first place. To build rapport and get him down on the ground. Good thing Lucy is there or this would be going so much worse.
Tumblr media
He sends them on their first quest. To what looks like drug den. Saying he lost a raven haired girl he used to like from there from an OD. He couldn't save her but they can at least take down the monsters who caused her death. We find shortly after that was a lie. Since he has been home schooled for the last year. Nolan tries to get him to come down after one quest. Of course he doesn’t. It’s like John hasn’t caught on to the game here lol They ask for their next quest and he asks if they like alligators? HA
Tumblr media
We return to Tim back at the station. He’s called in Dez’s boss to verify his ‘alibi’. At first he’s corroborating it until Tim says he’s suspected of triple murder. Tim dismantling Dez's alibi within minutes of meeting this man. I love it so much. His boss immediately amends his statement and says he paid him off. To clock him in and let him go and he did the same thing for tonight as well. Tim reports this back to Angela ASAP. That they don’t have time to wait for his lawyer. They have something far more pressing. Another target to locate. If they don’t figure out where that is more bodies are going to drop.
Tumblr media
Lucy and Nolan are on their second quest. This part cracks me up. Dude they’re arresting is defending his alligator. Saying Cupcake is a sweetheart. Lucy’s reply cracks me up ‘Cupcake ate my taser’ LMFAO. His attachment to this creature is intense to say the least. The good thing about this second quest is there is a pattern though. Both quests have involved big drug arrests. Nolan tries to press the kid for it and nada. He continues on to tell them they’re going to have their final quest soon enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim shows up at Dez’s house mid-search. He instantly goes into sexy Sergeant mode. Asking Webb what they’re found so far? It would appear nothing at the moment. So Tim takes over the scene. I love watching him in action. So confident and sure of himself. While teaching in the process. Yum Yum. Sexy teacher Tim is in the house.
Just takes control of this search and makes it more efficient. He's so good at his job. Also he is growing as a Sergeant. Took control without fully taking control and doing it himself. He delegated his team to re-work their search pattern. Look at him go. So proud of him. Growing as a leader makes my heart happy to see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We circle back to helicopter kid. They are slowly putting the pieces of the puzzle together. The guy they just arrested works with his mom’s BF. He's a known associate of his. It would appear they have a drug distribution chain going on. That one of the dealers they sell to was arrested and had to do with quest number one.
Lucy jumps in with her POV. This is why Nolan brought her along. Love watching her flex her psych brain. That muscle innate in her as she analyzes this situation. We finally find out why Leo took the helicopter. That quest #3 is to save his mother from her drug dealer BF. The problem is they don’t have any evidence linking this guy to what they’ve found today and he only has 40 minutes of fuel left…
Tumblr media
We jump back to the house with Tim and his team. They still haven’t found anything linking Dez to the 2-11. Tim has an epiphany and calls in a bomb sniffing dog. Explaining that they look for ingredients for a bomb or gunpowder from an illegal firearm. That's what they need to implicate Dez. I will also take Tim Bradford talking to a dog all day long. Ovary explosion for me. *fans self* The way he roasts this dog for getting distracted by a squirrel LOL I’m dying I love this man so very much.
Thor eventually finds exactly what they’re looking for. Pawing at a spot Tim is able to crack open and find the evidence they need. Look at him listening to all past advice Grey gave. Not showing up to a scene early. When he does he delegates and doesn’t take over completely. While still teaching in the process of that delegating. He would be proud. Lucy too if she could see this.
Tumblr media
Grey is able to get Murray to flip on Brian. Using cupcake Lmao it’s hilarious. Wants to make sure she’s taken care since she ate Lucy's taser. So he rolls on his partners including Brian. All for his alligator's well being it's too damn funny. Grey is delighted that’s all it took. Nolan and Lucy are able to complete quest number 3. They have him fly over his house so he can see them arresting Bryan. Telling him it is finally time to land that helicopter. He agrees and says he’s been air sick for hours ha They arrest him once he’s landed. Lucy looks so sad about it but they really don’t have a choice in the matter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim returns to Angela with the evidence they needs against Dez. He flips once Tim has hard evidence against him. Gives them every job, every crew member and what they’re going to hit tonight. They catch up to the getaway driver fairly easily. It is fun to watch this bad ass duo work together. Question him easily about the men inside and what they’re walking into. Tells them three men are inside the house not including himself.
They find out 2 of the 3 are upstairs looting. While the third is hovering over the family with a gun. Angela doesn’t want to go in hot with this third guy. Worried he’ll hurt the family in retaliation. Tim tells her then they go in a different way. A way I very much approve of. Why you ask? We get Tim Bradford in a TIGHT white t-shirt. Pretending to be a delivery guy. Mmmm just look how taut that shirt is across his muscled chest.
Sweet baby James this man is fit. Could wash clothes on those washboard abs of his. Don’t get me started on the gun show that is his biceps. Popping out of those sleeves. We also get some nice forearm action as well in these shots. Nothing for me to analyze except his beautiful form in these gifs. Imma need some ice water. This man does things to me. *ahem* Let's get back to the story at hand...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim knocks on the door. Angela has the getaway drivers phone. So she texts the gun happy third guy it’s just food delivery. This gets him close to the door where they want him. Once he’s close enough they push through a flash bang grenade. Taking him out pretty quickly. Then we get to watch some poetry in motion.
Tim and Angela moving like badasses to secure the house. Just a couple besties taking down criminals like it’s nothing. These are some great shots of these two. I would like more Angela/Tim shots in s6. Just add that to my s6 wishlist haha Metro and the detectives working together be fun to watch. If I can’t have Chenford I’ll take Tim/Angela moments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We started with a crumb and we get to end with a crumb. I love Tim being the one to initiate a drink after work. He’s grown so very much makes me wanna cry. We all know it’s because of his relationship with Lucy. Our hardened grumpy Tim while still grumpy has grown a lot. Look at him not only doing post work hang but making jokes. Saying it’s all on Nolan ha! Such a nice moment. Until Grey comes over and says Cupcake broke free from animal control LOL Angela's reply is the best 'Who's Cupcake?' So very confused haha
Not a lot of Chenford but good moments and growth none the less. Next episode will be a good one for them.
~~~
Side notes- non chenford
Well this entire episode was that haha I did enjoy Harper’s SL with Aaron and him trying to get that man justice. His reason why behind it and all as well. He develops very nicely as a character. I do love having him around a lot.
What are you biggest wishes for season 6?
Oh damnn... I try to stay as open-minded as possible with my wishes, so these are probably more vibes, and you already know some of these because I talk your ear off about at least one of them, but here we go:
Number one, top priority is I really really want Tim and Lucy to talk openly about how her UC involvement is affecting him. He's maybe unpeeled the top layer, but you can see in some of those scenes that he's hurting, like the man is in pain and that's not healthy. Sooner or later, if she goes down this path, Lucy is gonna go on an op that's longer, and where he's not her immediate backup (like when she was Jaime), and it's gonna bring along all sorts of issues and resentments and I would hate to see them pulled apart because of this.
This brings me to my next one, which is something I've also talked about before - Lucy needs to seriously evaluate her career options and what they'll mean for her future life. I don't think (and I feel a lot of people agree with me on this) that UC is the best option for Lucy, because of her personality. I don't want to go in too deep on this, but long-term UC isn't really compatible with the type of person she is and with the type of life she wants (kids, family, etc.).
I want a lot of scenes of Tim and Lucy in his office. And if they drop any more innuendoes I won't be mad about it.
I want Tim and Angela besties scenes!!!!! We were robbed in s5, apart for that premiere scene. Give us back tim/angela cowards!
Lucy passing the detective's exam and her friends celebrating her (and Tim celebrating her later in private).
Lucy proving that she's a badass. I really hope they don't make her stumble too much, because we all know she's got what it takes.
More Tim/Genny scenes!
Okay hear me out, I didn't want this but now that Eric mentioned it, it would be so funny if they did a scene where Tim finds out about Lucy and Nolan. I would find that so hilarious.
Nyla/Angela dynamic! I love them. What did they call them, Cagney and Lacey? Gimme.
More rookie hazing like in s1. Bring TOs being harsh to rookie back. Nolan is way too soft. We need like a new TO or something.
A Lucy/Tim scene at Tim's house.
Tamara and Lucy friendship.
Someone telling some harsh truth to Lucy's family (like the fact they're idiots and their daughter is amazing!).
I think that's it??? And 13 is my lucky number so I should stop there haha.
Thank you, this was fun! Sorry I replied like idk how late because tumblr hates us and didn't send me a notification.
The Dark Knight
"I'm good with calculations" - Lau, the Calculator
"Some men want to watch the world burn." - Alfred the Imperialist
"You wanna know how I got these scars?" - Joker, being 100% completely honest
The two stories he tells, everybody talks about them like they couldn't be a part of the same story. A little bit of therapy, secrets, he tells to people he's thinking about killing. And just tailored enough that the people he's telling never know the whole story.
