The Vulture Dimension is giving me big Secret Cow Level energy.
The first Diablo game sees the player character fighting demons and fiends and zombies and so forth under a village church after a hellmouth opens up there. And in the village above are cows, and if you click on them they moo.
There was a persistent rumour that if you clicked on a certain cow a certain number of times, you would gain access to a secret special bonus dungeon level. (I think it was the second cow from the right next to the church, but don't quote me. Then again, do, all instructions about the cows were equally incorrect).
It wasn't true, and what screencaps were shared of the secret cow dungeon were all equally fake. But every time Blizzard insisted there was no secret cow level, the more gamers insisted that the secret cow level was real. For most it was a joke! But there were almost certainly real hardcore Cow Believers.
Enter Diablo II. After you defeat the final boss, if you combine certain magic items, you can open a portal to
The Secret Cow Level. A special bonus dungeon level, where the only monsters are bipedal cows called Hell Bovines.
You can get good loot from this level! It's also pretty hard because of the sheer amount of Hell Bovines that mob you as soon as you step through the red portal.
A bit from the community, repeatedly referenced in the creators' other games, that got made real in a sequel game...?
Hope the Vulture is more forgiving than the Cow King!

((Been having Diablo brain rot lately. Know only a little bit about the lore, but I wanna put my lucifer and my other demons into situations-))
((Also, I want to put my angels into situations. Please, if anyone does the Prime Evils, the Angiris Council, Lilith, Inarius, or just anyone in the Diablo setting, please DM me. I'm going to bed now, but I hope that someone sees this.))