"I see my father in you" he tells one patron. Whenever he's telling these stories, he's honest, and he's telling them because he sees the people he sees.
A drunk father, to the mob boss. A mother/wife who can't love.
And the little bits interspersed here and there. Lau was the calculator (in gritty realism, it's better not to have a costume). But there's one calculation he didn't make; what if the good guy doesn't play by the rules? What if, and I'm just spit balling here, he'd been feeding mob information to his biggest customer "Wayne enterprises" the same company, that'd been making purchases from him on a secret para-military project codenamed "Flying Fox".
Bat butler's key words of advice in this movie, are that *some people cannot be understood* if of courses he were to take a wider perspective of his story about a thief who stole from a British museum to return the treasures to Africa, he would know that he is infact tainted by his British understanding of people who are not British. His understanding, his stereotype, is of the "British Custodian" a picture brit-land paints itself of course.
They can do no wrong as long as they are the stewards. Except for everything they do wrong in creating things they think need stewardship.
"These "civilized" people? They'll eat each other." - Joker
The Joker is much more agile at making decisions and calculation s, and his combat skills are on the level of Batman. He did something Batman, Harvey Dent, and the entire police force could not do. He got 500 mob members arrested, simply by robbing one of their banks.
And he let them take credit for it.
Why did he kill the people on his initial team? Because if he didn't, the mob would. And, as he says in the meeting with the mob "I know the squealers when I see them."
Who is really cleaning up the streets here?
The lawyer, Coleman Reese, who works for Wayne Enterprises doing an audit for the company's dealing with Lau is wearing a purple tie, he has the same swagger as the Joker, even does the lip licking thing.
The message was to Lucious Fox
How do you think he was tipped off for this? Maybe in another canon, he would be the employee who turns into the riddler. Fox didn't tell Bruce, because he lost faith in the project and was too afraid to do it himself.
Harvey Dent has a two headed coin, he threatens one of Jokers cohorts with "tails, you lose". Batman doesn't know this he says "You'd leave a man's life to chance?" -- "Well not exactly" he says with a smile.
The seeds of distrust in each other are already sown.
Poor Rachel Dawes, stuck in this lie where she lets both Harvey and Bruce think she's in love with them. She knew Joker's plan, to let Batman decide which to save, and knew if Batman didn't show up, she was dead. And here she is telling Harvey how much she loves him because she thinks he's going to die, and it'll make it easier on him.
I know what you might be asking: "When Lambo?" And the answer is 145:22. 1:25:22. You know what a recurring number in this movie is? 22, from the number on the school bus, Harvey Dent's coin has 1922 on it, the bomb in hong Kong is featured having 2:22 on it before the scene change.
Everybody suggests that it's just because it's the second of the Christopher Nolan trilogy. I think it's because it references every Batman Comic #22 up until that point.
"If Coleman Reese isn't dead in the next sixty minutes, then I blow up a hospital " - Joker sowing distrust in the populace AND giving credence to Reese's words. He knew the hospital would be empty, and he was going to blow it up regardless.
After a whole conversation about things going according to plan, which puts people's mind at ease; All according to plan.
When Batman tells Fox about the bat sonar, it's his suit turning purple.
"You oughta know, you bought it" - Joker to the Mafia about his suit
The reason the prisoner boat didn't blow up the other boat, is because a man would've rather died there than to live. (After convincing the warden to give it to him.)
The civilian guy says "They made their choice to murder and steal" as he contemplates murdering an entire ferry of people. Including the guards and bus driver. Before promptly returning the detonator.
The Batman doesn't kill him. Twice now, he doesn't kill him. No matter what he does or who he kills. The Batman won't Kill. He will make people suffer, break their legs, force them into debt over hospital bills. He'll make them want to kill themselves. But no, he won't do it directly.
And the Joker, well, he won't kill himself. And nobody seems to want to do it for him either.
The Batman tho... He nearly lost his life due to a technical malfunction because he couldn't trust his own eyes. If the Joker were just a little more willing to kill the Bat instead of sending a message, he could've owned the City.
The Joker, see--he thinks Bruce is lucky to have lost his parents at such a young age. If he hadn't, he might've had a few scars of his own to show off.
Another week, another episode, let’s get right into it, shall we?!
When a new episode starts with a “previously on” usually that means that storyline is brought back up in the current episode, so I know already off the bat that the John and Lucys relationship is going to be a focus on this episode, as well as Isabel.  Im kind of glad though, because that means there will be more traction for the doomed Nucy relationship and maybe it will finally get to a head and be done with completely, maybe, hopefully!
My favorite part of every episode, I’ve come to learn, is the cold opens.  I think because of the fact that, so far, they really have nothing to do with any of storylines that we get in the rest of the episode. John and Talia are in pursuit of the assailant, and  he leads them into a room where they realize that its an escape room and the only way out is by actually figuring out all of the clues of the room and they end up solving their way out and it also gives us a little comedy as well, as its really the only comedy we get this episode unfortunately.
Lucy and John are seen sparring with each other and it’s awkward because they are awkward still.  Still fresh off of a break-up that neither of them seemed to want, but was necessary to happen.  We can all feel it.
Tumblr media
Talia and Nolan respond to a call from a convenience store where there are two robbers, Talia quickly captures her robber, but John’s escapes and his leads him into the home of an unsuspecting scared family.  The robber runs upstairs and finds a gun, he turns, and aims to shoot at John, but defensively, John pulls the trigger on his own gun and the bullet lands right into the mans chest, and kills him.  Talia radios the shooting in and this original call becomes one, that nobody expected it too: an officer is now a suspect.  John did not think that this is how his day was going to pan out.   John starts to rationalize his decision, but Talia knows how this works and she tells John to stop, because now, this has turned into an IA investigation: an on-duty police officer shot and killed a suspect.
Officer Nolan is asked by Captain Anderson who he wants to be his companion officer, to help guide him through this new and unfamiliar territory and he responds with Officer Grey.  It is a surprising choice, mainly for the fact that Grey has shown on multiple occasions that he does not like Nolan, nor does he respect him, and as far as the viewers eyes can see, John knows that, so why exactly does he choose him?  I personally think it’s because even though Grey doesn’t like or respect him, Nolan respects Grey.  I think that he always has.  He told him from the very first episode that he’s there for a reason and he will prove him wrong.  Maybe this is one of the first steps in doing just that?  We eventually find out later in the episode that Nolan actually chose Grey because Grey isn’t going to sugarcoat things.  When push comes to shove, Grey will be upfront and honest with John, and John needs 100% honesty right now.
Tumblr media
Grey goes over in detail with John of the next steps that’s going to happen to him in these next ew days with the upcoming investigation. An on duty officer, shot and killed a suspect, this isn’t something that gets treated lightly.  The IA investigations are going to be brutal and John will be getting asked questions of every moment leading up to and everything after the shooting, and Grey is preparing him for that.
Another question that pops into my head while watching this episode, why did they have Nolan be the officer who killed the suspect?  The only thing I can think of is because this show was intended to revolve around John and his career/life in the academy, especially as a rookie cop, but also because this might bring Lucy back into his life?
This is the first time that we have seen Grey be serious with John.  Every time before this, Grey has been mocking Nolan and making fun of him, so to see this change in his behavior, is serious.  Grey knows how serious this is and he knows he has to be there for Nolan, in any capacity he can be in.  I genuinely feel bad for Nolan.  This job means so much to him, so for it too potentially be taken away from him is weighing heavy on his mind.  John is in the investigation room and the questions are being rapid fire shot at him by IA. John is answering them to the best of his abilities, but you can see that John is reeling- this shooting only happened hours ago, and it was traumatizing to John.
The morning after the shooting, John just lays in his bed replaying the previous day over and over again, but did he even sleep…?
We see individual interviews between IA and Jackson and Lucy.  Lucy gets asked personal questions regarding John and she knows the correct answers too, but has to lie in order to protect herself and her relationship with John.  Lucy approaches John the next day to talk, and she wants him to talk to her, but advises against it.  As suspected, he admits he can’t stop thinking about what happened the previous day to her.  Lucy brings John to the house where the shooting happened.  She shows John the family that he protected, who are save and alive in their house because of him and what he did, I think its what John needed to see.  He took a life, yes, but he also saved the lives of 4 other people.  It might not seem like it now, but John did a good thing.
John is very out of it this entire episode after the shooting, and it’s sad to see.  The very normally happy-go-lucky John is long gone and he is just somber.  It is unsettling. This shooting has affected him, and for the rest of this episode, John really is just going through the emotions, of what is expected of him. He just shot and killed a man hours ago, for anyone to expect anything else from him would be uncalled for.
John goes to talk to Captain Anderson, asking to see his body cam footage from the previous day of the shooting.  Captain Anderson highly advises against it, but John chooses to do so in the end, maybe this is the next step he needs to take in order to accept what happened.  It is clearly traumatizing for John to watch, but he needs to see it in order to understand why he did it. Captain Anderson knows that as she previously mentioned she has been there.
John and Lucy end the night with Lucy bringing John back home and walking him in, and as mentioned before, you can still feel the tension between them, whether that is unresolved sexual tension or awkwardness, but its there and of course they end up in a kiss, which we all know what that is going to lead too, unfortunately.  I get it though, why they did that; they fell back into comfortability.  Given the current situation, it is unfamiliar and very uncomfortable so they regress and go back to what they know, which is each other.  This is potentially the last time that John is, or could be an officer.  He needs to feel something that was normal for him for a long time and that is Lucy and vice versa.  After all is said and done, Lucy tells John that it was a mistake, which she knows it is, but again, it felt good and familiar in the moment.
Tumblr media
The episode ends with Lucy in the shower, and while John is up and about the house making food, he gets the vibe that something is off, goes to investigate and gets pummeled in the face by a baseball bat, and dragged throughout the whole house, and by who? The brother of the man that John killed.  This guy is out for revenge.  To be continued….what is going to happen next?
The other storyline of this episode is Isabel.
Talia gets told by Anderson that she got the tap, and she is delighted, but knows that it’s a sticky subject to talk to Angela about because Angela also wanted the tap, but they play nice and Angela is happy for her, of course.  As the girls and Tim are talking, they look over and see Isabel being brought into the station.  Tim gets told that Isabel made a deal with the detectives to be an informant in order to avoid prison because she knows what’s waiting for her in prison is hell and she will do anything to avoid that.
Angela and Jackson respond to an obvious impaired civilian who ends up having her boyfriends chopped off foot on her and when they bring her back into the station to book her, they notice something is up, Angela peeks over and knows the exact reason why, John Nolan and the shooting- this arrest is quietly forgotten about.  It was almost as a ploy to get them back to the station and involved in the Nolan storyline.
Tumblr media
Tim and Lucy are talking about the drugs that Tim didn’t take from Isabels apartment while in the shop and this is really the only interaction that we have of them this episode.  This episode is not about them and their forming relationship, but they are sorely missed.  While in the shop, they get notified of Nolans shooting and head back to the station.  Isabel starts to work with the detectives, with Talia helping them as she got the tap.  The detectives want Isabel to wear a wire, and even though she is hesitant, she knows that she has to do it because again she will do anything to avoid a prison sentence.  Its different to see other people besides Tim and Lucy interact with Isabel and with Isabels storyline.  Even Talia mentioned, she was at Tim and Isabels wedding and now she’s a part of the team leading Isabel into straight up danger, I’m sure its an unsettling feeling for every party involved.
The detective and Talia arrest Isabels boyfriend, and they knew exactly what they were doing because while booked, he calls Isabel and has her to go into the upcoming drug bust in his place.  Isabel still knows what will happen to her if she goes to prison so she’s going to take whatever else she can, which is why she’s willingly going into this drug bust, and with a wire at that.
Talia pulls Tim to talk about Isabel, and she finally tells Tim what the detectives want Isabel to do which is wear the wire.  I was wondering why Tim was being so left out of the loop with Isabel.  Bottom line, Tim and Isabel are still married, even though it really doesn’t seem like it, but that doesn’t negate the fact that she is still his wife, who he said vows too.  He has every right to feel what he is feeling about this situation.  Isabel is all wired up and everyone is ready to go.  The risks and stakes are high, this entire operation is riding on Isabel, that’s a ton of pressure on her, but for Isabel, who we still infer is still addicted to drugs is even worse.  Can she pull this off?
Tim sits back in his car, watching old home videos of Isabel and himself from when they were simply themselves and just together.  I am sure this whole situation is weighing heavy on his heart. Tim never expected his life, his marriage to go the way it did, he misses what it once was, because deep down, he knows it will never be the same and could never go back to being the same.
Ive said it since the beginning, Angela is the superior friend of Tim, which is why she ends up in his passenger seat right next to him, she knows that he shouldn’t or can’t be alone right now. They all wait this out with Isabel and the drug lord until it’s a little too late and Tim, Angela and the detectives realize that the drug lord is on to them and Isabel.  They rush in and everybody is gone, with Isabels wire on the ground.  Tim freaks the fuck out, to put it lightly and shit just hit the fan…. To Be Continued.
Honorable Mention:
Episode Peak:  This entire episode was really just, sad. I personally don’t think there was one.
Episode Pit:  John Nolan. This is the first episode I truly felt bad for him.
Quote of the Episode: “I can't imagine what you're going through. And maybe if I was in the same place, I'd think about quitting, too. But they're alive because you did your job. You put your own life at risk to protect them, and if you're ever in that position again, I know you'll do the same thing”. ~ Lucy Chen
Episode Rating: 7/10.  I don’t dislike this episode, but I also didn’t love this episode.  I know that this episode needed to happen to basically put an end to John and Lucy’s relationship but I feel indifferent to this episode.
This episode took me a few hours to review and I didn’t even realize it- but I had to get it done! I hope you enjoy it!
Do you think Tim already knows or will ever find out what Lucy did for him? Also also, you’re telling me that she made all of her co-workers try and figure out a better place for Tim and they still “don’t know” about them being together. Yes sure…😏. It’s a trope but I’m excited for when they announce to everyone that they’re together and everyone’s just like “duh we been knew”
I don’t think Tim knows as of right now, but I think there’s a good chance he will find out later. Having him not know kind of creates this potential chekhov’s gun situation where it can be used as a reveal later (maybe either nyla or smitty lets it slip during a period of strain in his relationship with lucy which leads them to a resolution?) But I don’t know, all of that remains to be seen!
Also yeah, like no one can convince me that they don’t all know after chenford’s behaviour in last night’s episode. Like, they know Tim took the desk job and doesn’t like it, he asked HER first and foremost if she was okay in a room full of their closest friends, and then they start lowkey holding hands and smiling like idiots when he told her about his new job. They HAVE TO KNOW at this point, like in what world is any of that platonic behaviour??
That being said, because I’m of the firm belief that they’re already kind of out as a couple at this point and everyone knows, I don’t think we’re necessarily going to get a scene with a relationship reveal and seeing everyone’s reaction. Which honestly I’m okay with??? I feel like the relationship reveal + coworker reaction trope is more for couples that are new and fresh and it gives opportunity for something kind of awkward and goofy (in a good way) but it’s not exactly a productive scene if that makes sense? I get why they didn’t add it and why they might not do it. The reactions are had and it’s funny, but it doesn’t exactly do much to develop the relationship or the plot. Chenford is also getting serious very fast, so having their relationship be just generally accepted as the new normal enforces that, which I like. We saw Grey’s reaction which was important for reasons relating to how he can help them make their relationship appropriate but honestly, the only person whose reaction I feel robbed of is Angela’s. I’m not particularly in any desperate need to see anyone else’s reaction. You know Nyla would be accepting and kind of indifferent, and Nolan would be clueless, but there are plenty of other chances to see Nolan being oblivious to something lol. So we might not even get that “duh we been knew” moment, anon! But I think I would be fine with that because it’s a kind of moment that is abundant in fanfiction.
[ ricky whittle , cis male, he/him ] Hey, isn’t that NOLAN KEENE. I thought they went away for the summer? Did you hear they might be a WEREWOLF, and have a connection to SLOUGH PACK? What I do know for certain is that they’re THIRTY SEVEN, and they’re DETERMINED and ABRASIVE. They’re originally from FENRIRS WOOD, and have been back to FENRIRS WOOD for FIVE YEARS living in FORK’S ROAD. I wonder if they still work at WIN GARAGE as a MECHANIC. Best if they stay safe for now.
About .
Born and raised in Fenrirs Wood, Nolan was always a vicious kid. Hands full of blood and soil, and knees grazed in the dirt. An uncontrollable temper, the boy never quite knew how to keep just words to himself. Nolan’s father would teach him to hunt when he could hold a gun. While he would prefer fists and antagonised violence over a trophy at the end of the day, he’d still enjoy his time in the forests that backed onto their house. He’d start spending more and more of his free time out there, staring up to birds scattering in the trees, it became easy to pretend he’s in a grave when no one else was around.
It was the same year his father dies that Nolan got bitten, running around in the woods with his gun brandished as if he was chasing something. Really it was just fun to point and chase. Maybe the rumours made him wonder if there was something human beneath all of it. He knew he was never going to shoot, he was only ever good at antagonising.
His father died due to a ‘hunting accident’, at least that’s what the authorities ended up labelling it as. But gossip would still stain the family name. Nolan Keene’s name.
Restless teen, got in with the wrong crowd. Maybe he was the wrong crowd. Hard to tell which way around that was. Young, dumb, reckless, the ripe age of twenty-one when Nolan was already a trouble to the pack. Fenrir pack might have turned him, they might have been the ones that took him in, but he was nothing more than sharp teeth and a hot head. They’d end up kicking him out after years of trouble, nothing engrained his resentment more than that betrayal of abandoning him. That was when he’d join Slough. When he found out his mother was being evicted from her home. He helps the only way he knows how- by putting himself on the line.
He travels a couple states, robs a few banks. The third one too many things went wrong in the lead up and well, he got caught. His mother moved from Fenrirs Wood anyway.
Nolan serves nine years in prison, the council of Fenrirs Wood is concerned what a werewolf being locked up might do to their secret. For the sake of the town, they do what they can to keep Nolan’s shifts at bay while he’s away. They put a curse on him the day he goes in, unable to shift into his werewolf form but it’s still there inside him. Every part of him only grew to ache and more restlessness. He has been back in Fenrirs Wood for the last five years. Got a job at the mechanics, and is only more restless than the day he left.
SaL anon here friend, hoping you had a long, relaxing, holiday weekend!! Not a big Thanksgiving person myself, but I do like sleeping in. So tell me, should i start watching The Rookie, since it's a long wait after the mid season finale. Speaking of which, I'm mentally preparing for tomorrow, by which I mean bracing myself for some nonsense cliffhanger since they've literally set nothing up for any of the characters. Maybe the previews will change my mind, at least there's an actual fire??
Hello friend! We still had some of my mom's family in town from the wedding so that made Thanksgiving nice. I'm a big fan of food (especially the kind that results in leftovers), and lazy days relaxing and being cozy so that's always nice. We had my niece again though for almost a week and whooo boy does she tire me out. I also cannot get rid of this cough so I tried to do as little as possible, and mostly binged tv while working on a new crochet craft my office mate requested for a Christmas gift for her daughter and watching my room fall even further into disarray and disaster. We also tore out our living room carpet. Needless to say I do not feel rested and ready to go back into the office tomorrow! But I did get to have several nights of staying up late and sleeping in so that's always a plus for my night person brain.
As for The Rookie, it's good! Being cop-centric it's naturally a lot of copaganda, and a lot more "finding bad people doing bad things and chasing them down" and less of the "helpful" side of first responding we see with 911, but it does have a more hopeful bent than I was expecting, and quite a few moments of "they're not bad people just regular people who made a bad choice/had bad options". I was also prepared for Owen Strand levels of "main character screentime/storylines in what should be an ensemble show" syndrome with Nathan Fillion's character but it hasn't been too bad so far. Lots of female characters and so far I've enjoyed all of them. I'm bored with Tim's current LI because I'm already on the Lucy/Tim bandwagon, but I like the character and think she's interesting and have enjoyed her scenes (QUITE refreshing), and Nolan's LI storylines are also boring to me personally like Owen's were because I just find his love life to be the least interesting thing about him and prefer his screentime when it's looped in with the police stuff because it includes more of the main characters that way. That being said, I did like his LI's so far (almost done with season 2) and they were both involved enough in the things close to his job that they were able to be involved in main storylines going on. It's been enjoyable so far! It definitely hasn't struck the same chord as early 911 did since it's naturally a little darker in nature just due to the focus of the job (being called for crimes/solving crimes vs being called for rescue), and I haven't bonded to any of the characters as much as I did with the firefam, but I do really like all of the ensemble characters. Also it's been nice seeing threads being teased and storylines leading places and trauma being addressed right away instead of being forgotten about immediately and *maybe* cropping up later if we're lucky.
Speaking of all that mess, it's interesting that from what I can see, most of the buzz around 911 right now is about what is coming in the spring. Since the show has close out Hen's arc, and we know Buck's is dragging out for awhile and Madney's stuff has happened mostly off screen or been cut entirely, what are we even looking forward to for the finale? I said in the tags on another post that at least with s5 we were hoping for a Chim and/or Maddie cameo or at least phone conversation we got to see one side of (robbed), the BT breakup (ROBBED), and Eddie's breakdown that had been teased all season (partially robbed but at least the cliffhanger didn't come out of nowhere). But this season? Pretty much ANYTHING is going to feel like it came out of nowhere unless it's the start of the Buck breakdown because nothing else has been happening consistently enough to make sense. And even a Buck breakdown is a little out of the blue since he's been excited about the sperm donor thing since his talk with Hen and the firefam finding out was treated as a joke and there was zero follow-up in 6x08, and zero follow up on the "couch" thing OR Lev's death since those happened at the start of the season. Finding an issue with his sperm or issues with the couple COULD be something but given that it looks like the spring will have an opening disaster it's likely there won't be tons of follow-up until 6x12 and if we're lucky and get hurt Buck in the spring opening, then things *should* be about that and not the follow-up on the sperm thing anyway soooo 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
There's just like....NO direction for this season. Things are happening but having no impact, even when the potential for impact is RIGHT THERE, and instead of things being sprinkled into every episode it's like, ONE episode about a thing and then nothing for weeks. Hen's arc this season has been good, but with SEVEN main characters, you can't have only ONE of them having a clear direction their story is moving across NINE episodes. I guess we'll see tomorrow but on the bright side, as you said at least there's an actual fire AND we get the firefam in yellow wildfire turnouts with the added bonus of no Lone Star filter! Silver lining.
THE ROOKIE REACTION
Today's reaction is to the season 5, second episode titled "Labor Day" which originally aired on October 2, 2022. The episode was written by Elizabeth Davis Beall and directed by Rob Seidenglanz. Spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
So, let's talk about episode 2 - "Labor Day". At the end of last episode, we saw Lucy and Tim return to her apartment after their undercover operation in Vegas to find Lucy's boyfriend, Chris (Kanoa Goo) almost dead on her sofa due to his wrists being slit by Rosalind Dyer. Now Chris is home from the hospital and convalescing at Lucy's apartment. Lucy has fallen back into the role of doting girlfriend which means Chenford needs to be placed on the backburner for now. Lucy receives a visit from recruiter Misha Porter (Fiona Rene) and is asked to join one of her classes in Sacramento. Lucy has garnered a lot of experience over the last few seasons working undercover and her hard work is not going unnoticed. This decision should be a no-brainer for someone like Lucy who has been wanting to be an undercover agent for quite some time now but after everything that's gone down with Rosalind Dyer and now Chris, she's feeling a bit apprehensive. She's also feeling guilt because she was so close to taking things to the next level with Tim.
Tumblr media
Lucy goes back and forth trying to decide if this is something she wants to undertake. At the end of the episode, Tim comes by her apartment. Apparently Chris, being such a good boyfriend, invited him over so that he could encourage Lucy to sign up for the school. Lucy tells Tim that she feels guilty about what happened to Chris and how she nearly cheated on him. Tim, being the classy fellow as always, takes a step back which confuses Lucy. Tim knows the only way that Lucy will ever pursue a career in undercover work is for him to remove himself from the equation. As just like that our romantic pairing fizzles before they even have a chance to flame. I have a feeling we will eventually get Chenford on this show but hopefully no one has to get hurt for this to happen and whether you like him or not, Chris does seem like a nice guy.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Nolan begins his new role as training officer and his first assignment is none other than Thorsen who is without a training officer due to Nyla being on maternity leave. I'll have to admit, I wasn't exactly a fan of Thorsen at first. A part of me resented him being the de facto replacement for Jackson West (Titus Makin Jr.) who was killed from the show at the beginning of season 4. I do like that the writers went out of their way to make Aaron Thorsen a completely different character than his predecessor much like they did with Nyla when she came in to replace Talia Bishop (Afton Williamson). With that said, we have rarely seen these two particular characters - Nolan and Thorsen - work together and on his first day as a training officer, Nolan is called to the scene where a fellow police officer named Garrett Patel has seemingly committed suicide. After talking to the officer's widow and getting some information from the coroner, the two start to suspect foul play.
Tumblr media
Nolan and Thorsen get Tim and Angela involved and the four of them deduce that Garrett's former partners are involved. Now one thing that tipped me off that the dirty cops in this episode were indeed dirty is when the main guy, Walt Lindbeck (Jesse Luken) used the phrase bad hombres which is something that a certain former president of the United States said when describing Mexicans. These three men were terrible. Not only did they break into Garrett's house to steal evidence, their leader turned a gun on Angela. I was so happy that these two got caught and while this wasn't the main story of tonight's episode, it was great seeing Nolan in a role of authority. I really do think he is going to make a great training officer.
Tumblr media
We jump over to Nyla's storyline which involves her preparing to give birth in her new home with her fiance James (Arjay Smith). Nyla has decided that she not only wants to give birth at home, she wants to have a water birth. It was fun seeing James run around taking care of things for her, even going as far to confront their new neighbors across the street who love to play their music at an obnoxious volume. Because James is such a genuinely nice guy, Nyla waddles across the street to handle the decision which only makes things worse. Later on that day, while James is helping her do some baby yoga, she hears gunshots coming from the house across the street.
Tumblr media
Smitty arrives on the scene and assures Nyla and James that nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary when he investigated. Because this is Smitty, we can't exactly take his word for it. Nyla, like myself, isn't convinced that something isn't up. She does some Rear Window-esque spying on the neighbors and spots two of them bringing what is obviously a body out the front door of the home. She heads over to investigate and when the two men are in the house, she pops the truck and finds the body rolled up in a rug as well as some chemicals to dispose of it. When she hears the guys coming out of the house, she hides behind a bush but forgets to close the trunk. The men immediately suspect that she's spying on them so James comes out of the house in a towel and feigns looking for a nonexistent cat which buys Nyla enough time to get back to their house.
Tumblr media
James rightfully chastises her for going off alone and the two of them get back to prepping for the birth of their baby. While upstairs in the pool she plans on giving birth, they hear a noise downstairs and then the power is shut off. Nyla commands James to get her gun and instead of giving it to him, she keeps it for himself leaving him to go downstairs to investigate with nothing to defend himself. He does manage to find a baseball bat because as horror and thriller movies have taught us time and time again, when it comes time to bash some serial killer or monster brains in, a baseball bat will always be there. James is tackled by one of the two men from across the street and easily subdued. The main guy of the two heads upstairs where he finds the bedroom empty. He checks the closet and the bathroom but there is no sign of Nyla. As he turns his back, Nyla raises up out of the kitty pool like she is starring in the sequel of Tyler Perry's Acrimony and the next thing we hear is gunshots.
Tumblr media
Captain Wade arrives on the scene and takes out the guy wrestling with James. The two of them then race upstairs where they find Nyla in bed, looking perfect and inexplicably dry, with her newborn baby in hand. So yes - you read that correctly. In the time it took for Wade to arrive and save James, Nyla subdued the intruder, delivered her baby, perhaps even cut the umbilical cord, and managed to get changed into dryer clothes just in time for James and Wade to arrive. While this may sound super silly, because it is super silly, this part of the episode was super thrilling and I enjoyed how action-packed and ludicrous it was. Nyla has a baby and it appears that the baby is both hers and James. I had initially been speculating that Nyla's baby would come out half-white because she did sleep with her ex at some point last season. I didn't know if the writers would use that to create a new storyline but it seems that all is well for Nyla and James and their sweet baby girl.
Overall this episode wasn't exactly what I was expecting, especially after last week's dynamite season opener. However, I wasn't exactly disappointed by this episode either. I love that everyone's storylines are advancing. Nolan is taking steps towards doing what he has always wanted to do. Lucy is finally getting an opportunity to do what she's always wanted to do even if it means that she'll have to let go of Tim. Nyla has a baby now and she seems more determined than ever to do for this child what she failed to do for her first kid. It looks like season 5 is going to be a great season for The Rookie which makes me very happy. Until next time ...
It’s been a few weeks and all the Barbie Oscar nomination discourse has kind of died down. I’ve been waiting to chime in on it because I have a completely different take on that whole situation, and I kind of didn’t want to be called a misogynist for it. I don’t think my opinion should be all that inciting but, you know, the internet It’s like a box of cats out there, even more so on this hell site, but I’ve been around for years and want the smoke so here it goes. See, I watch movies. I’ve watched a ton of goddamn movies in my life. Probably several thousand. I mean, you can probably tell that from the fact I have a tertiary blog strictly for reviews. Be it television, film, comics, games, whatever, i have my soapbox. I also watched most of the films in the corresponding categories in which Barbie was “snubbed”. For me, these weren’t snubs. I’m not going to get into how the feminist film wasn’t recognized by the Academy and whatever else because that’s an emotional response. It’s like when people wanted Black Panther to win something. I disagreed then, too, for a lot of the same reason. Plainly put, Barbie, like Black Panther, just wasn’t good enough.
Best Director
Tumblr media
Best Director was loaded to the gills, man. I didn’t see The Zone of Interest, but the rest of those films are, in my opinion, were directed much better than what we got in Barbie. I’m not taking anything away from Greta but, just surface level, I can honestly say the guiding hand of Lanthimos, Nolan, and Scorsese, kind of exposed a lot of what Greta was doing with her film. It’s weird to say, but watching Barbie kind of made me realize that Greta is still a little rough around the edges in terms of her craft. Those other names on the list, they have a clear vision as to how to execute the narratives they bring to the screen. Greta has this ability but it didn’t feel as focus in Barbie as it did in, say, Little Women. I don’t know if that’s because this wasn’t an adaption but compared to the others in this category, I see why she was left out. Like, what the f*ck was up with all of the Will Ferrell sh*t, anyway? Why did it take up so much of the film?
Best Actress
Tumblr media
Straight up, my gut tells me Margot was robbed. Putting that out there immediately because I have a massive Robbie bias. I think she is an incredible actress and admire the f*ck out of her finding her own way in the industry with her Lucky Chap production company. All that said, objectively, this category is probably tougher than the Best Director one. Again, didn’t see Anatomy of a Fall so I can’t comment on Sandra Huller but every other actress on this list, f*cking killed. Carey Mulligan, for sure did her thing in Maestro and, while I found that film to be kind of boring overall, her performance never disappointed. Annette Benning is a giant in the industry and she threw that weight around in Nyad like it was just second nature to her. Lily Gladstone was absolutely brilliant in Flower Moon. She brought so much depth and emotion to that role, it would have been hard not to include her in this category. Now, for my money, Emma Stone takes this category because her time spent as Bella Baxter was incredible. Id Oppenheimer didn’t exist, Poor Things would be my Film of the Year, and that’s almost exclusively because of Emma f*cking Stone!
Tumblr media
I may sound like I’m going in on Margot and Greta but I cannot stress enough how that’s not the case. I absolutely believe Greta is an exceptional director, Ladybird proved that, and my love for Margot is profound. Hell, even after everything just said, I don’t begrudge the fact so many people feel slighted that they got slighted. Like, they JUST missed the cut, in my opinion. If any one of those films slid into next year’s competition. If, say, Poor Things had a January release, Barbie would be right there. It is a really, really, great film and definitely deserves the Best Motion Picture nod, but I don’t think it’s good enough to win. I don’t think it deserves that gold. I think Runner Up or nomination, is just fine for what we have. The competition is just way too strong this year, which is why Margot and Greta didn’t get the nods. It’s not some gran, -Isitc, conspiracy. There is no irony to be had here. Greta didn’t put together a solid enough effort by comparison and Margot got lost in the shuffle of an unusually strong Best Actress class. That’s all. Seriously, watch the other films in their categories and tell me which one doesn’t deserve to be there. You tell me which film gets the boot to let Margot and Robbie in. I bet you’re going to have as hard a time as I did trying to figure that one out.
I absolutely believe Greta is an exceptional director, Ladybird proved that, and my love for Margot is profound. Hell, even after everything just said, I don’t begrudge the fact so many people feel slighted that they got slighted. Like, they JUST missed the cut, in my opinion. If any one of those films slid into next year’s competition. If, say, Poor Things had a January release, Barbie would be right there. It is a really, really, great film and definitely deserves the Best Motion Picture nod, but I don’t think it’s good enough to win. I don’t think it deserves that gold. I think Runner Up or nomination, is just fine for what we have. The competition is just way too strong this year, which is why Margot and Greta didn’t get the nods. It’s not some gran, -Isitc, conspiracy. There is no irony to be had here. Greta didn’t put together a solid enough effort by comparison and Margot got lost in the shuffle of an unusually strong Best Actress class. That’s all. Seriously, watch the other films in their categories and tell me which one doesn’t deserve to be there. You tell me which film gets the boot to let Margot and Robbie in. I bet you’re going to have as hard a time as I did trying to figure that one out.
meet NOLAN KEENE.
Hey, isn’t that NOLAN KEENE. I thought they went away for the summer? Did you hear they might be a WEREWOLF, and have a connection to SLOUGH PACK? What I do know for certain is that they’re 37, and they’re DETERMINED and ABRASIVE. They’re originally from FENRIRSWOOD, and have been back to FENRIRSWOOD for FIVE YEARS living in FORK’S ROAD. I wonder if they still work at WIN GARAGE as a MECHANIC. Best if they stay safe for now.
Born and raised in Fenrirs Wood, Nolan was always a vicious kid. Hands full of blood and soil, and knees grazed in the dirt. An uncontrollable temper, the boy never quite knew how to keep just words to himself. Nolan’s father would teach him to hunt when he could hold a gun. While he would prefer fists and antagonised violence over a trophy at the end of the day, he’d still enjoy his time in the forests that backed onto their house. He’d start spending more and more of his free time out there, staring up to birds scattering in the trees, it became easy to pretend he’s in a grave when no one else was around.
It was the same year his father dies that Nolan got bitten, running around in the woods with his gun brandished as if he was chasing something. Really it was just fun to point and chase. Maybe the rumours made him wonder if there was something human beneath all of it. He knew he was never going to shoot, he was only ever good at antagonising.
His father died due to a ‘hunting accident’, at least that’s what the authorities ended up labelling it as. But gossip would still stain the family name. Nolan Keene’s name.
Restless teen, got in with the wrong crowd. Maybe he was the wrong crowd. Hard to tell which way around that was. Young, dumb, reckless, the ripe age of twenty-one when Nolan was already a trouble to the pack. Fenrir pack might have turned him, they might have been the ones that took him in, but he was nothing more than sharp teeth and a hot head. They’d end up kicking him out after years of trouble, nothing engrained his resentment more than that betrayal of abandoning him. That was when he’d join Slough. When he found out his mother was being evicted from her home. He helps the only way he knows how- by putting himself on the line.
He travels a couple states, robs a few banks. The third one too many things went wrong in the lead up and well, he got caught. His mother moved from Fenrirs Wood anyway.
Nolan serves nine years in prison, the council of Fenrirs Wood is concerned what a werewolf being locked up might do to their secret. For the sake of the town, they do what they can to keep Nolan’s shifts at bay while he’s away. They put a curse on him the day he goes in, unable to shift into his werewolf form but it’s still there inside him. Every part of him only grew to ache and more restlessness. He has been back in Fenrirs Wood for the last five years. Got a job at the mechanics, and is only more restless than the day he left.
Played by Chester. Portrayed by Ricky Whittle.
invincible bullshit that i came up with 10 days ago i just forgot about it
ngaoevnbiaebiw its here @anxiousnerdwritings i hope you like it i got inspired by you to write this
words: 2196
warnings: past arguing, MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE SEASON 1, shooting, arguing, past manipulation
“Reports of who killed the Guardians of the globe are starting to surface, with our agents finding out about the supposed killer: we know they spared Omni-Man, killed the rest of the members, and then fled. We also know they are not from earth. Lots of people have speculated that Omni-Man is the one behind these killings, however, the government has ruled out that being a possibility, since there was no evidence of Omni-Man doing these actions. More at 7 tonight on-”
The program stopped playing as you saw a contact appear on the top of the screen, and reading it, you immediately perked up.
Swiping on the green button, you happily said, “Hey, Dad! What’cha need?”
You heard a chuckle from the other end, before he said, “Hey kiddo, how you holding up?”
“Nothing much going on here, you good over there?”
“Yup, mostly everything is fine. You know my work, they always have something for me to do.”
“Hopefully that clears up soon.”
“Yeah, hey, listen, where are you right now?”
Ugh, not this again. Your mood slightly dropped as you remembered a few years ago, when you first met Cecil. He wasn’t as good as he is now, and he would always be asking where you would be. Even in school. However, that was all in the past, since you were older, he now knew that you were responsible enough to do things on your own. At least, that’s what he wanted you to believe.
“Uh, well, I was just gonna go hang out with some friends and then go back home. Why?”
“Ok, listen to me very carefully: one of my guys is gonna pick you up near Bridgetown, ok? You’re gonna get a bracelet from them and then I’ll explain the rest here.”
What the fuck? “Oh, um, ok, when will they be there?”
“About 5 minutes. Be there soon, love you, bye.”
He hung up the phone quickly, which was extremely rare, even for him, since he would never show his love to you out publicly and you would feel weird if he even did. However, on the phone or in private he was a completely different person, having a great personality and he was an even better dad.
Well, he did say to hurry up, and 5 minutes. You checked the time and when you saw it was near 1. You strided your way towards the street he told you to meet on, and cheerfully thought of the ways to hang out with your friends after whatever he wanted to do. Maybe you could go to the mall? Maybe the food court? You’ve been meaning to try those damn milkshakes at that new bar everyone is talking about, but it was always so crowded. You never liked crowded places in the first place.
Suddenly, your phone rang again. This time, when you checked, it was your dad again. Strange. It was weird for him to call you twice in a row. He usually got to the point within a few sentences.
Picking up the phone, you said, “Hey dad-”
“________, listen to me. Get to someplace safe now. Get out of the road. Get out of the public. I don't care if you have to go inside someone else’s house, just get out of sight.”
Stopping in the middle of the road you let out some surprised stutters. “Wh- Dad, what are you talking about?”
“_______, please, just listen to me when I say this, you are in danger and you need to get out of there.”
“Why? What’s happening?”
You were shuffling around trying to find a good place to “hide” while your dad went into complete panic mode in his voice. “_______, find a place to hide, and whatever you do, get out of open space.”
You heard him speak to someone off the phone, before he cursed out loud. “I have to call you back, but someone will be there, wherever you are, ok? I… I love you.”
Before you could answer him, he hung up the phone. Anxiety was the only thing you could feel, as you looked around the desolate neighborhood. There was a reason why you chose this area over others: it was quiet and small. Not only that, but the only people who walked this way were people who were not fond of bigger crowds. In fact, you haven’t seen anyone go this way for a long time. You always wondered why, since it was the perfect way to get robbed. Of course, that would never happen, especially with all those lessons from your dad about self defense.
The street you were on had walls surrounding the sidewalk to prevent people from going into people's backyards, probably. They were too high up to climb, and they were concrete, so it wouldn’t be easy to just hop over and call it a day.
However, you were almost at the end of the street, and you knew there was a little patch of bushes and leaves that would provide the perfect cover. They were almost as tall as your dad, which always made you wonder who was watering them to be that big.
Pacing quickly towards the end of the street, and seeing no one in sight made you let out a sigh of relief. Either dad was overeating or something bad was happening, and you don’t know which would be worse. When Cec- dad overrated, it always got messy, no matter what it was about.
“Why were you out so long? I was about to send a team after you-”
“Cecil, it’s fine, I just had to talk to my-”
“Don’t call me Cecil, and don’t try to make excuses, tell me who you were with right now or I swear to god-”
You forgot the memory almost as soon as it came up, instead choosing to focus on getting to the brush where you could hide until C- Dad came to pick you up. Wherever he was. Actually, did he give you a time that he would be there?
You got a weird feeling that made you sprint towards the bushes and dive in, like there was someone behind you. You ignored it and forced your way on all fours, ignoring the cuts and scratches you were getting on your arms and legs.
There was almost a whooshing sound above you, and you wondered if your dad sent a fucking jet to get you. But that thought left your mind when you heard it right next to you, along with the sound of someone making a harsh landing onto the street. You were able to hear the little bits and pieces of concrete fly off the ground to hit the ground again.
You stayed completely still, leaning on your arms while your body was facing the street. You heard something shuffle, like moving fabric around, before a familiar voice hit your ears.
“Who’s there?” they- he said, and you were about to cry out of relief when you heard it. “Omni-Man?”
~~~~~
“Cecil, why do you think Nolan would go after ________?”
“Why wouldn’t he?” Cecil didn’t look at Debbie, instead focusing on the map in front of him, wondering where Mark could’ve been.
“What reason would he have to go after them? I just- he wouldn’t just attack a child, would he?”
Cecil felt his head start to hurt. Goddamnit, why did Nolan want to go after you? You had nothing to do with anything, besides being Cecil’s daughter. … is that why he was after you? Just because you were related to Cecil?
No, Nolan wasn’t stupid. He knew you weren’t his biological daughter, Nolan knew Cecil took you from somewhere.
He probably thought you were just someone that he got for fun, which was the furthest from the truth. Cecil didn’t-
“Sir, we’ve found Mark Grayson, along with your daughter, not at the same locations, but-”
“Where is she?” Cecil didn’t try to hide his worry in his voice. It didn’t exactly help when the agent said, in a monotone voice, “She's with Omni-Man, sir.”
~~~~~
“________? What are you doing here?”
Peeking out from the bush, you saw Omni-Man walk up towards you and hold out his hand. You graciously took it, and helped yourself up. Even when you were standing at your full height, Omni-Man was way taller than you. Like, way taller. He could beat your dad within an inch of his life even with all of that combat stuff he learned over the years.
Of course he could, he’s Omni-Man dumbass. Ignoring the thought, you answered, “I’m, uh, busy.”
You saw him give a small smile. “You’re busy hiding in the bushes?”
“Yes.” you cursed internally for answering that so quickly like an idiot. You weren’t expecting him to let out a laugh. He continued while you stood there, confused as all hell.
Finally, he said, “You know, you’re a terrible liar.” You laughed along with him for a moment, before saying, “Yeah, I know.”
His face suddenly darkened, before he said, “So, why are you out here?”
The laughter in the air was gone now, only replaced by crushing silence as he waited for your answer. You felt yourself shrink under his scrutinizing gaze. He looked like he was judging you for just standing there. Well, he could’ve also been judging you because you were in a bush just 10 seconds earlier. After a few more seconds, you broke.
“C- Dad said to hide somewhere.”
“Aren’t you too old to be playing those games?”
“Yeah, I am, but apparently someone was gonna come and get me. He just said to get out of open space.”
You heard him mutter something under his breath, before he scratched the back of his head.
“Well, I can see why he would want that.”
“Really? Why?”
“A mob boss named Machine Head.” When you gave him a confused look, he elaborated, “Machine head was a guy who took down the new Guardians of the Globe along with… Mark. They thought they got him, but unfortunately they weren’t able to kill him.”
“How does that have anything with me?”
“... You’re Cecil’s daughter. Cecil was the one who found out about Machine Head. And took him down. Machine Head wants revenge against Cecil for ruining his plans, so he’s probably going to take it out on you.” When you still gave a surprised stare, he asked, “Do you really not have this happen often?”
“No, Dad keeps me inside alot…” your voice trailed off when you heard your phone ring, and picking it up, you saw it was your dad.
“Hello?”
“_________, I told you to get to somewhere safe!”
“I-I am! I’m with Nolan!”
“Hey, Cecil, don’t worry, I’m right here.” Nolan’s voice was filled with sarcasm, probably an old joke between the two. After all, they were both good friends to each other.
“No, you don’t understand, ______, listen to me-”
Suddenly you were grabbed by your arm, and dragged down. You were caught by Omni-Man before you hit the ground, though. Looking behind him, you saw two trucks coming towards you, along with multiple people in them, with weapons of all sorts.
You didn’t have time to ask who they were or what they wanted, as Omni-Man grabbed you and pulled out off the ground, and into the air. It took you a few moments, but you realized you were in the air. Flying.
Reaching for your phone in your pocket to call your dad back, you realized you must’ve dropped it. However, you weren’t about to waste your energy trying to get it back. Especially not when you were high above the ground. So you simply hung on for dear life as Omni-Man flew away from the shouting people in the cars.
~~~~~
“Where is she?”
“She went with Omni-Man, sir.”
Cecil stood there for a moment, wondering what the fuck happened. It was obvious now that Nolan had no intentions to harm you, but why would he take you and not tell you anything? Cecil wondered before something was handed to him. “We found this near where they took off, sir.”
It was your phone. Completely crushed to bits. “Omni-Man took it from her and crushed it without her knowledge, sir.”
“You started to shoot at her?! What the hell were you thinking!?”
The men stood there, completely still realizing their mistake. “We’re not kids playing at some game, this is real life. And now- I-” he really wanted to kill Nolan now. Debbie was going to become a widow, and he really didn’t care.
Walking up to the truck that was nearest to him, he opened the back and shuffled around, trying to find something, anything that would be of use.
Then he found his favorite gun. The only one he could actually hold himself without another person that stopped Omni-man.
Loading the ammunition, he walked over to Donald, who had a tablet in his hand. “Sir, we’ve found where they’re going.”
Looking at the area on the map, Cecil tapped his wrist watch, and said, “Good. Get the backup ready, and get Mark Grayson. Get Invincible.”

Complete transcript of the Wonderland interview, by Catherine Santino, below the cut :)
In 1993, the year in which Freeform’s new thriller series Cruel Summer opens, actor Froy Gutierrez was yet to be born. Chat rooms and beepers, just two of the symbols of 90’s culture featured in the show, were absent in Gutierrez's own childhood. Instead, the 22 year old grew up among the endless, glowing feeds of social media — and the inevitable pressures that they create.
“There’s a kind of self-awareness that comes from growing up with the internet, which everyone in our cast did,” Gutierrez, who stars in the upcoming series, tells me over Zoom — his boyish charm tangible across the screen. “We’re all technically Gen Z or like, older Gen Z. And so you have to unburden yourself from curating a persona online.”
Due to the dizzying evolution of technology in the past two decades, Gutierrez and I had drastically different experiences with the internet growing up — even though he’s only seven years my junior. I fondly remember a time without the prevalence of social media, while Gutierrez was born into an era where internet presence was not only common, but expected.
Like most of Gutierrez’s peers, the actor was active on social media from a young age, but his presence has quietened over the years — even with 1.7 million instagram followers. “If there’s a general consensus on the internet of a certain readership or viewership, you know about it, because people tweet about it directly to you,'' he says. “There’s a kind of lumping in of the character you’re playing with who you are, that people do. I don’t know if it’s intentional. It’s probably just a human thing, but that happens. And it can be hard not to internalize what you read about yourself, you know? Words have power.”
In 2017, Gutierrez appeared on supernatural MTV drama Teen Wolf, a show with a massive internet fandom. Suddenly, fan theories and commentaries about his character, Nolan Holloway, came in droves, something that the young actor wasn’t necessarily prepared for. “I was still a teenager,” he says. “Around that time, you're an adult, but you’re still figuring things out. So I learned where to set my boundaries because I didn’t know where they were beforehand.”
When Cruel Summer came around, Gutierrez assumed he would be portraying the “desirable young male” he was used to auditioning for. “The first time I read the character, it definitely felt like an archetype. When I auditioned for it, I walked in and was very much myself, and Michelle Purple and Jessica Biel responded very well to it.” However, after he got the role and production ramped up, he was pleasantly surprised. “It didn’t really hit me that they were wanting to take him in such a unique direction until I showed up for wardrobe one day to do my first fitting for the pilot,” Gutierrez recalls. “I looked at the mood board for Jamie and it was like, young Heath Ledger, Keanu Reeves and Kurt Cobain. And I was like ‘Oh shit, I need to step my game up,’” he laughs. “I couldn’t get by doing the same thing that I’ve always done when it comes to characters like that.”
Cruel Summer takes place over the course of three years — ‘93, ‘94, and ‘95 — showing splices of each year in every episode. Produced by Jessica Biel, Tia Napolitano, and Michelle Purple, it centres around the kidnapping of a teenage girl and the fallout of the crime in her community in Skylin, Texas. Gutierrez plays Jamie Henson, the boyfriend of the missing girl, Kate. In her absence, a quiet nerd named Jeanette suddenly rises the social ranks and assumes Kate’s place — including dating Jamie. When Kate returns, Jeanette is suspected to be involved in her disappearance, throwing Jamie into some seriously challenging circumstances. His character could easily be a one-dimensional archetype — and truthfully, I expected him to be — but Cruel Summer took the opportunity to explore toxic masculinity and its widespread impact.
We see Jamie caught in the middle of conflict, unsure how to respond to a traumatic event that certainly no teenager expects to be faced with. He’s not a hero, but he’s not a villain either. It’s unclear whether we’re supposed to root for Jamie or not, which makes him that much more interesting to watch. “He talks a lot about his desire to protect the people around him, regardless of whether or not they asked him to protect them,” Gutierrez says of his character. “He kind of superimposes his own idea of what the people around him need. In order to maintain the peace of the people around him, he kind of robs the people around him of their agency. It’s just a really fascinating character to play in that way.”
Gutierrez has also been able to explore the ethics of true crime in a time when the genre is exploding in popularity. Though Cruel Summer is fictional, it questions the effect that public opinion can have on criminal cases — and perhaps more importantly — the well-being of the people involved. “When it comes to the investigation of a crime, you have to weigh the good it can bring into the world versus the bad it can bring. Or making one person seem suspect, or airing the dirty laundry of a private citizen for the viewership of loads of people.”
Despite his eloquent reflections on Jamie throughout our conversation, it’s clear that Gutierrez doesn’t take himself too seriously. He speaks into the camera like we’re old friends on FaceTime, and when my dog unexpectedly jumps into my frame, he gushes excitedly and asks what her name is. He’s able to laugh at himself one minute and share poignant truths the next. It’s refreshing, much like Cruel Summer.
Another likely contributor to the show’s authenticity? The fact that the cast was kept in the dark when it came to overarching plot points. Instead of knowing the show’s trajectory ahead of time, the actors would receive scripts for the next episode while they were filming — and they were subject to change. “We didn’t know where it was going,” Gutierrez says. “And we were told, “‘This might happen here, or this might happen there.’ And it would shift around.”
Without foresight into their character’s arc, the actors have no choice but to focus only on where they were in that moment — a difficult task when a single episode spans three very different years. Gutierrez faced an even greater challenge, as, unlike the two female leads, his character didn’t undergo any drastic physical transformations over the three years.
“I didn’t really compartmentalise the character,” he explains. “I kind of thought of the different years as different phases in my own life. The first year, ‘93, was a complete absence of any regret. You’re still very young, I was just thinking of like, a complete golden retriever,” he laughs. “A 16-year old boy who just wants the best and isn’t aware. ‘94 is me right before I made the decision to go to therapy, where I was making all these bad decisions and I didn’t know why. And then ‘95 was a whole desire to wrestle with those things and really look at yourself in the mirror and take accountability.”
Gutierrez didn’t only infuse personal experience into his behind-the-scenes work — some aspects made it onto the screen. The actor, whose father is Mexican, grew up spending time between Mexico and Texas and is a native Spanish speaker. Because Cruel Summer is set in Texas, Gutierrez suggested creating a similar background for Jamie.
“I was talking with Tia Napolitano, the show-runner, and I was like, ‘Hey, you know what would be really cool? What if the character is half-Mexican, too?’” Gutierrez says. “And she's like, ‘Oh, yeah, let’s write it in the script.’ And I got to write a couple lines in Spanish, which is really cool. [Jamie] could have been this mould of a cool, likeable jock. And then he ended up being this very nuanced human being, which is awesome.”
Though he is learning to appreciate all parts of his heritage, Gutierrez hasn’t always embraced his identity. “I remember feeling like I might have been not American enough for America, and not Mexican enough for Mexico,” he says. “And I remember having a bit of time in which I had an accent in both languages. Even my name — in Mexico I always went by ‘Froylan’, which is my full name. And then in the U.S., I went by Froy, because I thought it would be easier for other people to say.”
He continues: “I identify as Latino, but I”m also very wary of auditioning for Latino roles because I’m aware I don’t look like a typical Latino person. I don’t want to be someone that you can just sub in for that role, when I’m really white and blonde. And so whenever I do get a role like this, one where he’s not written to be any particular direction and we’re able to collaborate, I’m able to inject some of myself in there. So it’s been really cool to embrace all sides of my history.”
But of course, as is true for Gutierrez, Jamie’s cultural background is only a small part of who he is. Cruel Summer is committed to portraying him as a nuanced character that breaks the moulds of masculinity while tackling complex inner conflict. “Living in his shoes and walking in them, a big question that came up for me was, ‘What is the difference between guilt and shame? [Jamie]’s coping mechanism was terrible and unhealthy, and caused more pain for the people around him. But at the same time, the shame that he internalized made it worse for him. One thing I really learned, is that shame is about yourself and beating yourself up. And guilt is about taking accountability and apologising, moving forward without expecting the relationship to come back. It's just about trying to heal what happened and then moving on, on the terms that the other person sets. It’s not about you, and I think that’s what the character learns throughout the show.”

Summer Heat, Boy and Girl Meet (SFWeek Day 2)

Get a job at Camp Sherwood, her father said. It would be fun, he said.
Emma Nolan was not having fun.
In fact, she wasn’t sure she was going to make it to the end of the month without landing in jail for attempted murder. Or, if things continued to get even worse, actual murder.
The source of her ire?
Neal Gold, the counselor of Cabin 4, and his merry band of lost boys who loved to cause trouble to the girls of her cabin, Cabin 8.
The problem had started on the third day of camp. The kids had started settling in and getting used to the routine, and Emma had become more confident in her abilities as a camp leader.
Neal Gold had noticed this, and had planned a spontaneous water fight between their cabins, ambushing the girls on their way back from canoeing. That was fine, lighthearted enough, and it had been a hot, humid day, so the extra water had, admittedly, felt good.
But then it had all gone downhill.
Shaving cream had been next, as the girls had been coming back to their cabins from an arts and crafts lesson. Luckily (in Emma’s opinion), they’d had to leave their crafts to dry, and nothing had been broken.
The third was scaring her campers when they’d had a late-night bonfire. Emma had planned it perfectly - s’mores, campfire songs, the works. And then Neal and his stupid campers had decided to jump out of the bushes just as they’d started telling scary stories. The boys had somehow constructed a monster costume and had jumped out of the bushes. If the kids hadn’t already been aware of Emma’s sour attitude toward Neal Gold, it would have looked like it’d been coordinated by the two counselors.
The worst prank had been when they’d returned to their cabin from a hike through the forest. It had been so nice to learn about the local wildlife and plant life, that for the afternoon, Emma had nearly forgotten about the trouble she’d been having.
Then they’d made it back to their cabin to find all of their belongings tossed onto the roof, including Emma’s mattress.
Despite her complaints to Director Sherwood, nothing had been done. The pranks had been waved off as harmless summer fun, which meant Emma had only one other option: revenge.
She’d started slowly: releasing a harmless, wild garter snake into the cabin (“Goodness, Gold, you guys should learn to shut your cabin door!”), greasing the entryway so many of them slipped on their way in after their movie night.
Then, he’d caught on to what she was doing.
He’d confronted her about the pranks, she had snapped back at him, and somehow (both of them swore up and down they hadn’t done it), a syrup-drenched piece of french toast from that morning’s breakfast had flown through the air and landed on Director Sherwood’s wife, Regina.
It had all gone wrong from there, a full-blown foodfight exploding in a second. It hadn’t lasted long, but Director Sherwood had known immediately who was likely at fault (even though she and Neal absolutely weren’t), and had forced the two of them to clean the mess hall alone, while he took their cabins out to the zipline and rock wall.
“I can’t believe I got stuck cleaning this with you,” Neal scowled, flicking a piece of bacon at her.
“Hey! I didn’t want to do this either, but you’re the one who’s been pranking my kids all month!” she retorted, scraping drying maple syrup off one of the tables with a groan. “I just wanted to be a good counselor and give the kids a fun summer, but you had to go around disrupting us all the time!”
“You think I didn’t want to do the same? Be a good counselor and have a little fun with the kids in my cabin? Isn’t that why we’re all here?”
Emma tossed a dirty rag into a bucket of equally-disgusting water. “Do you get off on scaring little girls? Alice had to sleep with me the night you dressed up as a knockoff Frankenstein, and we had to look for Ella’s lucky blanket for three hours after you put our stuff on the roof!”
Neal went unusually quiet as he processed her words. “Oh. Emma, I’m - ”
“Sure. You’re ‘sorry’, you promise you’re done, but then the minute I walk out of here, you’re going to be plotting something else,” she scoffed.
“No - I mean it,” Neal threw a sponge down and raised his hands in a show of surrender. “I didn’t know I’d scared any of your kids. Why didn’t you say anything?”
Emma scowled. “I did! Director Sherwood didn’t do anything.”
“Why didn’t you say anything to me?”
“Was I supposed to believe you’d listen, after everything that’s happened this month?”
A pause. “Fair point. I’m calling a truce. No more pranks.”
She looked him up and down, trying to find the catch, or to find the lie. She had always been good at it - her father had once told her she was made for detective work.
But she couldn’t find any with Neal, so she sighed, holding out her hand. “Fine. Truce.”
“C’mon, let’s finish this up. If we’re lucky, we might be able to ride the zipline once.”
“Yeah, okay. Sounds like fun.”
Emma’s shoulders ached, from the amount of force used to scrub the mess hall, but by the time they’d finished, they had missed out on the zipline, and the kids were busy practicing their skits for that night’s talent show. They’d missed the pizza that had been called in for lunch, too.
She groaned, rubbing her eyes. “Now what do we do?”
“You hungry?”
“Well, yeah, but - ”
Neal smiled and pulled two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches out of his pocket.
“Neal!”
“What, did they expect we’d eat wild berries and dirt for lunch? Come on, let’s go sit by the lake. We’ll be able to hear when the rehearsal ends.”
He was becoming a terrible influence, but Emma saw no other option as she followed him, plopping down on a rock and nibbling at the crust of her sandwich.
“Where you from, Emma?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s this little town about two hours from here. I doubt you’ve heard of it.”
“Try me.”
“It’s called Storybrooke.”
Neal choked on the bit of sandwich in his mouth, taking a long drink of water. “No shit? My stepdad is from there.”
She stared at him. What were the odds of that? “What’s his name?”
“Jerkass. Dickwad. Motherfu - oh, sorry, you meant his real name. Killian Jones.”
“Any relation to Adam Jones?”
“Think that’s his twin brother. Why?”
“He’s one of the deputies that work under my dad.”
“He’s a cop?!” Neal laughed, doubling over and wiping a tear from his eye. “Could you send him to NYC? I’m pretty sure my stepdad is some sort of thief. Or worse. Mom keeps getting some really fancy shit and then, wouldn’t you know it, the news comes on with a store being robbed.”
Emma frowned. “Jeez, Neal. You don’t have to live with him, right?”
“Nah. Dad has custody. I live with him most of the time.”
“That’s good at least.”
“Yeah, he and Belle are fine.”
They settled into a comfortable conversation then, and Emma found that underneath all the stupid pranks, Neal Gold wasn’t too bad. And he was, well… kind of cute.
Not that she’d ever tell him that.
“GOLD! NOLAN! I hope you two aren’t slacking off!” Director Sherwood suddenly yelled.
The two jumped up.
“Sorry, Director!” Emma called. “See you later, Gold.”
“See ya, Nolan.”
The rest of the month went smoothly, much to Emma’s relief. The girls had come to enjoy themselves, and she’d made a new friend with Neal.
As she lifted her duffel bag onto her shoulder the last day of camp, she frowned as something hit the ground.
A peanut butter label? How had the label to a jar of peanut butter ended up in her bag?
She carefully unfolded it, feeling her eyes widen as she took in the note scribbled on the back.
Call me if you’re ever in the city. - Neal
